It’s an old geezer who looks nothing like he used to look, playing songs everybody’s heard 10,000 times at least. Oh yeah, there ain’t enough Honey Buckets so there’s a half hour wait in line with no shade. And there’s too many stoned people who talk too loud and think they’re at a sing-along but none of them can carry a tune.

The problems were very near the opposite.
If you knew what he looked and sounded like 25 years ago, he pretty much looks and sounds that way today — just slower and less athletic.
He was playing in support of an album that nobody has bothered to publish yet, called “I/O” (due out in December).
It was in a nice, new facility that is usually used for hockey. There were some issues about it being cold inside. There were, however, plenty of restrooms.
Finally, semi-autistic Silicon Valley types don’t do sing-alongs well.

Part I — the Problem
PG was playing a concert in San Francisco on a Wednesday in a huge venue deep in enemy territory. Available seats were over $400 and were far from optimal. The Fiancee would have had to take two days off work; we would have had to arrange transportation to the venue; we would have had to probably spend the night in SF (itself $$$) afterward, and we would have been threatened by the homeless, the mentally ill, street crime, and filth — both repulsive and health-threatening.
PG is 72 years old. His concert bassist, Tony Levin, has been with him for 57 years. His guitarist, David Rhodes, has been on concert duties with him for 54 years. Simply waiting for the next tour has significant risks.
Part II — The Plan
Instead of dealing with San Francisco at all, even if only 60 miles North of us……we’d go see the concert in Palm Springs, 450 miles South. I could drive down Friday, the Fiancee could fly into Ontario airport Saturday morning, we could see the concert Saturday night, spend the night in Palm Springs, and drive back together on Sunday. No missed work days!
Part III — The Execution
I knew I had to spend the night near the Ontario Airport, in some cheap flop — but hopefully one without gang-bangers, drugs, or prostitution. So I did an Orbitz search in a larger-and-larger circle around Ontario until places started getting cheap. East and West of Ontario looked iffy, but the same circle also went North…..and I found the High Desert Inn in Hesperia.
When I plotted my Friday route, based on that location, I found I could cut over on CA-58 and miss all the joyful Friday LA traffic.
I’d always imagined Palm Springs to be farther East of Ontario than it actually is — that worked out well. We easily found a Motel 6 that would work…..
Part IIIb2 — The OTHER Execution
When we checked into the Motel 6 in Palm Springs, we were dismayed to find that there was no apparent power plug near the beds to run my CPAP breathing machine. After the concert, we moved the beds and discovered one, but the Fiancee had been quite concerned.
Note that the “cheap flop” in Hesperia had no such issue.
Part IIIb3 — The OTHER Execution
On the way South, I decided to stretch my legs and get some gas off of I-5. The Harris Ranch exit had a number of gas stations, so I was thinking “competition — they’d likely be fair”. I was charged $6.68/gallon. At the next exit, gas was a dollar cheaper.
Part IIIb1 — The OTHER Execution
I had printed directions from Mapquest as well as my trusty GPS, which needed a map update. Both went nuts when they tried to get on CA-58 in Bakersfield. It seems that the locals had a new section of freeway, and the computers attempted to steer by side streets across the space the new road was to occupy.
So the directions I had were detours around the construction zone and temporary road-access when the freeway was beginning to be used, mixed together. On the ground, some of the temporary road access was made redundant by (undocumented) final road access, and much of the detour roads were being rebuilt because of damage sustained when they were a detour.
It took me an entire hour to pass this section.

Peter Gabriel has put on a couple of the best concerts I have ever seen in my life — Secret World and Growing Up. I would thoroughly recommend watching them on YouSchmoob.
This concert was not up to that level. Further, half the music was from a CD that is yet to be released.
So many people were recording the concert from the audience that the viewscreens were nearly as bright as the stage. People are awful, and cellphones doubly so. Some of the non-musical interludes seemed a little globalist in their preachiness….but PG was somewhat careful.
That said, the man knows how to entertain, and his band was phenomenal. The staging and special effects were beautiful and really enhanced the music.

(That’s one of the new ones, BTW — I’d never heard it before.)
Part V — The Extract
The Fiancee was tremendously concerned about getting home in time for her to make it to work the next day. OTOH, we had to stop to take a picture of a Joshua Tree, numerous “pit stops”, a couple of gas stops, a detour to see the Tehachapi train loop, lunch…..
So what was nominally a 7 hour trip took 11.
One nice point was that we ignored the GPS and other instructions and just rode CA-58 until it hit I-5. It took us by a large ugly fire in Bakersfield where we could see the flames, but we just kept driving.
Part VII — Summary
A nice little operation that saved us hundreds of dollars. Quite the treat.
Part VI — Happy Details
The Fiancee had never before seen a Joshua Tree, and we both got to see a train do the Tehachapi Loop.
At the point where the train crosses over itself, the tracks are 77 feet apart vertically.

