I’m bringing this over from yesterday. Tonight there is a Wolf Moon (full moon in January), and I have also been able to see Mars near the moon.

I researched, and Eastern Standard Time is 5 hours behind UTC (Coordinated Universal Time).
Unfortunately, it’s too cloudy here to see it, as it usually is this time of year.
I was sitting in my Rogue and caught a shot with my cell phone. It’s not crisp like it was when viewing with just my eyes. Still, it’s interesting.
Is that Mars above the Moon, or a photographic artifact?
Did catch it in binoculars. Cucking FOLD out.
I missed the main event obviously, since the moon was already a degree of arc past Mars (two widths of the full moon).
One time in high school or college I was hanging out with a buddy on his rear deck and we watched a crescent moon catch up to a star and cover it (with the unlit part).
Found out later that “star” was actually Jupiter.
Most of the time I wouldn’t know what I was looking at, but there was a clear description of Mars and even a pictorial, so I feel certain that I saw it, which was nice.
Without binoculars (and glasses) I had to put my thumb over the moon and saw a haloing of Mars. Yikes, the warranty has definitely run out on my eyeballs!
I got some nice pictures tonight, with just my phone!
A few days ago, there was a great arc in the sky – Mars, Jupiter, Moon, [Neptune], Saturn, and Venus. I could see the big 4 and the Moon, and it was excellent.
Saturn should be in a north-south line with two of the stars in the “square” of Pegasus.
I can “see” it doing exactly that, underground, in my app!
Actually, Saturn’s rings will be going edge on this year.
I should make some efforts to watch it, even though it’s making the thing that makes Saturn interesting disappear.

Why is privacy more important than the commercial interests of Allstate? If you don’t like the company, take your business elsewhere.
Limiting rate-setting is the cause of cancellation of all those California insurance policies.
Now if this case is about unethical business practices, then be honest about it. Don’t call it ‘privacy’ unless that is really what the lawsuit is about.

Ok, let’s follow your logic and see where it leads.
So, if you use a grocery card for discounts, your health insurance company purchases your data from the grocery store and finds out you buy junk food, should they be able to raise your rates?
How about this: your health insurance company monitors your Facebook account, discovers you like to hike a dangerous trail; can they raise your rates? Or they find you eat out at McDonalds because you share this info with your friends. That’s junk food, so they should raise your rates for that?
Or your homeowners insurance company algorithm follows you on X. They find out you like to have big parties at your house, where you have bonfires in your back field. That’s a fire danger; can they raise your rates, based on that knowledge?
This “Big Brother” bullshit is getting pretty old to me. Secretly spying on people in ANY way to “gather data” on them should be illegal. If an insurance company wants to gather data, it should have to disclose that it will do so to purchasers, and in what ways it will do so. And we, as purchasers, should put the companies doing this shit out of business. We have a right to live our lives not at the mercy of mercenary, money-grubbing shysters.
The answer to all your hypotheticals is yes as long as it is disclosed AND they have some empirical evidence that those purchases increase the company’s risk exposure.
We like Allstate. The surprised us one year after strong winds took some shingles off the roof . They gave us a new roof even on the garage here there was no damage. They always have been good to us even when someone keyed our car the paid in full to fix it.

EXCERPT: “The Department of Defense spent $79.1 billion on contracts and grants in September 2024, making it the military’s most expensive month for such purchases since 2008. Not since George W. Bush was president has the military funneled so much cash out the door so quickly.
The dollar total includes $33.1 billion spent in the last five working days of September, which was 7% of the Pentagon’s contract and grant spending for all of fiscal year 2024. Only 11 other countries typically spend that much on their entire military in a full year.
On Friday, Sept. 27 alone, the DoD spent $11.7 billion on contracts and grants.
Federal agencies typically go on spending sprees at the end of the fiscal year, likely due to “use-it-or-lose-it” funding rules. They’re worried that spending less than their budget allows will cause Congress to give them less money the following year.
The largest expenses were in line with expectations, including $3 billion spent on ammunition and $7.9 billion spent on aircraft.
Others were a bit more surprising. The military spent $103.7 million on meat, fish and poultry in September, partially because they ordered raw lobster tail 147 times for $6.1 million. They also dropped $16.6 million on ribeye steak, $6.4 million on salmon and $407,000 on Alaskan king crab.
Another $81.1 million went towards fruits and veggies. Blueberries were the most popular, with three orders each exceeding $100,000. There was no grape juice; maybe there’s still some left from the DoD’s $586,000 purchase in September 2023.
Not all the groceries were as healthy. The DoD ordered ice cream 79 times for $113,230 and spent $117,787 on fresh doughnuts…..

Your body basically sends your periphery into overdrive to stay warm. Long johns / thick leggings and a sweater indoors can be very helpful. Feeling warm indoors can stabilize you.
Also wondering if your doctor is running a yearly thyroid check (TSH) If the numbers are odd or marginal, you may have something going on there.

Even if the TSH levels are a little off, it can negatively affect the body.
Selenium supplementation can potentially help keep TSH levels optimal — but people who use selenium supplements need to be careful. It may be better to get selenium from foods. Our good Gail Combs says that eating ONE Brazil nut a day is sufficient.

