Users have already found a way to work around ChatGPT’s programming controls that restricts it from creating certain content deemed too violent, illegal, and more.
The prompt, called DAN (Do Anything Now), uses ChatGPT’s token system against it, according to a report by CNBC. The command creates a scenario for ChatGPT it can’t resolve, allowing DAN to bypass content restrictions in ChatGPT.
Although DAN isn’t successful all of the time, a subreddit devoted to the DAN prompt’s ability to work around ChatGPT’s content policies has already racked up more than 200,000 subscribers.
Besides its uncanny ability to write malware, ChatGPT itself presents a new attack vector for threat actors.

The idea of an IoT is not horrible — although most implementations approach this. Let’s say you want to water your lawn while you’re away at work on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. You can buy a little cheapie timer to do this. If (like me) you’ve owned such a timer and had it break, you typically notice and can debug the break after about 1/4 of your lawn dries out and dies.
So you add a sensor to make sure that the scheduled lawn-watering does, in fact, take place. And you put a little monitor widget next to the back door to let you know things are working…..
You have a wet spell, go walking on your lawn, and sink in the mud. Now you want it to water 3x per week except when it’s raining…..
The devices are cheap, and they help you concentrate on things you consider important instead of all the detailed minutiae that keeps your home running.
Let’s say you have one female acquaintance that likes it warm when she visits….like 73 degrees. And you have another that prefers to cuddle under blankets with the house at 67. Your IoT thermostat can keep track of which one is visiting each night and heat the house appropriately. As an added benefit, should they both show up on the same night, the HVAC system can explode and provide you the perfect excuse to abruptly leave in search of repair parts.
It’s probably just me… but one of the things I could use most, is less complexity, not more!
That’s the point — we live in a complex time, and the more that can be delegated away from our perpetual attention, the better. Yet we are not such fools as to wish a foreign ruler to make such decisions on our behalf; rather, we should have a squad of faithful cybernetic minions attending to our wishes while our attentions are diverted elsewhere.

Imagine the amount of time and effort and expense involved, to create an entire planetary interconnected system…
In order to control your light switches, your microwave, your thermostat and your lawn sprinkler… oh yeah, and your alarm system and microwave.
But you still have to put the food IN the microwave, so I’m not sure why you need to get your personal tracking device out and swipe it and unlock it and launch the IoT app and click four or five prompts, when you could just use the keypad on the microwave… since you’re standing there anyway…
All because it’s just too much effort to get up off the couch and move the knob(s) or push the buttons on the device itself, so instead, we can push touch-screen buttons to do the same thing on our personal tracker.
There just has to be a better reason for the technology to exist… or we’re being had 😂
Back when we would take multi-week dive vacations, we would have to hire someone to plant-sit our gardens while we were gone. We would use as much automation as we could to minimize this. You might want to wave it away, but it’s real.
That said, apps in your phone are just stupid.

I’m not waving anything away. When I was a kid, my Dad put a timer on the sprinkler. It was old tech by today’s standards, but it worked to water the grass or the garden.
If you have to hire someone to do more than that, then they can water the grass while they’re there.
The use case for IoT technology ought to be so crystal clear and overwhelming that this conversation wouldn’t even be happening, and yet here we are.
We’re talking about justifying adding microchips and communications capability — increasing complexity and parts that can break, the cheapest garbage parts possible that are nearly guaranteed to come from chyna — into practically every kind of appliance known to man.
All over the planet.
The cost to do this, the added cost of the appliances, the added complexity and replacements and repairs for parts that malfunction or break… there has to be a payoff that makes the time and expense and effort worth the input cost.
It has to be something greater than watering a garden, to justify doing everything required to bring it about.
And there has to be a demand for it.
You don’t create a technology just because you can, and then figure out how to make people want it later.
It has to fill a need, you know, the mother of invention and all that jazz.
So what glaring need does IoT fulfill?
What critical problem does it solve?
To justify the cost and expense and added complexity and decreased durability and reliability of globally revamping everything?
The answer has to be something greater than a doodad to water the garden while we’re off diving.
I have nothing against diving, but people talk about first world problems… I don’t even know what to call that… what comes before first?
For anything so comprehensive and global in nature, and the expense and other factors mentioned above, the use case should be so obvious that it explains itself.
And yet curiously, at least so far, not even very bright people have been able to make a rational case for it.
Unless I’m completely missing something, which is certainly possible.

