The anti-tax-preparation article is quite interesting. If the title were removed, and a conclusion written that followed from the information given, I’d fully agree. The problem is that the very concept of an income tax means that the government has to riffle through your knickers to identify all the economic activities in which you engage that produce taxable income. That problem is not solved by demonizing those who assist in preparing for this government onslaught.
The author talks about the evils of withholding, sold by Leviathan as “making things easier” for taxpayers. I fully agree — it has been a pernicious evil. But attacking those who try to make “government easier” into “reality easier” does not solve the problem.
If the author weren’t pushing an agenda, the natural conclusion of his piece would call for a greatly reduced Federal government with no deficit spending and the repeal of the Sixteenth Amendment.
It is the fact that, unless I want to file on paper and wait two and a half months for the IRS to even acknowledge that they received my return (happened the last two years) I have to pay those motherfuckers at Intuit 128 bucks to do taxes that are literally nothing more than “number off my W2” and “number off my bank intereest” (which the IRS, not my bank, sent to me).
I don’t actually need their help…except I’m not allowed to not use it. And, according to the article, they lobbied to make it that way. They’re not virtuous people meeting a market demand for tax prepartion, they’re using the government to point a goddamned gun at me.
Fuck them.
H&R Block Basic is less than $20 on Amazon and will do that. Mind you, I always file on paper and would recommend everyone else do so as well, but you do you.
As to the IRS and state tax agencies making their forms machine readable/writable, seems like this should be a beef with some legislatures….it reminds me of the many times governments will demand cellphone numbers or email addresses — any law that demands the same runs into the fact that people are not required to have cellphones or email accounts.
If you take your return into a post office and demand that they meter it (as opposed to selling you a stamp), the receipt will have the date mailed and the destination zip. I consider this as significant as certified for most purposes. If you’re concerned that your refund will be late, I’d recommend you adjust your withholding to minimize that refund.
You want to say fuck the US, fuck the state of Colorado, fuck their greedy-assed irresponsible legislatures and spending-drunk bureaucrats, and fuck their jackboot cretinous revenue agencies, I’m with you.
But when you single out someone who has to keep up with all that drivel and try to make it easier for you…..count me out.
A few years ago my taxes were very complicated indeed, and I hired an accountant.
I didn’t curse them. I brought cookies to their entire office.
My gripe with TurboTax is that they lobbied to make it more difficult for me to do taxes without having to use them–in spite of the fact I had no actual need of their services. At that point, I don’t give a flying fuck who is responsible for the tax code: Intuit is responsible for making it impossible to file my taxes without paying a preparer even if I don’t need one. That’s robbery.
I’d do it on paper, but quite frankly sitting on tenterhooks wondering if the government LOST my return until April 10th-12th is not appealing…which is what happened the last two years even though I filed at the end of January. THIS year there was major confusion over whether the 750 dollar bribe Polis sent to all the taxpayers of Colorado was taxable income, so I couldn’t even try to file until late February until that issue was resolved. At that point, given the prior two years, there was no way I was going to file on paper; I’d not know about the IRS getting the thing until May. (Note I am not concerned about the refund…though it does cover a major bill that comes due in late March; I was able to deal with it arriving after the bill was due.)
If you don’t need the refund, why should you care so much that they get the return? If you SENT it on time, and can prove that, it’s timely filed. The Feds own and operate the USPS, so if they can’t connect the SENT and RECEIVED thingies, that would be their problem.
It is still possible to file on handwritten paper forms — you can download pdfs from the relevant sites. It’s just a pain-in-the-ass. I consider my time worth more than that, but I’m notably eccentric in that regard.
If you don’t like Intuit, you can use H&R Block. They’re quite similar, and can import each others’ prior year information.
I’ll probably go back to paper next year. With some trepidation about how long it will take to process.
The postal paperwork will prove only that I mailed SOMETHING to the IRS that day. If they lose — or “lose” — my form, they can claim I haven’t proved I mailed a return to them, just that I sent them something.
The refund was significant…and it would be nice to get it before the end of March, but not necessary. On the other hand waiting until June for it–again wondering if the paperwork had simply been lost and I’d have to send it again at the very least once they finally got around to pinging me for it, would probably stress me.

Helpful hint — at a certain point, it doesn’t cost that much to have another bank account (you can be on a plan where having a mortgage at the bank will waive minimum balances, for instance). In such cases, you can have a “firewall” account — it’s supposed to have $300 auto-transferred out of the account on the 15th, so you auto-transfer $300 in on the 10th. If the outgoing auto-transfer gets greedy, it’ll hit NSF and stop. You’ll get hit for NSF charges, but it might be worth it.
A classic example might be a cable company — are ANY of them reputable? Or the guy whose kid ordered $1000 of DoorDash. Blowing up the “firewall” account will stop the pain from continuing.
I have personally had a cable service account where there was a certain monthly authorized charge. On the day I canceled the account, I returned all their equipment. A couple of weeks later, they tried to hit my bank account for the cost of the equipment and it bounced.
Results — I still had my cash, and I had their signed receipt for the equipment I’d returned.

