The Fiancee and I had planned one year to do a sub-trip out of Vegas to Utah/Arizona. We had planned to see Bryce, Zion, and perhaps a peek at the Grand Canyon.
Bryce Canyon was so magnificent that we ended-up bailing on the other two. It is very highly recommended.
You still need to do those others! The Grand is quite grand!
They’re within striking distance of Vegas — you can fly to Vegas, rent a car and drive, then return the car and continue Vegas-ing. It makes for a fun break.

My aunt w/ some descendants attempted it a few years back over horrible roads (they lost a hubcap even) & then when they got there it was like $50/person which they didn’t have/want to pay…maybe it’s better now?
My understanding is that it’s about the same, although I haven’t been monitoring it very much — I’m acrophobic.
We camped on the North Rim when I was a teen & the 6 kids from 2 families went partway down into the Canyon on a switch back trail. We saw a cowboy on horseback taking the trail too. The colors there are more the burnt oranges rather than the pastels of the South Rim, which is also spectacular. When we were there you could just walk right up to the edge & have an unimpeded view & not pay for the privilege…

When we were there, a gaggle of nene geese were in the parking lot — some attempting to climb into people’s vehicles. Considering that they are “near threatened” with extinction, this behavior was pretty forward.
One of the things about Bryce is that you start at about 9,000 feet, so these little 300 foot elevation changes with your backpack feel like 1000 foot changes with an 80 pound sack of cement.
Zion is also spectacular!

The human body makes its own antibodies to fight disease. That’s the role of the human body immune system. Well, I put all the configurations the way I think they go, and flicked the switch, and it ain’t working. I now have two clients and two servers. I know I’ve got a bunch of them around, but I need to find one that is not being used. In the meantime, I thought I’d drop by, read some comments, quaff some brew, and let things stir around in my head.
When you establish an ssh connection, there are two messages available. The first type, “banner”, is before the user is authorized and typically is like “Employees Only”. The second type, MOTD [Message Of The Day], is when you are authorized and dropped into a shell. On a key-driven system, you get one right after the other.
One big limitation is that both must only use ASCII stuff — no real graphics are available. Then, again, you can certainly use programs like figlet (available for installation everywhere if not already there) to generate text. You can also generate fun little widgets using “fortune | cowsay”
To make a fixed banner, make a file at /etc/ssh/my_banner containing the ASCII art you want displayed. Then edit (probably with sudo) the “Banner” line in /etc/ssh/sshd_config — it will probably say something like “#Banner no”. You want it to say “Banner /etc/ssh/my_banner” with no octothorpe. You will start getting banners after the service is restarted.
To make a fixed MOTD is pretty similar. Make a file at /etc/motd with your ASCII art of choice. Then edit the “PrintMotd” line in /etc/ssh/sshd_config — from “#PrintMotd no” to “PrintMotd yes”. Note that this will print the motd for everyone when they login — if you want someone to NOT get it (like bb123), merely put an empty file named “.hushlogin” in their home directory [the simplest way to do this is to go to the directory and type “touch .hushlogin”].
If you want a more dynamic MOTD, you can simply create a file — we’ll use sshmotd.sh — that contains ”

I think of it as the difference between taking the documents unthinkingly (which is not excusable), but without some malicious reason, vs. realizing full well that he was breaking the rules (or the law?) when he did it. Consider that Mike Pence also had documents he shouldn’t have had. I don’t think he took them to use for a book or against his political enemies, or to subvert the United States. He shouldn’t have had them, but he doesn’t seem to have taken them with some intention in mind.

Russell’s state trial was scheduled for March 18, but that trial has been canceled, and now there will be a plea hearing. Russell is expected to plead guilty.
A Hoover municipal judge found Russell guilty of false reporting to law enforcement. She was ordered to a year in jail and nearly $20,000 in fines.
Russell’s case gained national attention after she disappeared from the side of Interstate 459 in Hoover on July 13, 2023. Investigators said moments before she disappeared, she called 911, saying there was a toddler on the side of the interstate in a diaper.
She then called a family friend to tell her about the situation, and the friend heard a scream and then nothing but traffic noise.
First responders arrived to find Russell’s vehicle, wig and cell phone but no toddler.
A full-scale search was launched, including local, state and federal agencies.
Russell walked up to her home on July 15 and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. She told a story about a kidnapping. However, detectives determined the whole thing was a hoax.
Detectives discovered Russell had “Googled” the movie “Taken” and searched for information on the Amber Alert system ahead of the incident.
Russell has not publicly spoken about the incident or explained why she faked her own abduction or where she was during the two days. Her attorney said those details would eventually be divulged, but his client’s mental health was a priority.

