The draft legislative text implements reforms that the Department of Justice deemed necessary in its June Recommendations and follows a yearlong review of the outdated statute. The legislation also executes President Trump’s directive from the Executive Order on Preventing Online Censorship.

This is a Komodo dragon. They get up to about 10 feet long and 300 lbs.
Though it’s a rare event they have been known to kill and eat humans. More common is mere maiming and hospitalization.

I watch a lot of the Zoo shows. On one there were a brother and sister pair of dragons. Grew up together, best friends all their lives. Suddenly one day he almost killed her for no reason. Claws and jaws, those things are strong and can do SERIOUS damage. Hope Darwin never gets that big!

A bearded dragon in the wild once managed to bite Steve Irwin on the nose. He was face to face with it, it felt threatened, puffed up its beard and turned it black and opened its mouth. Irwin was was lying on the ground, face to face with it, saying “Oooh, you’d better back off or I’m going to bite you” (describing what the lizard was “saying”) and the lizard jumped and bit him.

I read that the way that the Komodo dragon kills it’s prey, is that they bite them, then fall back for awhile.
Their bite is toxic because there is so much bacteria in their saliva, and the prey gets sick and falls down.
Then they go in for the kill.
That’s sort of a good metaphor for the way that the Left operates…

The way I understand it is that they tend not to fight prey. They’ll get in close by stealth and clomp on something, messing up the prey’s mobility. Then when the prey flees, they’ll pursue it in “terminator mode” at a walk while the venom/infection ravages the victim. When the prey is immobile, they’ll feed.
It should be noted that the Gila Monster and its much prettier cousin, the Mexican Beaded Lizard, chomp into prey and gnaw a bit while actual venom flows into the wounds through grooves in their teeth. This is far more primitive than the syringe-like fangs of rattlesnakes and cobras. It is a matter of some debate whether Komodo dragons also produce an actual toxin beyond the septic bacterial conditions in their mouths.
Incidentally, purified and standardized gila monster toxin has identified medical uses.

Their bite contains amazingly little in the way of bacteria; their oral hygiene is pretty good for critters who don’t have toothbrushes. But it turns out that they actually DO have venom and so all those old sources that claim they didn’t…were wrong.
The reason they have a reputation for an infectious bite is that water buffalos that get nipped immediately go to their wallows to soothe the pain…and the wallows are full of water buffalo poo.
And yes, often if the prey is bigger than they are they will wait until it weakens. Smaller prey (like Timor deer) they kill outright.
Komodos succeed in their attempts to kill prey about 90 percent of the time, far more than lions do.
Well…..unlike lions, they generally are hunting on an island. One might suspect that this increases their chances of success.
It’s a large enough island (100 square miles or so) that their prey isn’t “cornered” just from being on the island.
A “pixellated” 100-square-mile island is 10×10. A Komodo willing to pursue for 4 miles is in a substantially better strategic position than a lion in a limitless veldt.
But the prey can turn around and continue endlessly.
Besides, they’re mostly “ambush” type predators, turning on animals that up til now have considered them mere nuisances.

While not Komodo, when I was a child my father happened across a couple of very young fox that had apparently been abandoned by the mother…a male and female. He brought them home, built a large cage enclosure outside with the idea my brother and I would care for them until they were big enough to release. Everything went along splendidly for a few months until one morning we went out to take care of them and found that the male had killed and half-eaten the female. Needless to say, a bit of a shock to us.
We ended up calling the major zoo in our state to see if they were interested in accepting the male and that’s where he ended up spending the rest of his days.
I remember at the time, we were told that the female was probably sickly and that is common among wild animals…have no idea if that was true or not but I think it was to make us feel better about the incident.

Ecclesiastes is my favorite book in the Bible, but I have to confess that the translation being used in the post doesn’t have the same “zing” as the KJV. As a kid, I went through the KJV against the New English Bible (which was based on some hard-core scholarship) in several sections….and, though the plain meaning of the NEB could be affirmatively traced to original texts, it told my younger self that a touch of Divine inspiration was involved in the KJV (except, of course, in the numerous clearly erroneous passages). The KJV reads like poetry, from and to the heart.

