There is this one guy who keeps talking about “the Law of the Sea”, I believe, & how it’s connected to the bar…strange stuff & possibly a clue about our ubiquitous shackles… 🙄
“Law of the Sea” is also sometimes called “Maritime Law” or “Admiralty Law”, which is wildly different from what most people know, which is “Law of the Land”.
On the high seas, the Captain is the Law, what you find you keep (salvage), and there’s no one to call for help, so might makes right, etc.
What many people who talk about these things assert (and appears to be true) is that the Law of the Land has been supplanted or replaced, over time, with the Law of the Sea (i.e., the Law of the Sea is being used on the Land).
There are all kinds of parallels and nautical terms that have been (improperly) established on the Land, and comparisons like a ship at dock is in a ‘berth’, which is then compared to a baby in the ‘birth canal’ and receiving a ‘birth certificate’ when we are born.
It’s a deep rabbit hole, and fascinating like most such rabbit holes are.

The school apparently suspected some kind of foul play on the dad’s part. The police told him the school was the caregiver whle the boy was there, and the dad said he was the one in charge of his son. It turns out the boy just had a cold and no signs of foul play.
The police seemed to side with the school, so the dad couldn’t call or rely on them. So what recourse did he have? I wondered if calling a lawyer would have been a good idea (but it might have been an expense he wouldn’t want to incur). Also, maybe call a news station.
Alternatively, what if the boy had been abused or poisoned at the hands of the dad? What would be the proper way to handle that situation?

The proper thing to do the moment the father has custody of his child, is to never let him inside that building again.

From what the father said, there was depression due to multiple deaths in the family. That info WAS READILY AVAILABLE to the cops and school via the child or father.
The boy had ALREADY been in the hospital for allergies/sickness. THAT MEANS A DOCTOR’S EXCUSE WENT TO THE SCHOOL.
Unless there were other DOCUMENTED habitual signs of abuse, that school is in DEEP KIMSHE!
The way for parents to handle this situation is the way I handled my kids and my grand-kids being in school; be very, very present and get to know everybody in the school from day one.
There is not a single staff person in my kids schools who doesn’t know who I am. They are also afraid of me, apparently. I worked a stint as a volunteer one year and the principal told me once that the teachers were afraid to see me coming. I laughed and asked why, since I was unfailingly polite, never raised my voice or swore at them like some did. I just stated what I would accept from them, and what I would not. He said that was the problem. With the attackers, they could call him or some other authority and eject them from the school!
In another case, my daughter was being bullied by this one girl. I mean actually beat on some days. The school was doing nothing to stop her. So I met with the principal and told him that I intended to get a restraining order against the girl for my daughter if it happened again, and they could then figure out how to deal with it, and keep her 100 yards away from my child. Magically, she never touched my daughter again.
If they know you, and they know from the jump that you will not tolerate their bullshit for one minute, they will not mess with you or your children. But too many parents just let the school have their kid without any influence from them. Even my grand-kid’s school knows me, and knows that if you fuck around, you’ll find out.

Valerie had asked where I had been on Saturday night, and I belatedly replied that I was at the monthly meeting of The Pacific Coast Cichlid Association, where we had a presentation from David Snell that was titled “Exploring the Rio Tapiche: Collecting, Community & Clinics”.
The plan for this expedition was to head up the Rio Tapiche to a conservation station recently ceded to Project Amazonas ( https://www.projectamazonas.org/news ). Ideally, they would have spent five days refurbing and enhancing the property after journeying to it on the good ship Esperanza (“Hope”). Unfortunately, the Esperanza ran aground somewhat short of their destination (it being the dry season), so they had to basically run supplies to the camp in a small boat and come immediately back — with a 4-5 hour kidney-crushing ride each way.

JUST IN: Michael Cohen has just implicated himself, and not Donald Trump, during his latest line of questioning. While being questioned about his communication with National Enquirer boss David Pecker he says “depending on the conversation we figured it’d be best to remain confidential.” This is why Cohen and Pecker used the app “signal.” They apparently decided this themselves and Trump had nothing to do with that. It’s obvious Cohen made a lot of decision on his own and now wants to blame Trump. Will he be prosecuted after this? Not likely, given the fact that he signed an agreement with the prosecution.
Seriously, folks. If you have not read Joe’s work from the beginning, you need to. Some good intel with evidence to back it up in each one.
As a side note, I always wondered why Mike Pompeo would have that big of ego that he would run for POTUS knowing that he had zero shot of getting the nod against PDT. Now it makes sense – continue the diversion.

Always enjoys the spin off stories derived from Homer, from which there are many. The Aeneid by Virgil the most famous and one of most perfectly formed books ever written, unless one looks at some further east. Of recent note has been “Circe” by Madeline Miller a spin off from “the Oddessy” and “The Silence of the Girls” from Pat Barker a spin off from “the Illiad”. Both quite good.

Something like the Aneid is hard to read until you get warmed to the old prose which is perfectly symmetrical, the other two are fairly quick reads.
I read it back in HS but don’t recall much now 🙁
Adds… “Silence of Girls” was one of my first E books. Not of fan of Kindle but if one is going to use Kindle, it’s good for those kind of stories you don’t have to flip back to pages too often.
