That’s what I heard from the first day or very shortly thereafter. Rafi Farber, the American who now lives in Israel, and does a weekly video focused on the gold & silver markets from an Austrian Economics perspective, said the same thing.
When the other online sources I heard were all saying it was ten hours, the only regular person I ‘know’ in Israel (Rafi Farber), who I am familiar with because of his regular videos over the past couple years, said that was wrong, it wasn’t ten hours.
He was there.
He said the military did nothing for 7 hours. For SEVEN HOURS, they let Hamas murder and rape and kidnap Israelis.

The two friends my husband has have been here since Carter. They are from Iran and did flee the country after the Shah was ousted. Some of their family wound up in Germany and some in US. Totally integrated in our culture. Married to an American Christian kids are Christians. They are very educated the whole family is and hard workers. I like to recognize those who are good people.

If all of this is real, it’s a big problem. I don’t think it can all be attributed to COVID lockdowns, though they probably factor in. It’s the dumbing down of America, and these teachers don’t know how to fix it.
Classes are highly chaotic, and teachers are forced to allow some of their kids to simply not pay attention, because they are not allowed to effectively discipline minorities. That lack of attention catches up with the kids.

I might not be able to spell Covid or not if my kids had been small at the time there would not have been problems.
First I never allowed toys with batteries or electronics.
Secondly books were encouraged TV only 1 hour a day selected by us
Thirdly they would have been home schooled selected by my husband.
Fourth kids need enough rest before midnight and a well balanced home cooked diet.
What I see today babies are given tablets as pacifiers and TV the babysitter. No books all plastic electronic toys no learning value.
Kids are kept up to late and have lousy diets.

Lurking is good, but don’t lose site of all the bouncing balls. Having you back in tip top shape is preferable. An occasional Don Bongino show should be able to keep you up to speed for most events important enough to be concerned about.
I deeply sympathize with her situation. You can be going along, minding your own business, and something inside your body goes “spung!”
You stop, think “what the heck was that?”, and try to compare it with things you have experienced before…..but there’s no good comparison.
In times past, you might spend a bunch of time literally rubbing shoulders with people, bundled up around a wood stove. Or you might find a corner down at the pub. Now we scarcely touch other people, and the companions at our public house are scattered across a half-dozen time zones.
So you’re alone, and puzzled, and the “spung” could be anything from a touch of gas to a life-threatening emergency…..and there’s a whole industry dedicated to keeping you guessing and reporting in to the medical profession.
I hope we hear from her soon.

And I hate being the bearer of bad news tonight. Some of you may remember Kal and Bren, although I don’t believe they commented here much. We just learned that a week before Christmas Bren fell off their deck, breaking her neck. She is conscious, in pain, and on a ventilator. After prayer and reflection she has asked to be removed from the ventilator. Her prognosis is very, very poor. She is not expected to survive.
On a happier note, Kal was battling with leukemia and after years of working with it, they finally found a treatment protocol that he could withstand and he is in full remission.
I know they would appreciate prayers.

What many don’t know is, there is treatment for Lyme that is not mainstream, but effective. It involves supplements and things that are taken for short periods of time, in rotation. This defeats Lyme’s ability to “hide” in the body, something it does very well. My youngest son was treated with this protocol, and has no symptoms almost ten years later.

The monitor I normally use for Raspberry Pi’s is complaining about a missing DVI input and refusing to work (Pi’s all use HDMI because it demands less power than VGA).
The timing for this is poor. I have to do some tax shuffling in December and January.
Can you use an adapter?
There are adapters, and I own one [somewhere], but they’re iffy in this application. It needs an HDMI input, and a USB input (for power), to drive the VGA output. It’d mean swapping in a VGA monitor even to do that, as nothing drives DVI around here.
The computer store around the corner had a stack of 24″ monitors for less than $100, so I’ll just grab one tomorrow.

She needs to ask if it’s Paxlovid, Lagevrio, or Veklury. The first is the Pfizer rebound drug (bad, failure), the second is molnupiravir (not as bad), and the third is remdesivir (very bad). The latter (remdesivir) is an injection – the first two are pills.

