I prefer people too, and interacting with robots is sterile.
That said, I’ve had enough encounters with mush-mouths and people with accents that make them barely understandable that a clear voice is a relief. People need to be taught how to provide customer service. I’m not advocating for robots or AI, just making observations.
I totally agree with you about customer service. Not every person is suited to it, and shouldn’t be hired if they can’t speak understandably.
Or in the case of many youngsters, won’t because it’s the in thing to mumble.
I was just at a Dollar Tree & they had like 4 self-check out spots & one or two regular, though unmanned, cash registers. I needed “approval” for a box of Matches (??????) I purchased & it took forever for a staff person to even be in sight of all these “good citizen” types buying up the store…hmmm
I really hate self-check outs and absolutely refuse to use them. I was waiting in line a few months ago and a store clerk tried to get me to use one, offering to show me how. I said NO! I am NOT GOING TO HELP USHER IN A CASHLESS SLAVE SOCIETY! He laughed at the old lady and so did the other customers.
Hopefully they do not find out the hard way that I am not wearing a tin foil hat and am completely serious.
It’s like telling the employees that we will gladly help put them out of a job–incomprehensible. I hate those self checks, especially when buying groceries. We were in a hurry yesterday & that was the only way I could check out. The bonus was that I could sort my purchases in a way that made sense. I couldn’t believe they didn’t have staff hovering to make sure people were actually paying for everything in their carts…sigh…
The only way it would actually work well is if EVERYTHING has an RFID tag that is deactivated by the scanner.
AND you have to input your credit card BEFORE the scanner would work.
Then a detector at the door would determine if you had paid.
Actually they want to push us to the point where we do not even get to shop. Just like with livestock, your rations would be delivered to you or you would go and pick up the pre-packaged weekly ration.

Yep. “Shrinkage” (largely shoplifting) will be used as a reason to end self-checkout.
The question is whether you’ll be pushed to shop online and pick up, OR go back to regular checkout.
Most of the Walmarts here have limited their self-checkouts to 15 items, and the person watching it WILL call you on it.
I actually have a preference for the self checkout because then I don’t have to micromanage the bagging process, but now that’s moot because Colorado has required that bags cost ten cents each.
I sort how I want stuff bagged as I empty my cart. the fragile stuff gets put out last.
There are actual rules for proper bagging, and there used to be nationwide bagging competitions.
If you have an older woman as a cashier, generally you are OK. If it is a teen, esp a guy…. I am going to watch him.

Those onions were transplanted from OK more than 30 years ago & there’s a surviving patch in Metro Detroit too. They were from one of my former boyfriend’s mother’s OK garden LOL

I have been following Jim Jordan for a few years now. I think the time has come to put him on the danger watch list. He reminds me exactly of the fall of “son of a mailman” from decades ago, also from Ohio. I thought Jordan might survive the temptation but I thought the same about Kasich. I believe he has flown to close to the flame of power. I imagine he will continue for many more years. Go to the Senate or the governorship, just like Kasich. Even so I don’t think he will be a good friend of the citizens of the United States. I truly hope I am wrong.

My heart is overflowing w/ thankfulness having just spent hours yesterday with most of my Michigan family in honor of my parents’ 62nd wedding anniversary…

