All Things Work Together For Good . . .
Many things are happening now in this country and around the world that would tend to make some people doubt if the end result will be “good”. In God’s plan, not everything will end up in a situation that someone might define as good, but God knows why He is doing things this way and we have just got to believe that. Why? Because the end result will be very good, indeed!
Most of us, if not all, won’t be able to see how, for example, the persecution and deaths of vast numbers of Christians in the last 2,000 years could possibly be good. However, God is in control and He has permitted that persecution and those deaths to happen as part of His perfect plan. And God knows that the persecutions and deaths will all work together with other events so the big picture end result is good. We just can’t see it from our earthly perspective.
God’s Word says: “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.” (Romans 8:28-30)
For our good . . . let’s see . . . we, the wicked, sinful, totally undeserving are chosen by God to get resurrected bodies that are spiritual and imperishable, raised in glory and power. And, after that, we get to live for eternity (get that? for eternity), living with Jesus and God, where Jesus has prepared places for us . . . in a place encrusted by gems with gates made from giant pearls, and streets of transparent gold lighted by God’s glory. A river of the water of life, clear as crystal, comes from the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the middle of its street and on either side of the river is the tree of life. There will be no more tears, pain, crying, sorrow or death, but, I believe, God’s peace, perfect joy, thanksgiving, praise and worship, and many other things that are totally beyond our imagination.
Yes, I would most assuredly say that things will have worked together for our good no matter the result of specific events leading up to the final conclusion.
What about all the things that cause us to say “oh, woe is me”? Is there much of a comparison between those things and what God has planned for us in the future for eternity? Thinking of that, shouldn’t it be a bit easier to follow Paul’s advice and rejoice in Christ? I mean a really deep-down, heartfelt Rejoice!
Now, taking a closer look at “all things work together for good” . . .
When Christians say all things work together for good, we are referring to a portion of one of the most quoted verses in the New Testament, Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Or, as the KJV translates it, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
God works all things together for good—both His good and our good. As God is glorified, His people benefit.
In Romans 8, Paul contrasts a life lived in selfish pursuits (the flesh) and one lived in league with, or in accordance with, God (the Spirit). He impresses upon readers that our sovereign God is all-knowing, all-wise, and all-powerful.
We who love God can trust His goodness, His power, and His will to work out all things for our good. We journey together with Him.
The promise that God works all things together for good does not mean that all things, taken by themselves, are good. Some things and events are decidedly bad. But God is able to work them together for good. He sees the big picture; He has a master plan.
Neither does the promise that God works all things together for good mean we will get all that we want or desire. Romans 8:28 is about God’s goodness and our confidence that His plan will work out as He sees fit. Since His plan is always good, Christians can take confidence that, no matter our circumstances or environments, God is active and will conclude things according to His good and wise design. With this knowledge we can learn to be content (see Philippians 4:11).
The fact that God works all things together for good means God’s plan will not be thwarted. In fact, we are part of His plan, having been “called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). When we trust God and His way, we can be sure that He is active and powerful on our behalf (see Ephesians 3:20).
God knows the future, and His desires will be accomplished. “I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please’” (Isaiah 46:10). Even when things seem chaotic and out of control, God is still in charge. We sometimes worry about what’s happening to us because we do not know what is best for us. But God does.
The principle of God working all things together for good is well illustrated in the Old Testament account of Joseph’s life. Early in Joseph’s life, Joseph’s jealous brothers sold him into slavery. In Egypt, Joseph rises to a position of responsibility. Then, he is unjustly imprisoned and forgotten about by his friends. God gifts him the ability to interpret dreams, and through that ability Joseph is once again raised to a place of honor and power. When drought forces Joseph’s brothers to seek food elsewhere, they travel to Egypt and encounter Joseph, who eventually saves them from starvation and grants them a livelihood in his new land.
Throughout his life, Joseph trusted God no matter his good or bad circumstances. Joseph experienced plenty of bad things: kidnapping, slavery, false accusations, wrongful imprisonment, rejection, and famine. But in the end God brought things to a wonderful, life-affirming conclusion. God blessed Joseph’s entire family through those painful circumstances and through Joseph’s faith.
Paul’s life is another testament to how God works all things together for good. Paul suffered shipwrecks, beatings, imprisonment, murder attempts, temporary blindness, and more—all within God’s plan to spread the gospel (see Acts 9:16 and 2 Corinthians 11:24–27). Through it all, God was steadfastly working to bring about good and glorious results.
After promising that God works all things together for our good, Romans 8 concludes with the wonderful fact that God trumps everything that comes against Him and those who belong to Him. Christians are assured that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? . . . No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:35–39). God’s love is everlasting, and His wisdom is infinite. It doesn’t matter who or what attempts to thwart God’s plan; no one and nothing can. God will work all things together for the good of those who love Him. Our decision to align our will with God’s and to always trust Him will be rewarded.

