Science Alert’s headline reads “Divers Discover a Magical Bubbling Underwater Spring on The Ocean Floor.”
Really? Magical Bubbling Underwater Spring? I don’t know much about Science Alert, so I don’t know whether they’re trying to downplay this finding or not.
However, a press release from the University of Texas used a much more honest headline: “Deep Diving Scientists Discover Bubbling CO2 Hotspot.”
The amazing bubbling location, which geoscientist Bayani Cardenas captured on video, is not a climate change nightmare. It is linked to a nearby volcano that vents out the gases through cracks in the ocean floor, and has probably been doing so for decades or even millennia.
When Cardenas, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin Jackson School of Geosciences, went diving off the coastline of the Calumpan Peninsula in the Philippines, he and his coauthors found the ocean floor bubbling like champagne, pumping out vast amounts of carbon dioxide.
They dove about 60 meters (200 feet) down in “Soda Springs”, a high CO2 hotspot, where they measured CO2 concentrations from 60,000 ppm to as high as 95,000 ppm, more than 200 times the concentration of manmade CO2 in the atmosphere. The scientists traced the CO2 back to cracks in the ocean floor venting gasses from an underwater volcano.
The CO2 levels fall quickly away from the seeps as the gas is diluted in the ocean, but the gas still creates an elevated CO2 environment along the rest of the coastline of the Calumpan Peninsula, with levels in the 400 to 600 ppm range.
These high CO2 environments are actually close to thriving reefs, said Cardenas. “How does it work?”
Let me say it again: More than 200 times the concentration of manmade CO2 in the atmosphere (just over 400 ppm) … and we’re worried about the puny amount that humans emit?
And when your remember that there are more than three million underwater volcanoes, and that they could all be pumping out similar amounts of CO2, well, you get my drift…

The paper Can we predict the duration of an interglacial? agrees and gives the calculated solar insolation values @ 65N on June 22 for several glacial inceptions. The current solar insolation sits in the middle of that cluster.

Human blood must contain 5% CO2 or you suffer from hypo/hypercapnia. Medical Oxygen (the green bottle stuff) must contain 5% CO2, which is 130 TIMES the atmospheric level or you cannot balance your blood pH. CO2, in levels below 80,000 PPM, is NOT a toxin.
The IPCC actually said in the Science Report in TAR:
“In climate research and modeling, we should recognize that we are dealing with a coupled non-linear chaotic system, and therefore that the long-term prediction of future climate states is not possible.’ – I 2001 section 4.2.2.2 page 774

Actually, you have a point there. The question is, even if one supports gay marriage, decriminalization, etc. as legal principles, does doing so as an identity group help the Republican cause? Almost certainly not, if it furthers identity politics.

Back in the Tea Party days there were a lot of fresh new faces working to become involved in the GOP party apparatus. As this influx was growing there were platform fights at the various district meetings. An inordinate amount of time and attention was burned up because certain parties were opposed to certain language in the platform that at the time was widely supported against redefining marriage. I saw one meeting where what should have been 90 minutes tops spread into a four and a half hour hot mess with all kinds of parliamentary problems. It was very discouraging across the board, lots of the new tea party attendees were disgusted. Many gave up, others kept fighting, going to the state convention, only to watch the social conservative for the state party chair get defeated to a guy who wanted only pure economic issues. Well, he was effective with the party for economic issues, and he did balance the party’s budget and get the party debt paid off. But the net effect was the Tea Party voices were squelched at precisely the time of peak Tea Party.
What you describe as a waste of time is what I describe as a refusal to allow moderates and Libertarians to pollute the nascent tea party. I don’t think any such oral fights are unnecessary. There are a bunch of “Christian” churches that thought getting along was a good thing.
Now, those churches are a stain upon our society equal to Sodom & Gomorrah. The tea parties wanted to be a refuge from the overt sins of the world, despite the driving force being excess taxes and govt over-reach.
I’d rather avoid getting sick than get cured once I am sick, if I had a choice. Sometimes, one has to fight for the freedom to say principles matter. IMO, it is not a waste of time to fight such a battle. It is sad that some people think they have a duty to infect differing-thinking groups with their bullshit instead of forming their own groups.

Thats what I thought. Akitas are never to be left alone with children and must be trained. Theres an akita that is VERY VERY well bred and trained I see at walmart with his owner. Long hair and hes at least 130 lbs, he is HUGE but gentle. Always well behaved and is a therapy dog for his elderly owner.

