Try an antenna. $30. Use my old DirectTV bracket to mount the antenna on the house eave. Works well for me. Search on the Internet for what direction to orient the antenna. NOTHING like the days of rabbit ears:-)
Initially used in Ridgecrest, CA / Mojave Desert. Fifteen channels or so.
Now Dayton, Northern NV. Again fifteen + channels.
Most channels clear as a bell. Most, if not all HD. Yea HD. I think law says they must broadcast HD.
Lots of old shows. Lots of Westerns.
Between the antenna and Internet, I get everything I need.
No endless flipping channels…thinking…dang….nothing good on. Flip fifteen channels and conclude, nothing on;-)
Best of all, NO monthly cable, direct, Dish, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon bills;-)

I used to have netflix but cut it long ago (thank goodness). I have an antenna but almost never used it. I just kind of started just going to my library and renting the DVDs. I know they are going to by them anyway and my taxes pay for the library.

– we’re more “regular folks” than a normal think tank
– we’re almost* completely untainted by fame and fortune
– we’re not here for the money
– we’re unconstrained by any boards or other “pinchable” assets
– we’re not subject to media influence
– we’re more or less anonymous, or at least freer to speak than most
‘ we’re a lot more egalitarian in our organization and structure
– even the platform – posts versus comments – is ALMOST THE SAME

Several days ago, a close friend was contacted by her Insurance Co.,with whom she has had auto and home insurance for decades, together with a Credit card.
They told her that they were authorized and compelled to gather personal financial information per the “New Patriot Act”. The first question they asked was what her household income is.
After a predictable back-and-forth, in which she requested to opt out, she was told folks cannot opt out.
She ended the conversation.
The next morning she called her insurance company to report this scam, and was told this is not a scam.
After a lengthy conversation re how her non-compliance would affect her long-standing policies, and questions about options, etc., she stated she would have to think ab this.
Really?
Her last name starts with “A”, so we are thinking this event is in it’s initial stages of implementation.
I would Really Appreciate any comments on/responses to this eerie event.
And if I may, could you address them to me in your comments, so the notification will be triggered?

I will not go into detail, but I have very recently been on the receiving end of a similar bizarre interaction with corporate America.
I have an insurance policy up for renewal this month and decided to shop around. I was talking to insurance companies as recently as last week. I did not encounter any unexpected problems or anything like you described in your comment. I’d assume if there was some new regulation like this that they would try to hammer it out now before the policy renews. Tell your friend to start shopping around.
Also, I just re-read your post and noticed the “together with a Credit card” part. I wonder if it’s the credit card that’s causing the issue (as opposed to just plain old insurance).

I mentioned the credit card, bc the Insurance Co. said this was part of tracking irregularities in credit/banking activity…y’know, for terrorists activity algorithms. And my friend had put 12K on card, and then pd it off the same week…was concerned, for obvious reasons.
Had an almost similar instance with one of my long standing banks that also does my car insurance. I received a call that that I needed to fill out a W9 form for tax certification. Answers only required yes’s and no’s, with no other disclosures like monies earned. Felt uncomfortable with it and called the bank and reported it thinking it was also a scam but they said I was required to send the information to them. However I’d never been asked for that information before and neither of my other two banks have yet to ask for that information. I thought it all rather strange, especially since the IRS has that information anyways.

Being the interaction initriated by a call from Insurance company. I’d end the converastion and call them on a number I already have. Not a number from the “cold caller”.
Had a recent query from USAA to complete a W-9. Notified by email. Thought it weird. Used my regular link to access USAA. W-9 required. Update I think they said. Non invasive. Yes, No… No income questions. I commonly low ball income questions when they are required. Generally not concerned with credit card limits. Credit cards work for me and balances paid off every month.
NFCU has not pinged me on the W-9.
As Patriot Act invoked, more spying of some sort on innocent citizens. Nothing good can come of it.

I can think of an alternative explanation that would be plausible–that the reflector is on an unmanned spacecraft that we sent there in lieu of astronauts. Technically, that’s a much easier thing to do. So if you don’t believe in a flat earth, but DO believe Apollo was a fraud, you could argue this, and at least I wouldn’t be disgusted with your utter ignorance of science, even though I do believe we went there. It’s something a deceptive NASA could have done, given the universe is the way it is, if they were to realize, “Hey, guys, we just can’t do this.”
With respect to flat earth, though, it’s a non-starter. If flat earth is true, we could never have put any spacecraft into orbit, much less onto the moon. Our understanding of physics would be just totally wrong.

