As we grew our nation from the Pilgrims to today, a national recognition of and reliance on God’s Providence has been a hallmark of our national character. From William Bradford to Donald Trump, with exceptions, we have thanked and praised God for His powerful and merciful hand as He has aided and dealt with us as a nation.
It is entirely fitting that we have chosen “In God We Trust” as out national motto and the words “one nation under God” in our pledge of allegiance to our flag and country. May our recognition of and dependence on God grow ever stronger in the coming days.
The following are some short history and quotes of this relationship:

“No nation can be strong except in the strength of God, or safe except in His defense,” Treasury Secretary Salmon P. Chase wrote to U.S. Mint director James Pollack in 1861. “The trust of our people in God should be declared on our national coins. You will cause a device to be prepared without unnecessary delay with a motto expressing in the fewest and tersest words possible this national recognition.”

On February 10th, Senator Homer Ferguson from Michigan introduced a Senate Joint Resolution (S.J. 126), [6] explaining to the Senate:
“Our nation is founded on a fundamental belief in God, and the first and most important reason for the existence of our government is to protect the God-given rights of our citizens. . . . Indeed, Mr. President, over one of the doorways to this very Chamber inscribed in the marble are the words “In God We Trust.” Unless those words amount to more than a carving in stone, our country will never be able to defend itself.”
These resolutions were passed, and on June 14, 1954 (Flag Day), President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the bill into law, officially adding the words “under God” into the Pledge of Allegiance, telling the nation:
“From this day forward, the millions of our school children will daily proclaim in every city and town, every village and rural school house, the dedication of our nation and our people to the Almighty. To anyone who truly loves America, nothing could be more inspiring than to contemplate this rededication of our youth, on each school morning, to our country’s true meaning. . . . Fireworks have been going off for about 45 minutes here and theyre illegal. More than in previous years. Since every city cancelled all 4th of July events and the state scum said do nothing, people at least are doing this. Police will not do anything on these calls. Since its only 930, I bet itll go on another hour. Its ok by me, but the dog’s hiding in my closet.
My neighborhood has gone all out for the fireworks. They are everywhere and awesome. Poor puppy does not like them!

Maybe people are going to figure out just how pervasive the Government has been in their lives, and they don’t need government to tell them when they can celebrate and when they can’t. This shutdown might backfire in ways the Left didn’t anticipate.

Usually just scattered private fireworks here and there, with a couple big shows (professional displays) at nearby parks with the finale around 10pm or 10:30pm, and then it’s usually quiet.
Not this year.
This year it sounded like a war zone, late into the night, but without any ‘professional’ fireworks displays. I had to run an errand at around 9:30pm, and it was the same where I went.
Some of it could have been gunfire (people a couple miles away in the downtown area fire AK47s and AR15s into the air on the 4th and New Year’s Eve), but a lot of it was fireworks, and surprisingly loud and resonant ‘booms!’ for what should be consumer-grade stuff.

We normally have two government run firework displays – for a 20 minute, traffic nightmare going to and from. This year, everyone did their own and a good time was had by all.
South Carolina must have sold out of fireworks. 🤣🤣🤣 They’re legal there.
Well a CHURCH group was selling fireworks in a big tent in the Wally Mart parking lot as always this year.
I think my neighbors bought most of them. They started when the sun had barely hit the horizon and kept on going for hours. I fell asleep to the sound of fireworks and gunfire around 10:30.

His words don’t say exactly what I’ve always thought on this point, but they come very close, and I think we’re describing the same thing. “Christian civilization” is the key. It’s a kind of nebulous term, and I think many would prefer different, similar ones, but it’s good enough for me.
Unfortunately, we have fallen into the hands of paganism. Whether we get out or not is the question.
It’s definitely an exciting part of the story! But I take comfort in the fact that much of what we consider to be the better parts of Western civilization WAS in large part the work of pagans. Believers in God successfully appealed to the righteous pagan time and time again in the past – I see no reason for it not to keep working! 😀

The rights and freedoms given to us by God were acknowledged in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution – they do not establish those rights, nor do they maintain them.
What did God give you such a treasure of freedoms to accomplish? Is your freedom just so you have have a life of leisure? Or are the rights and freedoms God gave you to be used in advancing the Kingdom of God?
Did God give you a voice not to speak?
Did God give you freedom of religious practice not to pursue Christ’s Kingdom?
Did God give you freedom not to help break the chains of those still bound in slavery?
Do not hold the sacred rights God has given you so cheap that you do not value their Divine origin or you see them only as means to seek your own transient comfort and happiness for a short season of your life.
There are many in this world who are enslave who long to be able to worship Christ freely and to speak boldly of the Glory of Christ.