This is a perfect example of what I mean by (me) missing something.
It was my understanding that IoT needs to be connected to something in order for people to remotely control all of their IoT-ready devices.
AFAIK, that means a cell phone, a laptop, a desktop PC or some sort of pad device.
Also AFAIK, some sort of app is necessary as an interface between the human and the machine to be controlled.
So I don’t know how the IoT can work without using a device to do it, and I don’t know how a device can do it without an app designed to make it work.

Okay, but then what are some examples of ‘worthwhile’ that could justify the trouble and cost?
I keep trying to come up with a use case that could justify it (the expense, the complexity, the sheer size and scale of the undertaking), and I keep coming up with bupkis, besides trivial conveniences that mostly don’t even appear to actually solve any real problem(s).
I think the purpose is to spy on people and to be able to hijack or control their “things” if they are using too much energy. So that’s a NO. I’ve read accounts of people getting locked out of their homes during power outages and also of people being able to hack into their system(s) and access their homes.
Apart from that, why people want so many things connected to the internet is another matter. One commenter here, I think RF121, has spoken in favor of some of them because he finds it convenient to be able to lock doors and the like, remotely (and I could be mischaracterizing that).
There is a status symbol component, and *they* want younger generations to grow up not knowing anything else.

We bought a new fridge and God for bid an assault stove recently. One criteria was less internet gadgets on them, just the basic stripped down model.
One fridge was able to tell you when your food was past date and spoiled if you entered the date you put it in…..

Well, one COULD put the item in the microwave before going to work. And then have the microwave come on and cook it at some certain time, so it’s ready when you get back from work.
That is at least a rationale for it that doesn’t assume you’re just too lazy to press the buttons after putting the thing in, so at least it’s potentially useful. But it doesn’t stand up, at least not for me, for other reasons

This was done without the internet, but was substantially pointless even back then. Even the longest cook time was something like fourteen minutes (from frozen solid). If you can’t wait that long after getting home from work…
And besides, an irregular, unpredictable work schedule or commute…or just a simple power glitch (UPS was NOT a thing back then) could render the whole exercise moot.
Not to mention untold numbers of bacteria growing on your food all day!

I can turn wifi off and operate sprinklers in manual mode and I kept my old thermostat, which is quick and easy to reinstall, jic. They’d have to turn electric off to whole house which I wouldn’t put past them.

It is the ONLY WAY you can have a lot of wind and solar power without disrupting the ‘balance’ of the electric system.
I recently replaced my thermostat. One shelf had “smart” shit that would connect to google, the other had digital programmable (but OFFLINE) thermostats and one actual old-school round one. I bought the programmable because no point in making my house toasty warm when I’m not likely to be there.

Is there no way of stopping the appliance from contacting the outside world, IDK never had one but my washing machine is just over 20 years old so can’t go on forever.
My CPAP machine had a wireless modem in it, allowing it to relay my usage patterns to the supplier and to the fed govt.
I physically removed it.
About ten days later I get a call from my supplier asking why I am not using my machine. I explained that I didn’t want my medical info sent to anyone who was not part of my medical treatment. They said but but but … you’ll have to have an extra appointment with your lung doc unless you allow the machine to send data.
I now have a different machine and the modem is still on one of my shelves.
I’m surprised it wasn’t programed in such a way that if it detected you’d disabled its ability to connect, the machine would refuse to start.
That would endanger my life, which SOME entities find is a bridge too far.
Interestingly, the machine itself is dumb. Only a record of usage is intended to be sent; I have to take the unit into the pulmonary office in order to set the specs.
Awhile back, my cheap thermostat buttons would not work any more. I got two Ecobee thermostats. Made in Canada. It could connect to my wifi devices, but I simply did not finish those steps to let it log on. It does not know the wifi password to get online. I did not need to remove any parts and I do watch what is connecting to my wifi boxes so I know. The Roku boxes do connect to the wifi devices they know the passwords for even when the Roku is “turned off.” I need to research the settings to see how to stop that.
As the world stands today: Carbon = a necessity and our friend. Electronics = desired, but potential slave master.

