Alternate Presidents
Back in 1991 or 1992 (copyrighted 1992 but oft-times that is a book printed just before then) an anthology titled Alternate Presidents (edited by Mike Resnick) was published. It contained 28 stories of “what ifs” on presidents including Franklin instead of Washington, and other even more ridiculous cases (such as Goldwater winning in 1964, which was basically impossible).
The cover art is sheer genius. It’s Thomas Dewey holding a copy of the Chicago Tribune that reads “Truman Defeats Dewey,” an exact reversal of the real photograph (shown below), with Truman displaying a quirky sense of humor. (This has been called “the most famous political photograph in history” though in the fullness of time it might be supplanted by something from last Saturday.)
That story is a lot more realistic. It could easily have gone the other way; that was a squeaker of an election. Of course this book came out well before the Gush/Bore debacle of 2000.
Realistic alternate history is a fun parlor game. There was a long series of novels by Harry Turtledove exploring what might have happened if a Confederate soldier had noticed his commander dropping the plans for Antietam; the idea being that the entire Civil War had hinged on that little mistake. (The first of the novels was set in 1881, with a second war being set off when the Confederacy purchased Sonora and Chihuahua from Mexico; they continue through World War I (which had the US, Germany and Austria teamed up against France, England and the CSA; the US ended up occupying Canada and two CSA states). I was never able to finish the series because the WWII-analog stories never came out in paperback.
It must be spooky to realize that someone has lived through a moment that just through sheer happenstance steered history in one direction versus another. I say “it must be spooky” but now we know that feeling.
And we may well have seen such a moment last Saturday. Certainly if Trump wins, takes office and has a successful term of office, rather than just being another four-year-long speedbump on the road to an imposition of a kakistocratic dictatorship on America, we will look back on July 13 as such a moment. If he hadn’t had to look at that chart…if the assassin(s) had just fired a second earlier…if that first bullet had been one inch to the right…well, you can probably write more variants.
An inch, or a second, that made all the difference in the world.

And Ayn Rand also pointed out that existence (i.e., the sum total of everything that exists) precedes consciousness–our consciousnesses are a part of existence, not outside of it–therefore reality cannot be a “social construct” as so many of you fucked-up-in-the-head people seem to think.

Joe Biteme, properly styled His Fraudulency, continues to infest the White House, we haven’t heard much from the person who should have been declared the victor, and hopium is still being dispensed even as our military appears to have joined the political establishment in knuckling under to the fraud.
One can hope that all is not as it seems.

(I’d like to add, I find it entirely plausible, even likely, that His Fraudulency is also His Figureheadedness. (Apparently that wasn’t a word; it got a red underline. Well it is now.) Where I differ with the hopium addicts is on the subject of who is really in charge. It ain’t anyone we like.)

The prior election must be acknowledged as fraudulent, and steps must be taken to prosecute the fraudsters and restore integrity to the system.
Nothing else matters at this point. Talking about trying again in 2024 is hopeless otherwise. Which is not to say one must never talk about this, but rather that one must account for this in ones planning; if fixing the fraud is not part of the plan, you have no plan.

I screwed up my back ~ a week ago washing out a dozen water tanks and ended up flat on my back for several days.

I remember trying to role up my skirt in the waist so the skirt looked not so long 🙂 Never that high as above the knee though. My daughter never wanted to dress provocative. She is beautiful but did not need to attract attention wearing slutty clothe.

I had that experience too. Once in college a friend gave me a “makeover” & I got a bunch of googly-eyed male attention, which was quite freaky to me. I wanted to be accepted for who I was naturally not via artifice 🙂
My daughter was also very modest AND natural. She’s quite beautiful but never sought to entice males w/ various artificial enhancements via dress nor makeup/hair. I’m so thankful that her style was so modest & comfortable…she’s the real deal!
Women have more ability than men to set the tone of an interaction — but they have to deal with the consequences. If they want to look like an attention-gripping tart, they will get a lot of attention from men doing most of their thinking below the neckline. These men will be single-minded, boring, goofy, and stupid. If they want to interact with men who are intellectual, want to talk to them, have a variety of talents and interests, and will treat them with respect, they should wear more sensible clothes.
The joke in all of this is that these are likely to be the same men. Using those WGTT’s, waving the red cape, and showing-off her ass….ets makes it more difficult for the boys to run their brains on the right tracks.
Brad Parscale was a great example. Had a lot of promise, techically very good, but checked his brains at the door once some WGTTs rocked his equilibrium.

