The Window of the Heart
Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. (Hebrews 12:3)
One of the most remarkable capacities of the human mind is the capacity to direct its own attention to something it chooses. We can pause and say to our minds, “Think about this, and not that.” We can focus our attention on an idea or a picture or a problem or a hope.
It is an amazing power. I doubt that animals have it. They are probably not self-reflective, but rather governed by impulse and instinct.
Have you been neglecting this great weapon in the arsenal of your war against sin? The Bible calls us again and again to use this remarkable gift. Let’s take this gift off the shelf, and dust it off, and put it to use.
For example, Paul says in Romans 8:5–6, “Those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace”.
This is stunning. What you set your mind on determines whether the issue is life or death.
Many of us have become far too passive in our pursuit of change and wholeness and peace. I have the feeling that in our therapeutic age we have fallen into the passive mindset of simply “talking through our problems” or “dealing with our issues” or “discovering the roots of our brokenness in our family of origin.”
But I see a much more aggressive, non-passive approach to change in the New Testament. Namely, set your mind. “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:2).
Our emotions are governed in large measure by what we consider — what we dwell on with our minds. For example, Jesus told us to overcome the emotion of anxiety by what we consider: “Consider the ravens. . . . Consider the lilies” (Luke 12:24, 27).
The mind is the window of the heart. If we let our minds constantly dwell on the dark, the heart will feel dark. But if we open the window of our mind to the light, the heart will feel the light.
Above all, this great capacity of our minds to focus and consider is meant for considering Jesus (Hebrews 12:3). So, let’s do this: “Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.”

Computers and cellphones adjust themselves, but there are still a bunch of “manual” clocks around.
The ones I hate are the digital clocks on everything, like stoves and microwaves, even stereos.

The hardest one for me is in my car. I sometimes dread and procrastinate a long time before tackling that one.
Yep. I’ll especially wait on the transition TO DST since I can say, “but that’s the real time.”
The new car that I have now actually uses GPS to set its clock. So all that was needed was to look in the settings and turn daylight saving time off. That wasn’t automatic, but still much more straighforward than the previous cars, that had to have the clock set manually somehow, besides losing a few minutes per month. Now the minutes are correct.
As for the clocks in the kitchen, they are at whatever they started at after the last power outage, whenever that was. For the oven and microwave, the important time is how long something is set to cook, never mind the calendar date or local solar time.
I procrastinate on the car clock until the time changes back again.

You want to be able to glance at the dials and tell if they are in normal range If they are pointing straight up or close to straight up everything is good to go.

Yep. A lot of effort has been expended to come up with good glass displays for airplane cockpits. I think they’ve finally managed to come up with something that works, but not much of that has worked its way into automobiles and trucks.
And don’t get me started on touch controls.
DVD players and the like are ignored around here. Rarely used these years.
The others ae useful. Adjusting time is simplistic. Yet annoying, as each has its own unique process.

the only exception is football–hubby likes the Bills– I like the Eagles…other than that we watch dvds. it’s stuff we like and no commercials.

Yup. Here no cable or dish TV. TV rarely on, except for old westerns / movies. Gunsmoke, Wanted dead Or Alive… Those are free on Roku, Pluto and Tubi. Mostly Pandora music playing here.. Also free.
Once every couple months, DW wants to rent a DVD from Red Box, or whatever those kiosks are called. Then she falls asleep watching it, as I doddle on the laptop. 😄
we have no cable available here at all. we have a $19.99 antenna from walmart. picks up the major stations and any one that broadcasts in HD. we don’t miss it at all.

In most cases, antenna does pick up a dozen or more stations. Including the major stations, in HD. Latter Federal law, I believe. Ours does. We just don’t watch it.
Got rid of cable/ dish ten+ years ago, in Ridgecrest, CA – Mojave Desert area. Have not missed it. Not Once.
While in both Ridgecrest and here Northern NV sticks, major sports typically available, over-the-air.
We even use the old, DirecTV hardware, to mount the antenna. 🙂

Then there is the landline, disconnected around, 2006. Latter of course, does not work for some, without cell service at home.
we could only get cable or a landline if we paid (by the FOOT) for them to hook it up from the last connection to us–5 MILES away. not happening.
antenna and satellite internet –which is crappy–but it’s something.

but we prefer it that way

Only yesterday I wished I lived in the hills love woods feel alive in woods.
we are surrounded by hills and live fairly far up on a hill ourselves. it’s a nightmare sometimes in the winter–the driveway is a half mile long and is fairly steep and slippery. we have to cross a small creek from the dirt road to even get to the driveway–sigh. but it’s beautiful here. definitely worth the struggles!

