We’re watching the movie extravaganza of the year play out in all its ugliness, including a host of villains that well deserve the gallows and a tidal surge of putrid swamp ‘Rats that can easily engulf the unwary. The futures of our country and families are of paramount importance in this constitutional crisis that, understandably, consumes the attention of anyone who is aware of the possible ramifications.
But . . . is this the overwhelming crisis of the day? Well, no it isn’t. That designation continues to belong to the overall battle between good and evil in this world. Our current political battle for survival is but a skirmish in world-level hostilities. . . . hostilities in which we must choose sides and thereby the future of our very souls. There is no middle ground. We can’t choose not to choose and thereby not align ourselves with one side or the other. We must choose one side or the other and either suffer or enjoy the consequences of losing or winning.
This is the paramount battle, a spiritual battle, and a constant reminder that we are not of this world, but, as Christians, are permanent and eternal residents of a different location.
We are but sojourners and exiles and “our citizenship is in heaven, from where also we await for our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our body of humiliation, so that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working of His power even to subdue all things to Himself.”
This is a perspective that we must keep well in mind as the current crisis attempts to drag us through the mud, rocks and ditches of our path here on Earth, because our real war has been won and we are more than conquerors on our way to our eternal victory celebration.
We should be feeling a strong sense of dissatisfaction with our temporary position among the struggles here on earth and also a longing to come home to our family in its rightful spiritual dwelling.
Those feelings remind me of a couple of old-time songs that have, for many years, portrayed the same feelings.

I’ve stayed at the Brown Palace in Denver — https://www.shorpy.com/node/25934 — although a few years after this picture. If anyone remembers the film “The Unsinkable Molly Brown”, this is her hotel. I was there to attend a conclave of Grant Thornton IT bigwigs to determine the direction of Grant Thornton’s IT strategy, and was probably one of the most junior of the roughly 100 people to attend. OTOH, I knew PCs.
On the first day, there was a bunch of shuffling around and everyone got their coffee. I drink tea. So, I mentioned to the staff that I’d like some.
Once everyone had coffee and sorted themselves out and sat around a large loop of tables, the organizers started doing organizing speeches — thanking us all for being there, anointing decisionmakers, slathering on the butter. And the doors at one end of the hall banged open, and a steward entered pushing a tea tray.
At least two of the wheels weren’t properly lubricated, so the tea tray went squeak-SQUEAK-squeak-SQUEAK as long as it was rolling in a straight line. When it turned a corner, it went SQUEAK-SQUEAK-squeak, or squeak-squeak-SQUEAK, depending on which direction it was turning. Regardless of direction, the tea tray squeaked its way over to me. I thanked the staffer, poured my hot water, and set my tea to steep. After which, the tea tray squeaked its way out of the room.
I’m not going to go into any details of the substantive discussions that subsequently occurred — but, in my early 20’s, that was one of the first times I had to just brazen my way through an embarrassing situation. So the Brown Palace has an emotional significance to me.

The problem, however, is that they have RIGGED the recount rules at the state levels to prevent discovery of fraud. So we will have to strategize around that. They’re sitting there on the installation disk and available, but no, you have to wipe and re-install.

And then you have the next issue which is now the votes are on the flash drive , how does that flash drive get to the county commissioner or whoever is assigned to accept the flash drive. IS THE SAME FLASH DRIVE BEING SENT OVER? You can swap the flash drive theoretically, there is no accountability there. And once the county commisioner or whoever accepts that flash drive, do you trust them not to go in and edit the contents before they report it.

OANN: And that is exactly what happened in Philadelphia just one month before the election. USB drives and a laptop had been stolen from a key precinct in Philadelphia. On election day Biden over took Trump’s 800,000 vote lead in the dark of night. According to these tabulating machines Biden surpassed Trump by nearly 60,000 votes state wide. A lead found in one county. A county in which a thief stole USB eys and a laptop to the precinct’s ballot machines a month prior.

