You want something a couple of hundred degrees shy of melting point. It will probably be pretty soft above that.
That beings said an appropriate choice of metal for the poker can get you to over 3000K.
EDIT: Tungsten, melting point 3695K/6192F. There are other metals nearly as high but MUCH more expensive.
(Tantalum, rhenium and osmium are the other options. I’d not use osmium even if it were cheap, OsO4 is nasty stuff and would undoubtedly form at those temps).

Very interesting, and chilling, but you must be right. I can’t imagine Birx admitting those things. They undermine her professional credibility and her trustworthiness as an administrator. She is admitting subverting the agenda of the administration for which she was hired to work — and not in the distant past, either; it’s recent history. The man who was in charge then, Trump, is still hugely influential, is in the public eye, and continues to lead the movement he started. I imagine that, if not for Ivana’s tragic death, he would have already tweeted about this.
There is something very wrong with her admitting this stuff.
I think she feels like (1) Trump will never be back in office, (2) even if Republicans get back in, it will be “Pence types” who approved of her skulduggery, (3) she will never be tried for what she’s admitting, and (4) she may just impress some Democrat with her “revolutionary fervor” and get back into a position of responsibility.
But I don’t think she would make these admissions just for those reasons. I think there is something more – and that could be a kind of instinctive distraction from a real scandal that’s boiling up, and was never supposed to be noticed by anybody.
People almost always preface “Bill Gates” with “depopulationist” any more. THAT is the power of the internet.
Yes, because her betrayal is not just about Trump. It’s about the millions of people who were denied visits with their loved ones, those who had to close their businesses and lost their livelihoods, those who had to deal with job losses and school children at home and all kinds of lost opportunities, etc. So Birx is risking the wrath of all of those people, most of whom trusted that “the government” was acting in their best interest. So, I’m thinking of doing something stupid.
There’s an event — https://www.good-guys.com/wcn — which has traditionally had WeMe [ https://www.baemclub.com/pages/WEME_Event.html ]. It hasn’t happened for some years because (a) COVID; (b) some f’in Karens complained that running model engines for roughly 3 minutes smelled like cancer, carbon monoxide poisoning, and global warming; and (c) the fire marshal went bananas about flammable substances — in the middle of a hot rod show.
Before it got shot down, I actually took my lathe up to the show and knurled aluminum for the kiddies and parted it off. That was actually very fun, as few of them had ever seen a lathe do anything. I didn’t do any “real” lathe operations as they tend to throw off a bunch of swarf which is sharp — and they operate at speeds where catching a lock of hair and ripping-off a scalp can be very quick.
With all the wonderful operating engine models around, it’s cool to demonstrate that they are all made with two machine tools — a lathe and a mill. A mill clamps the workpiece in place and moves it against a spinning tool, while a lathe spins the workpiece and moves it against a tool that is clamped in place.
The reasons that this is such a bad idea is that my left shoulder is currently torqued and unable to lift with an appropriate range of motion to maneuver the lathe. Further, I’ve got a herniated umbilicus that could become a serious problem with little warning. If I end up with surgery for it, I’m looking at 6 weeks of recovery where I’m forbidden to lift more than 20 pounds….which is nothing (the lathe is probably about 80 pounds).
That said, it might be fun to attend the show, and the club President has a bunch of “steam” model engines to run off of compressed air.

I once fainted about midway down a flight of steep stairs. I “came to” just as my head hit the bottom step. Two of my kids, aged 8 and 12, were home, and panicked. I managed to get them to give me a phone to call for help. Trip to the ER for stitches and a concussion were the result, but I was VERY blessed and lucky.
So WHY injuries to the TORSO as cause of death?

Ruptured spleen is one thing. Trauma to the heart causing an interruption to the beating cycle is another possibility. Ripped lung causing a collapse is yet another.

