My lovely day included two hours in dental chairs, one of which practically inverted (filling on upper molar). I’m only just recovering now.
But were the drugs good?

Yeah….even today, the technician assisting my dentist was, “you’re the guy who did the crowns.” She was there for two of them.
The funny thing is, I did it that way because it was easier. And it really was easier. A phobia is a tightly constrained form of mental illness…..if it made any sense, it wouldn’t be a phobia. And the phobia I have for hypodermics is extreme. If you tell me “it’s so tiny, you’ll barely feel it”, you will not only get my usual reaction (rigor, shock, lack of breathing), but might also get me to vomit in advance. By contrast, pain is just pain. For blood draws, I have frequently advised that they use whatever will work most quickly.
I’ve had people tell me that I was “brave” for doing the crowns. No, the crowns were a reasonable trade-off. I was brave for allowing blood-draws for 14 consecutive annual physicals (and scaring a few phlebotomists) before I got Xanax for such occasions. One time, I was talking to the phlebotomist beforehand and saying that I’d better lie down and we needed to get some things straight, and she said, “oh, don’t worry, you’ll do fine — we had one patient that went completely rigid and didn’t breathe for three solid minutes.” I had to inform her that was me, the previous year.
The most important instruction I have for these technicians is to say, “I’m out.” I can move, my brain can reboot, all phobic loops can terminate, and I can recover in just a couple of minutes. I really can’t feel the needle very well — the phobia is driven by knowing about it.
Only in the last two years have I had the Xanax alternative. It’s never been a question of the pain, and it was very, very strange to go, “oh, there’s a needle in my arm” while still feeling mostly normal.
We had a patient who had a full on cardiac arrest EVERY FUCKING TIME HE GOT A NEEDLE,
OK, he’s had it worse than I do. But I can see his backyard from my porch. Xanax, by mouth, about 30 minutes before.
We used to give my daughter 20 mg of Valium when she weighed 20 kg for dental visits but he remained feral. We switched to rohypnol and worked her way up to 6 mg. Even then she would say fuck you to the dentist and both of us had to restrain her.

I used Benadryl before going to the dentist or doctor for years. I also had most of my teeth drilled without the needle.
My big problem is BLOOD. I helped a vet all day long putting a tube down the nose of fifty horses. (Many bloody noses) After the last horse some six hours later I went into a dead faint. The vet could not believe I waited until all the horses had been tube wormed to faint! I figured it was nice to know I could focus on the job to be done well enough to block out my phobia at least for a while.
I’m pretty sure the vet was WTF? Why now?
That’s very interesting. Do you let them use a surface infiltration anesthetic? That can help some.

I’ll have to remember that if I ever need something substantial, however.
I had an old school doc once who never did injections without thoroughly basting the area in powerful surface anesthetics, so I never felt the injections as anything but pressure on my head when the syringe body was butting up against my jaw. I simply never felt anything like a needle. Granted, he was a master of nerve anatomy, so he knew how to deaden signals all the way down to the deepest point of the injection site.
Downside was that my whole mouth felt like a black hole of nothing, and the stuff drips back, so the entire back of the throat can go numb, too.
It won’t work as well on a person who degrades anesthetics rapidly, but if you’re NOT one of them, then you get massive cottonmouth but no pain.
Again, with a phobia, all sorts of things are flipped on their heads. Putting a hypodermic near my mouth causes massive anxiety on each occasion, even if I never feel an injection. If I know an injection is taking place, things go to 11, whether I can feel them or not.
By contrast, I have a decent pain tolerance.
A lot of modern medicine is “we’ll establish an IV saline drip, and use it for…..”, which assumes it will be no big deal. In the near future, I’m going to need surgery for a herniated umbilicus. It’s a routine procedure that can be competently performed by second year med students with a B average or above…..but I need the anesthesiologist to be experienced and canny. I need to ensure, beyond the least uncertainty, that I won’t be needled before I’m unconscious or after I wake up — because the freakout over being punctured would likely cause more damage than the surgery.
Wow. I’m very thankful for that nurse when I was a kid, who said if I laughed, I would enjoy shots. She was right.

