Anyhow, not that I’m counting, mind you.
Now that I really listen to my senator bashing the airline guys, not giving them a chance to talk, as I understand it – and I had to pay extra on Air Lingus, RyanAir, and other airlines decades ago – it has to do with weight and fuel. More weight, it takes more fuel to take off and land. That’s why there are weight restrictions on luggage. Relatives of mine for whom I was dog sitting…the bathroom scale was on the kitchen floor as they weighed their bags to be sure they were underweight. It was quite the scene watching them rearrange suitcases to get them all under the limit. Of course, one was going to be gone for two months, so he had a lot of stuff, but still….
I had a multiple-hour wait between flights at Denver one time (or maybe I was leaving from there in the first place and got there early and/or my flight was delayed; I can’t remember), and at the next gate was a regional jet bound for Edmonton.
The problem was, it was overweight. They needed seven passengers to get off; they offered all sorts of inducements. (How the heck the airline misjudged it by that much in selling tickets, I don’t know.)
Six did get off the plane, but they couldn’t get a seventh passenger to bite.
Quite some later the plane still hadn’t moved. Eventually an airport official came by and ordered the plane to push back from the gate, at least, whether or not it could take off; the airport needed the gate freed up.
I have no idea what happened after that; my flight boarded and left.
I’d be tempted to deboard some luggage.
Pack light. Seriously. I’ve learned to do it.
Likewise, on my last two trips overseas I had verysmall luggage.
European domestic luggage restrictions are much more onerous than ours.
I may have mentioned this before, but I’ve gotten The Fiancee addicted to “subvacations” (it goes with my fixation on electrical subpanels). You travel all the way to London, and since you’re there you can zip up to Edinburgh; you go to Las Vegas, and you bag out for Bryce Canyon; you go to Atlanta, you can zip up to Tennessee….
Whenever we do anything in Europe, we tend to make it a subvacation of a trip to London. That way you get all your jetlag out of the way and change your money and get your phone working and all that in a place that is low-stress where you speak the language.
A big fly in this ointment, however, is the luggage restrictions of which you speak. Flying into London with [for instance] 50 kilos of luggage and finding out you can only take 40 kilos onward is a huge pain.
50 kilos = 110 pounds.
40 kilos = 88 pounds.
That is still a LOT of weight to man handle thru airports. I do not know if that is for one or two people.
For back packing as a lady, 40 lbs was the goal BTW so I instinctively travel light. (Cut 1/2 the handle off the tooth brush…)

I did have fun when flying home from the UK to the USA. I was NOT going to check my EXPENSIVE backpack, so I carried it on…. Filled with my very large puffy down jacket. Of course I got stopped. So I told the stewardess to just wait.
I took out my jacket, placed the backpack on the bottom of the compartment, where it fit very nicely and then used my jacket as a pillow after stuffing it in it’s sack. She just shook her head and grinned.
I’ve been back and forth across oceans enough to tell you that the very best experience was with TWA on a 747. Both are gone.
I really liked Lufthansa. Good service and decent food.
They bumped my brother and his son for not checking in as soon as they could. Not flying them anytime soon.
Air Canada and Air Iberia weren’t bad. Alitalia…we’re lucky the plane didn’t fall apart. The seats were broken…so Italian.
Well my Balinese got them for your brother and nephew. A guy stuck his hand in his cage to check for guns and came out with 8 claw marks. Such a cute little fluffy Balinese kitten too. (He was named FANG…)
Depending on your trust level of the hotel, you can possibly get them to retain the least essential 10Kg, particularly if they know you’re coming back after you return from the subroutine…I mean subvacation.

Full disclosure. We had reservation when we returned. They were familiar with a couple of us, from previous visit. Very nice hotel.
Yeah they will be much more inclined to do it if they KNOW you are coming back to them on return.
Some hotels even have luggage storage facilities.
Open to people who are not, at that moment, guests at that hotel?
Based on a response I once got while traveling (when they didn’t yet know we were guests, pre-parking our luggage), I think some places will allow non-guests to park luggage if they provide information and pay a fee.
I know that on a number of occasions I was able to do a baggage dropoff well before checkin time as I had arrived in that locale early AM, go do touristy things, then return and check in. I imagine the reverse would work too. (Checkout, play tourist, pick up stuff, leave.) Wasn’t worried about theft; they’d have got a small bag full of dirty laundry.
Also have dropped bags when I arrived AM, with check in that afternoon.
I’ve used them, especially in Europe.
A large part of this is that hotels have been corrupted by motels.
They used to be full-service establishments that catered to the upper-crust that expected to be recognized. Now they are often generic accommodations designed to process people.
In times past, one might leave a letter for “Mr. Underhill” that could be at the desk for a year and produced upon registration. Luggage could be left for weeks or until next summer. Room keys would be distributed by sight, rather than by ID card.
Mind you, this is generally to the benefit of most modern travelers — you fly in, check in, sleep in, and move on….and it doesn’t cost more than a small house. You don’t expect your carriages and horses to be appropriately refreshed during your multi-week stay. But the bones are there in older, more traditional hotels.
Slow Guy perspective.
– Always pack lite when it fits. Makes sense.
– If I’m authorized 35, 50 or 70 lvs AND need it, I Take It. Using the home scale. I keep it under by at least 5 lbs.
Airlines are well paid.
Airline “service” nearly always Sucks. Seating outside of Business / First horrible.
Airlines, TSA and airport employees consider the flying public, an inconvenience.
Note, I’m speaking from the point-of-view of the airline.

