Principalities and Powers
Eph 6:12: For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
The Apostle Paul instructs us to put on our spiritual armor because our battle in this world is a “spiritual” one. A warfare that involves the trickery and power of the devil, as opposed to a human battle. Even though human beings will certainly play a role in line with the schemes of the devil, but they are being used by these entities for the purposes of accomplishing evil. Evil spirits are the true power behind those who oppose the things of God (knowingly or unknowingly). We read,
Our Spiritual Warfare is Against “Principalities”
Principalities are ruling devil spirits possessing executive authority or governmental rule in the world. As we will see, this ruling power usually involves a particular nation, people or race. There are evil angels ruling the kingdoms of the world that oppose the truth of God, and of which Satan is the chief prince or ruler, of both the world system and its organization of demons, as noted in the gospel of Matthew.
In Matthew 12:24, the devil is called “Beelzebub” meaning lord of the dwelling, in which these wicked spirits are subject to and operate under Satan’s dominion. They, like their chief prince, direct, control, rule and carry out the present darkness of this world.
The idea of prince devil spirits ruling or controlling a region is supported in the Old Testament book of Daniel, chapter 10. Daniel is visited by an angel in response to his prayer to God. This angel, who was sent by God to answer Daniel’s prayer, was delayed for 21 days because of a battle that took place between God’s angel and “a prince of the kingdom of Persia.”Daniel reveals the angel’s message Dan 10:12-13.
The spiritual battle, for this angel, was of such magnitude that Michael, the archangel of God and designated prince of Israel, assisted the angel in battle. Another enemy of God, the prince of Greece, is also mentioned in Dan 10:20-21.
The book of Daniel gives us an excellent example of how these unseen spiritual entities fight to increase and maintain their realms of influence and control in order to hinder God’s purposes. In addition, as previously stated, these princes are named after the nations or rather their principalities in which they rule.
It is Satan’s purpose to deceive these nations and to keep them from obtaining a knowledge of God’s truth and salvation through His Son Jesus Christ. In the book of Revelation, chapter 20, Satan is depicted as a deceiver of nations.
Satan’s major success, in deceiving a nation, is due to a lack of discernment on the part of the people. The people are blind to the invisible forces of supernatural evil that are operating and influencing their visible human agents of political, social, religious and philosophical programs. Satan’s greatest victory would be to convince the world that he just doesn’t exist. However, God signifies the devil as the author of sin, sickness and death, and warns us to be alert and vigilant because the devil, as a roaring lion roams about seeking whom he may devour (1 Pet. 5:8).
The devil controls the kingdoms of the world and we are not to underestimate his influence and power, nor believe that this is the will of God. God is telling us to “stand” against these evil forces by equipping ourselves with the power of God, and looking unto Christ as our example.
Luke 4:5-7: And the devil, taking him (Jesus) up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered (to surrender or yield up) unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
There will also come a day in which we are told in the book of Revelation,
Rev 11:15: And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
However, until this Scripture is fulfilled we can only conclude, as the Apostle Paul instructs, that our wrestling involves principalities or peoples or regions under the influence and deception of Satan. Satan is the prince or ruler of the kingdoms of this world, also described in the Bible as the “kingdom of darkness,” in which we have our spiritual warfare. In addition, let us not be fooled, because Satan can and does prosper evil people in the world.
Our Spiritual Warfare is Against “Powers and World Rulers of Darkness”
Although the word “powers” is left unclear as to Paul’s precise meaning in the verse, this expression is used elsewhere in scripture to infer the powers that be in authority. In keeping with the context of this verse, this would include all high-ranking, evil supernatural powers and the power of sin and evil in operation in the world. The fruits of this type of evil can probably be seen in drug cartels, gross poverty, plagues, terrorism, and other heinous crimes against humanity, even toward the animal kingdom.
Some Christian authors also associate “world rulers” with magic and demonic pagan gods such as the Ephesians’ Artemis and seems to be in line with the pagan culture of ancient times, in which temples were dedicated to these demonic pagan deities. And let us not forget “Molech,” the national god of the Ammonites’ in Old Testament history. The priests would place the sacrificial children into the brass hands of the image, in which these helpless victims would slip into the fire below. This is described in Scripture as the “abominations of the nations” (2 kings 16:3 ASV).
Our Spiritual Warfare is Against “Spiritual Wickedness in Heavenly Places”
The Greek word for wickedness is ponēria and means depravity and particularly in the sense of malice and mischief, plots, sins, and iniquity (Strong’s Gk. Dict.).
Satan is also depicted as the prince of the power of the air
Since Satan is the prince of the power of the air, these wicked spirits, in high places, are often understood to be the collective organization of all of Satan’s devil spirits. These malevolent spirits work evil and mischief and operate in our atmosphere. They operate as close to the very air we breathe, and reach to realms beyond. All kinds of spiritual filth are propagated , in these realms, for the purpose of humanity’s deception and subsequent destruction.
As Christians we are delivered from the power of the prince of the air, and from the sinful nature that once ruled our path in life. When we received God’s Holy Spirit, at the moment of our conversion to Christ, we were translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of God’s light, in which we now have God in Christ in us. We are continually delivered and empowered by God as we walk according to His Word and Spirit that He has given us.
Jesus is also called a Prince, He is called the Prince of Peace and of Life (Isa. 9:6 and Acts 3:15) Whose kingdom plays no part in this present world system of darkness. Prior to His arrest, Jesus said to His disciples,
John 14:30
Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
John 18:36
“Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.”
Please note: Jesus is not speaking against the Jews, for Jesus and His followers were Jewish. He is speaking against the hypocritical religious authorities who would have Jesus killed versus lose their sphere of control over the people of God, in which their own belly was their god.
The details of God’s plan, His provision of escape from Satan’s kingdom of darkness through faith in Christ, was kept a mystery from the beginning of time. It wasn’t until the revelation of the Son of God on earth, and His complete victory in His death and resurrection for the salvation of humanity, that the mystery of salvation through Christ is revealed to us. The Apostle Paul states,
1Co 2:7-10: “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory. Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”
In other words, if God’s enemies knew that the Lord’s death would bring the Kingdom of God and His power into the hearts of every believer, with His gift of Holy Spirit, and thus bring God’s light into the world, they would not have crucified Him.
Who is your prince?
For the Christian, Jesus Christ is our Prince of Peace and Life, and we will reign with Him forevermore.

