Turning Point Friday
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,” — 1 Corinthians 15:3
For Christians, Good Friday is a crucial day of the year because it celebrates what we believe to be the most momentous weekend in the history of the world. Ever since Jesus died and was raised, Christians have proclaimed the cross and resurrection of Jesus to be the decisive turning point for all creation. Paul considered it to be “of first importance” that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and was raised to life on the third day, all in accordance with what God had promised all along in the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3).
On Good Friday we remember the day Jesus willingly suffered and died by crucifixion as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins (1 John 1:10). It is followed by Easter, the glorious celebration of the day Jesus was raised from the dead, heralding his victory over sin and death and pointing ahead to a future resurrection for all who are united to him by faith (Romans 6:5).
Still, why call the day of Jesus’ death “Good Friday” instead of “Bad Friday” or something similar? Some Christian traditions do take this approach: in German, for example, the day is called Karfreitag, or “Sorrowful Friday.” In English, in fact, the origin of the term “Good” is debated: some believe it developed from an older name, “God’s Friday.” Regardless of the origin, the name Good Friday is entirely appropriate because the suffering and death of Jesus, as terrible as it was, marked the dramatic culmination of God’s plan to save his people from their sins.
In order for the good news of the gospel to have meaning for us, we first have to understand the bad news of our condition as sinful people under condemnation. The good news of deliverance only makes sense once we see how we are enslaved. Another way of saying this is that it is important to understand and distinguish between law and gospel in Scripture. We need the law first to show us how hopeless our condition is; then the gospel of Jesus’ grace comes and brings us relief and salvation.
In the same way, Good Friday is “good” because as terrible as that day was, it had to happen for us to receive the joy of Easter. The wrath of God against sin had to be poured out on Jesus, the perfect sacrificial substitute, in order for forgiveness and salvation to be poured out to the nations. Without that awful day of suffering, sorrow, and shed blood at the cross, God could not be both “just and the justifier” of those who trust in Jesus (Romans 3:26). Paradoxically, the day that seemed to be the greatest triumph of evil was actually the deathblow in God’s gloriously good plan to redeem the world from bondage.
The cross is where we see the convergence of great suffering and God’s forgiveness. Psalms 85:10 sings of a day when “righteousness and peace” will “kiss each other.” The cross of Jesus is where that occurred, where God’s demands, his righteousness, coincided with his mercy. We receive divine forgiveness, mercy, and peace because Jesus willingly took our divine punishment, the result of God’s righteousness against sin. “For the joy set before him” (Hebrews 12:2) Jesus endured the cross on Good Friday, knowing it led to his resurrection, our salvation, and the beginning of God’s reign of righteousness and peace.
Good Friday marks the day when wrath and mercy met at the cross. That’s why Good Friday is so dark and so Good.

One time I was thinking about Jesus saying, “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” I know God couldn’t look on sin at that moment, but I was wondering what effect it would have had on the crowd listening. It is from Psalm 22, which describes a death on the cross!!! Written hundreds of years before!! I know, Wheatie. I can hardly bear to contemplate it. It is hard to imagine a love that big.
In his own way…our President has a similar love for us and even for the people who try tear us down.
Not that I am comparing Pres Trump to our Lord Jesus Christ.
But in some ways, there are some similarities.
The timing of this release of the Mueller Report has caused me to reflect on this, since it has happened during Holy Week.
The forces of darkness have been ‘crucifying’ PDJT with false charges.
He has withstood it and survived it.
He knew going into this that it could get brutal…and yet he took it on anyway, out of love.
I hope that this will be a Turning Point for our President, too, from this point going forward.
I hope no one thinks that I am trying to elevate PDJT to the same level as our Lord…because I am not.

