Gold went up 2 percent today, after threatening to drop below $1800. (Silver and platinum went up too, roughly as much percentage wise) I noticed as I was editing (and changing the prices from five weeks ago) that gold had not moved much from five weeks ago, and overall just a bit up from last week but everything else (even silver) is down. So basically, all metals were going down, but then today gold (and only gold) made up five weeks of losses. Silver had been hit more than gold in the last five weeks, apparently, since it’s still a buck and a half below the 5 week old price.
When comparing to last week, gold is the only thing that is up…and when gold goes up and nothing else follows, it’s being sought as a safe haven.
The two purely industrial metals (palladium and rhodium) were down today, especially rhodium which fell six percent.
I think this all means people are very nervous about the economy…maybe those rumors of bank failures are telling; certainly manufacturing seems to be in trouble too.

It did not do a good job of matching people standing in a group; however, it did show how poorly Bing’s image search is working. I will dig around some more to try and find that photo that was later explained to be a fake.

They taught Latin in my HS in the early ’80’s but I wasn’t farseeing enough to have taken it, regretfully. I did take 4 years of French between Junior High & HS so at least have/had a working knowledge of a Latin based language. That cousin of Latin exposure has helped me over the years in better understanding much of the medical terminology I’ve encountered in managing the medical needs of my family, especially my son Josiah.
My mom, who is a retired RN, Had to take Latin in either HS &/or college as part of her nursing training, I believe…
I took French and German and butchered both. However I ended up using both in my second job. My boss took a look at my resume saw I had a couple years in each and sent me off to the local univ library to do literature searches in organic chemistry in both languages. 🙄

The best class in college for me was Latin and Greek usage in the English language. I called it phonics for adults. It made a difference the more I learned chant.
It wasn’t just the Latin that was jettisoned. It was the sensual nature of the Mass, as in engaging the senses: SMELL the incense rising to Heaven; TASTE Christ in the Eucharist; SEE beauty in the architecture and artwork; HEAR beautiful music for the greater glory of God, and the bells as Transubstantiation occurs; and TOUCH others in Christ’s name. The touch remained, but the rest…not as high a quality, I understand.

Just a thought… not sure if it’s right. Inflation comes about when too much money is chasing too few goods. Fed is currently fighting inflation by raising rates. Everyone is screaming about it. Would this be a back door way of eliminating excess money in the market? The ones currently getting whacked are mostly those with lots of excess cash.
The FED was scheduled to raise rates higher on the 22nd of this month and they have been saying they should of raised rates higher than they did (only .5%) when they last met so this one is expected to at minimum be .75% or maybe a full 1%. Will be interesting to see where they go next. If they do another .5% would that may be another indicator that this bank failure has been manufactured?
Interesting to see the FED is going to meet out of schedule on Monday.
Then there is also the debt ceiling deadline Yellen gave Congress … iirc March 22nd … I believe some are trying to manipulate a ‘bailout’ …

OPINION: I believe America has been in decline since the first Bush presidency in 1989. Our political leaders have been warmongers for the most part with the exception of Trump from 2017-2020. We have started wars and political overthrow of nations almost non-stop during this time. There has also been a noticeable decline in political leaders with any semblance of ethics or moral courage. That is best evidenced by the decline of American social virtue in a world beset by technological, political, and social problems. Israel, like many another nation, used the US as an ATM machine and cooperated with American policy initiatives for that reason. Israel has its own national interests which do not always align with an American policy that has become ever more domineering and arbitrary. American leaders, along with their European fellow travelers have become irrational and virtually ignore the interests of their own citizens in favor of some idealized sense of world citizenship dreamed up by WEF and UN interest groups. Israel and the rest of the non-aligned world see this and are deciding to decouple from these “one world dreamers” in favor of political alliances that offer stability and rational policy goals. It is foolish to assume that a rational nation will forego its own interests just to follow America and the West down the road to destruction.
That does not mean that the American citizen should abandon Israel but do not be surprised to see them prioritize their national interests away from Washington DC. The changes may be subtle because Israel still needs American cash and weapons technology but if they can find a funding source that coheres more closely with their interests they will move in that direction.

My husband is a strong believer that we will come out of this. His parents both immigrants came to the US in 1920 have seen the up and down of this country and still swore that is the best country in the world. I also would never, in my wildest imagination, label the residents of an entire city “savages” – simply for the petty points. My mistake was pushing back against that.

I don’t know of any rule changes. I do not presume to speak for Wolf, but my understanding is that a problem occurs when people bring up past disputes (as opposed to theories about events) in an indirect, snarky way when the other party to the dispute is not a part of the discussion or is not likely to see the comments. It is not productive conversation and comes across as an attack behind someone’s back.
I did not see bfly label an entire city as savages. I do not say that as a defense of her; it is just that that never entered my mind when I read her comment. I understood her to be talking about “the savages that reside in Philly,” because there are “savages” in every large city that can and do act out. I don’t understand why the most negative spin was placed on the comment. I also don’t understand the level of emotion on her part, yours, and others who have come and gone. People get upset and then expect Wolf to take their side. When he doesn’t, and lets us work things out for ourselves, they leave. I find it sad, and I’m sorry that both of you will be gone.

Every project M has done in our marriage has underestimated the time, effort, &/or cost to some degree. But no matter how bad it’s gotten, the fact that he does it completely or mostly DIY means we saved money in the end!

The medical industry cares more about money than they do advising their patients that these are experimental procedures, and that we don’t have much, if any, long-term medical data on these transitions. They don’t warn the man who wants to cut his dick off about complications like the persistent “poop smell” or the body hair that continues growing inside the new orifice. These quacks sell a false solution to vulnerable people that a sex change will magically fix all of their problems when all it does is create more misery for them. And then, on top of that issue, there’s the fact that a lot of these trannies are using “gender dysphoria” as an excuse/cover/treatment for other serious mental illness that goes left untreated because there’s no money in it for the quack butchers. So, no, I do not believe even adults are capable of medically consenting in these conditions.

They could have both — advisors handling sums > $1M, and a “household account” with $1M.

Sounds like Oprah has been selected as the new media spokesman for CBDCs. Very convenient that this happened to someone who owns a billion-dollar media empire and ticks multiple boxes on the diversity checklist. Heck, it is kind of weird that out of all of the banks that could possibly collapse, it’s the one where most of the victims are in powerful positions to lobby for radical new changes (and censor any dissent).
And Musk says he wants to buy SVB. This will be interesting on many levels. Steal everyone’s money and say CBDC’s are the way to go might work if you can turn it on tomorrow, but all those folks who got stolen from are going to have their antenna up as to what the heck happened so they’ll be looking for the truth. Meanwhile too many people are apathetic to anything and just wait to see if the old credit card is still working. Guess what it will still be working, because whom ever is depositing their check, likely the govt, is still depositing their check, so no reaching them. Now if your retirement money vanished, your going to be fit to be tied and once you start to hear about the bankers cutting out early and start to hear about how it’s tied to rolling CBDC in those folks are going prefer heads gracing thier lodge as oppossed to trading in their life savings for some livable wage thing. They are going to have to crash a heck of a lot banks and somehow I don’t think a lot of banks are playing this game. There going to have to gin up a heck of lot panic for this work and the noise level is going to grow. Then with all Biden’s spending priorities are all out of whack for this. Climate change, Ukraine, Electric Cars, flooding us with illegals. Quite possible this one blows up in their face because we aint going silently.
