As such, I was trying to integrate the structure into contemporary road use as a “rest stop” rather than a separate structure with separate meaning [I could also have used “Toll Booth”].
There are a number of curious monoliths and stone structures around — many conveniently located near the sources of their stones, but some quite a ways away. And much discussion could be made about same. But I was really trying for a quick juxtaposition joke about “pavement”.

If you think you’re having a rough day… imagine being a member of the Taliban, finding an empty airfield full of abandoned American helicopters, and having to learn how to fly them based simply off of youtube tutorials…
I actually think that I could do it….in about 6-8 months. Basic, simple, level flight. No computer functions or armaments.
No offense, but I’d rather have FGaC.🥰
I don’t know if FGaC does whirlybirds, but I’d rather have him do hot-air balloons when it comes to that.
But if I had to get a helicopter to lift, hover, move forward and backward, left and right, and land…..I think I could get that in 6-8 months. At which point the chopper would have several months of deferred maintenance and be rapidly approaching “unsafe”.
If they’re going to fly them, they’ll need to maintain them in airworthy condition and train up some pilots (likely with ChiCom assistance), and the “training incidents” are going to be cruel.
…..and, then, there’s the Hindu Kush. Some native chopper pilot tells me he’s going in there, and I’ll ask him to land first so I can walk back to the base.

Regarding Afghanistan and beyond; I believe we have passed the point of salvation for our senior military leaders and politicians. We have allowed military and civilian lawyers (read rules of engagement restrictions) to become all powerful and our Generals (indecisive and risk averse) to become nothing more than career seeking politicians. Those are 2 big reasons we have continued to fight and lose wars (we are trained at participating in wars and untrained at winning wars since WWII). AFG is a sad situation, as were the kurds in Iraq, but at least Trump pushed our respect internationally (being tough and smart is better than being tough and stupid). Today I don’t believe America is respected the way we were only a few short months ago. More countries visit China these days than come to the U.S. and China is prepped to recognize the Taliban once they declare the Islamic State simply to embarrass us. My sense is Taiwan is having some incredibly uncomfortable internal discussions (American apathy is likely starting to sink in). As are a lot of US allies in Europe. I also believe China is doing a lot of war gaming of costs and benefits currently with respect to the south China sea and Europe. We are now in a fully engaged information war. Soon it may be worse—I pray our senior military leadership is intensely planning all options—the best plan offers the most options at the last possible moment. So now we wait. Trust me, our enemies are not waiting. They plan and they don’t care about stupid mask policies or fake insurrection BS. Our enemies will be working on the next three vulnerabilities we haven’t even thought about. I believe Russia and China are clear eyed on our corrupt political leadership that they and many other nations no longer respect nor fear. America will come back and soon but it will come at a cost. If the bureaucracy in WDC (esp., DOD, State and the IC) want to keep acting like utopian ideologues, we will lose, if you find your courage, we will win. I say step up, stand up and straighten up your backbones, demand far better from your leaders and let’s start winning again.