After my boss quit laughing, he told me to take it down.

That was going to be my comment. Shopped with g’daughter (they love malls) for prom dresses and every single rack had tight, very short dresses; zero alternatives. It’s marketing indoctrination; stores have NO choice of what gets delivered to them to sell; it all comes from ‘the agenda’.
Some mysterious cabal decides “short skirts” this year then “long skirts” the next.
Or button ups this year, polos the next. Drives me nuts, I have threadbare shirts I can’t find replacements for.
Try finding DECENT sized pockets in cowboy shirts that will take a cell phone. Even my flip phone won’t work in some!

Steve, THAT, and the godawful, artificial fabrics that do not breathe. I feel sufficated the minute I put any blouse/dress on in a department store. Finally found a pn online source of decent flax clothing but still can’t find a decent white cotton blouse.
WORSE they are now starting to make COTTON Tee shirts out of some other material.
Polyester fabric can be breathable if it is manufactured correctly.
Generally a Polyester-Cotton blend that is loose woven works well. I generally wear around a 50-50 blend when working. And I am in public walking for hours in temps up to 100F and humidity well over 50%.
The thinness of the fabric is also a MAJOR factor. That is why Denim is HOT. I have several 100% cotton Denim long sleeved shirts I use for clearing brush and they are HOT!!

Bottom line, go for a polyester – cotton blend with 50% or more cotton with a light weight loose weave.
Talbots has some nice white linen shirts made in India. I buy every year one or two of them. Love them nice and cool. I have some going back 25 years and still look new. I think I will never wear them out. Have them in many different color Yes I have to iron them do not mind. Ironing is contemplative.
Ironing is so old school 🙂 I remember my mom ironing my dad’s shirts & handkerchiefs. She had an old bottle of Smucker’s fruit syrup washed out where she’d perforated the metal top & would shake water on the cloth to aid in getting it smooth. I did NOT get the ironing genes & the one time I tried to iron a shirt for my husband I didn’t do it to his specifications so he’s been ironing his own shirts (very rare but when wearing a suit on a special occasion or a few times when he was dressed in a certain stylish way for a gig). He likes using spray starch to get a certain look & my mom never used starch. I think he’s used the ironing board 98+% of the time of its usage 😉
Interesting that the flea market I go to has a indoor shop with fancy dresses. They are BEAUTIFUL AND FULL LENGTH!
My girl friend and I drool over those dresses.
Next door is a shop with very nice men’s clothing. I buy my fancy cowboy shirts there.
Thankfully my daughter shops vintage resale AND is quite modest, yet playful, & even artistically expressive in fashion, when the mood strikes 🙂

