My son Nathaniel called a little while ago to say that he & his wife are at the hospital as her labor has started (naturally, thankfully). As of our conversation her contractions were 90 seconds apart but dilation was only about half way. Please pray that this baby will be born easily with no complications for DIL or grandbaby.
Hubby, who likes to go by Grandpa Grizz, declared last night that all the grandkids are actually GrizzKidz 😍 Love & Blessings to all!

You reminded me of when I was giving birth to N, my first born, in a Northern Michigan small town hospital. My OB was of Korean extraction & had that accent. He gave me advice that as a woman sounded strange (& was technically slightly off base) but that phrase in his accent is part of our family history lore.

Oh my!!! My second pregnancy was delivered 6 weeks early deliberately. The specialist I saw on Friday, thinking he’d follow me to the Natural end of the pregnancy, did a Doppler ultrasound to follow blood flow in both twins’ umbilical cords & said “We gotta get the Little Guy out before he dies” of Twin B, Josiah. They scheduled me for induction on Monday & were supposed to have 15 staff people in the room, 5 for each twin, & 5 for me. Instead there was just my husband, my mom, & a nurse who only got a glove on one hand in time to catch twin A (Brandon), & twin B (Josiah) was born a minute later (looking dead per my husband) with the doctor just entering the doorway after having been paged STAT. Hubby about passed out.
These were my smallest babies, being premies, w/ B weighing 5# 4oz & J 2# 6oz (1060 grams–he qualified for SSI immediately as a Very Low Birth Baby under 1200 grams) & never came home from the hospital until after his first heart surgery, basically in the NICU for 2 1/2 months. I think he was about 4# when he came home post-op. Thankfully B only had 10 days in NICU as they said often premies were there until their original birthdates. The twins together weighed less than their older brother & now both of that brother’s baby girls!
Did your premie baby have to stay in the hospital for any length of time? My twins were born in the 90’s but I’m guessing your daughter was born before that when protocols were likely different. When my twins were born in Metro Detroit, instead of Northern Michigan where we lived at the time, there was a set of premie twins who were born Up North & both died.
I think my mom helped to save my twins’ lives by “reading the riot act” to my OB when she had conversed w/ her nursing colleagues about twin B’s diagnosed condition at 20 weeks IUGR (Intra Uterine Growth Retardation aka small for gestational age) & learned how serious this was so she convinced my OB to send me to a high risk pregnancy doctor & there were None North of Bay City, which is how the twins came to be born downstate & to thankfully survive…sorry for all that info for it was all pretty intense at the time & is well seared into my memory, unlike so many things since…sigh…
My youngest brother is a March baby too 🙂 as is his wife, but no one else in the family until today!
My babies all were early and 5LB . They are a blessing to their spouses and children. That is all we can wish for. 🙂

Given our “brutal” special needs journey on our second pregnancy there is always just a bit of breath holding until we get the official good news. Though our family is Quite experienced in dealing w/ Very Complex special needs we Really Don’t want Any of our kids to have to travel a similar path…so we very much hope that God will be merciful in His good wisdom here…

My mom Claims that she had little to no pain when giving birth & never had to push…hmmm, somehow I’ve always thought there was selective memory loss there 😉

It was actually a class in a physical therapy room in the local Catholic Hospital. Like you, it was over 36 years ago.

LOL Hubby remembers the room & the general location, which is more than I do & he literally just did the BM quote w/ Korean accent that I wrote elsewhere today (without telling him about it)…we’re Both scarred for life there 😉 😉

It may be worse than you think about chaotic mom brain. I remember sending our godkid’s mom an article that said that there was a certain transfer during early stages of pregnancy that left moms with a certain amount of brain cells from their infants.

I lived for a time on the Big Island of Hawaii, and I can personally attest to this. It was very strange. But nothing got done fast, and very little ever changed. I found it disturbing.
That is like that in many southern countries. I remember people from Spain and Italy had that reputation. I had to learn to slow down because I am a problem salver and it has to be don now. I envy people who can enjoy life and know what is important and what is not. I am getting better at it and life is good 🙂

We encountered some of that in Northern Michigan. When we first lived there we had to wait a month to get a telephone line installed (though it was the middle of Winter & we were in the highest snow region of the Lower Peninsula). A couple Summers ago my brother needed his boat repaired & he got a referral from a neighbor who was a lifelong resident & retired cop, very community minded. Well little bro took the boat there & they didn’t work on it for months. I think he finally had to get the unrepaired boat from the shop to take it elsewhere. Very strange. We’ve also heard that when people need work done on their cottages it is Very Difficult to get people to come out, even when they say they will. Many of these people are cottage owners & just vacation in the area, but some live there year round. It’s Very Different from how things work in the Detroit area.
I encountered that “time blindness” in Liberia back in the 80’s & it was Super Uncomfortable to this American!
I met a doctor the other day he was from West Africa spoke German and used to be a Football player. He had a higher IQ than 85.

