On December 15, 1791, the United States ratified the Bill of Rights.
Virginia became the 10th of 14 states to vote to ratify the first ten amendments to the Constitution. 14 states? Yes, Vermont had already come in as the 14th state on March 4 of the same year.
When the new US Constitution was being debated, many people refused to ratify it because they thought it did not give enough protection to individual rights. Proponents of the Constitution agreed to add a bill of rights in the first Congress if the opponents would agree to support it. This argument persuaded enough opponents to see the new Constitution ratified.
In the first Congress, James Madison proposed twenty amendments to the Constitution, the most popular from a long list of amendments proposed by the states. According to the Constitution’s directions for the amendment process, Congress debated them and recommended twelve of them to the states. Each state then had its own internal debate and ten of them were eventually ratified, becoming the Bill of Rights.
The Bill of Rights contains a list of restrictions on the federal government and guarantees various rights to the people and the states. The Bill of Rights guarantees freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, the right to keep and bear arms and freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures of private property.
The Bill of Rights also guarantees that the government cannot house soldiers on private property except in case of war, the right to have a grand jury review infamous criminal charges, the right to trial by jury, the right not to incriminate oneself in court and the right to be tried in the district where criminal charges are alleged.
The Bill of Rights also guarantees that a criminal defendant must be informed of the charges against him, be able to obtain witnesses in his favor and be able to confront the witnesses against him. It also guarantees the right to have an attorney represent you in court, bans excessive bail, fines and cruel and unusual punishments. Finally, the Bill of Rights states the federal government only has the powers specifically given to it in the Constitution and reserves every other power and right to the states and individuals in them.
There was actually quite a bit of argument — and give-and-take — over the Bill of Rights.
Many were saying, “look, Article I, Section 8 says what the government CAN do, why have a separate section to say what the government CAN’T do?”
Others were saying, “we know human nature — the government will soon stray into all sorts of things not specifically forbidden.”
The First through Eighth Amendments were designed to pacify the latter group; the Ninth and Tenth Amendments were designed to reassure the former group.
Unfortunately, both groups spent so much time on whether or not there should be a Bill of Rights that they omitted the inclusion of “or else” clauses to give the Amendments any teeth. As an example, let’s take the Second Amendment — “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Let’s put some oomph in — “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, any attempt to infringe the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall be a violation of required oaths of office, punishable by expulsion.”
You never know when such things might be handy. After all, the Founders who put forth the Constitution were originally supposed to be considering how to patch up the Articles of Confederation.
Supposedly THAT is what the second Amendment was for.
HOWEVER in 1913 everything changed.
The Federal government got the right to tax the People Directly and ‘Borrow’ worthless fiat funny money from a EUROPEAN CENTRAL BANK misnamed The Fed.
THIS GAVE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT MONETARY LEVERAGE OVER THE STATES. Now about 1/2 of a state’s revenue, instead of coming from it’s citizens directly, is routed thru the Federal government…. WITH STRINGS ATTACHED!
The imposition of a 55 mph speed limit is an excellent example of HOW the federal government leveraged the power of the purse AGAINST THE STATES.
Instead of the Senate Representing the states, as was originally intended, the Senate became a group elected by the people directly instead of being appointed by the state government.
And then the Supreme Court SEAL OUR FATE AS AN OLIGARCHY instead of a Representative Republic.
On January 21, 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court unleashed a flood of corporate money into our political system by announcing, contrary to longstanding precedents, that corporations have a constitutional right to spend unlimited amounts of money to promote or defeat candidates. The decision in this historic case – Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission – overturns a century of campaign finance law.
The court overruled two existing Supreme Court decisions. In Austin v. Michigan Chamber of Commerce, the court held that the government can limit for-profit corporations to the use of PACs to fund express electoral advocacy. McConnell v. FEC applied that principle to uphold the constitutionality of the McCain-Feingold law’s restrictions on “electioneering communications” — that is, corporate funding of election-eve broadcasts that mention candidates and convey unmistakable electoral messages. Striking down these decisions unleashes unlimited corporate and union spending in not just federal candidate campaigns, but allows for millions to be spent to influence state and local elections where the money is even more effective.
As far as I am concerned campaign donations should be limited to what an ordinary citizen can afford. A total of ~$1,000 PER ELECTION CYCLE. you can choose a PAC or an individual or any combination BUT NO MORE THAN $1,000 TOTAL.
As long as an individual or WORSE a corporation or an NGO or Union can donate MILLIONS OR BILLIONS, then we as a country are an OLIGARCHY run BY the Cabal FOR the Cabal.