A lot of this problem comes down to low I.Q. And it is getting progressively worse, because environmental and socioeconomic factors can and do lower already low I.Q.s.
It is not racist to acknowledge actual facts. And the fact is, blacks start out with an average I.Q. deficit. Add poverty, hip hop culture, and generational government enabling-by-welfare, and what you end up with is the feral, ignorant, dumbed-down culture we see taking over in inner cities.
And this is a death-spiral of racism-building. Whites and others watch those horrible videos online, and view blacks in a more negative light (people are human, after all). And because of that negative view, blacks are treated with even more hands-off distance (see Scott Adams). More isolation and less expectation lead to more of the same behavior seen in those videos, and the process starts all over again.
You are right, it is up to leaders in the black community to make it stop. But dealing with feral children must seem like an insurmountable obstacle to some. It certainly would to me.
It’s worth noting that IQ can be increased by proper schooling. Yes, one can be born with a better starting point but it is not set in stone. It can go down as well as up, depending on how it’s treated [educated].

I saw (for the first time, actually) a graph of IQs that leads me to believe you’re correct. The distribution for blacks is anomalous – there is a weird asymmetry that really jumps out at me. Whatever effect is causing it, if removed, would clearly bring the curves a lot closer together. The remaining difference is real, but I also think it’s being misinterpreted in some ways.
We have to accept the reality of the data before we can understand it and fix what is behind it. The people who like things just the way they are, don’t want that understanding to happen.

I bought the book but I don’t know if I still have it after moving around over the years. Murray took a lot of heat for being “incorrect” about received wisdom. It contained a massive amount of data which few people bothered to evaluate. They just went straight for the tar and feathers.
He had, if I recall correctly, ONE chapter about race.
It wasn’t the point of his book.
His point was that we’re in a sufficiently mobile society where smart people get together with smart people and manage to insulate themselves from the less-intelligent. Even socially.
To the point where he says, if you’re reading this book and you’re employed, you know there’s that one guy in the office everyone thinks is an idiot–and that person probably has a higher-than-average IQ. But based on what you see, he’s the dumbest person around.

I.Q can change, yes, but minimally in either direction. It is not so much a function of what you know or don’t know, but what you are capable of knowing.
I studied the measurement of I.Q., aptitude, and general knowledge for a couple of years in college, pretty intensely. I.Q. is a very misunderstood concept, in my opinion.
Yes, but there are other factors. Lack of decent parenting is a large part of it. Years ago, we knew a family where mom was from one of the Carolinas. She was one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. She said, essentially, that the culture LOVES babies, but once that baby is old enough to be a “porch child,” she literally used that term, they are ignored. They become feral.
That’s just as much of a problem as these teenagers who are hanging out on TikTok and being influenced into mutilation.

Where I live there is an underclass for generations. They could be black same results their kids low IQ. Girls get pregnant 14,, 16 no husband no one marries anyone because of benefits. I know people having kids from different fathers. Drugs is a problem. In some of part of town are shootings and knifing.

Those stories don’t make sense to me. And there is always someone who posts an alternative scenario that the media supposedly didn’t report on, like in the Yarl case, multiple cars pulling in and out of the driveway and other things to make the homeowner think he might be under attack. Some say it doesn’t seem likely that Yarl would not have recognized that he was at the wrong house. But people do get confused.
Whatever the case, in each instance, it appears that the shooters jumped to conclusions and thought deadly force was called for before they fully evaluated the situation. But that’s what we’re supposed to think; it makes gun owners look trigger-happy and irresponsible.
I keep wondering if this is a new trend for gun control. But how could these events be planned?
It could be that in a nation of 330M+ people and at least twice that many firearms, that something like this is happening at least once a day, somewhere in the country.
Not that long ago, it would just be a local story.

First, looking at these things on social media, one will always see lots of theories posted from all perspectives. People will even post “additional facts” which are not always facts. I do not give all these things equal weight, and a lot of them I simply set off to the side as “wait for more evidence before even considering this.”
Now – there IS a possibility that such events can be set up.
Part of the reason I know this, is because they tried to do similar things to me – several times. Not the same as this, but “somebody” (most likely FIB) tried to entrap me in different ways, until they basically gave up – most likely because of repeated, costly backfires.
And there are other cases with other people where I’m sure that “incidents” have been engineered using MK – both for political and economic reasons – usually both at the same time.
With Crump showing up, I could almost believe that the Ralph Yarl case was some kind of set-up. HOWEVER, I kinda don’t think so. I think the simplest and tightest explanation is an old guy scared of crime.
There WOULD be a way using MK on two people to make this Yarl thing happen, but the circumstances would need to be tighter and more controlled for me to really suspect that there was engineering here.
So IMO, both these cases are simply due to people afraid because of increased crime, and not thinking clearly, and likely not having been properly trained in home defense.
However, if sketchy details started to be revealed, I could easily revise that thinking.

