Portland Oregon has been a Democrat run city pretty much forever. It has a really odd history, including settlement by a number of former Democrats that moved there following the Civil War. This is one of the places where the racist practice of “redlining” shows up. Once you dig deeper into the history, you find that the worst acts of racism were always overseen by Democrats. Even still, there is a constant effort in Portland to drive certain minorities out of desirable parts of the city using any kind of zoning apparatus that will do the trick.

From what I understand, those who commit crimes against children are the lowest of the low in the prison pecking-order.
I suspect that one of the reasons for this is that so many of the inmates were likely abused / neglected as children themselves.
It’s easier to rationalize a crime against an adult, who perhaps “should have known better”, than against a child, who doesn’t know better. Children are always innocent, in a significant sense. They aren’t “fair game”, as it were, and even the majority of prisoners seem to recognize this.

At heart, when his policy positions are averaged out, PDJT’s a centrist. Some are conservative (the wall), others aren’t (prison reform).
I just wish he could get more traction with the Americans I know. (Only two of my friends voted for him.) They listen to way too much MSM.
I’ve found it very frustrating that prison reform was not considered a “conservative” position. That’s not to say that I agree with the liberals on how it should be done – people who despise LEO’s and want to throw open the gates and allow mayhem to reign are not the ones I would align my reform policies with.
Also neglected is that many on the left are responsible for the “tough on crime” policies that disproportionately affected black America – the congressional black caucus for decades was driving their narrative of a drug epidemic destroying black America, that we needed stronger mandatory sentencing for drug possession and drug pushing. All that “tough on crime” played out by boomeranging law enforcement and criminal justice against black America and giving far too high a proportion of young black men criminal records, effectively destroying their opportunities for gainful employment for life, and taking them away from their children even if they did want to be the dad’s they were meant to be.
Ugh, the left is despicable. Decades of this destruction, followed by years of fomenting from the highest levels of the prior administration the notion that cops are racist and that cops have it out for black America – why? Because they were enforcing the laws, as written, that the left themselves put in place! The Alinsky model could be thrown into full force to prove to blacks that cops were the bad guys! Mob mentality and anger stoked over and against clear, rational thought, provided the mind control needed to create a resistance movement out of useful idiots. The same, of which, rioted, burned, and engaging and rampant criminality. Did they do it against “white America”? No, actually – they did it against their own neighborhoods, against their own successful businesses, against their friends and neighbors, and against their own families. They burned their own black and minority communities, and often any opportunities with it. All whites got from it was fear and intimidation – more social division.
Then along comes President Trump. Takes LEO’s seriously and the problems with law enforcement seriously. Stops targeting cops via a weaponized AG and phony charges of racial discrimination. Changes policies that ramp up the economy to unheard of levels, creating so many new jobs that African American unemployment is at its lowest level IN HISTORY. Creates an avalanche of vocational training opportunities from businesses looking to hire workers. There’s still a lot of work to do. Too many cities have corrupt police/govt unions that are driving the cities policies toward leftist destruction. These D controlled and corrupted cities are inevitably the ones that have BOTH the greatest emphasis on racial diversity in hiring practices AND the most grievous racial incidents in the country. Red cities that are not unionized FIRE cops that are involved in racial incidents – but not corrupt blue cities, with a circle of politicians, unions, and police who run cover for each other.

Yes. I remember a comment he made based on his experience as a prison psychiatrist. He said the inmates always explained how they were a good person who had fell in with a bad crowd, but he never met an inmate who was part of the bad crowd.

He had another column, in City Journal, I think, a few years ago wherein he said that most criminals are malnourished. One guy who was arrested ate nothing but chocolate bars. Dalrymple said that if criminals ate proper, balanced meals there would be a lot less crime.
I think he’s on to something important there, because there were trials about 20 years ago in US prisons where inmates were given daily vitamin tablets. The results were very good — much less violence. (I don’t know if that became a permanent policy in those institutions. It should, but it’s too sensible.)
I used to read all his columns when he wrote for The Spectator (UK). I have three of his books, none of which I could put down.
Undoutedly! The cost of running grocery stores in high crime areas is very high, so in many of these places the only places that stay open are the liquor stores. They stock honey buns and other junk food, but it is a long bus ride to get to any grocery stores that have quality food.
One ministry in Dallas to the Bonton community made an impact by starting a community garden to provide fresh produce and recruiting people from the area to maintain it. Has made an incredible difference there.
If it’s a faith based community, it will work. Kudos to the project in Dallas. Yes, I can imagine it’s made a huge difference. Thank goodness.
However, in places like Detroit, only the environmentally conscious seek to farm what are now, sadly, great blocks of unused land. That is a lot of work and someone who eats chocolate bars daily (i.e. the guy arrested when Dalrymple was working that night) is not going to be interested in fruit and vegetables. He most certainly will not want to till the land, plant with a dibber, tend to seedlings, watch for pests, care for the plants and, if he’s lucky, harvest the crop.
A community garden takes a committed leader, then a small set of families to care for it.
Therein lies the difference — and that is not a criticism. If there were more community gardens, there would be healthier Americans and less crime. It would be great if vacant land in Detroit could be divided up into hundreds of community gardens, but there aren’t enough people able or willing to keep them up, JMHO.
Can many small communal gardens be started elsewhere? I do not know.
We have the same problem in the UK in poorer areas (some white, some mixed race) with easy availability of ‘strong drink’ (as some Britons call it) at the expense of good food to prepare from scratch.
Two of our television stations, BBC2 and Channel 4, have run various series over the past 15 or so years with a couple of well-known national cooks/chefs who have taught less well-off people how to either grow their own food on a local allotment (available from the local council for a peppercorn rent) or cook from what they can find in a local supermarket.
The allotment projects, which, like the one in Dallas, are small and community-oriented with chickens, fruit and vegetables. Families managing them have been so happy not only to learn how to farm locally but also to cook and eat better for less.
The supermarket-oriented series are equally rewarding. Families shift from junk food to real home cooking, which brings a smile to everyone’s faces, especially the children affected and involved.
I do increasingly think that all this junk food is a plan by the elites to make the great unwashed — which probably includes us Deplorables — fat, unhealthy, diabetic and sugar-crazed. In the event of sugar madness, there are Big Pharma tablets for that, especially for hyperactive children. (Ahem.)
Don’t be so down on Detroit – they have Christopher Brooks up there! The things Evangel Ministries is doing are amazing.
I’m still not sure about the junk food plan. Michelle’s plans for school lunches could easily be phase 2 of a larger strategy. There are a lot of people that would love to get their hands on control of the agricultural product supply chain. The food control nazis definitely want to control how and what everyone eats, they are very real. Michael Bloomberg was a prime example of trying to tax sodas and regulate salt. If they could control the food, they would be able to control the masses. Soylent Green would look pretty cheerful by comparison.