Sorry. Not Sorry.The way I see it, resisting temptation is my job – and it cannot be done well enough.
When I was in Jr. High, my Mom let me order some outfits from Sears catalog. It was a big deal to order clothes from a store. I was 5’8″ at the time. The clothes came and fit. I have long legs and was always a head taller than my classmates, though I was one of the youngest in our class.
My outfit had a courdory skirt and was short. It would have been 1967 so that was around the time of Twiggy. LOL. It was not nearly as short as Trump’s granddaughter’s dress, but still it was short.
My teacher called me out on it and suggested we add a ruffle to the bottom. Ruffles with cordoroy would be too weird. I was sad because I got to pick it out and it was new. Many of my clothes my mom made for me, even when I went to college. Honestly, I don’t think either of us thought about the dress being too short. I was just so long legged and tall so regular sized clothes are shorter on me than many other girls.
We did not add a ruffle though Mom was great at sewing. I didn’t wear the outfit to school any more. At the time, I don’t remember clothes being offered in Tall.
I remember our 6th grade class lined up in the fall to be measured and weighed in the nurse’s office. I suppose she needed something to do. hehe
I was in the middle of the line because we were arranged alphabetically. Some boy behind me was looking around the line and asked “how tall is she this year?” It was embarrassing and I thought something was wrong with me. I was just too tall. When I went to college and passed a girl on the Quad who was even an inch or so taller than me, it made me happy and I tried not to stare. Yay, I finally met one of my people! I was rare, but no longer a freak for the first time when I was 17 or 18. hehe
When it came to shoes, that was also no fun back then. We had a shoe store in our small town but they normally only had one or two pairs of shoes in women’s size 10. That’s the size I needed then. They were never too cute. My feet were not wide, so that’s one good thing. I’m so tickled to see now stores often carry size 11 or even 12 in women’s shoes.
As an adult, I’ve learned the advantages of being tall. I’m less likely to be harrassed on the street by strange guys and if they do, I can intimidate many with my height. I am sometimes asked for help reaching items on the top shelf at stores and at home, I can reach most cabinets without needing a step ladder.
I like being tall (a 1/4″ under 6′) though I remember shorter football players being listed as 6′ tall when I knew they were probably 5’8″ in the game programs. hehe… I know, intimidate the opposing team.
So … if we’re having a face-to-face discussion, we can look each other in the eye? Cool.
Yes, that is a bonus. My Dad was 6’1″ and my older brother 6’3″. It is handy to look someone directly in the eyes.
I remember a group of us went out to eat at a Greek restaurant in Houston. As we left, someone who worked there walked up to me and mentioned my height. His eyes were at the level of my navel. To me, he was a little person. I did not tell him, but my school girlfriends were often very short so we got teased with the Mutt and Jeff thing, though I don’t remember that cartoon.
Back when I was dating women in the Computer Science program at the University of Casual Sun-Bathing, I spent some time with one that was 4’11-3/4″. She insisted on the 3/4″.
She eventually spun-off with my former roommate who was 6’11”.
Gosh, in college I remember a group of us going to a buddy’s summer cabin at the lake of the ozarks.
I rode with a guy who was lots taller than me. At least 6’6″. It was a strange experience for me. LOL I did not have a height requirement when dating.
The most entertaining thing to reminisce about that trip was that the guys had bottle rocket wars at night. Thankfully, I declared myself Switzerland and stayed inside by the fireplace. Also, none of the guys shot anyone’s eye out.
Two feet taller… I need to think about that for a bit. I wonder if people thought she was his daughter just because of the substantial height difference. People can make such funny assumptions. Both my grandparents were tall dads (over 6′) and short wives (about 5’1″). It’s just how it was for them.
One time, all three of us were goofing around at a mall and had her model some drop seat Dr. Denton’s for us in the kids’ department (not open).
She was actually a couple of years older than us.
LOL fun, fun!! I once had some drop-seat PJs with feet. Nice lavender terrycloth material. Soft, but a little bit shorter than I’d like.
How neat to be able to shop in the kids or grown-ups departments. More size choices is a big plus.
The best flannel shirts I ever got were from Ambercrombie & Fitch, but I don’t know that they still carry that type. I probably still have one, but the wrist material finally frayed. Ah well.
These were the classic red and white striped version.
I used to help these CompSci women with their classwork, and this one pissed me off with one assignment. The general concept was sparse matrices, but she came to me at about eight-o’clock at night for something that was due the next day. If I’d had a couple of days to read the course materials, understand them, and come up with a solution that would have been ok, but to spring this one at the last minute and demand that I bail her out was insulting.
So I gave her an insulting solution. This was programming in C on a UNIX system (a DEC VAX 11/780 with all the trimmings), so blithely had her declare a 1000x1000x1000x1000 array of nothing and filled the sparses in as if they were regular data — knowing that it would all be shoved into virtual memory by the operating system. If you did this on a production system, you’d probably get lynched, but it solved the problem given in the assignment.
That I’m still annoyed about it 40+ years later says something.
She eventually went on to work for Xerox while I was slogging along in the trenches of public accounting.