Is that good or bad?
Long-term consequences are uncertain, IMO, for this type of vaccine (mRNA). Assuming there are no hidden contraceptive, abortive, or sterilization EFFECTS or COMPONENTS, then the only risk is long-term mRNA risks, which are not well-known in humans, IMO, but are still LOW (but are potentially serious – cancer, immune problems).
For the nursing home crowd, I think this vaccine (Pfizer) is a no-brainer YES. Even if they were sabotaged to sterilize, no problem. Even if long-term cancer or immune problems, no problem. Likewise for the seriously comorbid, no problem.
I personally would consider the Pfizer vaccine due to my comorbidities and age, although I currently prefer the Novavax entry.
Novavax is PROTEIN-BASED, not mRNA, so those long-term risks of cancer and immune disorders are GONE, IMO. It is by design more conservative, less risky. Provide that it is INJECTED and not a “skin marking UUID vaccine” using a tattooing grid (I refuse on both Christian and Jewish grounds to be tattooed with a number, however that is done), then for me it is probably a no-brainer.
Both Pfizer and Novavax are designed to circumvent immune enhancement, and have my SCIENTIFIC THEORETICAL CONFIDENCE, and since the observations look good, then once these are tested in people who already had COVID-19, and are “short-term safe”, then I will gladly take either one.

I have a 2011 macbook pro with High Sierra 10.13.6 but to keep it working right, I have to manually eliminate all but the pertinent cookies/files frequently each day if I’m surfing around a lot.

Yeah, this has been going on for a couple of months now. I think something about his new cage is the issue, because when I boarded him with someone else for a few days to take a road trip, he did his thing every day without fail.
This may sound implausible, but magnetic fields from dirty electricity in wiring can affect the health of small creatures. A friend of mine with an extremely old home added line filters to reduce the noise in their wiring. The breeding pair of Amazon birds that had not produced any chicks for years began nesting and they got two new chicks that year. So maybe look for sources of environmental stress. That could include proximity to sources of wireless emissions like smart meters or even switching transformers which do emit microwave frequencies. But low frequency noise seems to be a big issue. I’ve heard(second hand) from a vet about cats getting hyperthyroidism from dirty electricity in a home.
Well, none of those specific factors are an issue here but that doesn’t mean you’re not basically on the right track.
Actually, the simplest thing that has occured to me is that maybe the light source in his new cage, being higher than the old one (because the new cage is taller) isn’t quite warm enough to, shall we say, get things moving reliably. Lizards don’t have internal thermostats like we do, so if he just can’t warm up enough, he’s going to have trouble. So I’m going to add a second light bulb and maybe just put it on a two hour timer. I’ll start it just after feeding; he basks right after eating to help his digestion (that’s an instinctual behavior).
Now that makes a lot of sense right there!
My electric bill looks forward to yet another thing that generates heat from electricity (a hideously inefficient thing to do).

A lead found in one county. A county in which a thief stole USB eys and a laptop to the precinct’s ballot machines a month prior.

This is what our male dog, Yang, looks like when we do his nails. He takes shots like a champ, but cut his nails, and you’re taking your life in your hands.
Easy fix, but ya gotta start when they are young. As puppies:
1. Regularly handle and pet their paws. Get them accustomed to regular touching and frequent handling of these sensitive body parts. This is not a normal part of a dog that people touch.
2. use a nail file and gently run it upon the dog’s nails…not to actually file the dog’s nails, but to get the dog used to the sensation of the file on it’s nail AND the use of a tool close to and upon the dog’s nails. This should be done multiple times a day, every day, in the first few weeks of ownership as a puppy (normally starting at age 8 weeks).
3. Very quickly the dog will come to understand it is not being harmed and can trust that the handling of it’s paws is ok.
CAVEAT!!!!!
like humans, dogs nails have cuticles, which means that if you cut the nail too short you can cut into the quick and this is painful and can cause bleeding. This can destroy the dog’s trust that you have worked so hard to build up. It is important to remember that leaving a dogs nails a little longer rather than cutting them short in order to ensure that they are never harmed and never experience pain in your handling their paws/trimming nails is very important because all the hard work and trust built up in the steps above can be easily ruined with one bad quick cut.
Follow these steps and important precaution and you will never have to fight with your dog to cut their nails. BONUS: your vet will see you as a pro pet owner.

