I’ve spent the last couple of years pounding home the message that RINO McDaniels was a symptom of a problem…a party shot through with RINO officials. In this instance it was the hundred or so members of the RNC who gleefully voted for her again, and again, and again.
Well I got to help take one of those hundred people down, as told here: https://www.theqtree.com/2024/04/07/i-aim-to-raise-a-ruckus/. What’s even better is that oxygen thief was apparently boiling mad at how poorly she did in the vote (according to a MAGA candidate for a county office I spoke to last Tuesday night (4/16)). Apparently she felt entitled to her office no matter what the rubes think…and that attitude turns people into RINOs.
Judging from the number of comments received few noticed or cared about the post, but nonetheless I noticed a pattern: Hardly anyone who regularly puts forth “devolution” or “this is all a movie” theories (or any other variant of the idea that Trump and/or his allies are really in charge) seemed to care about it. I described successful action against the enemy and they didn’t care.
I submit that that is the desired effect of such ideas as devolution…to get people on our side not to care, not to participate, not to fight, because they believe someone else will do it for them. “Nothing can stop what is coming?” Great! I don’t have to lift a finger, just be ready to microwave some popcorn!
If any of you really are thinking like this, you might as well be controlled opposition. You’re doing exactly what the other side wants you to do, sitting on your hands waiting for deliverance by deus ex machina.

I nabbed a couple of dozen DVDs at Rasputin ( https://www.rasputinmusic.com/ ) for a buck apiece with the intent of flinging them around my networks. Ideally, all my physical media would be stashed away somewhere safe and I’d use electronic versions for everything — CDs, DVDs, and a metric boatload of paper.
As it turns out, what most people think of as video formats are actually package formats. As an example (though not video), a PDF has pictures, text, formatting instructions, fonts, and links tucked inside. Various programs can read the pictures into readable/searchable text, if it’s not already included. You don’t actually know (and generally don’t care) about the specific parts, because PDF is supposed to render as a printed/viewed page for you to enjoy.
The same is true for webpages — there is a whole pile of HTML stuff, links, PHP, and other crud behind the scenes that’s supposed to render as a cohesive page view.
Not surprisingly, because they are similarly complex bits of media, movies work the same way. As shipped, the whole shebang is on a thing that has its own DVD file system. This can be ripped into an ISO, which is a one-for-one representation of a physical disk.
Alternatively, you can choose different container formats to stash your video information inside. Two popular alternatives are MP4 and Matroska — there is a comparison at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_video_container_formats . Being that I tend to favor FOSS, I’m going with Matroska as being the most versatile.
Although most DVDs ship with approximately 720i resolution, I’m transcoding them into 1080p because most of the computers and monitors I intend to use them with can use that resolution natively — that means that I’ll do the hard work of transcoding as I rip instead of when it’s played. I’m using H.265 coding for pretty much the same reason.
I would welcome any information or comments regarding this project, as I have made significant decisions based on first impressions and have little confidence in them.
I’ve never even heard of Matroska. I’m Suspicious Cat on its future, if it’s up against mp4. And mp4 isn’t FOSS? I was not aware that it had any proprietary risks.

I don’t know what that means. Are these blank discs? Seems unlikely, if you intend to transfer DVDs to PC hard drives.
Are they movies? Unless they are rare or obscure, they have almost certainly been remastered on blu-ray (native 1080p) and many now in 4K UHD. DVD picture quality should not compare to blu-ray, if the blu-ray was done even half right.