My phobia of needles ( had one break in my arm at 3yrs) was pretty much over as stuck so many times…except for dentist.
Still go rigid and freak out when at dentist.
When I was a child there was no local and I have deep grooves in my teeth so every time I got a new tooth, (adult), it had to be filled. He used to yell at me to stay still because it was close to the nerve. Nowadays they just use crevice seal. No drilling required.
Even as a kid I knew he was a psych. He had a picture of a bull fight in his waiting room with the spears in the bull and blood running down its shoulders. Very apropos

Wow! Over here (I’m tempted to say the land of Mengele) it’s become a bit trendy to not use anaesthetic (or very little thereof) at the dentist, but it takss a lot of guts. Then, on the other hand, ya gotta’ do what ya gotta’ do. When my son was in extended intensive care (had 23 auto-drips or whatever you call them at one time (!)), he was never very thrilled to get the extra ones (hands, foot) replaced. His “roommate”, on the other hand, looked forward to the daily blood draws (he didn’t have all the drips). We wonder if he’s a junkie now 🙂 (or a doctor, who knows?).

I was beginning to lose hope! However, Lin Wood saved me this evening. He has the goods when it comes to the fraud that occurred in Georgia. These MORONS used an NBA arena that is full of cameras throughout the arena and on the outside of the arena. I personally believe Lin has the videos that he is asking for in his subpoena. I think it is all there on tape. They LIED about the water leak in order to stop the count and produce the necessary ballots in order to swing the state.
Problem for them is that there was no such leak and everything they did from that point forward was caught on tape. If this revelation turns out to produce proof of fraud, than the tide has been completely turned. Keep in mind that those arenas were used in other states as well.

Well. There it is. From our good pal Xi pushing it, no less. Funny how Xi said this on Saturday, and hey presto! Quantas’ CEO makes this announcement on Monday, less than 48 hrs later.
So, within the industry, the next obvious question is….how long before they require the CREWS to be vaccinated or be terminated? And, if all airlines have the crew requirement, how can one change jobs if a pre-requisite for a job offer is proof of being vaccinated? Will the unions stand up to this, or will they fold like the cheap suits that represent the pilot geoups?
And more…..how quickly do they intend for this spread to other industries and occupations? Healthcare. Service (restaurants, grocery stores, etc.). Hospitality. Etc. Etc.

This is one vector they used to split the pilot groups/airlines into mainline and regional airlines, creating two classes of pilots (denoted by wage), and subsequently pit pilot group vs. pilot group such that all pilots, as a whole community, are not and cannot be unified against one or more of the airlines.

Reality is MOST US crews, mainline or regional, are pros at what they do. So fly with confidence in that regard. Same goes for the western block (national) airlines. It’s not the crews or the quality of same that is the issue.

When we flew into Saint Petersburg (RU), we flew FinnAir, even though their inflight lunch was inedible crustless sandwiches with weird unidentifiable fillings and the flight cost more.

Here we can argue and kvetch, but I have come to know that you are a consummate professional. If I were on one of your flights, I would feel confident that I was in good hands.

YW! The zip file of the site is actually pretty fast, but I’ve already had the media file transfer crash on me twice. So what I’m going to do is ask for authors not to add any new images to the media bucket – that way, when I finally get that to run, that will be the last time. And what this means is that we can do a 100% transfer with a downtime likely under an HOUR.

Finally got all of our media. It looks like WordPress.com limits media exports to 300 MB (0.3 GB), and it cuts out every time the browser downloads about that much. So I switched from Brave (starts over at 0 every time) to Firefox (tries to save as much work as possible), and I was able to get all of the media in 6 attempts!