Thank you for this encouraging post, bakocarl. There is so much that we don’t know, and the things we would do might prove disastrous. But, as you say, “[God] sees the big picture; He has a master plan,” and nothing can separate us from His love. There is great comfort in this.
Someone mentioned on yesterdays Open that they heard that an entire school board had resigned after the leaked video of them mocking parents…
apparently this is true…but these parents no longer have faith in whoever will be replacing them…

One thing that struck me when I heard a few of the things they said was how immature they seem. There aso was not a sign of class or kindness or circumspection. They seemed supremely confident that they had the upper hand and could say and do what they wanted.
While I hope they gain some perspective, until people like that do, we have to defeat them soundly, at every level. We can’t have entire school boards and other “leaders” who are crass, inconsiderate, self-centered people.

Such is the nature of man. Our Founding Fathers left us a strong bulwark against such in the Constitution. How have we allowed it to become weak? How can we rebuild it and strengthen it?

His message is to not do in secret what you can’t do in public — because he will make your secret works public. And for the rest of us, his message is: “don’t fear the light — BRING IT!”
It’s hard for me to imagine not fearing prison time, but maybe they think they would never face that. But exposure would (or should) result in a loss of position, power, prestige, reputation, and the cash cow that feeds so many. They can act shamelessly while they feel they have the upper hand, but the shame of exposure terrifies them. Bring it on!

Why did Texas lose power? Math — apolitical, non-ideological, and sometimes cruel math.
During such an extreme cold for which Texas is mostly unprepared, the demands on the electric grid exceeded its output capacity. The majority of Texans heat their home with electricity, and, under typical circumstances, it makes sense. Why spend money to bring natural gas heat into the home when it’s very likely you can go an entire winter without turning it on? As temperatures plummeted, Texans turned on and turned up the heat.
But something else was happening. The extreme cold was impacting all electricity production. All of it: coal, natural gas, nuclear, but most of all wind.
The Department of Energy tracks electricity generation hourly. On Sunday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m., this was Texas’s electricity makeup in megawatt-hours:

Why the delta? Natural gas, for starters, experienced a shortage. Those Texans who do have natural gas heating their homes turned it up, and what would have been available for electricity generation, went to homes. Similarly, nuclear and coal were adversely impacted by the cold. These are failures, plain and simple, and they can be explained away as anomalies in an unlikely, black swan scenario.
But what of wind power? Wind turbines froze and were rendered useless. Here is the real reason for the failure and I’ll prove it with an apples-to-apples comparison.

So serious is this percentage of the electric grid coming from unreliable wind power that more than two years ago, the Chair of Texas Public Utility Commission called lack of dependable electricity reserves “very scary.” Yet, Texans still saw three coal plants removed completely from the equation, even as a back-up, a safety net.

As everyone knows, some natural gas pipelines froze, contributing to the blackout. However:
It was the “green” energy sources that failed to show up for work:

The fatal flaw of wind energy is that it only works, at best, 40% of the time. When the wind doesn’t blow–as it tends not to during times of bitter cold–wind turbines are useless. The fact that some wind turbines froze up is interesting, but far from the main point.
My understanding is that natural gas pipelines didn’t freeze; they lost power. And this goes back to an environmentalist decision to run the pumps on the pipeline with electricity rather than with motors fueled by the gas in the pipe.
Propane, itself, condenses at -40. Nothing in Texas remotely approached that. Natural gas, which also contains things like methane (-257), ethane (-127), etc. won’t even condense at such temperatures.
Insistence that pipelines rely on far-off electricity rather than the existence of fuel to be pumped to power the pumps would set the system up for truly systemic failure.

If trees fall on all the electric lines needed to pump your natural gas, it is not a failure of natural gas — it’s a failure to design your natural gas to not need electric.