We do not have cable now for at least 25 years. The landline my husband insists on so I can speak to my brothers. I would get rid of it and let them get in touch with me on Internet.
I still do not have a TV except Dad’s old tube model from the 1950s.
If comms are taken down, I suspect landlines will be working longer than the Internet. On the other hand, sometimes you can get a text message out when you can no longer make a live call connection.

I think people were texting when they couldn’t make calls after the SF CA Loma Prieta earthquake.
That is true. When my granddaughter was in Alaska could not use her cell phone but occasionally was able to use face time. She studies computer science and miner business and figures out how to bead the system 🙂
I am old enough to know life without a phone so am not as hung up on phones.
Movies to sleep by. I remember being a child and my Dad would enjoy listening to baseball games as he drove our family for visits to our grandparents and other family. I enjoyed it too because it was great to nap while listening to the ball game. Parents probably appreciated no “are we there yets?”
My parents just handed me the map. I know I was reading maps better than my parents by the time I was 8 or 9.
I absolutely HATE written instructions. I want a ‘picture in my head’ to go with the words. (Drives hubby nutz.)
As a tech writer of instructions, I have always believed everyone is like you and hates written instructions. I add screenshots and line drawings whenever I can. At Dell, due to the sheer mass of instructions, their doc templates did not permit us to add graphics.
I used to go to Weird-Stuff Warehouse in Sunnyvale and go through these big display boxes of obsolete tech docs. It helped remind me of how little value tech docs have. They are timed and thereafter mostly obsolete.
I also told myself that the only time people came to read even a paragraph I had written was when people got stalled and couldn’t figure it out on their own. So I did try to make every sentence count.
When my Lab purchased a new Computer run HP gas Chromatograph I read the entire manual, used yellow highlighter and added tabs so I could find sections.
I have never taken any computer courses so a H/T to those writers. they did a wonderful job.
OH and Hubby was a Tech Writer for computer companies. Me? I wrote Lab manuals and QC manuals as well as running a lab.
Photos and drawings and charts are really needed for manuals in MHO.
I agree with providing photos, drawings, and charts! You and your Hubby have a lot of experience with documentation! I also wrote a lot of v1.0 documentation from scratch. The hardest for me was graph analysis but it was also a subject I really enjoyed learning and writing about.
Hubby is the real writer (fifth generation newspaper) I sort of fell into it because I was the only one in our plant who could actually write a decent report. (I took a tech writing course as well as English in college)
Our plant manager sent everyone else off to take a college writing course.😋
And of course I’d provide links to diagrams in the science series…where feasible. Sometimes I made the diagram myself.
That plus your fun conversational writing style is why I wanted to share your pieces as broadly as possible. Your graphics help me a lot in the science series.
I noticed on my first job that if I asked one of the secretaries for directions to someplace, it would be with words, e.g., “follow such-and-such freeway to the so and so exit”
If I asked one of the other engineers, they’d draw me a map.
Secretaries are verbal thinkers and Engineers are visual.

Yeah that was pretty much the conclusion I drew at the time.
Good grief I can’t imagine getting through most engineering classes without diagrams. Circuit diagrams for electronics, diagrams of the geometry for EM Fields, etc. etc. Maybe 100 years ago chemistry didn’t need diagrams, now structural formulae are a necessity and we know something of the actual geometry of molecules. DIagrams, if not actual 3D models, needed.