Mini ground report. When returning from Northern Michigan nearly a week after the 4th I was paying attention to gas prices. The prices in the Gaylord area had been less than those in Metro Detroit before the holiday, historically they’re usually 10 cents more.
Leaving town we saw $4.69, then around Flint it was $4.79. We hit Telegraph road in Oakland County & down through Wayne County. It went up to $4.89 & then started skipping around a bit, at one point it was $4.49 like a mile South of where it had been $4.89. Most prices ended in 9 & a few in 5 but between those 2 limits.
The station near our house was $4.49 but one week later it was $4.29. My mom mentioned that she’d seen it as low as $4.09 recently but I haven’t.
Another price change is that certain “Dollar Stores” have now raised their prices to $1.25 per item…a first ever in my probably 2 decades of shopping in them…
In our family situation the weekend was busy with a bridal shower for our future daughter-in-law, music ministry, baptisms (again) for the engaged couple, & street ministry for 3 of our 4 kids. Josiah’s wedding is in less than 2 weeks…
My husband ended up separating from his recently acquired trucking job. He got a pretty severe case of sunstroke on his 3rd day in the field & discovered that some of the technology being used to track the fuel acquisition & delivery was faulty. He has an over-the-road job that begins right after J’s wedding, though is continuing to look for local options so that he might be home nightly. The OTR is good training on both enclosed trailers & flat beds so he is willing to work there for 6 months to a year, if need be. He’s hoping for a low to no touch option & driving an “A” truck. We’d appreciate prayer!
Our granddaughter is precious & mostly asleep whenever we’ve spent time with her as her days & nights are mixed up. Our son went back to work last week & he & his wife seem to be adjusting quite well to parenting. Our middle son just came down with “covid” after being exposed by his roommates, 2 of whom were sick for a couple days but needed about a week before getting a negative test. Son can’t probably go to work this entire week now due to policies…I shared our Q-Tree protocols with him so hopefully those OTC meds & supplements can assist him in getting well quickly.
Our dog killed a baby skunk while we were Up North & still smells of it a bit. Our daughter has remarked a couple times how she thinks Jules is thicker around the middle recently. We’re wondering if she might have gotten knocked up while being out in the unfenced yard Up North. Anyone know how long dog pregnancy gestation is? I don’t remember for our first dog as a couple had puppies back in 1994…

Gas prices in the Durham NC area are all over the map. There can be a difference of 10 cents to 20 cents per gallon within a mile’s radius.
IMO, if one uses the “new” Dollar Store pricing system, that may indicate a real inflation rate of about 25%, since the company will pass its increased costs onto the customer.
Sorry also to hear that middle son caught the “coof.” Is he in contact with you all? Out of caution, especially with the upcoming wedding, COVID preventative protocols for the family? (just a suggestion)

Thank you for All of this RDS! Hubby did not see a doctor, but we treated him at home & about midway through the second day he was back to normal. Although this job provided insurance on Day One we hadn’t yet completed the paperwork (we had four weeks for this task & it was on the agenda for last week pending a day when he wasn’t too fatigued after work as we wanted to be in person together to do this & I’d been out of town when he started). We’ve had no health insurance since he left his old job, though our disabled son still has Medicaid via SSI so his medical needs have been (mostly) unaffected by the job change.
That’s a good insight on the inflation rate, though I’m no economist. Thanks.
Our middle son was around some family over the weekend, though only outside, so we’re not too concerned. Just in case we boosted the immune-enhancing OTC meds & supplements around here to help us all stay healthier.
While at the bridal shower I spoke w/ the hostess, my oldest son’s mother-in-law, & she recalls seeing Josiah at his brother’s house when she was there during the renovation phase before her daughter lived there. She said J was pacing around & saying how he was praying that someday he would have what his brother had, a wife-to-be & a place to live with her. This woman, who has a special needs sibling, was thinking in her heart how sad it was that J would likely never have those things…& yet here we are six years later & look what God has done to bring him Rose & the plan to live with her family after they are married in a house that will become Rose’s after her parents are gone.
God is so good. His plans are so much bigger than we can imagine. We are so thankful & blessed that our son has found love & another family that warmly embraces him & accepts, & even appreciates, him as he is!!! ❤

We were hoping to get some puppies out of her eventually & this is as good of a time as any so that’s not really an issue. She is the Best Dog we have ever had & each of our four kids Really Wants to have one of her puppies, though it’s hard to imagine any dogs “better” than she is 🙂

At around 6 p.m. local time, an “adult male” entered the mall with a rifle and several magazines. He proceeded to the food court where he started shooting. 3 people were killed and two injured by the psychotic gunman before a good samaritan with a gun took action and killed the attacker.
Greenwood Police Chief James Ison confirmed that “a good Samaritan with a handgun” had stopped the attack before police had even arrived.
Ison added that an armed civilian “was able to stop that shooter almost as soon as he began.”