Several people have called “BS” on the natural gas freezing.
Condensation and icing is a different issue related to weatherization – but that’s also discussed further.
I’ve mentioned that I belong to a club that builds small versions of engines from blocks of metal for fun. One common type of engine to build is the “hit-and-miss” engine. Essentially, this is an engine connected to a….oh, wait, this is a technical term… “BIG-ASS flywheel”, where the flywheel runs at a certain speed. If the flywheel is above the speed, the engine opens all valves and just pumps air between the input and the output. If the flywheel is below the speed, the engine runs the valves, injects fuel, and sparks to produce force. They typically sound like “shuf-shuf-shuf-shuf-shuf-shuf-shuf-putt-putt-putt-shuf-shuf-shuf-shuf-shuf-shuf”.
I belonged to this club for years thinking that they (and the originals) were toys.
Then I saw someone use one. I forget what for — maybe a grinder?
While it’s running open, there might be 13 cycles out of 16 that don’t consume fuel, don’t need a spark, don’t change valves, and just spin…..and 3 cycles out of 16 keep it running……but when you put a load on it, it can fire every time. The more you load it, the more powerful it is. It is an ingenious way to keep power on a leash, but available by command.
These were used in all sorts of remote applications — for irrigation, to run balers, for pumps and machine tools. They required very little to keep running, but were available at need.
And they were loathed and depised by treehugging idiots because electric consumes 0 energy during its downtime.
Even with my limited knowledge of the subject, I realized this during my popsicle state.
If it takes electricty to pump the nat gas to generate the electricity AND there’s NO electricity, WE ARE FUBAR!!!! 🥶🥶🤬🥶🥶

* ERCOT nearly brought down the entire Texas grid for MONTHS by their mismanagement on Sunday night

* They chose one of the worst possible locations to begin rolling blackouts – the Permian region of West Texas, the origin of most of the natural gas production and power generation, literally blacking out natural gas equipment throughout West Texas and deepening the power generation shortfall (!)

As I’ve said many times, Texas residents and Tea Party folks have been struggling just to get control of the Texas GOP for over a decade, much less the Texas State Legislature which has been locked in a state of RINO-Dem colluded gridlock. Someone is pulling back the curtain.
Texas looks good economically b/c it literally is doing NOTHING, whereas other states are regressing due to leftist operators. But the political gridlock is doing no one any favors. Despite the attempts to “turn Texas blue” the Rio Grande Valley had a 55 point swing in 2020 and those dreams are evaporating – the Valley knows that Oil Jobs are critical to the Valley’s economic prospects, and they voted for Trump in number NO ONE HAS EVER SEEN – the biggest upset on November 3rd that hardly anyone knows about. (Right now the best jobs in the valley are in teaching and law enforcement.)

Rolling Blackouts, Schmolling Blackouts, Blah!!!!
Sunday night, Monday morning actually at 2:21am, I happened to be awake when the lights went out. I tried to call Centerpoint, they recognized my phone number, but ended the call because no one was available. I went to the outage map, put in my phone number and they didn’t recognize me. The map said I was fine. Finally I went to CP twitter feed. They started posting ERCOT warnings around 11, LEVEL 1, then 12 LEVEL 2, then 1am we were at LEVEL 3 with ROLLING BLACKOUTS. Being suspended, I was unable to reply to their tweets. Basically, I had NO way to contact my energy provider to tell them my power was out. Twuck Fitter. I finally went to bed hoping somehow, someone would report my area’s outage. BUT THEY ALREADY KNEW. On Monday at 9:45 they finally announced that if your power was out, then it was unlikely it was coming back on that day.😱😭
35 hours later the power came on for 11 hours. I was able to warm my house from 45 to 60, then power went out again for hours. My rolling blackout continued for 3.5hrs OFF, then 2.5hrs ON for the next day and a half.
CP’s definition of rolling blackouts is OFF from 15m-1hr max. IT WAS ALL BS!💩💩💩 I didn’t hit their definition of rolling blackouts until late Wednesday night, when OFF finally dwindled to 1hr.
And I am one of the lucky ones! Some had power off up to 55hrs. AND NO WATER!!!!
I only lost water for 3 hours on Monday, thank God, it came back on once we started to decend to 20. You MUST run water at 20 and below or pipes will freeze. Sooo many of my neighbors are on Nextdoor begging for plumbers. Home Depot and Lowes are packed, out of supplies. NO bottled water left, except for the Sams in Corpus Christi.🙄 That’s 4hrs south. All food spoiled. On Sunday I bought $60 worth of meat alone, other groceries, thinking I was going to hunker down for a week. Buh Bye. Didn’t even snap about water, fortunately I already had 1 case.

One of our town’s two wells lost power, so we’ve been on low pressure and Boil Water Notice for days.
Our rolling blackouts were pretty mild and worked. Power went off every hour for about 30 minutes or so, except for the first night of the storm when power was out for a couple hours.
Sorry to hear you had such trouble. Many friends and colleagues have experienced just what you describe.