It may have been slightly smaller, but it was very much a ridiculous “solution”. Like I said, I was annoyed.
By contrast, my tall friend was always a total mensch. When he would go home from school at UCSB, he would stop at a flower store at the edge of his town and buy a bunch of roses and drop one off with each of the girls he knew as he drove in, then give the rest to his mom when he got home.
He was uncannily gentle and calm around everything — sort of like a human version of a great dane. I never saw him get mad or vindictive…..although I understand that there was an incident at his High School where someone was teasing him and stole his book bag. He grabbed the miscreant by the neck and threw him into the fifth row of a set of bleachers.
I managed to track him down about 30 years ago, to find that he was married to a woman named Maria and living in Fresno. I hope he’s surrounded by a passel of kids and grandkids today and living his best life

The Fiancee is taller than I am at 6’1″ — I’m about 5’10”.
About half of her clothes are guys’ clothes, because there just aren’t comfortable shoes, polo shirts, or jackets that work right.
That’s cool. I have met lots of girls 6′ or taller over the years. It seems more frequent these days. I was also happy to discover I could get guys tennis shoes that looked just like ones girls wore at the time but were 9.5 in mens and easily available.
Did the Fiancee get questions asking if she played basketball? I used to get those sometimes. Nope, I played volleyball but not basketball. 😃

This video shows a 3-D animation of how the shots were fired. It is interesting but probably not accurate. It assumes that all the shots came from Crooks on the roof, which some are now saying could not have happened.
The video shows a path of those first three shots going straight toward Trump from the rooftop, with the first one striking Trump’s ear and the two others traveling close to him but on either side. It seems surprising that neither of those hit him. I don’t know if they missed because he turned his body. This video shows all three shots having been fired before Trump ducked down.

1) What make, model, and caliber of firearm was used, and when/where/by whom was it purchased?
2) What make and model of ammo was used (including the weight of the bullet used)?
3) Did the rifle used have any type of magnified optic or red dot sight on it, and if so, what make/model, and what exact setting was the optic on when the shooter used it?
4) Have authorities put identical rounds through the rifle with the identical optics settings and confirmed both the zero and the result of shots fired at the range at which they were fired on Saturday?
5) How many shell casings were recovered from the crime scene? How many remaining rounds were in the magazine that was found in the rifle?
6) How many rounds were fired by the shooter on the warehouse rooftop? Has each round been accounted for (i.e., do investigators know where each round landed, and does the number of bullets found or accounted for match the number of shell casings found?
7) Have investigators confirmed, via the recovered bullets and the known trajectory of the bullets, that the shooter on the rooftop fired each one?
8) Have investigators reconstructed the shooter’s precise movements over the past days, weeks, and months? If so, have they put together a list of every person with whom he interacted over that time period, but in person and virtually or online?
9) Have investigators reviewed video surveillance of the shooter at all various locations he recently visited (e.g., gun range, gun dealer, restaurants, traffic cameras, etc.)? If so, have they canvassed and interviewed each person seen with the shooter?
These aren’t difficult questions to answer. These are usually the types of details promptly provided by authorities in the days following shocking, violent events of national importance.
Yet we do not have a single one of these questions definitely answered on the record by an official authority. Not one.

People are calling Bongino’s information into question because he could have been fed disinformation on purpose. So I’m asking this: What would be the purpose of having him disseminate info that there was no aerial serveillance plan by the SS? Is it that, if the SS really did have aerial surveillance, it was as part of a plot to assassinate Trump? IOW, they were watching the scene from above to make sure all the players were in place and to coordinate the operation, and they don’t want people to know that?

From the forensic audio analysis part: there was an 8th round, fired 10 seconds after round 7, appears to be the round fired by the counter sniper team that took out Crooks. Round 8 doesn’t have any report signature (probably because fired from a suppressed rifle). They have the snap but not the snap boom so can’t calculate the distance. From the first round, the SS waited 15.8 seconds to fire back and kill him.

For 148 Saturdays in a row, a group of Trump supporters have gathered at a major intersection on the town line between Tonawanda and Amherst NY. I visit my uncle on Saturdays until after the group leaves (2 PM).
Today with my uncle’s blessing I attended the gathering (my first time). There were about 40 people. Many Trump signs, American flags, one beautiful enlarged photo of the fight fight fight moment, and varied pro-Trump regalia.
Literally thousands of cars go through that intersection on a Saturday afternoon, a constant stream. I was there from one to two and there was a constant cacophony of approving horns.
There were some really angry, hateful people who shouted from their cars, but they were greeted with smiles and “God loves you!”
One woman stopped to ask why we supported Trump. She affected (or maybe she was sincere) a concern for our ignorance, pretending (or maybe not) that we could only support Trump because we knew nothing about anything. Truly pathetic, she was the one who did not have a factual clue, just Maddow level spew.
For example: she asked us if we had even heard of Agenda 2025, and said we would not support Trump if we knew. She was genuinely surprised to find out both that we knew about Agenda 25, and we also knew that Trump had DENOUNCED Agenda 2025. That failed to penetrate her smugness.
Two Saturdays from today will be the 150th gathering in a row and a big turnout is anticipated. Some famous MAGA guy (I had never heard of) will be there, and a Trump convoy of Canadians is expected.
I hope to join from now on, and my wife will be there if she is not working and it is not as hot out. I do believe that now is the time to demonstrate publicly, risky though it may be.