Giving treats during the training helps for recalcitrant pups. Pavlov’s trick is useful for all manner of desired responses for a given issue. They will ALWAYS want the treat. ALWAYS. Make them earn it. Show it to them, then make them understand what is required to get it.
If this and the above does not work, the problem lies with the handler/owner, not the dog.

Excellent advice with a couple of additions: Some dogs have long quicks and others have short quicks. If you have a dog with long quicks, it helps to trim the toenails about once a week, “tipping” them. If a dog has longer nails, you can do more trimming. If your dog has light colored nails, you can see where the blood vessel is. There’s a protective sheath between the vessel and the nail, it’s thin.
I have trimmed I don’t know how many dogs toenails, and had dogs that would let no one else but me do their nails.

“The central messaging that many Democratic candidates felt obligated to adopt (because they believed that funding and other support from Democratic organizations was contingent on it) doesn’t work,” he said.

Question: Why Does Trader Joe’s count the people going in so you have to wait in line. When you finally make it inside (yeah) why do you have to give them your cart and stand back 6 feet while they scan and bag your stuff and THEN you can walk up and pay for it….

They dont count at target of the grocery stores atm here. But marshalls and home goods they do. A significant number if keft keaning places, such as TJoes, are all in. Theres a store chain near me, organic, that is nasty about it. Also Sprouts is bad too, throughout the whole company.

Costco is way expensive. The 1 service i like is photo, and pizza. Otherwise, pricing oer ounce, theres little difference from grocery stores. I have frequently found even higher prices. I havent been in Costco for a year now.
Costco practically gives me hives. Everything you lob into the giant car is about $10…10,10,10 before you know it there’s $300 worth of mega size items.

Costco can be pricey for someone not watching the price per once or whatever the measure is. . I shop the specials and sales. Easy return policy.

I went into Costco yesterday, wanted to see what vitamins they had. Saw the stupid notice about face shields. There were “sample” carts out too – with sample people behind plexiglass dividers around them, the sample displayed but of course that’s all it was – a display. Totally nuts. It’s only the second time I’ve been in the regular Costco since all WuFlu crap started except for going to the business Costco twice.
Not going to go back soon. I prefer going to Winco, they have the best bulk section I’ve seen.

You can pay for a costco “gift card” and use it to get into the store … without a membership … and you can add money to it if you like to buy their gas or food court items.

I only go to Trader Joes once in a while (every 3 months or so) for the White Ginger Pear tea and the large extra dark chocolate bars.
If I could get the stuff elsewhere I would.
Amazon is probably pricey for those items delivered.
Check Aldi. They use the same suppliers as Trader Joe’s (Aldi and Trader Joe’s have a weird ownership arrangement with each other) and their generics have gone up in quality. Whatever the Aldi dark chocolate bar is called (I don’t remember the name) is surprisingly okay for the price.
Thanks for the tip. Trader Joe’s is about 30 miles away while we just had an Aldi’s move into the closest town ~12 miles away. I have only shopped there twice so far.
I’m a big fan of Aldi these days. Trader Joe’s was losing me pre-COVID while Aldi stepped up their generic game and meets most of my needs this day. Aldi and TJ’s have this weird partnership where they’re both owned by same German family, but one part runs Aldi and the other runs TJ’s. It’s why their generic brand products are similar. Anyways, the Aldi chocolate bars are worth trying (they’re on an end-cap in my store off near the produce, not sure about other stores). If you go there during their German week, try the Jaffa cakes. Try their generics (I’ve liked about 90% of the stuff I’ve tried); they’ve got a generous return policy if you don’t like it.
ALDI Nord (the northern half of ALDI in Germany) own Trader Joes. So things that appear at ALDI can appear over at TJ’s and vice-versa. Some years ago I got Warsteiner Beer cheaper at TJ’s than I do over here!
I think TJ’s sells Ghiradelli chocolate; not sure if that’s what ALDI has, but it’s good stuff (at least back in the day; we used to go caroling at Christmas time, even on the BART train, and end up at Ghirardelli Square with their hot chocolate… those were the days)…
One thing to note is the two brothers who owned ALDI (hence the north and south division) have both passed on, so the next generation leans somewhat leftward. Over here they’re rabidly into VEGAN and “like meat” and all that crap. Could be that Merde-Kuh is forcing that…. grrrr….
i only by selected items at TJ also. I have not been there for months . Yes dark chocolate is good I buy nuts some other things like tomato paste in tubes.
I stopped by a Trader Joe’s a few months ago, saw that they had a 15-minute line to get in, and walked away immediately. Haven’t been back since. They’re the only store in my area that still forcing people to wait in lines just to get in.

