Just a friendly reminder Speaker Johnson. You’re doing some good things–or at least trying in the case of the budget–but this is the most important thing out there still hanging. One initial block released with the promise of more…and?
We have American patriots being held without bail and without trial, and the tapes almost certainly contain exculpatory evidence. (And if they don’t, and we’re all just yelling in an echo chamber over here, we need to know that too. And there’s only one way to know.)
Either we have a weaponized, corrupt government or we have a lot of internet charlatans. Let’s expose whatever it is. (I’m betting it’s the corrupt weaponized government, but if I am wrong, I’d like to see proof.)
Justice Must Be Done.
The prior election must be acknowledged as fraudulent, and steps must be taken to prosecute the fraudsters and restore integrity to the system.
Nothing else matters at this point. Talking about trying again in 2022 or 2024 is hopeless otherwise. Which is not to say one must never talk about this, but rather that one must account for this in ones planning; if fixing the fraud is not part of the plan, you have no plan.
Small Government?
Many times conservatives (real and fake) speak of “small government” being the goal.
This sounds good, and mostly is good, but it misses the essential point. The important thing here isn’t the size, but rather the purpose, of government. We could have a cheap, small tyranny. After all our government spends most of its revenue on payments to individuals and foreign aid, neither of which is part of the tyrannical apparatus trying to keep us locked down and censored. What parts of the government would be necessary for a tyranny? It’d be a lot smaller than what we have now. We could shrink the government and nevertheless find it more tyrannical than it is today.
No, what we want is a limited government, limited not in size, but rather in scope. Limited, that is, in what it’s allowed to do. Under current circumstances, such a government would also be much smaller, but that’s a side effect. If we were in a World War II sort of war, an existential fight against nasty dictatorships on the brink of world conquest, that would be very expensive and would require a gargantuan government, but that would be what the government should be doing. That would be a large, but still limited government, since it’d be working to protect our rights.
World War II would have been the wrong time to squawk about “small government,” but it wasn’t (and never is) a bad time to demand limited government. Today would be a better time to ask for a small government–at least the job it should be doing is small today–but it misses the essential point; we want government to not do certain things. Many of those things we don’t want it doing are expensive but many of them are quite eminently doable by a smaller government than the one we have today. Small, but still exceeding proper limits.
So be careful what you ask for. You might get it and find you asked for the wrong thing.
Political Science In Summation
It’s really just a matter of people who can’t be happy unless they control others…versus those who want to be left alone. The oldest conflict within mankind. Government is necessary, but government attracts the assholes (a highly technical term for the control freaks).
His Truth?
Again we saw an instance of “It might be true for Billy, but it’s not true for Bob” logic this week.
I hear this often, and it’s usually harmless. As when it’s describing differing circumstances, not different facts. “Housing is unaffordable” can be true for one person, but not for another who makes ten times as much.
But sometimes the speaker means it literally. Something like 2+2=4 is asserted to be true for Billy but not for Bob. (And when it’s literal, it’s usually Bob saying it.) And in that sense, it’s nonsense, dangerous nonsense. There is ONE reality, and it exists independent of our desires and our perceptions. It would go on existing if we weren’t here. We exist in it. It does not exist in our heads. It’s not a personal construct, and it isn’t a social construct. If there were no society, reality would continue to be what it is, it wouldn’t vanish…which it would have to do, if it were a social construct.
Now what can change from person to person is the perception of reality. We see that all the time. And people will, of course, act on those perceptions. They will vote for Trump (or try to) if their perception is close to mine, and vote against Trump (and certainly succeed at doing so) if their perception is distant from mine (and therefore, if I do say so, wrong). I have heard people say “perception is reality” and usually, that’s what they’re trying to say–your perception of reality is, as far as you know, an accurate representation of reality, or you’d change it.
But I really wish they’d say it differently. And sometimes, to get back to Billy and Bob, the person who says they have different truths is really saying they have different perceptions of reality–different worldviews. I can’t argue with the latter. But I sure wish they’d say it better. That way I’d know that someone who blabbers about two different truths is delusional and not worth my time, at least not until he passes kindergarten-level metaphysics on his umpteenth attempt.

And if so, wouldn’t that depend very much on the size of the pieces of wood to be chucked? If the piece is too heavy the woodchuck will not be able to chuck it at all. And if it is too light, it becomes to easy, so the capability of the woodchuck’s chucking is underutilized and it spends too much time on finding pieces of wood to chuck, and not enough on actually chucking them There appears to be some kind of optimum point where the mass of wood being chucked is the maximum.

Regarding the car with the outside-the-trunk spare, that’s called a Continental kit. IIRC, it was factory standard on Lincoln Continental vehicles and a factory option on other GM cars [such as the Caddy in the pic].
I once saw one on a ’58 Chevy.
As for the hearse, those were probably made by yanking partially assembled cars off the assembly line and finishing the build on a specialized line.
I should have mentioned that Lincoln was a Ford car and the ones that were GM were copied from the Lincoln idea. Definitely an option on GM vehicles but very pricey so few were actually built. Also, not available on other Ford cars AFAIK.

