Addendum: An Open Letter In Praise of the American Air Travel Industry
This is just a quick message of THANKS to some people who are sadly undergoing a lot of scrutiny and criticism right now, and who surely could use an “attaboy” and some “kudos”.
You see, sometimes – including recently – I have had to deal with “foreign” airlines of various kinds.
Foreign airlines can actually be quite excellent. Some of them are charming. Some of them are extremely enjoyable to fly on. Some of them are very attentive, and can really help make a trip overseas quite memorable. There are several foreign airlines that I love for different reasons.
HOWEVER.
If you deal with foreign airlines long enough, you are bound to run into their dark and highly inefficient sides. They will sometimes do stuff that just boggles the mind.
In particular, their technology is usually just problematic. Or to be fully honest, it sucks. Big-time sucks.
- websites will crash
- websites will drop your session and forget you were ever there
- representatives will put you on hold and lose your call
- the company will forget to bill you
- flights will simply disappear from itineraries
- picking seats will cause itineraries to malfunction
- calls to customer service will cause itineraries to vanish
- confirmation numbers will vanish
- the same data will have to be “saved” over and over again – and then gets lost anyway
I recently had to deal with an airline that was absolutely no problem the last two times, during the last several years – but THIS TIME – OMG – what an absolute disaster. Dozens of hours arranging things – lost. KAPOOF! Gone. Vanished. So call customer service. Get it all fixed. Everything done. Waiting for the bill. No bill.
And then it all just disappears again.
Just an absolute waste of my time.
SO – because I was short on time – I decided to try something different. I attempted to re-book the trip using an American airline company.
The experience was just overwhelmingly positive. I managed to get almost the entire itinerary of foreign flights that we had before – but this time, everything went perfectly, and we were done in minutes, not hours. No tech errors AT ALL. Billed immediately. All the minor things we needed – DONE.
The websites functioned perfectly. All the international bullshit – DONE.
After all the CRAP we had put up with, it was a PLEASURE dealing with American airline tech – which could sell us foreign flights better than the foreigners could sell them to us.
So I just want to say THANK YOU to the American air travel industry for restoring my faith in air travel. Y’all done good!

I checked the middle schools in my district. 53% proficiency in grade level math. Less than that at grade level for reading. Higher than that for one telling detail….about 60% on government assistance.
We live in a recently former magnet district that was mostly white(slim margin). Not a chance in hell my kid can go to public school.

I don’t know what the problem is. Do the students have low intelligence levels? Are the teachers not presenting material at their grade level? Do the teachers themselves have low intelligence? I’m not up to speed on how things are being taught, but when I was in school, the material was presented through a textbook, handouts, and the teachers’ explanations. The students did the work, learned, and moved on.
If time is being taken away from school work to focus on social issues, that would be inappropriate and problematic, but parents should have been up in arms about that years ago. If student misbehavior is interfering with the learning environment, that also should have been brought to the fore. I just don’t know how it could be so bad.
I just read the American Thinker article. Teachers appear to be the problem, at least in that person’s experience. So yes, the DOEducation is failing miserably.
I have a friend that’s a junior high math teacher. During Covid he had to do all of it over video. Mostly, only 3 out of the entire class showed up (on video!) or did the work.
I made kiddo read it. Tired of the whining for what he does, at grade level and above. Its still easy but hes being lazy about writing well. His dad wants him out of homeschool for “social reasons.” I can only smack my head on the wall so much.

In the distant past (as in the first few decades of the Constitution) the State Department was the grab bag for everything that didn’t obviously belong under another department; now of course there are so many other departments that all the miscellaneous functions have found another home. State seems to do diplomacy, passports, and protocol, all basically “Foreign Affairs” type things and in fact it could even be renamed the Department of Foreign Affairs for all of me (but there might be things I don’t know or realize so I can certainly be persuaded otherwise).
Under Washington, in fact even the MINT was under the State Department, but that was primarily because Jefferson had had a big hand in designing the monetary system, and Jefferson was Secretary of State. Or maybe, it was deliberate separation to keep Hamilton from getting ALL power over finances.

