We still had the altar against the east wall…the Tridentine mass, the mystery, the solemness. And that was this girl’s overpowering sense of the presence of God. Often, putting the children together as in making a pie, one will find components of the parents. I have twin boys, very much alike (a mother knows) but to the world they seem very different. In each one of them I see my husband and myself. Our daughter has lots of me! 🙂

CBS Redacts Fact Check After Accidentally Proving Trump’s Point

…CBS was one of the outlets that provided fact checking, but part of the network’s analysis disappeared after it proved President Trump’s point. But they aren’t “fake news” or biased against him in their reporting, right?
Of note is the fact that for the most part, their fact checking supports Trump’s speech as being true. So why did they completely remove one of the facts they checked?…
It reads: “Fact check: Number of women sexually assaulted on trip to border
CLAIM: The president claimed one in three women have been sexually assaulted traveling to the border.
FACT CHECK: Between 60 percent and 80 percent of female migrants traveling through Mexico are raped along the way, Amnesty International estimates.”
So, the president was right about the harm, but he actually understated the danger.
Now let’s look at what the CBS report, as it currently exists on their website, says about the matter… Actually, it says nothing at all.
The facts about sexual assault on women have been removed.
If CBS executives thought they could get away with the deletion without it being noticed, they were sadly mistaken. More than one person on social media pointed out what they did.
WOW. Yes – I saw that somebody even “fact-checked the fact check” earlier, and it was correct, and it was there. Now gone!

These fact checks proving PDJT’s points were on the Howie Carr Show yesterday. Howie read each one on the air.
In one of the pieces I published yesterday, I made the same point that the fact checkers actually CONFIRMED VSG’s points even while trying to downplay them. It takes special skill to be able to mentally structure those paragraphs without bursting into flame.
It’s gotta be tough being a “fact checker” for an administration that is meticulous about its facts…

I am grateful that PDJT is an ex-Dem. Only ex-Dems can get us to lasting victory, because they know how the party operates as well as all their tricks and strategies.
True story. But Trump has a shocking level of greater insight into the inner workings than any ordinary or exceptional ex-Dem. That includes even former red diapers like David Horowitz. He has more insight than even 99% of the current Dem leadership. He had money, he had the parties, he earned their trust, and for decades they spilled out their plans to him expecting to bring him into their circles of power and influence.
I mean really it’s shocking to think, that he literally could have become one of the central power brokers of the Dem party, like another Soros. Really shocking when you think about it.
All these idiots who talk about his character never factor in the lion has been through battles and has taken handsome scars along the way many that we may never know. The real question about character: What was it in Trump that made him strong enough to resist grasping at the ring of power that was dangled before him? Not only that, but what gave him the strength and determination to stand up and fight it when he could have taken his ease?
Oh, yes, I have been following Donald Trump since 1980. Am fully aware of his insider position.

CM, I never paid much attention to Donald Trump and skipped over anything other than headlines which were plentiful at times but began serious research when SD began his support. I had come to rely on SD positions which had proven to be from well developed, insightful, documented research and this was one I could not just go along with because …. well, I actually found in my own research it was likely because the media narrative – headlines only – had hijacked my gut instinct in this case, pretty scary to think that could happen but the person I found in my deep dives was not at all the same person coming from media reports over the years.
Your two reasons are spot on IMO and another thing that I found was the issue of addiction being deeply personal for Trump. His older brother Freddy who suffered from alcoholism died in 1981 at the age of 43. His brother’s struggles with addiction and his death had a “tremendous impact” on him and because of that he does not drink alcohol, do drugs, or smoke cigarettes. His success in traveling with the powerful while keeping true to himself and his own aggressive ambitions seems to be his ability to move about with an observer stance where as you said he did not enter into compromising positions
He had/has the clarity of mind unaltered by drugs/alcohol to see through people so strong and so powerful, yet found themselves compromised. He really personifies to this day a real sense in which he is “in” this world, but not “of” it.
When Trump’s official biography has been written it will be an interesting read. Unfortunately Trump and I are in the same mortality cohort so I am unlikely to live long enough to read it. Nonetheless I believe it will reveal how he was chosen and prepared by God and persuaded by American patriots to lead the rescue of this country.