I’m going to drill down on a couple of things. First, because it took me forever to do, I’m going to note that certain words are emphasized in the KJV — textually by being presented in italics. One of the more common words to be so emphasized is “is”…..but not all uses of that word get the emphasis. Other words also get the same treatment.
These words change the rhythm of the passage and very subtly influence its meaning. Sheer poetry.
Second, I’d like to highlight the word choice in one verse. KJV: “All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.” Quoted in the post: “All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again.” I would say that the latter translation was somewhat poisoned by hydrology.
In the world of natural observation, springs appear from the earth bearing water. This leads to streams and rivulets, which combine into mighty rivers draining vast areas. In hydrology, rain on mountains flows downhill and permeates loose soils. A certain amount of this is trapped under a layer of clay and later, downhill, breaks out in a spring. All water flows are “streams” and there are atmospheric streams where water vapor from the oceans leads to rain in the mountains.
It is unlikely that Solomon viewed streams as a modern hydrologist would — to him, it is as much a wonder that oceans never fill as that mountain springs provide water. The more recent translation merely illustrates textbook water flow.
And, yet…..isn’t one of God’s greatest Creations a world where He doesn’t have to do outright miracles constantly to keep it running?

I was once told the italics in the Old Testament were for words that weren’t in the original Hebrew. Semitic languages get by without any exact equivalent for the verb “to be”, for example.

The italics denote words that the translators had to insert because a literal translation would have been choppy to our ears without them, like hearing a Russian drop “a,” “an,” and “the” because those words don’t exist in Russian (if you think about it they’re not really necessary). [A Russian has a hard time learning when “the” is appropriate vs. “a/an”, and sometimes when you get a piece of spam mail from a content farm in Russia, that’s the one thing they didn’t get right.] You know what they mean, but it’s not good English. Similarly with the forms of “to be” in English that appear in the Bible. They weren’t there in the original, but the English won’t read smoothly without them.
It has little to do with restoring meter, though of course, often times the meter would be gone without them, but that’s because the translators made sure the final result would have meter and would have done so even if they were directed to leave those words out.
I”m baffled at the idea that literal translations would be sacrificed on the altar of poetic meter.
A truly literal translation would be a struggle for most people to read…that’s the point.
I don’t have the time to look, but I believe the ilalicized words are added for clarity be are not directly in the original translated text.
In the KJV the italics were added to show that the words were not in the original manuscripts but were added to make the meaning more clear. It’s sometimes interesting to try to read the KJV leaving out the italicized words.
Hebrew and Greek are very different languages, and if one were to do a word-for-word gloss (i.e., simply writing the translation for a word directly above it), one would see the word order and phrase construction be totally different, and you’d be struck at just how different it is putting sentences together in those languages. You’d probably initially wonder how on earth they can remember to do it that way and breathe at the same time–but to them it’s normal, and English would look cockeyed.
You’re right, Steve. If people want to get an idea of what Greek and Hebrew word-for-word would be like, you can take a look at Young’s Literal translation, which is based on the textus receptus. The KJV is a much more literal translation than, say, the NIV.
My Father learned Hebrew, Greek and Latin so he could read the more original texts of the Bible when he was in school. It was always fun to watch the Mormons try to argue the Bible with him since I think he had the whole book memorized.
Here’s the thing, being Catholic, I can’t use the King James. There are errors, a lot of them, and things added and the seven Helenistic Canon books missing.
You want to read the two TRULY beautiful books? Ecclesiasticus (Sirach http://drbo.org/chapter/26001.htm) and Wisdom (http://drbo.org/chapter/25001.htm). Those are my faves.
It’s very sad that so many followers of Christ don’t know those books along with Baruch, Tobias (Tobit), Judith and the Maccabbees because Martin Luther decided to switch out the original Old Testament – the one that Christ would have known – the Septuagint with the Masoretic Text of the post-Christ Jerusalem Jews.
And what any one person thinks about this particular subject is usually determined by the source material they are willing to believe.

This allows much more consolidation of control. For example Edward C Johnson 3rd, chairman of the Fidelity Group votes the stock in Monsanto owned by several pension and mutual funds like FMR LLC, FIDELITY MAGELLAN FUND INC, FIDELITY GROWTH COMPANY FUND, and Pyramis Global Advisors. The vanguard Group, aka John C. Bogle, owns another healthy chunk of Monsanto. In this way even more power is concentrated in the hands of a few. This explains the point made in the paper that the amount of power is greater than the amount of wealth can account for.
So facts like “85% of Monsanto is held by mutual funds and Institutional (financial) Holders” while true in that the money originated from pensioners and other little people does not tell the whole story. Yet it is trumpeted by those who want to confuse those trying to follow the money and power trails and misdirect us into thinking the stock is held and voted by pensioners – a complete and utter falsehood.