You may also request (there is likely some donation involved) that a mass mention her name pretty much anywhere in the world — it’d be nice if it had some personal connection (like you, personally, could attend it — or if it is at a church where her family could attend). It wouldn’t have the eulogies or the congregation of her “official” Memorial Mass, and must be done a respectable time afterward, but it is something. Traditionally, a card is printed with the details by the church and forwarded to the decedent’s family by the sponsor.
I heard from the family last night.
Sadly, after investigating the possibility, it was learned there is no capacity for streaming a service at St. Roch.
What I can share is this…
Susie and I spoke at great length of a great many spiritual issues and matters. Among these, we agreed that it was almost a certainty that memorials were for the living, not those who have passed beyond the physical reality we are currently stuck in. Susie would say she has passed beyond such things, and seeing and/or attending a memorial for her would be for the benefit of that person, not her, as such a thing now lies BEHIND her cares and concerns.
For her, carrying a love for and memories of her in one’s heart is more than enough…and a memorial service pales by comparison.
So….for those concerned….be at peace. Susie is.
And this is more than enough for the highest of praise and gratitude to the Most High, who holds the power of life and death in his righteous hand.

Is the ‘religious organization’ in question found anywhere in God’s Word?
If it’s not, then by what Authority does it exist or do even one single thing in the name of the Lord?
Any court in America could decide this easily and put an end to all the bogus religious nonsense (as far as organizations that self identify as ‘Christian’ are concerned) in our country.
The judge could simply say to any self-identified ‘Christian’ organization applying for any kind of government subsidy or
grifthandout: “Show me where your church is found in Scripture, and if it isn’t, then show me the deed of transfer document where the church you are now a member of was authorized to change from how it was called in Scripture.”That will end the case right there, because any church that is following God’s Word won’t be applying for government subsidy in the first place, and any false church that is applying for government subsidy won’t be able to pass the most basic logic tests or hurdles. There is no ‘transfer document’ authorizing anyone to change how the Lord’s church is called, and if the organization (or its ‘sponsoring church’) are not referred to in the same way as found in Scripture, then who are they, and by what claim do they identify as ‘Christian’?
If anyone thinks the Left is going nuts, having all their government grift exposed by DOGE, we haven’t seen anything compared to how all the false churches would react if they were exposed and held accountable to their own highest Authority, the Word of God.
Because the Lord’s church is very specifically referred to repeatedly in Scripture, called the church of God (most often), the church of the Firstborn, and the church of Christ, also sometimes referred to by geographical location (“the church which is at Cenchrea”, see Romans 16:1), or by geographical location and ‘church of God’, e.g. “the church of God which is at Corinth”. (cf. 1 Corinthians 1:2, KJV).
The Lord’s church was established in the 1st century (Acts chapter 2), it is referred to from Acts chapter 2 onward throughout the New Testament, and it is called in such a way that it glorifies the Father or the Son.
Church of God (Acts 20:28, 1 Corinthians 10:32, Galatians 1:13, 1 Timothy 3:5, etc.)
Church of the Firstborn (Hebrews 12:23)
Church of Christ (Romans 16:16).
The ‘of’ denotes ownership, i.e., church of Whom? Of God.
And no organization called by some other way has any deed of transfer or other document Authorized by God to change how His church is to be called, in order to glorify some one or some thing other than God or His Son.
But suppose the church in question meets that first hurdle, it is called after the same manner given in Scripture.
The next thing the Judge should say is “There can be no higher Authority in your religion than God, so the next item to be established is this: where is the Authority in God’s Word to receive this subsidy or these funds from any government or other source outside of your own church?”
That’s the end of the line, because there isn’t any such Authority, it ain’t in there.
If they claim to be a Christian organization, all any judge has to do is hold them to the plain text of the highest Authority of their own professed belief system.
It could not be more simple.
It would take less than 3 minutes from the time they entered the courtroom to the time the case was dismissed.
You’re done, get out.
Move on to the next case on the docket.

Which is why it is not just important, or just a good idea, it’s critical that the congregations of the Lord’s church know and are familiar with the Scriptures, to be able to compare what the men who lead them say and do, to what God’s Word actually says.
The Bereans didn’t even take Paul only on his word, they checked the Scriptures daily, to verify the things Paul said were so. And they were praised for doing so, and that praise was recorded in God’s Word for all time, for an example to all who followed.