I know exactly what you mean, Wheatie. Not that PDJT is Christ, but he has a very huge love for this country and for us. It is obvious, isn’t it? It is revealed by what he does and what he says.
And yes, this is a bit of a rebirth or renewal for him. I can’t recall his exact words but somewhere during the campaign he promised he’d stand for us, he’d take the attacks for us. And he has.
The only thing I can compare it to is the story of Christ and the cross. Obviously it isn’t the same thing or on the same level, but…
Christ’s model is a pattern for us – the Bible is filled with them. Bearing burdens is our lot, because we follow Truth, which is its own reward, but for which the world will punish us.
I am not good with words or typing out what I mean most of the time so when I read these comments and thoughts and prayers from all of you dear people it not only brings a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes, Iam reminded daily of how full of grace and mercy our heavenly father is toward us.it keeps me ever mindful of what Jesus did to save us all and that was the plan from the very beginning ! that he could love me ,so unlovable so much that he would lay down his life for me and every living being is so amazing its hard to fathom.
Every once in awhile a man comes along to stand in the gap for us, to take the slings and arrows for us, carry the weight of it all and do it willingly is proof of Gods love and grace towards us in this evil time. President Trump has been chosen of God to stand in the gap and show the evil behind veil. I’m so glad you said what you did, Wheatie, about the significance of PDJT. I had some similar thoughts, but was afraid people might think we’re elevating POTUS to the Lord’s level. Absolutely not. But what I do believe is that the Lord sent DJT to us in our time of need, to aid us in our Great Awakening, Our Renewal.
Just as with George Washington and the Hand of Divine Providence upon him, without which, there would be no America, I believe that Divine Providence sent DJT. Not a prophet as in Scripture, but an instrument God is using.
I have a firm belief that the Hand of God is upon Donald J Trump.
In fact, DJT, likely has spent his entire lifetime, hearing the Lord’s voice, and waited upon Him for when the time was right. The Lord chooses His warriors – nothing else explains DJT’s journey…

Jesus did have some help.
I tend to find that, about the BIG STUFF (e.g., John 3:16), it’s SO big that it’s hard for me to get emotional in a human way. It’s just overpowering. It’s affecting, but the emotions are more like shock and awe. The scale is simply too big.
For me, it’s the smaller aspects, stray facts, little historical details (which sometimes have to be explained in a sermon) which are personally affecting and THEN communicate the big stuff in an emotional way.
It’s like – what He did for humanity – it just doesn’t compute. It’s too huge. But what He did for some nameless thief who spoke the truth of his own guilt and Christ’s innocence – THAT is really affecting.

We live in the “go girrrrl” culture. Men, who are supposed to have higher testosterone than women, are instead breathing a cloud of estrogen in every sector of their lives except perhaps in their own homes since they can’t find a decent woman to marry – or worse, their wives have higher testosterone than they do. I was just OT and SD has a post up about the mysterious Robert Mueller Oval Office meeting with RR. SD has a theory about RR leaving his cell phone behind in the Oval and McCabe wrote about this in his book. I gather SD believes this was Mueller electronically eavesdropping on the President.
It was interesting to read. I don’t know what I think about it other than to be puzzled about the cell phone. Surely, SURELY the WH has better security protocols in place? How could it possibly be allowed for someone to bring a cell phone into the Oval and leave it there? I am bewildered by that. I would hope we’d have crack cyber security folks protecting PDJT.

I didn’t read the article or the book, so take this for what it’s worth. I don’t believe the theory. SD has come up with other theories — one of them about Hillary’s wandering eye — that have proven false. That one was disproved by an eye specialist who politely posted facts, only to have his posts deleted. (I know this because I responded to some of his posts with interest, and then when I went back to check, his posts and mine were gone.)
Another idea that proved untrue was that Kellyanne Conway did not have Trump’s best interests at heart.
The desire to be the one who comes up with THE answer can overcome judgment sometimes. Again, just my opinion.
SD could benefit by working on the open acceptance of being wrong, as the fastest way to being right.
SD needs to admit he is HUMAN and therefore can be WRONG. As a Catholic you would think he would understand that concept and also the concept of FORGIVENESS.
It’s a basic engineering principle: Try a solution. If it doesn’t work, fail fast. Try something else. Don’t become emotionally attached to a solution b/c even an elegant answer may turn out to be the wrong one. What matters is achieving the objective not if you get glory. Every idea, included discarded ideas, contribute to the final success.

In the book “Soul Of a New Machine,” by Tracy Kidder, there is an engineer (a brilliant engineer, a group who are espectially prone to this problem) who is working on the ALU, trying to get it perfect while fitting it on just one board (this was in the 1970s, long before even VLSI). Two conflicting goals that all but destroyed him and his career. He’d been a brilliant and successful engineer to that point, but never presented with such constraints.
[The book is about the development of the DG MV1000, and the project and people struggling mightily to get it out the door. Well worth reading, both from an engineering and project management perspective. Not to mention human interest and psychology perspective. Another book of Kidder’s, “House” is about building a custom house in New England. Equally perceptive, and informative. /geek mode ]

I just read it now. I suspect that Mueller’s cell phone was basically set up as an FBI listening device. At that point, Mueller was a retiree – correct? He’s like any potential witness being talked into wearing a wire. McCabe basically had him drop his phone there.
Rod and McCabe DID agree to “wire up” a meeting with Trump – and they did it with that bogus Mueller meeting.
NOW – here is a layer of truth beyond whatever McCabe told Radium Rod and Mueller. McCabe was probably looking for something MORE than just whatever he told Rod and Mueller he was looking for. He was looking for information about how much the White Hats knew – how much the Military knew – how much Trump knew. That phone was a PROBE into the White House – into the NSA – into a lot of things – for McCABE’S protection, as well as Hillary’s.
Anything done to that phone would be monitored, and would tell them how much Trump knew or didn’t know about Mueller.
SO – letting Mueller’s phone sit there untouched was likely a solid strategy.

