* That they will find new strength in God and come through this trial blameless
* That the attempts to doxx them and humiliate them will backfire spectacularly
* That the evil perpetrators will be publicly exposed and their motives laid bare, and that all their deeds and tactics that they do in darkness will be exposed to the daylight for all to see
* That all of this unfair negative attention and pressure on colleges and other institutions will have no impact on the students
* That any colleges that deny admission based on the actions of 3rd parties will find themselves in the middle of their own public relations problem over favoritism in the admissions process
* That the students will see a denial properly as a clear sign of an institution hostile to their own students and will recognize that they barely escaped a potentially disastrous college experience
Prayer for the Covington Catholic school administration and leadership:
* That they will RESIST the temptation and goading to make public statements, and will keep their comments and public statements to the absolute minimum
* That they will instead seek the best interest of their students, protect and defend them from public attack.
* That they will prioritize the needs of their students above the institutional reputation, rather than the other way around (as many institutions do, circling the wagons to defend the school while leaving students out to dry)
* Provide wise counsel to the administration: The board members, the legal team, the parents and boosters, and the public relation advisers.
* That they will resist attempts at lawfare, but that God will provide creative and unique means of resolving the issues out of court, so that not one case reaches trial
Prayer for the man involved originally in this situation
* That he will feel proper shame over his actions and publicly apologize
* That a miraculous work of reconciliation becomes possible where he and the students from Covington Catholic High School are able to meet again, face to face, peaceably and with respect
* That the students and families will become bright beacons whose love testifies the love of Christ
* That the original narrative will be broken and replaced by God’s love

My prayer is that they will be able to withstand and resist the attempts of lawfare brought against them, and that God will provide creative and unique means of resolving the issues out of court, so that not one case reaches trial.
A prayer that the weaponization of the courts will not only fail to crush them, but that anyone who attempts to bring false charges against them will be defeated.

update on my son-in-law’s eye since his Christmas Eve injury:
the doctors removed both the stitch in his eye and the contact they inserted to “hold things together” after the removal of the wire bristle that got into his eye. His recovery is going well–they do not believe there is any damage to the retina –still some swelling in the area. But the cataract that formed is progressing rapidly; he just sees shadows now with that eye. (He still had 20/20 vision with the bristle in his eye, but after it’s removal, the cataract began forming.) The earliest he can safely have the cataract surgery will be the end of February.
What a scary thing to happen! I’ll pray for healing and a skilled surgeon to correct the cataract and restore his vision.
thank you…they sent him to Philly–the Wills Eye Hospital. He was quite the interesting case when he got there. there was no blood in his eye–apparently that’s extremely rare–he had 16 doctors photographing his injury for study…
My brother has always had worse vision than me. Until, that is, he had cataracts removed. Now his distance vision is near perfect and he uses glasses only to read. So your son might end up with some very good vision out of this whole ordeal.
Hubby and I both had 2 cataracts each removed last spring and yes we both choose the distance vision over close vision (apparently the super duper lens that corrects both near and far are considered elective surgery and insurance will not cover them.)
I have better than 20/20 distance which is great for most things like driving and shooting, but reading and sewing on a button requires glasses…
SIL is a farmer so it will be a toss up for him to choose which lens to choose–he does a lot with computer screens now–on the planter, the combine–but he also drives long distance to deliver hay.
I had my contacts (which DO correct my issues) set to near. I’m actually legal to drive with them, without additional glasses, but only barely and I prefer to be able to see, so I have some very weak distance glasses.
Hopefully he will have his vision restored with the surgery. What a crazy injury.

Let’s assume, for the sake of argument, someone comes up with a self-driving car that is actually under the ownership of the driver (no scary back doors to disable the car because “they” don’t like that red hat you’re wearing) AND it is made safer than a human driver (a hurdle I believe may already have been met, given the way some people drive).
Who is liable in the event that there IS an accident? You? The writer of the car’s software?

Another Question on Emergency Crisis Declaration for the Southern Border. I’m truly not worried about legal challenge. IMO POTUS has that beat, delay or no delay. Question is I heard the House and Senate can change it with a simple vote (50%). Any one hear anything on that? If so, I’d assume the President can veto? That means the vote then has to be 2/3rds to over come. At which point I relax again. Any know for sure? (not asking about larger POTUS schemes, just the basics).
I don’t recall a time when Congress tried to change a Presidential Declaration of a State of Emergency…or an Emergency Crisis.
This doesn’t mean it’s not ‘possible’.
I just don’t remember it ever happening.
‘Securing the border’ is one of the specific duties of the federal govt, set forth in the Constitution.
So I would think the President has the power to do whatever he deems necessary, to fulfil that duty.
The Dems are already shooting themselves in the foot, by resisting PTrump’s efforts to secure the border.
If they tried to change the Presidential power to declare an Emergency…they would get major pushback.

