I don’t think I know any ragtime, beyond what I have heard in movies (e.g., ‘The Sting’, maybe?).
For blues, I probably like a lot of it, but I’m really mostly familiar with blues rock, or rock derived from blues (e.g., Led Zeppelin I [1968], Janis Joplin’s ‘Pearl’ [1971], Little Feat, Allman Brothers).
I have a few what I would guess might be called ‘blues’ albums:

What if you don’t study it, what if you just take music as it is, with a pure conscience?
Or even if you do study it, would it not a matter of conscience, as the Scriptures teach?
For example, 1 Cor 10:25-33, or 1 Cor 8:4-13, where Paul acknowledges liberty, but also to take heed so that our liberty would not become a stumbling block to others who for conscience sake or weakness in faith (or knowledge) may disagree?
I would certainly abstain from any such music around someone for whom it was an offense of some kind.
I don’t really know any Christian rock. I’m a little leery of the concept, simply from the standpoint of sound doctrine. There is so much error taught today, and I would expect that some of that error shows up in contemporary Christian music as well.
There are of course some classic or ‘popular music’ type songs that have Christian themes, e.g., “Jesus is Just All Right (with me)” (the Doobie Bros.), ‘Whenever God Shines His Light’ (Van Morrison), “Redemption Song” (Bob Marley), etc.
Or Alison Krauss, singing ‘Down in the River to Pray’. Our song leader chose this song a couple weeks ago in church, and to my knowledge we had never sung this song as a congregation. The song leader and the elders certainly seemed surprised that the congregation knew this song, and sang it like we wrote it 😁

If it was something which bothered you, I would certainly refrain from playing it in your presence.
Likewise, in matters of conscience, should we not be careful to not bind others?
It reminds me of women wearing a covering for their head during worship services. Some women do, and others do not, each with a clear conscience. Those who do wear a covering do not bind that practice on those who don’t, and vice versa.
Music in itself is certainly not sinful, and while certain types of music have traditionally been associated with sinful conduct, hasn’t most public entertainment (e.g., theater) been associated with similar conduct, throughout the ages?
It seems that, like most things, music should be considered on a case by case basis.
No doubt, many songs have been written by very sinful people. Were all of the songs in the hymn books at church not written by sinful people as well?
Does that mean that we can’t sing them with a pure conscience, to use it for good, so long as what the words say reconcile and harmonize with God’s Word?
I am not trying to make excuses for anything which is clearly wrong. The reality is that we live in a secular world, surrounded by sin almost all the time. We need to be cognizant of that reality, and resist temptation.
It is an interesting subject.

Musicians are just people, i.e., none are perfect. Many have great songs, and other songs I could do without. If I threw the baby out with the bathwater (so to speak), I would miss some music that I have truly enjoyed in this life.
Life is hard. Joy is (too often) few and far between. Sometimes music helps fill the gaps. Or maybe sometimes it’s just a comfort. I know for many people, music is not so important, they can take it or leave it. For other people, music is something they connect with, in a way that others don’t seem to.
There is good and bad, of course.
To borrow a line from The Band’s “The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down”, you take what you need and you leave the rest.

I understand, and there are some songs that are that way for me too, those which are overtly or primarily about promiscuous sex or a positive portrayal of drug use.
Those songs which have a negative portrayal of drug use would seem to be a good thing — or at least not a bad thing — and generally speaking, it seems that most (or at least many) songs of the classic rock era that reference drugs do so in a negative way.
For example, ‘Sister Morphine’ (Rolling Stones, ‘Sticky Fingers’ album, 1971) is certainly not a song that would make anyone want to go out and try morphine (lyric: “Cause you know, and I know, in the morning, I’ll be dead…“).

Same for me, more so after I became a Christian, when I put more thought into what certain songs were saying.
Music is an art form, and as such, there is usually a wide range of potential interpretation. That seems to be one of the main reasons song writers generally don’t like to explain their songs, because they mean different things to different people, and if the artist gives their own meaning or interpretation, it would be like forcing you to hear it in a certain way, that would change what it means for everyone else.
Instead, in most cases, each person sort of makes a song ‘their own’ based on their own life experiences and what they bring to the song.