Sad to say, but people pull into driveways to turn around, to find addresses they can’t figure out, etc., all the time. Technically it’s illegal for people to pull into driveways under some circumstances, but the law is pretty forgiving, for good reasons, though this varies incredibly based on state and local law.
The bottom line is that simply yelling “You’re TRESPASSING!” is all one needs to put almost any visitor into “You have to leave now” legal mode. SIMPLE.

The other night I heard lots of commotions voices of a bunch of teenagers. Dog had a conniption but I did not let him out. The next day I notices my phone line was wrapped on my pergola and that does not happen on its own. I assume kids having fun one dared to get in my garden knowing and seeing the dog sign. They found a ladder my husband left out. I could have gone out with shot gun and dog. The dog could bitten someone and depending how many kids I could have shot one.
The reason I do not let the dog out I do not want him to get hurt one never knows if they have a gun. If they come in the house is another thing.

I remember a few people here reporting unusual internet problems recently. Here’s my story to add to the list.
Two weeks ago, the VPN that I’ve used for years without issue suddenly wouldn’t let me log in and use their servers. I contact customer service. Customer service tells me that it’s an ongoing issue they’re aware of and working on. I try searching Google and social media to see if anyone else is having a similar experience with this VPN, but find nothing. No discussion about service outages, no complaints, nothing. Over a week goes by, still no VPN. Fed up, I send an email telling them to cancel my subscription and refund the time I have left on my account. Less than 24 hours later, they email me back telling me it’s fixed. Indeed, I can log in and use the VPN again like nothing happened.
Frankly, I have no idea how to read the situation. Was it all just a coincidence, or were they deliberately screwing with my account? I can’t tell.
Also on the topic of internet problems, my Twitter account remains suspended. There’s no indication that they even looked at my appeal.
Sounds like a lazy answer. I would wonder how well these VPN companies are staffed. I imagine most of them are not big outfits and your email got them off their butt to fix the problem.

Normally the Fire training is 4-6 months but they want to get his group done in 4-6 weeks. We’re concerned for his, & teammates’, safety w/ this abbreviated preparation–yikes!
Daughter & son-in-law have Still not moved into their house so they might stay with us after baby’s born or continue at his dad’s house where they currently live–interesting times.
I’m supposed to be there for the birth, something that covid rules prevented when our first grandchild was born last year. Should be special memories made!

Considering today’s the anniversary of Waco when our government decided it would be a good idea to shoot women and children and set them on fire for their own “safety.” Now’s probably a good time to talk about the Oklahoma Bombing that also occurred this day…
• Why was Mcveigh’s “getaway vehicle” the most obvious, rusty, no license plate, please pull me over car in the world?
• We still don’t know the identities of the other people seen with McVeigh on the morning of the bombing that more than 20 eyewitnesses were unanimous in telling the FBI he was not alone.
• No explanation on the two other people that were seen renting the bomb truck on 17 April, neither of them fitting McVeigh’s description.
• Frontline investigators and lawyers who prosecuted the case claimed many leads were shut down by the FBI themselves without explanation.
• As the government struggled to find evidence that McVeigh had been at the key locations in the bomb plot, his role was expanded from suspect to “solo mastermind.”
• The Ryder truck was first seen downtown around 8am…50 minutes before McVeigh claimed to have arrived.
• We still don’t know the identities of the two men who rented the bomb truck under an alias in Junction City, Kansas.
• The FBI could never show how McVeigh got to the rental shop from a McDonald’s where he was captured on surveillance tape shortly before the time stamp on the rental agreement.
• Nichols’ attorney, Michael Tigar, expressed no doubts about the FBI’s role in the matter.
• A Chinese restaurant delivery man testified that when he delivered food to McVeigh’s hotel room the night before the bombing, it was not McVeigh who answered the door. The FBI actually identified the second man and “concluded” he was not involved. Oh OK. (They were also 3 people registered to Paddock’s room during the Las Vegas shooting the FBI also refuses to name or investigate because they don’t see how they could be “involved” either.)
• Critics complained that previous warnings of bombing threats were ignored by authorities.
• The Feds showed little interest in answering any of these aforementioned questions once the case against McVeigh and Nichols was set. The Clinton administration wanted convictions and “closure.” Yea, I bet…
• Multiple witnesses claimed to see what looked like unexploded ordinances being removed by federal agents, and many criticisms have been made that claim it looks like the building blew from the inside out…not outside in.
• Supposedly damaging government paperwork was being stored in the building, I guess we’ll never know now.
• They had written up the first version of the Patriot Act to spy on Americans for this attack…but couldn’t get it to pass until 9/11 occurred.
• Even leftist line-toeing outlets like CNN put out a story implying the Feds probably had the hand in the suspicious death of a cop that saw something he shouldn’t have while he was pulling people out of the bombing area. I’ve included that article below.
Do you really think a government that spies on everything we do, just magically never happens to catch any these people before they do anything? Even when they have warning? Or doesn’t have the ability to find any of these other “suspects” after the fact with all their unlimited resources?