Looking at the video I think the biggest mistake US made is training the Afghans to fight like us instead their traditional way. That is in their blood to fight the way they do and they might have stopped the Taliban. That said it is like taking a watch dog and turn them into a hunting dog. Who would be more effective hunting the one who is bread for it or the one who was trained into it? Or take a Schnauzer and tun them into a Herding dog.
They trained them to rely on satellite intel and comms, and air support just like our Military uses. We provided aviation mechanics and maintenance for them. Then Creepy ordered all those contractors that were providing these services to leave and the army was basically helpless without that support. There was NO reason for that, NO reason why those critical services weren’t re-negotiated and kept intact. And Why wouldn’t crooked Afghan govt pony up the cash to keep paying the contractors? Ghani looted the country’s cash and gave the people over to the Taliban. He should be hated for the outcome just like Creepy. It burns me up that Ghani was playing a pre-recorded message on Saturday saying everything’s fine, knowing all along and probably all packed for his departure the next morning. Hey Q-Tree family. We made it through Wedding Weekend!!! We are tired, sore, thankful, & joyful. Everything went better than expected & so many family & friends stepped up & helped out in small & large ways to make the day run so smoothly.
The ceremony was reflective of the bridal couple’s personalities & playfulness (our daughter literally spent the day barefoot–her only admitted wedding desire). She wore my wedding dress, slightly modified, & she & the dress got rave reviews–still gorgeous after almost 30 years!
God was glorified in so many ways via the ceremony & the celebration afterward. My daughter literally experienced her first Ever kiss when the pastor said “you may now kiss your bride”. Her choice to save herself to that degree for her future husband was a moving testimony to God’s grace & strength, & her now husband’s ability to honor her choice revealed his patience & tender loving care of her as a treasured, precious gift from God. Numerous people, even non-Christians, remarked on how this moved them!
We met a number of people on the groom’s side & were pleasantly surprised to discover a strong thread of conservative patriotism (clued in on the election & CV crap, etc). We’d thought that the groom’s family were mostly lefties, but perhaps that’s just more on one side only. I’d planned to not talk “issues” w/ anyone, to avoid controversy (not easy for me), but when approached by the groom’s relative who asked if we might be conservative, since my husband had told hunting stories about our daughter, well then we were off to the races!
One unexpected blessing was one of the groom’s relative’s recounting of his step’s to get a relative’s & several friends Clot Shot Exemptions that were ACCEPTED by the University of Michigan!!! I shared the details of these steps later w/ my son w/ the as-yet un-met in person Canadian girlfriend, so perhaps some of these techniques can assist him, & others, as they seek to protect their autonomy & health!!!
The ceremony & reception were in the neighborhood where the groom’s grandma had grown up, so even just environmentally that side of the family felt a bit as if they were coming home in having the celebration in their former community (this was completely unexpected for our side, but God’s graciousness in knitting the families together).
We really had a lovely, though exhausting, time throughout the weekend. It’s been crazy with storms, flooding, power outages (including at the church, my parents’ house, & my local brother’s home). The church was unexpectedly hosting a huge contingent of Samaritan’s Purse flood clean-up teams who’ve been there for months & were not expected to still be there by the time of the wedding, but additional local flooding has had them stay much longer to continue their ministry in the local area. In fact, once my daughter gets back from her honeymoon she plans to do some flood clean up work w/ SP before starting her new job…
Thanks so much for your prayers for me & my family over the years. God was with us & helped us all get through the many joys, tasks, & challenges associated w/ wedding planning & execution. Whew…glad to set this one down, deal with the aftermath, & after a bit of a break begin working on Josiah’s wedding planned for next Summer–yikes!
Well I hope to get some catch-up reading done around here but back pain may keep me away from the computer more than usual. So glad Wolf’s Pack is circling the threats in the wild & keeping the scent of both predators & prey front & center. Wolf’s Pack Rules!

Oh, brief ground report related to the wedding:
Masked attendees were no more than 2% of guests, & mostly appeared to be 20-somethings. Church had no mask signage outside but a small placard inside “masks requested” which virtually everyone ignored!!!
Observing people out in public most people that were masked were “ethnic”, black &/or muslim, including walking or biking Alone Outside–sigh.
Some food establishments had cash discounts or upcharges for using credit, not clearly marked. One would accept checks.
No obvious uptick in covid limitations impacted this weekend (I’d been concerned because of rumblings about certain dates last week).
At the restaurant where the rehearsal dinner happened, south suburb in Metro-Detroit, almost all staff were masked, not sure if by choice. The 2 guys cleaning up our room at the end were au naturel & when I remarked how nice it was to see their faces the one remarked that he was “a free man”! He looked to be a teen or early 20’s–still hope!
I’m very thankful that we didn’t experience much covid-naziism related to this wedding, unlike so many people in the last year & a half. God was gracious to us 🙂

My opinion: Do not, under any circumstances, allow the “all the way up the nostril close to the brain” nasal swab test. Insist on the Anterior Nasal Swab Specimen test to be used. This is the least invasive one. And not the standard PCR test, which is garbage. A saliva-based test is also an option to insist on. Any provider / employer who says there aren’t any other tests except the deep-nasal swab are lying.

Regarding Afghanistan and beyond; I believe we have passed the point of salvation for our senior military leaders and politicians. We have allowed military and civilian lawyers (read rules of engagement restrictions) to become all powerful and our Generals (indecisive and risk averse) to become nothing more than career seeking politicians. Those are 2 big reasons we have continued to fight and lose wars (we are trained at participating in wars and untrained at winning wars since WWII). AFG is a sad situation, as were the kurds in Iraq, but at least Trump pushed our respect internationally (being tough and smart is better than being tough and stupid). Today I don’t believe America is respected the way we were only a few short months ago. More countries visit China these days than come to the U.S. and China is prepped to recognize the Taliban once they declare the Islamic State simply to embarrass us. My sense is Taiwan is having some incredibly uncomfortable internal discussions (American apathy is likely starting to sink in). As are a lot of US allies in Europe. I also believe China is doing a lot of war gaming of costs and benefits currently with respect to the south China sea and Europe. We are now in a fully engaged information war. Soon it may be worse—I pray our senior military leadership is intensely planning all options—the best plan offers the most options at the last possible moment. So now we wait. Trust me, our enemies are not waiting. They plan and they don’t care about stupid mask policies or fake insurrection BS. Our enemies will be working on the next three vulnerabilities we haven’t even thought about. I believe Russia and China are clear eyed on our corrupt political leadership that they and many other nations no longer respect nor fear. America will come back and soon but it will come at a cost. If the bureaucracy in WDC (esp., DOD, State and the IC) want to keep acting like utopian ideologues, we will lose, if you find your courage, we will win.