My microwave doesn’t have a didigtal clock on it (no way to set time of day) though it does have a digital *timer* on it. (If you are more Luddite you can still get the kind of microwave where you twist a knob to set the cook time.)
My stereo too managed to escape having a clock, but that’s probably because nothing on it can record off the air (programming something to tape at such-and-such time is why stereos needed clocks in the first place).
My stove does have a clock but it’s easy enough to set. So here’s what I have to set.
Cellphones and this computer all set themselves.
If I was to depend on myself I would leave the clocks from season to season and adjust myself for the one hour the clocks are out of step 🙂

The car clock is interesting for updating the time. Took months to be changed. My son came said ” mom your car clock is wrong I fixed it was that OK?” Some people figure those problems out in a minute 🙂

Sadly true. I see it you see it but most Americans do not because they have no experience in it were never exposed . I know i did not do my job telling my kids what it would be like what to look for. I had no idea the average weight for women was 170. I think it’s in the 190s for men.
i can say that the majority of younger girls and under 40’s females at the beach are chubby and downright fat. Always surprises me. AND the fat is beautiful campaign is working judging by the swim suits being worn by these gals. Sometimes i feel like I should avert my eyes..it’s just so unattractive !! 😜

err # 1 rule in my beachbilly crowd, no pics ! What happens at the beach is forgotten unless someone wants to entertain with a recreation of one of us trying to get out of a low sand chair or recounting someone chasing their hat down the beach. It doesn’t take much to entertain us.

Last time I went swimming in the Ocean I had a really bad red rash from head to foot.
It was a NJ Beach and I think there were chemicals from industry in the water.
I am not a big fan of ocean. I love to swim but only in a pool.

We had a weight limit for our largest ponies of 120# and we get a lot of four foot high blubber balls we have to tell they can not ride. Then the parents get belligerent. One called my helper a f..king C..nt. (The Mexican guys standing around told him off. 😉)
It is very very hard to not fire back — YOUR NEGLECTING YOUR CHILD’S HEALTH IS NOT MY FAULT, so BLAME YOUR SELF NOT ME!

kids today are stuck in front of screens–phone, computer, games. they’re being programmed to accept virtual life while ignoring REAL LIFE.
Some of those poor kids have NO MUSCLES. They can not climb up on the saddle and they can not even balance in the saddle.
I put a stool/ mounting block next to the pony and all they have to do is climb up and sling a leg over — THEY CAN NOT DO IT!!! It is really sad.

I agree it is child abuse feeding kids sugar foods and drink it is parents ob to help regulate sugar cravings of their young children. Sugar is a drug as far as I am concerned.

It depends on the person in my opinion. If you are a hypoglycemic (Low Blood Sugar) it very much puts you into a boost/high then crash cycle.
I am best off not eating any. I can take honey in small amounts. I had one hyper kid and we restricted sugar except on Friday they were able to get a candy bar. My kids all married sugar addicts . I did not get much sugar as kid my husband did. I guess it is like alcohol to some.

In one of her last acts as teacher of Grandson #1 in his 4th grade class, she had most of her class read and participate in a nightmare play of sorts with Taylor Swift as the subject in a horror story. when i worked in the local borough office, i found out that schools not only get $$ thru school taxes, they are entitled and receive (at least here in PA) part of all REAL ESTATE TAXES as well. Mini Ground Report –
China is doing well with Walmart locally. The aisles are filled with merchandise in our newly renovated local store. The renovation really is quite well done. Better lighting, much cleaner, aisles have sufficient room for two carts to pass, good signage, etc. Walmart has added a couple of brand name clothing lines and upgraded the baby and children’s selections. Food and household item aisles were well stocked.
Have seen a few more geezers wearing masks, but young people are out on that around here. Nobody much lining up for jabs. The jabbers are sitting around acting bored. Still some COVID around. Nobody talks about the flu anymore, it has to be COVID or it didn’t happen. Oh well.
People are insane on the highways. Common courtesy and driving defensively are out for many.
After a sharp drop in temps we are back up to the 70s and near 80 by midweek and dry as a bone. Too late in the season for Indian Summer. Strange. We’ve had a light snow in late October and early November many years. Wearing shorts this year.
Dolly’s new 300 room Heartsong Lodge opened. Quite a beautiful addition to her themed development. Dollywood is well on the way to eventually remaining open year round at some point in the future. She plans to no longer tour. Winding down the entertainment career as she is slowing down physically and her husband will likely be passing soon.