As more people flee New York, the already-too-high tax burden on those who remain will increase, with less good paying jobs available. This is unsustainable.

I have wondered for months now what I would do, when the “normies” started to see what was happening. How could I explain what has taken me two years of reading, learning, and researching to understand? Last night I got my first panicked phone call. And this is from a conservative Trump voter!
My dear friend is a staunch supporter of our President, and also a Fox news devotee. She is also a researcher, a genealogist, like me. I made a careless reference to military tribunals in an email, not thinking. She took it and ran with it. Now she is freaking out, in tears, etc. Because Fox had told her nothing, because she has found all sorts of what is possibly disinformation, and she does NOT have the background knowledge to understand Q. She is reading Q, but with little understanding. She is sure the military tribunals are underway (and they may be), but she is so uniformed I think she is worried that it may be a threat to President Trump.
I don’t know where to start. Is there ANY one document, 1/2 hour video, website, ANYTHING you would recommend? I don’t know how to boil this down to a small enough chunk to give her. The problem, as I see it, not just with her, but with anyone, is they are not going to spend 100 hours reading to understand. Out culture just doesn’t work that way anymore.

This is not simply another four year election. This is a crossroads in the history of our civilization that will determine whether or not we the people reclaim control over our government.
The political establishment that is trying to stop us is the same group responsible for our disastrous trade deals, massive illegal immigration and economic and foreign policies that have bled our country dry.
The political establishment has brought about the destruction of our factories and our jobs as they flee to Mexico, China and other countries all around the world.
It’s a global power structure that is responsible for the economic decisions that have robbed our working class, stripped our country of it’s wealth and put that money into the pockets of a handful of large corporations and political entities.
This is a struggle for the survival of our nation and this will be our last chance to save it.
This election will determine whether we are a free nation or whether we have only the illusion of democracy but are in fact controlled by a small handful of global special interests rigging the system, and our system is rigged.
This is reality. You know it, they know it, I know it and pretty much the whole world knows it.
The Clinton machine is at the center of this power structure. We’ve seen this first hand in the wikileaks documents in which Hillary Clinton meets in secret with international banks to plot the destruction of U.S. sovereignty in order to enrich these global financial powers, her special interest friends and her donors. Honestly, she should be locked up.
The most powerful weapon deployed by the Clintons is the corporate media; the press.
Let’s be clear on one thing: The corporate media in our country is no longer involved in journalism. They’re a political special interest no different than any lobbyist or other financial entity with a total political agenda and the agenda is not for you, it’s for themselves.
Anyone who challenges their control is deemed a sexist, a racist, a xenophobe. They will lie, lie, lie and then again they will do worse than that. They will do whatever is necessary.
The Clintons are criminals, remember that. This is well documented and the establishment that protects them has engaged in a massive cover-up of widespread criminal activity at the state department and the Clinton Foundation in order to keep the Clintons in power.
They knew they would throw every lie they could at me and my family and my loved ones. They knew they would stop at nothing to try to stop me. Nevertheless I take all of these slings and arrows gladly for you. I take them for our movement so that we can have our country back.
I knew this day would arrive. It’s only a question of when and I knew the American people would rise above it and vote for the future they deserve.
The only thing that can stop this corrupt machine is you. The only force strong enough to save our country is us. The only people brave enough to vote out this corrupt establishment is you the American people.
Our great civilization has come upon a moment of reckoning.
I didn’t need to do this folks, believe me. I built a great company and I had a wonderful life. I could have enjoyed the fruits and benefits of years of successful business deals and businesses for myself and my family instead of going through this absolute horror show of lies, deceptions, malicious attacks – who would have thought?
I’m doing it because this country has given me so much and I feel so strongly that it’s my turn to give back to the country that I love.

The best advice that I can think of is to let her know that it’s ok for her to TAKE HER TIME!
Perhaps explain that it’s taken a long time for all of us to arrive at the conclusions we have, and that there isn’t any need to hurry. In fact, there’s a need to assimilate things at ONES OWN PACE.
So, FIRST deal with the psychological issue – the panic, the fear. Comfort her with the knowledge that we, too, have felt the same at times … and it always gets better.
The Red-Pill also caused the Matrix character “Neo” to panic (“I WANT OUT! GET ME OUT!!!), but with a little time and support, he adjusted to the new knowledge.
Also, don’t tell her that “There’s no need to panic!” It backfires practically ALL the time, because it belittles their reaction, which actually IS valid.
The emotions come before the intellect … help the former, and helping the latter becomes MUCH easier.