We had not far from me natural spring and it was closed for no reason a couple of years ago. This would come handy at a time when water is scares. We have lots of natural springs and could be tapped into where I live.

Yes and no. Where I live has a stone bed and it is a hill . My home’s foundation is set in carved out stone. We no longer get water in the house because we fixed it but most homes do. All the springs ..:)

Bingo. Texas is a very wealthy state. That the legislature does not provide funds for even such things as sand/salt for roads, let alone for winterizing our energy sources, is a crime.
Politicians in the large cities, as well as north Texas, must devise a plan to provide for winterizing, even if these plans are only used every few years.
Citizens, meanwhile, need to prepare on their own. Generators, wood stoves, propane when possible, and having a deep pantry and household goods to tide you over in an emergency.
Being from the Midwest, I just don’t get the not being prepared. Our transportation people spend the summer stockpiling road chemicals, and prepping. I know we have minimal renewables in this state. Illinois has more. Yes, it’s expensive, but even in mild winters it’s better to be safe than sorry.
And, maybe, this is why the warnings were out to be sure to have two weeks worth of food and other supplies. It does seem that Texas was targeted.
When you have 1 bad winter every 7 or 8 years, and the event lasts a week or less, people tend to not prepare. Human nature.
We get almost no snow, and Temps below 20 are super rare.
I remember when I was a child, being at my grandparents’ house in West Texas a couple of winters at Christmas, and it was COLD with a little bit of snow on the ground.
Ironically West Texas is much more likely to get cold winters and blizzards.

TY That’s the part I’m familiar with. My Dad’s family was all in west TX.
I think the rural areas, people are more prepared, but there is less urgency around cold weatherization and it is common to defer it.
Consider that an A/C unit replacement starts at $5,000, and Texas summers are hard on them, people tend to prioritize needs around the summer months. Texas heat is extremely dangerous and takes many lives every season. Winter extremes tend to be very short lived so people choose to stick them out when they happen.
Government and contractors are more likely to cut corners, too.
But there is another aspect to all this – the urban and suburbanization, combined with massive net in-migration, particularly from other southern states and California.
The major cities in Texas – Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin – are all deep blue. The ideology of blue areas is not inclined toward individual resilience but upon reliance upon common services. When something goes wrong, the solution isn’t to get out and fix it, but to complain like Karens about some service provider or the government not doing its job, as if they were able to pivot like magic.
My experience from the N. Texas area is that there is demographically a mix of both types. A lot of people who are self-reliant, or significantly resilient, and a lot of people who just are not. These are those suburban moms who won’t vote Trump that the MCM likes to talk about – the ones that are bought into the narrative and are still scared of COVID. Yes, they exist, they are real, and if you dare check on social media they are noisy and drown out all logic and reason. I can’t hardly use LIFELOG without getting an irrational beat down from them even when I say nice things about people.
Keep in mind too that North Texas has a lot of cultural and ethic diversity – it is hard to appreciate how much diversity without visiting. This is especially true of African American and Hispanic communities, but we also have large pockets of Koreans, Vietnamese, Chinese, Indian, etc. Each culture has its own ingrained habits (manners) of how they respond to an emergency. People were very critical when COVID broke and large Hispanic families responded by have large outdoor gatherings with food and breaking social distancing rules. Indian immigrants are quite comfortable during Texas summers and you often see them taking evening walks regardless of the heat; but many of them lack the shared cultural knowledge for resilience during cold snaps. One of my co-workers did not take winterization steps at his home and nearly had broken pipes, for example.
Regional differences also play a part in preparedness. One summer, DH and I were visiting my grandmother in west TX, and she was complaining about her family room add-on leaking. DH went up, took a look and bought a bucket of roofing tar. He fixed it, told her it wouldn’t look pretty, but it wouldn’t leak anymore and it didn’t. We however, live in the PNW where it rains a lot and DH is very particular about roofs.
One house we lived in had a shingle roof, and DH wanted a better roof, so he had a concrete tile roof put on, and was a newer type roof. The only problem with it was that it needed a lot of heat to cure properly, and guess what we don’t get. That was a huge mess to deal with. A new product that was probably researched in CA and then there was a class action lawsuit that was resolved after a few years. Lots of help /S.
One thing that bothers me is the lack of housing that is geared for different geographical areas. All the newer housing is cookie cutter, and looks the same all over, and is totally inappropriate for some geographical areas. All due to “code”, you know……
Yes that’s exactly right, and it’s getting worse as the builders are trying to move toward building more premium homes – which are built just as poorly as the old ones but are laid out as if they are mansions. Very energy inefficient!
A few years ago I spent time researching “building envelope” concepts because I’ve got some issues with my ~60 yo stick built house. Builders in Texas are exploring other styles of building that are more efficient and the local inspectors seem to be on board, so there is hope.
I’ve also been interested in the use of long tubes buried below the frost line (northwestern states) to get that normalizing effect of running outside air through the tubes before using indoors or in greenhouses. The soil temps being around 70 degrees F all year.