As an example; folks need to look at their personal responses to power outages more seriously. Think about what would they would do to just survive if the power never came back on, or, if there were undesirable conditions attached for it to come back on. Same with the internet. Most young people think saving things in a cloud is all they need as back-up. Those same young people will give all their trust to IoT. They are trusting many of the same people who support the latest version of world depopulation.
That would be a big nope from us old heads who know better. Yet, if we love said young people, we need to prepare for our needs plus theirs.

Yep, we tip with cash. The servers remember you and instruct the hostess/host to seat you at one of their tables if any are open. You end up learning more about them and their situations and families along the way to build relationships. We have even asked some if the wait staff splits tips from a pot or get to keep their own to make sure. Some places throw it all into one pot and all staff split it up. Not fair to the better performers. That way just helps the restaurant owner to keep wage costs down and potentially reduce turnover.
We learned early on since my step daughter has been in the hospitality industry her entire work life. Servers are totally dependent on the tips to make a decent living.

One giant sign for me was that I didn’t eat many eggs when younger because they made me feel uncomfortably full. It finally dawned on me that eating until you were full, then stopping, then not eating again until you were hungry, might well be a strategy to lose a few pounds.

In a recent email conversation with a friend, I suggested we begin to assign a Control Coefficient value to these absurd suggestions and warnings diktats which serve no purpose apart from obscuring reality or truth. On a scale of 1-10, this BS about eggs rates a CE = 10, on account of recent revelations that egg yolks indeed assist protection against Covid type infection.
We are all aware that such pronouncements are of the same vein as absurdities wrt the origins of post-jab cardiac issues. Vain efforts to control our responses to such BS are becoming increasingly less impactful, a quiet blessing as the untrustworthy nature of would-be dictators is revealed almost daily. Awakening seems slow but also sure.
When I was a kid and sick I got eggs that was the practice at the time. Meds were not readily available neither doctors.
When I had mononucleosis I made sure I had eggs and bacon for breakfast and steak for dinner.

I had mono when I was in high school and couldn’t help but sleep all the time. I got weak and in the hospital. The nurse brought in a tray and set me up in the bed with a bowl of oatmeal that I couldn’t keep down. I squirmed my way flat in bed and went back to sleep. I did get over it and have been fine. The doc at the time told me not to give blood, so I never have. He did not set a time limit on it but I never forgot what he told me. I don’t know if that means my blood is still different or not good for others now perhaps 50 years later.

It appears that raw chicken egg yolks were used for the experiments. ti is unclear if any experiments were performed with cooked egg yolks.
It also appears that the chickens had been injected with inactivated SARS-CoV-2 S1 spike protein before laying.
If one understands it correctly, it is the ACE2 receptors of the cells in the body that the COVID-19 spike protein binds to. One would think that also means the “enhanced” spike protein present in the COVID-19 “vaccines.”

Your Truly is not a Registered Dietician, but it would think that eating 10 chicken yolks a day may not be a good idea. And many people can’t ingest raw eggs or raw egg yolks.
IMO, there may be a “middle ground” of eating one or two eggs a day. If one can tolerate raw eggs, perhaps in a raw-egg drink like an eggnog. If one can’t tolerate raw eggs, perhaps soft-boiling them or poaching them but keeping the yolk a little “runny.”

