I’ve been watching since I got home, waiting for someone to comment. LO-O-O-ONG rehearsal. And to make matters more interesting, the boiler in the undercroft at the Cathedral Basilica caught on fire today, so half the doors were open (there are eleven to the outside at nave level) and it’s less than 30 degrees here.
Are these rehearsals, or is it a new season of “Survivor”?

A good freeze is welcome, actually. We had a fast, sharp one last year, and then mild temps for the rest of winter. The leaf mold and other allergens are just awful.
That’s is what is getting everybody here in east TN. The crud is keeping the doc’s offices and emergency rooms filled. First hard freeze was last night and it is just now back up to 23 degrees. So that should help.
I started downloading links, then had to go shut the house down and got distracted.

Somewhat related, there is a period in childhood development where the child can learn several languages, fluently, in an amazingly short amount of time — so long as everyone speaking to the child consistently uses the same one.
During this magic period, which fades after age 5, a child can learn French from its nanny, English from its parents, Mandarin from its tutor, Yiddish from its grandparents, Spanish from its playmates, and Japanese from a shopkeeper…..all at the same time.
Interestingly enough, a child can also be trained to have perfect pitch during the same period — evidently, the same circuits are involved.

You might recognize this in 1984’s Newspeak, which was designed to make revolt against the regime unthinkable by eliminating the language that could express resistance. It is also raised in Heinlein’s SIASL, where telekinesis of an object is possible to those who can “whistle to it in Martian.”
One can easily chase down the rabbit hole by considering languages which have only two words for color (“light” and “dark”) or three (“light”, “dark”, and “red”). As it turns out, there is a standard sequence for languages to recognize colors such that the same five colors will be recognized by any language that has names for only five colors.
But, then, one has to consider the “magic years” phenomenon of language acquisition in children. The languages they learn need not use the same grammar. Some languages may conjugate their verbs and others may decline their adjectives. Some languages may be strongly gendered, or focus on word order, or have levels of hierarchy — children of a certain age seem to be able to deal with every human language, or multiples thereof.
The connection with music suggests that this ability may extend beyond human languages. One has to wonder where limits — if any — might be found.
Fortunately we can create a new concept (even if we have to use a sentence to explain it) then telescope it down to one word…possibly a reuse of some other word either from the speaker’s language or some other language. Which is how things like electrons ended up with one word names even though they’re quite complicated.

I must be missing something with this statement.
I take it that he supports it being appropriate to lie and spread disinformation that kills and injures people, but never appropriate to identify the guilty party publicly because that might mean the accuser will be identified as well. Except that’s not at all likely what’s happening here. Smith’s pack of pigs are likely going to bundle the information they’ve swindled from twitter and send it out to the Dem war machine in an effort to target Trump’s base in whatever nefarious ways that they can by using the IOT and other various schemes and mechenations.
Flash forward. Over dramatization of a company board meeting. Several seats are empty and in there place are cardboard cutouts of Trump, some of the others have second or third level department heads sitting in for them. No one has been fired or demoted (yet) they have just not been invited to this first meeting of the data dump.
Meeting starts. “In front of you are several lists of people from your department, from the vendors that your departments do business with and certain the customers that we serve, all of whom that for no better description are deemed MAGA and have been deemed by the DOJ and Defense to be potential traitors to the State…”
I just called my state Attorney General’s office to alert them to this. In a funny twist, the woman who answered the phone grew up in Georgia, about 40 miles from where I did! She recognized my accent, lol.
She will pass my message along, but I am sure the AG knows about it. Montana’s current AG Austin Knudsen has been pretty fantastic.
I think there needs to be a class action lawsuit on behalf of American citizens, whose Fourth Amendment rights against unreasonable search and seizure have been violated here.