Here in the PNW most of us grow up with being prepped for weird weather. I remember well the Columbus day snow and wind storm of 69.it was cold ,very cold but we are used to wearing coats inside sleeping in our socks lol that year the milk would freeze in the pail on the walk from the barn to the house.
If your not acclimated to harsh weather it can be nasty on the body. the huge snowstorm we had in 2019 was bad. we had so much damage to our house it was unreal. but we were just naturally prepped with gennys, brick stove top outside to cook on and plenty of propane. when you grow up with nasty winters you just get used to the possibility of things going sideways. My Dad would have 10 cords of wood or more on hand at all times.
We cannot depend on government to help us we must go back to our roots of independence, Its for our own good to do so.

My Dad taught all 5 of us girls a lot about things we need and things we want. things needed are more important then wants so i have come to learn. right now we heat with the propane but we have wood stored just in case we need to pull the old wood burner out of the garage. hubby and i are both feeling old age and I love living in this old place , its small easy to maneuver and no stairs! the big plus is both sons live here on the property so they help with animal feeding and mucking. YAY for Pioneers!

Very true about the weather here. We were lucky this year with the last windstorm, had a couple of trees blow down, but nothing got damaged. We ended up with a shy 12″ of snow last weekend, but it was already starting to melt on Sunday. One thing we did when we moved to our current location is DH converted the gas logs to gas fireplace inserts which have been a god send at times. I wanted to convert one fireplace to a woodstove insert, but he didn’t want to deal with chopping wood anymore. (His age was creeping up on him.) Our first two homes had baseboard heat, but we heated with wood stove inserts and I loved it.
I like the freestanding stoves myself just for cooking on in a pinch! its so strange that just 45 minutes up I-5 it was a terrible mess with those winds and snow. down here we had wind and rain like usual this time of year.
We had the sort of inserts that you could cook on, and did a few times.

After I got Microshaft Upgrunt to certify my Win8.1 system as “ready for flight”, I proceeded to put the 2020 tax program on, load the proper state, and bring forward the previous years’ returns. Took me less than an hour. By which I can only conclude that Microsoft code-monkeys are about 1/8 as competent as H&R Block’s software staff. Oh, wait, I didn’t have to look up anything on the internet or do any CLI BS — make that 1/100.
I did have an interesting digression while loading the tax s/w. I’d downloaded it onto my Linux computer and had to sneakerware it over there…..and thumbdrives weren’t working.
Somewhere in my recent past, I’d loaded and enabled a package called usbguard. It was a surprise, but I like it — my computer will only load and access USB devices that I individually approve.
I approved a thumbdrive, copied the Win installer, and carried it over and used it. Smooth.
I was disappointed last year to find that the business form of Block required WIN 10. The 1040 was okay, didn’t need 10. Didn’t find it out until Oct as I’d filed an extension. Ended up DL the forms from IRS and manually entering everything, which takes about 3 X as long. Ugh.

Have dreamed of visiting the far north since childhood to witness this. Closest I have come is seeing the Lights while I lived in MT but what I saw there was nothing like the vivid colors of the far north
When we lived in Northern, MI we saw the Northern Lights on a number of occasions. When I was a child my dad carried me on his shoulders to see the multi-colored lights (red, blue, green, white, & yellow I think) & that is the only time I’ve seen multi-colors, & it was like 50 years ago.
About 15 years ago I was letting the dog out at like 4 am in Metro Detroit & saw green Northern Lights–I’d NEVER seen them in the Detroit area. I called my parents to wake them up to see & then I got each of my kids up & carried them outside to see the aurora & shooting stars. All 4 of them were so sleepy that NONE of them remember this momentous event but it’s one I’ll likely not forget.
The undulating curtains of shimmering green & random pulsing fingers of light were truly glorious (though not as spectacularly bright as in this video). It made me wonder if Jesus was about to return for it was such a glorious sight. I hope you get to see some someday in person, but there are probably many photos & videos online to enjoy.
If I still had access to my Pinterest stuff I had many such heavenly glories in a couple of my files. They are such a natural wonder & cause Everyone to look up & rejoice!
Which reminds me that the last time I saw the Northern Lights it was at my parents’ Northern, MI Cottage. We all went down to the beach & marveled at the subtle white lights that sometimes appeared like glowing fog & sometimes like fingers of light. My son Josiah started singing worship songs & he & I kept at it for quite a while–a very special time!
amazing! I saw white and green and they were small in comparison to what I see from the far north. Nothing like what you describe from northern MI or like I see in the videos. Sounds so lovely. If not on earth then I will see similar wonders in Heaven. So lovely.