So, this is really not my story, so I’m probably not going to tell it as well as it should be — but the Fiancee and I heard it in a crowded restaurant in Downtown Disney told by the two ladies involved, along with one’s live-in Marine friend…..
So, this friend G (the same one that taught me how to stand-off an aggressive dog [or horse]), raises a particular rare breed of horse. Due to the rarity of this type of horse, it is inconvenient to ship them around long distances for breeding — so it is largely done through artificial insemination. As the owner of several prized stallions, it falls upon her to collect the genetic material to be shipped off — and this is what pays the mortgage.
While one might imagine a fern bar, low lighting, some movies, a couple of cocktails, and music — the real world is somewhat more industrial. A suitable “female” is produced which is a well-braced, well-padded half-barrel to be the “body”, with a plastic head and neck. The “female” is sprayed with “Inhibitions-B-Gone” pheromone spray, and a towel with more pheromones half-covers the stallion’s nose.
Now, mind you, this is not something that anyone — even if they’re a linebacker for the NFL — should be doing alone. The stallion is a large animal, it is half-zonked out-of-its-mind on lust, and it’s going to be forceful in its activities. There are a lot of ways for this procedure to go awry, and it can be very dangerous. Besides the humans involved, it is also dangerous for the horse, and can lead to serious injuries.
Anyway, everyone is in their places, the “mare” is ready, the collection gear is ready, all the spritzes are spritzed and the towel is in place, the stallion gets up on the apparatus — and half-heartedly rubs and bumps and slides off.
They clean up and circle around to try again, and get the same result. This was not expected, at all.
So, on the third try, the stallion is up on top, and G turns the plastic head of the “mare” to look over “her shoulder” at him and nickers — and the stallion goes WILD!!! An ample collection is made and the horse smoothly disengages after its “happy ending.” And, back in the restaurant, G pronounces the moral of the story — “it’s not just the pheromones and the physical sensations — it’s ‘love’.”
As you might imagine, when G had finished this story, we were just rolling and teary-eyed from laughing so hard….and then we noticed that all the other tables adjacent to us were oddly quiet….
How were you taught to stand off an aggressive dog or horse?
It sounds implausible, but I’ve done it.
Both animals are looking to bite you (if the horse rears, you have other problems). This does not remotely begin to work if you have a claws/bite animal like a bear or a cat.
You hold your hands out in front of you, about a foot apart, like you’re going to clap. Then, you advance on the animal. If the dog goes for one hand, you slap the %&# out of it with the other, trying to really hurt it — eyes, ears….you can use keys.
This works because the animal cannot see both hands if they are beside its head, so it has to back up a bit to keep them both in view. It helps to grin like a fiend while you’re doing this, because then the dog will think you know what you’re doing.
I was attacked by a really vicious dog while walking in the neighborhood, and had the Fiancee behind me and was backing the dog up toward a lawn when the owner arrived to restrain it (my knees would never forgive me if I tackled it on a sidewalk). I was sort of amazed how well it worked.
Oh, it’s also why dogs hunt in packs. If attacked by two dogs, your best bet is to kill one.

They are FAST and they can take a chunk out of you! Just because they are small, doesn’t mean they can not do damage.
You want to be familiar with dogs before you try this. Maybe try part of it on a friendly dog and end with ear scritches instead of slaps.
As a correction, your hands should be more like shoulder-width than a foot. They need to be far enough apart that you can snatch your hand back if the dog turns toward it and close enough to still do a slap with the other hand.
If the dog seriously overcommits toward one hand, and you can get the back of its head, you can shove its head muzzle-first into the ground. If you’re doing any of this, you’re not playing a game — you’re avoiding serious dog attack injuries (and possibly protecting someone else, as well).

This same dog — a pit bull/German shepherd cross — had attacked one of the mail carriers whose hobby was MMA. The mailman blocked the teeth with his mailbag and kneed it in the chest so hard that it went flying, which was a different sort of attitude adjustment.

Excellent. Dogs require training, and free training is a humanitarian act.
Also, it only works on horses if you can reach its eyes. If you are really short or the horse is really tall, you need another tactic.

If a horse comes at you with the front feet he needs to be put down. My vet saw a customer get killed by his horse that way.
I had 2 colts that I had to put down for that after I had someone farm sit for a week. It later came out that she was using a steel tine pitch fork on them. They were only 4 months old.
I gave them back to the stallion owner because I though his stud had a crazy streak. He sold them for dog food.

