At times, we’ll hear someone proclaim that we’re all God’s children because He made each one of us. And then they’ll go on to say that because we’re all God’s children, we’ve got to give great respect to others’ beliefs and customs, even when they involve openly denying that Jesus is the Messiah and the only Way to God, and involve practices such as honor killings, and abuse, including death, to people who don’t belong to their religion.
God’ Word is clear on who are the children of God . . . only those who put their trust in Jesus as Messiah, our Savior.
What I want to emphasize in this preface is that I don’t believe that any of us, myself certainly included, understand the enormity and wonder that result from being adopted into God’s family. I honestly believe that the full impact of being in God’s family can’t be understood or felt by us as long as we’re in our flawed bodies, using our limited minds and viewing everything as though reflected from a mirror – dimly and blurred.
Because of this inability, I don’t believe we respond as we should in our lives to the fact that truly, we are adopted into God’s family as His children and, if we can possibly wrap our minds around this, we are co-heirs with Christ of everything in God’s kingdom for all eternity.
Children of God 1
It is God’s great love that takes the initiative to make us the children of God. This extravagant outpouring of our heavenly Father’s love made the apostle John marvel: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1).
Being children of God means we have been born into God’s family. We become God’s children through faith in Jesus Christ, which results in spiritual rebirth: “But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God” (John 1:12–13; Galatians 3:26; 1 John 5:1).
Jesus taught that only the children of God experience new birth and the opportunity to see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). When we hear the gospel message, repent and confess our sins, and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, at that moment we are born into God’s family. We become a child of God and co-heir with Christ of everything in God’s kingdom for all eternity (Ephesians 1:13–14; Romans 8:14–17). All that God has given to His Son in the kingdom belongs to us as His children, as well.
Presently, we have only limited knowledge of what it means to be children of God: “We are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure” (1 John 3:2–3, NLT). When we see Jesus face to face, our understanding of what it means to be children of God will be expanded (2 Corinthians 3:18). Yet, John explained, even a partial grasp of our status as children of God will make us want to live pure and holy lives.
John continued with a challenging teaching about sin, concluding with these statements: “Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God” (1 John 3:9–10).
As children of God, we have a new nature “created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:24). Contemplating who we are as the children of God will cause us to think seriously about how we live and whom we serve. Will we pursue a life of holiness and obedience to God and His Word, or will we take on a lackadaisical attitude toward sin? Will we serve our heavenly Father or our sinful nature, “which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires” (verse 22)?
Children of the devil (see John 8:44) make a practice of sinning, but Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil in the lives of God’s children (1 John 3:8). As the children of God, we are new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), led by the Holy Spirit: “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God” (Romans 8:14). Although at times we still sin, a child of God has “an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous” (1 John 2:1). Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sins and restored us to a right relationship with God (2 Corinthians 5:21). We prove ourselves to be children of God by living to please and obey our heavenly Father (practicing righteousness) and by loving our brothers and sisters in the family of God (1 John 3:10).
Salvation in Christ is pictured not only as a rebirth but also as an adoption: “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son” (Ephesians 1:5–6; cf. Romans 8:15; Galatians 4:5).
It’s difficult to fully comprehend the love of our heavenly Father—a love that delights in transforming rebellious, undeserving sinners into the children of God. At times, like John, we can only marvel at being adopted into God’s family. Our security in God’s household does not depend on our behavior or performance. We owe our position as His sons and daughters all to our Father’s gracious love that purchased our salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ.
Our identity as children of God is hidden in Jesus Christ (Colossians 3:3; Galatians 3:26). We are no longer orphans or slaves, but sons and daughters (Galatians 4:4–7). We have a good father who loves us and will care for us and supply our needs for all eternity. Our purpose now, as the children of God, is to develop into our full stature and unique potential by becoming like Jesus: “For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters” (Romans 8:29).

Publius printed out Revelations for me, and said that the US is the Whore of Babylon, and her end is drawing nigh. So clear, he said, that it made him tremble. For my part, it’s difficult to follow that text.
That title used to be held by Constantinople back in its day.
In fact recently a mud headed leftist who thinks himself clever and bright, and comparable to Neil Stephenson, wrote a popular but very misleading and IMO despicable dystopian novel called “Cloud Cuckoo Land”. He told his story in three, actually four or wait… it was five separate time periods and he further subdivided a couple of those (he lost half his readership just by confusing them). Anyway, he used the last days of the fall of Constantinople as his back drop for the the story set in the past making it the veiled symbol for the fall of the USA, (that’s where I started cursing at the book). In the present part he added in a scene where the mother of one of the characters set in the present part of the story shows up at a prison, wearing a surgical mask, where her deluded climate changing son is being held after blowing up a school library (mind you this is one of the hero’s in the story). The part set in the future ends with the world the elite having accomplished their objective of depopulating the earth. Mind you all these things are hidden notions in the story. And practically none of the five star reviews picked any of that out. I seriously loathe that book and have barely scratched the surface on why.
Actually Constantinople has a very long and colorful eleven thousand year history and we in the west are very much in its debt. Judith Herrin’s 336 page history “Byzantium” does a great job of telling the story though it tends toward bringing out many of theological aspects of its history in the telling. Two years later, Lars Brownworth did another great job in 303 pages, in his “Lost to the West”. where he seems to have followed Herrin’s format, but pared off some the theological aspects producing a very readable, concise and exciting history. Both worth the read if your of mind for such.
In 2012 or so I read 1,000 pages of a PDF of writings of St. John Chrysostom.
It was so refreshing to read. He was open, honest and accurate. He was the archbishop of Constantinople. He could have written it today and it would still be current. The truth is always current.