Protection Comes from God
Paul warns that our real battle here on earth is spiritual, in our minds, our beliefs, and worship. We not only should live a clean life, eating proper and clean foods for physical health, keeping the Sabbaths and Holy Days, but also be alert to other influences that affect our emotions, attitudes, and thinking.
Make no mistake, Satan uses all available resources to take advantage of us. Through avenues like advertising, a form of mind control, he creates a desire for the pleasures of this world.
The demonic forces are also trying to sell their wares of pleasure, excitement, thrills, ego-building or whatever it takes to “sign you up” as one of their initiates. Twisting your mind to accept what they have to offer is the name of their game.

We are promised that if Yahweh’s Spirit abides in us, we have nothing to fear from the spirit realm, for: “Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world” 1John 4:4.
Draw near to Yahweh in prayer. “Submit yourselves therefore to Yahweh. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).
We are in a spiritual battle. The Evil One is ramping up his efforts against this world and Yahweh’s people. We need all the defenses Yahweh provides to the faithful who seek to serve Him, including regular prayer.

This is why I refuse to call Satan…”Lucifer”, which means ‘light bringer’.
Personally, I think that calling the prince of darkness, “Lucifer”, has been a part of an evil plan to make Satan seem ‘misunderstood’ and not as bad as he really is.

Not many angels or demons are named in Scripture — and you have to dig into things like the Book of Tobit to find some (I believe that is the only place where Raphael is found).
I read somewhere that it is thought the majority of fallen angels came from the choir of Powers.
I would be interested to see a cite for that. The inner triad of angelic beings, of which Powers are a part, is generally concerned with maintaining the universe as a whole — that water runs downhill, stars run in their appointed courses, planets move according to His Pleasure, and the like. It would make a great deal of sense if the demonic host were largely comprised of former Principalities, since they would have been tasked with the nature of mankind.
Of course, our understanding of angelic behavior is likely on a par with a dog’s understanding of a corporate business meeting….