Hello cyber warrior friends & family. Thank you so much for your prayers, well wishes, & encouraging words as my family has been immersed in another New Life Scenario…so here’s an update:
My daughter Clarissa was past her due date, last Monday, iirc, saw the OB on Tuesday & was scheduled for This evening for an induction if she didn’t go on her own beforehand. C woke up at 4am on Saturday for the restroom & her water broke on the way so they went to the hospital later that morning. Unfortunately there was meconium (baby pooped in the womb) staining, which is an increased risk of infection & perhaps other complications.
At the hospital, the same one where our first grandchild was born last year, they set C up on a Pitocin drip to accelerate the labor process. When I arrived there in the afternoon C’s cervix was only at 4cm & it needed to be 10cm for delivery…
There were various ups & downs & some concerns about the baby’s heartrate decelerating during contractions so that they implemented a number of approaches to rectify the situation, which worked. Ultimately they turned off the Pitocin & C delivered her baby daughter, Lillian Ellsworth, at 6:37pm on Saturday. She was the 2nd fastest labor of the day on that unit, & the fastest labor wasn’t a first time mom. 🙂
Ellsworth aside: Both sides of our family have E as a middle name. In fact when Michael & I were getting to know each other he told me his middle name started with an E & he wanted me to guess it. I’m like Edward? Eugene? & then I pause & do this one eye squint look & say “it wouldn’t be Ellsworth would it?” His jaw about hit the floor for No one had Ever guessed that name. Well both our dads & both their granddads were named William Ellsworth & his grandpa was Clarence E so we have an unbroken line of Ellsworth going back to the 1860’s. We gave the E to our firstborn Nathaniel & believe that N & his wife May pass the E down to their firstborn son, should one materialize some day.
I saw an Antiques Roadshow episode that discussed on old commemorative pitcher that referred to a significant historical death, the supposed first death in the Civil War, of a man named William Ellsworth, who was killed when having climbed the staircase of a church steeple to remove a Confederate flag that had been hung there & coming back down the stairs was bayonetted to death, iirc, by Confederate sympathizers. So I Think that both of our great-grandfathers were named for this martyr to the cause of preserving the Union since these men were born in the early 1860’s when that event was likely freshly on the minds of pro-Union Americans. That’s a genealogical theory that I developed as to how the Ellsworth name started in both our families, absence other evidence, but it doesn’t explain why so many generations have chosen to keep passing Ellsworth along. That C & M gave their Daughter the Ellsworth adds a whole new twist to the equation but is so fitting since Clarissa largely broke the sex barrier at hunting camp too!
Baby was very alert & quite cute as she didn’t even get the typically misshapen head from natural delivery, having moved down & out so quickly (-2 to born in less than 3 hours). C had minimal tearing (Stage 1, compared to my Stage 4 for the first baby & bathroom complexities ever since) & was in just minor discomfort in the hours after delivery, pain of 1 on a scale of 1-10. She was pain 5-6 when I got there & thought she got to 8.5-9 at the peak of pain in labor delivery, in retrospect. She’s a trooper!
Settling into breastfeeding & family life in the hospital was going pretty well over all…
One frustration has been the “covid protocols” that are still in place at this hospital. Thankfully they relaxed the mask naziism that was present last year for our oldest son & daughter-in-law when Lilah was born. They still only allowed one additional visitor for the duration of the stay besides the dad. I am that designated visitor, as my daughter-in-law’s mother was last year.
When our 1st grandchild was born we were not even “allowed” to go to the hospital to be part of that process because of the protocols. She was in the hospital for nearly a week due to jaundice issues so we didn’t meet face-to-face until she’d come home 🙁
Now our son-in-law’s father is in the same boat as we were last year with the birth of His first grandchild. He was able to come to the waiting room outside the unit, as did my husband, & so he got some face to face info from his son & later from me after Lilian was born. This man was quite distraught & even angry that he was being denied access to his new grandchild. The hospital doesn’t even have a mechanism where you can view the baby from behind glass, like you see in the movies, or like we experienced with our twins in the NICU when there was a window that their brother could view them even if he couldn’t be directly with them in their birth hospital.
Our son-in-law’s & his father’s situation was further emotionally laden because yesterday was the anniversary of his mother’s death. Marshall was literally praying “please God don’t let the baby be born on that day” & she was born the day before so her birthday & mom’s death date are a day apart. Marshall’s mom’s mom just died earlier this month after losing her own battle with cancer when it had been hoped that she would have been able to hold on long enough to see her deceased daughter’s first grandchild in this life, but we trust that grandma & great-grandma are both celebrating in heaven over this precious new life.