Coronavirus Update 7/5/20 – New HCQ trials
Happy 4th of July
Cases still spiking in the United States as a whole and locally here in Texas. Deaths nationwide still low at 254 but unfortunately rising here in Texas now some with 51 of those here. Hospitalizations now up to 7890 but rate rise has decreased to under 300 per day.
Lots to cover here as I have been getting a ton of questions about these new studies on hydroxychloroquine. So I took some time out of my holiday weekend to quickly update you with what is the story with the new Hydroxychloroquine trials in the news.
The first trial and most popular trial being discussed is the Ford Health Systems trial. The study, published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, is a retrospective study of 2541 hospitalized patients. It determined that hydroxychloroquine provided a “66% hazard ratio reduction,” and hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin a 71 percent reduction, compared to neither treatment. In-hospital mortality was 18.1 percent overall; 13.5 percent with just hydroxychloroquine, 22.4 percent with azithromycin alone, and 26.4 percent with neither drug.
This looks great but like the previous studies which showed it had no benefit we have to look closely at the data. First, we must mention that this is a retrospective observational study. Thus, these case reports are limited since it is not entirely possible to assess if the outcome occurred more frequently among the persons included compared to a control population. However, traditionally, case reports do though have potential value in pharmaceutical safety research by generating potential signals that signify unexpected adverse events.
Next we have to assess that there are some statistical differences in the treatment groups. Average age for the HCQ group was 53 vs 71 years of age in the control group. In order to assess severity of illness they used a maximal modified Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (mSOFA) score on admission. The mSOFA score is predictive of ICU mortality. Those with a score mSOFA score >5 were 25% in the HCQ group vs 36% in the control group. However, 25% did not get an mSOFA score as it was started a month into the study. So it appears the control group had more seriously ill patients.
On the flip side in the HCQ there were 40% diabetics vs 32% in the control group. Also there was way more obese patients BMI>30 in the HCQ group at 52% vs 39% in the control group. So the HCQ population looks to have more risk factors for severe disease which balances out some of it.
But the biggest factor that must be considered is that the HCQ group was given steroids at 79% vs 35% in the control group. Knowing that dexamethasone has been shown to decrease mortality this is critical information to consider and could have made a significant difference in the outcomes of these patients. So I think this trial ironically may be getting a little overhyped similar to the ones that showed no benefits earlier.
I have never thought that these drugs would be very beneficial in hospitalized patients because I feel by the time you are admitted the virus likely has already made millions of copies and slowly viral replication since very unlikely to have much benefit at this point. This study does not convince me otherwise. Since I still believe HCQ has significant potential has an outpatient treatment. To me the most meaningful part of this study is that there were no reported torsades de pointes in the entire study. This is the cardiac arrhythmia that has gotten way too much press. So this gives us more safety data for it being used as an outpatient treatment.

