Those who believe certain theories would do better to stop erecting straw men that they can knock down, that have nothing to do with people’s actual objections. Here’s what I mean, from an X post in the open.

To my knowledge, no one has said that the existence of lifelike disguises is a conspiracy theory. So there’s the straw man.

And…so what? What is that supposed to prove? It does not prove that someone can become someone else and fool those who know them well, up close and personal. That’s the issue, which “Jessica” conveniently ignores.
In my experience, those propounding such theories do not do so with honesty and will ignore whatever evidence proves them wrong.
I’d appreciate knowing the specifics of your experiences with the folks you say are dishonest in suggesting public officials use masks as part of body doubles. Why do you think they’re intentionally dishonest? What’s the best evidence you’ve seen that proves public figures don’t use the masked body doubles?
I’m on the fence about much of what I’ve seen. The realistic masks and some practicalities for employing doubles seem plausible to me. On the other hand, I find it really telling that we never hear about voice analysis … surely there would be ways to record and compare those suspected of being doubles with the voice of the real person. Isn’t voice analysis currently accurate enough to be admissible in court ie credible?
On a lighter note, I love the Trump, Kamala & other comedic impersonators as well as those like Conservative Momma. They have a skill (talent?) I find both creative and effective.
I’m not saying that public officials never use masked body doubles. Public officials have even been known to use body doubles that were not masked, just people that resembled them, from a distance. QEII had a woman who was photographed as her from a distance. I’m saying that a masked body double, even if the mask is perfect, would not fool people who know the person well because there are so many other factors involved, like height, weight, gait, shape of hands, length and style and color of hair (which would never change unless there were multiple masks), speech patterns, timbre of voice, body of knowledge, mannerisms, etc.
If you will, consider your own circumstances. (I’m “giving” you a relative that you might not have, just as an example, so you can substitute anyone who would be appropriate.) Would you be fooled if, say, someone wearing a mask that looked just like your sister came to visit? Do you not think you would spot differences within a few seconds of talking with that person, even if they looked just like her?
I don’t know about voice analysis being accepted in court, but I do know that, in the example I gave above, you would know in an instant if someone was trying to talk like your sister. There’s no way they could have exactly the same pitch, timbre, speech patterns, and body of knowledge that she has. There are details about her life that you would know that a body double would have no way of knowing.
Theories about Biden and body doubles abound. I have said that it wouldn’t surprise me if someone had pretended to be him riding a bicycle with a mask and a helmet. But he has been in D.C. for decades, and there are people that know him very well. I maintain that it’s impossible for an imposter to be assuming Biden’s identity and fooling people that know him.

I will add that people say that a certain number of insiders could be in the know if a body double had taken the place of Biden. My answer to that is how many? Jill and Kamala, of course. Then there are all the members of Congress who have seen enough of Biden to recognize an imposter, office staff, kitchen staff, janitorial staff, foreign dignitaries who know Biden, Secret Service officers, members of the media who have covered Biden for years, and a host of other people that I can’t name because I don’t know enough about the inner workings of the White House. How many people from each of those groups would have to be in on the ruse?
All of them? Seriously though it doesn’t matter how many. What matters is … can they be convinced that the country needs the charade in order to prevent a disaster?
If so, then they all will agree to go along with it.

But most people won’t even look at those. IMO, that is not a good thing. It does not help us to know our enemy and to be able to make appropriate countermoves. It makes us stop, cold, at “it could happen.” If how it could happen is never considered, then we are at a distinct disadvantage.

Thanks for asking. IMO, when arguments are presented that are logical and sound, but people refuse to acknowledge or accept them, or even to discuss them, and persist in doing what the author of that X post did, that’s dishonesty.
I think it is dishonest to say that people think realistic masks are a conspiracy theory. As I said in my original comment, I don’t know of anyone who has argued against the existence of realistic masks.
I believe that the way that X post was presented was a ruse to get people to believe a body double can take the place of a person and succeed in fooling those who know that person well, up close and personal, in work and social situations. (Specifically, I believe its purpose was to get people to believe that a body double has taken Biden’s place.) But that isn’t what was presented in the video. GHWBush only thought the mask represented a real person that he did not know. In no way does it indicate that he, or anyone else, would have been fooled into thinking a person wearing a realistic mask was someone he knew well. So that is dishonest.
I’ve brought up all the issues I’ve raised here countless times before. I haven’t addressed “Jessica” herself, but I bet that if I did, she would ignore the arguments because she wants to believe what she wants to believe. It happens over and over. Objections are raised to the premise, those objections are ignored, and the premise keeps getting raised. It’s as if someone, or some group, is trying to convince people of something. They are relentless. And IMO, a lot of it makes us look bad, and even stupid. So I don’t see it as a positive. It makes me question the motives of the people pushing these things.

There are two primary tools for working metal — the mill and the lathe. Although you often bolt the work to a table and move it, the mill is conceived as a spinning tool that is applied to a fixed workpiece. By contrast, a lathe spins the workpiece and applies fixed tools to it.

Spatial reasoning is a key part to being a machinist, but it’s not just born….it must be trained.

This is similar to the distinction between a backhoe and a steamshovel. Hoes bite in from the top and are drawn toward the machine; shovels are pushed in from the machine and lifted.

This morning Hubby mentioned how glad he is to be here in NC and MISSING Black Fly Season.