I sounds like somebody “pushed the button” ahead of the actual announcement. What all the MSM outlets do is have the stories cued up and ready to roll ahead of time, especially with really well known people who are known to be on their way out. Every now and then a button gets pushed early.

Ohr’s claims have obliterated the FBI’s official story of how the Trump-Russia “collusion” investigation began. Among them:
Ohr: James Comey, Adam Schiff and The New York Times All Lied
According to Ohr, it would appear that James (“Higher Loyalty”) Comey directly lied on multiple occasions about who had funded the “dossier”, stating that he had no knowledge that the DNC and the Clinton campaign had paid handsomely for it through the firm Fusion GPS.
Under oath, Ohr stated he told FBI officials that the Clinton campaign had funded Steele’s activities and that his files should be considered highly suspect.
Ohr also shredded the claims that the FBI had not received the “dossier” until Septemer of 2016.
Ohr described his meeting with Fusion GPS operative Christopher Steele on July 30, 2016 during which he received the salacious and unverified “dossier”. Ohr distributed the file immediately to FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, his FBI lawyer Lisa Page, and — a short time later — Peter Strzok.
According to Ohr, Adam Schiff and the Democrats’ infamous rebuttal memo simply lied about when the FBI first found out about the “dossier”. In the memo, which attempted to refute key aspects of the majority’s Nunes document, the Democrats stated that the FBI hadn’t found out about the “dossier” until September of 2016. The New York Times echoed these false claims.
The fact that Schiff, a well-documented liar and leaker, is now the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence is a scandal of its own.
The Mueller Team is Now Implicated as Part of the Spygate Cabal
During the month of August, Ohr said he briefed several additional officials on the dossier including the head of the Fraud Unit, Andrew Weissmann and an attorney, Zainab Ahmad.
Both Weissman and Ahmad now serve on Robert Mueller’s Special Counsel, two more in a long series of conflicts of interest that render Mueller’s final report utterly compromised.
An additional question is why Ohr would brief Andrew Weissmann in the first place. The latter’s purview was fraud, not counterintelligence, and he had no business being read into this investigation.
This bizarre briefing makes it appear that Weissmann — and, by extension, Mueller himself — were all part of the cabal to influence the 2016 presidential election; and, when that failed, to see President Trump removed from office on fictional charges of “collusion”.
Comey and Obama’s FBI Lied to the FISA Court
According to Ohr, every single key official in the Obama DOJ and the FBI — Comey, McCabe, Yates, Strzok, Page, etc. — was warned that the “dossier” was the product of the Clinton campaign. Ohr stated:
When I provided [Steele’s files] to the FBI, I tried to be clear that this is source information. I don’t know how reliable it is. You’re going to have to check it out and be aware. These guys were hired by somebody relating to—who’s related to the Clinton campaign, and be aware.
Ohr also said he described Steele’s intense hatred for Trump and that he was “desperate that Donald Trump not get elected”.
He also stated that he noted that his wife, Nellie Ohr, was a Fusion GPS contractor and was responsible for helping create the “dossier”.
All of these disclaimers were apparently ignored by Comey’s FBI and completely hidden from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (which happens to be a felony).
Bruce Ohr just threw Comey, McCabe and the rest of the criminals right under the bus.
The FBI Hid Other Critical Facts from the FISA Court
Not only does Ohr confirm the key facts contained in the Nunes memo, he also highlights other information that the FBI unlawfully withheld from the FISC.
Although he had disclosed the fact that his wife had worked for Fusion GPS, the FBI chose to conceal this critical fact from the court.
Internecine Conflict
James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Bruce Ohr, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, Sally Yates and many other key officials related to Obama’s thoroughly politicized “Justice Department” are now openly at war with one another.