As a tease, I first heard about just how political, amoral and ethically-challenged Covington and Burling was in 1981-82 when I was a law clerk for the chief judge of the USDC in Boston. One of our co-clerks, a Georgetown superstar, decided to take a job with C&B. Our judge was disappointed for several reasons but one of them was C&B. At the time I was not sure why as she was going into the tax department. Now I realize why. The entire law firm has been an arm of the deep state, global and political corrupticons for the last 150 years. In her case, tax practice was the means to accomplishing either back door deals that got POLITICIANS (see Nancy et als.) rich or getting corrupt politicians out of trouble. How Flynn ended up with these charlatans will be subject to further discussion from a legal landscape perspective.

That statement may seem counterintuitive to some, given my full-throated defense of moderate Muslims. I think those moderate Muslims are terribly misled but…..until Islam can be banned (which, unfortunately, I don’t believe will ever happen), we must deal with it and, somehow……some way…..find a way to tell the difference. But I just don’t know what method would serve the purpose of identifying moderate vs. radical.
I’ll give Mohammed a lot of credit for brains. He had seen what had happened to other religions, and did what he could to “lock down” Islam, to make sure it could NEVER change. The whole structure of sharia law is intended to ensure that it can never be reformed from within. If a judge gives too lenient a sentence, for instance–as one could imagine another system would do as it’s starting to weaken its grip–he himself can be punished.
Did he intentionally set up an unreconcilable dichotomy in which the Mecca writings are contradicted by the Medina writings creating cognitive dissonance and mental conflict in the minds of his followers?
Did he intend to leave conflict between the tribes and sects that can never end?
Did he intend to demean women and allow the abuse and exploitation of children?
In the first case, the discrepancy between Mecca and Medina is “covered.” You go with the more recent one, it abrogates the previous one. Scholars of the Koran have long ago determined what order the suras were written in, (not in the order they appear in the Koran), so if there appears to be a conflict, the one higher up on their list gets priority.
It allows them to quote the warm-fuzzy Mecca versus to outsiders and look like a warmhearted, tolerant religion, while in their minds they’re thinking “that’s an abrogated verse.”
Supposedly, women in Arabia were treated *even worse* before Mohammed, so he’s counted as a great liberator for directing it be cut back. Today, of course, we see it as going the wrong way.

Yes, Clinton and Ginsberg score higher than Ivanka but that is not the point. The point is the story is written from an international perspective because that feeds the narrative!
Another Important point is that while she is #1 she only rates 15% – far from a majority so yes, #1 but far from hugely popular or a country wide agreed upon talking point!

You point out a perfect example of where propagandists use a percentage to imply worthiness, ie. Michelle only garnered 15% of the total vote – and since it was the highest percentage, they gave her the #1 slot.
Figured the poll had to be tightly controlled as regards sourcing. What matters is how this country feels.
BTW, I believe that if Melania was reported on and her photos posted she’d beat all the other women. Michelle’s are the main ones they print, posted at the supermarket checkout, airbrushed to death, etc. etc.

Plenty of joking, fun flirting going on between friends on Marcia’s blog that demonstrates PHC is as sharp, clever and humorous as ever. Funny pictures, music, keeping PHC company and enjoying friendships as well as occasional politics.
I am not in the conversations but I am a quiet visitor in the corner, checking in at least 1x, usually 2x or 3x a day, praying for him, his family and his caregivers (emotional, mentally, spiritual and physical care givers).
When I check in a Marica’s, I am glad to see he is being both entertained and comforted in the newest sapling treehouse in the online MAGA forrest (they don’t divide us – they multiply us!) while being well cared for and visited as well as cooked for by family in the “real” world.
This is not a “ground report” as I am not there in person (obviously) but this is my impression and understanding from “knowing” PHC in the treehouse community, on his short lived but infamous and memorable blog and now quietly watching from the corner of the room as the “party”, fun, entertainment and companionship continue on Merica’s blog.

You did a VERY Hard but Correct thing, the right thing, the actions of integrity and compassion –>> esp. considering her own wishes informed what you did. Good Gracious – it is so difficult to let go and adjust to walking the rest of our earthly life without our Moms or other relatives and friends to whom we are close and with whom we have journeyed through life together.
Death has lost its finality but we still miss them during the years of separation.