Shapiro is very young. He is undoubtedly highly educated and brilliant. He does have a healthy dose of wisdom that he has inherited, far more than the average Joe. I don’t know how to say this without it sounding extremely critical – he still has some wising up to do. A more integrated, and holistic wisdom of living. Early success has made him conceited, arrogant.
“He’s fake” – Fakeness is often a characteristic of superficiality. Or a better way to put it, superficiality gives the distinct impression of phoniness.
Superficiality is very real. It takes a lot of time of reflection and thought – philosophizing if you will – to build a depth of insight.
Ben operates at a very surface level. Lots of tweets. Journalism over reflection. The novel over the timeless. Even his picture on his website shows him engaging with his cell phone. Truth be told, very little in the way of original thinking. He has good material, but it is almost always insight he has borrowed from others – while I could be wrong, I don’t see signs that he has done a lot of philosophical heavy lifting himself.
His auditory and verbal reasoning skills are extraordinarily fine-tuned. This is a sign of high _verbal_ intelligence. Unfortunately it is a sign that he places speed of media consumption, debate, and verbal reasoning far ahead of other intellectual skills and practices. Even speaking at normal speed his speech sounds like he’s responding to a podcast at 1.5x or 2.0x speed. Developing other types of intelligence seems to have taken a back seat to his capacities for debate. Philosophical reasoning or emotional intelligence, for instance.
Fast talkers always come across as being fake, phony, or superficial. Their responses seem too easy, too rehearsed. The other person finishes talking and they immediately jump in with no pause – no time was lost. That’s great for timed debate, not so much for conversational relationships. Fast talk is almost always an indicator of superficiality because the human perception recognizes quickly that in a conversation, the other party is NOT genuinely listening to what is being said. Human beings rightly perceive a lack of listening as selfishness or self-importance – they tell you that they care about you, but they aren’t listening, and well really, it’s all about them, not about you. The air of hypocrisy is palpable.
(Contrast with POTUS who genuinely listens. Watch the videos. He is intentionally engaged with people even will all that is running through his mind. He’s not worried about saving mere “time” – he cares about the _person_, and listening to them. Listening and relationship, genuine emotional connection, not fast-time tricks, are his priority.)
In those terms, Ben is very scripted. He has had an exceptional level of debate experience. He is intellectually sharp and has command of a broad set of facts. So when he interacts with people, he has a lot of prior scripted experience to draw from. He doesn’t have to listen closely to have an immediate response or comment to add.
The perception people come away with, which I don’t feel is far from the reality, is that it’s all about Ben and his mental scripts. The genuineness of conversation and mutual listening is not present. That makes him seem fake and phony – and this is a fair assessment, the relationship with his guests is very superficial and about Ben’s script. Even if they are providing the materials for the building Ben is going to be the foreman telling them how things are going to be assembled (since he can do it better, see). He does not do a good job connecting with his guests emotionally, and he doesn’t do a good job connecting with his audience (emotionally) as a result.
In a debate, strong confidence to the level of arrogance is a good trait to have. But that same strength becomes a weakness if carried over to other human relationships. One easy way to practice humility is to genuinely listen to what is said, think it over, and really pause after someone speaks to contemplate what was said.
Two classes of people are able to speak convincingly. The well informed and the con artist. Sometimes it takes years to vet which a particular person is. I don’t follow the kid but one must be wary of any expert that bursts on the scene before gaining much in the way of life experience. Laws of the Universe#27: Theory without experience has a weak foundation.
Shapiro came to my notice because he advises people to be combative in defense of their principles and because he does seem to drive “them” nuts, not dissimilar to someone all of us here DO like. I’ve seen some of his stuff about how to argue with a “liberal” (i.e., a leftist), and in interacting with them he does seem to be effective (please, correct me if I’m wrong).
Given all that it seems hard to square with his anti-Trumpism. You’d think Shapiro would be all over this.
Shapiro came to my notice back when he was at Breitbart. If I remember correctly, Andrew was about to expose something BIG before he died (was killed?)…. Ben Shapiro took the reigns and never let out the “Big Secret”. I have always thought that he was not really on “our” side after that.

The Rio Grande *is* the border, all along the Texas-Mexico border.
So you cannot ‘visit the border’ in Texas, without visiting the Rio Grande.
The Rio Grande is a meandering floodplain that doubles back on itself in numerous places.

If we built a wall set back away from the flood plain of the Rio Grande…we would be essentially giving away that land and the river, to Mexico.
We would be ceding all that territory…to Mexico.
And that would be a lot of territory to give away.
The Rio Grande originates in Colorado, flows through New Mexico and then flows along the entire border of Mexico.