Harry Chapin, Fairport Convention, Little Feat or Bill Withers?
Harry might be the least well known, which is a shame. He has some of the best ‘story’ songs…
Fairport Convention included Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson (among others). Sandy Denny sang the female vocal part on ‘Battle of Evermore’ (Led Zeppelin IV, 1971), which many people will know.
Bill Withers is probably best known for the song “Lean on Me (when you’re not strong)”.
Little Feat may be best known for the song ‘Dixie Chicken’ (the live version from ‘Waiting for Columbus’, 1978, gets most of the radio play). The lead singer was Lowell George. He’s long gone now, but his daughter Inara George sings a very nice solo piano rendition of her father’s song “Trouble”. The original (sung by Lowell) appeared on Little Feat’s second album (Sailin’ Shoes,/i>, 1972).

In Italian, a cappella means “in chapel or choir style.” Cappella is the Italian word for “chapel”; the English word chapel is ultimately (if independently) derived from the Medieval Latin word cappella, which is the source of the Italian cappella as well.

There were no musical instruments in the early church, neither is there any Authority in Scripture for instrumental music in New Testament worship.
If I recall correctly, there are 11 Scriptural references to singing praises to God in worship, and every one of them is vocal only.
Like so many things, it eventually became a source of controversy, because some wanted musical accompaniment, while those who adhere to the Authority of God’s Word cannot accept the addition of musical instrumentation in worship.
It may seem like a small thing to some, but there are examples in Scripture showing that God takes proper worship quite seriously (e.g., two of Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, were killed by God for offering strange fire, i.e., fire from an unauthorized source). And if you allow one thing, how can you disallow the next thing, without being a hypocrite? After that, where does it end? This is the problem, and how we end up so many different churches teaching different things today.
It is a very interesting study. If I remember correctly, Pope Vitalian introduced the organ in the late 600s. Thomas Aquinas was against it. Nearly all of the Protestant church leaders (Luther, Wesley & Clarke, Erasmus, Calvin, Beza, Spurgeon, et al) rejected musical instruments for the same reasons as Justin Martyr, Clement of Alexandria, Tertullian, Eusebius, Augustine, and Chrysostom — because it was not ‘a capella’ and not according to Scripture.

I meant to add, that most (if not all) of the churches founded by or associated with the Protestant Reformers and early Protestant Churches (Luther, Wesley & Clarke, Erasmus, Calvin, Beza, Spurgeon, et al) have musical instrumentation in worship today, even though it was one of the things Protestant Reformers and founders of the Protestant denominations expressly rejected.
It is only over time that this error, like others, was allowed back in.
Musical instrumentation in worship was used in Jewish (Old Testament) worship, but not in the New Testament church.
Thomas Aquinas, considered an authority in the RCC by many, rejected it as well.

I love old maps, too, Wheatie. It is fascinating to study the changes in various states. I have a book of Colorado history that is loaded with maps and iverlays. I can spend hours looking at maps, and usually have an atlas nearby regardless of the book I am reading. There is always a country, city, river or mountain range to locate! I use topographical maps in my artwork.

There is soo much good info on them.
We bought topos of the entire state of NC before we went hunting for a new home. I still use maps instead of a GPS system. I want to be able to know where I am not just follow directions.

GPS is nice…but it is not infallible and it requires a gizmo which needs electrical power.
A paper map is something you can use even when the power has been out for weeks.
The GPS not infallible is the I gotcha. Try having to back up a truck and trailer or turn it around in unfamiliar busy streets! NO THANK YOU. I will stick with my maps.
BTW be aware that maps WILL put in roads that are not there as copyright protection. I saw it on two maps. One where I was familiar with the area and the second, where I ran up and down the four lane looking for an exit that did not exist in the middle of the night. GRRrrrr
Special affection for truck drivers. Because soldiers and LE can’t be everywhere, God made truck drivers.
Though I have my CDL and have driven a big rig, I drive a pickup hauling a horse trailer. The CDL training was well worth the money and made me a MUCH better driver.
And yes, I have a special affection for truckers. On long trips, I like to tuck in behind a Big Rig (not too close) On four lanes I will always try to help them with lane changes.