I’ve seen this trope over and over for at least fifteen years – I even posted about it over a decade ago and made “The Yurica Report” (no longer online) mad at me.
* It’s hard to believe that a million woman marchers wearing pink you-know-what hats are really offended by a Trump video tape but aren’t bothered at all that “50 Shades” sold 80 million copies in the U.S.
* Says “I was raised a child of the Christian right. I know what they believe because the tenets of their faith are mine too.” I’m sorry that this person was traumatized by their childhood, and I hope that they are able to recover. But seriously, what this person describes is pretty doggon alien, like it beamed down from the mothership.
* “Before the Civil War, Christian abolitionists fought not just for the end of slavery but also for prison reform” As has Trump – see the First Step Act, which was BI-PARTISAN, incidentally, unlike this hit piece.
* Standard set of “Christians are anti-science” tropes. Yes, I know how to use Maxwell’s equations, thank you.
* He complains about Trump calling out fake news, but never mentions H. L. Mencken’s false reporting of the Scopes trail. (He probably also doesn’t know that H. L. Mencken greatly respected J.Gresham Machen and wrote a favorable obituary of him.)
* There is no mention that the early fundamentalist movement was a Northern and urban phenomena. There is no explanation provided on how it became associated with the rural South. Most pop history of Fundamentalism is full of astonishing gaps. It’s similar to the left’s conspiracy theory of the GOP’s “Southern Strategy” which neglects the radical socio-economic changes in the South in the 1970s. Something that Daughn has talked about on more than one occasion 😉
* The author wrongly believes that Russell Moore’s “wings were clipped”. This is – unsurprisingly – wildly ignorant of the current leftist insurgency in the SBC of which Russell Moore is a key player. He also shows very little care of the dark money being funneled into Moore’s ERLC to promote “immigration”, which has been outlined here.
* “I returned to America to discover a rich tradition of progressive Christianity, with thinkers like Rob Bell and Rachel Held Evans” In itself, that’s rich. Bell and Evans are like bar tenders that give thirsty men alcohol to quench their thirst, a shallow faux Christianity. I was surprised when I learned one of my co-workers at another job had Bell as a close family relative.
* An outstanding example of projection: “These faith leaders helped me see that no one political party had a monopoly on God; that Jesus himself was revolutionary, upsetting hierarchies wherever he went; and that a form of Christianity that could be co-opted by a political agenda was suspect at its core.”
* “What is Christian about what’s happening at the border right now?” I dunno, what is Christian about allowing drugs, human trafficking, and violence against the weak and powerless in society to continue? How is that justice?
* “What is Christian about the economic policies since Trump took office?” I dunno, what’s wrong with caring for the poor by ensuring that they have jobs? He complains about “income inequality” – while Trump has raised the MEDIAN U.S. worker wage to the highest level in U.S. history, with the greatest wage growth occurring in the lowest wage groups. I’d say that’s caring “for the least of these”.
* “Parts of the Old and New Testaments imply very strongly that there’s not just a judgment of individuals, but there’s a judgment of nations,” and America is a net blessing – for its own people and the world. Only one other nation exists that could be said is better, and the left wants to boycott divest and sanction it.
* Complains about “Ideology” – as if the left isn’t an ideology, and everyone else is ideological. A favorite trope since Napoleon deployed it in the French Revolution against his enemies.
* Follows uncritically every media pundit that conflates economic nationalism and ethnonationalism, which is the basis for saying that a man who has received many awards from African American organizations for his support of inner city initiatives and for his work with race reconciliation is a… well, you know.
* Stunning projection, an shockingly honest NeoMarxist definition: “‘religious liberty’ is code for protection of white, Western cultural heritage.” Most people know better than to state these kinds of falsehoods out loud, because it exposes too much. Like most antifa fascists, the goal is to enforce conformity to the doctrines of NeoMarxism, individual conscience be damned. Even atheists and pagans won’t be safe with this kind of thinking. If you have no right of conscience, what rights DO you have? Even the author of this article is going to end up sent to a re-education camp by his comrades.
* “‘It’s all about money,’ one Christian critic of Trump says about the support.” Dammit where’s my weekly pay check from the GOP??? Meanwhile Soros dark money floods everywhere. Willful blindness.

Under the Trump Administration the private sector in America has cut more carbon emissions than ANY, and I mean, ANY of the Paris Agreement nations, none of which have met their own emission cut targets.

If this is the best the left can provide against Trump, we’re going to win easily in 2020 😂 😂 😂
