The second story is worth attention if readers have not seen it.

Deep State Desperation

No Elections Using Computers in California as State Officials Freeze Spending State Faces $68 Billion Deficit

According to Chriss Street CEO New California State, Former Treasurer Orange County, CA: “The State’s spending freeze means there will be no money in California to spend on multibillion dollar computer systems. Counties will have to use same day paper ballots with hand counting which cost a fraction of the complex machines to operate. The savings to the counties and state are in the tens of billions of dollars”.

Well, that’s certainly a game changer if it actually happens that way.

LUKE 1:46-56

46And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed; 49for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50And his mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation. 51He has shown strength with his arm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, 52he has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree; 53he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away. 54He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity for ever.” 56And Mary remained with her about three months, and returned to her home.

About this:

1.Gene Ho was Trump’s photographer during his 2016 campaign. His knowledge of the Secret Service amounts to SS having been present about half the time that he was around Trump. That’s not extensive knowledge and doesn’t seem to be insider knowledge.
2.How does he know there was no SS coverage when Hillary emerged from the building on 9/11/2020? I don’t think he was there.
3.How does he know what the SS does when someone employs a body double? (Body doubles that are used from afar, that is. Body doubles one-on-one, up close and personal, get outed. Kamala Harris tried it and failed miserably.) If they want it to look real, they would have to have the normal SS protection or people would be suspicious.

I would trust Dan Bongino’s word on SS protection over Gene Ho’s. Bongino was an actual Secret Service agent.

Regarding this article…
https://badlands.substack.com/p/vivek-desantis-and-trumps-master

The author states:

……it is my contention that Trump is working with Vivek in some capacity, and has been assisting him in playing the role that Trump played in 2016.

Me:
Vivek can’t be “playing the role that Trump played in 2016.” Trump wasn’t second fiddle to some other Repub candidate; he was the winner of the election. If the idea is that, like Trump, Vivek is stating uncomfortable truths, then that could be stated. But the two men are not in the same role.

Article:

…I am placing my chips on the fact…

Me:
It’s not a fact; it’s a theory.

Article:

…that Pence and Trump, and likely a lot more people, have been, and were orchestrating a carefully worked-out plan to win the hearts and minds of the people, globally, which included exposing the deep state assets, the perpetual flaccidity of our justice system, media, and the near complete facade of the geopolitical field for at least the past 80 years, since WWII.

Me:
It’s a theory that I disagree with. It not only means that Pence fell on his sword and ruined his political reputation with MAGA patriots, but that Trump planned the loss of the election “so the people could be shown.” It means that Pence is a MAGA patriot, a good guy, who likes Trump and is in league with him. It means that Trump and Pence subverted our election system and the proceedings on J6 in violation of their Constitutional duty. There is not an ounce of evidence to support this view. The paragraph above is not evidence; it is made-up supposition.

And it continues to say that every candidate is an actor who was put into place. They are “props.”

Article:

DeSantis, I still suspect is playing a role for Trump, and that roll includes the same one he is faux-playing for the deep state in their attempt to prop up Haley.

Me:
There is no evidence for this.

Article:

DeSantis is meant to look like the uninteresting, non-charismatic, let-the-wind-take-me candidate, while at the same time, seeming like a good next-best-thing to a lot of Trump supporters and Trump-hating republicans. DeSantis, I am arguing at this time, appears to be a double agent, working for Trump, while at the same time, seemingly working for the Deep State.

Me:
A telltale sign that a theory is not workable is that people are said to have sacrificed their careers and their reputations for whatever the cause is. I have yet to see this reported as true. According to the theory, there is no shortage of noble people who are willing to ruin whatever political capital they have built up over decades to enact a plan that does not allow the people to know about those noble actions. These paragons fall on their swords willingly. They are willing to let Trump have all the glory and the entire spotlight while their star crashes and burns in the eyes of the people.

Article:

… a righteous actor, like Trump, can’t and won’t change a legal system through contempt, vigilante methods or ‘bull in a china shop’ tactics.

Me:
No, instead this author is saying that Trump knowingly and willfully planned to lose an election, or at least a J6 remedy for the election, keeping himself out of the WH for four years, unleashing on the people and the country heretofore unexperienced evils that are destroying the country as we speak, while gambling not only that he would be around to run again in 2024, but that he would win that election, despite cheating, and would be able to fix all the harm that had been done. Anyone who lost their home or job or livelihood or even their life during those four years is collateral damage for the greater good, “the plan.” To which I say, no way.

So you would rather have Trump in office NOW, with the Deep State hamstringing him at every turn.

Followed by a Deep State President, Senate and Congress ==> FULL BLOWN COMMUNISM. Death of at LEAST 4 to 5 BILLION or more people and that followed by a slavery that makes the slavery of yesteryear look like a walk in the park.

If people DO NOT WAKE UP TO THE REALITY of what the Deep State Cabal actually plans AND FIGHT AGAINST IT NOW, then the Cabal WILL KILL the majority of the human race and WILL enslave the rest of the Human Race. The World Economic Forum and the Eugenicists have made that very very clear.

Now, would a Commander sacrifice some people to PREVENT THAT???

And no I am not pulling wild theories out of the blue. I am looking at all the information that has been revealed in the last three years plus the number of people who are FINALLY waking up.

para59r posted this a few days ago. Would anyone have even NOTICE this if the Deep State kept a strangle hold on information?

So you would rather have Trump in office NOW, with the Deep State hamstringing him at every turn.

That’s bizarre. I didn’t say that, and it’s not even the topic of this discussion. The point I was making is that the theory that that Substack author posits has no evidence to back it up. IMO, his reasoning is faulty and he twists facts to make them fit into his narrative. A lot of what he said isn’t even fact; it’s pure conjecture. (He does admit that it’s his current thinking.) I don’t have a very high opinion of his ability to think logically. For that reason, I have no desire to follow him or continue to read his material.

Followed by a Deep State President, Senate and Congress ==> FULL BLOWN COMMUNISM. Death of at LEAST 4 to 5 BILLION or more people and that followed by a slavery that makes the slavery of yesteryear look like a walk in the park.

I don’t know what has changed from 2020 until now. We are still facing all the dangers and evils that we were facing then, and it’s even worse. If Trump gets back into office, that will help, but there are no guarantees that he will get back into office. I certainly hope he does, but in 2020 he and his team had no way of knowing that that would be a certainty.

At times, presidents have to make hard decisions that would involve the inevitable deaths of some people. That is not evidence that Trump made himself lose in 2020.

And no I am not pulling wild theories out of the blue.

People are waking up. And so?

A major issue I see is that people take what you’ve said here — the fact that people are waking up with Trump out of office, and witnessing all the persecutions against him — and using that as evidence to support statements that this entire election season is part of a plan. Other candidates are willingly playing a role. DeSantis is a double agent, working for Trump and the Deep State.

No one asks or explains who handed them the script and said, “Learn your part.” No one explains what’s in it for people like him to make fools of themselves, destroy their base, destroy the good reputation they had built, and effectively end their political career while Trump gets all the positive attention and the glory. Who does that?

So DeSantis is willingly taking insult after insult from Trump, making himself look like a fool nationally and internationally, wearing boots that invite ridicule, appearing to be led around by whims of his wife, making Floridians turn against him, etc., for what? He is a husband and father and governor who has responsibilities, and he is destroying major parts of his life. And we’re to believe he is willingly doing this to further some plan?

