A Caution
Just remember…we might replace the RINO candidates. (Or we might not. The record is mixed even though there is more MAGA than there used to be.) But that will make no difference in the long run if the party officials, basically the Rhonna McDaniels (or however that’s spelled–I suspect it’s RINO), don’t get replaced.
State party chairs, vice chairs, secretaries and so on, and the same at county levels, have huge influence on who ultimately gets nominated, and if these party wheelhorses are RINOs, they will work tirelessly to put their own pukey people on the ballot. In fact I’d not be surprised if some of our “MAGA” candidates are in fact, RINO plants, encouraged to run by the RINO party leadership when they realized that Lyn Cheney (and her ilk) were hopelessly compromised as effective candidates. The best way for them to deal with the opposition, of course, is to run it themselves.
Running good candidates is only HALF of the battle!

I’ve spent the last couple of years pounding home the message that RINO McDaniels was a symptom of a problem…a party shot through with RINO officials. In this instance it was the hundred or so members of the RNC who gleefully voted for her again, and again, and again.

What’s even better is that oxygen thief was apparently boiling mad at how poorly she did in the vote (according to a MAGA candidate for a county office I spoke to on Tuesday night). Apparently she felt entitled to her office no matter what the rubes thing…and that attitude turns people into RINOs.
Judging from the number of comments received few noticed or cared about the post, but nonetheless I noticed a pattern: Hardly anyone who regularly puts forth “devolution” or “this is all a movie” theories (or any other variant of the idea that Trump and/or his allies are really in charge) seemed to care about it. I described successful action against the enemy and they didn’t care.
I submit that that is the desired effect of such ideas as devolution…to get people on our side not to care, not to participate, not to fight, because they believe someone else will do it for them. “Nothing can stop what is coming?” Great! I don’t have to lift a finger, just be ready to microwave some popcorn!
If any of you really are thinking like this, you might as well be controlled opposition. You’re doing exactly what the other side wants you to do, sitting on your hands waiting for deliverance by deus ex machina.

They recovered a tiny amount on Friday (platinum actually did best, going up $9) except for palladium which dropped $7 that day. Who knows, maybe platinum will remain above palladium for the foreseeable future.

I’m not seeing an easy way out of this.
On that particular issue, of Trump talking about lethal force, it’s too late. Everyone is talking about it, and they’re not going to stop. Maybe Trump will read some of their statements like he’s been doing about other matters they’re tried to muzzle him about. 😎
But in the bigger picture, I don’t see a way out for Trump either. I have said from the beginning that I will not be surprised if he is convicted of something. I think a conviction would bring more minority voters out of the woodwork because they can identify with oppression and wrongful conviction.
The optics of locking Trump up would be terrible for the Left. They are either so desperate that they are continuing to implement their plan even though it is backfiring bigly, with Trump becoming more popular, or they think “righteous” people would not vote for a “convicted felon,” or they know they have a foolproof method of cheating to defeat Trump. If he were convicted and incarcerated with a Dem in the White House, that would be extremely dangerous.
I’m guessing there would be appeals before incarceration, though. So Dems must be playing the “people won’t vote for a convicted felon” card.
I think DJT wants them to throw him in that briar patch.

You’re paying interest accrued on the amount you still owe. Whoever it is that is ultimately the lender (it might not be the bank, because they often sell the debt to investors) wants to see a constant rate of return on whatever money they don’t have, because it has been lent out. If the interest were spread out evenly then the first part of the loan would earn low interest, but that last monthly payment might will have interest over a hundred percent.
I actually find ways to blunt the impact of this, if I’m ever in a situation where I am borrowing. For one, I won’t ever borrow with a pre-payment penalty. Then I will make a constant principal payment. I figure out how much the interest was, and add it to my constant amount. I pay that much. (My credit union is actually readily able to tell me exactly how much interest I’ve accrued since the last time.)
When it’s a mortgage, sometimes you can cut months off the term of the thing by paying a couple of hundred extra dollars in the first month. You’ve paid three months principal, the loan will actually end two months early. Repeat that same amount, and the thirty year monster can become a seventeen year monster. If you create a loan amortization spreadsheet and commit to tripling the principal for as long as you can manage it, of course you end up paying a gradually increasing amount every month, but you can make it a ten year mortgage (and think of all the interest income the bastards thought they were going to get, but didn’t). (And yes you often can manage to increase what you pay, if you have a steady job that gets raises.)