We were on the Amherst side of the intersection, where there is a turning lane onto a major multiple lane street, Maple Avenue. Where we were standing is approximately as long as the dedicated turning lane, so the turning lane is adjacent to the sidewalk where we were standing.
A car went into the turning lane, roaring very fast and driving within inches of the curb. It was a highly reckless thing to do, and was intended to scare us. I saw it all the way, and it was frightening. Fortunately, many of the Trump people were turned the other way, or were positioned so as not to be affected by the sight/sound.
Nothing happened to anyone, including the driver, but in a sense that was sheer luck.
It is very much within the realm of possibility, in my mind, that an angry hater will simply plough into the Trump people on the sidewalk. That, or shoot through an open car window. The Trump people are literally right next to the traffic, no protection but for the curb.
I am very hopeful in general, but not sanguine about the safety of Trump supporters anywhere, any time.

I’m seeing a lot of fretting and worrying from certain conservative quarters (like Sundance at the Conservative Treehouse) that JD Vance is some sort of Deep State plant because he went to Yale Law School and was a venture capitalist. I want to share some personal experiences that may allay your fears.
If you listened to my appearance on Ron Coleman’s podcast last week, you know I finally revealed some things about myself that I have thus far been keeping purposely vague—those things give me, I think, a little bit of insight into where JD’s head may be at. I’m a lot older than JD, and I came from a solidly middle class family with two wonderful parents, but some of my experiences mirror his. The day I retired from the Army, I started law school full time. I did not go to Yale, but I went to another of what the legal community calls an elite “Top 14” law school. I then went to work at an “AmLaw 25” law firm, where I worked closely as a corporate law attorney with leading venture capitalists and some of the huge Silicon Valley companies that drive our economy. (Needless to say, 90% of my colleagues and clients were rabid Democrats who assumed that everyone they met, including me, naturally believed what they believed.) When you go into something truly privileged like this and it’s not where you are born and raised from, you go into it with kind of a starry-eyed expectation that you are putting on Cinderella’s slipper. You are not. You rapidly learn that so, so many of the people who surround you may have high IQs, but their privileged backgrounds and inoculation from the everyday lives of most Americans leave them hopelessly vapid, vain and clueless, and full of ideas that do nothing to help anyone but themselves and people just like them. They often have the racial bigotry of low expectations, and their intellect, training, power and wealth are wielded in a way that is most harmful to our nation.
That’s not to say I have not met many great people and had wonderful, amazing partners along the way (I have)—but taken as a whole that community is essentially a cabal of highly intelligent and wealthy idiots, and they cause massive harm to our nation. Sometimes I feel like a double agent, leveraging what I know to work against the horrific vision they have for America—a vision where their wealth and knowledge qualifies them (they think) to tell the rest of us how to live our best lives.
I’m pretty sure JD Vance is the same way. He was inside the “elites” but never became one, and with the knowledge he has he can now effectively combat them.
I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure JD is solid. As a legal colleague of mine who also went into the law after retiring from the Army once told me: “These are some nice people. But they never slept in the dirt.” You don’t forget sleeping in the dirt, and I doubt JD Vance has forgotten it.

On X there were a couple of times when the very blurry figure was for a frame or two solid black. I have not gone back and stepped through the video frame by frame, but it would be interesting to do that to see what’s in each frame and why I was seeing those quick shifts to solid black figure. Was it edited?

I stand by everything I’ve said about women in those roles. That’s not to say that some women couldn’t serve, but I don’t think a woman should be in charge of the SS, I don’t think women of short stature should be guarding taller men, and I don’t think a woman should be hired unless she can pass the same physical tests that men do. No double standards; you can either do the job, or you can’t.