In addition, I think that when claims of tips, reports, and sources are made, we deserve to know who they are. It’s not as if they are secret witnesses; I imagine they all have social media accounts. I see no reason not to disclose them so people can judge for themselves.
What is also interesting is that the X post by Santa Surfing that prompted the above-referenced discussion is no longer there. There is now a different “Santa Surfing” comment in the open. So I’m wondering how that got changed.

Another reason why sources matter: We have no idea where those photos came from, what the occasions were, how much plastic surgery Biden had had and how recent it was, whether the photos have been touched up or photoshopped, whether AI is involved, and whether the people behind them have agendas of their own.

The judge overseeing the Georgia election interference case on Wednesday dismissed some of the charges against former President Donald Trump, but many other counts in the indictment remain.
What You Need To Know
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee wrote in an order that six of the counts in the indictment must be quashed, including three against Trump, the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee.
But the order leaves intact other charges, and the judge wrote that prosecutors could seek a new indictment on the charges he dismissed.
The six charges in question have to do with soliciting elected officials to violate their oaths of office. That includes two charges related to the phone call Trump made to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a fellow Republican, on Jan. 2, 2021.
“All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have,” Trump said.
The case accuses Trump and 18 others of conspiring to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state to Democrat Joe Biden. Trump has pleaded not guilty.
The ruling comes as McAfee is also considering a bid by defendants to have Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis removed from the case. Defendants have alleged that Willis has a conflict of interest because of her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.

Dollar stores were supposed to be a way for people to save a little money on the types of items they sell. I’m wondering if the market is too saturated with them.
Theres a map in the article showing the location of just this chain. Plus theres 99 cent stores and dollar general, what used to be picnsave(now big lots) and places like marshalls and ross.

I had to chuckle when they brought up the use of cod liver oil. My mother once told me that when she was growing up that my grandmother always gave them cod liver oil or castor oil when they were sick. I didn’t know cod liver oil was high in vitamins A and D. It makes a lot of sense that it would help. People seemed to know how to treat illness and disease back then, without big pharma drugs and doctors. Mom grew up during the depression and I doubt that she ever saw a doctor until she grew up.
I used to get Cod Liver oil as kid. I have some also took some and then after covid faded I got lazy and stopped.
I think there was a Little Rascal’s episode w/ a bunch of kids in an orphanage being lined up & given cod liver oil. It sure looked like it tasted horrible!

Several NGO partnerships with mega corporations include RedRoof Inn, Royal Farms, Shopify, CSX, Delta Airlines, DoorDash, Etsy, and even Bloomberg.
The NGO’s relationships run deeper than mega-corporations, in fact, all the way up to the Biden administration.
In December of 2022, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed a memorandum of understanding with Tent Partnership to “expand economic opportunity for refugees” in the private sector.
Since the Biden administration opened the floodgates, 10 million illegal immigrants invaded the nation. The NGO serves as an extension for mega-corporations to exploit cheap labor.
Since the summer of 2018, there has been zero job creation for native-born workers…

This leads us to a Bloomberg report showing how meatpacker Tyson Foods Inc. is set to hire tens of thousands of migrants via Tent Partnership. Tyson already employs 42,000 migrants among its 120,000 US workforce.
“We would like to employ another 42,000 if we could find them,” said Garrett Dolan, who leads Tyson’s efforts to eliminate employment barriers such as immigration status.
“We’re recognizing there’s not a lot of people that are going to be working labor-manufacturing jobs that are American,” Dolan said, adding a large portion of new hires “are going to come from refugees and immigrants, so we’re now in the business of strategically thinking that through.”

As a lay person, I see two layers. One is the merits of the case that even lay people can see are lacking. The other is the necessary legal wrangling that has to go on as a case progresses. So here they are talking about the ability of the lawyer in charge, Nathan Wade, to maneuver the case through the system.
I understand that he is discussing what could have been done better as a legal exercise.
But why is this discussion even taking place? The case should never have made it past Day 1.
To discuss this like it is an actual case with merit just legitimizes it in the minds of too many people while forgetting it is meritless on Day 1.
