So far we’ve managed to survive the first round of the Great Global Cooling, despite driving hours into strong uncoming winds as the Texas plains suffer an incredible cold snap, with early October temperatures predicted to dip even below the 90s… good news I’m back and have Wifi and cell signal again.
Meanwhile I enjoyed a weekend with conversation around such topics as the corn and soybean yields this year, implications for livestock and geopolitics…
As bad as low corn yields are, if the price of corn goes up high enough it will create conditions that could offset the subsidies enough that we could look at phasing them out, especially if a long term trading partner were to start buying massive amounts of our corn in addition to soybeans…
But right now we’re so busy burning corn up in engines that we’re importing corn from Brazil!
Not a good long term situation!
But anyway, even if I am a little late to the party… here’s some good info…

^^^ Interesting crop report. Surprising, until I recognize I am not dialed into crop yields. Seems as though “bumper” crops, even normal yield crops will be at least a few years away.
Weather comments not surprising. Think Northern NV has been cooler this entire year. Didn’t check the official numbers.
That may well be the case, but less corn planted in the river deltas means the land will yield longer. It would be nice if some of it can return to grazing grasses for livestock. It would be healthier for everyone.
Hey, I’m all for changing the economics of our corn crop and decoupling it from extra-market forces, which is the real problem.
Corn prices have been artificially low and suppressed for so long that every market signal is skewed. So-called “biofuels” wouldn’t even be thinkable if the prices were in line with reality.

The church has been lulled to sleep by many coordinated cultural forces.
The Great Awakening, the historical one, predated the American Revolution and reinvigorated a generation of Christians across all the American Colonial denominations.
In turn the Great Awakening and the church led the way in the American Revolution. If it had not been for the work of the churches keeping the moral issues in stark relief, there would not have been an American Revolution.
Also telling is that the Abolition movement really picked up steam after the American Revolution. It was a multi-generational effort.
There are many who see this kind of spiritual power at play and fear it. They find many creative ways to suppress it, more than I can outline in a single comment…
The Johnson amendment being one of the more obvious ones – a nefarious method of undermining churches by threatening them where it hurts, in the pocketbook. Mostly just fear and intimidation, but it works, far too well…
Many pastors and churches try to avoid being “political” or “divisive” – so they have shirked and abandoned their calling to be the moral conscience of society. Few openly preach about pro-life issues clearly, even though those messages would be well received. Instead they’re feeding a pablum of “helping their foreigner in their midst” while they neglect the weighty issues of Biblical justice.
Another problem is the belief that “politics” is worldly and sinful, and that the church should avoid engaging it to focus instead on the “spiritual”. This framework is an alien neo-platonism infecting the church that leads the church away from her active gospel calling. Christ came into the world and got his hands dirty, something many churches have forgotten.
And of course, many churches and elders and pastors too often see their job as keeping the church from rocking the boat too much. Keep the numbers up, keep the donors happy, keep the money coming in. Avoid anything remotely controversial. Aim for mediocre growth, don’t try to evangelize or disciple beyond a basic minimal effort. Anyone that is more spiritually engaged or has ministry success is seen as a troublemaker and their mission is to neuter their ministry and efforts. They pat themselves on the back for protecting the church even while they engage in acts of betrayal against their own members…
Taylor posits that the 501C3 has put churches in bed with government.
A lot of people believe that actually, and there’s an entire movement of underground churches that aren’t registered with the IRS.
I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but money and real estate cause a lot of odd problems in churches. Many big donors won’t donate unless they can get a tax break.

Underground as is not tax registered entities and with no real estate holdings. Most of these churches are small and organized as house churches. Think along the lines of being “off-grid” and you get the idea.

I guess I have a lot of catching up to do. Just got back from a 3 week road trip of the good ole United States of America. My Lady and I put over 11,000 miles on a Toyota RAV 4…I think Dollar is rethinking their unlimited mileage policy right about now. 😁
We started at JFK…visited family in the Catskills…on 16 September, celebrated our 20 years together at Niagara Falls in a suite and jacuzzi with a direct view of the upper rapids. That was just the beginning
Back to the Bronx with my Brother to watch the Yankees beat up on the Angels. Dropped my Brother off and picked up my Wife and her new diamond ring and finally started the actual road trip.
First stop Denver to visit my Daughters and Grandchildren…which included a trip to Pike’s Peak. From there onto Yellowstone…had no idea how big the park is. Of course, a real road trip means staying also in motels…the Big Bear Motel in Cody Wyoming is a great value…book the little cabins is a secret tip!
I will have to stop here I have arrived at work on the strassenbahn. To be continued…

After watching this…I now think that the ‘crazed shooter’ who fired a shot into James Alifanti’s Comet Pizza, was an MK victim.

It’s the voice of some of these videos that gets to me. I truly hate the mechanical voices. I want transcripts and am not willing to listen to a 20-30-1 or 2 hour monologue.
Maybe it’s my old age or the fact that I’m a visual person, trained in art, a fairly slow learner and prefer writing emails to phone conversations and phone tag. I like the written record of emails and the ability to take time to consider a response.
with our satellite internet, I can only watch videos during our “free time” which ends at 8 am…and streaming is expensive and ridiculous, so most of the time I prefer transcripts as well.
I have DSL which is my one splurge. Right now, we don’t want/need cable sports in our household. We get all news/entertainment from internet.
…and I don’t have a smart phone to pay for…. have a 17 year old Nokia.
I’ve got a 13 year old flip phone…lol…nothing else works out here…even with all the “new technology” the newer smart phones don’t receive like our old phones…
That and they needed to get rid of a computer full of incriminating evidence. Never let a crisis go to waste!

I went to Googlemaps and you can actually see it! Zoom right on it and everything. What a trip. And a way better view of the place. There is a large star-shaped building in top right of the photo above that is not very visible here, but it is on Maps. That is a prison, a big one. The star shape allows for the guard stations in the center to see the hallways of cells in all directions.
I can’t say for sure who all will be going there, but I can say the “vacancy” sign is flashing at Hotel Gitmo!

Kiddo had an assembly at school where a cow and her calf were brought in to teach about dairy farms. Very clean animals. He was allowed to pet the calf. By the time I pucked him up he had a rash with blisters on his n eck and forehead. In the am on his nose and a couple fingers.
What would be used on the calf that could cause that immediate allergic reaction?
Rash/blisters still not gone a few days later but not more severe.

Wictor makes a great point (one of many) which is never made: the Demokkkrats and their spokesmen ALL look like they are out of central casting for the many varieties of unlikable/despicable/evil people.
Even the “glamorous” Hollywood people look like drunks or lunatics.
Every time I see Schiffty, he radiates dishonesty and idiotic cunning, and part of that is his face out of central casting which has been asked to provide someone with an untrusty look.
I believe all the radical Dems in Minnesota succeeded in doing was call MORE attention to the great rally POTUS has planned at the Target Center Thursday night. 🙂