I posted a reply about this lat Wednesday (ET) but it’s important enough I think to be worth a repeat.
The National Ignition Facility has claimed success with hydrogen fusion.
But it’s NOT over yet.
The facility works by powering up a bunch of mondo lasers, and using them to zap a tiny spherical pellet full of deuterium (heavy hydrogen, the requisite proton plus one neutron) and tritium (even heavier hydrogen, radioactive, proton and two neutrons). The outer casing of the pellet implodes, moving at something like 1/10% of one percent of the speed of light; compressing the fuel and heating it up.
The idea is that for a split instant, conditions favorable for fusion exist, and the fuel fuses.

NIF hosts the world’s most energetic laser. The laser heats the outer layer of a small sphere. The energy is so intense that it causes the plastic to implode, squeezing the fuel inside. The plastic reaches a peak speed of 350 km/s (220 mi/s),[4] raising the fuel density from about that of water to about 100 times that of lead. The delivery of energy and the adiabatic process during implosion raises the temperature of the fuel to hundreds of millions of degrees. At these temperatures, fusion processes occur in the tiny interval before the fuel explodes outward.
So there are two main steps: Power up the lasers. Use them to fuse the pellet. Each of those steps requires some energy input.
The first step’s input is a bunch of electrical power, its output is the energy of the beam.
The second step’s input is the light from the laser, its output is whatever is produced by the fusion.
The BIG BREAKTHROUGH is that the second step now, for the first time ever, releases MORE energy than it received from the laser. That is a FIRST for the human race (outside of a thermonuclear bomb).
The problem is the first step still consumes far more power than it delivers to the pellet, so the overall process is still an energy loss.
The NIF became the first fusion reactor to achieve scientific breakeven on December 5, 2022, with an experiment producing 3.15 megajoules of energy from a 2.05 megajoule input of laser light for an energy gain of about 1.5.[131][132][133][134] Charging the laser consumed “well above 400 megajoules”.[135] In a public announcement on December 13, the Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm announced the facility had achieved ignition.[136]
So the fusion produced 1.5 times as much energy as it took to trigger it, but the lasers use 200 times as much energy as they deliver to the fusion.
(A megajoule, by the way, a million joules or 100 watts for 10,000 seconds (a bit under three hours). Or pick any power level in watts and time in seconds that multiply out to a million. The joule is the basic SI unit of energy (one watt for one second; equivalent to lifting an apple about a yard). A kilowatthour is 3.6 megajoules, since it’s 1,000 watts for 3,600 seconds.)

Actually, what is said to have happened is he saw an apple fall from a tree, and realized the same force as pulled on the apple, pulls on the moon. He then had to invent the math to prove it.
The whole bit of the apple hitting him on the head is almost certainly a bit of retrofitted slapstick, but it’s just too good for most people to resist.

Thorium reactors could easily take us into the 2100s by themselves. If you build ’em in defunct coal plants and refine the fuel out of coal ash waste pits, you have prebuilt infrastructure out to the distribution net and prebuilt boiler buildings.
Only problem is they BLEW UP ONE of THOSE COAL PLANTS (so no going back) and converted the others to gas (Easier to gouge consumers since you can not cheaply stock pile gas) Also they are excavating the waste pits.