There is no doubt the Catholic church has some VERY deep-seated problems that must be solved. However, I should not attribute that to all those who adhere to the Catholic faith – that was not fair of me. As with the government, the “rank and file” are just as much victims as anyone. The organization itself is corrupt but not the vast majority of the individual members of the church. I do wonder, however, why they don’t speak up (or maybe they do and I am simply unaware) about this fascist pope. I know very little about the Catholic faith but I could never subscribe to the theory that one must have a priest to intercede for them with God.
my parents both came from Catholic families–my Great Aunt was a Mother Superior in her little Order until she passed away. My siblings and I were baptized but never received any formal instruction in the faith–that was up to us if we wanted.
In the latter part of my teens, I became interested in the faith–spurred by many conversations with my Great Aunt Catharine–she was a tiny woman so filled with life and love–she was inspiring.
I remember my first confession–before I made my first Holy Communion. I was nervous but made an honest confession and afterwards I went into the church to do my penance. When i was done, I walked out of the church, and was enveloped in a beam of sunlight and I could feel–actually feel–the Holy Spirit filling me from my toes up to my head. That feeling remains with me today–the most spiritual, loving moment in my life.
I had a long discussion about my experience with my Priest, and I determined that I had totally done my penance wrong–lol–and I was mortified. I promised Father I would rectify it immediately and he smiled and said it wasn’t necessary–my heart had done it correctly.
I don’t think strict adherence to rituals and procedures matters as much as what’s in your heart. jmo

I have no doubt there are many truly good priests, just as there are many truly good Protestant pastors. I experienced something similar back in 1974 on Easter Sunday. I had gotten myself into a bad situation with an abusive man with whom I was living and things were all topsy-turvy with my parents. My Dad helped me get out of it and I returned home, feeling really embarrassed and like a black sheep. When we went to church Easter Sunday, one of the elders greeted me warmly and made me feel welcomed back into the fold. The sermon subject was forgiveness. It was very cloudy when the service started but the sun was shining brightly when we came out of the church. As I walked out into the bright sunshine, I felt a HUGE burden lifted from my heart.

Oh, dear! And here I was complaining last night about temps in the single digits! We have been spoiled this winter – unusually warm so far and a paucity of snow. Last year, on NY’s day, my pipes froze up (because I had failed to get into the crawl space and close the vents – duh!) after wind chills in the negative 20’s.
For socal now here is 55 degrees. Shorts and tshirt inside. But i see people in flipflops still!
My son lives in SC – he is in his element in shirt sleeves in the 40’s – everyone else hauls out the winter coats! LOL

This story is all about preconceived notions and the humor therein, and how we really shouldn’t prejudge people, lest we make fools of ourselves. Grab a cup of coffee.
When we first opened, we had 4 couples visit from San Francisco. They were urban, metro, very cosmopolitan, fussy/rude, and full of preconceived notions about southern states. When they first arrived, they told me they were doing their great southern tour to broaden their horizons. Okay, fine. They were THRILLED with their tour of the Delta region where “they actually met local black people at a bass shop”. It was as though they never met ‘real black people’. Gosh, I sure would have loved to have heard the story of the encounter from the other side. I figured it was probably a ‘bait shop’ which the guy owned. We’re used to this kind of attitude but people usually settle down after a good night’s sleep.
The couples all loved their rooms and were amazed they had their own bathrooms (I have 13 bathrooms) and all seemed well. We settled in for the night. I knew I had to get up early because they gave me a laundry list of things they could not eat, thus breakfast was going to be a challenge. My husband was helping me in the kitchen that morning, which was unusually kind. My first husband had a full beard and was wearing a flannel shirt and jeans on a chilly morning.
Suddenly, out of the kitchen window, he saw a squirrel at the bird feeder and complained about my feeders attracting rodents. I brushed him off. He watched the squirrel and I’ll be darned if the squirrel didn’t head towards the house. He listened intently. Sure enough, the squirrel was scampering up the foamy insulation along the AC lines and into our attic. He grabbed my son’s BB gun/Air Rifle “thingy” by the back door and headed outside to ‘do battle with the squirrel’.
At the same time, in room #1, the man was proposing marriage to the woman. The room has a 15′ wide bay window and they were seated in front of the window in big arm chairs, looking out among the trees. He was down on one knee. She said yes. About the same time, a little squirrel scampered across the window sill and paused to look in. They thought it was cute. She slipped the ring on her finger and for a moment, they were in nature, she was princess of the forest, he was Prince Charming, the animals all adored them, and life was perfect…..
….. until my husband shot the squirrel.
The squirrel was nicked, and in pain, grasping at the windowsill. The couple stood up, shocked and shrieking in horror. Trying to grasp the situation, they saw my husband at ground level, “a wild looking woodsman” aiming a gun. When, “Oh my GOD, he shot it again!!” He hit the squirrel again and the squirrel fell. The couple was aghast.
I was in the kitchen, making German pancakes and oblivious. Our house is all plaster walls and you can’t hear anything.
Like a bolt of lightning the couple were out of their room and banging on the doors of the other 3 couples, “There’s a man with a gun downstairs!!!!!!!!” They ALL panicked! All four couples RACED down the stairs like an elephant stampede and flew into the kitchen from the dining room entrance. The house shook with all of them on the stairs and I wondered what was happening when they hit the kitchen at Mach 5. They were breathless, scared stiff, screaming, all talking at once, so I couldn’t understand them.
Within seconds, and before I could speak, the back door swung open. Their eyes went wide. My husband walked into the back door, BBgun in hand. The couples FROZE. It was their personal face to face encounter with a burly man holding a gun. The seconds ticked by like hours. Husband said, “I got him.”, referring to the squirrel. I looked at the San Franciscans, who were clearly mortified and said……,
“Have you met my husband?”
The couples were here for several days. All was well. We celebrated the engagement. The women were young and I spent time teaching them how to cook. They curled up and cried like babies and told me every story of every bad boyfriend they had — in the kitchen — where women reveal all their secrets. Yet, before they left all of the men and two of the women became very curious about guns. They went shooting with my husband in the country and had a FABULOUS time.
Ahhh yes, preconceived notions get us into trouble all the time. We’re really not that different after all.