Following the trail eventually leads to a page where this guy claims that neutrons are built out of 1824 “dipoles” consisting of electrons and positively-charged muons. Which is absurd because a) muons are way too massive to need 1824 of them to make a proton and b) they have the wrong charge anyway and c) they’re unstable.
A proton? One less dipole. Not one less electron, but one less dipole, which would still have left you with a neutral particle even leaving aside how wrong the neutron model is.
Any of that should have sunk this guy’s credibility when I pointed it out, yet Valerie persisted in ascribing some value to his stuff, until Coothie intervened.

I had never heard of the guy, and I can’t bear to watch or listen to him. The fact that people are paying attention to him says a lot about the failure of our education system, both in teaching math and in teaching how to think.
The last video starts with this:

Somewhere along the way, discernment has been lost. Yes, weird things do happen and people and governments do conspire against one another, but there is a detrimental lack of judgment in so many people today. I think it is partly attributable to the denial of universal truths, which makes people doubt their own judgment as well as science. If men can be women, then what other anomalies can happen that we used to think were impossible? So chaos reigns and common sense is out the window, even with those who are clear on male/female biology but want to be part of the crowd that “sees” things that others supposedly don’t. Later in the video, he says: “[Terrence Howard] is able to mislead people who want to believe something different…”
Later on (roughly 14 minutes in) he cites people who say “yeah that bit about remembering being in the womb was strange, but he was totally right about everything else.” He points out that that alone should completely discredit Howard, yet people still lap up his other nonsense.
A perfect example of this yesterday; Valerie found some site with a guy whose understanding of subatomic physics is…well, it’s not understanding. I’d point out stupid thing after stupid thing this guy was saying and yet Valerie kept insisting this guy was right about something.
A total waste of my time.
I share this guy’s frustration, and I am sick and tired of people continuing to trust sources and people who should have been discredited. I am on the point of simply walking away from this site.

People being people, there will be things about even your most beloved that will sometimes set your teeth on edge. I mentioned the Fiancee’s inability to tell left from right, for instance — sends me right up the wall whenever we go anywhere…..so I mostly drive. On our way back from Palm Springs she offered to drive when we stopped-off for a slice of truck stop pizza….and I was back behind the wheel in 30 minutes.
I happen to be quite fond of our group here (though I miss several who do not visit as often as they once did), but I’d be lying if I said that I hadn’t been irritated by practically every one of them a time or two.
I don’t let it get to me, and the impulse soon passes.

The assumption that there had to be a “science explanation” because he used “science words” was very frustrating to me.
That’s how I came up with the example of “you add shortening to make the biscuits rise.” It uses “baking words” but there is no “baking explanation” available.
To some extent, you were a victim of your own success — you produced a series of beautiful pellucid explanations of “science words” and their concepts, so you were seen as being able to weave his “science words” into something that would make sense.
Alas, there was no sense to be had in his material.
But that’s exactly what I was trying to say. Yet. every time I brought up a stupidity, she was stuck on how nice the diagrams are and he had to be on to something.
If I’d tried to argue the “science words”, it would have gone the same way. By using “baking words”, I could show the workings of the snare.

Uh…an earthquake following an eclipse about two centuries ago doesn’t establish any sort of causality.
Maybe in some people’s minds…but in fact, no. And I tried to argue against this as well. There’s no new force during an eclipse and the combined tides would look indistinguishable from any new moon.
Not only an excellent argument, but the idea that a solar eclipse is basically a particular new moon is very explanatory of what an eclipse actually is, and how they are inherently predictable.

It is exhausting, as I well know. I’m sometimes flabbergasted at what I see here, in what people bring that they insist could be or IS true, in the sources that they trust, and in the degree to which they defend what can accurately be described as fantasy. The psychology article that I brought here the other day described in textbook fashion some of what I’ve seen and experienced. Getting that validation helped me a lot. It won’t solve the issue, but it showed me that my thinking about what I’ve observed has been accurate. It also gave a glimpse into how some people’s psyches work.
The thought keeps occurring to me that, if people’s children came home with some of the ideas I’ve seen here, most sane parents would instruct the children about how things work and lead them down avenues of common sense and truth. But now we have adults who believe outlandish things that they would never countenance in their children. It makes no sense.
IMO we need more pushback. People hold back, whether it’s because they don’t want to engage or get involved, they are being polite, or for other reasons. I’ve observed that some people are given deference and trust no matter what they say or how rude they are, and people won’t challenge them. The behavior is very interesting to watch, but yes, frustrating.

The biggest changes I think were to Starship Troopers.