A couple of mini health reports.
Working on the kid’s home addition/remodel. Son in law was was clearly coming down with a cold yesterday morning. Handed him two – 12 mg Ivermectin pills and told him to take them. He did. Came back to the house this AM. He smiled and said, “Cold’s gone. Thank you!” I told him it does that for me every time and to quit depending on me, go buy some for himself. 😂

I have posted about our next door neighbor who has been jabbed and boosted several times along with catching COVID three times. He had a higher than normal PSA reading a year ago, had a biopsy that was negative. Despite counseling him to stop getting jabbed and what supplements to take along with Ivermectin, he followed his wife in continuing them and caught COVID again. He is now recovering from having his prostrate removed and hoping not to have chemo because “they got it early”. Of course what really happened we know about, it turbo’d on him.
Sometimes you cannot fix stupid even with a Christian Trump supporter.
Currently using nicotine patches and that will clean out the ivermectin along with the spike protein, I understand.
Today, just trying to keep warm. I think the cold is really doing a number on me.

I came across this in my reading this morning. It seems an excellent summary of the different emotional responses to the life and words of Jesus. The three responses are faith, opposition, and indifference. The following amplifies the characteristics of each. I thought it illuminating. Kierkegaard’s prayer at the end is marvelous.
Faith, in the present sense of the word, is a happy relationship with Jesus of Nazareth. As dialectical pathos, it will be marked by an emotional structure. Kierkegaard and the New Testament writers stress the emotional dimensions of the believer’s relationship to Jesus Christ. Thus when we speak of a “relationship,” we will have in mind a pattern (disposition) of emotional response to Jesus. That is a significant part of what the relationship amounts to. This relationship, above all others, will count as a virtue, an excellence of individual character, because it is not only a relationship with Christ, but is also a general virtuous orientation to God, creation, and the rest of humanity.
Emotional response is a crucial index of ordinary friendship, enmity, or indifference—that is, “relationship.” A friend is, in significant part, someone who is glad to be in my presence, rejoices when I am blessed, is saddened by my decline and fall, angered by those who undermine me and grateful to those who help me, who hopes for my well-being and regrets having let me down. An enemy is one who finds my presence irksome, holds me in fear or contempt, rejoices in my downfall or hopes for it, who is saddened when I do well, angry at those who help me and grateful to those who undermine me. Someone who is neither an enemy nor a friend is marked by emotional indifference in all these respects. Faith, as Climacus and Anti-Climacus understand it, is like this: it is made up, in significant part, of dispositions of emotional response to the man Jesus of Nazareth. This is a friendship that is a virtue, a relationship-virtue. Ordinary virtues are important in large part because they affect our relationships, but the virtues themselves are not particular relationships. However, Christian faith, as a virtue, is a particular relationship.
Calling faith a “happy passion” suggests that the emotions that constitute it are “positive” in two senses of that ambiguous word. They are positive about Jesus, in that they evaluate him positively. He is seen, in these emotions, in his aspects of goodness, glory, helpfulness, worthiness, divinity. They are also, on balance, affectively positive, that is, pleasant. They will tend to be kinds of joy: gratitude, hope, adoration, “glorying” in him—that is, “happy” emotions—though faith can also be exemplified in unpleasant emotions, notably contrition concerning our sins and grief about the way Jesus is viewed and treated by unbelievers. By contrast, the emotions of offense are “negative” about Jesus, seeing him as impediment, intruder, false claimant, degrading to ourselves, a threatening rival, foolish, and absurd. And they will be, on balance, unpleasant: anger, outrage, indignation, resentment, embarrassment, shame, dismay, repugnance, contempt, disappointment, and fear.
Throughout Practice in Christianity, Anti-Climacus is concerned with restoring a truthful perception of Christ. Just as Johannes Climacus wants to correct his contemporaries’ impression of Christianity by making it “difficult to become a Christian, yet not more difficult than it is” (CUP 1:557), it is part of the reintroduction of Christianity to Christendom to correct a false and “soft” (sentimentalized, “fantastic,” unrealistic) picture of Christ, and replace it with the representation of a Christ who can evoke the range of emotional responses that Jesus is reported to have elicited from his contemporaries. Central to Kierkegaard’s enterprise is the concept of Christ as the paradox, the shocking unity of God with this particular man Jesus of Nazareth. As Anti-Climacus points out, most of the negative emotion that Jesus aroused in his contemporaries could be traced to the extraordinary claim that his words and actions make (usually somewhat indirectly) about his identity. In the invocation to Practice, Anti-Climacus prays,
Would that we might see you as you are and were and will be until your second coming in glory, as the sign of offense and the object of faith, the lowly man, yet the Savior and Redeemer of the human race, who out of love came to earth to seek the lost, to suffer and die, and yet, alas, every step you took on earth, every time you called to the straying, every time you reached out your hand to do signs and wonders, and every time you defenselessly suffered the opposition of people without raising a hand—again and again in concern you had to repeat, “Blessed is the one who is not offended at me.” Would that we might see you in this way and that we then might not be offended at you!