It’s not how the real world works. That’s a major problem I have with so many of these theories. And it’s not a lack of imagination, as has been mentioned. I can imagine a lot of things, but common sense, simple reasoning and unemotional parsing, experience, discernment, and logic say that they’re not viable. I don’t have to entertain the idea that we might wake up one morning to see a multicolored sky with unicorns flying all around. That’s about how likely it is that DeSantis is immolating himself to elevate Trump.

So when these theories are presented with elements that IMO are too ridiculous and unlikely to be entertained, it taints the entire premise.

Gail Combs

“…I don’t know what has changed from 2020 until now. We are still facing all the dangers and evils that we were facing then, and it’s even worse….”

That is where you and I disagree. I think a lot has changed.

Most important the EVIL the Cabal is planning is now out in the open. You can not fight evil if you do not even KNOW it exists.

There have been MAJOR fights about voter fraud and some winning. You just do not hear about it. Also people are now aware that you have to take over the Precincts in order to control the Republican party.

The Cabal is being fought around the world. Putin and Saudi’s Prince MBS have had major wins. There is also all the protests in Europe and even that conference in the EU Parliament on Covid.

Russia, Russia, Russia has been PROVED to be a NASTY HOAX by the DemonRats and the FBI.

The Hunter Laptop has been PROVEN to be authentic AND again the FBI and 16 Intel Agencies to be OUT RIGHT LIARS.

Thanks to Elon Musk, DHS,CDC and the FBI have been SHOWN to engage in CENSORSHIP a crime against the First Amendment.

The DemonRat support for UNVETTED MASS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION has even Democrat Mayors up in arms.

The legacy media is hemorrhaging readers and trust in media is down the tubes.

Compared to 2013, a decade ago, I am at least seeing HOPE for the future because of the massive amount of constructive actions taken by ordinary citizens.

TheseTruths

“…I don’t know what has changed from 2020 until now. We are still facing all the dangers and evils that we were facing then, and it’s even worse….”

That is where you and I disagree. I think a lot has changed.

My comment about things having changed is in relation to the theories people are putting forth. I agree with you about those events. I just don’t think that they, in and of themselves, provide proof for the theories.

Carried forward from yesterday because of its immediacy:

Hello, everybody—

Yours Truly is in the ER again. This time it’s bad. I have a hernia on the right side of the groin at the intestine. They’ll have to operate. I made arrangements to have Solas taken care of. Please pray for me. I’m really scared.

Please alert The Q Tree. Thank you.

(PAVACA here)

[Marica, who brought it over:] Please Pray for CV!!

Hernias are not pleasant. Fortunately, an inguinal hernia [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inguinal_hernia ] has good odds of being fixable. [By contrast, I’ve been chasing fixes for an umbilical hernia for the better part of two years.] Several of our commenters have weighed-in with knowledge and experience to support a positive expectation.

That said, if a hernia puts you in the ER, it is no longer an academic exercise. CV needs immediate support and prayer until her crisis is resolved.

TheseTruths

🙏 for successful surgery and healing, as well as peace in the midst of the stress and angst.

Gail Combs

Hubby is on his second Hernia. His first was successfully repaired. He has had the second for a few years and at 80 they do not want to operate (fatty tissue not intestine) so he wears a hernia belt.

I am actually relieved to hear it is a hernia, a repairable problem, and not something a lot worse.

Prayers up for a successful and quick resolution.

singingsoul1

My son had a double hernia when he was born. They operated him when he was 2 month old . He never had a problem since. He only was 41/2 lb.

Valerie Curren

Almost the exact story w/ my son Josiah, except that he had the open heart at 2 months & 4 pounds & then the double inguinal hernia repair (it was Almost an emergency, for they didn’t want to do another operation so close to the heart surgery) a few months later. He’s had no hernia issues there since, though he did get his umbilical hernia repaired a number of years later…

Valerie Curren

Scott said it was your birthday on the 22nd. Hope you had a wonderful day 🎂

bakocarl

I’ve had 5 hernias repaired. Laparoscopic hernia repair is a piece of cake . . . it’s a skill, so make sure your surgeon has had lots of practice with it. Also, get a mesh installed to help prevent future reoccurrences.

HARVARD, MA — It has been a tumultuous week for Ivy League university presidents as they have faced harsh criticism for acts as simple as allowing their students to call for the genocide of the Jews. Most recently, Harvard President Claudine Gay is in even more hot water after reports surfaced that she plagiarized large sections of her Ph.D. thesis, borrowing entire sections from Mein Kampf.

This news comes shortly after UPenn President Liz Magill was forced to resign for paragliding into a school assembly while firing an AK-47 in the air.

“I would like to apologize to the students and faculty for naively plagiarizing Hitler’s astounding and courageous work without thinking that it could lead to Antisemitism,” said President Gay, “I promise to retract any use of Mein Kampf and have made an appointment to have my newly-inked swastika forehead tattoo removed.”

At publishing time, the board of Harvard University had expressed concern at how long it would take to find another president who is black and has the last name of “Gay.”

From OT:

Half of All U.S. Buick Dealerships Take GM Buyout Instead of Spending Millions Retooling to Meet EV Needs
December 21, 2023

SD: “This is somewhat of a predictably tragic outcome all things considered. I remember a previous conversation on these pages when GM moved massive investment into China to build their mid-size SUV brand, Encore.”

_____________

What this is, is massive gaslighting, or the rhetorical equivalent of a fun-house mirror 😂

.
.

SD: “Continuing the U.S. decline of the brand, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that approximately half of all Buick dealership in the U.S. have opted to take a buyout from GM, as opposed to spending millions in retooling, restructuring and retraining their staff to accommodate the EV influx.”

_____________

In all the Tesla coverage I see, comparing Tesla sales (which are outstanding) to the rest of the top ten sellers, I didn’t remember even seeing a Buick EV.

So I looked it up.

Apparently there isn’t one.

It’s not scheduled to be released until 2025.

So “approximately half of all Buick dealership in the U.S. have opted to take a buyout from GM” rather than sell a car that doesn’t even exist… BUT these dealers aren’t closing down and going out of business, as the gaslighting suggests:

While dealers who accept the buyout will no longer sell the Buick brand, they will be able to continue to sell other GM vehicles, like Chevrolet and GMC, which usually account for a higher share of sales.”

.
.

SD: “Most of the EV’s shoved onto the dealer lots sit idle without customers to purchase them.”

________

They should try putting EVs on their lots that people actually want to buy.

You know, like Teslas.

They can’t just put a crappy product on the market, and then when nobody buys their crappy product, claim that there is no demand for the product, when the truth is, there is no demand for a crappy version of the product.

Their competitor (Tesla) can’t make them fast enough to keep up with sales.

The Tesla model Y is the best selling car in the world.

Not the best selling EV in the world, the best selling *car*, in the entire world.

So tell me that gaslighting narrative about lack of demand again, slappy…

.
.

SD: “Overall new car prices are already ridiculous and the prices of the EV’s are substantially higher.”

___________

Except, well, you know… Teslas.

It would be hilarious, if it wasn’t so willfully blind.

Tesla is the 8,000 Lb. elephant in the room that the legacy automakers, the legacy auto presstitutes and the ideologically blindfolded refuse to see.

.
.

SD: “Along with higher entry prices, the insurance is higher,”

___________

Except for… wait for it… Teslas.

Tesla offers their own in-house insurance, and it’s cheaper than traditional auto insurance companies.

kalbokalbs

Me too. Be it a Tesla or any EV, no thanks.

scott467

“I’m just going to be honest here; if you GAVE me a Tesla, I would sell it. No thank you.”