Duke Energy had proposed covering some storage pits with a waterproof cap, saying that would prevent rain from carrying chemicals through the unlined bottoms and would provide a quicker and cheaper option.
Duke Energy said the expanded excavation requirement could double its costs to about $10 billion. It had previously estimated the task would take up to 30 years to complete at all 14 current and former coal-burning plants in the state….
I have been a thorium fan for awhile. Maybe you will explain to me what the main prohibition is? My information (which is several years old) is that cost is the major stumbling block to building a thorium reactor. Enlighten me please.
People used to think that thorium needed its own unique reactor styles, some of which offer great safety at a fundamental level, but which are novel and need testing and development. That stuff always delays things. Also, if you talk to industry folks, they are very biased toward existing uranium-focused tech, by their own admission, saying honestly that the advantages of existing knowledge match many advantages of thorium right now.
BUT the Indians and Russians have discovered that they can burn thorium as a second fuel in uranium and plutonium reactors, with very little modification, which opens huge doors, b/c thorium is so plentiful and has no isotope issues (it’s all one – the right one).
If we don’t get smart, BRICS is going to ride the thorium rocket while we bicycle to our WEF-approved 1-bulb apartments.
All the original development money went into “dual-use” reactor designs (those that can be used to generate power and also make nuclear weapons). With thorium, no such second track exists.
This means that far more non-thorium reactors have been built than thorium reactors. And with each generation built, the designs get safer and more efficient.
One of the newer anti-thorium arguments is that nuclear engineering has advanced to the point that U-233 isolation and weaponization is possible, despite all the formerly prohibitive risks. My argument is that nuclear peacemaking has also advanced, to the point that both factors combined make U-233 weapons a still largely irrelevant option. If you can do 233, you can undoubtedly do both 235 and 239, and they’re both better documented. Then ask why bother.
On the scale of the universe it’s three times as common as everything else put together.
It’s only a leeetle bit difficult to find here on Earth because here, it’s always part of a molecule, most notably water.
But really, that’s all wrong…the hydrogen to be used in fusion is going to be deuterium, which is a bit scarce and annoying to separate out from protium (regular hydrogen). (Not as hard as U-235 from U-238 but still, annoying.) And the other component, tritium, has to be made.

If you don’t specify a donation for a specific purpose when sending it in, the organization puts it into a pot called “unrestricted funds,” and it is used for whatever purpose the organization sees fit to use it.

THAT is a profound explanation. People QUIT taking the vaccine because they had a bad experience.
So mortality for the one-shot crowd is more than doubled, because people KNEW they were being damaged and stopped. People who didn’t notice damage moved on to the second shot.
NOW – this fits in with something that we observed when the shots started rolling out, and there were people who died afterwards, and the term “clot shot” started developing.
Here is the pattern.

This pattern MATCHES what we would expect for somebody who had a bad experience with the first shot, but their BELIEF carried them through to the second shot.
(As an aside, I will bet that Pfizer trials somehow eliminated people like this.)
And THIS all matches those studies now, where they are finding silent damage in a higher-than-expected proportion of the vaccinated, after the first COVID shot in young people.

She improves slightly, not much. 9-10 months later she passes out going to the bathroom from bed and hurts her back and side. Has been in steady decline ever since. Had cement injected into affected vertebra, no relief. Severe back, leg, shoulder pain continues. Therapy and physicians provide no relief.
She would be dead now if she was not so strong willed. Most people would have long since disappeared from view and be worm food.

My mom was allergic to iodine so there was a test where they wanted to inject that into her spine and she could not have the test. Her doc said it would have killed her.
Sorry Gail, I see iodine mentioned and remember one doc had an order for mom to get the test with iodine. She was on the examining table and asked the doc what was in the shot he was about to inject in her spine. He told her. She said “I’m allergic to iodine” and that doc ran out of the room saying he would not do the test. Mom’s primary doc said it would have killed her. I have a bit of a knee-jerk reaction about iodine now… My dad was so upset.
If you absolutely have to get a shot for something else, demand…at the last moment, without any warning…that they show you the vial. Since they’re not expecting you to make the demand, they might be lazy and just be relying on you not seeing the label.
What I think happened is, the first release of shots had more “hot doses.” They realized they were injuring too many too fast, and they toned it down for the next go-round. That’s my theory, anyway.