If Christians actually do that — as they ought to be instructed and taught to do by the leadership of the congregation — then how can they fall prey to a false teacher?
How can they fall into apostasy?
How can they do anything contrary to God’s Word, which the worldly churches all around them do?
The leadership ought to more concerned about doing wrong than anyone, because it is their responsibility to shepherd the flock, and not lead them into a ditch.
And knowing they themselves are susceptible to temptation, they rely on the congregation being knowledgeable in the Scriptures, to bring any errant doctrine or questionable teaching to the leadership’s attention.
And you can be sure they do exactly that, at least in congregations that hold God’s Word as their highest authority.
Where is the Authority in God’s Word to take in funds from any source besides the membership of the congregation or from another congregation, if the recipient congregation is in need? (e.g., Paul taking up a collection from the saints at Macedonia and Achaia to deliver to the saints at Jerusalem):

None of the churches of Christ in the 1st century were being subsidized by the Roman government, or engaging in social engineering nonsense, or spending even one talent or shekel of church funds on anyone who was not a member of the Lord’s church.
Charity toward those outside the church was a personal act of giving by church members to the poor and needy. Church funds were always used to edify the church members, for teaching and spreading the gospel (and supporting preachers), for relieving needy saints and widows.
Everything is in God’s Word, by command, example or necessary inference.
So long as we have book, chapter and verse for whatever is done in the name of the Lord, we cannot go wrong.
It is not complicated, or even very difficult, it’s really fairly simple, far more simple than the ever changing and ever increasing doctrines, commandments and traditions of men.

I disagree. I send cards and handwritten letters frequently and i never pay a bill on line. it’s always with a check in the mail. I am stubborn and old fashioned i admit, but I have relatives who are hard of hearing and are not on line. the letters we share back and forth are memories and treasures.
that’s not to say the system does not to be overhauled–it truly does–but I don’t want it dissolved.

the problem with absorbing it into bigger companies is that those bigger companies do not maintain offices in every little town. our little town has a little over a thousand people and the postmaster only works half days, but it’s accessible to the town. the larger companies will move all offices to larger locations making mailing a letter vastly more expensive because of the driving distance involved. and my mom? she doesn’t drive and never has. (Dad tried to teach her once: instead of reverse, she put it in drive and drove right into her flowerbeds. we kids cracked up–Mom blew up–and never wanted to learn again.)
I’m not sure I’d trust FedEx, DHL and UPS with the sorts of things sent registered/certified/insured either.
Well, I trust FedEx and UPS as much or more than USPS. FedEx more than the latter two.
I’ve personally had difficulties with FedEx claiming they tried to deliver, and marking me as not present. For many days in a row.
I know someone else who had a valuable package (a coin) simply thrown on the wrong porch (no signature collected, as required) and the wrong addressee never admitted to receiving the package (decided to keep the item for themselves). Fortunately there was insurance (and not through Fed Ex, which would do nothing).
Fed Ex is absolute shit.
I’ve had USPS claim the store where piece of mail was supposedly delivered was found to be closed (during working hours). But it wasn’t and they had the security camera video to prove no one delivered anything at time claimed. Store was kind enough to send info to local postal authorities.
USPS routinely marks by packages delivered, then they show up in a day or two.

Folks many remember my supplement purchase USPS tracking from this past weekend. It MAY finally be delivered today. 8 days from a warehouse in our same state. It came toward us in East TN and then was sent the opposite direction to Memphis from where it was sent to two different places in GA before being sent back to where it was first sent to and has now been 3 days for a 30 minute drive from that distribution center.

Had no clue, I should have saved all of those silver quarters. 
I have USPS deliveries occasionally that bounce all over the country. They get close, then take a road trip, sometimes getting close several times, then when actually making it to the local distribution, sit there for a while. I used to get mail delivered every day even if it was junk, now it seems only twice a week.
This is more common than I realized. Letter carrier walks by everyday but only delivers every other day. Friend in an apt complex gets box shoved full of incoming mail once a week.
Yup – that’s the norm anymore. We get days skipped frequently. There will be flags up on several boxes all around us and none of the mail picked up. Frustrating.
Too busy at their “other jobs” … the kinds of jobs Union people do for their partisan overlords.
We now have our mail delivered between 7 to 8 PM.