B) Republicans howled about the lack of money for the Commodity Credit Corporation, on which farmers rely. A revamped bill passed the House in overwhelming fashion Tuesday night. But it’s not clear when the Senate will tackle the plan.
C) However, Fox is told that once the Senate takes up the bill, it’s doubtful the Senate will have to bounce it back to the House. The Senate would essentially accept the House’s version.
That said, they are running out of time.
D) The House and Senate will not be in session on Monday due to Yom Kippur. The Senate is not in session tomorrow. That leaves only Tuesday and Wednesday next week – especially if there’s a problem (which we are not expecting at this point).
E) The government is funded through 11:59:59 pm et on September 30 (next Wednesday). The interim bill would fund the government through December 11. Keep in mind that most Republicans preferred a shorter time-span.
F) If President Trump loses and the GOP loses control of the Senate, Republicans can still influence policy in the next round of spending. That would not be as likely if the interim bill ran until early next year – an end date preferred by Democrats

Looking into my crystal ball here… I see a shorter and better remedy …
1) POTUS announces his nominee for SCOTUS at 5:00 pm on Saturday at his scheduled Rally.
2) On Tuesday (Senate will observe Yom Kippur on Monday) the Senate will pass the House interim bill which will fund the government through December 11 (present funding ends September 30). Or, they drag their discussion out until Wednesday, when they do pass it.
3) Having taken care to see that the government will be funded beyond election day, Nov. 3rd, the Republican senators will now bring POTUS’ nominee for SCOTUS to the floor for confirmation. THERE WILL BE NO HEARINGS.
4) I predict that POTUS’ nominee will be confirmed and installed in time for the next term of Court, which is Monday, October 5th.
There is NO Constitutional requirement for hearings… which have only been ‘tradition’ since 1916 when President Woodrow Wilson picked his aide Louis Brandeis for a spot on the court. (Brandeis was the first Jew to be nominated). Even then the nominee did not appear at the hearings. There have been at least a dozen confirmed without hearings since then.
VPOTUS Mike Pence has called for (first I think on Lou Dobbs program) this present vacancy to be filled with NO hearing. I think it will be done, regardless of the moanin’ and groanin’ by the commie left…

This won’t fly (no pun intended) with a lot of us. I love Kristi Noem — but killing an animal just because you get a charge out of shooting is something I will never understand. More than a sufficient amount of animals have already given the gift so that we might eat. I have relatives in East Texas that are overrun with boar — that’s a reason to hunt. And please don’t start with the culling the herd nonsense. No one is going out there looking for the old sickly one to hang on the wall.

Where’d you get that idea?? All the bird hunters I know generally have dogs that retrieve. People eat the birds for food. Ducks, dove, cornish hens, pheasant, grouse (prairie chicken), etc… Responsible hunters eat what they kill. Governor Noem is pretty responsible, to assume she’s killing for the heck of it in this short video is a stretch. It is the start of bird hunting season after all.

We got some SERIOUS Texas boys, always something in season and they take full advantage of it. Have their licenses and getting their gear ready, months in advance. Off season, back to FISHING, boats, trucks, and sports of every kind. One nephew just spent over $12k on a pedigreed ‘hunting’ puppy. No telling how much training costs! $20K dog before it’s all said and done??🙄
There was nothing in that clip to indicate ANYTHING about where the pheasant would ultimately wind up, one way or another. And the very same point could have been made – the same mood set – at a range, or where you shoot something flying through the air out of a machine. The whole thing was very cavalier. As I said in another comment, there’s a reason you no longer see Eric or Don Jr. standing over dead animals that they’ve shot. If you need the meat, go get it. If you’re just baiting deer and drinking beer, it’s a different story.
My father was a hunter and was very responsible. He never hunted more than for a big Sunday meal. His friends were the same. He loved animals and we often walked the woods specially in winder after it snowed to watch animals tracking where they walked.
I see often more abuse toward animals from people in suburbs with their dogs and cats and tying up their dogs in chains no dog house summer and winter.
I do not hunt but when I can get venison I am happy to prepare.
Do understand people who do not like hunting and they have all my respect. I also understand hunters who are responsible. Here in Appalachia many people would starve is they were not hunting getting meat they hunt. They are proud people would never take handouts.

Last point and I’m done. Would you be so forgiving if she chose to kill a deer for a TV shoot? And you see it go down, then she finished the shoot talking while holding it’s head off the ground. Birds don’t generate the same feelings. They die instantly, they don’t wander around for days with an arrow through their neck from some fool that doesn’t know what he’s doing. There’s a reason all those outdoor shows go from the shot to the animal dead on the ground — they don’t show you what happens in-between.

