It occurred to me, Wolf, that you should be able to have the old website address simply re-direct to this address. No one would ever be “lost,” because they would just end up here. I had to do that with one of my websites once. I wanted several domain names to end up at the same place.

Present and glad to be here! I’m so impressed at the speed with which you made this happen, Wolf. I’m fuzzy about why this site is safer, but thank you!
It’s intentionally obscure (not by Wolf).
WordPress.org develops WordPress software. It’s FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) and a worthy project. It goes beyond a source-code escrow, it publishes its source code…..and you cannot be deplatformed from it because you can make your own copy and recompile.
WordPress.com, however, is a commercial enterprise that offers webhosting and managed WordPress. These are the schmucks that gave CTH a couple of weeks to leave (which the CTH crew seems to have successfully performed). There is no guarantee that — having been cheated out of a scalp at CTH because they gave them two weeks — they might not seek a different scalp by ousting the qtree in one week. Or three days. Or now.
Wolf saw what happened to CTH and wisely took it as a sign to be ahead of the curve. This site is now hosted by Epik, the same company that hosts Gab and bitchute. They’re not out to lick Google’s boot by stomping anyone. It’s still running WordPress.org’s software, but there are features borrowed from WordPress.com like shared logins and bells, all of which seem to harbor hidden problems.
The site is safer because it is becoming untethered from known bad-actors.

Now you can see why I was initially hesitant to let WordPress.com handle the authentication of our members, and tried to avoid that dependency – but eventually succumbed to the reality that both JetPack notifications and WP.com logins are heavily used by our membership.

Hi Wolf. I’m here but a bit perplexed by some of the features or lack thereof. I clicked through to sign in via Word Press the other day to do that test post so am still accessing things that way, if it makes a difference.
I was able to view 2 replies to one of my comments on the notification bell & also Likes on that test post the other day (God Bless Us Every One–does that post still exist? for I never had any notification for any of that conversation just post likes?).
I don’t get notifications for likes to comments here & cannot look to see who has liked Any comments, does anyone have that capability?
It might be helpful to create a super basic post w/ particulars of this new site, especially to note differences from wqth & any workarounds that are known…
I just saw the “subscribe” & “notify me of new follow-up comments” items above & clicked on those so maybe that will change my functionality going forward here…

So I went from noting the “like” situation to you to then posting a comment I’d written but wanted to check the bell first (my typical way when going back & forth between twit world & Q Tree)…
The first time I hit the “post comment” green button I got a red rectangle near the top right of the page telling me to slow down because I was posting comments too quickly…just an fyi-ism…for the hopper 🙂

If you have a WordPress account, that’s the easy way to log in, but you can also create an account on the site itself by registering. Either way lets you log in, which IMO is the best way to be on the site. Guest logins are trickier, IMO, but they’re fine, too, and I don’t try to push people into any particular account type, because that’s really a personal decision.
I’ll make sure you can log in reliably, one way or another!

I don’t understand why my bell notification doesn’t work. I carefully click on the gray bell with the line through it at the bottom of my comment, but I don’t see any likes or comments and it I click on my bell in the upper right corner all I get is the whirling circle of death.
Also, Wolf, I have a question. On WP I use Reader almost exclusively. I notice here, in the black bar at the top of my screen is the Reader option on the left. But it doesn’t work, or I don’t know how to make it work here? Anyone else use Reader that can offer help? Thanks!

It’s sort of like how Wolf can do superscripts and subscripts and I can’t. It looks fine until I hit post comment, meanwhile he has told me three times I need to do what I just did (I will spare you that and assume it’s just broke for you for some reason). Grrrrr….
I am going to look into this. It’s a very enigmatic bug.
It’s possible there is some subtlety to procedure I wasn’t catching…but I know that just before I hit post comment, it looked perfect.
Since it’s HTML, it’s entirely possible that your browser and my browser intervene on either or both the composition widget and the display widget in some unstated way(s), along the path to rendering, and it’s NOT the same. Entirely possible!
Same quirky experience here. Copy image (instead of image link) was working in the beginning. Now if you do it, it looks good in the box. When you hit post, it replaces with the funky link. Have to edit it real quick to get the picture back. Weird. Issue was giving poor Duchess fits yesterday. Thank you Jesus for the Edit Button!