Principalities (Fallen Angels)

I think it’s an interesting article. Many good points. I’m not sure why the author insists that fallen angels are not demons/devils.
I do agree with St. Thomas Aquinas that the fallen angels have lost their heavenly authority and that the lowest choir of angels has authority over them no matter their previous status.
However, the fallen angels have their own hierarchy, probably patterned after their pre-fallen state.
They have authority and power over the demonic spirits – imho – the demons are of the lower level – I think – they have no authority – they must be invited in – when they have accomplished possession – they invite their partners – and – yes – there is a hierarchy – the most powerful demon is the most difficult to expel – my understanding – however – the fallen angels are of the higher level – and – have power and authority – to rule nations – you can tell where they reside by the ‘rulers’ of those nations – because they are controlled by the fallen angels.

The citation is not in Scripture. It comes from another Hebrew text, as I understand it.
And I think most of the Demons came from Principalities, but that may not be right.
All I really know is for the years I was in the Cathedral Choir, we were surrounded by mosaics of said angels. Behind the Sanctuary, over the pillars, there are nine specific mosaics with the three archangels named, Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Principalities, Powers, and Dominations.
Seraphim appear in Isaiah and The Apocalypse. Raphael in Tobias or Tobit. Gabriel in Luke and at least one other book. Michael in The Apocalypse. I’m sure there’s more.

As a side note, the top ranks of angelic beings are described as distinctly non-humanoid in their “default” appearance — although they can, of course, appear as anything they want to for humans. Seraphim are described as having six wings — two covering their legs, two covering their faces, and two to maneuver about. Cherubim have four wings — but also four heads. And Ezekiel’s Wheels may have been Thrones in their native appearance. Since they are concerned with The Presence, they would likely be more akin to pure Thought than anything else.
C. S. Lewis has a scene in his book “That Hideous Strength” where the great Angel’s of the planets are trying to show themselves to the humans in a way they can handle it, and they finally have to take human form.
I don’t know why autocorrect keeps making angels as Angel’s. So darned annoying.

hubby and I were both praying yesterday–it’s been almost a MONTH since the ice storm laid down an inch or more coating of ice on the driveway and it hasn’t budged even a little!
hubby brought the truck up Friday night to take me grocery shopping yesterday morning–going down was a testament of my hubby’s steel balls and amazing skill in handling his vehicle. once we got back, we loaded the groceries into the bucket of the tractor–I rode on the back rails of the plow and held on for dear life-in the wind and cold.
we got looks at the grocery store for sure–many probably thought we were hoarding, or whatever, but i bought enough staples for a month–just cuz of the driveway!

I have traveled a lot in Asian countries and jumped over many open sewage ditches running down the edge of streets like sidewalks. Public bathrooms. Try going into a small hut and squatting over a hole then using a dipper of water to flush it right out into the ditch.
There is a reason you are required to have shots before you travel into some of these places. If your not required…get them anyway. Actually…get them before traveling to certain cities in California.

The worst was getting a stomach virus while I was in the mountains on Bali. A doctor actually drove up and treated me and gave me medicine all for $15.
When I broke my wrist, we traveled to the nearest clinic through the mountain jungles and there I got a x-ray ( that no one could read….except we all saw the fracture.). I was worried I might not have enough money on me and discussed what to do with the guide. When they told me it was $2.80, I said…”think I can handle that!”
Oh yes, my bags have lots and lots of packages of tissues when I travel…almost anywhere these days.
I also carried chewable pepto bismol tablets and chewed them before eating any local foods. Except one night when I showed up for dinner the hosts were horrified to see my black teeth and gums and were hysterical. I looked in a mirror and sure enough …black teeth and gums. Those particular tablets were to be swallowed and not chewed. I had a hard time convincing them that I was not rabid.

1. The WuFlu really isn’t such a big problem this year, but
2. The Dimms and their media buddy conspirators are trying to make it look like the WuFlu is piling up dead bodies in cities and towns all over the world, so that
3. Those same Dimms and their media buddy conspirators can claim that PTrump is incompetent and ineffective, his efforts being premature or too late, overreactive or too little, too focused or too broad, etc., to try to tarnish him for the 2020 election.