I don’t care to hunt and fish, but I have a lot of relatives who do. Here in STL county, the COUNTY has a program in the fall to thin the herd of deer. THOUSANDS of head are culled and a local butcher processes the meat which is then sent to the food banks to be distributed to the poor. Otherwise, the damage to private property would be in the billions every winter.
People who really are serious about hunting and fishing don’t kill just to kill. When some relatives had a clubhouse on a lake and fishing was an all weekend affair, only certain sizes were kept. The rest were thrown back. I’ve known hunters who pass on does with a fawn. That’s just part of smart conservation.
If someone needs that venison as a supplement for the family, by all means go get it. But to put out sweet feed for bait, and just mow down an animal for the hell of it is just cringeworthy.
My husband has an uncle who is consumed by hunting. He eats NOTHING. He hunts to put trophies on a wall. I have no idea whether he donates the meat. But his next big thing is bear – and I’ve never heard of that being eaten apart from in the movies.

I became a vegetarian for 15 years after watching a TV documentary how large chicken processing plants kill chicken and process them. This experience was disgusting worse thing I ever have seen. Worse than hunting. The inhumanity is incredible in slaughter houses.

My grandmother had chickens but she was kind to them. I have seen her kill them even pigs but it was different. Used to go fishing as kid and was shown how to kill them after they are caught so they do not suffer.
As a Texas outdoorsman who shot his first deer at age 8 and has hunted/fished all over America for over 5 decades, I know just how you feel. The rule is as simple as it is ironclad…you don’t kill what you don’t intend to eat. PERIOD. Full stop.

This was clearly a professionally guided PHEASANT hunt (a bird considered a true DELICACY) and there were at LEAST 5 sets of eyeballs that marked that downed bird (the gov., her guide, the cameraman, and at least 2 other shooters). No way was that rooster shot and left to lay.

For a bird, about 50 yards…IF….you are A) absolutely spot on in aim, B) shooting a 12 gauge, C) shooting a 3 inch shell (or better), D) using a full choke, and E) throwing #4 lead….none of which you understand or know anything about, as evidence by your comment.

As The Epoch Times’ Sarah Le reports, California officials said it may take until Jan. 27, 2021, for the state’s Employment Development Department (EDD) to work its way through a massive backlog of unemployment cases accumulated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The EDD implemented a “two week reset” starting Sept. 19 to address the issue, among others, and said the agency would stop accepting new unemployment claims during that time.
The reset takes place after months of delays in processing applications and allegations of rampant fraud. The move provoked outrage among some state politicians.
The state has about 600,000 unemployment applications more than 21 days old that have not yet been processed, according to the EDD. Another 1 million Californians have received payments from the state, but have since modified their claims and are awaiting a review to continue receiving benefits.

I had 2 Aussies. Bro & Sis. She was a hyper frisbee dog, he was a herder. He herded me one time, and pulled my shorts down. Thank God I was in the house. When he was outside, he would go from window to window as I moved through the house. Always had his eye on me. She was a disaster, always took off running, and of course he would follow. When they were little, they got lots of whippings for that. Especially when I found them outside the subdivision on a main 4 lane road!! Scared me to death. They never went that direction again!! After she died, I learned that I could leave him free in the front yard and he wouldn’t leave me. I could go inside for 30min, come back and he’d be at the door waiting. He was a good boy.

Bringing back the memories. 20 weeks gestation was when we first learned that Josiah wasn’t growing well. When the twins were born at 33 1/2 weeks gestation he was 2# 6oz while his twin was 5# 4oz, normal size for gestational age. We never were pressured to abort though they did pressure me for amniocentesis which I refused to reduce the risk to the babies. God is good & the twins are creeping up on their 24 birthdays in a few months!
I hope the image shows of the baby w/ the NG tube (nasal-gastric), for that takes me back to J’s infancy too though he wasn’t ever chubby as a baby nor that size for many months…those were some crazy days…
Whoops, I just saw the picture from the original article & it wasn’t an NG tube but a nasal cannula for oxygen. Josiah had one of those in the NICU (but not Brandon!) though his only needed “room air”. I’d been getting weekly hormone shots, celestone, to help with the twins’ lung development from probably that 20 week OB visit. Both twins had bouts of jaundice in the NICU so that came back a bit with Josiah’s recent jaundice “episode” with the liver rejection–doing better now, though still a bit present, as climbing out from that liver injury is a many month process…