Astronauts will likely look more like the 4’11-3/4″ girl than they will look like me. It just doesn’t make economic sense to lift my weight — and my food, water, and air — into space when the job can be done by someone with half the mass.

Astronaut might not require a lot of physical strength when they don’t have to deal with weight (just mass). That massive object will probably move more slowly if a woman handles it, but it will move.
I was thinking of handling G-forces, like creatively shown in the Armageddon movie, for example…

Imagine watching a chase scene with, oh, say cars from the 1970s and suddenly they behave as if they are pogo sticks, with no explanation. Not sure why they were under thrust while doing a slingshot (our space probes do sling shots precisely in order to avoid having to be under thrust but making a turn and/or a [relative to the sun] velocity change).
Well in the storyline they were using the Moon to a slingshot effect so that they could then come in on the asteroid from the back side, relative to earth, after the Moon’s gravity having hopefully captured a lot of the debris in the asteroid’s wake. The real reason was for creating a scenario where the actors get to suffer in space 😉

OK I haven’t delved deeply into the topic but thought that was one of the reasons that they were held back from being fighter pilots for so long…
There were a couple of real reasons, and a lot of flaming bullshit. Things like “women could be taken prisoner”, “men will sacrifice themselves (and their units) for women”, and “women are weaker and cannot take the g forces” are in the latter category.
Men do have advantages with “fast twitch” muscles (while women have better endurance) but this presupposes a type of warfare that may not be relevant today.
Well like the original comment by TT if women can meet the same standards as men then they have “earned” the right to whatever job they are qualified for. Not like the DEI BS of the HLS/fake SS estrogen brigade that put DJT’s life in danger, including by not being tall enough to provide him physical cover…
Part of it is whether the standards to be met are the right standards. If the SS member in charge of the roof can bench-press 250 pounds doesn’t matter if they can’t tell that an unsecured rooftop a hundred meters away should be a deal-breaker.

I’ve previously mentioned that I had a gig doing SarbOx compliance. We had to prove out the adequacy of a structure of compliance over financial reporting, then prove (again) that it actually operated in the way it was documented.
The client had an operation in England in a building where you could see the tower of Windsor Castle out the window at the end of the hall. I flew over there with my top auditor — a young Philippina woman who had been the designated victim during our development process. She was under five feet and weighed less than 100 pounds — maybe less than 90. On our flight over, I was wedged into an airline seat and she was sprawled out like it was a couch.
I climbed the stairs to their front door, hauling all the cases of stuff, wearing a $1000 suit. She was dressed casually. We walked in and introductions were made (I’d previously corresponded by email) and you could tell they were thinking, “oh, here’s cooth — and he brought this kid.”
We put her in an empty cube with our computer, and had to boost up the seat for her to be comfortable.
And I started wandering around the office, figuring out where things were filed and who had access to them, and bringing them to her cube where I’d put a Test Performance Sheet on each set of documents. Soon, she was surrounded by a half-dozen stacks about a foot high — you could barely see her. But her keypad was clicking away and she was churning through the documents at a good clip.
After a couple of days, we had a progress meeting.
I did the presenting — “you said that you did X every time that you did Y — our tester reviewed 10 times you did Y and you only did X for seven of them.”
We also let them know when they were performing according to plan, but it was clear that they were bragging about things that they weren’t doing — and my tiny auditor was putting it down in indisputable black and white on the TPS Reports (the owner and I were fond of Office Space).
What the people there did not get was that I could rewrite the Test Performance Sheets based on what I saw while bumbling around like a bear…..then my auditor would document (with evidence) anything I happened to notice.
At the end of that first week, we had found that they were about 40% out of compliance…..and they were scared of my auditor. Oddly enough, they weren’t scared of me (I can seem like a very cuddly bear), even though I had written all the tests that she performed.
She would be sent on other trips to the UK, sometimes supervising other staff, and she never got any backsass.
It’s all about establishing competency early on.

Meritocracy works regardless of our other traits (age, sex, race, weight, social skills, fashion sense, political views, education, etc.). It would be awesome if it only mattered how well we did something so that our work could speak for itself but I don’t think that that “Perfect” world exists much in this one…sigh… 🙂