I meant that US children who left the state run schools would benefit. Their parents would be able to figure out other ways to give their kids a good education, while the inner city and rural poor would have less choices and ability to ‘other educate’ their kids.
This is already the case with homeschooling.
A huge opportunity is online education. If children are coached individually to learn to seek out sources for independent sources of information. Think of it as “home schooling” for other peoples children. Would love to see creative packaging of good content to be appealing to children of all cultures.

Not looking too closely at the maps, but sometimes they are about open (unconcealed, western movie style) carry, as opposed to concealed carry.
And where states require permits there are a number of different gradations (the state must issue the permit as long as you meet minimum qualifications (“shall issue”), versus states leaving it up to the whim of the sheriff (“may issue” which often works out to “won’t issue”, versus…)
The issue is complicated by the fact that only relatively recently has the SCOTUS found that the Second Amendment actually applies to the states!! In the absence of that, state laws apply. And they will continue to apply until overturned specifically, case-by-case basis or perhaps SCOTUS will do a blanket overturning.
So just for instance, here’s Colorado’s “second amendment” analog, article II section 13. As far as I know it has been in our constitution since we became a state in 1876:
(There are probably a lot of similar things in other state constitutions since I suspect states were using a template and adapting it.)
If anything, the right is more emphatically asserted here than in the Federal 2nd Amendment, except for the qualification about concealed carry. And though I am not happy about that qualification, I do understand how it came about.
Back in the 1870s, many people carried openly, and it was unremarkable; this is what honest, law-abiding people did. If you were concealing a firearm, you were presumably up to no good, because there was no other reason to do so.
The culture has changed, however, and too many idiots freak out when they see a gun, so people wanting to be able to protect themselves and not cause any fuss (or get curious stares) want to conceal. We have long had a law allowing sheriffs to issue concealed carry permits, but sheriffs would uniformly refuse to do it (except, perhaps in some county out in the boonies with 2000 people living in it). Finally my county elected a sheriff who opened the process up…and my county is pretty basically statistically tied for being the largest in the state (the other county being the City and County of Denver). We had tried to pass shall issue for many years, and it would get killed by some damn RINO old bitch on the kill committee every year. But El Paso county going to a shall issue policy finally forced the issue and the state passed a shall issue law for concealed carry. In the meantime, it’s utterly and completely legal to open carry without a permit with one caveat: The City and Cessipit of Denver banned it, and when someone tried to sue on the grounds that that was unconstitutional, the state SCOTUS had one justice recuse, and the other six split evenly, so the Denver law stands even though anyone with more brains than a wilted head of lettuce should be able to see it violates the state constitution.
OK, that’s how it IS.
How I think it should be? Unless you’re in prison, or serving on parole, you should be allowed to carry any gun, knife, or other personal weapon, any damn way you want, and if you want to fill your house with them, you should be able to without hindrance.
However as a believer in property rights I also think people should be able to forbid carry on their own property and trespass those who refuse to comply. You want to carry, you stay off their property; you don’t have a right to be there.
Well the state law gives a narrow definition of the reasons to carry & specifically leaves out hunting & overthrow of illegitimate government, which was surely on the minds of the founders! Also “no person” sounds like fodder for lawfare (accidentally misspelled as lawFart!) types to twist into the legal pretzel that no one has such rights!

“Shall not be abridged” being the actual law of the land I thought that states can’t restrict freedoms constitutionally “granted” (or better yet enumerated). So states should theoretically have more freedom thatn federal law suggests, but not less! That viewpoint is too straightforward & commonsense to Ever be commonplace presumably!
Of course the Feds ignore the 2A routinely; you can’t carry in most federal facilities, for instance, and there are all those federal level gun control laws.
One thing you may or may not be aware of is that, as originally conceived, the bill of rights did not apply to state governments. Some states, for instance, had established churches well into the 19th century. Only with the passage of the 14th amendment did you see the SCOTUS start to rule that the BOR applies to the states, but they’ve been doing it piecemeal, “incorporating” one or two bits at a time. The 2A wasn’t incorporated until sometime this century (I don’t remember when) and of course you have to actually sue to get a 2A violating law overturned. SCOTUS has been simply refusing to hear 2A cases lately, probably both sides on the high court being afraid of what would happen.
Spinelessness & no balls being the typical DC status–revolting! I wonder if the Corporation vs the Republic comes into play here (assuming that’s even Real). A plain reading, straight-talking way of understanding the constitution could do wonders for freedom…like undoing Commerce Clause crap!!!

