Greater Is He . . .
In writing to his “dear children” in the Lord, the apostle John tells them that “the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). The contrast here is between the Spirit of Christ and the spirit of antichrist; in short, God is greater than Satan.
First John 4 begins with an exhortation for believers to test the spirits of prophets or teachers: “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). What a prophet or teacher proclaims reveals whether he is of God or a false prophet of the world. John tells us how to recognize a false prophet: “Every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist” (verse 3). Anyone who teaches or proclaims falsehood about Jesus, such as denying His divinity, is a false prophet. These false prophets are actually speaking in the spirit of the antichrist on behalf of “the one who is in the world,” Satan.
The word antichrist means “against Christ.” Satan is the ultimate spirit against Christ. He is the father of lies and is against truth (John 8:44). He is called “the ruler of this world” (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11) and “the god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4). He is “the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient” (Ephesians 2:2). Satan uses false prophets to lead people away from Christ by deceiving them with a false view of Jesus. Twisting who Jesus is perverts the gospel. It keeps people in the bondage of sin and in darkness. Yet Satan is not as powerful as God, and John reminds the believers in 1 John 4:4 that greater is He that is in believers than he that is in the world.
The bodies of believers are the temples of the Holy Spirit who dwells within them (1 Corinthians 6:19). John encourages those in whom God lives: “You are from God” (1 John 4:4, ESV). They are not of the world. John reassures them that they have “overcome” those who teach false doctrine and who can rightly be called “antichrists.”
John uses the concept of “overcoming” five other times in 1 John: believers have overcome the evil one (1 John 2:13, 14) and have overcome the world (three times in 1 John 5:4–5). The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead now indwells believers in Christ (Romans 8:11). The Holy Spirit is far stronger than Satan or any of his minions, the Spirit’s wisdom is greater than any of Satan’s schemes, and the Spirit’s protection is more than enough to thwart any of Satan’s attacks. Because he who is in us is greater than he who is in the world, we have confidence in God and at the same time put no confidence in the flesh. The power is not ours but the Holy Spirit’s.
By these encouragements believers can have peace and rejoice because Jesus has “overcome the world” (John 16:33). Believers need not fear Satan; rather, they trust in the Lord and obey Him. By the living Spirit of God within them, believers can overcome the lies and temptations of the powers of darkness. Those who are of God can boldly say, “Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world.”

This discussion brings a couple of thoughts to mind.
There used to be, and perhaps still are, some individuals travelling around holding seminars to make us more aware of the power of satan and his minions. Then, if we pray a specially worded prayer or invoke the power of certain passages in God’s Word, we could be protected from satan’s power. I had skepticism then, and have it now when someone tells me I need more than the presence of God by His Holy Spirit, actually dwelling inside me, to ward off attacks by satan or his underlings. God has provided us what we need and we should rest assured in the palm of His hand.
The second thought is that of people who say that because we are adopted into God’s family, we now have the power to command the powers of darkness or to invoke certain promises from God’s Word that will then require God to act on our behalf. As pertains to commanding the powers of darkness, we are nothing. God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are everything. God has already promised to keep us safely in His care . . . our job, if you will, is to believe and trust what God is telling us . . . that is how we resist the devil. This should actually give us great comfort as opposed to figuring out how we can directly act to bind the devil. It is not for nothing that God’s Word tells us “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.”

However the $$$ received and where they go IS of importance and that seems to be his concern, as is the FULL AUDIT.
They usually are available at line item level. The roll-up is another story. An annual report would have financials, and the audit available for major gift solicitation.

Yes. With all that I’m seeing, I don’t want to donate to any of those patriot organizations or nonprofits because my trust is broken. That’s not good. Some accountability would help.

I know there are others who are not public figures. And no doubt there are public figures that I haven’t named. I remember reading a science essay from the early 1960s where the point was made that (looking at the *major* constitutents of living things, H, C, N, O, S and P) phosphorus was the one that on land was least abundant relative to how much life needed it. In other words if you were to make as many living things as possible out of the land, you’d run out of phosphorus first.
The article went on to point out that phosphorus is being flushed into the ocean and really the only way it could get back onto land was seagull poop. So a very-long-term doom scenario was painted where life on land, would over hundreds of millions of years, end up going extinct for lack of phosphorus.
Of course, at the time the article was written plate tectonics was *not* understood, and that apparently does a good job recycling things in the long term.
That, alas, won’t help us with our man-made topsoil issues, so I know that was all off topic.