An Indiana ex-con took “concealed carry” to a whole new level when cops found he was stashing a gun in his anal cavity during a traffic stop.
Christopher Boyd, 32, was riding in a vehicle that was pulled over at 2 a.m. Monday in Evansville because its license plate was obscured, according to a police report obtained by the Smoking Gun.
When cops patted down Boyd, they found “a small bag with multiple pills” in his right sock, which the suspect reportedly claimed were Percocets that he had scored from his “Aunt Trish” to deal with the pain of having a “bullet lodged in his spine.”
As the search continued, Boyd claimed he was unable to spread his legs due to his spinal injury, according to the report.

A body scan revealed a “large object” in his groin area, and a strip search revealed that Boyd had a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard stuffed in his rectum, the outlet said.
The Bodyguard is a .380-caliber gun that weighs less than a pound and is about 5 inches long, according to the manufacturer, which bills the $400 piece as “lightweight” and “easy to carry.”

It was unclear from the police report if the gun was loaded when it was lodged in his anus.
Boyd had previously been convicted of attempted murder, burglary and domestic battery, and was banned from carrying guns.
Cops also found two bags of weed “tucked next to Boyd’s scrotum,” the article said. Recreational marijuana remains illegal in Indiana.
The suspect was charged with an array of felony drug, gun and trafficking charges and was being held at Vanderburgh County Jail without bond.
The driver of the vehicle that was pulled over and another passenger were not charged.

Two alleged Islamists were arrested by German police on Tuesday because Federal intelligence agents say they had set a time and place for a terrorist attack to “kill as many as possible”.
A 15-year-old Afghan-German dual national and a 16-year-old Russian citizen Chechen were arrested on Tuesday in North Rhine-Westphalia and Brandenburg over an alleged plot to attack a Christmas market with either an incendiary device or a truck. Germany’s Die Welt cites intelligence service sources who claim the pair had discussed their plans and had agreed on a particular Christmas Market and a date in early December to launch the attack.
Tagesspiegel claims to have exclusively learnt that the target was the Cologne Christmas Market, close to where one of the two was arrested. The teenagers are reported to have been Islamic State sympathisers who shared their plans on Telegram and spoke of their desire to kill “as many as people”. As well as the “concrete” Christmas Market plan, they also discussed the possibility of striking a Synagogue, it was said.
Chechens have become an increasingly prominent part of the European terror scene recently, particularly in France which has the largest population of Chechen ‘refugees’ in Europe. School teacher Samuel Paty, who showed an image of the Islamic prophet Muhammad during a class on freedom of expression, was beheaded by a Chechen teen in 2020. This year, another Chechen migrant stabbed a teacher to death at a French school, with injuries to the educator’s neck and throat.
Many other Chechnyans have been arrested on terror charges or are entered onto terror watchlists in recent years.
The arrested Chechen teen in Germany this week was described in reports as an “extremely violent” individual with an interest in weapons and terrorist organisations.

Islamic State-linked Anis Amri, a Tunisian migrant who entered Europe on a migrant boat to escape a prison sentence for stealing a truck stole another truck in Germany, shooting its driver dead. He then used the stolen vehicle to plough through the city’s Christmas market, killing 13 people. The death toll may well have been higher, but the vehicle was stopped by its automatic brake.

While described as an accounting issue in the given articles, it looks like the greater issue is the accusation that Haslam incentivized senior managers to pursue short-term profits over a long-term strategy more desirable to B-H.
This is, BTW, one of the fun things about accounting “in industry” as opposed to public accounting — you get to make things happen in certain ways and then report the way they happened. Public accounting, by contrast, comes by after the battles have been fought and shoots the wounded.
As an example of this, if a company forecasts $41.8M in sales for a certain quarter, it is common for the company to charge-forward hell-for-leather on product shipments, particularly in the last month….and, when the number is hit, shut the shipping department down and send everyone home — even if there are a couple of business days left. Knowing Jimmy Haslam and his past “brushes” with the law, there is zero doubt in my mind he had them do exactly what they are being accused of doing.

A few months ago someone posted a “climate ice age is coming very soon video”.