Interesting. Of course it’s a site that sells gold…but with no spread (which makes one wonder how they make money…huge purchasing fees? Dragging their feet to buy until the price goes down?). The other odd aspect is they are metric selling gold by the 100 gram bar and silver by the kilogram bar and that helps overseas but not here.
I’d like to see them offer a ten gram bar, which would run (roughly) $700-800 today and would be much more accessible.
Edit: they do, but not with no buy-sell spread. It’s even possible to buy one gram bars.

As of the last time I looked (roughly 2010), any gold and silver sold was subject to the short-term capital gains rate (at the time, 28%) no matter how long you had held it. True of collectibles in general in fact. The exception was American eagle bullion coins, which would go to the long term rate the same as other things, after two years (and that rate at the time was 15%). This is why I prefer to buy that particular product when I am buying gold (which I haven’t done in a long time).
I have no idea what the law is now, whether it’s better or worse.

I haven’t kept up with the Left’s view of crypto. Are they hostile to it because they view it as a threat to the Fed’s stranglehold on the banking system?
The young Leftists I’m talking about love crypto, it’s their only shot at getting ahead in this broken kleptocracy.
But their own D-rat Party is hostile to crypto (e.g., Pocahontas, Brandon, Gary Gensler, et al).
So they’re getting an earful from all of their crypto buds that they better support Trump.
As for why the professional Left opposes crypto, it’s because the D-rats are owned by the banks and the entire fiat currency control system, and crypto is to the fiat currency system what a wooden stake is to a vampire on the sundeck of a garlic packaging plant.
It’s what the whole fight is about.
The insanely corrupt fiat currency system is the key to the political-class’ entire control matrix.
Crypto is commerce outside that corrupt system.
So professional D-rats naturally oppose crypto, on behalf of their Big Banking benefactors and other world domination control freaks (like Billy Gates, Warren Buffet, Jamie Dimon, etc.).
The professional R-cons never met a principle they were loyal to, but they love money, and there is lots of crypto money going to support Republican candidates, if for no other reason than because professional R-cons haven’t been openly abusive and hateful toward crypto.

He died in 1943. Neutrinos had been theorized in the 30s but not actually detected until the 1950s. (So he *could* have done some theoretical work, but IMHO probably not though if someone can find a good cite I’ll stand corrected.)
But Tesla was largely into electromagnetism…and neutrinos don’t pay any attention to the EM force.
If found, that would indeed be a big deal.
Part of the impetus for postulating the neutrino in the first place was that something had to balance the lepton number. An electron is created, that’s a new lepton, and so an antilepton (the anti-neutrino) would have to be created to balance it. (That’s from turning a neutron to a proton, a common event in nuclear reactors. If going the other way a positron is created, with a balancing neutrino–this happens a LOT inside the Sun).

The other two reasons for postulating neutrinos was conservation of momentum and the conservation of energy (the latter mentioned in the linked article).
A neutrino being its own antiparticle would wreck the lepton conservation but leave the other two intact. It wouldn’t be a titanic shock, honestly, to me; the lepton conservation rule was more of a thing that seemed to be true than it was “solid”.
Yes – same here. I’m good either way. IMO lepton number is an observed regularity which fronts some underlying reality where true conservation laws are observed. The “neutrinoless” double beta presumably obeys the real conservation laws – and may even still “obey” lepton number in some short-lived way that will take decades more work to clarify.
What I hope does NOT happen here, is some ambiguous result which is badly interpreted to prove one side or the other, with the wrong one being picked, and then THAT sends us on a wrong course for decades.
That’s IF it happens at all. But that’s the point of this; to find out.

Sure – quick background is this. During the Clinton years, the Democrats got very good at controlling the Libertarians – particularly on the East coast, and particularly close in to Washington (i.e., VA, New England). At first, they just used them as splitters, and quite effectively. It was instrumental in the blue takeover of VA, where they had been locked out before.
At a certain point, the Dem infiltration began promoting “LINOs” who tended to be young, stupid, contollable, fixated on drug questions (typically choomers themselves), and the nature of the party shifted.
This continued well past the millennium, to the point that the party actually took several “woke” positions in recent elections. I mean, fully woke. They had a female candidate I remember who advocated censorship.
THOSE are the “kazoo” people. They’re nothing like the old Libertarian party.and they’re not even “small L” libertarians.
My hunch is that Trump is doing things to empower the logical thinkers – the smart, classical, semi-Buckley types, who used to rule the party. Splitting the “choomers” from the “freedom brains” and empowering the latter is a smart tactic.
I was one of those. So I’d love nothing better than to see the socialists who stole the word Libertarian, shoved out with size 17 ice cleats up their asses.