_______

I would do the same thing, I have no interest in an electric car. I don’t have any desire for most new cars, they just don’t appeal to me.

But that’s not the point.

The point is that Tesla is making a car that a lot of people do like and want to buy. I can’t think of any reason why they shouldn’t have the freedom to spend their money however they choose, so if Tesla makes an electric car that is actually a good car and people actually want to buy it, who am I to say they shouldn’t?

It’s not for me, but then 95% of the cars made today don’t appeal to me, either.

The other point is that if Ford, GM and whoever else make a half-assed attempt at producing EVs, and they’re terrible, and/or they are overpriced, so people won’t buy it, that doesn’t mean there is no demand for EVs — clearly there is, or Tesla would not have the best selling car (the model Y) in the world.

It just means the legacy automakers are offering an EV product that is not in the same league as Tesla, in price or performance (or both), so the segment of the car market that is interested in an EV (not people like you or me) are choosing Tesla, not the overpriced and underperforming products from Big Auto.

Aubergine

The problem is, the success of Tesla is what is driving the crappy imitators. The truth is, Teslas are for rich people.

And I have a real problem with the batteries. The mining of the minerals by little African children is sickening.

scott467

“The problem is, the success of Tesla is what is driving the crappy imitators. The truth is, Teslas are for rich people.”

_________

They had to be expensive in the initial stages, before they achieved economy of scale.

Now they are ramping up the low cost models, which are going to destroy whatever hope legacy auto had of competing.

I think their target price is $25k for the next Tesla. I don’t remember if that is after gov’t incentives or before gov’t incentives.

Previously, the gov’t incentives (up to $7,500 if I remember correctly) were available as a tax deduction, so you had to come up with the purchase price and then claim the incentive by deducting it from your taxes at the end of the year. If you didn’t owe any taxes (or didn’t owe enough taxes) then you didn’t get the benefit. Some states added even more incentives, beyond federal gov’t incentives.

As of January 1, 2024 (if I remember correctly) the incentives will be immediate, so you take the incentive value off the price of the car at time of purchase. So everyone qualifies to get the benefit, and you don’t have to wait until tax time to claim it anymore.

If you can take $7,500 off a $25k Tesla, then you’re at $17,500 plus tax and title 😂

My last “new” car (new to me) cost $5000. And I was super excited to get it.

scott467

What year was that? I’ll look it up in the inflation tables and see what that $5,000 would be equal to, today.

cthulhu

My last new car was about $20,000 in 1994. I’m still driving it.

scott467

The best inflation calculator (as I understand it) is Shadowstats, but theirs is only available now by subscription only.

Theirs uses the old method of calculating inflation, before the gov’t changed the model to make inflation seem like less than it really is.

Using the newer models that understate inflation (wildly), $20,000 in 1994 is equivalent to:

$41,437
https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

$41,437
https://www.calculator.net/inflation-calculator.html?cstartingamount1=20%2C000&cinmonth1=13&cinyear1=1994&coutmonth1=11&coutyear1=2023&calctype=1&x=Calculate#uscpi

$42,004
https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm

$41,003
https://smartasset.com/investing/inflation-calculator#06pCbszTd7

I would guess the real number is more like $20k in 1994 is equal to $60k today, or maybe even $80k.

Maybe more.

Aubergine

Lol, I just bought it used a few months ago. It’s a 2005.

My point was, $17,500 is well out of my budget.

scott467

I hope it treats you well 👍🙂

I paid around $11k for my 1969 Corvette, drove it for 11 years, and sold it for $8k.

No repairs needed besides replacing the starter motor, which I did myself.

So I was able to drive a ’69 Corvette for 11 years for a cost of about $3k, or about $272/year… about $23/month… around 75¢ a day.

Best deal ever 😂

Some cars are like that. They almost gain value as you drive them.

Mine is a Mazda. I know people who have driven them for 300,000+ miles, so I think I got a good deal. Mine had about 110,000 miles on it when I bought it.

I love old cars, but I don’t have the necessary hand-strength to wrench on one.

If Tesla could manage to get their cars into people’s hands at $17,500 that would be about 14% lower than the cheapest car on the list.

Aubergine

The problem I really have with any electric vehicle is illustrated by my purchase of a used car for $5000.

If most cars are electric, purchasing a used one cheap will be too risky to contemplate. Why? Because of the batteries!

If you can’t afford a new one, and the batteries cost $15,000+ to replace, what would you do? People like me won’t have cars.

scott467

Hopefully most cars won’t be electric.

There are plenty of hurdles to overcome, and while I suspect most of them can be if enough money and engineering is thrown at them, it will take time.

Batteries are a key issue for a variety of reasons, including expense, the problems with obtaining components like cobalt (Tesla is working on a substitute), the ability to recycle, etc.

Tesla is working on solving those problems, and as Tesla ramps up production across all models, battery prices will go down.

‘Moore’s Law’ says that the number of transistors on an integrated circuit doubles every two years.

There is a similar ‘law’, but related to manufacturing, such that costs go down as the units produced goes up.

Eventually, the batteries should be cheap, safe, more efficient, easy to make, easy to swap, easy to recycle, and inexpensive.

It just takes time, money and sufficient incentive to solve the problems in order to get there.

In the meantime, gas cars should always be around.

Even if electric eventually becomes majority, there should always be use cases where an internal combustion engine car is the better solution.

Like revolvers.

They have largely been displaced by semi-auto pistols, which do certain things better. They hold more ammo, and you can reload them faster, for example.

But they still make revolvers, and millions of people still buy them, because they do certain things better than semi-autos.

Like always going BANG when you pull the trigger 😁

If / when reliability is the primary and overriding concern, if it absotutely posilutely has to go BANG when you pull the trigger, revolver still beats pistol.

A revolver can be fired from concealment (e.g., from inside a jacket pocket), whereas that could be a problem with a semi-auto pistol.

As long as there are use cases, things that revolvers do better than pistols, I don’t expect revolvers to stop being made.

Same with internal combustion engines in cars.

Aubergine

Do I carry a semi-auto, or a revolver? You get three guesses, and the first two don’t count!

Aubergine

If you purchase an old junker for $3000, you can fix most things on it for at most a few hundred dollars. But if you have to purchase an older EV, and the batteries die, you have to spend tens of thousands. See the problem? Poor people won’t have cars at all.

scott467

Yep, I see the problem and you are correct, that problem will need to be solved.

One solution is for gas powered cars to never stop being made.

I have heard that in Cuba, they are still driving American cars from the 1950s, because they had to keep them running, and they were simple enough to work on.

I don’t think gas powered cars are going away soon, or hopefully ever 👍

Aubergine

Photos from Cuba are fantastic, because of all the old cars still on the road.

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

$25K for a new car is a steal – and I will tell you right now – if everybody grabs one, it will put America’s coal miners back to work in a flash, because Teslas are basically coal-powered vehicles. THEN they ramp up nuclear quickly, because that’s needed.

“In 2020, Tesla signed an agreement with Piedmont Lithium, a company developing a lithium project in North Carolina.
The automaker agreed to buy about one-third of Piedmont’s planned 160,000 tonnes of annual spodumene lithium production for at least five years.”

And he is building his own refinery in America:

Elon Musk and Tesla break ground on massive Texas lithium refinery

Tesla secures new cobalt deal as it phases out the controversial mineral
by Fred Lambert
Jun 16 2020

“Tesla has secured a new cobalt supply deal with mining giant Glencore as it phases out the controversial battery material.
Cobalt is a controversial mineral due to most of it coming from mining operations in Congo, a place that has historically been affected by conflict and corruption, which has resulted in child labor in some mining operations.