Bear with me on this post. I want to help with personal experiences.
I confess to having reduced egg intake drastically a couple decades back, having bought into the high cholesterol argument. I learned over the next decade that was BS in practical experience. However, while wandering in the wilderness I gained 40 lbs. of unwanted blubber and lost a lot of energy. Meanwhile my cholesterol crept higher among other things.
I finally woke up. I recalled my healthier years as a younger man. I could consume a half dozen eggs at a sitting as a kid. Most of the time it was just a couple though. I was almost never sick and that could not have been just because I was younger because I did and consumed other unhealthy things and lived in a very unhealthy environment.
So, I added occasional eggs back into my nutrition and added fitness walking of 2-5 miles a day around 4 days per week. Yup – lost 50 lbs., reduced cholesterol, and so on. This increased my naturally gained Vitamin D as well. Then COVID comes along and I have aged to the higher risk category. Catch a reasonably mild case of the Wuhan followed by the Omicron last year. Trusted IVM to assist with the later and was over it in 4 days. I then decided it was time to increase the egg consumption to a dozen plus per week as I had begun taking Nattokinase at Aubergine’s recommendation earlier in the year to see how it would impact my blood labs.
My cholesterol ratio improved along with my glucose. All others were in range. Could not ask for better at my age. So I have added a bit of blubber over the winter from too many carbs and have started my annual reduction doing Keto type nutrition with a bone broth detox. I learned last year that works well for me. I still take IVM as a prophylaxis.
No respiratory illnesses at all. None. Best cold weather season I have lived through in over 20 years despite more cold temps and above average precip to go with higher mold counts and even some tree pollen. All while TN was a hot spot for flu, COVID and colds most of the season. Never stopped going – went everywhere and did everything we wanted to do.

Hubby will be turning eighty this year. Normally he has three boiled eggs for breakfast. Due to the increased cost and other things he started to eat oatmeal instead on a lot of mornings. This last month is the FIRST TIME IN OVER 30 years of marriage I have ever seen him sick with the flu.
He was also having balance problems earlier this year.
We just switched to MORE eggs and to ground beef/meat loaf with 3 eggs in the last week or so. He is feeling a lot better and no longer needs the cane for his balance problems!!!
Because he has a bit of a problem chewing he was not consuming as much beef when I served steak or chuck roast. While I would eat the rest of the roast cold, he would not eat any at all. The meat loaf or my shaving the roast for sandwiches has solved the problem.
Chewing is how the blender was invented. A physician needed to grind up meat for his wife. I don’t remember the specifics of the story, but that’s the bottom line.
He has a full mouth of teeth but just doesn’t like to chew the tough crap they now sell. If I buy meat in the ritzy neighborhood the quality of meat is MUCH MUCH better even though it is the same chain store. (Food Lion)
It is amazing the difference between the different stores. We see it because we travel over a lot of NC. There is DEFINITELY DISCRIMINATION between the rich suburbs vs rural and the poor people in urban areas get the real crap.
You also see it in the quality of the fresh veggies.
When I lived in N.W. Phoenix I would travel over to the Walmart in Scottsdale to purchase better grades of fruits, veggies and meat.
You could try cooking your steak sous vide style.
I do it in my Instant Pot. I pick the temperature for steak cooked “medium,” about 142, but you can pick whatever temp makes the meat the way you like it.
I don’t “vacuum seal” my steaks for sous vide. I use a ziplock bag, put the seasoned steaks in with some marinade. submerse the partially open bag in water until all the air leaves, then complete the seal.
When the steaks are ready to eat, I dry them and sear them in a little oil in a cast iron pan for about 20 seconds a side for a little browning. I can make steak you just can’t cook on a grill super tender with this method. Stuff like flat iron steak.
I just looked it up. It sounds like an interesting method of cooking. If I can do it without buying extra cookwear I will give it a try.