We have as much right to that river as Mexico does…moreso, really, because it originates in the US.
We have Farmers and Ranchers who depend on access to the Rio Grande, for irrigation and for watering their cattle.
A wall or steel barrier fence would cut off their access.
This would be bad.
The Rio Grande presents a big challenge to securing the southern border.
Rick Perry showed us the way to do it…with Gun Boats.
Perry had limited resources, so he was only able to procure a small fleet of gun boats.
But wherever those gun boats patrol…they are very effective.
It is not fair to Texas to expect them to secure the border for us.
That is the job of the Federal Government!
We could have the Coast Guard patrol the Rio Grande…or equip the Border Patrol with gun boats.
Either way, we need to do it.

Wheatie, as always such a thoughtful post. I like the solution you suggest very much. Gunboats on the Rio Grande is just fine with me. In fact, I’m down with a militarized border.
I know there is some kind of fencing in places along the Rio Grande, and I think I recall some kind of ideas being discussed about flood control levees combined with the wall either during the campaign or just after the election. I am pretty confident the Army Corps of Engineers would have some solid ideas how to do that.
But yeah, farmers and ranchers would need access to the river and shouldn’t have to give that up.

I know that a lot of people have never had a reason to look at a map and acquaint themselves with the nature of the Rio Grande.
So they don’t know the problems that it presents, for border security.
They’re like…”Oh it’s a river. Just put the wall along the banks. Problem solved.”
Unfortunately, it’s not that simple.
If you go to a Bing map or Google map, then zoom down onto the terrain view…you can see how the Rio Grande winds around and zig-zags.
Putting a wall there just wouldn’t work.
We would have to give up too much land as well as river access.
It’s been a really long time since I looked at a Texas map and studied the Rio Grande even superficially. So looking at it to consider walling it off gave me a new appreciation for why so many Texas senators and congress critters have been less than enthusiastic. I can totally see that.
But I can also see having wall to wall gunboats (slight exaggeration) and Kleig lights and drones and spotters and snipers and whatever else it takes. I’m sure that would go a long way towards resolving the issue. The only thing I don’t like about non permanent solutions is when the next Communist is elected it all goes away. But this is a unique situation and requires a different solution, perhaps, because
secure the border we must.
I thought it was really helpful how you laid it all out there to look at and included the pic of one of Texas’ boats. It made it pretty understandable in short order.
Build the Canal, make the Canal go straight, creates a ‘border zone’ between actual border and the canal. Canal creates unlimited fresh water supplies and zero drought, + a breadbasket in the USA of 260K sq miles. The state of Texas is only 248K sq miles. Feed the world, create trillions in wealth, improve commerce, and run gas and oil lines to lower cost and improve environmental conditions.

There are sections of the Texas/Mexico border where Trump has no intention of building a wall, and that’s largely because the Rio Grande itself forms a barrier.
In other places, he’d have to build through a rancher’s river front property, which would, in most cases, be opposed by the rancher for the very reasons you name.
It is not, however the case that the land would be ceded to Mexico if the wall is set back (as it would have to be); the land is legally ours to where the border is defined by treaty. (This doesn’t necessarily follow the course of the river; if the river moves, the border doesn’t, though sometimes we swap land with Mexico.) The wall is NEVER right on the border, because we need to be able to work on it from both sides to do maintenance. There’s always some setback. It’d have to be further back, of course, along the Rio Grande. We’re not even allowed to build anything in the river (even if we wanted to try) by treaty, if my understanding is correct.
We would, however, be cutting ranchers off from the river, and having to take some of their property, since it runs right up to the river. (In NM, AZ, and CA, the federal government has a border zone easement; not true in Texas.) We might even, in some cases, have to run the wall *behind* the rancher’s house! Any wall building would have to address this, by bringing water through the wall (somehow), and giving the rancher a way to cross the wall at will to access both parts of his land.

This is true…but the Mexican people would soon view it as ‘theirs’ since the land would be on their side of the wall.
Look at all the places where the Mexican people have built houses and businesses right up to the barriers that exist today.
I would venture to guess that those barriers are set ‘inside’ our side of the border.
But they consider anything outside of the barrier to be their territory.
Even the East German commies didn’t object if you walked right next to their Berlin wall, which had a setback (a small one), though technically you could have gone to one of their prisons for it.
The setback in desert areas is small, less than the width of a road, or maybe even less (though in less populated, rugged areas I’m sure it’s more). They could be building NEAR the wall and it would look close and not actually encroach.
Giving them a couple of yards of crappy land in Tijuana is one thing. If we had to set the wall back for a flood plain, I think we’d probably vigorously enforce getting rid of shantytowns on our side of the actual boundary, at least as long as we had a MAGA president.

Most if not all of the AZ/NM border with Mexico was part of the Gadsden Purchase which was the last major territorial acquisition of the US in what is now the “lower 48” states (also known as CONUS for “CONterminous US”).