Most tech and auto companies using cobalt have taken steps to avoid sourcing from those operations, but it’s a hard thing to track since it changes hands several times before reaching a battery cell.

Tesla is looking to reduce the amount of cobalt needed in its battery cells, but with the massive production ramp-up, it is expected to still need the large volumes of the mineral going forward.”

Tesla doubles down on ethical sourcing with cobalt mining risk analysis
By William Johnson
April 25, 2023

“Tesla has published a new report on its efforts to make its cobalt supply chain significantly more ethical, safe, and secure.
By far, cobalt is the most difficult to acquire mineral required to make a battery for an electric vehicle.

The material often requires significant chemical processing to remove it from the ground; it is usually found in rock formations that can release toxic gases when mined, and to make things worse, the primary sources of the material are some of the poorest countries on Earth. Now, Tesla has published an analysis as part of its 2022 Impact Report, detailing its efforts to make the mining process more ethical and safe.”

Tesla joins Fair Cobalt Alliance in support of moral mining efforts
By Joey Klender
September 8, 2020

“Tesla has joined the Fair Cobalt Alliance, a group dedicated to the development of fair cobalt by ensuring responsible mining practices and challenging investments into mine improvements. The organization also aims to minimize the environmental impact of cobalt mining and create decent working conditions for those who work at a mine.

FCA works to keep children from working within any cobalt mine as well, as the group establishes control and monitoring mechanisms to ensure fair labor that does not include underage workers.

Tesla is one of ten total members of the Fair Cobalt Alliance, joining Glencore, the company’s cobalt provider.”

Tesla explains its approach to sourcing lithium, nickel, and cobalt directly from mines in impressive detail
By Fred Lambert
May 9 2022

“Tesla released interesting and rare details about its approach to sourcing lithium, nickel, and cobalt directly from mines instead of through its cell suppliers. This approach is going to be critical as companies fight to secure those minerals for battery production to support electric vehicle growth.

While Tesla sources the vast majority of its battery cells from suppliers, it actually sources a large part of the materials used to build those batteries directly from mines.

This approach enables Tesla to have direct relationships with miners of critical minerals and helps secure supply while allowing the company to monitor quality closely and ensure responsible environmental and social sourcing.

Tesla explained in its latest Impact Report:

While cobalt, nickel, and lithium go through multiple processing steps by different companies, some of the more important environmental and social risks in this supply chain are present at mine sites. Direct sourcing from mining companies allows Tesla to engage directly in local contexts instead of having to rely on multiple midstream companies that typically sit between EV makers and mining. It also enables more transparent and traceable supply chains and better environmental and social data.

Tesla even released some very rare and interesting details about the effort.

The automaker says that it had directly sourced over 95% of the lithium hydroxide, 50% of the cobalt, and more than 30% of the nickel used in its high-energy density cells (NCA and NCM) in 2021. The rest came from deals between the battery cell manufacturers and their own material suppliers.

As we previously reported, Tesla also released a list of the nine mining companies that are supplying those minerals.

Another, less discussed aspect of the company’s Impact Report is that it makes it clear how aware Tesla is that mining and its environmental and social impact are going to become more significant challenges for EV adoption in the future.

The automaker wrote:

Cobalt, lithium and nickel are also “minerals” – in that they are raw materials that are produced through different methods of mining around the world, often concentrated in countries that face socio-economic and environmental challenges. As known global reserves are depleted, these minerals are becoming increasingly scarce, and companies look to access resources in more remote and challenging locations to meet global demand.

Cobalt, lithium and nickel are also classified as critical minerals by the United States, European Union and Canadian governments because they are essential in enabling a transition away from fossil fuels to a low-carbon economy. As a result, the impact of mining activity on the environment and local communities lends itself to greater environmental and social scrutiny from civil society, policymakers and investors.

In response, Tesla has joined the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA), and the company’s direct-sourcing approach also helps ensure the implementation of those standards.”

That’s interesting about the Buicks. I wonder if the rebellion against EVs at Buick dealerships is about not taking “previously owned” EVs of other brands. A lot of car dealerships take other brands on trade-ins, and those dealerships might not even want used EVs.

scott467

“I wonder if the rebellion against EVs at Buick dealerships is about not taking “previously owned” EVs of other brands. A lot of car dealerships take other brands on trade-ins, and those dealerships might not even want used EVs.”

___________

Good point.

Easy evaluation.

I’m sure all of the dealerships have access to the most up-to-date used car sales databases possible (they better), so they know how much trade-in allowance they can give for any particular car, based on how much profit they expect to make when they flip it.

So in a free market, if the dealerships were free to do so, they could just announce a simple policy, that they only accept certain EV models for trade in, and then publish a list of EVs that support the dealership’s used car resale profit-model.

I expect that exact conversation took place at dealerships all over the country.

You see the obvious problem?

I haven’t thought this through until just now, but I see at least two big problems.

First, the only EVs they would be able to take on trade-in are the cars they can actually resell for a profit.

And the used EVs that will actually sell are Teslas. If there is so little demand for the new EVs made by legacy auto, who is going to buy any of the used ones?

Problem #2, how is it going to look, if the GM dealership won’t take used GM EVs on trade-in (because they can’t resell them), but they will take trade-ins from GM’s competitor, Tesla?

How is GM going to respond to that?

I don’t think GM is going to allow that particular policy at any of their GM dealerships 😂

So what’s the dealership’s best option?

In this case, the option chosen by many GM dealerships was to stop the bleeding and stop the insanity. They decided not to spend at least $300,000 to upgrade their facilities and install electric chargers for GM electric cars that nobody wants to buy anyway.

It is also an expression of ZERO CONFIDENCE that GM is going to get their act together and make EVs that anyone wants to buy, anytime soon.

Who can blame dealerships for recognizing the obvious?

The legacy automakers are dinosaurs. They shouldn’t be, they don’t need to be, but they have effectively had a monopoly for decades. They have been the biggest fish in the pond for so long, that they got fat and lazy and sloppy.

Then along came Tesla, and Tesla is disrupting everything and exposing all of their weaknesses.

Now there is real competition, from an outsider, and Big Auto can’t hack it. They bent the knee to the weaponized criminal Left union leadership, so their labor costs are going way up, just when they need to be cutting costs to try to be competitive with Tesla.

And they’re not going to make it.

Telsa has way too big of a lead at this point.

It’s not just a matter of money, if it was, Big Auto would find a way to throw enough money at the problem to win.

It’s culture. And bureaucracy.

Big Auto has been doing things the way they do them for decades. The big 3 are like the Titanic, the Olympic and the Britannic. They are leviathans. They can’t turn on a dime, it takes them miles to do a U-turn.

Tesla is like a Ferrari. It can run circles around the leviathans all day long, at least in Tesla’s chosen specialty, which is EVs.

So the logical answer is for Big Auto to abandon EVs, because they can’t do it.

But they can’t do that either, because they’re in bed with Big Daddy Gov’t, and Big Daddy Government’s newest scheme to drive totalitarian policy in everything is the new state religion of Globull Warming, so Big Auto is being compelled by Big Daddy to do something (make EVs) which Big Auto simply cannot do, at least not competitively.

Worse, if Big Auto abandons the EV market (which they pretty much have to, if they want to survive), that leaves Tesla with a monopoly, which means Tesla will continue to achieve efficiencies of scale that drive their costs down, making Teslas ever cheaper.