A friend sells Avon and used to mail the Avon green cans of bug spray to her SIL who was in the military in the middle east.
Skin so soft was the ONLY thing that worked. I swear a black fly is nothing but a mouth with wings.
I had one bite on my hand that had a red streak going almost to the elbow. I kept wet compresses with baking soda on it and PRAYED. The streak went away by night fall thank goodness.
I used to sell Avon & that bug repelling effect of Skin So Soft was known then, like 30 years ago 🙂

I believe that the swarms of black flies are obnoxious but I don’t believe that their bites are noticeable except for the blood spots they leave. Mosquitoes are worse in the sound & the bite plus the ceaseless itching afterwards. Both of these insects, & more, are why hubby usually does his backpacking adventures in Spring or Fall since the Summer bugs are beyond tedious. Lately the Northwoods of Michigan have also had excessive tick infestations which make outdoor excursions even more risky given so many tick-borne diseases 🙁
The black fly bites I got were bloody holes and swelled up much worse that mosquitoes. Mine also had a tendency to get infected.
Although as I said I am VERY allergic.

Baking soda is your friend. I use a wet compress (kleenex + saran wrap + tape) If I have a bad bug bite. It seems to draw out the ‘poison’ in a few hours.
DO NOT USE ON CHIGGER BITES. It makes them a lot worse.

One of the comments on Amazon said it was bitter and to drink it with mint or other pleasant flavored herbal teas. Do you have any recommendations?
Elecampane really is quite bitter. If you can tolerate it, I like locally-produced honey in my tea. If not, you could mix it with mint tea. Or hibiscus flower or chamomile. I hope you find it as amazing as I do. It should suppress that tickle, and will also help expel any remaining gunk in your lungs.

Both my dad & my husband are Eagle Scouts. None of our 3 sons were involved in Boy Scouts because of how far they had already slidden from their roots even then. For my dad scouting allowed a city boy to have many adventures in the outdoors & prepared him in numerous ways for adult life. For my husband the mentorship of father figures was vital after his parents divorced when he was a very young boy. He recently said that 4 of the 6 key male mentors in his life were through scouting.

This is my impression, and people can correct me if I’m mistaken.
I think the jury does have the authority to judge the law as being wrong, as you say. I also think there might be nuances about the letter of the law. For example, it is clearly wrong to steal. If a jury is considering a case of a person who stole to feed their starving children, they might not decide the case according to the letter of the law but according to common sense and mercy.
Going by the letter of the law, a jury would have to find the person guilty, no matter what the circumstances. But if they didn’t apply the letter of the law in that case, it wouldn’t necessarily mean the law was wrong; it would just mean that the jury found in that case that the law did not have to apply literally, as written.
But there are probably other cases where laws are universally bad and should be nullified.
From what I could determine, a jury could find that a law was unconstitutional or unjust.
The reparations idea for example could be considered a bill of attainder since currently living people are accused of a crime -slavery- and fined WITHOUT a trial proving the crime.
A person brought up on gun possession charges who has done no other crime is another example. The jury could find the law unconstitutional.
In the case of stealing to feed a child, the jury could ask the judge for leniency.
Would that nullify the law universally, or only in that case?
The jury could come back with a not guilty verdict, and the judge would have nothing to do with it.
Answering my own question, no, a jury can’t nullify a law. It can only determine that it won’t apply the law in a particular case.

I found some information that I posted under one of Gail’s comments, and yes, the nullification only applies to the specific case.
I think of it like this;
If I am on a jury, and the prosecution “proved their case” against the defendant for breaking some law, but I see the circumstances as mitigating, or the law as bullshit, I’m voting NOT guilty. No matter what.
So I can try to convince the other jurors to vote not guilty, too. If they agree and we all say “not guilty,” we nullified the law. But even IF they won’t go my way and say not guilty, I can still hold out forever, causing a mistrial. Therein nullifying the law, at least for the moment.
There could be a retrial, of course, so the best case scenario is when the entire jury agrees.

Trump Defense asking about the story Stormy Daniels told on the Anderson Cooper show about her being allegedly threatened in 2011.
Defense gets out that she never told this story for 7 years publicly, or even to her husband. Even though the life of her child was allegedly threatened.

He has been doing this for nearly 50 years now, since before I became interested in stereo equipment and record albums in the late 1970s or early 1980s.

I don’t want to admit how many vinyl records I have! Wife wants me to clear them out. NO!!! Maybe when I’m gone, but NOT NOW. Yea, I do have a lot of originals … from my time, plus parents (WWII) at 78!
We HAD a lot of them too then Dad stored them in the ATTIC…
Originals in nice condition could be worth good money these days. If you don’t listen to them anymore and were thinking of getting rid of them, I would have a few local record dealers come out to take a look, give you an appraisal and see how much they would give you for the collection 👍
I definitely wouldn’t just throw them out. There has been a resurgence in vinyl LP interest in recent years, and originals are always in demand 😁
When my son died my daughter and I held onto his collection like a touchstone but I finally realized people like him who loved music like he did would get the same thrill of finding some obscure record or a demo from one of the greats in the genres he liked. Soul, rhythm, blues, funk, hip hop, some classic rock, Johnny Cash early stuff.
I sold about half of it and gave the same guy the rest. Thousands of them. It felt good actually.

As a record hunter/collector myself, I am sure the people who bought those records were happy to find them, and will enjoy them for many years, before they hopefully get passed along to a new generation to enjoy.