Exactly. This is an excellent suggestion, and if you were staying in your destination for a week or two, any logical airline would jump at the chance to send the bags on a later flight. Frankly, when “late bags” have happened to us, I half suspect that this was done to us intentionally, to make weight – particularly on flights where it’s obvious by our schedule that we’re staying somewhere for a while, and there are multiple daily flights to the destination.
That is what I do not understand. Why not off load some of the luggage? That is what they used to do.
This is why I only take carry ons. I HATE it when that happens, especially when in a time crunch on the other end.
I’ve been on enough flights to know they do it all the time depending on where they are flying. Coming home from NYC with the Symphony, we left one of the chorus members behind just because of this.
I’ve been on a flight where they had to do that. It got up to $1500 and a free ticket before someone took it.
Back in the day, when I had people working for me who could do shipping in their sleep, I’d just ship myself things when I was traveling (and coming back). Since those halcyon days of my youth, shipping has gotten ferociously expensive…..but, even so, The Fiancee shipped a bunch of stuff back from this year’s trip to Rome rather than carry it. After all, for what airlines are charging per bag, shipping almost looks reasonable.

Four shots – last one stayed in the gun because of the slide catch.
While this could have been a “dedicated amateur” based on the tech (many gun guys would have chosen the same), the best speculation that it was professional, to my mind, is based on the observation of human behavior.
Will be interesting to see who it is, if they ever catch him.

Virtually all pistol rounds are subsonic IIRC.
It’s the opposite, actually. Subsonic rounds are an uncommon specialty item that cost extra. They almost always fail to operate semi-automatic firearms correctly, and the casings have to be manually ejected. Subsonics have to be powered just under a supersonic velocity, so that there is no supersonic crack.
Well, that’s what I get for running my memory retrieval algorithm in front of a mirror. 😂

SBA lenders and customers know about the red tape to which POTUS speaks. It is a worthy agency of the federal government that executes its mission badly.
She can start by shutting down agency operations centers and useless tertiary, ineffective programs that just blow tax payer money. Even BIMD I told HR and Senators to have the agency become a trainer and assign participating lenders with handling 90+% of the operations of the primary loan programs. That’s it – nothing else. The agency could then simply focus on audit and IG activities with said lenders along with promotion of its services. We were able to make the primary loan programs self funding of loan guarantees from fees charged the borrowers and lenders.
Not every bank or lender should be doing SBA type loans. They do not dedicate the resources and training of staff to know what they are doing with only one of two loans a year. They do not make full use of the benefits of the programs to the lenders, much less the potential customers. They cause problems with improper documentation and bad loan decisions while taking up the time and efforts of agency personnel. This skews the costs of the programs and actual loan experiences of the industry in relation to loan defaults, delinquencies, servicing related loan modifications, etc. That means more SBA staffing expenses of wannabe bureaucrats with more inefficiency the way it is operated now.
All of it is because the tip of the spear and those that “fund” the program don’t care about how the inefficiencies and junk initiatives cost the borrowers and lenders as well as tax payers who underwrite their related costs. Hopefully DOGE will address and get a better handle on it.

Interesting. I don’t know if anyone in their right mind would engrave words on the outside of shell casings while they had active primer and powder inside, which implies that they were custom loads or reloads.