The next study on HCQ is an outpatient study
This is another retrospective study designed to describe outcomes of patients with COVID-19 in the outpatient setting using telemedicine after early treatment with zinc, low dose hydroxychloroquine, and azithromycin (triple therapy) dependent on risk stratification. It was a study of 335 SARS-COV2 virus positive patients. A total of 141 patients met the criteria for risk stratification and were given the triple therapy. The requirements to get treated were one of the following. Group A: age >60 years; with or without clinical symptoms; Group B: age ≤60 years and shortness of breath; Group C: age ≤60 years, clinically symptomatic and with at least one comorbidity.
Independent public reference data from 377 confirmed COVID-19 patients of the same community were used as an untreated control group. 4 of 141 treated patients (2.8%) were hospitalized, which was significantly less (p<0.001) compared with 58 of 377 untreated patients (15.4%) (odds ratio 0.16, 95% CI 0.06-0.5). Therefore, the odds of hospitalization of treated patients were 84% less than in the untreated group. One patient (0.7%) died in the treatment group versus 13 patients (3.5%) in the untreated group (odds ratio 0.2, 95% CI 0.03-1.5; p=0.16). There were no cardiac side effects. It should be mentioned the one death in the triple therapy group was a patient with a long history of cancer and only received one dose of the medication before passing.
This to me unlike the previous one is a pretty significant study. Yes it is also retrospective so that adds some limitations discussed previously. But this study is an outpatient study much like we suspect where HCQ will be most effective. In addition it is one of the first studies I have seen to give us some degree of risk stratification as to who should be treated. Doctors need some data on who to treat and who does not need treatment. This risk stratification for treatment showed us a significant reduction in hospitalizations by 84%. In addition fatalities were 500% higher in the untreated group. In addition the authors point out their belief in the importance of Zinc supplementation with the treatment. Finally, once again no heart arrhythmias and more evidence on the safety which most primary care doctors already knew as we have been prescribing hydroxychloroquine for about 65 years.
This was a small sample size and not a randomized control trial but a retrospective study but it certainly looks to correlate with what we are seeing anecdotally as treating physicians. More trials are still needed for sure but this like the previous study in Brazil as outpatient telemedicine looks very promising for sure.

Finally, another study in the Lancet this time retrospective study on systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) patients.
This retrospective study looked at 6228 SLE and RA patients to see how many caught Covid-19 on different treatments. In summary they found that patients on Hydroxychloroquine had a statistically significantly lower number of Covid-19 infections compared to other disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARD’s). They go on to state that these patients are all somewhat immunosuppressed and they can not make a correlation to patients when normal immune systems based on this information. Just one more small piece of evidence that HCQ may have some protective effect. Once again you have to take these results lightly as it is a retrospective study. This study mentions it’s limitations for those of you interested read them at the link below.

Part of the problem is that private businesses have the right to request any stupid rules they want — you must wear a plaid shirt; you must wear mismatched socks, you have to wear a face mask, you have to wear a baseball cap…..and they can request you leave the business if you don’t comply. [UNLESS, of course, this involves race, creed, color, gender, national origin, etc. etc.] They may then have police remove you for trespass.
Note that they can’t have the police remove you for not wearing a mask, because it’s not a law. But they can have you removed for trespass.
Have an accident or injury at work that is blamed on oxygen deprivation and private business will get nervous. Have a health condition develop that is work related and they will get scared. Govt is too fickle to protect them forever, this they should know and they will eventually be left holding the bag. Circulate a paper at work that explicitly says that the employer demanded mask wear began at such and such a date for such and such hours. They might start to open their eyes at what they face down the road.
Maybe produce an online personal log entitled mandatory mask wear people can fill out. Leave a few blank ones laying around at your place of business, ie.. the copy machine or break room. The company officers will pick them up and they will get discussed at meetings. Eventually it will filter to the top and company lawyers will begin to get nervous.

I have always that any such ‘gag order’ was part of the ruse, with a wink and a nod, for the very simple reason that no patriot, and certainly Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, would keep his mouth shut if it mean the Republic was in danger of being lost, regardless of any ‘gag order’.
He would talk, say whatever needed to be said to whomever needed to hear it, the same way Adm. Rogers violated all protocol and went to meet with DJT while Hussein the Usurper was still in office.
So whatever the ‘gag order’ situation is, it wouldn’t prevent Flynn from doing what was necessary, if it became necessary.
And Trump could pardon him if it came down to it, and Flynn would be a hero for violating any ‘gag order’ if it was a matter of national security or otherwise related to saving the Republic.
So I have always thought the ‘gag order’ aspect was either a convenient cover or a non-issue.
Because if push really came to shove, Flynn could (and certainly would) violate it, he would have a duty and an obligation to do so, a far higher duty than he owes to any ‘gag order’.

I think they’re both involved, but I think “it” (The Plan) is way bigger than either of them, or even both of them. The Q project was just a small part of the plan, IMO – a very sobering thought.

IMO Obama had some degree of [likely unauthorized] knowledge of how “The Plan” worked, and was intent on sabotaging it by keeping FLYNN tied down and out of any effective position. Others in the O administration helped go after ROGERS for the same reason. And of course, stopping TRUMP was a central part of them stopping things.
The Q clearance is significant. I don’t want to dig into that too much – no more than Q has revealed. But as Q says, we have more than we know.