The Salmon River Road for white knuckle drivers only. Hell they paved over air.
I had a conference in Seattle and asked my daughter to fly out and join me for a road trip down the Oregon coast and the redwoods of Northern California then back up the spine of the Cascades to view as many volcanic peaks as possible. So I trusted GPS to get me between point A (Eureka, CA) to point B (Mount Shasta) and as we drove along the Salmon River the road narrows down to a one lane road and you can’t turn around. My daughter was driving and she stopped and opened her door once and looked straight down to the wild river below. 60 miles and 4.5 hours later you experience a drive that you will never ever forget. Mt. Shasta at sunset was worth the drive.

I have been on that nightmare road once! never again, never again. I swear that road is why I have PTSD. the other nightmare road was out of Bakersfield, going up to lake Isabella, theres a warning sign with flashing lights before entering that says DANGER! no turn outs. you could see scrape marks on the rock slabs to the right where big rigs were trying to keep from going into the river below. We were going about 5 miles ph and saw a couple of cars and one pickup that had went over and down into the river on the way up. I dreaded the trip out of the there. cant believe people really lived up in there.
For me GPS is a God send I am directional challenged .

Funny thing I always got where I was supposed to go but never remember street names . I use to drive intuitively. With GPS I pray less to get there where I am supposed to go.
Maps I had to force myself to read them but still wrote on paper direction.
I envy people who look at a map memories it and drive.
For my friend who comes with me much of the time, I use written directions. I also make sure to give the name of the street BEFORE the street we are supposed to turn onto. That way we do not have to creep along hoping not to overshoot the turn.
the first time we voted, we found the address easily enough on line, but used our GPS to “find” the location a week before election day. we were sitting on the major highway thru town when we began–the GPS took us 5 miles OUT of town and then had us turn around and return to town. we turned down the street just past where we had been sitting programming the address into the GPS. It simply could have said turn around–the street is right behind you!

I try to use “gps” apps in a way not intended–I want to see a map, oh, several miles wide if not dozens of miles, and the damned things want to zoom in to show me three blocks.
I deal with maps all day through the week.

I spent what for me was a LOT of money in 1988 or so buying the Times Atlas of the World…and it got obsoleted within three years!! Fortunately I found a (just barely obsolete) later edition a few years later on clearance! (I’m still not sure what happened to make that one obsolete).

We didn’t start this trade war…China and other countries did, and they’ve been hitting us for decades.
Up until 1913 the USA federal government was funded by tariffs not income tax. Of course imported goods were mainly for the rich so it was a tax on the RICH. NO WONDER they wanted an income tax on the WAGES of the Middle class!
Although Prohibition came later, the income tax was passed by the prohibition forces (very, very powerful) to remedy the chief objection to prohibition: the loss of revenue.
The federal government got 40 % of its revenue from tax on alcohol (IIRC).
Prohibition was a direct cause of the income tax. The guy behind Prohibition (forget his name, begins with W), was by far the most powerful political force in America at the time, affecting both parties profoundly. If you crossed him, you lost your election.
He understood that the income tax was a necessary condition to pass prohibition, and he got it done.
Thus, the “higher” cause of coerced sobriety trumped the destruction of our Constitutional arrangement, and vastly increased the power of government in many destructive ways.
Prohibition was maybe the second worst thing to happen to this country (after slavery), as it unleashed Hell we still live with in many ways. The difference is, prohibition could have been avoided entirely.

You were chewing over the pros and cons of a Convention of the States or Article V Convention.
May I suggest that the correct course of action is to use an AMENDMENT? This allows changes to the Constitution but in a very controlled manner.
I see ZERO reason for an Article V Convention unless the intention is a complete rewrite of the present Constitution and that scares the heck out of me!
Remember it would be POLITICIANS doing the rewrite and not We The People.
For the life of me I see no reason to even start a conversation about an Article V Convention when we can use an Amendment instead.
Actually that brings up another thought.