At some point, the price of Teslas will get so low that new car buyers will not be able to justify paying double (or triple) for a Big Auto car.

So Big Auto is in a bad spot, which everyone who has been watching Tesla has been warning about for years, and now here we are.

Tesla is not slowing down, they’re accelerating, they are just now at the beginning of the exponential ‘S’ curve.

While Big Auto is mired in a morass of politics, bureaucracy, wildly overpaid union labor and decades old systems and facilities and ways of doing things.

My favorite car in the world is a Chevy. I grew up in a GM family. My Dad was an engineer for GM. I have never owned a Ford or a Dodge or a Chrysler.

My first car was an 8 or 9 year old Toyota Celica. My Dad wasn’t happy about it, but he understood that there was nothing that old (and therefore in my price range) made by GM that would be anything but a problem.

My next car was a 1983 Supra.

My 3rd car was a 1969 Corvette, T-top coupe, red-orange (or orange-ish red) with tan interior, 350/350 4-spd, which I drove for 11 years. Best looking, best sounding, best performance and most fun car I’ve ever had — nothing else even comes close 😁

If it wasn’t for 1963-1967 Corvettes (my favorite, since the day my Dad pulled in our driveway with one, when I was little), another 1969 Corvette would be at the top of my car wish list.

While there is a lot of talk of 5th Generation Warfare and the ‘Devolution Theory’

Side note: Devolution is REAL but not what Jon Harold implies. It was developed during the Cold War and is a “In case of Major attack on Washington DC – Break Glass” contingency plan. After the election Trump made a lot of moves (EOs & PEADs) dealing with Devolution so I see it as sort of a last ditch plan.

One thing I do not see is much mention of GAME THEORY.

Game Theory 101 for Dummies like Me
It is not something I know much about. However Burning Bright mentions the infinite player, who is the one with TRUTH/REALITY on their side as the eventual winner.

Cuppa Covfefe

My father had a book entitled “Read ‘Em And Weep”… It might have been songs, or stories, or both… He also had a book of political cartoons going back to the early 1800s… How I wish I had them now.

What is happening today isn’t new. We just haven’t been taught about it, or our families have forgotten.

My son did a paper on Abraham Lincoln, and what the press and the DEMONRATS did to him was terrible…

Gail Combs

Among other things they assassinated him. Although some think the Brits may have had a hand in that.

The Hidden Story Behind Lincoln’s Assassination

President Johnson issued a proclamation saying“It appears from evidence in the Bureau of Military Justice that the … murder of … Abraham Lincoln … [was] incited, concerted, and procured by and between Jefferson Davis, late of Richmond, Va., and Jacob Thompson, Clement C. Clay, [Nathaniel] Beverly Tucker, George N. Sanders, William C. Cleary, and other rebels and traitors against the government of the United States harbored in Canada.”…

Remember that at that time Canada was part of Britain.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

Finally got around to reading that Ashli article shared here the other day. This pic has Ashli’s companion w/ that potential satanic hand symbol, fwiw…

comment image

https://nypost.com/2021/01/14/ashli-babbitt-husband-were-reportedly-in-a-throuple/

Aubergine

That symbol is the shaka, it means “hang loose,” among other things. I lived in Hawaii; it’s common:

https://www.hawaiianairlines.com/hawaii-stories/culture/origin-of-the-shaka

Like many things (rainbows, the color purple), I guess symbols can be co-opted. But the satan-worshippers can kiss my ass. I love rainbows, purple, and shakas.

Valerie Curren

I think that’s the one Ashli did w/ the thumb & pinky but the other woman had that “horns” hand position w/ pointer & pinky fingers.

Aubergine

Yeah, I get it. But I’ve also seen too many tourists trying hard to fit in, but not knowing how to do it.

Cuppa Covfefe

The Gaybow only has SIX (as in “the number of man”) colors. The true rainbow has seven (OK, OK, before anyone whines, it has a multitude of colors, but SEVEN bands, as it were; seven being the number of perfection, GOD)….

Purple can mean royalty; it also is a favored color of gays. Many years in the SF Gay Area, the music world, and time at the SFCM showed me that. Not to mention all the freaks, etc., in the LA world, music and otherwise…..

The one on the left is wearing an “Italian Horn” necklace, which, in some circles is a Satanic sign, in others is a sexual (read:promiscuous) sign…

Way, Way, WAAAAYYYYY back (3²+2³) said that there would (necessarily) be a lot of “noise” and misdirection going about. There still is, and it still is necessary. Discernment is paramount, and we all need to be sure we don’t spout foolishness, absurdities, or absolute untruths. Then again, echoing noise might also be a strategy…

(runs for my Dolby noise reduction equipment, and references to find out what the heck Dolby Atmos is and, if it’s worth it, where am I going to get the money to buy it 😆 )(or, with my budget at the new year where everything comes due, 😭 😫 🙃 )…

Aubergine

Lol.

Aubergine

I think this “throuple” thing is way more common than people think.

I had an acquaintance not too many years back who had a live-in guy in her marriage. Husband was totally gay, but she stayed married to him. I think the live-in swung both ways.

I knew another woman, kind of unattractive and very insecure, who told me she was considering moving this other woman into her house to keep her husband happy. I’m sure you can imagine my response!

People do some crazy shit to hold on to relationships.

Valerie Curren

That’s shades of Rachael & Leah giving their maids to Jacob to have more kids by him in that interminable rivalry–yuck!

Aubergine

Yeah, it’s gross.

And I think more along the lines of Sarah and Abraham. It resulted in Ishmael, the progenitor of the Arabs, and the resulting blood feud between those descendants, and the descendants of Isaac.

Look where that has gotten us.

First, that hand posture is one that surfers have used for decades. IIRC it means ‘happy day to you’ or some such upbeat greeting.

Second, of what possible purpose do statements about Ashli’s love life serve?

Is the Post suggesting that her sex life caused her to be murdered by a Capitol cop/thug?

Is the Post malicious or just indifferent to the emotional damage such publicity could cause to Ashli’s widower?

To put it bluntly, is the oldest newspaper in the USA now a tabloid rag?

If so, that’s sad.

Valerie Curren

So another thing on the CO SC fall out.

Bad Lands lays out that just putting Trumps name on the ballot will not work as it will legally not be counted and the vote will be trashed according to new laws put in prior to the decision to take Trump off the ballot.

Then Bad Lands says the State Republican Party will just move to a caucus system and side step the SC’s decision that way, though it will be an uphill fight to get approved by the National RNC.

Okay, but what is the mechanism for people to register their vote to be recognized if the state is going to toss it, or is the caucus system to be emplaced just going to rule willy nilly?

Maybe there is something there I don’t understand….

Please

More of the Lawfare “ask forgiveness instead of permission’ strategy that has been pretty successful so far. Just look at the knowingly illegal activities that occurred during the 2020 election that are still being disputed in court. And we got 4 years of SCROTUS

The evils know that they can break the law and make us stop them, in court, which takes years and resources and by then the damage has been done.

Even the disease give tinnitus!!!

Aubergine

Well, it’s a neuro-toxin, and tinnitus is a neurological disorder, so it does make sense.

Cuppa Covfefe

Tinnitus is the brain’s response to an inner- or middle-ear problem…

Likely in this case is that the hair cells in the cochlea are attacked in an auto-immune response triggered by the clot shot.