It strangely works on tweets. Drag-copy a tweet, and the user image copies into the comment when pasted.
BTW, I “liked” your comment, from the bell notifier, but it did not show as being “liked” when I went directly to it.
Yes – WP can’t show the JetPack “likes” on the page, unless we enable both JetPack “likes” and wpDiscuz “likes”, which are separate entities. I tried displaying both – it’s pretty ugly, because JetPack likes break up the physical comment thread structure of wpDiscuz. The notifier JetPack “likes” are somewhat abstract, when they don’t show up on the actual page. But they are there.

I should’ve scrolled down. Answered above. I think you can only comment on WP.com sites through the reader. If you follow other types of sites in the Reader, you can read the posts only, but have no comment capabilities.
Our new site is using Epik? from WP.org. We use the WP.com JETPACK plugin for comments here. But we are no longer using WP.com anything else. The Reader comment function is for WP.com sites only.

Had me going in circles til I figured that out a few days ago. We are also using the WP.com login. Wolfie fixed that where this site also has a login so some people actually have 2. Getting too complicated for me, I’m sticking with my original. Every time you use a differnt login, even a typo, you go into moderation and need to be freed.
I don’t even understand that or how you would do it. I read upthread someone has the two accounts and then linked them. I’m just using my WP account. Maybe it would work better to use a Wolfie site account, I don’t know.
WP account is likely the best for notifications. From there, we just need to clean up other problems!

I agree. It shouldn’t be necessary to scroll to the bottom to go to a different page.

Thanks for checking wheatie. Bfly says we can only comment via reader on WP sites. Otherwise, all we can do isi……read. Still, using my reader is the only way I (so far) can get bell notifications. So I guess for now I keep two tabs up. One for reader so I can see bell notifications of likes and comments and one for the site so I can comment.

I need more covfefe. It’s flaky, if you haven’t done it, you’ll see it. But once you’ve done it, it disappears, so it’s hard to talk someone new through it because you can’t see it anymore to help them. Gotta do it from memory and that ain’t awake in my brain yet. Fortunately I documented it somewhere. I’ll try and hunt down those instructions. Unless Wolfie has them handy??

But I seem to remember some. In WP under My Sites, find Dashboard, then Jetpack, Install, and Approve. That connects your WP account to this site and makes the Black bar with the Bell appear. Windows Browsers ONLY.

I have the black bar with the bell. However, it doesn’t work. I click the bell and I get the buffering circle and nothing ever appears. What browser do you use? I’m using Opera.

Hello all. I am one of the lurkers now ready to introduce myself. Some of you have already seen me at Gab where I registered to keep up with you all should anything happen to the website. Thank you for the warm welcome!
A bit about myself: Grew up mostly in CA; left on a foreign adventure straight out of college and never came back (except short-term or visits), so have lived almost 2/3 of my life outside of the U.S.; my husband of 37 years grew up in a communist country; 6 kids; 6 grandkids so far; long-time Christian; non-interested in politics until President Trump came along, then registered to vote for the first time; spent the last 5 years catching up on recent history and politics in the U.S. by way of several websites, including this one; non-tech-savvy and social media newby (has taken me 2 days to get myself registered for WordPress); recovering from a long bout of exhausion/depression/burnout after dealing with the practical/emotional fallout of 3 deaths in the immediate family in as many years, which is why I could not register until now. This site really helped me through the toughest of times–your humor and commraderie made me smile on days when there wasn’t much else to smile about.
Now that I am here, I will revert to mostly lurking again. My husband’s vocation takes him to places where it is better that we stay rather anonymous on the web, and I am not always up to commenting, anyway.

So okay I have a question. I ‘ve been here since the beginning from OT. I never had a WP account, just commented, but no additional features that others had I guess. So in reading the comments what is the best approach going forward? Open a WP account and log in through it or to subscribe/open an account on this new platform? I have both types of accounts, WP.com and one for here. I have them linked so I can see replies from other blogs I follow while here.
I dislike Word Piss so I forgo the bells and whistles they use to entice you to set up a blog. I just created a password here. (Look in your spam bin in your email acct you use for here.)
I think you can stick with what you are doing if you don’t need the notifications stuff. I will do a post later on features and whatnot – that may help you decide.