IMO, Pence is starting to set up his 2024 Presidential campaign. Likely has the backing of The Turtle, Kevin McCarthy, Ronna McDaniel, et al. Campaign focus could be along the lines of, “America wants a steady, balanced hand on the helm.” Watch for (at first, subtle, then not-so-subtle) inferences that POTUS45 is a “loose cannon”, “isn’t a statesman”, “causes too much division.”

Election integrity or years of conflict. That’s how I see it. I’m prepared for the later because I don’t think there has ever been election integrity in my lifetime. My personal opinion is that it has all been pretty scripted going back to Jekyll Island. They needed to get out of debt nationally so the elites could take advantage of industrialization and technology to get mega wealthy and execute their plan to take over the world. They kicked it into gear with the Fed and personal income tax.
PDT may have been the aberration that caught them by surprise. Maybe. Cankles may have been too recklessly corrupt to keep in line. If PDT went in through patriot efforts, I am glad because I really want to know the truth of our situation in this world and that has been coming at us fast and furious.

So I could take two weeks of COVID, to see the hand of God in such a mighty way bringing down what has, among other things, been a judgment on His church. That’s an interesting perspective, and undoubtedly true. I was very disappointed in the church’s response to COVID and the death jabs. He was one of the few that stood up.

Wolf, I now believe that the US Presbyterian Church got rid of our once great pastor in NYC over a planned allegation of an affair, and replaced him with a left-wing group. Our minister was so popular, he had two to three thousand people come to services each week.
I saw this happening for a few years. Nothing to do about it from my vantage point, as I had moved out of the area but still supported the church.
When I saw the George Floyd post in my quarterly report, that was enough to decrease my monetary support to a few dollars, keeping my membership in the church but so wary of doing anything else. I will keep looking for a new church.
Cannot tell you how disappointed I am.