IMO, the 145% regards any person who took only one dose of any COVID-19 “vaccine.” In the case of the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 “vaccine”, that would mean the one-shot dose.
However, IMO, the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 “vaccine” is very dangerous due to the high risk of thrombocytopenia that can occur (and has been proven to occur) after getting this “vaccine.” Page 1 of the FDA-issued Fact Sheet for Healthcare Providers about this “vaccine” has a large Black Lettering Warning about the risk of thrombocytopenia.
The FDA is still recommending that certain people take this “vaccine.”

Fourth, that Anthony Fauci and Ralph Baric have been heavily involved in gain-of-function research on creating SARS-CoV-2 coronaviruses since at least 2005 — by actively working with and/or funding scientists from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and at the Baric Lab at UNC, Chapel Hill, in the creation of what is called the COVID-19 virus.
Fifth, the actual studies data results for the Moderna COVID-19 “vaccine” mRNA-1273 are just now being put out to the American public. The first actual data results indicate that the lab animals who received mRNA-1273 had offspring that had high rates of skeletal deformities.
There is 100 mcg of spike protein in each “adult dose” (for persons age 12 and older) of mRNA-1273, as compared to 30 mcg of spike protein in each “adult dose” of the Pfizer-BioNTech “vaccine”, BNT162b2.

I get to use Brave tonight, because the latest Firefox “upgrade” essentially kludged EVERYTHING.
Actually, I’m now thinking it may not have been so clear-cut. Started getting strange things like no green circle/comment count on these pages; arstechnica ceased to function; Foxnews looked like a deformatted almost text version….I thought it was Firefox because it was across a number of sites, and it went away when I went to Brave. Now things slowly seem to be getting back to normal…..
I’m using Firefox from Mint repos. Ubuntu has gone to distributing Firefox as a flatpack image. In the meantime, Firefox has gone to generating its own upgrades that override apt’s scheduling — when there is a new version in the repo, it is gonna upgrade (likely at an inconvenient time) and it will lose any of your CTL-F info.
And I get it — nobody’s going to seek out your home system and take over your computer. 55% is social engineering — “Hi! I’m your friend! Click this!” and 35% is browser exploits — “here’s an innocent advert on a website that runs malicious javascript”. Browsers are the exposed underbelly of the internet. It just seems that countermeasures are merely flailing about and not fixing things.
Makes me more and more glad that most of the time when I close a browser window…it’s GONE. And so is everything it infected.
There are two exceptions, virtual machines for sites that remember from one run to the next, but even those I’ve gotten to the point that I can blow them away and rebuild them (and the only thing I need to do is re-enable cookies from those two sites–I haven’t figured out how to configure that in a file, yet, though I just thought of a place to go look).

Yesterday, I had lunch with my youngest son (just turned 27), the more conservative one. I was commenting about how strange it was that the left, which used to be anti-government, anti-war, and against “the man” had shifted so suddenly in the opposite direction.
He said to me “Mom, it’s simple. They’ve turned into Marxists.”
He went on to explain to me what that meant (as if I don’t know, lol!).
He really gets it. And he tells me that he’s not the only one. He says things among the young are changing fast. Political correctness is out the window. They are fed up. He and his friends listen to Jordan Peterson and Andrew Tate.
I was so happy. The left pushed too hard, and the pendulum is about to swing hard back in the other direction. I may actually get my long-time dream of living like the Amish before I die, if the young ones continue the way they are going!

The National Ignition Facility has claimed success with hydrogen fusion.
But it’s NOT over yet.
The facility works by powering up a bunch of mondo lasers, and using them to zap a tiny spherical pellet full of deuterium (heavy hydrogen, the requisite proton plus one neutron) and tritium (even heavier hydrogen, radioactive, proton and two neutrons). The outer casing of the pellet implodes, moving at something like 1/10% of one percent of the speed of light; compressing the fuel and heating it up.
The idea is that for a split instant, conditions favorable for fusion exist, and the fuel fuses.

So there are two main steps: Power up the lasers. Use them to fuse the pellet. Each of those steps requires some energy input.
The first step’s input is a bunch of electrical power, its output is the energy of the beam.
The second step’s input is the light from the laser, its output is whatever is produced by the fusion.