I’m here, still having problems with the bell thingy. W – on my iPhone, Safari, I can see the black bar and my avatar, but no bell…on my windows laptop, I have the black bar, avatar and bell, but the bell isn’t working…when I click the bell it opens, but then nothing.
Will get back in touch this afternoon to solve! This sounds like an ad blocker problem!
That’s the same problem I have. Commenting / liking works fine, but nothing under the bell. 😊
Idevices aren’t happy. On the phone I think the display is too small, so only the Gravatar shows. On the Ipad you can see all the buttons, but the Bell option just gives you a spinning circle. To see notifications, I installed the WP app, you can check them and reply there through the Bell option. But you can’t comment on the blog because this isn’t a WP.com site. The Reader doesn’t let you comment on non WP.com sites.
Red and I may have found it! Go to Settings, then to Safari, then scroll down to Privacy and Security. There is a setting called “Prevent Cross-Site Tracking”. THAT is likely what is keeping WordPress from “tracking” you!!!
There are also many more advanced setting under “Experimental” at the end, but I would avoid messing with those unless you are sure you understand the implications of the changes. Those MIGHT allow a finer tune than just allowing cross-site tracking, but some of those would be hard to remember to undo!

According to the database, you have JetPack working. I suspect that you may need a WordPress cookie on your Windows machine. Try logging into wordpress.com in the same browser in a different tab, and make sure it remembers your password – also don’t log out of your WordPress account. Then, if this page is allowed to borrow your wordpress.com cookies, then it can log in automatically and do the JetPack stuff!

Yes – that is ALL INSIDE WP.com – I think that is the difference. iPhone may be very rigorous on “cross-site talk” – to avoid cross-site scripting attacks!

Here is an idea that came from answering bakocarl’s question this morning. You may need to have Safari REMEMBER your login password into WordPress.com AND this site.
It does, I use IOS PW manager. NEVER CHANGE PW. ALWAYS STAYS LOGGED IN TO WP, Since 2017. I also have always used Google search to access and enter the website, NEVER Safari. I’ve tested Google, Safari, Edge, Brave browsers on IDevices. Same results.

I am a little late responding to this but I hope it helps. In the bar at the top of the page where it says: https://www…. there is a place that gives you the page # and the comment #.
When I want to change pages and I am at the top of the page I go up to the address and change the page # from say 2 to 3. It will change the page. It is just easier and you don’t have to change anything.

I have to re-log in more at this new site. Always had to sign in at the old site, if I cleaned out cookies. Here, I have to log in again if I’m away from the site for a while or if I close the site page.
For example, right now first thing this morning, I can post comments and my name is on the little fill in sheet under this comment, but it says I’m not logged in the comment box at the top of the page.

I’m wondering if these variances are caused by differences in software at the user’s computer or procedural at this blog (e.g., registering, logging in, subscribing or synching with JetPack), since I never have to sign in, even after using CCleaner to clean my cookies.
Yes – BROWSER software can make a huge difference. The reason is that browser makers have learned to STORE passwords and logins and then log people in automatically – precisely because people delete login cookies and expect things that depend on them to still work. So basically the function of cookies has been taken over by browser makers because of the “Cookie Rebellion” by users!
Alternatively, your non-browser PASSWORD MANAGER SOFTWARE is doing this.

Wolfie, kea is having trouble. She can’t comment or like or anything. She’s on a laptop. Here’s what she says:
“I signed up before he moved the site and it shows me as logged in but its not letting me do anything else.Ugh still can’t comment/like or reply on wolfs new site. I give up. I’ve logged in and out cleaned cookies linked and unliked. Looks like its not meant to be. LOL Don’t know what else to try.”
Since she can’t comment she can’t talk to you, and I don’t even know what questions to ask her.
She CAN comment – I see every comment that comes into here, whether SHE sees it or not. I just have to RELEASE every comment.
I was too busy moving us yesterday to deal with comments – there was a long period where I could not deal with them all – and then I had to finally sleep!
I saw all her comments and approved them LATER.
What I need is about 30-120 minutes where I ask her questions and she answers and tries things.
What you can do is arrange a time where she’ll work with me and answer all my questions while we sit there and figure it all out. Tomorrow afternoon might be good.
Everybody can get hooked up. But we have to stick with it until it happens!

Hi Freida! What you need to do is LOG IN using the “Log In” link at the end of the sidebar on the RIGHT. If you have a WordPress account, use that. If not, and you don’t want a WordPress account, then do a “Forgot Password” and check your SPAM / JUNK folders for an email from this site, if you don’t see a password reset email.
Once you’re hooked up with a registration that’s working, and especially “JetPack”, you can get notifications about this site more easily!
Freida! Good news. Bflyjesusgrl just found the BEST way to control notifications of WordPress sites. Go to READER in the black bar at the upper left, or when you are in WordPress.com. Here is what she said:
“I select My Sites from the Black Bar (Ipad) or go into the Reader (Iphone) and follow.”
Under each site, there is “settings”, and it controls both browser and email notifications about NEW POSTS.