Bookmarked. Excellent article. Corona viruses have some common strains, makes sense that there would be some immunity – which we are obviously seeing from the people who’ve been exposed but don’t get sick.

Apparently (Politicalmoonshine has LONG articles of documentation) Hussein changed the presidential transition process by Executive Order, to include “Pandemic Preparedness”.
This is a highly unusual move, and he did it roughly 45 days BEFORE the GOP candidate was even confirmed to be Trump.
Part of the Executive Order on ‘Pandemic Preparedness’ includes a ‘task force’ being appointed in the case of a national emergency pandemic, and IIRC, the people to lead the task force would be the head of NIH and whatever Birx leads, along with participation by the CDC.
Fauci and Birx (and I think the head of the CDC) are ALL Obama embeds, so Hussein retains control over any plannedemic, because his people were to be inserted by Executive Order.
And the idea was that there is no way for Trump to overrule, because Trump is not a Doctor. If Trump overruled the most ‘respected’ medical experts in the country, it would be “incompetence” and cause to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the president.
This was all set up, in advance, before the GOP candidate was even known.
So Trump had to play along with Birx and Fauci, but he could also let truth slip to the American People about things Fauci and Birx were hiding, like Hydroxychloroquine.
Remember, Trump never ‘overruled’ Birx or Fauci, he just said “I’ve heard about this treatment, HCQ”, instantly bringing it to the attention of the entire country, which sparked the ‘debate’ (attacks by the MSM) which provoked everyone who distrusts the MSM to investigate for themselves and then spread the word (and the truth) about HCQ+Azithromycin+Zinc.

I don’t know what the metrics are, maybe it’s 500,000 views of one of SD’s proposed videos, or maybe it’s 3,000,000 views. I expect SD has an idea of how much exposure (in this case, views) would be necessary.
But at some point, the ‘target’ would be forced by public pressure into a defensive posture, to engage and respond.

Remember that handwashing advice going around back in March about singing “Happy Birthday to You” while washing you hands as a means of making sure you washed them long enough?
I realized the other day it’s an occult ritual. The cabal is using the pandemic to usher in their NWO. Singing “Happy Birthday” to yourself every time you wash your hands out of fear of their virus is their way of symbolizing your “birth” into their sick “New Normal.”
Your post reminded me that there was a reference here at WQTH to an article recently in American Thinker, written by a Dentist, pointing out that the way people use masks in a non-professional setting, without other careful regimen, is useless.
He did use the ‘sing a song to yourself’ concept though, as a way to explain how long he scrubs his own hands after meeting and talking with his patient before beginning any dental procedure, and then after he is finished, before he leaves the room.
FWIW, he used the ‘song’ concept at least three different times (Mr. Ed, Gilligan’s Island, Beverly Hillbillies).

If it was any other song, I probably wouldn’t haven’t said anything. But here it is they’re pushing the idea of a “New Normal” and a cultural revolution and can’t help but think the specific song choice of “Happy Birthday” connects to that social engineering.

Ha! Got my computer’s sound working again…..
I had busted it doing something, then went to fix it and got it working again…..then went off and did something else that busted it again, and just went through an hour and 10 minutes of troubleshooting (and multiple reboots) and it’s working again. Mind you, part of this is my own stupid fault because the stuff I’m installing and doing specifically involves replumbing the sound (to record/play back and add effects).
The issue is a peculiar one. This machine (as previously mentioned, a Dell Precision T5500) has a whooptie-doodle video card that wants to output video on those weird white plugs with square holes, while the monitor is looking for a standard VGA connector. Well, since you’d want your audio to sync up with your video, it keeps trying to output digital audio on the graphics card’s connectors and leave the basic motherboard stuff dangling. This means you have to go through all the different ways that the system can “discover” audio and force them off their defaults.
I’d buy a stupid basic video card to replace the whoopsie-doodle one…..but there aren’t any for PCIe. Nobody seems to think anyone would ever want to not have the fastest bestest twitchiest video possible — and those are prohibitively expensive because they’re being vacuumed up by third-world countries where you can steal electricity to run bitcoin mining operations.
*sigh* If someone had told me, as late as the 00’s, that I’d be having this sort of problem, I’d have been incredulous.
You need an adapter. Try http://www.newegg.com which is where I got my DVI > VGA adapter.
I’ve had that forever….the problem is the silly sound system thinking that it should output sound through the super-duper video card — which has no sound equipment attached — because it’s “superior” to sound on the motherboard (which is where the speakers are plugged-in).