And critically important, our Rights are GOD-GIVEN and unalienable… the Bill of Rights only RECOGNIZES and guarantees them. They were not GIVEN by government, and they cannot lawfully be taken away by government.

I live in a very beautiful place, with a high cost of living, low wages, and little industry. We say “you can’t eat the scenery!”
For a lot of people here, most of their protein comes from that deer or elk in the freezer every year.
Protection from tyrants, #1 indeed. But it’s hard to fight if you are starving. And there’s not a lot of crime out here, where there are more guns by far than people. So for us, hunting is WAY up the list, probably higher than self-defense.
Hunting for food is very common in my area too. We lease to a Hunt Club.
That was the Best decision we ever made! They were really worried that New England Horse Owners (us) would have a hissy fit over the idea of hunting near their horses. Instead we welcomed them with open arms. A hunt Club means our land is patroled and unwanted trash hunters (from the city) are kicked out. It also gave us instant access to the ‘Ole Boys’ network. Want a carpenter or mechanic or plumber or… Just ask the hunt club. 😁 And they will fix you right up with someone decent.
I do not hunt but we do end up with venison in the freezer on occasion. YUM!

According to Levin and others, the purpose of the Convention is to propose such amendments, which would have to be passed by 2/3 of the States. Normally, it is members of Congress who instigate this process – this is the venue for a 2/3 majority of the States to do it. However, as Publius Huldah has said – all the Constitution says is “…shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments…” It doesn’t specify who CONTROLS that Convention. What happens after that is what I need to study yet. I haven’t gotten to the Professor’s explanation but when I do, I will post what I find out.
And, of course, a simple reading of the Constitution would be required before embarking on such a journey. My pocket copy is quite worn by now! LOL – I ALWAYS begin with a thorough examination of the original from the Founders’ perspective.
Article 5 of the Constitution:

TWO ways to propose “Amendments”
1) CONgress: 2/3 of BOTH houses required to propose “Amendments”.
2) STATES: 2/3 of all STATE Legislatures required to propose “Amendments”.
3/4 of STATE Legislatures must ratify “Proposed Amendment(s)” to become Law.
(No matter which of the 2 ways the “Amendment(s)” are Proposed)
It would be pretty tough to re-do the WHOLE Constitution….

Ah, a woman after my own heart – my problem (as we all know) is tamping down the snark/sarcasm. Having not had much formal education, when I hear a new word, I ALWAYS look it up to add to my lexicon. I learned early on in my career with the Beltway Bandits that in order to project a professional demeanor and gain respect, an extended vocabulary was tremendously helpful.
NF, I’m self-educated, so my actual writing skills – correct punctuation, being grammatically correct – are always a challenge – but words – they’re lovely entities which I discovered by loving books. If one can read, one can do anything. Yes, I love your comments, and everyone else’s remarks here. The amount of Q-Treepers’ knowledge is remarkable.

If you want to learn to write, take a book you like and a writer whose style you admire and WRITE THE WHOLE BOOK OUT LONG HAND!
For newspaper writting Dick Pothier, at the beginning of the class, would hand out a fact sheet (5 Ws) in no particular order. The students had 10 minutes to turn those facts into a written news story. By the end of the semester, students could not only write a good news story, they could write it FAST.
My tech writting teacher taught us to put the problem and solution in the first SHORT paragraph with the supporting evidence in the bulk of the report. Senior Execs do not have the time to read long reports.

The grammatically correct and sentence structure are my specialties, having had a teacher in my adopted Mom, Grandmother and Aunt. I gained a ton of skill particularly in business contract/correspondence preparation/editing/enforcement from the BB’s. Honestly, I am thankful pretty much every single day that I left NE and went to NOVA. Otherwise, hmmmm…….I just might be one of these women I see here who have absolutely no ambition whatsoever, keep popping out a baby now and then, are on welfare and medicaid, and live with men who are truly nothing but bums and manipulative assholes. It just baffles me why they do this!!!! Such a narrow-minded view of the world is just stultifying, IMO.