Good place to post an observation I learned at church today. Going around the class sharing prayer concerns (which takes forever now) and noticed our RN friend in her forties and her husband in his fifties were out. We had been on vacation and did not know that she had missed 4-5 Sundays at church, which she never does. Somebody asked for prayers for her and her husband, that they cannot get over respiratory infections with allergy, sinus and lung issues. Rounds of steroids, antibiotics, cocktail shots, etc. and still not any better. Both jabbed, which I told her to stop doing and she has.
Going to give her the protocol to clean the crap out of their systems. They may be ready to listen now.
I certainly hope it helps them.

Slower usually means insufficient RAM. Also, websites are using new bells & whistles, which Windows [not browsers only] cannot process. If you can add RAM, do so. Maybe problem solved.
New computer will not have slowness problem. Just saying.
Yep. I call it “dancing monkeys” syndrome, when a website puts up gratuitous graphics and animations (or forced autoplay) that I just know is sucking up connection bandwidth and/or CPU cycles.
I went to one blog once, where in the sidebar it would constantly loop and reload a video clip of the blogger asking the clickbaity teaser question for the next entry. It would run over and over again, and you couldn’t shut it off. Once would have been enough. (Bad enough they used video bandwidth to show a talking head.)
Then there was Truth About Guns…which was laid out in such a way as to force you to reload the page. Home page. Post. Make comment, it reloads the whole page.
And every single time, it would auto-run a video on how to unload a rifle.
Autoplaying videos is grounds for a kneecapping.
I absolutely HATE auto play. Depending, some video have to be played at full volume to be heard then you click on something else and get yours ears blasted deaf!
Sort of like the TV stations that would blast the commercials…presumably so you could hear them while you were taking a quick trip to the can.
I owned a portable CD player that would always start up at full volume. Nice when you’re wearing headphones and forget. (Sony was the perpetrator of that one.)

Every time I refresh I get a pop up — Page Unresponsive with the choice of EXIT PAGES or WAIT.
That finally goes away after a long while and then I get the ‘for on the bottom left.
The power went down about a week ago so we had all the computers off and had to restart.
That is due to a comm problem between the internet and your browser. I think it’s Qtree getting DDOS and the anti-DDOS software [if there is such a thing] is having trouble beating it back.

Yours Truly: It appears that VAERS is now firmly on the way out of being in any way trusted to publish reports sent to it regarding COVID-19 “vaccine”-engendered injuries, illnesses, and deaths. (IMO, this would also compromise the OpenVAERS website.)
Recall that, last year, VAERS discontinued accepting and/or reporting any new reports of these incidences sent to it by overseas countries.
Recall that, in the past few weeks, VAERS announced that it would only publish reports sent to it once a month, instead of every week.
NOW, it appears that VAERS is methodically deleting many already submitted reports.
Yours Truly suspects that all the above is being done to, shall we say, “shape a certain narrative” regarding the COVID-19 “vaccines.”

An anonymous hacker claims to have breached the digital ID numbers, as well as other sensitive personal data, of around 815 million Indian citizens.
To put that number in perspective, it is more than 60% of the 1.3 billion Indian people enrolled in the government’s Aadhaar biometric digital identity program, and roughly 10% of the entire global population. Thanks to the breach — the largest single one in the country’s history, according to the Hindustan Times — the personal data of hundreds of millions of Indians are now up for grabs on the dark web, for as little as $80,000.
To register for an Aadhaar card, Indian residents have to provide basic demographic information, including name, date of birth, age, address and gender, as well as biometric information, including ten fingerprints, two eyeball scans and a facial photograph. Much of that data has apparently been compromised.
Media reports suggest that the source of the leak was the Covid-19 test data of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which is linked to each individual’s Aadhaar number.
The alarm was first raised by Resecurity, a Los Angeles-based cyber security company, which on Oct 15 included the following in a blogpost on its corporate website:
On October 9th, a threat actor going by the alias ‘pwn0001’ posted a thread on Breach Forums brokering access to 815 million “Indian Citizen Aadhaar & Passport” records. To put this victim group in perspective, India’s entire population is just over 1.486 billion people.
HUNTER investigators established contact with the threat actor and learned they were willing to sell the entire Aadhaar and Indian passport dataset for $80,000.

Does this asswipe understand that none of his operatives in the US will be deported if they do anything like what Israel experienced? Nor will they get prosecuted. Their remains, however, might be returned unless they perish in Texas.