I think it’s issues with getting overloaded and moving databases to new servers. Our accounts are part of those databases. There was a period of time where I couldn’t see content from anyone’s feeds and I just chalked it up to growing pains and moved to other sites for a while (and took a nap). 🙂

I’m not sure I’m totally on board with this. It’s rather over dramatic.
And…once the mercenary cash is taken out of the equation in the cities burning, I do wonder how much of that is going to continue at the same level.
What the Church must be is relevant in the lives of the people who are part of Her, IMO. And THAT is where the hierarchy has not fulfilled its duty. That and not emphasizing the Sacraments as much as should be.
Last night, I was the cantor at a Vigil Mass for a fairly wealthy parish in the county. With COVID restrictions in place, we were at capacity. Over 70 people, including a number of families with small children.
This morning, I was the cantor at a parish in the city where the Churches – the big, beautiful historic ones – are dependent on tourism, sporting events and weddings. Few people live in downtown compared to other parts of the city. Today we had about a dozen people, but a couple weeks ago over two dozen. Since this has all started, the only Mass there where I’ve worked that has had more was Christmas Eve when the place was full. Not even the public funeral of a pillar of the community had two dozen mourners. What is interesting, is that a family member of the deceased and her husband have been to Mass there every Sunday since that funeral. There has to be a reason.
The Church has to be relevant in lives to attract the sinners to the hospital. This morning, the pastor at the Church in the City delivered some heart breaking news that one of the stalwart members of the clergy in the Archdiocese has terminal cancer. That prelate described the news and knowledge of being a desert. The pastor went on to talk about our personal deserts, and how the Church is there to get us through those times.
That is what needs to be emphasized, IMO. We want the answers to be simple, and the priests want the music “ministers” to do all the work for them in many ways. (In contrast, the professional musicians in the mix would prefer a return to actual professionalism. Not everyone’s soul is fed by a strummed guitar.) What we need is better preachers. That pulls people in better than anything else could.
Maybe that is why the Dominicans are on the rise.

It is what pregnant women are not eating and then feeding their babies food that is not healthy and then kids eating crap all the way into adulthood.
Parents do not know how to feed themselves healthy are passing this on to the next generation.

There was no military response thus you can bank on FEMA not standing up for this as FEMA is the connection point to any Military response. Also FEMA helps coordinate the Red Cross response also (at least at a national level) and I don’t remember hearing of any Red Cross response. Pretty much it looks like the Bidenese sat this one out as Slo Joe raced go carts in some arcade., which by itself is a tip off on how concerned they were by needing to show their apathy publicly.
Could there have been a reason why neither FEMA nor the Military responded? Is there a timetable under which they can or cannot act – we keep hearing ‘people need to see’ – is this what they need to see? the lack of response? If President Trump were president right now – they would have had the help they needed posts haste – there is a reason he must stay in the background – is the goal to unite the people?

Not enough for me to believe in the two things mixed.
Yes, there are pedos and child traffickers. Yes there are underground places. It is the mixture of the two that is specious junk (IMO) used to distract, discredit, and defeat.
There ARE a lot of very interesting underground “things” that MOST people don’t know about. Cavers know about some of them (ask Gail). Military know about others. “Tunnel collectors” know about still others.
I “tagged along” with some of these people. I WAS SURPRISED. So there is a lot of truth about underground facilities, places, etc. The things I saw were extremely “cool”.
But in my experience, underground places have ZERO to do with abducted kids etc.
Most hidden, abducted children are in basements, shacks, etc., on private property kept by their abductors. Trafficked teens are “hidden in plain sight” far away from their origins. “Safe houses” are easy. DUMBs? Who NEEDS ’em?
Human trafficking is MASSIVE, but we are fed disinformation to keep us looking at the wrong places.
IMO.
But here is the thing about these fact checkers. They are not much better. They deny the worst disinformation, but they also deny things which are real. So I have little use for MSM fact checkers.
BECAUSE of the leftist bias of the MSM and fake fact-checkers like Snopes, on top of the Democrats and all their lies, I’m extremely incensed by ‘our side’ putting out false information, rumors, unproven/unprovable stuff….for clicks, cash and celebrity.
I don’t know if it’s all “our side”, frankly. I watched some of the earliest “fake news” and then the MSM (NYT, WaPo) stories on fake news manufacture, and much of it looked CIA-groomed as a set-up to justify censorship and “fact checking” of social media.
In other words, they create the problem – to create their real goal – THE SOLUTION.
Our problem is parroting the stuff with insufficient skepticism.
It’s not ALL our side, but it makes me more upset to find ‘our side’ putting out far-out disinformation. Makes me think they are real MOCKINGbird media – discrediting real conservatives.
Disinformation – conspiracy theories – manufactured by the left – could be used to distract us from the massive human trafficking. It’s hard to face and focus our attention upon human trafficking, because it’s an atrocity – so repugnant, inhumane, cruel and ugly – that it is a trauma to behold it.