There have been attempts to re-grow these hair cells, some involving stem cell and/or genetic therapy (IIRC, Anthony Watts of WUWT was looking at that… ). What REALLY grinds my grits is the authors of almost ALL of these papers are from RED China… DO WE DO ANY OF OUR OWN RESEARCH ANYMORE????? 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡

(I have a special interest in this, as my son spent the last 20 years going deaf, with progressively stronger hearing aids, giving less and less help, finally ending up with Coclear Implants which are serving him well, but could be a great deal better if even a fraction of the money spent on COVID, AIDS, Ukraine, and other medical black holes were spent on it… As an example, the common “hearing test” only measures fifths and octaves, usually only eight or so different tones… the healthy ear can distinguish between tens of thousands… 😡 I could go on for hours. Or even more, being conservatory-trained, with perfect pitch, synaesthesia, and most of my life performing and enjoying music, a world partially closed off to him 🙁 Today’s CPUs, say, those made at TSMC, use a 2-nanometer process (or up to around 5 nm). Hearing aids, and processors for CIs are still at the 130 or so nm stage, about five-ten years behind… This paper ( https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0141933122001569 ) says they are using a 180nm process… still, a looong way back….

Forgive me, but I’ve hated the lies of Big Pharma and Big Med for a long, long time….. and the money that’s being pissed away in Ukraine and elsewhere could be MUCH better used helping improve people’s lives…

Here’s the fellow I was thinking of: he comes over here every so often, but is a professor at University of Kansas, and a pioneer in gene therapy research on hearing issues:
Hinrich Staecker, MD, PhD, Professor, Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
https://bioengr.ku.edu/people/hinrich-staecker

Hinrich Staecker, MD, PhD completed medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine with distinction in Otology Research. After completing his residency in otolaryngology at Montefiore Medical Center, he went on to a fellowship in Otology and Neurotology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Harvard Medical School. Currently, he is the David and Mary Zamierowsky Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. His clinical interests include surgery of the ear and skull base, cochlear implantation and age-related disorders of hearing and balance. Dr. Staecker is a member of the Collegium Oto-Rhino-Laryngologicum, a fellow of the Triological Society and a member of the American Otological Society. His research work focuses on drug delivery to the inner ear. He was instrumental in the development of the first clinical trial of human inner ear gene therapy and is currently the principal investigator in numerous clinical trials focusing on the treatment of hearing loss and tinnitus.

There are also genetic treatments for some eye problems (I was thinking Kerns-Sayre, but I’m not sure)… again, there could be a lot of good things done if the money were there… those of us with arthritis, etc. would love it… yet another auto-immune disease, along with hayfever, et. al. …..

I totally agree that more of our money should be spent on our lives, as opposed to senseless foreign wars.

TradeBait2

I am the not so proud recipient of same.

First it was a swollen left ear canal that made it difficult to hear much of the time for the first year after Wuhan. About 6 months after contracting Delta I developed a low hissing tinnitus that has remained in the same ear. I hear normally in both ears, just have the hissing sound in the left. No other symptoms and no other health concerns at all.

Aubergine

I’m sorry, that sucks.

My family Loves this! We like adding garlic salt in addition to garlic fresh or from a jar. Basically whatever kind of seasoning profile is appealing to your taste buds can work!

By the way, on several occasions I have made a similar crock pot recipe to this original one, only as a form of “Beef Burgundy”. For that one I usually start with a can or two of mushrooms (or fresh ones if available) using the liquid to replace some of the water. The meat is some type of beef (or occasionally venison) roast that gets an entire packet of French Onion Soup Mix sprinkled on it. Then a can of Cream of Mushroom Soup and a Soup Can of Burgundy or another red wine (I’ve made this recipe with chicken and white wine too) with a second soup can of liquid, starting with mushroom “juice” and completed with the wine. Depending on what’s available in the house I may add fresh onions, garlic, and/or celery to the pot too and some pepper or other seasonings to taste.

This dinner is always a Huge Hit with the entire family and we usually serve it over mashed potatoes, though it also goes well over noodles or rice presumably. The gravy is super flavorful and the meat falls off the bones to the degree that it rarely needs cutting. It’s so easy to make and likely time & energy friendly when cooked in the crock pot rather than a conventional oven.

Well I just finished slow cooking goat soup.

2 lbs of meat with bone in cut in 1″-2″ pieces, marinate for 3 days in wine and papaya to tenderize.
2 large red onions
4 stalks celery
spices

Dump in pot and slow cook for 6 hours or so.

Hubby and I had some for lunch. I plan to add barley and bok choy later.

Gail Combs

To bad I can not ship you some of my chicken broth.😎

For chicken thighs, I stick them in a pyrex casserole, coat them with spices, add about a 1/4 cup of wine, cover and cook @ 325 for about an hour to an hour and 1/2. You can add chopped veggies like onion, celery, mushrooms or even potatoes.

Since the heat is low and the cover is on you can ‘over cook’ and it just makes it fall apart delicious.

That stuff has been around here for a couple of months. Grandson was taken to the pediatrician with the same symptoms. After tests it was not flu – viral related was the determination. He is fine now, but it went on for several weeks.

The rest of us had what was like a bad cold, but was not overtaxing. Supplements, vitamins and rest. A cough hung around for a couple of weeks, but nothing deep in the lungs.

HALLE, DUCHY OF MADEBURG — A band of rowdy concert-goers took to heckling Baroque master George Frederich Handel and his orchestra at the group’s reunion tour over the weekend.

“PLAY HALLELUJAH CHORUS!” shouted one audience member as Handel began conducting his 12 Concerti Grossi, Opus 6. “GET TO ‘FOR THE LORD GOD OMNIPOTENT REIGNETH!’ WOOOOOOOOOO!”

The composer was seen sighing and taking a moment to breathe deeply while leading his musicians during Water Music Suites as fans shouted more requests for him to play from his smash hit Messiah.

“I put a lot of thought into the set list for this tour,” Handel told reporters. “We haven’t been together in 35 years. I thought our die-hard fans would love a few of the other classics but NO. It’s always ‘Play Messiah!’. I wrote like, 150 other works, you know.”

Handel finally placated fans at the end of the set by conducting a few selected pieces from his Messiah and ended the night with a rousing cover of Bach’s beloved Air On A G String.

I love chili verde. This is a good recipe using a crock pot and chicken thighs. Serve with rice and beans and some corn tortillas, and it’s like eating at a Mexican restaurant. Or you can just serve it like chili, in a bowl.

The recipe calls for removing the chicken from the pot to shred it, but I don’t. I just shred it into the sauce in the crock pot.

Slow Cooker Green Chile Chicken
Ingredients

  • 1 medium yellow onion, peeled and finely diced
  • 1 medium to large green bell pepper, seeded and diced small
  • 1 medium to large jalapeño, seeded and diced very small
  • 3 to 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons chili powder, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste if desired
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more to taste if desired
  • one 4-ounce can green chiles (do not drain)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 pound boneless skinless chicken
  • 1 1/2 cup salsa verde (I used jarred stuff)
  • Juice of 1 large lime, or to taste
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro, plus more for garnishing
  1. To a large 6 to 7-quart slow cooker, add the onion, green bell pepper, jalapeno, garlic, cumin, chili powder, canned green chiles, evenly drizzle with oil, and stir to coat evenly and combine.
  2. Place the chicken on top, evenly spaced.
  3. Evenly drizzle the salsa over the top, cover with the lid, and cook on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, or on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, or until the chicken is done. Tip – When it’s done, it will shred extremely easily with two forks.
  4. Remove the chicken from the slow cooker, place it on a cutting board, and shred with two forks. Tips – If for some reason there looks like a ton of cooking liquid and juices in your slow cooker and you don’t want your final dish as juicy, remove the juices, 1/2 cup at a time, or as desired. This isn’t likely necessary and we love the juiciness of the final dish and I keep all the juices in the bottom of the slow cooker, but it’s up to you. On the contrary, if it doesn’t look like there’s enough juices or liquid, add additional salsa verde 1/2 cup at a time, as desired.
  5. Add the shredded chicken back into the slow cooker, drizzle with lime juice, sprinkle with cilantro, and stir to combine.
  6. Taste the chicken for seasoning balance, and if desired, add additional salt, pepper, cumin, chili powder, or a pinch of cayenne for those who want it spicy.