I have been told that the ultimate healer is death. We think we have so much control in life but we really do not.

My question is what do those districts have in the way of a bench in the state houses? State rep, then senate (maybe) before a jump to a statewide job where the name recognition is acquired and then on to the congressional seats is usually the way it happens when there isn’t a wave year like 2010. My district is more of an inherited fiefdom, and there are a few like that, but the next family member in line for this specific seat is in the state house right now. An old family friend’s seat flipped while being held for his son who was in the statehouse being groomed. I’m not kidding. I know it’s frustrating when there aren’t conservative candidates surfacing in the run, but they may not be there.
There’s other issues like conservatives tend to not be professional politicians, and the parties are going to back the assets they know, not someone who decides to run because they think they can help change the system. Open primaries allow the opposing party to flood the primary vote with votes for the weak candidate. That’s how Claire McCaskill ended up in the Senate the second time around (the first was on the coattails of stem cell research in a non-presidential year). Todd Akin was not the best of the lot, and the open primary gave the Democrats open season to put him up against her. And then there is the matter of conservatives who are privacy conscious not wanting their lives to be an open book. Every detail of life is examined when a conservative runs for office. The lifestyle of politics is not conducive to family life for young parents, either.
There’s a lot to consider. It’s frustrating, but at the moment, if the bench hasn’t been groomed, there isn’t much that can be done other than pray.
Your situation is similar to quite a few other states. For example, Scott Taylor, who lost his 1-term seat to a Dem in 2018, could have had a chance to take it back in 2020 – we’re a competitive district, but no, his ego always gets in the way, and he decided to take on Mark Warner – the Dem Senator up in 2020 (Virginia). Taylor isn’t well-liked among the GOP, this isn’t going to help in the statewide race.
We lost quite a few of deep bench when they took out our Governor Bob McDonnell, one term limited, but destroyed forever in politics after Obama sent in the Fed goons. We’ve lost several others. Couldn’t even tell you a good conservative name with name recognition in this state. Remember, Virginia is the state that has Dems in the top 3 offices and weathered racism charges and sexual assault charges. Democrats NEVER quit. Our side does. Well, except for DJT. 🙂

Our heat exchanger died several years ago. We make due with space heaters in winter and a couple room A/C in summer for the two rooms we mostly use. Otherwise we cool the house with a windo fan at night and close the house up during the day (Biggest problem is the damp ==> Mold)
Out trucks including my blk pkup have not had A/C working for years.
You get used to it. I even did the cross country from Atlanta GA to LA in a jeep with no A/c packed with five cavers one summer. The back (no seats) was so blasted hot we had to unroll the sleeping bag so we did not burn ourselves on the metal.
Most of Europe does not have air-conditioning. My brother was stressed a month ago because it was 40 C

St Louis can get over 100F in summer and one time I remember it was colder than Alaska. When I moved here I thought why are people complaining but soon my body adjusted and now I think 85-90 is hot.
I can take heat and cold easily my husband has a hard time when it is hot out.

My kids began school 45 years ago I made a bag lunch for all of them. One day a week they got to eat in school because that is all the money I could spare. I turned every penny around to make ends meet. Actually I took pride in feeding a family of 5 on $25 a week. I will not go into all details but my kids were never lacking on food and I rather would have died then rely on other people to feed my kids. They were my responsibility.
If people feel comfortable with handouts for their kids more power to them. I see what people buy and what their values are so called poor.
I have known people in the country who had very little they took care of their kids they had spotless homes were happy God fearing people . I then see people who have more are slobs squander their money on all kind of stuff and everyone feels sorry for them.
Maybe I sound hard but not really some people never learned how to manage.
I am the first one to help a truly person out who has fallen on hard times but I dislike moochers.
I used to run a pantry and saw everything.
Should kids be taken away no maybe parents need to go and be educated how to feed their kids and put them first before cigarets , booze, dying the hair and fake fingernails and make up.
No, you do not sound hard – however – everyone is not as conscientious as you are – thrifty and good at budgeting – growing up – bag lunches were it – we could not afford to eat at school – sometimes, the poor eat at school – because that is their only meal each day – uneducated parents or other problems at home – there are slackers, too – but, most of them would pay if they could – an emergency at home might require kids to eat at school – and leave them unprepared to pay – there are all sorts of family circumstances as you have pointed out – however – I wonder why they do not sell a lunch package at the beginning of school – pre-paid – then, they could avoid the delinquency – I just think it is sad – they want to remove children from the home for such a stupid reason – I see it as an excuse to deprive parents – and/or refuse to help them – if they need it – a harsh punishment – imho