My grandma inherited her parents’ trailer in the late 60’s so they were snowbirds for about a decade until grandma died & then grandpa never went back. They were in a retirement community in the Bradenton area. The one time we visited was also the one time I got mumps! It was the first time I’d seen the ocean & my parents wouldn’t let me swim in it because of my illness, what a huge bummer for a kid…
My grandparents had a mobile home in a park in Bradenton. My parents bought it later on and wintered there for several years. The park was just off of U.S. 41, and north of Cortez Ave.
I spent the winter of 1979-1980 there after getting laid off off from my job back in Michigan. I loved going to the Palmetto flea market. Anna Marie Island was a regular stop. I survived Tin Pan Alley!
Nice. My grandparents trailer park was called “Jet Park” I think, but I don’t know more about locations for I was in grade school then. That MI layoff have to do w/ the auto industry? We lived in Ford Country in Metro Detroit & a lot of my classmates dads were laid off from Ford around that time period you mention. My dad was fortunate to work at Ford for 30 years & to take a decent early retirement package while he was still in his 50’s, but that was in the 90’s.

The Palmetto I mention is a small city next to Bradenton. It is across a large river to the north.
I am seeing the same thing in my piece of the sun. Locals are letting their mask down more, every time I go into the stores am seeing more people without mask on. Hell last week went into a national chain rest/bar to grab a quick beer while waiting for fireworks to start and you couldn’t get to the bar the place was so packed.

If I do not keep cookies/files cleaned out to just 4 – WordPress, wp, Twitter and Youtube, my computer is slow and balky. When surfing around – some sites will put as many as 50 cookies/files on my computer. Wikipedia and Zerohedge are the worst.

Firefox doesn’t have the same feature, but it does allow you to get medieval on trackers, and that has basically forced embedded tweets to behave like they do in Brave when “turned off”.

Strange thing. Looks like it is made of stainless steel, or maybe aluminum. Did anyone find out if it is hollow and whether it is open at the top?
If it is open, it might be a ventilation duct for some structure underground, and this is there to avoid having water flood in during wet season. Yet, the choice of material and the design in general looks too art-like for that — if it is a ventilation duct for something underneath, it would be better to have it colored in shades of brown and orange similar to the surrounding terrain.
It also looks like it hasn’t been there for very long. It should probably have been looking more weathered otherwise.
Or maybe it is some kind of test target, as a reflector for some kind of long-range detection system, radar, visual, etc. In which case there might be others around, both similar and dissimilar. Who owns the land where this thing is?

I was thinking last evening about PA mail ins. it was instituted for convenience because our legislature created Act 77 in 2019–BEFORE the pandemic.
so looking at the irregularities in mail ins–there are plenty of cases where the votes were recorded as received either on the same day or BEFORE they were even mailed out–which is a real head scratcher.
someone suggested it was because those people went to the election board or wherever, requested their mail in vote, filled it out right there and left…SO THEY COULD HAVE VOTED ON ELECTION DAY–there was no covid fear–they still appeared in person to vote! they completely BYPASSED the MAIL IN FUNCTION–so why was it needed???
TOTALLY AGREE! Make sure every person who votes has a VALID Certified ID keyed to Social Security # – and with photo and signature matching Driver License!

This is a land redistribution scheme, plan and simple. A federal agency would be tasked with purchasing billions of dollars in private land annually on the American taxpayer’s dime. And to add insult to injury, that land would then be given exclusively to people based on their race.
Millions of acres would be redistributed under this plan. The Equitable Land Access Service must dole out at least 20,000 land grants annually to eligible Black individuals and entities helping any number of eligible Black individuals in identifying and claiming the free land they’re supposed to be entitled to. Up to 160 acres per grant could be redistributed under this plan. After crunching the numbers, 32 million acres of land would be redistributed to Black applicants if the maximum 160-acre allotment for land grants is given out in at least 20,000 grants annually during the span of ten years. This total represents 1.6 percent of all land in the continental United States.

Okay, so, I have a little, um, thing I would like to say as we all move toward turkey day. I don’t want to sound whiny or bossy or pedantic, but it may come off that way.

