(This index is the ratio between the price of gold today, versus the value of the dollar defined as dollars per ounce when we had the gold standard, minus 1 (so that an index of 0 means the dollar is at its original value and doesn’t suck at all). I use that clumsy phrasing because the dollar was defined as a certain amount of gold, such that an ounce of gold was $20.672. It’s a subtle distinction. One ounce of gold wasn’t worth $20.672 back then, it was $20.672.)

Interestingly I had someone ask me today if I thought, based on Trump’s behavior the last couple of weeks, if he was trying to throw the election.
I confess I’ve been disconnected from things for a few days so I had no idea what he was alluding to.

I can’t imagine. A lot of people don’t “get” Trump. The idea that he would throw an election is preposterous, and to back that up with supposed behavior is to completely misinterpret his words and actions.

I’ve read many people noticing this.
Having lived with someone (my father) who went through nearly dying (armed robbery; they held a gun to his head), I can tell you that I am not surprised that Trump seems different.
What would be strange is if he was not different. That would suggest to me an interesting range of psychological problems.
Trump seems more reflective and serious. He is probably dealing with his wife and children (especially Barron, the youngest) having some pretty serious trauma. Melania was WATCHING as it happened. To see her husband fall to the ground on life television, and NOT KNOW for the couple of minutes it took for him to “fight, fight, fight” must have seemed like eternity to her.
Everybody should give the speculation a break, listen to Trump speak about his plans for the Presidency, and lighten up.
“Throwing the election” sounds ridiculous. A little moderation from firebrand Trump could actually be a good thing. We need some voters from the middle, too, not just the true believers.

We should consider that he may have had multiple near death experiences, in which case, there would be a certain amount of desensitization to it.
It would not be surprising if he has had attempts on his life before entering politics, and it would be shocking if he did not have multiple attempts since he got into politics.
There may have been dozens of attempts that were prevented, that the public never hears about.
Then there was July 13th, and now we find out he almost died in an emergency helicopter landing with Good Times Willie Brown.
He’s also 78 years old, which almost certainly gives him a different perspective on things than those who are around a quarter century (or more) younger.
Not to mention his life experience, which has to be wildly different from the vast majority of people who have ever lived.
So given all of the above, I suspect that the actual impact of the attempt on his life was less than it would be for many people, but I’m sure he immediately recognized the PR value and how he could use it to his advantage, e.g., whether to go the defiant route and reinforce his current persona, or go the “I’m a changed man” route to present a gentler, softer persona to the RINOS at Conservative, Inc. who seem to need that.

I am seeing a LOT of criticism on X – possibly invalid, inauthentic, bot-driven, or even enemy action – where people are saying that Trump needs to stop name-calling, and stick to highlighting Kamala’s record and policies. Many others are telling them to STFU / BTFO – but they seem very much like the DeSantis crew back again.

How is everything? Back to “normal”?
I’m back at the Village and things are going pretty well. Sally Q has a new short hair cut that looks really cute. The beautician who comes to the Village nursing home did a good job. It turns under in a nice page boy bob without any blow drying, etc.
She’s been in a much better mood since getting on the new medicine. Celexa aka citalopram has been tested with patients with her disease and had some good effect on the ataxia symptoms as well as moods.
The cerebellum degeneration causes ataxia patients to have emotional lability aka short fuses and anger hostility issues, obsessive compulsive issues, and to be illogical and unreasonable, and excessive startle reflex. We have dealt with all this for years. I’d say she is 30% better on all this (at least yesterday).
Time will tell. Patients taking these SSRI and SSNI drugs sometimes get resistant and the effect diminishes. Everything is trial and error with medications.
Same thing with equipment modifications for her wheelchair and lift – and as time passes – things change and I have to invent new ways to make her safe and comfortable.

I found with my back pain and allergies, rotating what medication I take really helps.
On Pain — I have just found that a LOT of magnesium and potassium (electrolytes) taken that night, when I have done a lot of outdoor ‘heavy lifting,’ keeps my back from going into a week long spasming episode. No pain killers needed at all.
(Lots of water to re-hydrate too of course.)
Be careful of potassium. I have an adrenal problem that makes me lose potassium instead of sodium. Too much potassium in a normal person could kill. Magnesium isn’t not nearly as much of a problem.
Too little sodium can kill as well. My aunt is in the hospital this week, and low sodium is one of the reasons why.

