I stumbled across this video about a week ago and bookmarked it, because I thought I remembered you mentioning the Luton Airport fire, but I wasn’t sure.

When I saw it here again today, I found the video in my bookmarks and watched it all the way through.

According to this fellow, the fire at the Luton Airport parking garage was not an EV fire at all. It was started by a diesel powered Range Rover.

By the way, I should mention none of these were electric, they all internal combustion engine vehicles. There’s been a series of pretty insane car fires recently. I’m not even talking electric cars here, I’m talking internal combustion cars.
 
Bizarrely, on what is kind of the anniversary of a major gasoline car fire from a Land Rover vehicle that s on fire a bunch of other cars, the same exact thing has happened, an airport has been partially incinerated, and in another instance one gasoline powered car that caught fire ended up burning down 15 other cars.

However it’s worth pointing this out first, and I always want to make this point very clear because the media would like to confuse you. I don’t know why there’s a bit of an anti-EV agenda, electric cars on average statistically worldwide are 100 or nearly 100 times less likely to have a fire of any kind than an internal combustion vehicle, like a gasoline or diesel powered vehicle.
 
However that totally changes with plugin hybrids. Plug-in hybrids are about 300 times more likely to have a fire than an electric car. So often the media reports there was an EV fire, look an EV caught fire, and actually very commonly, especially in China, they’re actually plug in hybrids that have these fire problems.
 
So what’s going on here, what are these stories that I’m hearing? Well Range Rover sparked a fire in an airport car park that collapsed and this comes six years after a Land Rover destroyed Liverpool’s Echo Arena car park, and 6 months after Land Rover recalls.
 
Now the Range Rover that fire that sparked last night’s Luton Airport car park Inferno came 6 years after a Land Rover — both internal combustion gasoline powered — went up in flames at Liverpool’s Echo Arena car park and destroy that car park.
 
So an airport car park, now a car park uh at a football pitch, have been destroyed by Land Rover vehicles and, strangely, I don’t hear anyone calling for the cessation uh stopping the production of these Land Rover vehicles. Isn’t that weird? 
 
Anyway, in 2017 a Land Rover burst into flames in a multi-story car park in Liverpool in the UK creating a literal inferno it was insane. It was 1,000° C and it incinerated a staggering 1,600 vehicles. Now imagine if an electric car did that, imagine an electric car just caught fire of its own accord. That’s what happened here, and it destroyed an entire car park, created a fire that would have roasted anyone or any living creature within um probably 100 meters of it 1,000° more than 1,000° centigrade and it incinerated 1,600 vehicles.
 
There would be international uproar and the production of EVs would surely somehow be impacted significantly. Anyway, if it’s a gas powered vehicle you probably never even heard of it, right? Well last year a mother of two said she was forced to LEAP from a window when her her Range Rover exploded.  She was stuck in the car, couldn’t get out, and the thing just burned itself to the ground very quickly. This was not an old car by the way, but you probably haven’t heard of that story either.
 
Now 100 fire fighters spent 12 hours battling the inferno. One and a half thousand, in fact 1,600 cars were lit on fire by that one car. This was a 20 million pound, or around about a $40 million destruction, and it was just utter devastation. However, the fire at Luton Airport that caused the destruction of 1,500 cars has caused massive damage to the airport car park, it just, it can’t even be used, it’s basically completely unusable, and it’s actually now had a significant structural collapse. In other words this, it’s an enormous car park, has just basically been destroyed.
 
Now I know it’s not very similar to the World Trade Center, but it just reminds me of that, it reminds me of that. Fortunately no one here died, I don’t think anyway, but it reminds me of that situation where, when you have a catastrophic fire of this size, then the structural integrity of a building can just be completely destroyed. The fire rapidly spread from the car parked on the third level of a car park, with firefighters battling throughout the night to stop the flames from reaching nearby buildings, vehicles, aircraft and the actual train line as well. This was a major catastrophe.  You’re talking, like I said many, many different fire brigades had to band together one over 100 fire fighters were called to this area from numerous different fire stations.
 
What vehicle started the fire? Well initially we didn’t know, but it appears as though it was a British built Land Rover, which to be fair, they’re not known for their reliability. Now actually I’ve just checked the data, it wasn’t a Land Rover, it was a Range Rover, but I mean, same thing.
 
An investigation into the cause of the blaze is currently underway, but honestly I don’t know what they’re going to find, I mean the original offending vehicle is incinerated to virtually nothing, so good luck with that. Anyway, here’s what actually happened.
 
There was 15 rescue pumps, three aerial appliances and, in other words you know three helicopters with or planes with the ability to throw water onto the fire, and over 100 firefighters on the scene at the height of the fire.
 
Flights in and out of the airport even had to be suspended because the fire and the smoke was so bad. Five people, four of them firefighters, were treated for smoke inhalation, but the fire was extinguished eventually after about 10 to 12 hours on the Wednesday morning. However fire brigade of the fire fighters couldn’t leave until the following afternoon, later in the afternoon, because fires just kept on breaking out all over the place, as you can imagine. 
 
Imagine how insane this would be, the, 1600 cars, you don’t know for sure all of them have had their fuel tanks pierced and blown up or burnt, it would be like an insane scene of absolute carnage. Flights in and out of the airport have suddenly resumed today, and the services Chief Fire Officer Andrew Hopkinson told the Independent the car park had no sprinklers, which could have had a positive impact. I personally, I’m not convinced that this would have solved the problem, it was a catastrophic failure. 
 
What surprises me probably more than anything about all of this is that electric cars are not being blamed for this fire kind of weird to hear them not being blamed. 
 
Anyhow guys, this is what can happen, this happens for gasoline powered vehicles all the time, like I said it’s more than 100 times more likely that a gasoline or diesel powered vehicle will set fire to itself. So if you want the absolute safest car uh, whether that’s in a crash or when a fire happens, then it’s definitely an electric one, regardless of whether or not you have an LFP or Turnery battery.