I thought about ripping my CD collection once. I ripped a few using a program called EAC. Then I realized how much time it would take to rip around 1,000 music CDs, and how much hard drive space it would take to save it in a lossless file format (.wav)
If I remember correctly, you have a LOT more CDs than I do.
And then there are the playback issues. The sound card in my PC, no matter how good it is, is not going to be comparable to the quality of my home stereo equipment.
And the PC itself is probably going to introduce noise to the line, because it was not designed as a high end or even mid-level piece of audio equipment in the first place, and unless it is a fanless PC with a solid state hard drive, the PC will introduce mechanical noise to the listening environment, not to mention the monitor that will probably need to be turned on in order to do song selection.
And to top it all off, I never had a problem with picking out a CD, putting it in the CD drawer, and pushing ‘play’ in the first place. It works just fine 😁
They are prerecorded movie DVDs from the regular assortment of publishers.
I do have some Blu-rays for when I get the basics running smoothly. They are not as cheap and take up substantially more room on disk. OTOH, a lot of what I have were originally TV shows, and a Blu-ray of a videotape (even a studio videotape) isn’t going to buy you anything.
The thing about having them all on disk is that they can all be on a network, and — accordingly — available in different places. This also implies that you can play them on different devices. The same is true for CDs.
When I get down to Rasputin, maybe once a month or two, I commonly get about 30 CDs. Those can typically be loaded into the music collection that evening…..even if I’m online here. I’m using FLAC instead of WAV — also lossless. An album will typically be about 260 MB on hard disk. Being a digital transfer, it picks up no noise being ripped onto my system.
On playback, it is true that I mostly listen at this workstation — but, again, I don’t have to. And Raspberry Pi computers don’t absolutely need fans, and can be run headless. You can use nicer DACs for playback that are as good as professional stereo CD players will use — e.g. https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/dac-pro/ .
Whether old TV shows or movies, they should look substantially better in higher resolution.
The older TV shows (before videotape) were recorded on film, and can look far better than the original broadcast, when scanned to 1080p or (now) 4K.
Even the shows that were shot on video are substantially improved. Unless no restoration work at all was done and the blu-ray is just a direct port of the DVD file (i.e., the format is the only difference), the reviews I have read, from people who have DVD sets from years ago and compare them to more recently released blu-rays of the same material, say that the blu-rays are a big improvement.

Despite some minor fluctuations, the overall quality of the episodes from the first seven seasons of the iconic TV show is very good. All episodes have been remastered in 4K by Universal, but they have not been fully restored in 4K, which is why the fluctuations remain. What does this mean exactly? Some episodes reveal density fluctuations that affect delineation and depth, so the consistency of the visuals is not the same across the board. Some episodes simply look a little healthier than the rest because time has been a little more forgiving to them. While very good and very convincing, color reproduction is not identical in each episode either.
To be clear, I do not refer to lensing preferences that affect color temperature. In select episodes, color reproduction — both in terms of saturation levels and balance — is simply a bit better. The discrepancies are particularly easy to spot in darker areas with different ranges of nuances, but elsewhere the primary settings can reveal the shift in quality as well. In some episodes, grain exposure is a bit more pleasing. It appears that some work was done to rebalance content that may have looked uneven, even rough, but I did not see any traces of problematic degraining/denoising work introduced by automatic settings. Image stability is either very good or excellent. Finally, various episodes reveal tiny nicks, blemishes, and even a few scratches.
You do not have to worry, they are never distracting. However, a proper 4K restoration would have eliminated all of them. To sum it all up, while not perfect, I think that the content that is gathered in this big box set looks very, very good in high-definition. My score is 4.25/5.00. (Note: This is a Region-A “locked” Blu-ray release. Therefore, you must have a native Region-A or Region-Free player in order to access its content).