Good point. Keep in mind too that other cultures have different norms of what the consider ethical, compared with the United States and the Christian influence we are still blessed with. People can be brought in who are less adverse to the kinds ends-directed programming that they are being asked to develop. Heck, in many cases those individuals are more willing to embrace and even contribute improvements and innovations into the system. If you’ve been through the diversity training, you’ll know quickly that “bringing fresh outside perspectives” is a key stated goal of the diversity program, and recruiters’ performance are measured via KPIs that specifically reward this. It sounds all rosy on the surface, but when you look close you see that ‘diversity’ is only skin-deep with these people. They want a diversity of external and highly visible (virtue signalling) attributes, but in terms of ethics and ideology the drive is for monoculture. In their perception, “normal” is the WASP male Christian American (the enemy of all leftists), and diversity means putting that down and Christian ethical norms at every opportunity. H1B is one means to achieving the moral and ideological transformations they want – elimination of Judeo-Christian ethics – under the double-speak banner of “diversity”. Their “inclusion” of “outside perspectives” is really about marginalization and exclusion of those they consider the wrong people. Blatant prejudice and bigotry at work in a systematic institutionalized machine whose primary purpose is to grind out individuality, moral norms of right/wrong, drive ideological conformity, and make the worker bees easier to control. So much for being for the workers!

One summer, I was banished to a trusted cousin’s horse farm, but I was the only kid there. The farmhouse was enormous (or was I little?). An elderly aunt and I were the only ones who spent the night on the farm.
I searched for something to do during the evenings.
That was the summer I discovered Reader’s Digest, read all the funny parts, and took the vocab tests. She also had National Geographics from the 1920’s-70’s. The articles were interesting but every few months, National Geographic would print a map. When I left, she gave me the whole stack of magazines, which I still have. Have used the maps countless times for projects, framing, etc. They’re beautiful.

They cite an extensive study were resumes were stripped of names and gender ID and women were asked for an interview over 50% of the time BUT when gender cues were added, only 5% of the women were asked for an interview.
Only one problem, the alleged study cited by the NYTimes does not exist.

I will say this much having worked around tech, although not in it, it’s very much a man’s world. And men have a way of working together and doing business that many women just don’t get. Fitting in takes flexibility, and a willingness to not complain too much in front of the guys.

I also hate to admit it, but I prefer working with men.

speaking as a woman here…. men dont get butthurt over every little slight nor are men catty like women can be. most women today ,not all !stressing this, but a lot of younger women seem to believe they are entitled to that which they have not earned nor worked for, the men I know have understood since they were young life is hard ,you will work your butt off till you retire. men tend to let things go and not carry a load of grudges, thats how men mostly operate. my sons friends who have married have as the biggest complaint about being married is that they are expected to go to work and come home and do the cooking ,laundry and house cleaning. I was just shaking my head at that one. this is the end result of the women’s lib movement. all of this is JMO.
Actually if you are a women you are MORE likely to get hired in technical fields because there are just not that many of us. Our brains are not generally wired in that direction. The studies I looked at eons ago found men were more ?spatial? That is they are wired to know WHERE they are. Women are wired to put up with repetitive tasks.
So men do better in math (spatial) and engineering (visual)
At one company I worked for there were about thirty inspectors. ALL women. The manager would hire men but they never stayed more than a few months. The reason they left? They became bored.
BTW one of my caving buddies ALWAYS knew which direction north was even after hours in a twisting cave. Another caving buddy who was blind, led me off a mountain in the dark of night in the pouring rain. I was supposed to be leading him but that lasted about 3 minutes.😁 We spent 40 minutes getting off that darn mountain and he led me right up to my truck’s door! The guy was also a professor of mathematics and had his eyes removed at age two due to cancer. He was truly an incredible person.
We need movies about people like him.