More and more people are figuring it out.
Year over year, Knox County, TN (Knoxville) saw a drop of 12% in high school grads going to any form of school on the next level – college or tech school. That’s even with it being free tuition and fees for two years at the community college and tech school levels.
Yet, the University of Tennessee enrollment is growing off the charts. The high dollar liberal private schools are getting hammered.
A lot of tech type companies and manufacturers are back to apprentice and trainee roles with high school grads around here.
Apprenticeships are a really good idea. Hubby worked at a tech company as a high school student.
I am surprised the tech schools are being boycotted… Or maybe not given the cruddy local community college I took continuing ed courses at.
The idiots a couple decades ago even put in place an attendance requirement!
I will tell you I BURNED SOME EARS OVER THAT ONE. I had to go in for ‘counseling’ and was told I had to take a remedial course on ‘how to study’
I told the WOKE Bitch I HAD a straight 100 average in the class. I had THREE YEARS of calculus and a BS in Chemistry from a big name college AND two years of that calculus was WITHOUT EVER ATTENDING A LECTURE!…. WHY did she think I couldn’t handle a piddling little accounting course by reading the book when WORK OBLIGATIONS kept me from class?

On this day in 1996, chess grandmaster Gary Kasparov lost his first game against chess-playing AI Deep Blue. Kasparov had been so confident of winning that he had turned down an offer to split the $500,000 prize purse 60-40, preferring all or nothing. Losing the first game was shaking for the grandmaster, but he ultimately went on to win the match overall. One year later in 1997, Deep Blue would handily beat Kasparov 3-2.
I was, by sheer coincidence, watching something about this last night. But it was focusing on the psychology, not the technology.
Apparently in the second match Kasparov got intimidated or he could have at least forced some draws and done a lot better.
Even if that had been so the writing would have been on the wall. Deep Blue would have won the next rematch, more than likely.

It is my contention that NO ONE of any age can rationally consent to having a healthy body part removed, with one important exception.
If a person is attempting to have a healthy body part removed from themselves for any reason other than organ donation to save another person’s life, then they have a mental health issue that needs to be addressed. Period.
I’ll counter with breast reduction. That should be optional for women who are top heavy. Trust me. It’s no picnic. I am not inclined in that direction at this point. However, it is VERY expensive to have to dress this shape.
I had a cousin with that problem. But that’s not “removing” your breasts. It’s a reduction of something that is causing health issues. My cousin was getting scoliosis from the weight on her chest when she was twenty years old!

I was originally looking for about 20 ac and we even put a bid on a house, barn and 25 ac but someone beat us to it by a couple hours. We went back home to MA only to find we had a bid on our house. I talked Hubby into selling, and then buying a travel trailer and moving down here so we could look at our leisure. He went job hunting and I went land hunting. 😊

Major donors to Project Veritas have sent the board of directors a Cease and Desist Demand Letter over founder James O’Keefe’s reported ouster.
A letter from the Troutman Pepper law firm reads: “Our firm represents a large group of significant donors to Project Veritas who have grave concerns about the Board of Directors’ reported action to remove Founder and CEO James O’Keefe from this leadership position, change the structure of Project Veritas entities and their Boards (raising risks for the entities’ charitable status), and operate Project Veritas for purposes other than those for which the organization was established.”

The group is asking that the board “immediately cease using Project Veritas funds, which were solicited using Mr. O’Keefe and his reputation for purposes of carrying out the organization’s mission, in any manner contrary to that mission.”
The letter requests that the board also preserve all evidence related to the matter.
On Wednesday, the board out O’Keefe on paid leave amid widespread reports of a hostile takeover. Many have questioned the timing of the move, as it comes on the heels of two bombshell undercover reports from PV which showed a Pfizer research scientist discussing the company exploring ways to mutate Covid via “directed evolution” in order to anticipate new strains.

The issue was that (I thought) DeSantis had made it seem that Disney had lost its tax-exempt status, but then some thought that status was still in place and that appointing a new board to oversee Disney was just window-dressing. In the article you reference, there is one comment that “Disney is gonna pay its fair share of taxes.” We need to know if their “fair share” will be the same as it was before, or if there has really been a change. It’s hard to glean the truth because all the articles I’ve seen seem to be slanted one way or the other.