That might work well in the areas pictured, but further up the river it gets to be desert, not swamp (near El Paso the Rio Grande isn’t so Grande because a lot of it has already disappeared due to irrigation of New Mexico). I remember as a kid I could see people wading (only up to their knees) in the river one time when we were on a road trip. (Yeah, zero border enforcement then.)

I think both Rosenstein and Mueller are gray hats. They are helping PDJT either because they are no longer being blackmailed or because they are seeking to avoid being executed for treason or both. I say this because I cannot imagine PDJT spending three plus hours interviewing Mueller for the FBI director job, with Rosenstein in the room, when Mueller was not eligible for the job. Something else happened in that meeting, and I do not think PDJT would allowed himself to be cast as the mouse in a bs cat and mouse lawfare game, and in the unlikely event that he did, he wouldn’t let it go on for that length of time.
I think Mueller is done with his report, which will exonerate PDJT, and the lack of criticism and personnel moves are part of the endgame for its release.
And to further expound on my rosy scenario (couldn’t help myself), I think Rosenstein is preparing to join Flynn, Mattis, Rogers, Kelly, and a whole lot of other people, as key witnesses in various military tribunals in beautiful tropical Guantanamo Bay.
Obviously, I am feeling optimistic today.

I have a comment and/or question: the video that we often get referred to in Q posts, the one that says “This video will get Donald Trump elected”, you know the one. My question is how many people have actually viewed it? I mean I have watched it probably 5 times, it’s so uplifting and motivational for me. I have shown it to my family and linked in emails, etc. but the last time I watched it, Youtube portends that only 1.6 million views have occurred. Does Youtube only count people who have an account with them? Or does it count everyone? Does it only count people who watch the whole video or does it count every time someone clicks on it and hits ‘play’? I guess I’m just confused, the numbers don’t seem to add up, but I also am not very smart with technology either… If a website crashed after 2.2 million people went there after 1-2 minutes, I just think there would be more views to the speech video… does Youtube screw around with the numbers? I don’t know, it probably doesn’t really matter, but I was just curious.

churchmouse – it’s these kinds of stories and speculations that get me really worked up inside sometimes – and are really the things that lead me to not fully trust anything or anybody in this whole deal on either side.
now, i have a favorite of course, however the one thing i am 100% sure of is our government is fully and totally infiltrated and compromised. this was done not by a few bernie bros or some feel good refugee supporters, this was done by a mind blowingly complex web that’s been being constructed for WAY longer than any of us think.
republicans and democrats are bad. if we accept our current form of government for the way it is without almost complete overhaul and transparency then we are simply delaying the inevitable for a small season.

Here’s my problem with the idea that Barr wrote that memo to try to get Trump’s attention and become Attorney General; if that’s what he did, wouldn’t there be more people who had tried it?
What I mean is, why would the Deep State think that this guy writing a memo would make him the pick? I guess someone could have suggested him to Trump, but why would they be so certain that Trump would choose him? Wouldn’t they have a back-up? Some other potential A.G. picks who were also on their team? And what would that person have done to gain the President’s attention? Would we have seen more attacks on the Mueller investigation? Were there any others by people who had the potential to become A.G.?
Again, some are assuming that Trump saw that memo from Barr with naive eyes, and didn’t investigate further. Is that what Sun Tzu would do? Hell, even MY auto-response to what may be a pig in a poke is deep suspicion, and I am not wearing a target on my back! I can’t believe that Trump is that easily manipulated.
For me, Barr’s pick as A.G. may be the strongest sign yet that there is more going on with Mueller and Trump than meets the eye. If Sessions was the terrible mistake many think, then Trump certainly knows that he’d better get it right this time. I would think Barr had a microscope up his ___ for a while before he was chosen. I’ll bet Trump knows ALL about Barr.

In my early morning fog before the third cup of tea, so many things are swirling regarding the Foggy Bottom Theater, but I just came across something on a VOAT/QRV thread that I’d like to float here:
The Deep State is running low on cash, hence the panic about the border.
Think about it. It’s not just about bringing in illegal voters but the profits made from drugs and human trafficking. Trump put Mulvaney in charge of that consumer bureau thingy that Lie-A-Watha birthed, and cut off that particular slush fund. We’ve seen reports that line items in the federal budget are passed for one purpose and then used for another, essentially a slush fund. That avenue may well have been cut off by cabinet house cleaning that we don’t know about. And then there’s the Pentagon….
And, in the last year, there have been record breaking human trafficking ring and drug ring busts by the FBI now that they have a DOJ giving them the green light on investigations that were put on hold. That revenue stream is gone, or at least diminished.
The bad guys are hurting for cash. And given their employee rosters, it’s doubtful they really want to face pissed off employees who aren’t getting paid.
Panic.