Marshall’s mom birthed 4 sons, one stillborn, & Marshall might be the only one to marry or have kids. His mom’s family & her widower attached great significance to her deep desire for a daughter that was never granted in this life. When Clarissa married into the family her status as the daughter-in-law of her late mother-in-law held great significance to many in M’s family. To say that his family are overjoyed at the birth of a Baby Girl is basically an understatement. This birth is a very big deal to an extended, bereaved family.
M’s cousin from California called while I was present in the room & over speaker I could tell the deep love & emotion that was verbalized & evidenced beyond words. He confessed his tears & joy over this baby’s birth & it was so precious. This child is healing the breach in a number of lives & relationships & this is beautiful & God-glorifying.
Watching these new parents learn how to care for their daughter & care for each other in this transitional phase is also a humbling privilege. My daughter’s beauty was fully evident in her suffering to bring forth her child & now in how she tenderly cares for her needs. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that near “Madonna & child” (no offence intended here) type of interaction before, I mean she practically glows with a gentle softness & tender, loving ministry to whatever her new daughter’s needs might be…so precious.
Anyway, yesterday various events had to happen for Lillian at roughly 12 hours & roughly 24 hours after birth. One was a hearing test that was failed the first time but passed when reattempted hours later–a relief. There are also cardiac checks, & I don’t know those results yet & since Josiah is a congenital heart baby it will be great to get an all-clear in that domain, if that’s the case. Another was the bilirubin level that based on the baby’s skin color changes overnight I wondered if it might become an issue…& it has. As of when I had to leave last night they were beginning a treatment protocol adding supplemental nutrition following breast-feeding so that BF & milk production isn’t thwarted. They will be checking Lillian’s bilirubin levels sometime this morning & they assessing where they go from there. The Best Case scenario is that she might be able to come home some time today…Prayers would be appreciated here for the jaundice to quickly abate w/ no further complications!
Clarissa said that when she declined to have the Hep B shot for Lillian she got some pushback from staff, who even claimed that “no pediatrician would be willing to see an unvaccinated child.” She contacted her sister-in-law because they also declined vax’s for Lilah, & got the name of her pediatrician & low & behold that doctor is even on the list that the hospital provides so there should be no issue in getting Lillian seen there!
Clarissa pointed out that she & I have Never done the hospital thing together, where she is the patient. For 2 dozen surgeries between her 3 brothers, nearly 20 are Josiah’s, the bulk of which were also in-patient, I learned how to do the patient advocate thing & how to be (relatively) comfortable in a hospital setting. So this was a new layer in our relationship & overall that is going quite well! But I’ve got to say that spending the bulk of the day at the hospital is incredibly fatiguing. I don’t really notice it when there since there are so many things to attend to that sometimes I barely get to sit down (or use the tablet to check The Q-Tree) so the exhaustion really hits me when I leave…the old gray mare ain’t what she used to be 😉 Thankfully this hospitalization, though still marred by covidiocy, is a significant improvement over the way things were Summer 2020 when Josiah was in-patient w/ Liver Transplant Rejection issues…sigh…
On another front C & M bought a house at the end of 2022 & have been proceeding with various C of O repairs, plus their own preparations of painting & renovations, & they have not Yet moved in. Their C of O inspection was scheduled for tomorrow & IF they pass then they can legally occupy their home. Well yesterday my oldest son borrowed a box truck from his work that Hubby had to drive having a CDL, our middle son, & Marshall all gathered at Marshall’s dad’s home to collect Most of C & M’s stuff to move it into their home. Michael had to be straw boss in several ways & did some clean up in the home as it still has that “under renovation” vibe going on so when Mom & Baby are finally allowed to leave the hospital they should be able to get into their home…& I thought I was a bad procrastinator–these 2 kick my butt bigtime LOL
So it’s been a pretty involved family affair, which is a good thing, since many hands make light work! It will be interesting to see what today might bring.
So far SCORE TWO for the Kingdom of God in Live Births to Strong Christian parents who plan to homeschool & raise their daughters in the fear & admonition of the Lord. Genocide Gamers aren’t getting their grubby mitts on these precious little ones!