Hubby has GOOGLE Chrome and can shut down the ads. Since I have Brave I get the *(^&%&*^%^$##@^$#%^&^& ADS instead. So far the longest running ad was over FIFTY MINUTES!!! I never did get to see the Butar vid I wanted to see.
Hubby tried to fix it and all that happened is I got different ads!
So it looks like instead of DeMonitizing they are now FLOODING Conservative Videos with what looks like HOURS OF ADS!

Breaks a lot of sites, but I don’t see many ads.

I think Gail is experiencing what I’m seeing today. The ads are embedded into the video feed. YouTube is trying to force you to give them your identifying info in order to get a “trial version” of an ad free experience. I’m rewatching the Salute to America on youtube at The White House channel.
The feed was interrupted every 2-3 minutes with an advertisement. Absolutely maddening.
The only difference for me is that I could see a “Skip Ad” option after a couple of seconds.

There is usually a “Skip Ad” arrow towards bottom right that can be clicked after a 2-4 seconds.
Two times in the last week I’ve gone to play a video and the sound was just buzzing. It would continue, sometimes, after I stopped playing, but I could then go into the audio dingus on the toolbar, change the volume, and it would stop. Or something. I rebooted the first time. The next time, I checked for the controller software in the process list, killed it (it was somehow running twice) and have been OK since then, but at least I know of something other than a reboot that will fix it if it happens again.
I understand that Kernel 5.5.0 is going to clean up some ALSA issues….

As a side note, this seems to be more of an Ubuntu/Mint issue than a Debian or dev issue.
Linus issues a new linux kernel fairly often — 5.0.0 was released 3/4/2019 and version 5.1.0 came out 5/6/2019. This is a result of the accelerated software development schedule possible under his OTHER software project, git. [Regarding the names, he has gone on record as saying “I’m an egotistical b*****d, and have named my two most important software developments after myself — ‘Linux’, and ‘Git’.”]. You can keep track of all the underlying Linuxes on kernel.org. From there, it goes out to all the repos to see if it breaks anything and to be customized with their preferred options, debugging flags, and such. Debian tries to keep it pretty vanilla, but Ubuntu likes to cherry-pick features from the last several versions and possibly versions still in development. Accordingly, an Ubuntu 5.2.8 kernel might have throwback 5.1.10 code still active and maybe even 5.2.10 code that isn’t in the official release — but looked so good, they had to use it.
Ubuntu kernels have been having ALSA (the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) issues since at least 2017, so fixing them is fairly well-documented. The problem is trying to figure out which of the dozen-or-so known fixes applies to your particular problem.
Just as a further illustration of the fun Linux kernel build process…….on July 1, there was an important release: “Stable kernels 5.7.7, 5.4.50, 4.19.131, 4.14.187, 4.9.229, and 4.4.229 have been released. They all contain important fixes and users should upgrade.”

This has happened before. When pulsars were discovered, no one could figure out how we could be hearing a fast sequence of regular pulses unless it was intelligence. Part of the issue was the short time between pulses implied a very SMALL object, yet the pulses were still strong enough to be heard at a very great distance. Well, we found out there were very small objects with a mass greater than the sun (billions of tons per teaspoon full) with extremely strong magnetic fields, rotating several times per second. The pulses were basically like the beam of a light house, striking the earth on every rotation.
So we’ve been burned before. A new source of pulses THIS time is simply going to have the scientists looking for a new natural phenomenon. Even if they *don’t* find one it will be a long time before they decide that there’s no choice but to believe it’s intelligent life, and you will still, even then, have cautious skeptics.
I’ll start getting excited if we get something like “short-short-short-long-long-long-short-short-short-pause”.
Yeah…even if artificial, a simple metronome tick doesn’t MEAN anything other than “I am an astrogation beacon.” Which would be unnecessary, because pulsars can actually serve that purpose! (The phonograph sent on the pioneers came with a plaque, famous for the nude man and woman, part of which was an attempt to code the location of our Sun with respect to pulsars, uniquely identifiable by their frequency.)
One thing that would be unambiguously a sign of intelligence would be sequences of pulses building up as prime numbers (an example made famous in “Contact”), or even just odd numbers or even numbers or square numbers…anything showing a mathematically meaningful pattern, but not a short-term repeating one.