CBS/Paramount serves up Cheers on Blu-ray with a fine, at times bordering on wonderful, 1080p transfer. The image rightly retains the 1.33:1 aspect ratio from the first episode to the last, holding to the original broadcast aspect ratio that faithfully reproduces the picture as it originally aired.
However, the similarities to any original broadcast run presentations end there.
This is certainly the best the show has ever looked for home consumption, clearly superior to the vintage SD broadcasts from decades past. What is here looks excellent. First, viewers will note that the picture holds true to its filmic roots.
It’s handsomely grainy, and the grain is even and organic for the duration. There are no signs of unwarranted scrubbing or other processing maladies that would rob the picture of its natural elegance. No, what is here is very true and pleasing to the eye. The result is a sharp, efficient picture that maintains excellent detail and definition throughout. This is especially true of various clothing, such as Cliffs mail carrier uniform, for example as one of the regular mainstays, and of course through the revolving door attire that other characters wear throughout the seasons and series. Facial complexities are healthy in close-up, and the various odds and ends around the bar — wear and wood texturing on the bar itself, various adornments on walls, brick facades, glasses hanging above the bar — are very sharp and clearly detailed. Viewers will come to know the Cheers bar location more intimately than ever before thanks to this excellent Blu-ray presentation.
Color reproduction is very good, too. The action takes place almost exclusively in the bar, where warm wooden tones dominate, so the depth of browns and the variations and nuances of the shades throughout the bar area are critical, and the Blu-ray delivers these tones with all of the necessary depth and accuracy to bring the location to life. Of course, the browns are offset by various signs and memorabilia on walls that add some distinctive color flair, which is nicely handled, while clothing offers the most color bounce and life in the series. All of the clothes are appropriately vivid and well saturated. Black levels and shadow detail rate as excellent. Whites are adequately crisp. Skin tones look healthy. Color is handled very well throughout the series run.
The icing on the cake is rock-solid compression. The episodes are spread out just enough to allow them to breathe. There are no serious examples of compression problems of note, and the source is in great shape, too; the odd pop or speckle are in evidence but never to a distracting, never mind debilitating, level. All in all, CBS/Paramount did a first-class job with this set. Fans are going to be delighted! Cheers!”

In regards to the process of ripping a CD……I’m using Ubuntu, and their preferred music player (at the moment) is Rhythmbox. Rhythmbox is a project of the GNOME guys.
When you tell Rhythmbox to rip a CD, it compares it to a database of CDs at MusicBrainz using Picard (an audio “fingerprinting” method). This is where it gets song titles, composers, genres, and other metadata to store in your database.

Twenty minutes later, it got downgraded to a 3.4.
It felt a little “floaty” before we got a solid jolt. I’m not sure if that might be why it was originally thought to be larger.
Anyway, as I was saying, you usually just stuff the disc in, let Picard “sniff” it, choose a likely alternative (usually US), and it fills in all the relevant information as it adds it to your library.
Now, there are two circumstances that happen frequently. Either MusicBrainz has never heard of this CD, or the information is flawed.
As an example, my music list has “Spencer The Gardener” and “Spencer the Gardener” listed as two different bands — along with “Spinal Tap” and “Spın̈al Tap” (with no dot over the i and an umlaut over the n). It’s not like the information is entirely wrong, but it is unsatisfactorily inconsistent.
Every day users can contribute to the MusicBrainz database, but (as might be imagined) it is not a high-priority. I probably have 50-60 items I should enter.
So, I’ve been ripping these DVD’s on the workstation that I use for casual browsing, which is a ridiculous lead sled that doubles as a space heater. It’s got dual Xeons, 16 threads, and something like 12G of system RAM. It was likely someone’s scientific number cruncher back in the day, but it’s a couple of generations old and currently helps thoroughly anchor my workspace.
To my right, I’ve got this laptop that is logged into a couple of the new servers so I can jigger them around. Since it’s got a DVD drive and isn’t doing anything that requires a lot of intellect, I thought I’d have it rip DVD’s alongside the other system.
O.M.G. is this thing S-L-O-W!!! It is literally ripping about 2 frames per second, when playback would be 30 FPS.
I wonder if a Raspberry Pi might be quicker.
This is not merely a stupid observation — the Raspberry Pi has built-in H.264 and H.265 hardware acceleration. Most of these source disks are encoded in H.265 and I’m ripping them to H.265. The workstation has the CPU and memory to do this by brute force, but the hardware accelerator might be just about as fast.
I’m beginning to wonder if ripping the DVDs to ISOs and then repacking them might be faster…..

DVD drives are typically slower (and have less cache) than spinning rust. If I copied the DVD onto a hard drive, then repacked, it might not need to hit the DVD drive as much.]