Airlines normally tell you, one or two checked bags plus carry on (of a certain size.) My friend when flying home found they charge her an extra $200 dollars!!! despite her following these guidelines.

it depends on the airline. Right now, SouthWest has two free bags. On United, it depends on the ticket according to family members. IDK about the others. I take my computer backpack and a carry on and that’s enough for me. So long as I have access to laundry facilities, I can go on 2-3 days worth of clothes. If I’m going to a wedding or something, that’s a different story.
The problem is NOT informing the customer or having the information in the fine print.
Seasoned travelers learn how to pack. It is those who only fly occasionally that get ripped off. From the looks of that testimony, there were enough rip-offs that people were complaining to congress critters. We are talking “1 in 100 actually make ‘official complaints’ IIRC. When I first saw Troye, I was a bit shocked at how “Down syndrome” she looked, but obviously it’s not that. Her eyes are weird – and they are weird in a way that is common in named genetic disorders. Just my “NNNI” (natural neural network intelligence) opinion.
But years later, when I was looking at “Triple X” (Trisomy X), I knew I had seen ladies who may have had it before – both in real life, and somewhere else. But I could not recall the “somewhere else”.

I literally ripped the duct out of the ceiling in the bedroom, tied it off and plugged the hole.
Forced air contributed to the breakdown of the nuclear family. No longer did individuals need to be huddled in the room with the wood stove to stay warm.

And then the Lionel Train layouts they had, especially around Christmas… The whole basement of the Hayward, CA store was transformed into a Lionel Winter Wonderland… those were the days…
I hear tell our living room is going to be transformed (no pun intended) into a Lionel Wonderland as soon as I get the tree up. Dad’s O-Gauge has been in a train coma for 13 years. The boyz want to get it out.

We got a humidifier along w/ furnace, A/C, & new water heater, a package deal from the furnace company. It’s made a big difference, especially in Winter, where I used to get cracked & bleeding skin, especially between fingers, as the air was so dry. It also helps the temps feel more comfortable. Wish we’d done it 20 years sooner!
When living in my parents’ Cottage in early marriage they had a cast iron wood stove as well as a gas furnace. We kept a tea kettle on the cast iron stove to add humidity. We also hung our laundry to dry in the doorway between dining & living rooms where the furnace & stove were back to back on that same wall, which helped w/ comfort.

E-verify has been around quite a while. It has something to do with employment. My passport is current. I’ve done it multiple times. That’s really all you need.
And, if you’re travelling overseas, you’re going to be asked to show your passport.
How dumb are these people? Never mind, I got, and DPat has said it many times!
The last time I renewed my passport, I went to the post office for a money order, and I was the only one in the place. The lady at the counter was gracious enough to check over everything and make sure it was in order. That particular branch is not always the best place to mail stuff, but every now and then the service is fantastic.
The passport has one advantage over any other ID.
It does NOT give your address. So no one can use it to find out where to go to burglarize you while you’re out of town.
Fortunately, there are enough people living in this house that it is usually never completely empty. The one exception was Thanksgiving 2014 when we all descended on my brother the Marine’s house in Louisiana for a few days. Four dogs (all have crossed the Rainbow Bridge), two little kids, two teens, nine adults, countless laptops and iPads, and one stopped up sink made for a memorable time.

Made my calls to Senate RINOs today about Pete Hegseth.
Just a couple notes on it. Got through to the swamp offices of Collins & Murkowski, but mailboxes were full there for Joni Ernst & Lindsey Graham, so found local office #s for both of them.
My messages mentioned two points I heard from Poso today on the warroom. First for all of them was that they were not “honoring Senate tradition” by bringing political stances into the process of Advice & Consent.
But there was also shaming Linseed for pretending to support PDJT and not doing it. And mentioning his primary in ’26.
And opining to Joni that if she keeps blocking nominees she just may find that Iowa loses the 250th birthday of the USA now planned to be held there.
I like to give them food for thought. ☺️

Prayer for Serenity 1: When Things Seem Out of Control
You did everything you could to assure a positive outcome, but it didn’t turn out the way you wanted or expected. We’ve all been there. It tests our faith. Maybe you accept the outcome or maybe you’re frustrated. God wants to help you put the situation into perspective and remember that he is always in control of every situation—even those you so desperately want to control.
Dear Lord, It feels like everything is out of control in my life right now. I know good things are happening too but the stress is overshadowing them. I wanted a better answer, things to change, but my hopes are dashed. Many people try to comfort me by saying that you’re in control, but it doesn’t bring me comfort. It seems condescending.
Lord, I want to understand and discern the plans you have for me. Father, restore my faith as I trust that you’re omniscient and I’m not. Envelope me with your peaceful balm to soothe my questioning mind. Remind me that you hold the whole world in your hands and all things work for good to those who believe in you. I do believe! Amen