However it is usually a lack of potassium that is the problem given the amount of sodium in our diets.

You should be able to get enough iodine through eggs, baked potatoes, salt water fish, and a few other things without having to resort to iodized salt.
Actually they are three things I generally do not eat. I was very allergic to eggs for decades, do not eat potatoes except as a treat maybe once or twice a year and am only now starting to eat some canned tuna, sardines & salmon.
The fresh salt water fish around here is only fit for cats!
Salmon is one of the only foods that has Vitamin D as well. Just be sure it’s wild. Yes, it’s more expensive, but much better for you.
I like salmon but I LOVE Blue fish. Unfortunately you can not get it around here.

You can do a very rough at home check. If your blood pressure drops, you MAY need to increase your sodium. If you see you BP is off you can then badger your doc to do a check on Na-K levels.

Democrats will have their convention later this month. Conventions are to determine the party’s nominee, yet that has already occurred… or has it? Democrats held a “virtual roll call” and claim this is how they determined their nominee. If that is true, that they have determined their nominee, then why have a convention? Is the “virtual roll call” legally binding? Or is the convention necessary for a legally binding nomination?
If a convention is required then their Ohio problem still exists and Harris’ seizing of Biden’s campaign funds is even more sketchy. If a convention is not required then why have it?
Essentially the DNC is a PRIVATE CORPORATION who can do what ever the heck they want.

I have no idea how the DNC and the convention work, rules-wise. I have heard it said that *they* can swap out candidates at the convention. If so, there must be rules that allow open convenntions and the like. I can’t imagine Kamala giving up the nomination without a royal battle unless they have video of her committing felony indecency with a minor, or the like.

A research dossier the campaign had apparently done on Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, which was dated Feb. 23, was included in the documents. The documents are authentic, according to two people familiar with them and granted anonymity to describe internal communications. One of the people described the dossier as a preliminary version of Vance’s vetting file.
The research dossier was a 271-page document based on publicly available information about Vance’s past record and statements, with some — such as his past criticisms of Trump — identified in the document as “POTENTIAL VULNERABILITIES.” The person also sent part of a research document about Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who was also a finalist for the vice presidential nomination.
When Politico asked how the documents were obtained, the hacker replied, “I suggest you don’t be curious about where I got them from. Any answer to this question, will compromise me and also legally restricts you from publishing them.”

I have put goat kids in a tub of hot water up to their necks. Once they revive, it is rapped in warm towels and sit on my lap later they are bottle fed.

Turns out he was working for Homeland security.
Tina wants to tell the jury that he had the best clearance and a clear background check.
The crooked judge said it must be excluded. Only this is after the crooked judge allowed the prosecutors to say and admit to evidence that he did not pass a Secretary of State background check.

Let us get this straight. Judge won’t let jury hear any defenses, he blocked THEM all. Won’t let any expert witnesses to testify. we thought we’d take a drive and see what the damage was from the storm that blew thru here. it’s immense! the towns to the west of us suffered greatly. there are corn fields with bent over stalks when the overflowing “creek” went thru. bean fields covered with mud. 2 power companies are working on removing downed trees from the power lines and everywhere you see mud and debris all over both towns. doors opened trying to air out wet houses. people trying to salvage what they can.
two amazing bright spots: there was a greenhouse and a produce stand along the route and BOTH had signs out: FREE FOR THOSE IN NEED…baskets filled with veggies and fruits.

A dog is a gift from God.
So is a horse, a pony, a goat…. Most domesticated animals. Having a horse at a boarding stable all these years kept me sane. Of course I also had my dog and then the barn dog who went out on my trail rides with me.
That picture reminds me of one of my Saddlebreds. I have more pictures of her admiring the view. If we had the carts or the carriage up in the pick-up, my mares would practically drag me on to the trailer. They loved to go out on trail drives and spent as much time sight seeing as we did.