A friend of mine is actually very much into dash cams and the like; he now had full 360 on his car (which is an expensive one, even by today’s standards). He told two stories of people he knew who got saved from tickets by them. In one case the miscreant was a guy with multiple passengers, all of whom backed up his lie. The hit-ee had to go to the police station the next day and show the cop the video, at which point things turned around. The cop had already been thinking about it and realized there were enough inconsistencies that he now believed the other group was lying; now he had proof.
In the other, a guy cut off the victim then jammed on the brakes, thereby getting rear ended. Of course the presumption is the rear-end-er is guilty and the rear-end-ee is not. In this case, however, the dash cam came out immediately and when the rear-end-ee continued to deny he had caused the accident the cop warned him about lying to the police. He did have the wits to shut up.

Further, many routers will serve as caching proxies for DNS — which also would allow them to spoof common websites into nonstandard IPs….

Finally done singing for the weekend. Too many people out of town, and I had three Masses this weekend. The last one was pretty sparse.
I will say that the people in the pews are not completely following the mask dictates. After the recessional downtown this morning, hardly anyone put them on to walk out of church, and the organist and I the pastor and administrator stood around yakking about the organ without them. Something is not right. The digital components suddenly have a mind of their own. It is assumed that the power lines were hit by lightning a couple weeks ago, and that’s what got zapped. It died during the Gloria.

When you talk about seizing/damaging property to “stop illegal activities”, it’s not about whether the activities are illegal, it’s how proximate the property is to the illegal activity.
You can’t shoot-out my tire while my car is parked in front of my house because it may be used in an illegal bank robbery. OTOH, if I just delivered three robbers to a bank branch and I’m waiting to be their getaway car, it is entirely legal to shoot-out my tire because it is being used in an illegal bank robbery.

(My opinion below is not aimed at you or anyone in particular. 😊)
There is something else that a lot of people don’t think is important, but I believe is very important. People want some part(s) of their lives to be normal. Football is a game with all that pertains to that: rooting for a person/team, betting on a team, camaraderie with friends, family time, etc. But it also represents America as we knew it, and, more superficially, a way to kick back and have a good time apart from politics.
And yes, I get all the bad parts — the BLM support, the disrespect for our flag and anthem, the need to vote with our clicks and dollars. I understand the reasons for boycotting sports, and I have done that with many because I can no longer watch people who espouse views antithetical to mine and who make those views public. But I have seen enough people in varied, and sometimes very sad, circumstances, who don’t deserve to have me place my expectations on them.
What always goes through my mind is “baseball, football, apple pie and Chevrolet” (kind of hard to stomach, as I’m a Ford guy)…
The DERP state have taken away our identity, our morals, our (and our children’s) innocence, our dreams, our future, our way of life, and are attempting to take away our FAITH.
Don’t let them do it.