Good Morning Mr. Wolf Moon Sir and all other Treepers,
A lurker here checking in as instructed. I was able to log in using my original WordPress account so I didn’t have to change my log in name, yay! I am a fulltime caregiver for my 93 year old mother and my 16 year old granddaughter is currently living with me as well…dad & step mom separated and trying to work out their marital problems. This keeps me quite busy and sometimes a bit stressed. Honestly, if I didn’t have Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, living in me, I would have already given up and gone crazy. But I am blessed because He is the one who provides for me and sees me through everything. And I am confident He is going to work things out with all election fraud as well! Just know that I am here in the background, keeping up with all the great information everyone posts and my prayers are with the Q tree and everyone associated with it. God bless you all!

I believe that you can CHANGE IT if you log into WordPress.com and play with the emails, and it won’t make you validate the new one through the old one – it just notifies the old one. I know that some people have corrected inaccessible emails that way.

Hi, Wolf. Yeah, I never received anything by email to confirm my password (I’m not using a WorPress Account) so it’s not accepting the password that I chose. If I try to re-register it tells me that I’m already registered.

Yes! We are missing “says” on this website, because that word is introduced after the commenter name by JetPack!!!
The “xxxxxx says” format is very useful to force the word to be a poster’s handle.
I am trying to find a mimic, but it’s tough. You may just have to stick with handles and get too many results in some cases.
When I search, for example: site:theqtree.com “Harry Lime”
I get nothing.
I do ! I plugged in <theqtree.com> and used Google.

I logged in where it says to login by the comment post.
It might have been my password too cuz the first two posts I used the password when I first signed onto the new website I had to change my password. I don’t know why but I did. When I logged in on the two first posts I used That password and it sent me to moderation. When I logged in after you told me to on the sidebar which I assumed was by where you post a comment it told me I had the wrong password so I tried the old password and it worked.
OK, good. This tells me that people using old PWs are going into moderation!
Wolfmoon the new password sent me to moderation but when I used my old password it worked.
Any change in password NOT done by WordPress will require re-release from moderation, I think!

It was a password issue…and I finally checked my spam folder and was able to reset.

You’re an author here! You just need to log in using either WordPress or your account on the site. Do you have a black band at the top?

Does it have a “Write” button, your avatar, and a bell in the upper right? Or does it have something else?
If you have something else, it’s presumably the black bar from WordPress.org, which is the software this site runs, and not the black bar from WordPress.com, which we now favor, because it guarantees the “bell notifier” which people are more familiar with.
I can get you into posting through either black bar, but frankly the black bar with the bell notifier (and not the speech bubble notifier) is just more straightforward for people, because it looks familiar and has more familiar actions.
You should also be able to get into posts through the “My Sites” button on the left end of the black bar, IF you are logged in with your WordPress account.
I think the problem may be that you are logged in with the local account and not your WordPress account, which will give you notifications quickly.
Log out, and log back in using your WordPress account, and things will be obvious very quickly, because you’ll see more familiar “blue” windows, instead of the black ones.
Try logging out (Log Out item at the bottom of the right sidebar) and log back in using your WordPress account. That will sync up JetPack quickly.

Excellent! You’re using a “guest login” – and that method is very reliable. You don’t get the “black WordPress bar and browser notifier / comment reader”, which many veteran commenters like, but if you’re going to mostly lurk, your method is perfect! 😀

You need to be logged into here consistently – either as a guest, a site member, or using your WordPress credentials. I have been recommending using your WordPress credentials, because you get good notifications through their tool called “JetPack”.
If you log in through YOUR site ID (email and password) OR through WordPress (recommended), you need to go to the bottom end of the right-hand sidebar, where it says “Log In” or “Log Out”. I logged in at WordPress and now I have a black bar that shows me as a ‘Reader’, and also has a bell. How exciting! Don’t think I ever saw/noticed it before. Is it true that if I click the bell, notification will alert me that post has a reply? Hehe, that is cool.

Michael – something is very weird with that. I have no idea what it is. I will have to investigate tonight. I suspect that it is backdoor censorship by WordPress or ChiCom / CIA hackers.
Yeah my best recommendation is to clear cookies and log in again fresh.

I would have loved you to have met some of my neighbors back a couple decades ago. They were in their 80s back then and the local historians with a lot of first hand information gathered from Civil War veterans.
Hubby had wanted to interview them on tape but with trying to build a farm from scratch we never found the time.