I was actually in my brother’s rainbow colored wedding, as “orange”, one of my worst colors (I’m like a “winter” w/ deep jewel tones but nothing in the yellow arena works for me). We had to get our dresses made–a 2-piece long skirted boxy 2″wide strapped top, for an outdoor August wedding. Well since I was pregnant with twins my seamstress made both parts with Plenty of room to grow. Let’s put it this way, when I waddled down the aisle the phrase “the big peach whale” came to mind for many observers! That’s a phrase that occasionally gets resurrected between my husband & I…
My twin brothers are numbers 3 and 4 out of five. The youngest, the spoiled rotten little $#!+, was two weeks late and almost nine pounds. My mom’s doctor at the time told her that after carrying twins for as long as she did, she could carry a single baby forever.
Anyway, as I am the oldest, I can still remember my mother on the couch with the pillows from her bed on either side of her nursing the twins.
Ah, those “good old days”!!! Sorry that you have to deal with Spoiled Brat siblings, grrr. My oldest thought we Really spoiled Josiah because we didn’t always punish him to the same degree, as in we tolerated his inappropriate behavior longer & to a larger degree than the other kids, even before we knew he was on the autism spectrum. The oldest thought it wasn’t fair that J got away with so much. I tried to explain that J would have basically Lived In Timeout if we put him there for all the infractions our other kids did time for…
I’m not saying we did it right for there were/are Many pitfalls to parenting. I do know that None of our kids are spoiled brats, thankfully. In fact we don’t technically have a “baby” of the family. Our daughter is the youngest kid & she started to surpass Josiah developmentally in early elementary school. So ironically for Josiah & Clarissa they are both the “youngest” sibling in a certain manner of speaking & a big brother/sister depending on the context.
I carry A Lot of guilt about how I did or did not handle my parenting responsibilities. In my weakness my kids became stronger. One of them recounted how they were the only kid in their own class that packed their own lunch. They also All learned how to do their own laundry when pretty young…
I was given a “horseshoe” shaped twin nursing pillow from someone from our church who’d had twins a few years before me. I never got to use it nursing Both babies. By the time Josiah came home from the hospital from his 1st heart surgery he was no longer allowed to drink breast milk. I think I still used the horseshoe thing & would nurse Brandon on one side & support tiny Josiah on the other while giving him his bottle, then I’d switch sides. When my husband was home in the evenings & weekends he’d often give J the bottle while I fed B–crazy days.
I don’t remember my own mom nursing my brothers, I’m the oldest too, & was 6 when the baby bro was born. I do recall taking a doll & pretending to nurse it when I was pretty young so likely that behavior was from watching my mom.
My mom was an RN & used to teach labor & delivery classes in our home. I can vaguely remember couples coming over for Lamaze classes & she had this Huge Flip Chart in black & white showing the birthing process in stages–great stuff for kids to process–Not!!! 😉
For the record, though I love both of my brothers, it would be Torture to still have to live with Either of them!!! It’s challenging enough when we’re together Up North for summer holiday weekends, so I feel for you!!!
No longer allowed to drink breast milk sounds like the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard about breast feeding. I may be out of order here but my kid’s mother would have ignored such advice and I would have backed her up. She believed that breast milk is God’s kid food.

After Josiah had open heart surgery at 2 months of age & 4 pounds they said he couldn’t properly metabolize breast milk & was leaking “kylous fluid” (whatever that means) from his post-op chest tube. At that point they made him drink a combo of Portagen & Moducal & MCT oil, at least that’s what they ordered for us to feed him at home.
Up to & immediately following heart surgery he was getting my “mommy milk’ w/ “human milk fortifier” & MCT oil. Who knows if he properly metabolized that then, but they didn’t have a chest tube drainage specimen to analyze until after surgery…
I’m thankful that he got 2 months of milk even though he only ever got a couple swallows from directly nursing, as he was mostly too weak to latch on. Without modern medicine Josiah would have probably died in the womb or shortly after birth. He may have died after birth if he’d been born in Northern Michigan, where we lived at the time, instead of in Metro Detroit where we were visiting family & the high-rist OB doctor deliberately induced me to ostensibly save “the little guy’s” life. Some unfortunate family lost a set of twins Up North in that same timeframe tragically…
My son was already in congestive heart failure at 2 months prior to the open heart surgery to put a Gore-Tex patch on a pretty sizable VSD (ventricular septal defect–hole in the wall between the 2 lower heart chambers). He’s had A Lot of medical intervention over the years & only Some of those nearly 20 surgical needs were known about early on…

I once read a book called Expecting Adam, written by a highly educated woman who chose to bring her Down’s Syndrome son to birth. She was a professor, perhaps at Harvard, & suffered A Lot of judgement by her peers for that Choice. Ironically she wasn’t personally Pro-Life, nor did she have much of a faith perspective, iirc, yet she recounted many ways that Adam’s life profoundly & positively impacted her & many around them. If only people would have eyes to see, ears to hear, & hearts to understand!!!