Add to any of these anything built in the last 100 years which will be much more extensive and I think we have the makings for lots of speculation built on guarded secrets or protected information because the gate keepers believe rightly or not that johnny Q just doesn’t need to know what’s down there.
Who controls all these tunnels or information on them? Government, Business, private? How many are known to exist, thought to exist, forgotten. Known to whom? What’s Mapped out with public access? or mapped out with the maps stored in The Circumlocution Office? Or just not mapped at all?
Once a tunnel falls out from its original use, unless it’s destroyed it likely takes up a secondary purpose and then later a new purpose. Out of sight out of mind is rather attractive for nefarious purposes.
Most big cities in the east have tunnel systems under them for one reason or another. We have rail tunnels under the streets. In parts of downtown, the streets were built up to two stories above grade to accommodate the effort. The tunnel used by the light rail system is from the late 19th century, and was owned by the Cupples Station people. It was used for hauling freight from the river to the warehouses (9 still stand).

I really think most of what is put out about the tunnels and the kids, etc., is a mixture of truth and disinformation, and we have to sift out which is which.
The tunnel maps and rumors have been around for decades. I’ve seen pictures of the entrances and the storage space available. Also, the storm drains in Los Angeles and New York are suspect. NOT SEWERS. The parallel drainage system for stormwater runoff that goes from the gutters on the side of the street(s) straight to a river or other body of water. There are no treatment plants that would impede movement in them. Last year when there were explosions in the system in LA, I got into it with people here who kept saying the explosions were sewer gas, and I kept telling them they were STORM DRAINS, not the same thing. Sewer lines here are under the stormwater drainage system.
At any rate, I’m not discounting any of it, especially with a number of earthquakes recently at 10km underground, which is supposedly the depth of D.U.M.B.s. That’s the one I don’t really get, since coming up from that depth might well require a decompression chamber.
At any rate, it’s getting interesting and I don’t know that we’re going to know the whole truth right away, if ever.

There does seem to be proof of massive child trafficking and p0rn, however.

I became a researcher ~ 15 years ago – and much of what I found was hard to believe – however – when I began making connections (by myself and through others) – the truth became crystal clear – the corporation – the Act of 1871 – the Federal Reserve – the lopsided financial system – you name it – it was all connected – those connections are ‘proof’ positive about how we were fooled – what they did – how they did it – and why they did it – the NWO group has been working on this for centuries – and they have succeeded to a point – now – we have an opportunity to blow it all open – but, most people would not have the stomach for the ‘truth’!!!

One thing to consider – EVERY city and state in our country is incorporated – a corporation – this enables it to function, pave/repair streets, pick up garbage, own buildings and property, put in traffic lights, hire, pay law enforcement, pass laws for them to enforce, manage funds, payrolls, etc.
Yes, they are – that is why people are being encouraged to get involved in their local and state governments – however – it is quite possible when the Republic is restored – these governments could be dissolved – hey, a girl can hope.
I really don’t see anything harmful to our Republic about incorporated cities. They have to be a business to conduct business.
Well – if our government was ‘incorporated’ and we have been governed by a foreign entity – then, perhaps the local and state governments have been ‘corrupted’ as well.

I never heard of that website – not sure I would take anything they said as truth – I can find contrary articles to any argument – history has been changed – and much of what we were taught in school is not correct – but, thanks for the offer.
We all have our entrenched ideas and beliefs – but I will tell you that all the articles I saw were spurious pseudo-legal stuff. I have two daughters and a nephew who are lawyers, a few cousins who are lawyers. We have more doctors in our family than lawyers, though. It sure has helped with my daughter’s longerm (35) years disability. It also helps me to have a foundation to read the stuff going around about covid and the various legal rumors.
That is truly a blessing, Georgia – to have medial personnel close – and lawyers would be able to explain much of the material we have been spoon-fed about the law – how it works in our corrupt courts.