A couple thoughts, Clarissa & Marshall Just passed their Certificate of Occupancy inspection so now can “legally” live in their home, almost a year later. They were unexpectedly blessed to receive the entirety of the escrowed funds they’d been told would be forfeited if they didn’t get the C of O done w/in 30 days of initial inspection, PTL.
All five of my parents’ great-granddaughters were together yesterday & all but the new baby, Finley who was mostly being passed around by many family members, mostly enjoyed each other’s company & that of the extended family clan. It was something precious to see them all together for the first time ever!
I was going to post one of the pics w/ all 5 girls on the couch but I guess Hubby forgot to send them to me…maybe later…
There is/can be great joy in family & Christian fellowship. All Five of these little ones are being raised by Godly Christian parents who plan to homeschool, though of them all only my niece & her husband were actually homeschooled themselves. It should be a very interesting & developing adventure in which I plan to assist as much as possible.
I think those five girls were actually calmer than my 3 boys were before their sister was added to the equation in our early parenting years. I’m thankful that all three young moms are having a relatively easy time with motherhood & the dads are all so supportive in so many ways….Whew…so far!

Lillian is actually a very energetic & outgoing baby/toddler. Once she settled into the new event she got up to some very loud, funny vocalizing compared to her cousins. She’s not really having many words yet & she’s on the cusp of walking. Lately she’s such a happy little one whenever we’ve seen her that it’s really been a treat, for neither my husband nor I are exactly baby people LOL I get to watch her later today while my daughter has a dentist appointment & that will take some energy to keep up with her many explorations of her home environment 🙂

Yeah, I have been cutting down trees, putting in fence, and washing very itchy ponies. Today my allergies are so bad I am staying inside.
i have developed allergy symptoms as i got older and i found the walmart brand of allergy relief actually works best for me. what’s really weird is the stuff that works the best is expired. the new stuff? puts me to sleep or overdries my sinuses.
I rotate thru several types. I am now taking Wally Marts, Loratadine.
It is having about 5 acres of Abrussi Rye, growing faster than my ponies can eat it that is the problem. It is going to seed and I am VERY allergic to the darn stuff.
We need to mow AGAIN. 🙄 But hubby does not have the balance to walk down the paddocks and open all the wire gates.
We use 4 wires instead of just one so they are time consuming to open and close. Especially when you have to hang the wires up so the mower does not catch them. I need to do a bit more engineering to make it easier and faster. The opening is around 16 feet wide but the next fence post is about 25 feet away.🙄

They are a continuous source of red meat for conservatives. Some stories are better sourced than others. They do however need to be dabbed in salt now and then. Some of their reporters seem a bit lazy when it comes to all the facts, but generally trustworthy if you want a conservative MAGA slant. Ditto with most conservative outlets.

My method was always to tell the kids to go play outside but by the time the 2 younger grands came along…you would think playing outside was like pinning a kidnap me sign on their clothes. The gaming became the alternative much of the time and gram’s ways were not the way it was going to go.
i only have the one grandchild…and whenever she spent time with grandma and grandpa, we’d bake or do crafts. now she loves to cook and bake and loves to paint.

I was a gma very early on, a little over 40. The oldest had much more freedom to run the neighborhood, learn to make decisions, along the ways probably most of us grew up. By the time the other 2 (10yrs later) came the world had changed a bit.. kids were sort of corralled in “safe” situations like daycare and playgroups as opposed to learning about the world by being in the world.
They’re all great kids and have learned to maneuver the things life throws at them so I guess all is well despite the younger ones not being free range kids.
my granddaughter is a farm kid…she has the best kind of free range!
That’s a great way to be brought up I bet. The way things are today sure makes that lifestyle seem like a healthy mind and soul way to go.

Thank you for these. It’s sometimes very hard to forgive and forget. The human sub-conscious, being the “constant and eternal repository” of everything in the memory, will keep bringing up hurtful, negative, awful events / people / situations, that have happened in one’s life. The forgive part can be achieved; it’s the forget part that’s difficult because of the actions of the sub-conscious.
Isaiah 43:17 says, “Forget about the former things. Do not dwell on the past;” The sub-conscious mind, with that “repository”, will “link” a present moment / action / situation, with something negative that happened in the past. That “linkage” is what needs to be recognized the instant it occurs, then stopped completely. It’s an ongoing process.
On the other hand, what about the dreadful people who brought about the COVID-19 disaster — Fauci, Bourla, Baric, and the rest? Does one forgive and forget what they have done, and continue to do, to humankind? Where does justice fit in?
I went over this a while back.

True repentance ALWAYS has a depth of love for the LORD where sins are freely admitted and sorrow has no face-saving limits.
Gail, I have (as you may have guessed) a different perspective on forgiveness. I think many people equate the forgiveness of God with the forgiveness of some person against another person. I do not believe they are always the same. They may be in the same genus but not necessarily the same species. Forgiveness from God will come without prerequisite on occasion. The same can be said for certain people who forgive with no preconditions. In most cases people, being who and what they are, usually require some token of remorse to forgive but that is not always the case. I do think that to be genuine, forgiveness must come from a changed heart or a person’s unique perspective. That comes usually from an intervention by God but not always.
I am probably not getting the idea across well.
Recent example: Someone steals from you. They say they are sorry (not meaning it) and you forgive them. They then USE THAT FORGIVENESS to steal from you on an even more massive scale.
It is obvious there was no real remorse so should you forgive them again or show them the door?
Wife beaters pull the same type of stunt and even extend the abuse to the children. As the wife, do you keep crawling back or do you show some spine and remove yourself and your children from your abuser?