I realize that there’s a lot at stake with this election aftermath, and the lawsuits being filed and the need to help the lawyers when one can. However, please know that there are others hanging out in this tree who cannot contribute at this point other than with prayer and passing word on. It just isn’t there, especially for people who compete professionally with friends and family members who will do jobs and gigs for free when a true professional costs union rates. In addition, some of us see the reality that free stuff does not always entice buyers to “buy in” to additional product.
I mean, seriously, that free e-book that is enjoyed by tens of thousands of people, probably took the author a minimum of six months to produce, especially if the writer is an independent author using a distribution service that takes a cut of any actual sale made. Free stuff doesn’t translate to actual sales.
The hand made craft level hat or scarf that a county bizarre artist is selling for double or triple what one would pay for a similar item at Walmart…the materials probably cost close to the same as the finished item does at a discount store, and hours it takes to produce the item(s) are usually not reflected in the price, because that would put the price at prohibition levels for most spenders.
Please, just keep in mind that not everyone in this fight is in the same boat in a lot of ways, and temperance in phrasing of contributions would be appreciated.

One year when I was actively drawing, I forget why, but I carefully recorded the time spent working on a large drawing, start to finish. 102 hours! One of my drawings was written ab, and a potential buyer wanted to know
it’s price. Then he balked.
I explained to him that at then minimum wage, the drawing had a labor cost of ab $1200, and as I was offering it for ab 60% of that “cost”, I was being overly generous to any perspective buyer.
This is why, w 2D art, printmaking is so lucrative, and only Galleries contain originals.

Tony Blinken was deputy secretary of state in the Obama administration. He was national security adviser to Biden during Obama’s first tem.
From 1994 to 2001, he was part of President Bill Clinton’s National Security Council.
Jonathan Guyer of The American Prospect reported on Blinken in July.
Blinken co-founded WestExec Advisors with Michelle Flournoy, a hawk. He cashed “in on his international connections” and “years of face time with Saudi, Israeli, and Chinese leaders.”

David S. Cohen was a deputy director of CIA from 2015-2017. His bio at the Big Law firm WilmerHale says he focused on how US companies “could advance the CIA’s mission.” He was under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence in Treasury Department in Obama admin.
Cohen’s WilmerHale bio indicates he was instrumental in developing sanctions for Iran, Russia, North Korea, ISIS, al Qaida, etc. He was Obama’s “favorite combatant commander” or the admin’s “financial Batman.” He’s also been referred to as a “sanctions guru.”
The UN chief warned in October 2015 that sanctions on Iran had escalated inflation, spurred rise in commodities and energy costs, increased unemployment, and led to medicine shortages.
But Cohen boasted about impact sanctions had on Iran, saying rial had “dropped like a rock.”
Avril Haines was a principal deputy national security adviser to Obama. In 2013, she was appointed CIA deputy director. She also held a number of senior legal positions in the Obama admin.
She is a member of CNAS, a think tank funded by weapons contractors.
Spencer Ackerman covered Haines’ history as CIA deputy director. She backed “Gina Haspel for CIA director, someone directly implicated in CIA torture.”
“Until late June, she consulted for Trump-favorite data firm Palantir, which emerged from CIA.”
While Haines apparently fought for some restrictions on CIA drone strikes, she represented the CIA’s interests when it came to the Senate torture report and was accused of trying to help the agency conceal certain findings from declassification.
After the CIA spied on the Senate intelligence committee’s work, Haines accepted there was no reason to discipline or hold anyone at the CIA accountable. It was one of her last acts as the agency’s deputy director.
Kathleen Hicks was principal deputy under secretary of defense for policy in Obama admin.
She is senior vice president, Henry Kissinger Chair, & director of International Security Program at Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) & leader of Biden’s Pentagon team.

Stanley McChrystal is a retired general who commanded US and International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) in Afghanistan. He led Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), overseeing a kill list and operations that involved deadly night raids.
In Jeremy Scahill’s book, “Dirty Wars,” an entire chapter was dedicated to McChrystal, “The Troublemaker.”
Douglas MacGregor, a career military officer, said McChrystal ingratiated himself with neoconservatives, particularly Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney.
McChrystal, according to one retired officer quoted in “Dirty Wars,” believed he “presided over this black world where any actions were justified against Muslims” because the US was “fighting against the Caliphate.”
Scahill’s book thoroughly details a torture scandal that erupted around Camp Nama [Nasty Ass Military Area], which was run by JSOC. CIA general counsel Scott Muller said torture techniques at Nama were “more aggressive” than techniques the CIA was using.
In his memoir, according to Scahill, McChrystal said torture was result of “lapses of discipline among individual members.” Systematized torture never happened. “That wasn’t the case before I assumed command and wasn’t true under my command nor under my successors.”
Here’s an example of the sadistic violence that occurred regularly at Camp Nama. This is partly why the Red Cross was not permitted to visit, and this violence happened on under McChrystal’s command.
There is next to no accountability for torture. So, let’s throw out another horrific example that implicates McChrystal. This one involves mud and a cold hose.