I’d been hearing for years about that day from my friend who lived there and was downtown when it happened that it was eerily calm, little traffic and that he noticed helicopters which was unusual. He also claimed that he had heard that the FIB offices were basically unmanned that day.
I looked up the 168 victims to see if even one FIBBER was mentioned. No. I always thought it strange that not one was mentioned as hurt and definitely not dead.
Lucky I guess they were all out in the field that morning. 🤔
I thought that the FIBer’s that were allegedly killed died in friendly fire & their deaths were the excuse for the all out assault. Eerie evil unleashed!

OK, my mistake. I heard about various fed offices in OKC being empty that day too. I had a friend in Tulsa who said that seismic activity monitored in several universities revealed multiple events (explosions) so the Actual story was (as always) very different from the “narrative” 🙁

Yes, Wisteria is beautiful, but be careful. It is a highly invasive plant that will try to take over anything/everything it can got to.
Plus, Since HRC [lock her up] I’m a bit turned off by the “Color Purple”

I’ve never seen Wisteria in person so thought it might prefer more southern climes. HildaBeast won’t ruin purple for me as it’s my favorite color, but I can appreciate the sentiment due to that distasteful association…
There are at least two types of Wisteria — Chinese and Japanese. One of them blooms in the spring and then sets leaves; the other sets leaves in the spring and then blooms. Don’t ask me which is which.
They can take a fair amount of cold and are deciduous.
Wisteria has very heavy vines, and a common error is to grow them on a light arbor — which they will collapse. Wisteria arbors should be built of 2×4’s and 4×4’s or better. Their roots are invasive, but not horrendously so — 15′ or 20′ from other structures should be fine.
You can fertilize them heavily EXCEPT in early spring when they are leafing and blooming — because the leaves will then bury the flowers.
They also need thinning. Shaded branches will not bud and will just stay dead. You will ordinarily discover this after everything is covered with new growth.
Those are good tips, if we Ever decide to try some, if they even grow in Michigan. I Love how they look & appreciate those colors so it would be worth it, if possible 🙂

If this rash of reports of accidental shootings is part of a gun control agenda then it would seem that the publicity of these shootings is designed to tell the public that there is no such thing as a responsible gun owner. I expect it would be designed to advance federal regulations that any gun buyer must show evidence of completing an “approved” gun safety course before permission to purchase a gun is granted. More federal control and a redefinition of 2nd amendment rights.
Except that any state that tries to enact more arms infringement will have that unconstitutional law appealed immediately, and it will likely have an injunction against it until the appeal is resolved, and the appeal will go to the (not)Supreme Court, and the current (not)Supreme Court will reject that unconstitutional law.
If every state in the union had 100 shootings per day, every day, it wouldn’t change the Constitution even a tiny bit.
It’s not even like one of those phony latter day amendments in the high 20s. The right to keep and bear arms is in the actual and original Bill of Rights.

It’s not going anywhere.
Which is why it never makes any sense to appeal to the public for gun control, no matter how many ‘tragedies’ take place.

I think (just my opinion) that you may be underestimating our opponent.

Well if there is, we certainly have a few “winners”…..
My guess would be that she was startled by the encounter and her friend’s car was the nearest place that she felt safe. The friend could have then accompanied her to her own car.
You’d think that her car would be very close to the car she got in.
By going back to the other car, she demonstrates any notion of her intent to go to her car as being false. The guys mind is already churning trying figure out what is happening. She likely said something like “oh sorry, thought this was my car” But the guy likely just saw her get out of a car and try to get in his. Now she’s going back to the car she got out of. So now he’s out of his car wanting to know what the heck just happened. Further by rolling down the window while getting ready to leave signals possible intent he’s going to get fired on. The guy is likely wise to street walkers and meth heads, possibly of criminal mind. Nothing in the story about him owning the gun legally that I can remember. A cop under such encounter may have also shot first. They get very skittish under such circumstances.
Now all that said, a second story actually says she did get into her own car, but the story doesn’t seem as well put together and actually seems prepared to correct that point in the first story.
Of the three stories so far, this one seems the most chargeable though, but I don’t think we should loose track that it was the actions of the victims in all three stories that led them to getting shot.