Tehachapi Loop is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. While living in Ridgecrest, CA, many Saturday’s we’d drive an hour. Sit of the side of the hill, eating lunch, watching trains.
I did see someone’s layout of a mountain line.
To render the differences in elevation he’d have the trains move in a spiral which was enclosed; to see the spiral you had to crawl under the table and then prairie-dog into the big plywood box he had built.
Our neighbor in Taxachusetts had the entire attic dedicated to model rail. He put together SEVERAL 4X8 sheets of plywood … VERY COOL.
I think the last word is mis-spelled. Shouldn’t it be BROOM, as in ‘she chased me out swinging her BROOM’.

every Christmas, my grandfather took over their sitting room. he had the most wonderful putz…kids from the neighborhood couldn’t wait till Grandpa started up the trains. he had all different scales–he built houses and stores–there was a tunnel for the cable car. he spent hours and hours on arranging everything just right.
but none of us got to flip the switches and run the trains. Grandpa was adamant about that.
but still…it made Christmas magical

Wow! Sounds like fun. We had (before the books and schoolwork invasion hit 🙂 ) a few layouts in different gauges and brands in our downstairs living room… Started out as BRIO, then added LEGO trains (the ones from around 2000, not the battery-powered crud), then Lionel, then Trix/Fleischmann H0.
If we didn’t get killed by LEGO bricks on the floor, it was a lot of fun… The LEGO train was like a Gauge I or LGB, but of course not much detail (being plastic), the Lionel was from 1953, still going strong (needs a new smoke unit because someone who I won’t name got a little too aggressive cleaning it 🙂 ), the Trix and Fleischmann are nice H0, but the RP25 wheels on the Trix (I found out 🙁 ) don’t play well with the Fleischmann switches… so Big Boy and his Mikado brethren are waiting until I get ones that are compatible (and affordable)… And the Brio (also from the 1990s and early 2000s) is all from Sweden or Germany and all manual; no battery-powered RED CHINESE locos or anything like…
It was a lot of fun… sigh… maybe we can build some of it back up… or move some furniture out 😮
Nothing like a model railroad, but it seems kids don’t have the interest that they used to. When I was a wee bairn, the Sears store in Hayward had a HUGE layout downstairs around Christmas… late 1950s/early 1960s… and the place would just be full of kids looking at the Lionel Trains and begging their parents to buy some, even if it was just a 151 Semaphore or a 145 Gateman… or the Sheriff and Hobo car 🙂
Grandpa brought his trains from Austria, but the rest he built. he lovingly made street signs and stop signs. railroad crossing signs. there were so many levels. sigh…when he passed, my Grandma gave the entire thing to my uncle. Pop was mad, but it was hers to give. My pop got the accordians (because Pop played)

That’s the thing with toys, especially when you forget about them for a while (busy with school, sports, friends, etc.) and then you want them and they’re gone… I had a Kenner Girder-Panel-Highway set that I just loved, along with Tonka/Buddy-L/other construction toys… now they’re going for hundreds on eBay 🙁 Still, I’d take the Lionel train over any of them…

Another reason I wanted to take the CA-58 route is that it gets close to the beginning of I-40. I hope that experience with this will come in handy sometime soon.

IMO, Rite Aid has been on the financial ropes for some time.
The chain really did try to bridge the gap between the old “independent family pharmacy” and the current “impersonal mega chain CVS-type pharmacy” concepts.
My rite aid closed a few yrs ago. Cvs is everywhere like starbucks. Not as many walgreens, but their service is awful. Cvs is $$$ though. Told me 1 if kiddo’s meds wasnt covered anymore. Normal $5 copay but they wanted $30. Costco had it over the counter for more ounces and less than half the price.
We still get decent service at a local Rite Aid, fwiw…
We usually get my son’s non-transplant related meds there, depending on insurance issues, at least historically. We get the transplant meds from the Transplant Pharmacy shipped monthly, except when insurance made us go elsewhere & that’s when we couldn’t get sufficient Prograf & he had his Rejection bout in summer 2020 & “we almost lost the liver”…

Well, sort of.
An ionophore assists a substance with entrance into cells. A ZINC ionophore assists zinc through the cell wall, which helps kill covid and other cold viruses.
The ionophore mentioned in the article is an antibiotic ionophore. Why they are using it is to assist the antibiotics they give the animals. So it’s different.
I have bad news for people. It’s not just fast food. These chemicals, like glyphosate, and various hormones and antibiotics are in most food you buy in a grocery store, organic or not.
Organic food is “allowed” a certain level of them. The only way out is grow it yourself, and/or REALLY know your farmer!
They claim that glyphosate leaves the soil in a short time, but if your organic farmer is growing in soil that had glyphosate applied in the last ten years, I’d bet the residue is in the food.