Just a few thoughts on the Covington Catholic smear of the past weekend. I am not usually surprised by the vicious response of the Left on these matters but the actions of National Review personnel were something of an eye-opener with respect to how compromised the ‘official’ Conservative movement is. Rich Lowrey, the managing editor of National Review, tweeted out his condemnation of the boys. Jay Nordlinger, long-time columnist, also tweeted his disapproval saying in part, “… An American disgrace.” Of course, they, not yet being satisfied with their foolishness, decided to have someone hold their beer with this pearl of an article from one Nicholas Frankovich, a deputy managing editor, entitled “The Covington Catholic Students May as Well Have Just Spit on the Cross.” Thus, in a nutshell, we saw the wise judgment of our Conservative intellectuals on display.
Of course when the truth made their opinions and National Review a laughingstock, they showed great courage by scrubbing all references to erroneous tweets and articles. Actually they behaved in a way that Progressives would admire. I don’t think any of them are in imminent danger of being banned on Twitter.
However I do have a question for which someone on this board may know the answer. I am curious to know: Does anyone know if National Review has received their check from Mr. Soros?

Well, this is interesting – I certainly never knew all of this! I still question this bit about SS being taxed – mine isn’t, at least to my knowledge. I only have to file when I earn extra at my part-time job and I get all my taxes refunded. Since I reach full retirement age next month, I can earn up to almost $47K before losing any SS. I think SSDI is taxed but not basic SS. If anyone here knows the facts, I would welcome the info.

Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn’t know this. It’s easy to check out, if you don’t believe it. Be sure and show it to your family and friends. They need a little history lesson on what’s what and it doesn’t matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts.
Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION message was removed.
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program and stated:
1.) That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary [No longer voluntary],
2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program [Now 7.65% on the first $90,000, and 15% on the first $90,000 if you’re self-employed],
3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year [No longer tax deductible],
4.) That the money the participants put into the independent ‘Trust Fund’ rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program [Under Johnson the money was moved to the General Fund and Spent], and
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income [Under Clinton & Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed].
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month — and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to ‘put away’ — you may be interested in the following:

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate.

Which is NOT to say I don’t agree with the sentiment that the government puts its tentacles in far too many places. It’s just that I doubt this legal theory would be effective in blunting its overreach.
Oh, there are consequences in the attendant difficulties but this is really just generally informative rather than very instructional.

Okay, short story about waking up this morning. Radio is on, news station giving rather good national commentary, the host gets it, (not Q but POTUS) and manages to slide in a lot national stuff with the local stuff. Anyway news comes on at the half hours and often they will say something, short blurb style, not repeated for the rest of the day . Today it was it was one of the CFO’s of HEB, a popular grocery chain down in the Texas area is considering a run as an Independent for the Presidency.
Needless to say I was at first a bit miffed upon hearing that, but then I figured out this closet liberal would likely steal more votes from the liberals than republicans.
Anyway to the point. It’s not just going to be a long list of Democrats were going to be hearing about, the spoilers will be coming out too. And I think we all realize it but just mentioning so as to be ready for it.

I took my father’s CAR from him just months before he was 89… because he was a danger to others. (He got over it and gave the car to one of my nephews.)
Getting your wings clipped so to speak is hard… but Prince has PLENTY of paid and otherwise people to drive him. How irresponsible for a man who can barely walk to be driving… any man. Some role model for the elderly, right?