Dan Bongino was talking about this on his podcast yesterday. I’m not sure whether it’s the same university, but they were banning singular pronouns (he, she, her, him) in favor of the plural (they, them) because those are gender neutral. The woman who was announcing the change broke her own rule when she referred to someone as “she.” So if you’re talking a about a female classmate, for example, you have to say “They are in my class” or “I am going to study with them after class” when you are talking about only one person. What they are doing is destroying the clarity of the language. This is not only destructive, but dangerous. Can’t wait for linguistics professors to weigh in.
It’s so utterliy stupid that it won’t last. Beyond that, I (and millions of others) won’t comply. They are making complete fools of themselves.

“13 Philadelphia Police Officers To Be Fired Over Racist, Offensive Facebook Posts, Commissioner Says
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Over a dozen Philadelphia police officers will be fired for their racist and offensive social media posts, officials announced on Thursday. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross says 13 officers, including a sergeant, will be suspended for 30 days with intent to dismiss.
Seventy-two officers were initially placed on administrative leave on June 19 after Plain View Project, a watchdog group, discovered the controversial posts of police officers who work in Philadelphia and in other cities around the country.”

Wonder if they looked at ALL of the officers’ Facebook posts or only one skin color. Hate to be so cynical, but unfortunately it’s where we are right now. And, there needs to be clarification of what is “racist” and if that is applied equally.

“Some of the posts showed officers wanting to ram people with Obama bumper stickers and others calling those in the Black Lives Matter movement “racist pieces of [expletive].” There were also anti-Islamic posts and others that referred to African Americans as thugs and encouraged police brutality.”
It’s a shame Philadelphia is no longer in The United States of America and not subject to The Bill of Rights and U.S. Constitution. I didn’t realize they had seceded from the Union. I guess MSM just didn’t want to report it.

I need to read the rest of it, but this sentence stopped me cold.

Facebook and Google are the Anheuser-Busch of the big tech world. They may not be complete monopolies, but they do have far more in the way of market share than anyone else.
“And while it may seem like today’s tech companies will last forever, the lesson of history is clear: AOL, Netscape, LiveJournal, Myspace, and so many other tech companies of the past seemed unbeatable at their heights, only to be taken down by new competitors.”
And that doesn’t touch all the services Google owns that were developed individually, and were bought.
The trouble is, once intelligence agencies have their hooks deeply into big tech players, they DON’T undergo natural turnover.

My best guess is that he is living in the libertarian dream world where companies left to themselves will practice an ethic of do no harm. The facts on the ground, as well as prior history (the era of yellow journalism) show this to be completely wrong in practice. Saying “the internet doesn’t need regulation” is not the same saying “tech giants are abusing their power to swing elections in repeated, verifiable, documented ways, acting as publishers while enjoying the legal benefits of being a platform, and need to be reigned in.” The leftists that run these companies do not respect the libertarian ethos.
Modern libertarianism has proven empirically to be the perfect perfect to kill its own good.
Yeah it’s hardly any wonder they wanted to pair it with conservatism.

A ‘noose’ found last month at the University of Michigan Medical School turns out to have been a practice knot used in fishing after an employee came forward to ‘clear the air,’ according to MLive.
“An investigation by UM’s Division of Public Safety and Security concluded the spool rope used for medical procedures was being used by a person on a break to practice tying a “Uni Knot,” which is a type of knot used for fishing. After the spool was returned to the storage area, the knot was still in place and discovered the following day by an employee. -MLive”
The ‘noose’ was fashioned out of a rope typically used for traction following surgical procedures, according to DPSS Director of Strategic Communications Heather Young, who noted that the loose end of the rope was tied in the knot while still connected to the spool.”

Sheriff’s deputies found him next to the Tilt-a-Whirl, his favorite ride, the station reported.
“He was reunited with Dad,” the sheriff’s office said, “who promptly suspended his son’s license by removing the battery from it.”