Guys I wanted to give you an update. After some steady improvement, I have taken another turn downward. It appears that I am losing the vision in my left eye. My hearing has also declined. Now my right ear is also diminishing. I already cannot hear out of my left ear. The constant headaches have disappeared and have been replaced with these occasional massive ones. All from my traumatic brain injury suffered last year.
For the first time, I am frightened as to what happens next. My doctors cannot seem to stop what is happening. The magnitude of this is much greater than I prefer. I have ordered hearing aids and hopefully I will be able to hear better. I am trying to stay positive but I have to admit it’s hard. Each day is more of a struggle.
My days of commenting on things are going to come to an end soon as I am having trouble reading now. I wish I had better news. I have no idea why God chose this path for me but it sucks. I feel very alone.
Hopefully I typed comments that make sense as I have no ability to edit now. My apologies if I left words out or misspelled.

I do understand your pain it is distressing not only to loose eyesight but also hearing.
I myself battling Macular degeneration for past 20 years it’s inherited. I get injections every 6 weeks in my eye.
My one eye vision is just about gone. The feeling of helplessness and loneliness is normal and nothing to feel embarrass about.
Faith is a great friend and support at least for me. My energy is now not focus on the macular but on the blessings that I still enjoy. Positive energy overcomes anythings and evokes a gratefulness for me.
Know that you are loved and there. There is more to you than eyes you might not think so now going through mourning. The loss is real but know there is hope.
Getting hearing aid is a good first step. There are other tools for eye loss. Your eye doctor can advise to you organizations that will help you.
Please come and post when you can because you are among friends.

When you suffer a blow to the head, the upper cervical area is also affected. He had every test available, completed post concussion therapy programs, saw vestibular therapists, did vision therapy, wore prism lenses, tried medication, etc. Nothing helped. He had given up all hope until he found this dr.
He did a 360 scan on my son’s neck while he was seated instead of the traditional x-rays, MRI’s and cat scans. Those tests did not show what happens to his neck when it has upright pressure on it. The upper bones were twisted pressing on the bundle of nerves traveling to and from the brain stem.
If you are getting worse and not better after a head injury something is very wrong. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Something’s wrong, doctors can’t figure it out – GET NEW DOCTORS!
I have a friend with a very weird type of lung cancer, special medications (via a medical study, btw – look into medical studies, too!) – and he kept losing weight. Nothing would stay down, and the doctors couldn’t figure it out.
I asked him HOW he was eating, and it turns out he was eating while in bed, semi-reclining. I told him to get out of bed and SIT UP STRAIGHT while eating. My grandmother’s advice! And IT WORKED.
Too many doctors are in their own echo-chambers of knowledge. They often look only to a closed set of answers, when presented with riddles.
Long ago, I had migraines, with partial vision loss. Somehow, I think you’ve got PRESSURE causing this, and if the CAUSE is diagnosed properly, and treated, I suspect the symptoms you’re having will abate / disappear.
You are, and have been, in our thoughts here, Ed! That won’t change! Take your time, stay in touch with / via Tonawanda.

I called that doctor and they happen to be very close to where I live. They are not covered under insurance so I have to sort this out.

You might want to check out setting up a crowd funding account to help pay for any extra medical expenses you can’t afford. I was just reading that at Go Fund Me, for instance, about a third of the funding appeals are medically related.
Also, maybe tonawanda(sp?), or other family members, can help by sponsoring you in setting up an account.
EmeraldStar, you are so right. Doctors are their own echo chamber. See my story below. Before finally getting to a neurosurgeon I had seen 3 neurologists, 2 PCPs, 2 pain mgmt docs – doing steroid injections – which caused me to have to have other surgery because steroids harm women in other ways, and none of them realized the FIRST doc I should have been referred to when the tipping point came – was a good neurosurgeon. Now they’re all mea culpa after the fact.
I try not to think about it… but so much want to write some of those docs about their poor care and missed diagnosis.
When they couldn’t help my son the medical people blamed him and said he wasn’t getting better because he had psychological problems. This patient blaming nearly destroyed my son. He was ready to end his life.