Don’t know if this is being reported widely, however, Thursday, Federal Judge, Irene Berger, of the Southern District of West Virginia, has DISMISSED the lawsuit filed by John Anthony Castro to keep President Trump off the West Virginia ballot in 2024.
The judge found that Castro could not demonstrate “standing”. Castro had described himself as a candidate for president and said Trump’s presence on the ballot would harm his chances. U.S. District Judge Irene Berger found that the evidence submitted removes “any doubt that Mr. Castro’s purported ‘campaign’ exists as a vehicle for pursuing litigation, not votes.”

Supreme Court rejects Jack Smith’s request for justices to quickly hear Trump immunity dispute
(Citizen Free Press linked to CNN. They were probably first to get the story out.)

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a request by special counsel Jack Smith to fast-track arguments on whether Donald Trump has any immunity from federal prosecution for alleged crimes he committed while in office – a move that will likely delay his trial.

The court did not explain its reasoning and there were no noted dissents.

The court’s decision is a major blow to Smith, who made an extraordinary gamble when he asked the justices to take the rare step of skipping a federal appeals court and quickly deciding a fundamental issue in his election subversion criminal case against Trump.

Both sides will still have the option of appealing an eventual ruling by the DC Circuit Court of Appeals up to the high court, but the court’s move is a major victory for Trump, whose strategy of delay in the criminal case included mounting a protracted fight over the immunity question, which must be settled before his case goes to trial.

An expedited review of the issue is already underway at the DC Circuit, which has scheduled oral arguments for January 9. The election subversion trial is currently set to begin in March…

pgroup2

I called this one the instant I heard about Thug appealing over a ruling that he won.

They wait three years to bring charges – then all of a sudden it’s the most urgent thing in the world. Even SCOTUS could smell that one.

now half of Ford dealers say they won’t sell evs
FTA
Ford said on Thursday that half of all 1,550 Ford dealers chose to sell electric vehicles in 2024—down from two-thirds that said this time last year that they would opt in to sell EVs for 2023.

The other half of Ford dealers will sell—and service—ICE and hybrid models. “EV adoption rates vary across the country, and we believe our dealers know their market best,” Ford spokesman Martin Günsberg told the Detroit Free Press.

The slack buy-in from Ford dealerships comes even after Ford relaxed its requirements for dealers in the EV dealer program last January that mandated fewer L2 chargers and extended installation deadlines. Certified Ford EV dealers were once required to spend $500,000 for a single public DC fast charger, or $1 million if they wanted to be in the Elite tier of EV dealers. The extra $500,000 was for another fast charger and demo units, among other things. But the high price tag caused Ford dealers to balk.

During the early years of the GWBush presidency I hadn’t paid much attention to his dog, Barney. This is an amusing story of how Barney came to be the star of a couple of videos.

Barney Cam: The Making Of The Original White House Christmas Videos

By Jimmy Orr

“The original White House Christmas videos weren’t politicized. The first one was created to show off the Christmas decorations in the White House because public tours were closed because of 9/11. The second one was created so Mrs. Bush could play the video for sick children at the Children’s National Hospital.”

“Mr. Orr, this is the White House operator.”

As a White House spokesman, I received phone calls like this all the time. But this was the first time the president’s secretary had ordered me to report to the Oval Office immediately. Before 7 a.m. on a Saturday.

It was December 2003. Iraq was all over the news. We were closing in on the capture of Saddam Hussein. But — and the nation should be thankful — this wasn’t my domain.

President George W. Bush had another reason for calling for me now.

Barney Cam.

How It Happened

Whenever I’m asked to speak about my tenure in the White House, the conversation always shifts to Barney, the Scottish terrier whom the president regarded as the son he never had.

And back in the early 2000s, he became one of the earliest Internet sensations.

In 2002, the White House was still closed to the public after the attacks of Sept. 11. I ran the White House website, and we wanted to use the Internet to better connect with citizens.

Our first attempt to bring people in to the White House — virtually — was a big hit. Millions of viewers went to our site to see President Bush give a personal video tour of the Oval Office.

During a brainstorming session, my deputy, Jane Cook, mentioned that the theme for the White House Christmas was “All Creatures Great and Small” — a tribute to presidential pets.

People liked our videos. People loved Barney. Why not strap a video camera to the first dog’s head, chase him through the White House so viewers can see the Christmas decorations from his vantage point, and stream it over the Internet?

I decided to pitch the idea at the morning communications meeting in the West Wing, where a couple of dozen communication staffers gather to plan the day.

When Dan Bartlett, counselor to the president, asked me what was on my agenda, I swallowed hard and then said, “As you know, Dan, White House tours are still closed due to terrorist concerns. And the theme for this year’s Christmas at the White House is ‘All Creatures Great and Small.’

“So it’s only logical that we have a Barney Cam, Dan, which is where we strap a video camera on Barney’s head and have him run through the White House looking at decorations while Christmas music is playing in the background.”

I smiled.

Dan looked at me as though I’d grown another head.

After about 10 seconds of dead silence, Press Secretary Ari Fleischer chimed in: “That. Is. Awesome.”

His validation was all it took.

“Brilliant!”

“Good thinking.”

“Great idea.”

There was one problem. I had fully expected to be turned down. What I had was an idea, not a plan.

My friend Noelia Rodriguez, who was First Lady Laura Bush’s press secretary, called me 30 minutes later.

“Mrs. Bush loves Barney Cam,” she said. “She’s going to show the video at the children’s hospital instead of reading a Christmas book for the kids.”

“Whoa, Noelia!” I said, beginning to feel panicky. “This is just a theory!”

She told me to turn on CNN — now.

The first lady was there. Live. Talking about the holiday decorations at the White House. Then she mentioned that she would be introducing a cute video starring her dog Barney at the hospital in two weeks.

“Get it together,” Noelia said.

The Plan

We scrambled.

We were able to secure a lipstick-size camera to attach to Barney’s collar. But Barney didn’t wear a dog collar. He didn’t need to. Some dogs have microchips. Barney had the Secret Service.

When we put a collar on Barney, he protested by lying down. Then he started howling, loudly.

This would make a pretty lousy holiday video.