I owned a 1979 Ford Mustang. I’d like to be a Ford guy (especially after having my GM stock deemed worthless so they could give taxpayer money to unions), but I’ll find it difficult to get over what a pain-in-the-ass that car was.
In my final 12 months of owning that dog, my cost of repairs was more than my down payment and 12 months of car payments (and repairs and maintenance!) on my next car.
I had a 1975 Ford Mustang II (aka stretched Pinto). First year of Ford’s electronic ignition, with reluctor, etc., replacing the reliable, not-very-expensive points and other bits (that could be easily bought at Pep Boys or Grand Auto). After a number of mishaps, Ford basically descended into replacing part after part after part, because they didn*t know what to do. Why didn’t they have the appropriate test equipment?????
Having said that, I’ve had or driven other Fords that were incredible. We had a 1963 Ford Country Sedan Station Wagon that is probably still going – 352 in³ engine, tons of power, comforable, and could go and go and go. Travelled across the USA every year in the 60s (but one) and into the 70s with nary a hitch (save for a crooked gas station owner one time). Also had a Scorpio (over here) that I drove all over Europe – 100K miles in 3.5 years… They’ve had duds, too… cousin had a Mercury Montego that was a disaster on wheels… Chevys just don’t do it for me… we had one when I was a wee bairn, but it had, erm issues…..
Worst of all was a Chrysler LeBaron wagon I had that almost caught fire in a gas station when the gas truck was filling the station’s tanks. Smoke started coming from the steering column wire harness, and I disconnected the battery to avoid worse (OK, MUCH WORSE) problems. Turns out it was a known problem with their wiring harness (chafing), but by then I’d gotten rid of it for a 280ZX. That could’ve been really ugly if the car had gone up…
That was after Chrysler had let go of all their good engineers (70s), sort of what Carly did with HP Labs… Still angry with her and it’s been more than 20 years…
In the short time I owned it (79-86), it went through multiple sets of tires until I learned to ignore factory toe-in (IIRC, 3 degrees!!!!!) and run the front wheels aligned dead parallel.
At one point while being pulled-over by the CHP, I noticed smoke coming out from under the hood of HIS “pursuit” Mustang — and I pointed to it and said, “My car does that! Why the hell does it do that?” He told me that the heads and the valve covers were made out of metals with different thermal expansion characteristics, so every time they got hot and cooled-down they would shear the valve-cover gaskets and they’d leak like sieves.
[It’s the only good thing I got out of that experience — at the scene, he told me he had been tracking me from a point before I got on that freeway — and I had expense-report evidence to support my route. Then he got on the stand and sang a completely different song. The lawyer rent-a-judge then sang a chorus about how he knew how it was driving along that boring section of road and had frequently caught himself speeding there. I know when it’s time to keep silent, but I was really very thankful he wasn’t a serial killer — “I know how it is, driving along that boring section of road, and then you see a hitchhiker and know you could garrote him and ditch the body and still get home before dinner is cold.”]
But I digress….
The Mustang went through 3 starters, two ring gears, and a transmission. About halfway through this process, it was noted that the engine was bolted to the frame but the transmission was not….this may have been a factory defect.
The Mustang went through a water pump and alternator — God alone knows why.
It had a “groundbreaking” new carburetor — the “variable venturi” carb, where one wall of the throat would move in-and-out, attached to a needle valve that would precisely meter gasoline through the wall of the throat. It was all analog, all aspirated, no injectors or sensors. When they ran it in the lab, it was at least a decade ahead of its time.
Problem was, when they ran it in the lab, they ran it with lab-grade research gasoline. After they released several thousand units to poor souls such as myself, they began to be run with the sort of gasoline you’d get at gas pumps…..
….which rapidly put a glaze on the surface of that precision needle valve and f’ed-up the advantages….until the glaze got thick enough that the needle would stick and the thing wouldn’t work as well as a regular carb. Which meant that my Mustang ate TWO CARBS during the time I owned it. And I couldn’t swap the carb for a Holley because of California smog.
Like I said, Ford was the most honorable American car company in that particular fiasco, but I kept wanting to scream at them about “making it up to me” for the grief from my ‘stang.

I was like, “I’m guilty because you’re an impulsive jackass.” I was on my way home from working overtime at a boring accounting assignment, driving the long-way around LA freeways because I didn’t want trouble, and holding to the speed limit — when I get pulled over by a CHP meeting his quota, and have to sign my life away for expedience* so some spoiled law-rat can fantasize about the sorts of wild degeneracy I WASN’T LIVING.
*I showed up to my court date, taking a day off of work to do so. I was told after I got there that I could see the rent-a-judge today or reschedule another date and take another day off of work (and possibly get another rent-a-judge on that day, while having the reputation of a troublemaker).
Yep. All the “smog” laws caused a world of hurt, and the car manufacturers were dragging their feet and putting sand in the gears (or in the gas, it seems). And we were the beta, and even alpha testers. My Mustang II (gelding, it seems) had their new-fangled electronic ignition which was nothing but problems.
They were replacing it part, by part, by part (at least starting with the cheapest stuff) because they didn’t have the proper test equipment (which only existed at the factory at that point) and they had no clue. They said they needed to order a new “reluctor” (fancy-a$$ name for the replacement for a distributor rotor) and that was x-hundred dollars, at which point I said forget it, and bought another car, albeit used. I don’t think they built them in Milpitas, otherwise the factory would’ve been only a 30-minute drive away…
I was, erm, reluctant to keep that car any longer, and I doubt any of the foolks at that dealer knew was reluctance means in electronics…
Would’ve been interesting to have a motor like that Yamaha in my Taurus SHO in that, but the torque probably would’ve bent that car in half… The SHO, of course, being another “adventure”.
I think a lot of good engineers left Ford and went to Chrysler with Iacocca…
In the mid-1980s I had a Ford Scorpio over here which ran, and ran, and ran. Something like 200K Km, with few problems, and at speeds Californians can dream of (legally). It didn’t have all the CA smog crap (that came in the next model year in Europe), and it was pretty well designed except for the instrument panel which looked like it congealed after returning from Mars…
Still, my VW Passat VR6 wagon was the best of all, 300K Km on the ticker when I gave it to a mechanic friend of mine (who could replace the timing chain… talk about living on borrowed time). He drove all the way down to Italy, over the Alps, etc., pulling a trailer, no less, drove some more, then lost the timing chain in a grocery store parking lot when leaving… probably had about 400k then… those VR6s were good mills, as were the SHO engines. The rest of the Tauri, not so much 🙂 And the gelded Mustang II…. neighhhhh nayyyyy…..