Does this remind anyone of what we as a country are dealing with now? Psychological projection – i.e., it was THEY, the ineffective doctors, who had “psychological problems”. Pfft.
My friend (a former Marine) went from a hearty 162# to an emaciated 113#. He almost died, for lack of aliment. NONE of the doctors possessed the down-home, common-sense, “country-doctor” wisdom necessary to look at the WHOLE problem.
I’m glad your son – with your help, of course – got through it.
I hope, for Ed’s sake, that you (and a little bit me and others!) prove right! Maybe he should TELL his current docs to arrange for the 360-degree, SITTING UP scan.

Holley, how awful, and I do know how that must have felt, and for me, I just felt like my life was over, and couldn’t understand why.
One doc wrote that there is no “one diagnosis” that fits all her complaints..” Got rid of her as a PCP. She’s the one who ordered x’rays and MRI, but doesn’t “look at the films herself” – “just reads radiologist report.” That’s malpractice.

How is he now?
GL/FL ~ He is doing pretty darn good considering. He is in regular treatment to keep his upper cervical spine in alignment and also does physical therapy to help strengthen the muscles and tendons that hold the bones in place. His life is still in some disarray, but at least he knows he has help now when he needs it.
He still struggles with what the medical profession put him through and blaming him for what they didn’t understand. He is graduating soon from graduate school. One professional told him he should look for a vocational job. Another said he should be on SSDI.
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and he will have a good life. The lessons we all learned from this are invaluable. In addition to never giving up and to keep fighting, my son learned compassion and empathy at a young age. He was 18 when it all started. We both have learned to not judge others through our own set of experiences, but to listen and try to understand from their side of things.

NYGuy – not a doctor or chiropractor – but have generations of really well-trained MDs and nurses in my family – so I have listened and read a lot of stuff – and this does sound like a very real possibility!

Holly! I was amazed when reading your information. And YES, NYGuy54 – please take Holly’s advice – you have everything to gain and nothing to lose.
Why? Briefly – 20 yrs. ago, MVA – airbag saved my life, but damaged my cervical vertebrate. Ortho recomm. surgery then – but I had small children, no time. Fast forward 2016, tipping point point of severe pain going up the occipital area & around my jaw. Saw 3 neurologists!, pain mgmt, 2 PCP, MRI, x’rays – which showed “severe arthritis” & damaged vertebrate, “but no signal impairment” – I was deteriorating, no one had any answers, & I “knew” it had to be more than arthritis!!!
Finally, by the Grace of God, one of the docs recommended a neurosurgeon – who did surgery 9 hour neurosurgery 4/2017 – 5 anterior levels, 7 posterior. I woke up the next morning and the pain was gone. Within two weeks the absent L leg nerves (the neuro jerks said was due to age…) were back. Even now as I come upon the two year mark, it’s amazing the healing my brain has undergone.
I had had memory deficits, numbness, tingling, absent nerve conduction in leg, & other symptoms. But the pain felt like electric shocks – that’s what we all realize now – my spinal cord had been impinged as the vertebrate had malfused from the accident – literally pulling my neck over. The surgical diagnosis was “Cervical kyposis” the reality? – the damaged vertebrate were hitting my spinal cord. It was electric shocks I was feeling. Ultimately, the realization of what was wrong did not come until after the surgery & my immediate improvement. All those docs and their dismissiveness… Had become practically bedridden.
For years I had noted changes in memory, migraines (none before accident) numbness, tingling, absent nerve conduction in leg, & other symptoms. In 2016, my hubby and I thought my life was over. Literally, the only time that horrendous pain was gone was lying down. Why? Because there was no PRESSURE on my spinal cord!