A friend bought his house with coins. He was a coin collector and would buy the end of the day coins from local shops. After he went thru them, he just tossed the bag of common coins into the corner of the room. He did this for decades. (Why the apartment did not collapse from the weight I do not know.) When he retired he took all the coins, in his pick-up to the bank and bought his retirement house. I think he had to make a couple of trips.

Good news! My 3rd granddaughter was born just before 4:30am today. She & her mom are doing well. This baby weighed 9# 1oz. Her dad, my firstborn Nathaniel, was my biggest baby at 7# 11 1/2 oz. N’s wife is Way more petite than I am & her first baby weighed more than 8#. She’s quite the trooper.

On moving day when they finally leave the free hotel, if it ever happens, they get $30,000 in rent assistance for two years, free luggage, free U-Haul boxes, free new beds with free delivery, up to ten items of free furniture, a free “move-in package (plates, towels, cutlery, etc.) Up to $900. Delivered free,” as Carr recounts, and then moving on, they get a free case manager to find them a place to stay, free parenting classes, free “early childhood education” and free “life coaches” among a host of other things on Howie’s lists.
Sound like a good deal? It is for them. No wonder so many are coming. This ain’t no Ellis Island anymore where migrants once checked in, passed inspection and got to work immediately in order to sustain themselves. It’s all taxpayer-paid now, meaning, the U.S. is effectively importing a foreign underclass as if the current one weren’t sufficient for U.S. needs.
It’s lavish, it’s bound to have the recipients writing to their relatives back home (or more likely, calling on the free cell phone) to ‘come on down’ because the gravy train is flowing and the streets are paved with gold.
As for the rest of Americans, well, they can shut up and pay taxes, because that’s all the Biden administration and its blue-city allies have to offer them.

What bothers me as someone who lives in a metro region with ten MAJOR bridges over navigable waterways is how fast the thing crumpled. Every now and then, a barge grouping will hit a bridge. Yes, the bridge needs to be inspected, but they usually survive without much damage.
TBH, I don’t remember what the current is like that far north in Maryland. Farther south, where the water is truly the Chesapeake, and not a tributary, it can be treacherous. My family lived on the western shore peninsula, and the worst of it was on the Bay moreso than even the Patuxent. There’s something hinky with this one, that’s for sure.

The Dali was reportedly detained in Belgium after scraping side of quay and significantly damaging part of hull in good weather.
The same vessel that hit the Baltimore Francis Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday, destroying it and sending people and vehicles tumbling into the water, was also involved in a collision while leaving the port of Antwerp, Belgium, in 2016.
According to Vessel Finder and the maritime incident archive Shipwrecklog, the Dali – a 948ft (290-meter) cargo ship with a capacity of 10,000 containers – was leaving the container terminal of Antwerp heading to Bremerhaven.
As it did so, its bow reportedly swung around, causing the stern to scrape the side of the quay, significantly damaging several meters of the hull.
The ship was reportedly detained by authorities afterward and docked in Deurganckdok, Belgium. There were reportedly no injuries or adverse pollution.
According to Vessel Finder, the weather was fine at the time, and the incident was reportedly blamed on the ship’s master and pilot on board.

At about 6:30 in the second video he talks about the ships in the area. The ones in port at Baltimore will be trapped there until the bridge is cleared. Other container ships and bulk carriers that were on their way to Baltimore will have to go to a different port.

Just a side note in history…My grandfather came from nothing so he was always looking for a way to make money…..During the lead up to the depression Gramps saw what was happening and he purchased all the sugar he could find. Then he stored it in the cellar for a few years and when sugar became non-existent in the area, Gramps started to sell & barter the Sugar. Sugar helped my grandparents survive during the Great Depression.
With the reduction in sugar imports, I think that I might soon want to follow in my Gramp’s footsteps and start buying up sugar.

We had a bridge like that and it was blown up to make way to a new bridge.
Both of those spans were replaced with new ones. The Blanchette is the I-70 bridge over the Missouri River and the Boone, the US Highway 40 bridge over the same river.

I did read somewhere that it was a local crew piloting into the harbor. That happens on the Mississippi in New Orleans a lot. A local crew boards before entering the delta to navigate. Something similar may have happened.

Actually, no. One would not be a cause of the other. I’m keeping an open mind until I have good evidence that there were explosives. If I come to believe it was sabotage, it will be because of solid evidence, which for me entails more than a video of someone telling me it was dynamite without any corroborating explanation of how that would work and what it would look like.

Well, TT, I don’t know for sure what they are, but there are DEFINITELY flashes of fire at each breaking point as the bridge goes down. Take a look at video on a slower speed, they’re there. And they’re fire, not electrical flashes.

So how many on the ship were in the know? Did they think their lives would be in danger when they hit a bridge and caused it to collapse? Did they wonder if it would collapse on top of them or cause them to sink, especially when the explosives went off? Were they on a suicide mission, if it called for that?
Did they cause the blackout on the ship? Someone had to be extremely skillful to pull off the timing of the blackouts and aiming the ship in exactly the right place with no power on board.

I’m not arguing for one side or the other, but I wonder why no one is asking questions. Because if we want to get to the truth, we can’t assume things or trust other people’s assumptions.
• Where did he get that video?
• Why does the sky in his video appear so much lighter than it does in the others?
• Why doesn’t that video match the others where we don’t see those lights? Those videos were taken in real time, and I don’t see how they could have been doctored. So why didn’t those lights appear in them?
• How does he know it’s dynamite? Does he have any idea what dynamite would look like in an instance like this? Does anyone here know, or does anyone have access to information about, how much dynamite it would take to blow up sections of a bridge, and what that would look like?
• There is no smoke in his video like we see in the demolition videos.
• Is there any other possible explanation for the cause of those lights?

Far left is, I believe a standard flashing light on structures. Likely navigation aid, my guess. More to the center, detonation.
I’m not sure I’m seeing what you’re referring to. There is smoke from the ship, and at one point there is a flash of light in that area, but that flash of light occurs after the bridge starts to collapse. I also don’t see a series of flashes across the length of the bridge.

That’s my thinking as well.
I watched one particular flare at a break point VERY closely in one of the early MSM videos (which are unlikely to have been doctored). To me, the bright flare looks exactly like an electrical cable break, transformer fire, etc. There is an initial burst of sparks and bright plasma followed quickly by flames without much fuel or smoke and then quickly to darkness.
Explosions do not look like that.
Also, I have watched videos of sabotage of iron girders with cutting charges (9/11 stuff). It actually does look somewhat similar, but there is much less light and much more smoke.
But most importantly, the timing is different – the light happens BEFORE the bending and breaking, not after.
So IMO it DEFINITELY looks like breaking high-power electrical cables.
I will keep all sabotage theories in mind.

If you look at the bridge you’ll see that it had lights on it, you can actually see the lights go out as the bridge collapses. Lighting means electricity. Electricity means there was cabling in the bridge that carried electricity. I believe what others see as explosions, I see as sparks from electrical cables that were snapping in the domino effect as the bridge collapsed.
Agreed. Though the small explosions can be seen. Tension, snap, arc and flash and spark, even flame would likely be the result and you know a bridge like that is outfitted with some sort of electric wiring.

Also, the boat hitting the bridge is very clear in the early videos. But the boat losing steering power – THAT is the thing we need to pay attention to.

I’ve spent a good bit of time in Astoria, Oregon watching the Maritime Pilots climb into & out of ships that they were piloting out or into the Columbia River from or into the Pacific Ocean. A Maritime pilot’s job, on a good day, requires top physical condition but on stormy days, when ships are being tossed about, the althleticism of these guys is off the charts. It’s a rigorous job and good or stormy day, you couldn’t pay me enough to be a Maritime Pilot.

American cavers use a 17/16″ rope and Prussiks, Jumars, Gibbs Ascenders or rope walkers of some type.
British cavers use cable ladders. They are about 6 inches wide and you climb the side using a heel – toe technique. You had BETTER be in very good shape to climb those suckers. Even under the best conditions they buck like a bronc.
With rope walkers you can stop and rest, with a cable ladder you really can not rest.
I imagine those pilot ladders are very similar to British caving ladders since the caving Brits probably stole the idea (and ladders) from the pilot ladders.

(bald headed guy mentioned anchor dropped at the last minute and says it’s what caused the boat to make that final turn).
I think if Elaine Chou could avenge her sister she would. I don’t think she’s been in the news at all at all since her sister died. Just eerie silence.