I agree with parts 2 and 3 above, but to me, part 1 is unbelievable.
Just looking at the consequences of the WuFlu in China, I don’t see how part 1 could be remotely believable.
The only reason China has become a world power is because of its trade. Xi is very invested in the scope of China’s trade . . . it’s his lifeblood.
Recently, PTrump jerked China and Xi back to reality by imposing large tariffs on certain Chinese goods because of unfair trade practices. This has stunted China’s trade and put Xi, personally in a very uncomfortable position, with attendant losses of billions of dollars of current trade revenue.
Now the WuFlu hits. Trade grinds almost to a standstill in China. Manufacturers are moving their factories out of China or developing alternative sources for the manufactured goods and source materials with Vietnam, Taiwan, India and others. The future of trade in China and Xi himself now are threatened.
Xi is ordering his workers to go back to their factories with not an overwhelming current success.
We’ll have to see how this progresses in the near future, but if the WuFlu was really no big deal, China and Xi would be anywhere near the large, deep hole they’ve dug for themselves and are currently living in.
Additionally, numerous countries other than China are shutting down very profitable festivals and shows, closing off transportation and segregating whole communities at great negative impact to those countries.
Something is going on with the WuFlu that is not apparent in the gross numbers of those infected or died. With roughly 90,000 total cases, and 3,000 total deaths, the WuFlu is dwarfed by the seasonal flu numbers of 600,000,000 infected and 350,000 deaths, but countries aren’t shutting down, stopping trade and transportation and forcefully quarantining communities because of the seasonal flu.
So, what is it about the WuFlu that we don’t know that is causing this massive reaction in many countries? I don’t think it’s all because of a Dimm/MSM plot.

Wow! That’s wild. This may be linked to what happens to me with YouTube and Twitter (which expresses differently). What happens when you go to either?
First off, it takes forever to load, and usually does not… if it does load, it only lasts for seconds, then little circle indicating ‘reloading’ appears, followed in a few seconds by the message “Err_connection_reset”
I googled the error message (takes forever to load) and got a cache of websites to go to for a “fix” … seems I’m to go to three dots for settings in to right corner of PC monitor. Ok, I go there and I’m asked to “sign-in” to google. I changed browsers from Opera to googlechrome so that I would not lose all of my bookmarks, right? So, I give google my username or email and then the password… google takes forever to load and then tells me that the info I input is incorrect. I know that it is not because I have it saved on a piece of paper on my desk. What is happening is that websites where I try to gain access slam the door so to speak because I don’t have the ‘key’ to get in. It happens here at QTree (wordpress) and at Marica’s (wordpress) also. I have to reload several times and then I’m allowed in.
My take? I have windows 7… which dropped all support Jan 31, this year. I also learned thru efforts to ‘fix’ prob that Windows is no longer backing up my files (no support after Jan 31st ?) Since there is no backup google can’t find the info on my computer. I’m flummoxed! Think I will have to upgrade to windows 10, and I would rather have a root canal! grandson has a friend who is an IT genius… I’m tryin to schedule him to look at problem.
Yes, Windows 7 is kaput – no longer secure. Do you have an older computer hanging around unused? You could probably run Ubuntu (Linux) on it and have a very impervious backup system for free.
You do need to get on a new system. Windows 7 makes you a sitting duck!!!

Not sure I understand all of your objections, but I do see that the article in question has a map, and counts what they call “lily pads,” which are “cooperative security locations” (could that include embassies?) with less than 200 people. This article from another source states there are more than 400 bases around the world, and doesn’t appear to be counting embassies. It’s from 2019:

– “Lily pads” Politico alludes to in the Philippines, I believe are sites belonging to Philippine Armed Forces. During Bush years, maybe some of hussein years, we periodically rotated Special Forces in to advise Philippine Marines engaging bad guys in Mindanao and the like. US did not have infrastructure that one would normally call a “base”. It was not a “constant” presence. Rather, as emerging operations required.
– Politicos number for Iraq ranged from 505 down to five. PURE sensationalism, at best. Which one counted towards 800? IF Politico had integrity, report a factual number.