I am sure you’ve experienced how a lot of delegates at lower level assemblies are real sticklers for rules.
Very prominent this year at the State assembly of the Colorado GOP (and also the smaller meetings to select county commissioner, state rep, and US House Rep) was the absolute insistence on paper ballots! The procedure was a bit different at each meeting.
At state you not only had to check in, you had to scan a QR code (or log into a website) using a random six character code that had been stuck onto your badge at the door. A lot of people didn’t do this, and when they went to vote for RNC Committewoman (to boot the RINO), there was a bit of a fuss, but their votes were counted anyway; our chair didn’t feel like legit delegates should be disenfranchised on a technicality.
One of the candidates for committewoman raised an angry stink about it, but it turned out the 100+ people who were affected were much less than her margin of loss to Ruckus anyway.
Not belittling. Just stating that it is the right thing to do, regardless of the difficulty.
And I don’t think this is about whether they will vote for him before but not after, either.

Tim Pool Abruptly Ends Live Stream as Laura Loomer Calls for Treason Charges and Death Penalty for Democrats Accused of Coup Against Donald Trump
During the show, Loomer passionately voiced her frustrations with the political forces aligned against Trump, calling for stark actions against these “traitors.”
“Wake up. Stop being nice to these people,” Loomer said. “I don’t give a sh*t about these people, their livelihood, their well-being, the well-being of their families, their little kids. I don’t give a sh*t. And that’s the mentality that everybody needs to have now in this country, because it is war. It is war.”
Pool echoed Loomer’s sentiments, asserting that there was “no question” that if Trump were reelected, he should start locking Democrats up.
“Should there be lists of Democrats who need to go to jail? 100%,” Pool said. “And the reason for that is they committed crimes… And the reason we can put them on trial is to show the whole world we will uncover what you’ve done. We will make sure everyone knows, and you will be held accountable for it.”
“Not just jail, they should get the death penalty,” Loomer said.
As Loomer began to call for the death penalty as punishment for treason, the live stream was suddenly cut off. The video disappeared from YouTube and was replaced with a disclaimer stating it had been “removed by the uploader.”
After the abrupt end of the live stream, one user asked Loomer who pulled the plug on the feed.
“Who pulled the feed? Was it Tim? It went down on YouTube and Rumble at the same time?” the user asked.
In her response, she confirmed that it was Pool who ended the stream when she called for treason charges and the death penalty for Democrats accused of plotting against Trump to prevent his YouTube account from being taken down due to her comments.
“Tim Pool had to cut the feed. He ended the stream when I said people who committed treason in our country (I was talking about the Democrats who staged a coup against Donald Trump) should be tried for TREASON and get the DEATH PENALTY,” Loomer wrote on X.
“Apparently you’re not allowed to say that on YouTube even though it’s literally in our US legal system… I am not angry with Tim. It’s not his fault that YouTube is pro-censorship. Obviously I don’t want his account to be taken down just because I was defending Donald Trump and because I said there needs to be a trial and then the maximum punishment on the books for TREASON,” she added.
“I stand by everything I said. The Leftists at the top of this lawfare machine are committing treason. Many of these efforts are funded by the CCP. These lawfare agents and communists deserve the death penalty. I will say it till I’m blue in the face because it’s TRUE. I believe Tim Pool is posting the show on Rumble. Hopefully he will tweet the link out so all Of you can watch the show,” Loomer concluded.
Pool, who recently confessed that he did not vote for Trump in 2016, faced criticism for his decision to end the livestream. Some users accused him of prioritizing monetization and income over free speech, while others defended his action as a necessary business decision.
One user commented, “I like watching Tim but he still feels monetization and income is more important than his and guest’s free speech, since he won’t simultaneously cast to Rumble.”
Another commented, “Content creators should be boycotting Google. That is the only way things will change, but none will because they don’t want to give up the $. The overlords know this. This is how the matrix controls information.”
A third user expressed disappointment, stating, “I blame him. He supports a platform that censors common viewpoints. He does it because it’s self serving, right?”

Looks like the company hasnt been paying rent for a while but keeping some open. Theyre using the underperforming locations as an excuse. No warning either. Lawsuits for those leases incoming. I do not believe theyll survive.
Left unnoted (unless I skipped over it in skimming) is how many locations they have, total, or how many will remain open.
86 in 3 states will be open. Less than half of what they had 5 yrs ago and far less than their peak of roughly 200.
I personally never thought the place was anything special but my friend loves it.