My experience has been that the larger the city, the worse the head counting and other issues. I live near both a large city and a number of smaller cities. Going to the same chain grocery store in the small cities is a pleasant, no hassle experience. So I’d say, it’s not the brand, it’s the local enforcement/mentality driving the insanity.

On a good day, without Covid, IMO, big cities are a zoo.
I don’t shop at TJ’s or Aldi because they are foreign owned. We have two very good local chains that contribute A LOT of product to the local hunger relief system, so that’s where I shop. The quality of a lot of the product is higher, as well.
And if you do it right, using a freezer for meat when it is on sale, you can spend roughly the same amount of $$.
The other thing I have found, is that one of the chains’ house brand – all organic – is actually cheaper than name brand offerings that isn’t. The one exception is grains which are 4x more expensive.
All optics. It looks like they’re sooooo very caring and all about YOU, their valued customer. The only people who actually think this worksand can’t see the issue with still going up to the must-be-covid laced checkout area are truly dumbells.

Yesterday I talked to our mailman. He’s very upset with Amazon because of the terrible contract has with the post office. The following is what he told me:
Amazon pays a flat rate for the packages, it’s the same price for every package, no matter the size. He opened up the back of his mail vehicle, and it was stuffed with boxes from Amazon. He says that the smaller packages Amazon delivers themselves, and the post office the larger ones. He knows the post office is losing a lot of money by the terrible deal that they have with Amazon. He says the other mail services won’t touch Amazon with a ten foot pole. He’s upset that the pension plan is possibly going to be cut, it’s why he decided to work there. He thinks the contract with Amazon should be scrapped.
I just let him talk and listened. Now the packages he had were a lot of the same size, 2′ X 1′ X 1 or 1.5? (I’m terrible at estimating sizes and distances, I need a tape measure.) Anyway they were a standard size box that amazon uses. I think Amazon’s business has increased so much that they are scrambling to be able to deliver all the items that are ordered. 1. They were (and maybe still are) selling delivery territories to people- People buy an area, use their own vehicle for delivery, and are paid by amazon to deliver it. I saw a brand new delivery truck with Amazon on it the other day as well, larger that a regular passenger style van but not as big as an UPS van.
Wouldn’t it be funny if Amazon had all their assets tied up because they’ve been providing cloud storage space to Scytl?

IIRC, about a year ago, there was a story that Amazon was walking away from US and or FedEx, in favor of Amazon’s organic delivery service.
So, some or all of the Amazon delivery service is selling delivery areas, not managing delivery, directly – Amazon trucks, employees, etc.
Any more I think Amazon is getting over the public with their Prime Two Day service commonly not met. They blame increased package volume. That is their problem o ramp up capacity, delivery vehicles and staff.

And yes I actually calculated it in 1990. We paid 64.5% in overt taxes and that doesn’t include the 151 taxes on a loaf of bread — over 1/2 the cost. So you can then figure 1/2 the 35.5% you get to keep goes towards those hidden taxes.
