So, I got a bunch of the SSH stuff to work today — I can log into user zz456 and zz789 on computer zz from computer xx. User zz456 can do sudo things and zz789 cannot. It’s just not handling the keys right — it makes me input the passwords.
Unfortunately, my internet got interrupted just as the Fiancee got home, so it’s still hanging.
One thing that is quite annoying is that the link is an ssh link, but there are two sets of configurations for it. One is for sshd — the daemon (automatic process) that listens for links, and one is for ssh — the side that goes “when I’m calling yooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-oou…..” The former is also known as the server, and the latter is the client.
Let’s take, for instance, using a non-standard port. The regular ssh port is 22, which is in the lower 1000 ports that cannot be modified by regular users. I already described using the ufw firewall to drop the port. Doing a quick lookup on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_TCP_and_UDP_port_numbers , we can find ports 9650 and 9850 have nothing going on — so we’re going to have our zz server listen on port 9650 (we’ll use 9850 for our yy server when we get to it). We do this by going into the /etc/ssh directory and changing the line in the sshd_config file that says “Port 22” to “Port 9650”.
We then need to add a firewall rule on computer zz to ALLOW IN on port 9650 — and, if applicable, a similar firewall rule on computer xx to ALLOW OUT on port 9650 as well. (Firewall rules are normally for new connections. If xx says “hi” on port 9650, and zz responds with “hello” on the same port, there is no need for zz to specifically ALLOW OUT and xx to ALLOW IN because it is a continuing conversation. [This is not the case if the reply is a week later, BTW].)
Hopping back to xx, however, we don’t configure diddly. We merely say “ssh -p 9650 zz456@zz” to create the link.
I’m hoping that getting everything to work the way it’s supposed to will cancel out a bunch of these annoyances, but it’s a work in progress.

SSH is a gateway to a variety of things.
First to be implemented is a printserver. I had been using a pi for one for a number of years until it died while doing a distribution upgrade — I’d been plugging video, keyboard, and mouse into it, doing upgrades, then removing them. With ssh, I’ll be able to do more frequent upgrades, with less chance of one being catastrophic in scale.
Next is a bunch of NAS. Pis are good for this because they consume less power than a light bulb. That will enable automated backups, as well as data consolidation. Already, we’re talking about a number of computers.
There are little frills like running a caching DNS server/filter ( https:pi-hole.net ) and creating a wireless bridge to a part of the house that doesn’t have wired internet (probably to run another printserver there). Creating an internal website for bird cams. Computer health monitoring…..
I’ve got a bunch of cheap computers, and a wide vista of things that can be done by assigning a remote computer to do it.
Gotcha! All much more manageable when managed remotely instead of with many local KVMs!
It also means you can put away all those extra keyboards, video monitors, and mice — and tuck the computers into less accessible locations.
While not going crazy about internet-of-things dishwashers, doesn’t it make sense to have your backup drives at the other end of your house from your home office, in case a fire only gets half your home?
A Raspberry Pi Zero WH [ https://www.adafruit.com/product/3708 ] is only $16. Once initially set-up, you can even hide it inside other devices (e.g. a lawn sprinkler or landscape lighting controller box — all it physically needs is a good, clean source of 5V). From there, if it can be reached by software, it can be upgraded, maintained, adjusted, and monitored…..if you can ssh to it.
OK, “PubkeyAuthentication yes” in the server’s sshd_config file got rid of pam messages…..that seems good.
I vaguely recall something about the server needing a secret from the client, as well as the client needing a secret (public key) from the server. I didn’t find it today.

People need to cook at home. They can make the best hamburgers on their grill. I do not understand the fascination with burger establishments. Maybe my age is showing .I rather dine out nice if I need too then 4-5 times taking a hamburger home.
I suspect people develop a taste for a particular restaurant chain’s hamburger (Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Burger King, etc.), and they can’t make their home cooked burgers taste like what they’re used to at the fast food place.
That, and the convenience factor.
I buy a few pounds of 85% lean hamburger, make them into 1/2 pound patties, put them in individual zip-lock bags, and put all of the patties into a larger freezer zip-lock bag.
When I want a burger, I have to think of it ahead of time, to allow time to thaw. Then I have to know how to cook it (which I’ve been doing since I was about 10 years old).
Then I have to clean up after myself, and figure out how the dish washing soap and scrub sponge work (which I’ve been doing since I was about 7).
So there’s a lot involved.
How many young people today can do more than any two of those steps? 😂
Similar around here. Patties go in sandwich bags, then freezer. Larger bag not needed here. Grands get to do the dishes, everyday.
Using the larger bag just helps to prevent freezer burn, and prevents the patties from spilling out all over the inside of the freezer, which in my case is above the refrigerator section 👍

My Mom stopped cooking anything besides dinner by the time I was in 3rd or 4th grade. Many kids lived close enough to school to walk home for lunch. I almost never ate in the school cafeteria.

If we wanted to eat, we were going to have to make it ourselves. And clean up afterwards.

It shouldn’t be doing this so early in the cycle. The parabolic move upward hasn’t happened in previous cycles until a couple months after the April halving.
At least two things are different this time, which may be causing the bull run to start early:
1) a lot more people are aware of the halving this time around, and many of them are front-running it, instead of waiting too long and missing it when it would normally start
2) the Bitcoin spot ETFs that began in early January. The sheer volume of money coming into the ETFs, every day, which in turn must be used to buy Bitcoin, is overwhelming the normal cycle trends

There is no longer any ‘resistance level’ at that point.
Then true price discovery begins.

Maybe in the beginning of his career he had good intentions. Over time he’s obviously been blackmailed (wife) and paid off for his decisions against the country.
He’ll definitely get his just rewards if he doesn’t repent of his crimes against humanity. I can live with knowing justice will be done in the end, because it surely isn’t going to happen in his remaining days.