That is an example of where I think our language betrays us. Forgiveness is not the same as exoneration. In a just human society Fauci, along with the thousands of abortion providers (just to name one co-defendant) would have to answer for their crimes. No forgiveness is required in such instances; only judgment. A person, even a Christian, is not required to forgive criminal behavior. As it turns out even the Almighty withholds forgiveness out of a necessity to affirm justice.
I am glad we are in agreement. I think this is an area the Communists have exploited to the max so it is something Christians really have to think hard about. It is especially difficult when it is family.
I learned the hard way, I just had to walk away from my sociopathic brother.
I think it is possible to forgive someone who has wronged you, like an abuser, but to Also maintain healthy boundaries that don’t allow for the circumstances for abuse to “easily” arise again. The forgiveness may mean not holding the abuser’s behavior against them going forward, but if the abuser continues to abuse then cutting off the relationship may be the heathiest approach. You Can walk in forgiveness AND establish healthy boundaries, but this is not easy to do & requires wisdom, discernment, & guidance from the Lord.
The seventy times seven discussion is in scripture for a reason…not that I claim to fully understand the principle.

I can’t imagine any adult not understanding the impact of their various school policies. We didn’t have such things to deal with until a few years ago. They know very well how it has been and the current effects of their policies. They know and they do it on purpose, as you said. What talking before school boards does is show them that we know, and it alerts some people who didn’t realize what was going on, but the school boards absolutely KNOW. They need to be removed.

They’re clearly intending to deprive him of SS security inside prison too.
Even so, he would be the safest man in prison.
He has more money than maybe anyone who has ever been in prison, and money will buy him plenty of security in prison. He could easily afford to pay an entire cell block to guard him, and they would do it gladly, to keep the hefty paychecks coming.
He could afford to pay everyone in the whole prison, including the guards and the warden.
So here they are at Mar-a-Lago. Is the whole deal here just trying to hold onto that one vote majority through the election? Otherwise they’ll try to keep Trump from being inaugurated?
This is a serious bad look.
THIS congress does not matter for purposes of certifying the election.
It is the NEXT congress that will do so. So the inauguration isn’t the issue.
On the other hand, THIS congress could declare Trump engaged in insurrection and engage the 14th amendment on him, which wouldn’t just prevent the inauguration but would prevent his candidacy.
That’s the real hazard at play here, and worry about Congress not certifying his election is misplaced.
True the new Congress begins on Jan 3rd and electoral votes are counted on Jan 6.
Although Republicans took the House and almost the Senate, with all Republicans riding into office on Trump’s coattails it seemed to not have enough impact in the divisive electoral college count. This was when it took one representative to raise an objection and one senator to back the objection. Now the rule has been raised to 20% of both the House and the Senate to make the objection on a States electoral votes. A very much higher bar.
What effect Dems being in charge of the House just prior to the Electoral Vote count is held can’t be accurately determined, but all investigative and auditory powers of the House will be turned against a positive outcome for Trump should that matter. Further we’ll see another attempt to declare an insurrection made at the earliest possible time with the most shrill of voices if Dems hold the House prior to the Electoral Vote count.
That said, it matters very much who controls the House as the Demons will be tossing everything in their power to thwart Trump and we’ll need everything we can get to be able to overcome them.
The criminals in Congress are the ones who ought to be worried.
Yes, I believe the second part of your comment is what I’m referring to. So sucking up to Johnson is supposed fend off further pre-election resignations? I understand your explanation. But if the uniparty goal is making sure Trump never sits at the desk again, this changes nothing.

The same young adults who navigate getting a driver’s license, applying for jobs, applying for and attending college, joining the military, etc., just can’t figure out how to get to the polls, even when there is early voting. They live on the internet every day, but they don’t know how to locate their polling place. 😢
Another positive aspect is that it will apply to some other states as well.