Bolded that one part for an explainer. The Western Roman Empire that led the Crusades saw this as a black and white issue. At one point after hundreds of years fighting the Islamic Scourge and each other, Constantinople was sacked by the Crusaders and they fled to the North toward the Black Sea and Ukraine. After about a hundred years they were able to retake the city and began again until the Muslim hordes finally sacked their city so they had to flee again to the North. In a lot of ways the Western Crusaders kept mucking up the plan in how to deal with Islam. Any way those Eastern, Constantinople sediments on how to deal with the Islamic states ended up in Russia where they remain today.
Of course there is much more involved, but that’s the general theme I’ve picked up. The West has had excesses, Islamic States have definitely had excesses and the East because of it’s close proximity to the expanding Islamic States has had to thread its way between the two and often enough not in a glorious way.

The first sack was done by Western Crusaders in 1203, mostly under the insistence of the Venetians in conjunction with a few of the other Western powers. Reason giving was to help a heir to the crown but the heir’s claims were very much disputed and it was a pretext. There had been some bad blood between West and East but it got worse when East imposed taxes on the Venetians who had been allowed to sell in Constantinople tax free for decades.
About sixty years later the old aristocracy was able to seize the city back from the Crusaders and held it till the Ottomans’ finally breached it’s walls after a long siege.
The second and final sack that still has Constantinople in the hands of Ottoman Turks under Mehmed II occurred in 1553.
In both sacks of the city most of the inhabitants were put to sword, people murdered raped, and treasures looted.