Thorium reactors could easily take us into the 2100s by themselves. If you build ’em in defunct coal plants and refine the fuel out of coal ash waste pits, you have prebuilt infrastructure out to the distribution net and prebuilt boiler buildings.
Only problem is they BLEW UP ONE of THOSE COAL PLANTS (so no going back) and converted the others to gas (Easier to gouge consumers since you can not cheaply stock pile gas) Also they are excavating the waste pits.

I have been a thorium fan for awhile. Maybe you will explain to me what the main prohibition is? My information (which is several years old) is that cost is the major stumbling block to building a thorium reactor. Enlighten me please.
People used to think that thorium needed its own unique reactor styles, some of which offer great safety at a fundamental level, but which are novel and need testing and development. That stuff always delays things. Also, if you talk to industry folks, they are very biased toward existing uranium-focused tech, by their own admission, saying honestly that the advantages of existing knowledge match many advantages of thorium right now.
BUT the Indians and Russians have discovered that they can burn thorium as a second fuel in uranium and plutonium reactors, with very little modification, which opens huge doors, b/c thorium is so plentiful and has no isotope issues (it’s all one – the right one).
If we don’t get smart, BRICS is going to ride the thorium rocket while we bicycle to our WEF-approved 1-bulb apartments.

All the original development money went into “dual-use” reactor designs (those that can be used to generate power and also make nuclear weapons). With thorium, no such second track exists.
This means that far more non-thorium reactors have been built than thorium reactors. And with each generation built, the designs get safer and more efficient.
One of the newer anti-thorium arguments is that nuclear engineering has advanced to the point that U-233 isolation and weaponization is possible, despite all the formerly prohibitive risks. My argument is that nuclear peacemaking has also advanced, to the point that both factors combined make U-233 weapons a still largely irrelevant option. If you can do 233, you can undoubtedly do both 235 and 239, and they’re both better documented. Then ask why bother.

But really, that’s all wrong…the hydrogen to be used in fusion is going to be deuterium, which is a bit scarce and annoying to separate out from protium (regular hydrogen). (Not as hard as U-235 from U-238 but still, annoying.) And the other component, tritium, has to be made.
Thought deuterium was present on the moon in large quantities?

THAT is a profound explanation. People QUIT taking the vaccine because they had a bad experience.
So mortality for the one-shot crowd is more than doubled, because people KNEW they were being damaged and stopped. People who didn’t notice damage moved on to the second shot.
NOW – this fits in with something that we observed when the shots started rolling out, and there were people who died afterwards, and the term “clot shot” started developing.

This pattern MATCHES what we would expect for somebody who had a bad experience with the first shot, but their BELIEF carried them through to the second shot.

She would be dead now if she was not so strong willed. Most people would have long since disappeared from view and be worm food.

What I think happened is, the first release of shots had more “hot doses.” They realized they were injuring too many too fast, and they toned it down for the next go-round. That’s my theory, anyway.

Yesterday, I had lunch with my youngest son (just turned 27), the more conservative one. I was commenting about how strange it was that the left, which used to be anti-government, anti-war, and against “the man” had shifted so suddenly in the opposite direction.

He went on to explain to me what that meant (as if I don’t know, lol!).
He really gets it. And he tells me that he’s not the only one. He says things among the young are changing fast. Political correctness is out the window. They are fed up. He and his friends listen to Jordan Peterson and Andrew Tate.
I was so happy. The left pushed too hard, and the pendulum is about to swing hard back in the other direction. I may actually get my long-time dream of living like the Amish before I die, if the young ones continue the way they are going!
My son too, though he still hangs out in Seattle. If I could just get him to marry a girl and provide me with a grandchild …

Since late August, the DOJ has rounded up dozens of more individuals for their actions relating to January 6. Most of these arrestees consist of unarmed, nonviolent individuals committing misdemeanor trespassing charges. Individuals who did not break windows, breach a building, or destroy office furniture. Like many of the 2021 and early 2022 arrestees, these individuals entered the Capitol with a cell phone or camera- filming the events of that day as they followed one another like tourists.
30 of the 72 new individuals have the exact same 4 charges: Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds (1), Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds (2), Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building or Grounds (3), and Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building (4). All 4 of these charges are classified as non-violent misdemeanor charges.