Despite the local Democrat tyrants trying to ruin Independence Day with new shutdowns, masks, and police threats of cracking down on holiday celebrations, I saw more fireworks in my neighborhood last night than any other 4th of July in my lifetime. These were celebratory fireworks, not the psy-op stuff that was happening here last week. It was as if the neighborhood collectively decided, “Screw you, government. If you’re going to shut down Independence Day, then I’ll put on my own fireworks display whether you approve or not!” The cabal tried to kill Independence Day and they FAILED.

I second this. The hard core lefties will never admit it, but there are many who aren’t whose style was cramped and had to get through major medical issues while it was all going on. (A neighbor has been really sick.) Usually, faith communities would come together to help the family. That couldn’t happen according to the SJW.
And then to go against conventional wisdom on so many issues regarding health, things that we’ve always been taught, and stripping rights and controlling by fear.

As I’ve noted previously, I know no one personally who had COVID (except Q-Tree) but I do know someone who had a heart attack because her cardiologist canceled appointments, and by the time she was seen and got her cardiac cath scheduled – she had a heart attack.
The other big issue – still – about COVID, is the interference by the government in treating COVID. I’ve seen elsewhere, and IMO, many deaths were caused by political interference in treatment modalities.

Pentonville, was the most severe and feared of the new English prisons. It was built in 1842, and was the gaol to which many Bedford convicts were sent to wait for transportation. Inmates were kept on their own in their cells most of the time. When they were let out, to go to chapel or for exercise, they sat in special seats or wore special masks so that they couldn’t even see, let alone talk to, another prisoner. Not surprisingly, several prisoners went mad and three committed suicide.
The new Bedford Gaol, finished in 1849 as an extension to the house of correction, followed the pattern set by Pentonville. All prisoners had their own cell in which they worked all day, to keep them apart so that they could not talk to each other. They were allowed to leave their cells for exercise, but then they were separated by each being made to hold a knot in a rope held taut between prisoners. The Silent System
By the 1860s opinion had changed. It was now believed that many criminals were habitual criminals and nothing would change them. They just had to be scared enough by prison never to offend again. The purpose of the silent system was to break convicts’ wills by being kept in total silence and segregation and by long, pointless hard labour.
Under this system, based on Auburn Prison, New York, USA, prisoners could work, but monotonous and pointless work, in total silence. The work was deliberately degrading: to break the prisoner’s will and self-respect. The diet was monotonous, with exactly the same food on the same day each week.

LOL…On the last sentence! DH was the designated cook for the four who shared an apartment during dental/medical school years. It was definitely a same food on the same day each week menu…beans and hot dogs on Monday, Spaghetti on Tuesday, Stew from a can on Wednesday, etc. definitely not much time, money or effort spent on food during those years.
Decades later my collage roommate, after marriage and family, more or less did the same but with an updated version that included tacos, etc. perhaps that’s why she and her second husband eat out so much!
BTW, we had dinner the other night at our golf club and our waiter is a young man who has worked there while a student at the local university. In conversation he said he was finishing up a summer course, the tuition fee being $1300 for a single class.
DH paid $250 A SEMESTER at an Ivy League school and later $3000 a year for dental/medical school! Of course, that was about 244 years ago…think several of the Founding Fathers were in his class.

I took one such test (well, it claimed to be the test), and half of it was clearly intended to test one’s understanding of how the system worked…and the other half was knowledge of specific facts, basically trivia but trivia we’d all expect to know. Even the first part had the sorts of detail in it you’d perhaps expect to be able to look up in a book if you needed it. Broad principles were thus largely absent. I did score very well (I don’t remember whether or not I missed one question or none of them), so this isn’t the griping about “trick questions” or “trivial” people who have done poorly on tests will sometimes make.
(There are genuine trick questions, and ones that aren’t trick questions: you should have no trouble with if you actually have an understanding of the subject, rather than just learned to parrot stuff.)
What I mean by trivia is questions like “Who was President during World War I.” Most would say that’s important, and they are right…but given the choice, I’d rather someone be clueless about that, but understand the importance of separation of powers and limited government, than the other way around. And the latter stuff ISN’T being taught and tested for any more.
Honestly, I hope what I took was NOT the real test. It’d be far too easy for someone to simply memorize the answers to those questions and no others–especially the trivia. (Now if the trivia I saw came out of a pool of hundreds of such questions, it COULD be used as a test of detailed knowledge.)