Yes, it was no fun while it went on. Still have some cough and occasional headaches — but otherwise fine.

The eight notes (actually six) of the continuo (bass) line of that piece are burned into my mind after countless weddings, concerts, and other performances of it; hence the TacoBell pejorative (although I like and miss Taco Bell – in reasonable amounts).
The main problem for a cellist (or bassist) playing the “discontinuo” 🙂 line is losing track of how many repetitions are left…. nothing more embarrassing than a quartet turning into a solo by mistake 😮
Nonetheless, it is a pretty piece when performed well…
Those repetitious partitions can be maddening – I bet it is heavenly, Cuppa – you describe it so well – must be special if people choose it for weddings – 🙂
And the sad thing about the Pachelbel Canon…it’s really a funeral piece if you use it liturgically.

He’s been able to take lemons and make lemonade out of it by getting a CI (Cochlear Implant) during this time, but Corona shutdowns are threatening some of his “Reha” (rehabilitation) training. He’s hoping to get the other side done after he’s gotten used to the first CI. He’s basically having to learn how to hear all over again, but he’s musical and smart, so it seems to be going well. Kind of an odd “benefit” from the FaKorona madness is that he (and his classmates) can use this semester as downtime without being penalized for it, but in his case it puts him behind from a calendar point of view…. sigh….
OTOH, CI’s, although not perfect, are a blessing when all else has failed. His hearing aids put out 100 to 130dB, which is about as loud as a jet taking off. I just hope an pray that something can be found to grow the hair cells back in the Cochlea so folks don’t have to go through all this. I have (pretty much) normal hearing, and sometimes the gibberish I hear from people makes me want to say “get the pillow out of your mouth and talk some sense”…
His Uni went to complete online lectures, etc., but it’s impossible to lipread the profs (let alone all the participants on WexEx [grrrr] even on a 27” monitor…
What’s nice is some people realize he’s borderline deaf, and “unmask” so he can tell what they’re saying. I can only say, thank GOD for those people…
hubby has been deaf in one ear since grade school–botched adenoid surgery. he doesn’t like to tell people about it, but if you talk on that side of him, he doesn’t respond. some thought he was rude, stand-offish, but i politely explain when he’s out of earshot…
I was born with almost no hearing in my right ear. Wasn’t diagnosed till fifth grade. Always thought I was just stupid in school when in reality I was only hearing half of what was being said.

On account of COVID you now drive your own car into their garage and wait in it while they jack it up and work on it. It was almost like having a pit crew, especially at the end when three people put on the wheels.

Actually there was no need. It was just interesting enough to watch them work, and sitting in my car in the garage, I could see everything. It probably took about 20 minutes once I was in the garage. about 5 minutes was waiting for someone to talk to me and 10 was actually buying the tires and having them go look at them (which they always do, even when they know you are planning on new ones). Then I had to go sit in the car in the parking lot while waiting for a bay to open (I ate my delayed lunch).
The best news was it cost me significantly LESS money than I donated to Sidney Powell.
So. could the tire change guys try out for a pit crew on any of the race circuits?
Once they got started bolting the wheels on they were done in a handful of minutes. A pit crew, of course, has to be MUCH faster than this. They did have a guy manually torque the nuts after the car was down, something I’m not sure they bother with at the races (I don’t watch that sort of thing very often). I could imagine that not happening in a pit crew because, after all, the wheel only has to stay on for a couple of hundred miles.
They were, nevertheless working quite rapidly and with very little time wasted as they swapped out the tires from the rims.
The pit crews use a specific air pressure and impact wrenches set at a specific torque. Plus I believe that most race cars use center-lock wheels (one big nut holds the wheel on). Fast is an understatement – these guys are like hummingbird wings.