It occurs to me that the bigger issue for many might just be heavily processed food.
Grains in particular–including breakfast cereal–seem to be especially bad. Diabetes didn’t used to be so dang common (and a good thing too given what we had to do to make insulin back then–expensive!!!!).
Where the heck did we come up with the idea of corn flakes for breakfast, anyway? On my trips to Europe, it was pretty clear that the only people who eat that shit (and similar products) for breakfast are Americans.
Super frosted sugar bombs were petaled as a FAST breakfast to Moms along with the HORRORS of eggs and bacon and milk.
Actually I could cook eggs & bacon and a cup of tea easily by organizing my dressing and showering for work and cooking. (I really loved that gas stove and my cast iron skillet.)
The Kelloggs were and are Seventh Day Adventists and are vegetarian by the tenets of that sect. The inventor of most of those breakfast foods, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg came up with Wheaties and some of the others when he was in med school and would need to have something to eat after hours.
And we must not forget that we are also dealing with those cereals being concocted of GMO grains.
I found out getting into Kefir making that most milk is ultra pasteurized and all nutience are taken out. I have a hard time finding milk that is not ultra pasteurized.
I am trying to make Kefir with coconut milk took 3 cans to get some worth wile kefir grains.
Remember kefir is good against inflammation and covid.
I looked for goat milk the same thing.
When I go next week to Columbus I can get the right milk in glass bottles. I am almost giving up.

Yes most flour has bromide added almost all prepared food has. They switched from iodine to bromide.

Salt over here isn’t iodized anymore, at least that which is used in food preparation/manufacturing.
It’s available in stores, of course, but usually combined with FLUORIDE!!!!! which is not a good idea at all… Big Pharma gotta pharm, I guess…
And, at least in south Germany, most people have iodine deficiency (just look at the prevalence of goiter in the Schwarzwald)…

I was taking Iodoral but have not been able to find it lately so I am now taking Tri-Iodine by Terry Naturally from my local vitamin shop.

12.5 mg + 15.0 from my multi-vit.
Iodoral goes up to 25 mg and 50 mg.
Terry goes to 25 mg.
I originally was taking 25 mg Iodoral which I prefer since it is Potassium based instead of 1/2 sodium based.

The only caveats with Potassium-based Iodine supplements would be for people on diuretics (aka water pills) that are Potassium-sparing, or on ACE Inhibitors.
Not many people, but it’s worth mentioning (and Spironlactone has some, erm, interesting off-label uses(!) ).

My son is on something that is an ACE inhibitor, iirc. It is either the Lisonpril or the Clonadine, I believe.
He had Lasix AND Aldactone when he was post-op from his first open-heart surgery & recovering from Congestive Heart Failure as a 2 month old…hmmm
Lasix (Furosemid) is basically a “potassium flushing” diuretic, while Aldactone is potassium-sparing. That’s a common combination (my son had the same combo when he had severe heart problems).
The big issue with Lasix is that it can be ototoxic when combined with certain antibiotics, e.g. Aminoglycosides (the -mycins). Works like a champ, other than that.
It’s always good to get the electrolytes checked every so often – Calcium, Potassium, Sodium, and Magnesium. Imbalance among them is not good for folks with heart (or kidney) issues…

Gail, municipal water supplies are a big offender when it comes to the increase in thyroid troubles.
Iodine is displaced by the two other halogens in addition to bromine…both of which are used in municipal water treatment. The water treatment players are Fluoride and Chloride.
I’ve been using J.Crow’s Lugol’s Solution 2%, one or two drops a day (a 2-oz bottle has about 1200 drops). If we had a nearby nuclear detonation, that would immediately go up to 40+ drops/day, depending on how closely I could calculate it in the aftermath.

I grew up in a small Missouri town on the banks of the Mississippi River and each April, we got flooding. It left silt behind as the water levels fell. My parents’ home was four lots and we could toss plants into the yard and they would grow. The dirt was rich black and the plants loved it.The “bottoms” land was very fertile too and farmers grow corn, beans, and other crops there even though there is a risk of flooding.
Based on my back-home experience, my thought is: All the nutrients end up down river. I lived down river.