I am stunned to read your story LP and so very happy to know you made it through. And you are so right about the lying down taking the pain away. My son would spend hours lying on an exercise mat for relief. No pressure on the nerves that way.
It seems pretty simple, but for whatever reason the medical profession doesn’t get it. Their scans are looking for breaks, fractures, masses, clots…but not the nerves. I could go on and on about the whole process we went through, but it forever changed how I feel about medical treatments.
Holley, thank you. It was a nightmare when the tipping point came. I had only seen a chiropractor (4) for care over the years, and even they didn’t make the call to say, “You need to see the neurosurgeon.” One of them said, “it was the worst neck he’d ever seen…” Now I’m not knocking chiropractors at all, because they know their stuff, but it’s important, ethically, to know when to send a patient on.
The worst part, Holley? I’m a RN, and could no more self-diagnose than anyone else. I’ve mentioned to NYGuy previously, that everything goes through the neck up to the brain and back. He’s got all kinds of nerves being affected by the trauma.

I’m not giving up. LP. Just adjusting. As you know, every day is a battle. I didn’t anticipate the changes in my vision and a further decline in my hearing. The headaches went away and then came back so something is triggering all this. I am pursuing Holley’s suggestion and am seeing a new neurologist

One thing I learned having seen the medical community up close over 4 decades through family and marriage, is that there is a wide range of skill and caring among practitioners.
Some are good and some you would not want to practice or operate on an enemy!
Get references, read the reviews online, find out where they trained, and when you visit a doctor or hospital for pre-tests, talk to nurses who care for their patients post surgery and find out how their patients progress!
Get advice from your GP or doctor/s who attend your club or synagogue.

Sorry I just saw your post, Ed. But glad Wheatie found it, and that helped me find it.
For starters, the prayer needs to come out big time here, and it will. But more than that, I want you to know that you can and SHOULD give us updates whenever you want – don’t feel like you can’t. You got some excellent advice this time, but even more importantly, it activates our prayer warriors and well-wishers, and that is key.
I thought I was going to be going onto disability a couple of times, but in both cases, medicine turned things around, so I am going to hope and pray that your case gets some major turnaround.
One question I have – have you altered your diet for neurological healing? For example:
– reduced or no alcohol or other neurological agents
– increased fish oils and dietary salmon
– avoid grapefruit which inactivates medicines
– plenty of electrolytes (gatorade, etc.)
– no exotic fruits or foods (many are neurotoxic)
Just a shot in the dark, but sometimes people can have surprising neurological healing even in their 60’s and 70’s if they figure out what is the one or two random things that are holding back healing
Please come here whenever you feel like it.

It’s hard to write because it’s getting harder to see small print. Plus it hurts to read for any length of time. It was exhausting to read and write all these comments.

Good points about victim status. Overall, it is generally not called an anti-semitic attack unless something specific was said to lead one to believe that. Personally, I have no problem with focusing on anti-Jewish (IMO, semitic is the wrong word) attacks considering the fact that the Jews have been persecuted, in one way or another, pretty much for their entire existence. Jews / Israel are ALWAYS on the targeted attack-first list. I am fairly certain no other ethnicity has experienced such targeted devastation on the scale of the Jews. Marica, I can’t see images any more–nothing. I used to be able to read newspaper headlines one letter at a time, and I miss colours, especially in nature and also being able to see to coordinate my clothes and enjoy flowers, and to see my family, though I never could really recognize their faces in a crowd. The questions become louder and more frequent so the Washington Post responded 2/4/2019 with a lovely article but no photos:
“Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Monday night made her first public appearance since undergoing cancer surgery in December, attending a celebration of her life presented in song.
The 85-year-old justice attended a production of “Notorious RBG in Song” at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington. The program about Ginsburg’s life in the law was created and performed by Ginsburg’s daughter-in-law, the soprano Patrice Michaels, and presented for high school students by the National Constitution Center.”
Also note: There was NO publicity found anywhere about the event before it happened even in local papers where the high school students being honored were from.or the National Museum of Women Calendar. Michaels also did not announce the justice’s presence.
So questions became louder and even more frequent and almost everyone asking just want proof of life because the silence is not normal… so NPR does their part with an equally lovely article today:
