His rant on the conduct of the war is bullseye accurate. Except for the part where he says Israel should have attacked Hezbollah on 10-08-23 and merely laid siege to Gaza instead of going in.
He thinks Israeli policy is being driven by hostage rescue instead of military victory. He’s right of course but the bad media coverage of Gaza is due to Israel leaving cell service operational in Gaza.

Like this lengthy Rapture discussion Hubby & I recently had. I’m arguing for the view that whatever the Real meaning of some End Times prophecies or views could be it is hard to know since multiple scriptures are used by different proponents of theories, & sometimes they argue opposing views from the Same scripture…
I believe the Scripture but have a hard time reconciling these 2 statements, for instance, as not seeming to be contradictory.

I don’t fault the Bible, or God, for my inability to fully reconcile such things & chalk it up to God’s ways are higher than ours, so we won’t necessarily fully understand Him. I can live with that 🙂

Spanish is a very nice language to learn if you want to know more about English, because it still has many of the Latin technicalities that English jettisoned — the subjunctive mood, the distinction between direct object and indirect object, various flavors of the past….
I don’t know if those issues/complexity are also part of French but I did take that for four years. My HS offered Latin & in hindsight I Really Wish I’d taken that language too 🙂
I actually never learned many of those technicalities, such as they are, for English either, but got pretty good at usage somehow anyway, maybe from reading so much 🙂
The Fiancee is doing a quick dip into Italian because she intends to go to Rome later this year. She did a quick shot of French prior to going to Paris last year. She is finding Italian somewhat frustrating for what it is leaving out, compared to Spanish (with which she is reasonably proficient).
What’s funny is that there are little things in English that are just as weird as the things in foreign languages, but English-speakers just refuse to see them.

Once someone publishes a textbook, people think they have a handle on a language.
Take the word “paloma”. Depending on where you are, it can mean something as specific as “dove” (and not even “pigeon”) or be the general word for “bird”. There are places that speak Spanish where “un pato es una paloma” (“a duck is a bird”) is self-evident and other places where it is nonsense (“a duck is a dove”).
The great Spanish kingdoms of Castile and Aragon spoke different versions of Spanish….and there is some history as to why Castilian is deemed “more pure and more noble” today.
It’s not just Spanish, of course…..
I knew a guy in college from either Central or South America, I forget which country now, but I believe he spoke a Castilian form of Spanish that had a lisping “S” sound, rather annoying 🙂
That is a key distinguishing “feature”.
And then, you find the sort of Spanglish that is commonly used in manufacturing, food-service, construction, and landscaping in California.
The first time I had to run production, I was assigned a translator to relay my directives to the shop floor. I explained what needed to happen, and she turned around and said, “pon este green LED en este boards.”
I try not to embarrass my guys, but I busted out laughing and said, “what the fuck was that?” I continued, “there are perfectly good Spanish words that could be used — ‘pon estes LEDs verdes en estas tablas’ — is that the sort of translation necessary?”
A substantial amount of the “Spanish” used in California would barely be recognizable to a Castilian Spaniard.

Oh my on the shoulder. We really don’t heal well as we age it seems. Hubby messed his upper arm up on his previous job & it’s been about a year & a half & it’s still not right. It doesn’t interfere Too Much with the current job but it can bother him when he sleeps or reaches for certain things.
He’s also developed a rather nasty positional vertigo that’s making getting under the car for certain repair jobs very difficult. For some reason laying on his back or side & cutting his eyes around as he looks up & around while working on the car can get really problematic. Fortunately our middle son is occasionally available to assist w/ the car, or even our older son sometimes, so between the 3 of them they Eventually get the job done 😍

My parents put an addition on the back of their house when I was in Junior High. When I graduated HS, 4-6 years later, they Still hadn’t finished the interior & had particle board floor. We had the grad party between that back room & the backyard.
Before it was a room addition, part of that space was perhaps a 12 X 12 3 season screened in porch. Being a February baby my mom used to put me in a snowsuit in a bassinet on that porch for naptime. Apparently it took for I much prefer to sleep in the cold than in the heat LOL

Actually, that is a nice segue into “ways that English speakers fail in Spanish”.
There are many, many words that are very similar in Spanish and English, leading n00bs to try to “Spanglish” their way through certain encounters. A lot of times this works — “estoy enfermo”, “tengo fiebre”, “mi mano esta rompio”…..
Other times, it fails spectacularly. If you are embarrassed, you should not try to riff that into “embarazada” in Spanish, because that means “pregnant”. If you want to wash yourself, you should not ask for “sopa”, because that means “soup”. The word for soap is “jabon”, but you shouldn’t mumble, because “jamon” means “ham”.
About all the Spanish that’s spoken here is calling the $5 DVD bin at Wal-Mart the “Poncho bin” tm Hubby 😉

Spanish wants to give you an advanced hint that the following sentence is a question because the word order may be different. In English, all you do is raise the pitch at the end.

Consider also, there are languages where you get a question at the end — as in French “n’est pas?” or Japanese, “des ka?”

Makes sense. I don’t see it as an option for my keyboard. Some of you guys, like Steve, seem to get other letters that aren’t on a standard keyboard, like Cyrillic, to show.
I was watching a Korean show & the picture cut to a Qwerty keyboard the person was typing on but Korean characters were appearing on their screen. I would guess there are adaptations that can be found. I know that if I type “fiancée” that the red squiggles allow the addition of the accent ague to be included by right clicking, but that’s about as far as that goes for my typical typing…
Interesting… when I’m using Windows, I use the Alt+#### codes to get the special symbols or at worst case open their Special Symbols dialog to pick the one I want. I don’t do as much on my Mac that needs special symbols so I looked it up and learned something new. I can just hold down the key that needs an accent mark and a little window pops up to choose from. Handy stuff.

In California, it is impossible to miss Spanish. The mountain range that separates California from Nevada is the Sierra Nevada — which means “snowy saw” (a “sierra de banda” is a bandsaw and a “sierra de mesa” is a table saw). “El Camino Real” is the royal road that ran north-to-south linking the Spanish settlements and missions.
Sadly, around here, if we see a second language it’s often Arabic.
My one DIL speaks Spanish, as her mother is from Mexico, but not much around us since we don’t speak it. Her mother’s accent is Very Heavy so it’s hard to understand her, especially if she gets talking fast 🙂

I learned today that a woman who attends a group I’m part of has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She is married with four children, and I think she is in her thirties. I don’t know details about what stage it is, but she has had surgery (unknown whether it was a lumpectomy or a mastectomy). This news was unexpected about someone so young and seemingly healthy. I have no idea about her vax status; all I know is that I have seen signs of patriotism, like patriotic clothing, and the children are homeschooled.
Then, oddly, later I had pulled up a recording of a song on YouTube that I had heard from a Mozart opera. In the comments section from about two years ago, someone had mentioned a young woman’s name as an up-and-coming soprano. I looked her up, only to discover that she died of breast cancer in 2023 at the age of 25. I felt a sense of loss even though I had never heard of her before. She had such a beautiful voice and so much to offer the world.

Roe v. Wade elevated abortion to a Federal issue. This was a horrible mistake, and poisoned Federal politics for decades. Dobbs v. Jackson merely returned jurisdiction to the states. The horrific tortured writing in Roe, with its penumbras and emanations, showed how far the Court had to tease the issue to insert their ill-considered opinion.
Dems are attempting to Federalize abortion once again, based (ironically) on support from abortion-favoring jurisdictions. California and New York are attempting to push a nationwide Federal regime onto states like Montana and Tennessee, despite resistance from such pro-life states.
There does need to be a clear statement that supports citizens’ right to choose abortion or to choose life, and exposes the hypocrisy of pro-abortion states attempting to force their views on other states.

Interesting looking at country wide weather map, a semi narrow band of cloud cover starts out in the ocean off the coast of Mexico and follows the entire path of the eclipse moving North Easterly, perfectly across the country. About 90 to 95% of the eclipse will be eclipsed by this band of cloud cover.
I’d encourage everyone to take a look at your weather maps to see this. Very strange all by itself and if you don’t look now you likely will have a hard time finding it again.

I remember when I was a kid the eclipse was 100% it was magical. We had an old piece of class that was smocked . Of course God created a wonderful universe everything works so well .

We had a little “dusk” feel at about 3:15p EDT; no big deal. You could tell it was happening, but then it passed and our sunny day was back. Typical ATL day in our neighborhood: baby blue skies and no clouds!!
I just saw the eclipse a few minutes ago, amazing!
It was a strange color of daytime for a while beforehand, and then it got dark very quickly. I didn’t have any special glasses, but looking directly at it, once the eclipse was full, didn’t seem to bother my eyes. Even so, I looked away every 15 or 20 seconds just to make sure I could still see normally.
The eclipse was as complete as it could be, just a slight uniform ring of the sun around the outside edge. The sky was darkened, until you looked at the horizon, which had the blue, red and gold colors of a sunset, while the sky above was much darker.
There was a very BRIGHT red spot, very clear, looked more 3 dimensional (like a globe) than I expected, at about 7 o’clock, like a ruby gleaming in the sun, sitting just on the outer ring of the sun. Guessing that was Mars, since Mercury would likely have been smaller or impossible to see with the naked eye.
It stayed completely dark for what seemed like at least 3 or 4 minutes, and then blinding light erupted from the left hand side, and I could begin to see the outline of the Moon on the right side.
The blinding light was not uniform as I expected it to look, it was more like a bright yellow or gold volcanic eruption, a pinpoint that grew out of one spot along the left hand edge, starting at around 11 o’clock, as opposed to the whole left side of the sun becoming visible at once as the Moon moved out of the path of sunlight.
Very cool.

Could that be due to the surface of the moon being quite irregular?
I’m pretty sure the resolution available to the naked eye, both due to distance and the brightness of the sun, would not be able to detect that kind of detail.
Even if there was a range of mountains higher than Everest, and the sun was shining from directly behind them, I wouldn’t think it would be visible to the naked eye.
Just a thought.

I would never attend or watch a production that is trying to lead me in a certain direction by being untrue to the original. Its aim is to MISlead.
I do agree but often it feels like a form of control. They create situations that are misleading, confusing and downright weird and then kick back and wait for any pushback. Then…obedience to the new fake reality or you’re a xxxxx and in some places you’re subject to being reported to authorities

Senator Lindsey Graham is doing a great disservice to the Republican Party, and to our Country. At first he wanted no Abortions under any circumstances, then he was up to 6 weeks, where you’re allowed Abortion, now he’s up to 15 weeks, where you’re allowed Abortion, but what he doesn’t understand, or perhaps he does, is the Radical Left Democrats, who are destroying our Country, will never approve anything that he or the Republicans want. They love this Issue, and they want to keep it going for as long as Republicans will allow them to do so. Terminating Roe v. Wade was, according to all Legal Scholars, a Great Event, but sometimes with Great Events come difficulties. Many Good Republicans lost Elections because of this Issue, and people like Lindsey Graham, that are unrelenting, are handing Democrats their dream of the House, Senate, and perhaps even the Presidency…

Senator Lindsey Graham should spend more time focusing on all of the many people being killed because of our now non-existent Border, and the millions of people dying in senseless, never-ending Wars that he constantly favors and promotes, and should spend less time on taking away our Great Roe v. Wade Victory of sending a complicated and controversial Issue back to the States where, according to Highly Respected Legal Scholars on both sides, it belongs. The Democrats are thrilled with Lindsey, because they want this Issue to simmer for as long a period of time as possible. They are destroying our Country, and they don’t want to talk about Inflation, a Bad Economy, the Horrible Open Border, Rigged Elections, Afghanistan, Ukraine/Russia, or the Attack on Israel, all of which would never have happened if I were President. What a horrific situation. The slain couple was in a legal conference room with the wife giving a deposition conducted by her current husband in a child custody case between her and her ex-husband. Then the father of the ex-husband kills both the woman and her current husband, and then shoots himself. The shooter must have been holding an extreme grudge. Now he has gotten his way, probably. The ex-husband, his son, will probably get custody of his children.
It sure seems like that was the father’s goal. Twisted.

So, i was out while the whole thing was happening. I walked out of Church, and the light was different. I could tell it was going on. i set off for my Monday routine errands in Mid-County, and OMG, it was the least busy for that time of the week, I’ve ever seen the area. Stopped for gas where, normally, there’s work trucks and trailers, etc., and the vying for a pump is pretty cutthroat, and I drove right to one.
After filling up, I headed to another strip mall for a keyboard, and that parking lot which is one that should require life insurance on which to walk was only a quarter or so full. The box store was all but empty. So was the first grocery store where I stopped. The manager was in the parking lot with half the staff, and a cooler full of cold soda. I got to the second grocery store, and half of that store’s staff was in the parking lot. No soda at that one.
Headlights were on, street lamps lit, no nocturnal animals, though.
I’m telling you, this city is dead today. The people headed for the state parks in the Ozarks and down river.
The people also headed to various places in Southern Illinois. A cousin and her family were in the stadium at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a few thousand friends.
Talk about cheap entertainment. well, other than the gas…and the snacks….
