The woman with the blood issue was a big deal. I wrote a post — exegesis — on her last Saturday. She was a total outcast because of her uncleanliness under Mosaic law. Physically, she must have felt really weak day after day, year after year, for 12 years. She had spent all her money on useless remedies from physicians she trusted.
I cited two clergymen’s commentaries on the matter, one from the 17th century and one who is still alive and preaching. They are Protestants, though. They say that she made a full confession of her sins after being healed in front of the crowd. Mark says she told Jesus the ‘whole truth’. When He said that her faith had saved her, he meant more than a physical healing. He meant spiritually, too.
I’m not asking you to read my post, just saying that if you do a post — especially summarising what the pastor you heard say — I would definitely read it.
My problem was that two priests glossed over her. They happen to be good friends and are both light in the loafers, but their emphasis was the father of the 12 year old girl. Not to slight that account, but women who have that problem are anemic, they don’t feel good ever, they are not really in pain, but uncomfortable and ALWAYS in need of a ladies room.
It just hit me wrong. Here is someone abused by the system – the sort of person the Church should serve – and she’s not given the attention she deserves.