I think the Clinton Foundation was different, to an extent. That was other governments buying influence as much as a slush fund for them. That is/was a relatively new revenue stream.
The drugs and human trafficking have been around a whole lot longer. I would venture to guess at least since the 1920s if not before given the history we do know of things like Coca-Cola which was originally made with cocaine, and that drug use dropped during the Depression when people couldn’t afford it. The west coast, specifically Portland, was a hot bed of “Shanghai” activity or kidnapping for human trafficking. Trump’s messing with a pretty well established business model.

Not sure what you mean here, Ed, but I ALWAYS trust your judgment. Important to realize that I probably only see half of your comments, at most, and when I don’t answer or “like”, it usually means I did not see it. Take that for what it’s worth. Most people don’t know that.
Nevertheless, you are probably making a wise choice against the uncertainty that I am necessarily generating. It works with multiple scenarios for common purpose. I will look over your recent posts when I get a chance, to make sure there is no misunderstanding, but I still think you are probably making a good choice.
I’ve actually learned, from this becoming a high-volume site, that most of the appearance of Sundance’s aloofness came from inability to monitor comments. I just want to make that clear. I miss a LOT of posts now, and it shows. Sundance could not even monitor the replies to his OWN comments. It’s getting that way for me, too.
I do hope to emerge stronger as this proceeds. Handing off a lot of the site’s functions, in case something happens, is necessary not only as a precaution, but as a response to all the growth. I plan to reorganize things later, and am hoping that during my absence, I may get moments of downtime when I can plan.
I can vouch for what Wolfmoon is saying. I never had NEAR the comment traffic Wolf or SD has when I blogged, but the pressure to respond to followers and monitor comments overwhelmed the time I wanted to spend writing my posts.
I FULLY expect Wolf to be absent from many comment threads because of the time it takes to write, find photos and publish the posts.
Bigger is not always better. It is why I don’t cheer the volume count on comments. I want quality rather than quantity.
This is exactly what I’m thinking. We need quality. Much of that quality comes from the community of people here.
Size also has security problems – AS WE SAW at the Treehouse – trolls come in and never leave. Social hacking is some of the easiest and most reliable, and one needs to limit new members to keep a solid bunch who allow one to leave them unmonitored while writing. That is one reason I’m so touchy about not letting the site bring in trouble.
I expect some hijinks while I’m gone. Nature of the game. Assume a few got under the wire. So I’m going to ask everybody to See Something / Say Something with Flep, Steve, and the other authors if things get weird. Individual initiative and social action are also useful tools to keep things clean here.

The new dashboard is showing up on my WP acct just fine…and it’s still tied to the old email.
Dashboard seems to be fully functional.
But I think the only way to ‘test’ it, is to make a post…which would be a blog-post.
So I guess I won’t know if it is really fully-functioning until I do a blog-post.

The glitches Steve & Wheatietoo mentioned upthread are BOTH glitches coming from WP buggy back office stuff. WordPress is notorious for soending all their time coming up with snazzy new bells & whistles, meanwhile the most mundane tasks cannot be accomplished.
Wheatietoo – I had trouble trying to change my email address at WordPress way back in 2012, and obviously they STILL haven’t fixed that glitch.

Jayme Closs, the teenage girl who has been missing since her parents were found fatally shot in their Barron County, Wisconsin home on Oct. 15, was located alive Thursday in Douglas County, according to the Barron County Sheriff’s Department.
In a statement, the department also said a suspect has been taken into custody.
The full statement said the department was notified Thursday night by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department that Closs had been located.
Douglas County is around 60 miles north of Barron County.
KSTP’s Beth McDonough said a source reports a teenage girl is said to have walked up to a woman walking her dog in Douglas County Thursday afternoon, screaming that a man had murdered her parents.
A release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Closs was located in Gordon, Wisconsin at 4:43 p.m., and a suspect was taken into custody at 4:54 p.m., also in Gordon.
The full statement on the Barron County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page read as follows:
“On Thursday evening, the Barron County Sheriff’s Department was notified by the Douglas CO WI Sheriff’s Department that they had located Jayme Closs alive.
“Shortly after this a suspect was taken into custody in regards to this case. We do not any other details at this time as this is a very fluid and active investigation. We will not be answering any questions or taking calls on this tonight.