It was really hard… I had to take baby steps to get his keys. He had a stroke (mild) and I asked primary doc to suggest he not drive until he saw him in six weeks. Doc did so… Dad and I talked about it and he agreed to it. Then I stopped by the assisted living facility where he resided and the women told me he had just driven back from … Another ‘talk’ (he said he forgot!) … another violation…
I talked with late husband and we agreed to drive over to his residence and bring his car back. Ohh Dad was so angry with me when I told him car was being moved to my house. First time he had ever gotten angry with me in decades, since I was a teen-ager I’m sure. But, he was a reasonable man, and once he processed it, he realized the time had come.
I know it’s hard… had same situation with my late Mom.
Sure it won’t be long when I have to face the same… only hope I won’t resist, and if I do, have already told grandson what to do 🙂
Both my wife and I had situations where we discussed with our mothers the need to stop driving and let others take the wheel (what’s not to like? let someone else do the work…). In both cases, the increase in traffic, etc., and the fact that as one ages, one’s world (range) gets smaller, the cars get wider, and the streets get narrower 🙂 (at least it is for me 🙂 ).
Here’s an inspiring tale of someone’s Grandma. Al least my Mom (and my wife’s) didn’t wait so long, but they still had the joy in their hearts 🙂

Grandma’s letter — She is eighty-nine years old and still drives her own car. She writes:
Dear Grand-daughter:
The other day I went up to our local Christian book store and saw a
“Honk if you love Jesus” bumper sticker. I was feeling particularly
sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance,
followed by a thunderous prayer meeting. So, I bought the sticker and
put it on my bumper. Boy, am I glad I did, what an uplifting experience
that followed.
I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about
the Lord and how good He is, and I didn’t notice that the light had changed.
It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn’t honked,
I’d never have noticed. I found that lots of people love Jesus!
While I was sitting there, the guy behind started honking like crazy,
and then he leaned out of his window and screamed,
“For the love of God! Go! Go! Go! Jesus Christ, GO!”
What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus! Everyone started honking!
I just leaned out my window and started waving and smiling at all those
loving people. I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love!
There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him
yelling something about a sunny beach.
I saw another guy waving in a funny way with only his middle finger
stuck up in the air. I asked my young teenage grandson in the back seat
what that meant. He said it was probably a Hawaiian good luck sign or
something. Well, I have never met anyone from Hawaii, so I leaned out
the window and gave him the good luck sign right back. My grandson burst
out laughing. Why even he was enjoying this religious experience!!
A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got
out of their cars and started walking towards me. I bet they wanted to pray or
ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed.
So, I waved at all my brothers and sisters grinning, and drove on through the
intersection. I noticed that I was the only car that got through the intersection
before the light changed again and felt kind of sad that I had to leave them
after all the love we had shared. So I slowed the car down, leaned out the window
and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away.
Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks!! Will write again soon,

COINTELPRO, the program in which leftist groups were actively infiltrated and undermined, officially ended in 1971, and Hoover had died in May of 1972. This was after “Hoover’s FBI” stopped being Hoover’s FBI, yet a “counterintelligence effort” was still very much alive and thriving to undermine the will of the electorate and prevent them from electing leftists to office.
This one admission, by itself, is in my opinion more than enough to justify the FBI’s total dissolution. The third paragraph of the Wikipedia page gives the official rationale. And I think it’s a good rationale, particularly if they’re going to be responsible for counterterrorism. BUT it is open to abuse (because it isn’t the only real reason)–and has been abused.
As to the larger question of whether such an agency should even exist even shorn of stuff it has been doing outside its original charter, well, as long as there is such a thing as a Federal crime, there will have be an entity to enforce it. The trick is to limit federal crimes to what’s absolutely necessary to protect our rights (so, e.g., federal gun control laws should go away), and to limit the FBI to enforcing them. And that would specifically exclude the internal anti-wrong-political-party police state functions you mention. (The left was on the bad end of that in the past, and we’ve got every reason to believe the Deplorables are on the bad end of it now.)
Another useful function the FBI sometimes performs is as a “clearinghouse” for states to share information on crimes that happen in multiple places, with the hope of eventually collaring the (interstate) criminal. However, I don’t see that it needs arrest power to do that.
I think Federal Marshals used handle things before the FBI
They still handle a lot of things. Even if something FBI-esque is retained, it probably ought to be completely rebuilt with new personnel.
But ANY organization tasked with law enforcement is a hazard. Giving FBI responsibilities to the Marshals might simply mean 30 years from now we’ll be making the exact same complaints about the Marshals.

Disneyland just raised their prices again. For our family it would be a 500 -600 day, no hotel, just the day! Mine likes snoopy and i let him see the old disney but not most of the new things. I tell him going and doing something is better than stuff. Stuff can be taken away, but like your education or memories they cant.