Even here, where most mornings we are greeted by the call of the white-throated sparrow, and not by pressing ecclesiastical news, I have received word regarding a recent decision passed by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
On July 8, the General Assembly voted 266-116 to approve INT-02, a resolution declaring that, “Israel’s laws, policies, and practices constitute apartheid against the Palestinian people.” The full resolution can be found here. This decision has been covered by major media outlets including the Washington Post and Business Insider.
For those of you unfamiliar with Presbyterian polity, the General Assembly meets once every two years. Its membership changes every two years as well. Most of the 400 or so American Presbyterians who participated in this year’s General Assembly will attend only once in their lifetimes. The Stated Clerk of the denomination, J. Herbert Nelson, has released a statement defending the General Assembly’s decision.
Meanwhile, groups like Presbyterians for Middle East Peace and the Reform Jewish Movement (with which our friends at Temple Emanu-El and Central Synagogue are affiliated) have offered strong dissent. The Session of First Presbyterian Church in Atlanta has also issued a clear dissent, and I expect other Presbyterian congregations across the country will follow suit.
I concur with those who dissent.
My friends, I do not intend, in this email, to set down my own, imperfect perspective on this complicated geopolitical matter. If you would like to entertain that conversation, let’s do it in person. Buy me a cup of coffee in September, and I promise we can dig into this multi-layered issue face to face.
Today, I simply want to share two facts related to this resolution, and highlight the questions and consequences I believe these facts raise for American Presbyterians. Then I will outline our next steps.
Fact #1Good, thoughtful, faithful people disagree (often quite passionately) on this topic. Some of my best friends and colleagues do not share my perspectives on Israel and the occupied territories. And yes, there are many more than two perspectives on this topic. Add to all this the fact that history is being written every day in the Middle East, further complicating an already complicated conversation. So it is really no surprise that there is broad disagreement within our denomination about what to say and do.
QuestionsIs it smart for a deeply divided body to issue such a controversial political statement? Such statements convey that this part of the church is right, and this part is wrong—this part of the Body of Christ is compassionate, and this part is addicted to the wrong sort of power. It is politically tempting to draw such distinctions, to angle for a “win” for your side on the floor of General Assembly—but is it faithful, intellectually honest and helpful in addressing the issues at hand? Don’t we have better tools for addressing matters on which informed people of faith, in good conscience, disagree? Have we given up on prayerful study and thoughtful interfaith dialogue? In the name of doing something prophetic, has the General Assembly abandoned humble, balanced, ethically-nuanced conversation?
Fact #2Respected Jewish organizations and dear friends of Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church are calling the General Assembly’s use of the incendiary label “apartheid” an instance of antisemitic rhetoric. I personally know a number of the Jewish and Christian leaders who have made this accusation. These individuals are smart, level-headed, faithful and trustworthy. None of them views the situation in Israel and the occupied territories as morally adequate. All are committed to working for a better, more just, and safer world for all of God’s children. I take the charge of antisemitism leveled by these dedicated and thoughtful folk with utmost seriousness.
QuestionsWhy did this year’s General Assembly not make room on its docket to hear from voices in the Reform Jewish movement before voting on this measure? Why is it that the churches and pastors most opposed to this resolution are from urban areas with sizable Jewish populations? Is it because we feel pressure from our Jewish neighbors? Or is it because, through repeated interactions with our Jewish neighbors, we have learned to listen to each other better, with ears and hearts shaped by faithful aspirations for what Israel and the occupied territories might be? Finally, do we really think that the “apartheid” label helps matters? When in the history of American politics and religious disputes has inflammatory rhetoric changed people’s hearts and minds?
My friends, General Assembly Resolution INT-02 will not move the needle. It will not make things better. Not for the Palestinians. Not for the Israelis. Not for the prospects of Middle East peace. Not for American Jews in dialogue with American Christians about all sorts of important matters.
What should Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church do?I propose three concrete actions.
First: Fifth Avenue’s leadership will immediately go to work developing an adult education forum to be held this fall that will address this decision. We will talk about how Presbyterian government works, whose voices were represented in discussions leading up to this decision, and most importantly, we will strategize about what Presbyterians can do to work for justice, peace and security for all who live within Israel and the occupied territories.
Second: I intend to form a working group that will be charged with drafting an official response to the General Assembly resolution—a response to be discussed and (I hope) adopted by the joint boards of our church. If you are interested in participating in this working group, please let me know.
Third: I am going to begin (even now, from the woods of northern Minnesota) to reach out to our friends in New York’s Jewish communities. I will listen to their reactions to this resolution. I will do my best to explain the ways of Presbyterian governance. I will assure them that this resolution does not represent what the majority of American Presbyterians believe. And then, my friends, I intend to double down on dialogue between our community and Jewish religious communities in New York City.
What can you do? I recommend that you study the documents linked above, commit to being involved in dialogue this fall, and pray. Pray for our Jewish neighbors who are confused and hurt by this action. Pray for all who are caught in the tendrils of this long-standing and ever-evolving conflict. Pray for those with no power. Pray for those with great power. Pray that all concerned might conform their actions to the will of God. And finally, please pray for this congregation, its elected leaders and its pastors. Pray that we will follow the way of Jesus Christ in responding to this conflict with intelligence, humility and tangible compassion.

We believers are the church universal. Jesus gave the command to His disciples to go and make more disciples throughout the earth. Bring the love of Christ and His redeeming sacrifice to the world to all peoples of the earth.
“Go” means many more things as time has gone on. Nearly all theologians, evangelists and pastors use electronic means to spread the message to the world. The Word spreads, the believers in the local areas take it from there to minister to those who hear or see the message and believe or want to know more.
Which means many on here are waging war with sin and evil in an effort to do our parts to bring God’s kingdom to the lost and to strengthen and intercede for the believers. Many are shining lights on darkness and evil on The Q Tree.
What is being done here has an eternal impact IMO.
Amen & Amen TB!!! Well & wonderfully said. A church I used to attend had a newsletter called “Voice of the Armory”, which is good description of much of what happens here on the Q-Tree. In so many ways we are on the frontlines for Truth, Life, Freedom, & the Kingdom of God! Shining Light into darkness & overcoming it in the Name of the Lord!!!