I’m so thankful that my husband made it home safely from his East Coast excursion to see his brothers. He ended up driving 17 hours straight through to beat (mostly) a fairly heavy snowstorm. He had a great visit, & though Dave hasn’t accepted Christ yet, Michael was able to live out his faith in non-confrontational love with his brother.
We were blessed yesterday to see Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan Wolverines Finally defeat Ohio State in a storied grudge match. Final score was 42 to 27. DP might be happy to know that a St. Louis bred player scored 5 rushing touchdowns to tie a school record. My son Josiah & his fiancée Rose were Very involved in cheering for this game.
Speaking of Josiah I would appreciate prayers for his upcoming brain MRI, scheduled Tuesday morning. He’s overdue for such a scan anyway (following a pituitary adenoma removed transphenoidally a bit over a decade ago now). But he’s been having recent intense headaches, a bit diminished in the last few weeks thankfully, AND quite troubling bouts of falling down. His right leg has just started randomly buckling so he is often using a cane to keep from falling down. These are new symptoms in his very complicated medical existence. It’s still an encouragement to see & hear how he glorifies God & is mostly peaceful with his unconventional life & uncertain future. God is good!
OK, I hinted at a secret I was waiting to spill the other day. We’d been sworn to secrecy until the news had been shared more broadly by the involved parties. Well at our Thanksgiving desert gathering we were able to get my husband on a video phone call so he could also share in the joy of our oldest son & his wife announcing to his siblings “you’re all going to be aunts & uncles” pretty soon!
Yes, the big secret is my husband & I are to be grandparents for the 1st time next June!!!
It’s interesting, but my youngest brother’s oldest daughter, the only one of his married yet, is expecting & due near the 1st of the year. We’d heard that my other brother’s daughter was now expecting & due sometime in June. I’d been praying for the next generation upcoming, AND for God’s timing & protection in particular (given all the covid & clot shot horrors being inflicted globally) in His creation of our future family generations. We’d been joking in the family about who might get pregnant first, our recently married daughter, or our daughter in law who’d been rumored to be trying to get pregnant for some months now…
Anyway, my parents, who are both in their early 80’s are now expecting their first Great-Grandkids, & (at least) one per each of their 3 children’s bloodlines, & this momentous development will happen in the year of their 60th wedding anniversary! My mom pointed out that Dad’s sister, who has almost a half dozen great-grands has None that were born in wedlock & maybe just one born to a Christian parent. By contrast ALL of my parents’ children AND grandchildren are quite strong Christians AND all the great-grandkids are coming into Christian marriages! This is becoming rather remarkable in these dark days.
My son is planning on supporting his wife & child AND they plan to homeschool. My daughter & her husband (finishing up student teaching to become a special ed teacher himself) are in agreement & plan on making similar arrangements whenever they too become expectant parents. This is also true of my youngest brother’s daughter, but I’m not sure about the niece in OK. We are talking traditional Christian homeschooling families!!! Oh & only my youngest brother’s kids were homeschooled…
We as an extended family clan are still overall being more a part of the solution than a part of the problem–to God be the Glory!!!

1) 90% of people are wearing masks. From freedom to subservience overnight, for no valid reason.
2) BUT 10% are NOT wearing masks, an act of defiance, and this number is far, far less than the number of people who think the masks are ridiculous. Last time around, everyone complied.
3) My wife and I have received zero negative reaction, from people or venues, EXCEPT for when my wife went shopping in one store with the “mandated” sign that masks were required. My wife went in, was shopping, and an apparatchik in her 70’s rushed up to my wife and screamed/hissed “put a mask on NOW.” My wife said she kept her calm and replied, “I am not putting on a mask, and you cannot make me do it.” The apparatchik ran to the manager who tracked down my wife and said, “We have had a customer complaint. Do you know that masks are mandatory?” My wife said yes, and the manager asked “Are you going to put one on?” and my wife said no. The manager said “ok” and walked away. My wife continued shopping with no further disturbance, and the apparatchik disappeared.
4) Like kalbo said yesterday in telling about his encounter with the Salvation Army ringer, we need to stand up for ourselves, and stand up TO our fellow citizens who are empowered by baloney.

A very good, very intelligent Christian friend told me to watch. He said the series was excellent, and absolutely faithful to the Bible. My friend would know.
Having said that, the producers explain that the series does contain aspects implied by the Bible and consistent with the Bible, which are included for narrative purposes. My friend said there was nothing wrong with these aspects.
My friend also said that the series gets better and better, that it starts out slow to develop background, to stay with it.
I watched the first couple episodes, and they are focused on Nicodemus as a device for getting into the story, introducing Mary Magdalene, Peter, etc.
The acting is very good, and the production values are excellent. Very well done. My only “complaint” is that the actors/actresses look a little too perfect, if that makes any sense. The dentistry in the series, for instance, is a little too 21st century.

The guy who plays Jesus makes it worth it. They try to stay true to Scripture while fictionalizing the everyday lives of Jesus and His followers.
Hard to accomplish.
FG&C: just re-watched the first two episodes. Those are the only two I watched months ago before I stopped. My reaction was favorable the first time, but in re-watching I was far more engaged. The end of the first episode was quite moving, as was the end of the second.
I think re-watching was a better experience because I already knew how the series was structured. I was able to see the characters more in focus, with more appreciation of what the producers were doing.
This is similar to an HBO type of series (including the music) but in a GOOD way. I can see why so many people love it.
BTW, there is a writer on Patheos named Peter Chattaway who has written a wonderful synopsis of each episode, including historical context and comparison to the Gospels.