Following slow loan growth during the COVID-19 pandemic, community banks increasingly parked their assets in Treasury bonds, mortgage-backed securities and municipal bonds, which then lost value due to higher interest rates, leaving those banks with billions in unrealized losses, according to the WSJ. Interest rates rose due to the Federal Reserve hiking the federal funds rate to a range of 5.25% and 5.50%, the highest level in 22 years, in an effort to tame inflation that peaked under Biden at 9.1% in June 2022.
In the third quarter, more than 300 banks had 50% of their assets in securities, and 100 of those had more than 75%, according to the WSJ. In contrast, only 19% of all assets invested by American banks were held in securities in the middle of the year, indicating that the top banks that hold the majority of assets have less in securities.
Depositors have become increasingly cautious about where they place their money following a string of regional bank failures earlier this year, starting with Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), resulting in federal regulators seizing the bank’s assets. As a consequence, depositors have increasingly brought their money to bigger banks that they see as a safer bet, believing they are presumably immune from the same kind of bank runs that SVB and others saw.

One of the two community banks I use took their hit on the treasuries and sold them 18-24 months ago while they still had good loan interest income. So they are in good shape today. The other had to space theirs out more and spread the losses over several years. They have been fortunate to be in a region where economic activity has remained good, so they will survive this.

Yours Truly made it through the crisis of yesterday without needing to go to the ER. I was in constant contact with my son and his wife.
It appears that it was a combination of panic-anxiety attacks plus side effects of the Ibuprofen. I’ll talk to the surgical team RN on call and ask about either reducing the Ibuprofen dose or stopping it altogether and changing to Acetaminophen for pain.
One of top side effects of Ibuprofen is dizziness.
I cannot stay at my son’s house, as both he and his wife work at hospitals in Greensboro and Winston-Salem and commute back and forth. I do have the daughter and her husband of my next-door neighbor who I can call upon if needed.
I wish to thank Nebraska Filly for the exchange we had yesterday, in which her opinion was it is “high time” for me to put panic-anxiety disorder issues behind me and move forward. I am taking this opinion to heart.

My favorite herbal remedy for anxiety is American Skullcap, Latin name Scutellaria lateriflora. I prefer it in alcohol tincture form. I make my own, but it can be purchased. DON’T try the kind tinctured in glycerin; it doesn’t seem to work nearly as well.

The best way I can describe the effect is, it is like when you have a really good comfort-food meal, and you have that warm ball of coziness in your tummy. It is just soothing like that. I used a ton of it during Covid, just to keep my anxiety at bay.

Jeremy of The Quartering usually does a pretty good job of checking the veracity of stories, so I’m going to trust him on this one. I’ve only done a cursory web search that showed a LOT of similar discussions going on, but a viral lie can do that too. Still, it fits the present pattern of Big Corps and Big Government intrusion and abuse. We’ll know for sure somewhere between Jan 1 and Feb 1 (about when the first bills will show up with $500 fines for “wrong think” texts…)
IF this story is true (and Jeremy checks the T-Mobile Website) there will be “fines” for text messages that contain Wrong Think. I learned a new acronym: SHAFT. Sex Hate Alcohol Firearms Tobacco. So, OK, IF I text a friend that he ought to really try “Aberfeldy Whisky as it is a great ride.” will that get me a $500, or $2000, or all the way to the $2500 fine? I’d like to know, because it is a great whisky (sad the bottle is now empty…)
Now as the terms were looked at, it talked about fines for anything that “crossed their network”. OK… So I see 2 big problems here.
1) That means T-Mobile will be reading every single text. Is that not against section 230 “common carrier” law?
2) What would prevent a person from getting on a non-T-Mobile phone and texting such Forbidden Words to a T-Mobile Target? It crosses their network and the only one they can fine is the target… I can get an SMS capable Burner phone for about $20 and load it with $20 of minutes and texts and go to town… Worst they can do is take what is left of my $20 (and I think I can pump out $20 of texts faster than they can react… and the phone is reusable with a SIM swap…and at most an EMI reflash)

My intent is to wait until about February and assess where we are. I had thought of buying a Wireless based Internet service from T-Mobile. I used one of their “Hot Spots” when in the vacation cottage (aka immobile mobile home) in the RV park and the service was good with reasonable prices. That is now “on hold” indefinitely. T-Mobile will need to assure me that there will be NO scanning of my traffic before I will even remotely consider them again.