This came out a couple of years ago and was somewhat memorable. Now that my computer is behaving a little better, I found it again.
Actually, this was meant as a reply to Dora, above, but we all know how that goes…..
The first sequence, with the almost prison-like little windows on the classroom doors, reminded me of a certain junior high school (well, it is now a middle school) in town, that actually looked a lot like a prison from the outside, with very narrow slit windows spaced widely. And knowing someone who attended it shortly after it was built, it might has well have been stuffed with convicts with guards who looked the other way when someone decided to set himself up to be the alpha male. I know someone else who TAUGHT there a couple of years later–he had been forced to transfer there; that’s when he decided to retire.

Very interesting…not up to being a Hall of Records by any means, but, provided those people in the future can still read English, a good idea.
I personally would have had those tablets translated into a dozen widely different languages, in the hopes that one of them would be known to the future people they are addressed to.
The ONLY reason why, today, we can read Ancient Egyptian, is that we found a stone a message on it, a message that had been carved in Greek (known), Demotic (a sort of cursive script for Egyptian, not known), and Hieroglyphics (also not known). Between that and people who knew Coptic, we were able to figure out Ancient Egyptian, and people can now read the vast amounts of carvings still extant in Egypt. (That stone, by the way, is the famous “Rosetta Stone”)
If the future peoples open the box and find a bunch of tablets in there written solely in the long-dead language of 20th century English…they will be silent.

Perhaps they are springs, screws, pins, washers, iron sites, buffer tubes…yada, yada…minor piece parts Betting they are NOT finished lowers. Or even complete uppers.
If it’s China, it could be AKs, too, and the concept of “upper” and “lower” doesn’t apply there. Nor to many other designs.
China makes high quality AK47s, both forged and stamped receivers. Pretty sure they reverse-engineered it 60+ years ago because (for example) the stamped receivers are a mm or two thicker, making them stronger.
They were available for purchase in America until some rifle ban in 1986, IIRC. Both PolyTechnologies (which is the importer) and Norinco AK47s are manufactured in China.
The PolyTechnologies AK47s were available with various colored wood furniture (stocks, handguards, grips), as well as folding stock models. Both stamped and forged receiver type (essentially look and function the same, but forged is heavier).
SUPPOSEDLY the U.S. Navy SEALS tested the product all of the available AK47 manufacturers years ago (for training and/or missions where it would make sense to have one), and the Chinese models were chosen.
So they are very popular with collectors (unavailable in the U.S. since the ban), whereas models from other nations (e.g. Romania, IIRC) are known for being low quality AK47s.
The PolyTechnologies U.S. company is still in business, and parts for the 1986 and earlier rifles sold here in the U.S. way back when are still available:

I was about to post the same thing! Of course people had dreamed about it for centuries, and many considered it impossible…their error was assuming that engineering could not improve. The final constraint proved to be the engine weight. (It’s *still* impossible to have a wood-fired steam engine fly a heavier-than-air aircraft, because of poor energy density and the sheer weight of the engine–though I suppose someone could prove me wrong with whiz-bang composite materials, etc.)
Roosevelt, of course, saw aircraft, but jets were at most a fanciful dream when he died.
I once had the odd sensation of realizing I was listening to Mozart on a car stereo that had no moving parts…Mozart himself could never have imagined the car (though that’s not so big a stretch) or the stereo being able to play music rather than needing to carry an orchestra with you.
That may be one of the things that would surprise someone from the 1700s coming to our age (kidnapped on a time machine, perhaps)…that there can be instrumental music without having anyone around playing instruments. Where’s the band? Being able to play a symphony without being wealthy enough to hire an orchestra would have been inconceivable, and in fact much “classical” music was actually made for much smaller ensembles for that reason. (In fact, one of Star Trek’s most dreadful episodes had Lincoln (a synthetic Lincoln) marveling at music being played on his arrival aboard the Enterprise, with no visible band.)
I often think about the privilege of listening to great music like Mozart’s whenever I want and wherever I am — in my car, etc. — and how restricted people of earlier ages were to have to have musicians present. And now, with digital media, we don’t even have to have a tangible disk or tape to play.
Of course, back in the day many, many people learned to play the piano so they could at least have something. Now how many of them were good enough that you’d listen to them even if you DID have a choice of “sources” of music, is another question entirely.
You’d be surprised…
My Mum’s uncle’s family (in Ireland, and, later, in England) would gather ’round the piano and sing. The Welsh parts of my family did the same, as the Welsh pretty much all sing, to the point that Richard Burton said he was the only Welshman ever who couldn’t sing properly…
With no radio (we’re talking 1890s here), no TV, no internet, no movies (talkies or otherwise), etc., etc., etc., families entertained themselves at home. And often there were one or more musically talented among them, especially considering that families back then were larger, probably on average four or five children (if not 12, as my great-grandfather’s family had).
And despite the “solid-state” music now available, the original source still has (or had) to have been played on real instruments, be they electronic (yuck), cheap (portacellos, et. al.) or normal… Purely synthetic music still is synthetic. And classically-trained musicians can tell the difference…
(I think I owe you a couple of answers on synaesthesia… the one I remember is, I hear tone colors as points sort of in my head, i.e. when I hear yellow-orange as G#, the color is in my head, rather than splaying over the wall next to me, etc. I guess an analogy would be when you read, sometimes you visualize the surroundings, people’s voices, etc., with all that being a point source rather than a projected effect. When you watch Hélène Grimaud, you can see that she’s “seeing” the music… )….
I kind of wonder if John Nash (“A Beautiful Mind”) had the same thing with numbers…

The Royal Family are the House of Hanover, with Queen Mary being Mary of Teck, a city in Baden-Württemberg here in southwest Germany. I can see the remains of “Burg Teck” on a clear day from our upstairs window. Probably was a nice castle back in the day.

I watched part of the first video, and just couldn’t get to the rest on Sunday.
Some of it rings true, like the British crown being bankrupt in 1815 and taking cash from the Rothschilds for one reason or another, and the illegitimacy of various members of the Royals (but not the ones he mentions given facial features passed on. I mean Princess Charlotte looks a lot like the Queen and according to Greg, they aren’t related by blood). On the whole, I don’t buy most of it.

Do you have a large accumulation of cookies and files bogging up the memory and slowing things down? I have to clean out the cookies several times per day to keep it going right. Some sites will put as many as 50 sets of files/cookies on my computer.
I also don’t have any desktop short cuts taking up space/data either. I don’t store music, movies, books on my computer.
All of that can really slow down a computer – but I have never had an iPad. Tried to use one at a doctor’s office and finally made them give me a paper form to fill out! I flunked ipad!

Did you try ‘WP reader version’?
Haven’t figured out how to get that.
You can get to the Reader version by going to your profile at the top right – then look on the top left and it will say reader. It might be the same for ipads.
I was wrong. Got to the continue reading button, click on that and half of the title loads and then stalls or freezes.
I think WP is gunnin for Fleps threads.
Got to the WP reader version. Stalls and freezes 1/2 way through loading the title. Am going to shut down the iPad for a bit. See if that helps. Kind of like the old trick of re-boot. Dunno.
I’m not a technophile – don’t have a smart phone or an ipad – can barely do email and surfing/commenting.

You can download an App from WordPress and read there instead of in a browser. Seems to work a little better for me. But I had to turn off setting that allows twister in order to see his thread too.

God gives us these creatures — horses, and may I add dogs — to help us survive life in a fallen world.
I am always impressed by equestrians doing the musical dressage. Those complex routines really are amazing, involving man and horse working together in true harmony.
On now to dogs. We think of them as pets, but many of those breeds were cultivated by men to help them hunt for other beasts of the field (e.g. game birds) or flora, such as truffles.
They are a blessing to us.
Or to herd (horses and dogs are bred to herd) and protect our herds. Again, donkeys and dogs.