Again, I am sure that office was swept for bugs on a routine basis. However given the number of people allowed into that office, I would certainly consider it ‘Bugged’

Based on my understanding of these tricky people, there were likely multiple goals, pulling this way and that in conversation, trying to “trip up” POTUS. I agree that they clearly must not have gotten any of the things they wanted. A CONFIRMATION of the obvious is that Mueller left the phone. Normally, in a “wear a wire” situation, somebody familiar with the DESIRED THEORY OF THE CASE (not the reality – the theory – important distinction) is listening and will know if they “got enough”. The fact that the phone was LEFT means they did not elicit enough, and likely instructed Mueller to drop the phone using some prearranged signal like a text message or a call. OR the anticipated getting nothing from the beginning and asked him to leave the phone. It would be VERY INTERESTING to see if this was his “normal” phone or some kind of investigative substitute. Yeah…he wasn’t very loud about it…if I remember correctly he made some comments about Donald Trump not having the temperament to be president…which isn’t that big of a deal especially since he’s been solid MAGA ever since, even writing a very pro-Trump book since then…but I remember being disappointed at the time. I enjoyed his book on the Peloponnesian War and always try to read his articles when I can.

My Ex-husband was an artillery officer and a physicist. They were just starting to use computers for ‘bracketing’ so I heard a lot about using the old pen and paper calculations for bracketing vs using the new computer method which at the time STUNK!

The way most car GPSs work is they show you maybe a four block radius and they’re designed to give you verbal directions to your destination.
When I have a GPS, I try to use it like a road map. I often (especially on inter-city trips) want to see ten miles around me; I especially want to “look ahead” for traffic jams. The stupid app on my phone fights me constantly, trying to zoom in to a view that will simply show the next hundred yards of an interstate–all that does is show you which compass direction the road runs.
I wouldn’t mind a moving map unit–if it would make it easy to zoom in and out, which so far, none have. That’s the sort of thing that GPS units for pilots would do–of course, those might be less interested in showing roads.

I’m not a physicist nor am I an expert on fires. This person brings up some interesting points about the Notre Dame fire. Any thoughts? Is she off base here in regards to the smoke and the rapid acceleration? I would love to here from someone versed in the physics and science behind a burning fire at some point. I admit, I haven’t paid super close attention to Assange and Seth Rich. But I get the general idea. Reading that Mueller came to this conclusion was troubling to me. I haven’t read the report. Not knowing what they have based their conclusions on I am doubtful.
I also, try as hard as I might, cannot for the life of me see PDJT saying, “Woe is me, my life is over” or whatever it was when he learned a SC had been named. I can imagine him being angry, even worried, but the language and reaction didn’t ring true to me.
So, I just have to wonder about the truth or accuracy of the Mueller Report, at least in places.

I read something about this when Barr was under consideration for nomination, and the author told about how long it would have taken Barr to write the letter and lay out his legal thesis and at the kind of money Barr was making in billable hours the provided an estimate of the amount of money it would have cost Barr to write the document. It was thousands of dollars.
And the point was made that no one would do that to send an unsolicited communication to the DOJ unless they were following closely and felt it was urgent the DOJ get some good advice.
It gave me hope when I read it that Barr was a patriot. After what we have seen of him, he sure does look like a patriot!!!

On the surface, IMHO, prison barges, grossly inefficient. Doesn’t mean they would use prison barges if the urgency to house schmucks outside of US territory. Sort of like GITMO, Cuban soil.
Barges are moved by ocean going tugs. Slow and steady. From CA area, they’d go south, through Panama Canal and on to GITMO. The barge would not be occupied while underway. They need to be positioned where they’ll be used.
FWIW, the Navy has “berthing barges” to house sailors while their ship is under going significant maintenance / overhaul and is uninhabitable. Shore billeting / housing would be a first option. Berthing barges a pain to live on…inconvenient is an understatement.

Linda, IMO the whole thing was done in order to give the Deep State time to destroy President Trump by turning his supporters against him or to assassinate him.