The rest of the story…
A colleague reassured me: “Don’t worry about it. Barney will get used to it. He’ll tire after a while, and then we’ll start shooting.”
Dale Haney — the White House groundskeeper and caretaker of presidential pets since King Timahoe, President Nixon’s Irish setter — stopped by a little later and offered a warning.
“The president loves Barney like a son,” Haney said. “He hears Barney howling like that, he’s gonna think you’re torturing him.”
The last thing I needed was for the leader of the free world to think I was torturing his dog. We removed the collar.
Instead, we just had a couple of people chase Barney around the White House on their knees with a video camera to get the right perspective. That included going out in the snow. Numerous times. I would have done it, of course, but I was the director.
‘I can’t believe we’re airing this’
The video was just Barney running through the White House chasing a big red ornament and stopping in all the major rooms to look up at the decorations. The soundtrack was Christmas music.
Laura Bush unveiled the video at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington. All three major news networks carried the entire 4½-minute video live.
At about the four-minute mark on CNN, the newscaster said, “I can’t believe we’re airing this.” I had to nod in agreement.
We put the video on the White House website, and the traffic was so huge it brought the site down briefly. That week, the video was downloaded 600,000 times. This was in 2002. Pre-YouTube. And pre-mass broadband. If you wanted to watch the video, you had to have patience.
The Sequel
In fall 2003, White House colleagues began coming to me, asking what we would do for a Barney Cam encore. We knew we had to do a sequel and had already named it. “Barney Cam II: Barney Reloaded.”
One problem. We had no plot. But just as in Hollywood, that was inconsequential.
Eventually my friend Bob DeServi (another White House communications staffer) and I came up with one. The New York Times noted: “The plot of the video is more complex than last year’s video, which had no plot.” It was a cliffhanger, actually. Barney was ordered by Chief of Staff Andrew Card to put up the holiday decorations, but Barney preferred to play with his ball.
This year, everyone wanted a part. After the previous success of Barney Cam, as well as the White House video tours, there was great demand to appear in the video. I remember talking to Bartlett, telling him that, to make the sequel complete, we really needed the president.
“The president has a lot on his plate,” Bartlett said. “Iraq, Saddam Hussein, the economy. I’m not going to ask him.”
Mr. President
Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m., I was awakened by the phone call.
“Whatever I did, I’m sorry,” I said.
Ashley Estes, the president’s secretary, said: “No, it’s fine. The president needs you to come in right away.”
I said, “Why?”
The president wants to film “Barney Cam II.”
I was rushed to the South Lawn upon my arrival at the White House. Barney was in position. The president and his personal assistant, Blake Gottesman, were walking out to the South Lawn.
Blake came up to me and said, “Jimmy, would you like to brief the president?”
I had always thought that if this were to happen, the topic would be a little more glamorous. Maybe like national security. But I’d take this.
“Mr. President, as you know, today we are filming ‘Barney Cam II: Barney Reloaded.’ Mr. President, here’s your motivation.
“Barney has been ordered by the White House chief of staff to put up the holiday decorations, but he’d rather play with his ball. If you could lecture Barney about the importance of hard work, that would be great, sir.”
The president nodded and said, “Yeah, I can do that.”
We put a lavalier microphone on the president and began recording. On his way out, he was getting into his role, saying, “Oh yeah, I can do this.”
The president gave a performance that can only be described as masterful.
Pointing to his office, he said: “Barney, this here’s the Oval Office. This is where I do my job, Barney. And when the chief of staff gives you a job to do, you do the job, Barney.”
He was out there for 20 minutes lecturing Barney. I was having an out-of-body experience.
Blake told me during the filming that the president needed this. “It was a welcome break,” he said.
One week later, the president would announce that Saddam Hussein had been captured.
Show Time
The first lady unveiled the video at the children’s hospital. There was tremendous news coverage of this event, with news networks breaking into their regular coverage to air it live. One network even had a banner that read: “Breaking: ‘Barney Cam 2′ released.”
Visitors swarmed the White House website. It was the most-viewed video of President Bush’s entire first term. Emails came in by the thousands. More Barney videos followed. Although they were the Godfather 3’s of the franchise.
President Obama’s dog, Bo, had his own Christmas videos.
Perhaps President Biden can’t do dog videos because it would turn into a horror movie (because he has a problem biting people). So they’ve done their own thing — sadly without dogs.
But Barney was the first. He let Americans, and the president, forget their problems, if only for a little while.

I’m struck by the relative innocence of those days. No wokeness, no drag queens, no racial undertones…

A wonderful tale, thankfully having zero politics in it.

Good online friends,
Yours Truly made it through the 2+ hour operation this afternoon, then 2 hours in the recovery suite. I’m back in my room here. There’s considerable pain at the incision site and the stomach, also some nausea. I’m on pain and nausea meds. The doctor will talk with me tomorrow morning. It appears there’s a chance I could be in the hospital for Christmas. I’ll have to put my little guy into boarding, I shouldn’t have him at home while I’m recovering.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers. Please keep sending them. The first few days post-surgery apparently are the roughest.

Aubergine

Prayers up.

I know it sucks, but it might be better for you to be where people are looking out for you, even if it’s Christmas.

Rest is best.

Additional details from Marica’s….

“I did manage to eat part of dinner.”

“Thank God the surgeon did a laparoscopy instead of cutting the groin open. But even with that, it looks like 4+ weeks of recovery. I can’t lift anything heavier than a gallon of water.”

WSB

🙏

pgroup2

Or a gallon of wine.

TradeBait2

🙏 always for you, PAVACA. Glad they were able to mend you.

You are very kind.
The surgeon had to ask me a bunch of questions before starting the prep. One of the questions was, “Do you know why you’re being operated on today?” The surgeon laughed when I said, “The surgeon is going to put a patch on the blown tire.” Of course I then added a description of what would actually happen.

pgroup2

That’s darn funny. 😆

TradeBait2

🤣 👍

Latch onto a good book and it’ll be over in no time. Good you made it through!

PAVACA

You are all very kind.

Here’s an interesting tidbit:
Yours Truly made it politely but firmly clear that she NOT “vaccinated” and refuses to get the shots. I also showed the staff the card from the Vaccine Control Group that I belong to and told them that I’m a member of an international vaccine control group.
What got to them was the detailed list I gave them to put into my chart in case I come down with COVID:
No remdesivir
No ventilator—supplemental oxygen only
No Paxlovid
Give me 50mg Zinc for 5 days then 30mg Zinc after that
3000 IU of vitamin D for 5 days, then 2000 IU after that
4000mg vitamin C for 5 days, then 3000mg after that
500mg Quercetin each day

I also refused the flu shot and the RSV shot.
Maybe that’s why I have a private room on a different floor as opposed to a shared room on one of the lower floors.
A bottle of hand sanitizer is given to each patient. I use it after a staff member has been in the room. I also wipe down the bedrails, bed table, and my phone with hand sanitizer.

cthulhu

They couldn’t take a chance of having you inform the other patients.

PAVACA

Coothie
Possibly. I have a feeling the staff wouldn’t appreciate hearing about Yours Truly speaking of things like how the shots contain DNA pieces of the SV40 cancer promoter sequence.

Linda

Ha ha ha! You’d have that whole hospital in an uproar. I’m glad it’s over and you can now joke about it. Prayers for your speedy recovery!

TheseTruths

Saving that list; thank you! Get well soon!

para59r

At this stage in the game I’m surprised that any medical professionals would advocate for the vax or any of their other poisons. They should have that stuff under lock and key and available only by special request after counseling on proper alternatives like those you listed. Makes me think you should have a private stash available to you. Has been thinking in the event of any kind of hospitalization, special hidden pockets should be a must have to stash our supplements just in case the medical progressive Fauci acolytes are still stalking the halls of medicine. pssst… don’t let them see this post. 😆

scott467

RDS, you’re a ROCK STAR!

Telling them exactly how it’s going to be! 👍😁

Totally agreed!

Thank you for the update, glad for the good news, sorry about the pain!

Hoping they let you go home before Christmas 👍