It really was. I spent every day of those four months working with those colts. You could lead them, pick up their feet, run your hands or a brush all over them. They had learned not to be afraid of flappy things…

Another caveat — total concentration is necessary. If the dog actually catches your hand, it can be “game over” and you will likely be mauled. Also, if you trip and fall, you may actually be killed.
On the other hand, I have done this. I was caught in the middle of the street with the Fiancee when charged by a vicious dog and managed to defend myself and the Fiancee while moving the dog backwards toward a lawn.
The test of truth is experiment. The technique must have some virtue!
I’ve been told, no idea if it’s true, that if you can concentrate enough to withstand the pain if a dog gets your hand, that you can snap it’s jaw right off if you yank down and back towards it’s neck hard really hard.

Any way a friend leased a stallion to breed to her mares. On go day, we take them both into the indoor arena for the event.
Unfortunately this stallion was a real SOB. If he did not ‘connect’ once he was up on the mare he would get off, whip around ant kick the crap out of the mare. So it was my job to get the mare OUT of the danger zone ASAP!!
There were only the two of use to handle the situation and both of us are not exactly big.

A high-ranking official with the New York Police Department said protesters had weapons including knives and hammers as well as pamphlets with “Death to America!” written on them.
Michael Kemper, a NYPD’s chief of transit, posted photos Friday of what police confiscated from the protesters.

Over the many years I’ve lived in this area, I’ve interacted with quite a few persons who have attended KU. I’ve found precious few of them to be what I would deem highly educated. Most of them seem to have majored in Power Drinking and worshipping a mythical creature called a Jayhawk.
I learned of the events in Lawrence via a local radio morning talk show. Via telephone, the host interviewed a young woman who attended KU and who, although not part of the demonstration, described the encampment and its denizens. One aspect of her remarks dealt with how well-organized and well-prepared these anti-Israel, anti-American, pro-terrorism “protestors” appeared to be.
The part that leaped out at me was when she spoke of the demonstrators having “numbers on their arms, apparently drawn with a Sharpie.” These numbers were, ostensibly, the phone numbers of lawyers and/or bondsmen for the demonstrators to call in the event of arrest.
Now, I already knew that progressives in general and wokesters in particular tend to be irony-challenged. I’ve even written about the phenomenon in these very pages (e.g., here). But the notion of the very people chanting “Death to the Jews” and “Death to Israel” sporting numbers on their arms seemed like an irony that was too hard—and far too obvious—to ignore. If more proof were needed that Leftists are blind to irony, this was certainly it.

Carl, based on what PGroup said about laughter I’m reminded of church friends whose husband/father was fading away with dementia. One time they were playing & singing old hymns with him, something he’d loved in the past, & for a time it was like he was his old self. Whatever your wife loves/loved perhaps bathing in those joys will remind her of who she was/is & help to keep her tethered to herself & to you & your family…just a thought 🙂

i don’t believe ANY of the cases against President Trump will be resolved– he is found innocent or acquitted whatever the case may be. it serves the left far more to have those cases dismissed due to various technicalities or errors. that way those issues can be repeatedly used as talking points–as in he wasn’t found INNOCENT…the cases had to be dismissed…we will never know…so he can’t be exonerated kind of thing.

It’s a BIG DEAL if a medical doctor’s license to practice is revoked (as compared to “restricted”) — if a license to practice medicine is revoked, the physician CANNOT treat patients or prescribe medicines. They can still call themselves doctors, but that’s it. In the case of license revocation, the physician must wait a period of time (up to 3 years) to petition to have the license reinstated.
THIS is why it’s wonderful that Dr. Sherry Tenpenny’s medical license was reinstated.
Allow me to add that petitions for license reinstatement usually require some admission that the licensee was wrong [IOW the license was yanked for good reason]. At least, that is the way it is for attorneys. It’s a cute trick designed to shield the licensing agency for being sued for malicious [bad faith] action against the licensee.
It’s just another form of lawfare.

I know this from trying to stargaze off of ships. You might think you’re far away from light pollution but the ship turns on a shitload of lights and you’re effectively blinded.

Other than red lights on wings and the like, I had guessed exterior lights off.
Interior darkened if not meal/snack time. Shades usually down on night flights.
And if that’s what they actually do, it will be fine.

In one case I was at least able to talk the crew of the boat into turning off the lights on my end of it, so I got to see some southern skies. But a lot of what I wanted to see was on the other end and nothing to be done about it.

As for night, there don’t appear to be many exterior lights on the plane (or any reason for there to be), beyond maybe red and green lights at the wing tips for port and starboard.
Agreed daytime would be fantastic. Either on a clear day or one where there were a lot of clouds (safely in the distance; you do NOT ever want to fly through a thunderhead).
It will just lead to fights with other passengers who want to see but can’t afford it, causing the plane to make emergency landings all the time.
And they would need to biologically disinfect everything after each flight, because people would use the opportunity to be in the “Sodom & Gomorrah Sky Club”.