EXC: Hunter Biden Owned Financial Stake In Digital Banking Platform For Undocumented Migrants, Introduced Founder To Joe Biden.
➡️ ePlata, a digital banking platform partnered with the Mexican government to enable migrants to send and receive remittances, has deep financial and personnel ties to Hunter Biden.
The fintech startup describes itself as a “multi-balance, multi-currency digital wallet and payment ecosystem” and was founded by one of Hunter Biden’s long-time business partners Jeff Cooper. Documents unearthed from Hunter Biden’s hard drive also reveal that the president’s son held an 8.25 percent stake in ePlata through his company Owasco LLC, though it is unclear if he still retains the position.
Several individuals who have financial ties to Hunter Biden, however, have recently been appointed to the company’s Board of Directors.
Emails obtained from Hunter Biden’s hard drive prove the president’s son was profiting off of ePlata, receiving a $20,000 wire transfer from the company in April 2015.
ePlata “offers worldwide banking without the need for a traditional bank account,” continues a company synopsis, which also raises concerns about the platform potentially being used for money laundering and other criminal activities including human trafficking.
While ePlata was launched in 2016, in recent years it has made broader efforts to grow, including appointing several Hunter Biden-linked individuals to its Global Advisory Board in 2019.
ePlata also appears to have a financial interest in supporting mass migration to the U.S. given the company positioning itself as the premier platform for sending and receiving remittances. In emails obtained from Hunter Biden’s hard drive, the company pitched itself as “focused on providing cross-border remittances.”
Remittances represent a key financial aspect of mass migration – both legal and illegal – as it refers to migrants sending funds from their current country of residence back to their home country. The payments constitute a massive industry worth over $150 billion annually in the U.S. alone and harm America’s economy, as the sizable sum leaves the country untaxed.
Mexico consistently ranks as the top destination for outbound remittances from the U.S., and nearly 95 percent of inbound remittances to Mexico come from migrants living in the U.S.
ePlata has made the controversial form of payment a cornerstone of its business, highlighting how the platform can be used for “cross-border remittances” on the front page of its website:
“Labor moves around the globe, and when workers move so does their money. The global nature of labor often makes it difficult for someone to have a bank account in the country where they are employed. This is why ePlata allows you to transact in the currency of your choice and without limits across geographic borders. Is there any reason money transfers should be more expensive because one person lives in a different country? ePlata does not think so. With ePlata, simple, secure and inexpensive international transactions are now in the palm of your hand.”
Contrary to traditional bank regulations, ePlata appears to make sending and receiving money easy for users, including illegal aliens, given its lax identification requirements for signing up.
“You can then create an ePlata account by simply entering your name, address, email address and mobile number. That’s it, no hassle, no pain, no cost. With ePlata, setting your money free is as easy as one, two, three,” explains a summary of the platform’s onboarding.
The company’s emphasis on remittances comes amidst its 2019 partnership with the Mexican government whereby the Office of the Federal Prosecutor for the Consumer, which falls under the auspices of the Mexican Attorney General, selected ePlata as one of two fintech companies it endorsed for citizens to send and receive remittances.
The head of Mexico’s Consumer Protection Agency also highlighted ePlata as one of the country’s leading platforms for sending and receiving remittances during a presidential press briefing.
Jeff Cooper, the founder of ePlata, and Hunter Biden have a long history of collaboration, including on some of the president’s son’s most controversial business dealings implicating Joe Biden exposed through his “Hard Drive From Hell.”
While pursuing deals with Mexican billionaires during Joe Biden’s tenure as Vice President, Cooper and Hunter Biden exploited the privileges of the office – including White House Events, trips on Air Force Two, and meetings with Joe Biden – to lure clients.
Cooper, who has appeared in photos with Hunter, Joe, and various Mexican billionaires, even joined Hunter on a February 2016 Air Force Two flight to Mexico.
Hunter Biden and Cooper had previously worked together trying to raise funds from Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim for their venture Ocho Gaming, which a whistleblower recently revealed that Joe Biden was involved in as a “silent investor.”
The hard drive also reveals that as late as 2018, Hunter Biden and Cooper were still soliciting money from the Slim family with the assistance of Joe Biden.
“Spoke to my dad about ‘Slim ask,’ ” Hunter wrote Cooper after a visit from his father in Los Angeles. “Oh that sounds SO F’ING GOOD” replied Cooper.
ePlata appears to still maintain its links to Hunter Biden, appointing three individuals to its eight-person board in addition to Cooper who are linked to the president’s son.
Among the members of the advisory board is Vuk Jeremic, a former President of the United Nations General Assembly who became a consultant for Chinese energy giant CEFC, which partnered with Hunter on a multi-million-dollar oil and gas deal.
Board member Miguel Aleman Magnani was also engaged in business deals with Hunter Biden which eventually led to him meeting then-Vice President Joe Biden.
“I have brought every single person you have ever asked me to bring to the F’ing White House and the Vice President’s house and the inauguration and then you go completely silent,” Hunter Biden wrote in an email to Magnani, alluding to his exploitation of his father’s political office on behalf of his business partners.
“I don’t know what it is that I did but I’d like to know why I’ve delivered on every single thing you’ve ever asked” and you make me feel like I’ve done something to offend you,” he added.
Fellow Board Member Xin Wang is a Managing Director at BHR Partners
Xin Wang is also on the board of ePlata, concurrently serving as a Managing Director BHR Partners, a highly controversial joint venture between an investment fund founded by Biden and Obama-era Secretary of State John Kerry’s stepson and the state-owned Bank of China.
The president’s son pledged to divest of his 10 percent stake in BHR Partners in 2019, which was notoriously birthed less than two weeks after Biden traveled to China alongside his father and then-Vice President, but reportedly still owns 10 percent of the fund.
In addition to the aforementioned Hunter Biden links plaguing ePlata, perhaps the biggest conflict of interest is the fact that the company benefits from Joe Biden’s failure to secure the southern border and continued enabling of unprecedented levels of legal and illegal immigrants to enter the U.S.
As this population grows, ostensibly ePlata’s profits through more remittances being sent and received increase, too.
ePlata’s expansion – which includes collaboration with governments in countries such as Mexico – also overlaps with the agenda of groups such as the World Economic Forum (WEF) and G20 to roll out “digital identity” infrastructure worldwide.

I know there are those here who follow the writings of Victor Davis Hanson. The above link is his analysis of the Hamas pogrom of recent days. His take is brutal and blunt. You may wish to read it.
He does deliver a well deserved blistering condemnation on the Hamas butchery but also adds a denunciation of the Democrat left. My impression after reading was that famous Q line, “they won’t be able to walk down the street.”
While I try to bring an objective eye to what response is appropriate I also realize that I am sitting on my couch well out of harm’s way at the moment. After looking at the map, it is not possible to ‘permanently block off’ a festering wound in one’s side.
It’s like trying to block off your body from your liver.
There is only one realistic long-term solution, which is to evacuate Gaza, destroy the tunnels, and take it over, making Gaza a permanent part of Israel.
No country can exist with a sworn enemy inside its borders. Imagine if Missouri was taken over by HamISIS. You don’t try to find a way to live with that, it’s insane.
You eradicate the enemy and take the land. There is no other answer which does not lead to a repeat performance of October 7, or worse.