God didn’t create doubt, anxiety, or worry. Satan did to rob us of our joy, peace, and sleep. God knows common sense can flee when we’re under stress, so he gave us a remedy when we experience mind hijackers: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Charles Spurgeon advised that, “Our anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength.”
Lord, you know how irrational I can become when I’m anxious. I can’t reign in my thoughts. Instead of expecting the best, I worry and wonder. I fret. My stomach churns, my heart races, and I can’t take my mind off the issue. I know you don’t want me living in a constant state of turmoil. It’s not good for my physical or mental health. It makes people around me miserable and keeps me living in a perpetual state of chaos instead of calmness, which I crave.
Father, you tell me in your Word to cast all my anxiety on you and so I’m doing that in this prayer. I lay at your feet the things I’m struggling with and I implore you Lord to free my mind of concerns. Remind me please to take deep breaths and trust that you can make a way even when the path is not visible to me. Father, please lead me to refreshing Scriptures when I feel anxiety approaching. Holy Spirit fill me with the serene peace and joy of the Lord. Amen

I see the bullets. Mine got trashed, and I had to just live without them. I could, at least, put my returns/endlines back in.
After using the edit, I usually look to see if formatting is OK.
Fix what is amiss.
Commonly i look later, FUBAR. Bullets gone. Paragraph breaks gone. Everything run together.
I guess it is incentive to get it right the first time.
SMH and move on.
I often have to put periods in otherwise blank lines to try to preserve some semblance of paragraphs.

It wouldn’t even be conceivable.
The ONLY group that can be discriminated against, vilified, demeaned, marginalized, disenfranchised and openly hated, with impunity and without repercussion or social condemnation, is a white male.
What other possible outcome could there be, when everyone else is made a protected-class? People need to have a scapegoat, people have to blame someone, people have to be able to hate somebody.
So obviously they will hate and condemn whoever is not ‘protected’ from hate and condemnation. If everyone else is a protected-class, then who else can they hate, except the white man?
It’s not hard to understand, it was the obvious and predictable end-game when protected classes were first created.
After all, who were they being protected from?
Seems like nobody ever thinks about the necessary precursor, the implied threat from which every class (but one!) needs protection.
Who is this mythical bogeyman?
If you create a ‘protected-class’, it has to be predicated upon protecting them from somebody. Well who is it? Who are protected-class people being protected from?
Not from blacks, they’re in the protected–class. Not from Hispanics or Asians, they’re in the protected–class. Not from American Indians or India Indians, they’re in the protected–class. Not from women, they’re in the protected–class. Not from islamists, they’re in the protected–class. Not from homosexuals, they’re in the protected–class.
So who does that leave? Who are all of these ‘protected-classes’ being protected from?
Are they not being protected from the white man?
It has to be, doesn’t it? Who else could it be? Who else is there?
The more I think about it, the more I think I love it.
Imagine how much power the white man must have. Not because of wealth, or intelligence, or skill, or ability — because none of those things can be measured by simply looking at someone — but just by virtue of being a white man, he is so powerful and dangerous, that everyone else in the world needs protection from him?
It reminds me of early 2020, going out without a mask, and seeing all the mask people. I could see the condemnation in their eyes, because that’s where I always looked.
It was empowering. They were all muzzled, forced to wear a silly, useless face-covering, because some stupid bureaucrat told them to, and they said “how high?” when Ellsworth Toohey said “Jump”. But I was a free man, and everyone could see it, because I wore no mask.
And they resented the *&^% out of it. And I loved it. I loved visibly standing for the truth without having to say a word, just by not bowing down to the corrupt ‘powers that be’, while nearly everyone else applauded the emperor’s new clothes.
Made me feel like Rocky, in that video clip where he goes jogging, the one that I used to post practically every day 😁
This is the same kind of thing.
To be a member of a protected-class is like a public acknowledgment of weakness. Like people who need training wheels and a bicycle helmet to face the world each day. Like people who need crutches, even though there’s nothing wrong with their legs. They won’t even try to stand on their own two feet, they need those crutches. They’re dependent on them.
But the white man doesn’t need crutches. And it’s a good thing too, because he ain’t gettin’ any.
Imagine if all of society ganged up on the blacks, and everyone openly hated them and discriminated against them, how long would they last? How about the Hispanics, or the Asians, or the Indians, or the islamofascists, or the homosexuals?

Honea then claimed that Litton was politically motivated, as they have evidence – a typed note on his body – indicating Litton believed the Seventh-Day Adventist Church was responsible for ‘genocide’ and ‘oppression’ of the Palestinian people as well as American attacks in Yemen.
Litton – an alumnus of Paradise Adventist School as a child who may have had a relative who attended Feather River in the past – has a ‘lengthy criminal history and mental health’ issues, including convictions on theft, fraud and forgery. Authorities believe he was homeless.
Honea says they recovered a ghost gun at the scene. As a convicted felon, Litton cannot legally own a firearm.
The two victims – identified as 6-year-old Roman Mendez and 5-year-old Elias Wolfhard – are currently in critical but stable condition, according to Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea.