Expecting a bloodbath at FBI today and tomorrow. My guess is acting FBI director Brian Driscoll will be gone by this evening for defying a direct order seeking names of FBI employees—perhaps more than 6,000—involved in Jan 6 cases.
Hard to see how James Dennehy, who runs the NY FBI field office, keeps his job after sending defiant email to colleagues over the weekend promising to “dig in” and not step down or follow orders.
The NYT obtained the email.
Dennehy: “Today, we find ourselves in the middle of a battle of our own, as good people are being walked out of the F.B.I. and others are being targeted because they did their jobs in accordance with the law and F.B.I. policy,” Dennehy wrote.
Dennehy also said the removal of top officials including at Miami and Washington field offices have caused “fear and angst within the F.B.I. ranks.”
He compared his insubordination to being a Marine “in the early 1990s, when he dug a small foxhole five feet deep and hunkered down for safety.
“It sucked,” he wrote. “But it worked.”
Don’t think this is going to end well for Mr. Dennehy.
Also it’s unclear whether every FBI employee who worked on Jan 6 “terrorism” cases will be fired. My guess is many will be asked to take their “terrorism” expertise down to the southern border or other locations where real terror threats exist.

Russell Edwards says he has obtained a “100 per cent DNA match” linking the killer to Aaron Kosminski, a Polish barber who emigrated to London.

I don’t like reporting secondhand info, so take this with a grain of salt. I repeat: take this story of rich liberal panic with a grain of salt.
A liberal friend of mine has a very liberal friend—let’s call him Marko. Everybody loves him. He’s rich, always relaxed, has a ton of friends, never gets stressed. One of those guys who somehow never works but lives like a prince.
I described him to Grok to get his image and it’s fairly close except Marko has a touch of artistic or European flair.
To continue… we all assumed Marko was independently wealthy. Turns out… he wasn’t.
Now, Marko is in full meltdown mode. I mean terrified, panicking like his life is over. This guy—who’s always been the picture of joy—is freaking out so badly his friends are worried he’ll have a heart attack.
Why?
Apparently, Marko’s cushy life was funded by government grants. For what? Was he managing a USAID diversity grant to fund LGBTQ+ artists in the Congo that @DOGE just shut down? Who knows. Who cares. What I do know is that Marko does something with the government and nobody has ever seen Marko do anything that looks like work.
And here’s the kicker.
I live in a very liberal, very elite neighborhood. There are plenty of old-money trust fund types here. And yeah, they live stress-free lives, but most of them have at some point lost everything and had to claw their way back.
•Some lost fortunes in the Bernie Madoff collapse.
•Some were wiped out in 2008 and had to commute to Manhattan to claw themselves back doing something.
•Some burned through cash on failed startups before finally making it big.
That’s America—we churn through elites. Some rise, some fall, and when the old money collapses, it makes room for the new. This isn’t Europe.
So, Marko’s friends are trying to calm him down: “Don’t worry, Marko! We’ve all been there! You’ll rebuild! You’ll be okay”
But Marko isn’t listening. Because his fall isn’t gradual. It’s sudden.
See, old money collapses over time. Predictable. Manageable. But Marko? He had no skills. No confidence in his ability to earn.
Real elites plan for the fall—they stash away gold, art, Bitcoin, or something.
Marko? He was living paycheck to paycheck off the government grift. He never in a million years thought the money would stop flowing.
And maybe—I don’t know for sure—maybe his grift wasn’t legal. Maybe his benefactor in government is about to throw him under the bus for a plea deal.
I don’t know. I don’t care.
And please take this with a grain of salt. I’m drawing a lot of hypotheticals from a very short conversation that I was eager to disengage from because Marko’s troubles are not a concern of mine. And the very few times I’ve even seen Marko, I didn’t get a warm impression (maybe he sniffed out that I’m a Republican? IDK).
All I know is that Marko is in full-blown panic because for the first time in his life, he might have to get a real job and struggle to make a normal mortgage payment like the rest of us.
“Poor Marko,” they say.
My response? “I don’t care, Margaret.”
All that said… I do wonder how many other people like Marko are in full and absolute panic right now?
I’m ok if the answer is “all of them.” Anything less is half-measures.

I’m just a bit gunshy of our regulars not appearing regularly.
Ran a friend to the hospital. She had 3 seizures in 2 days. Wait time 5 hours. 
Also I had a reaction to the Prednisone prescribed for my breathing/inflamed lungs. It made my potassium levels drop like a rock. Calls to the health clinc (three) who prescribed it Wednesday were useless. They told me to go to emergency. 
I had a check-up 2 days later on Friday so the labs were already done within the last 24 hrs. I could not get a call back from the Primary care Dr though. Since I need to get rid of the inflammation ASAP before hay fever season, I am cutting the pills and taking them more frequently so I get the same net dose every 24 hours. I tolerated 5 mg a few years ago just fine, but 40 mg in one gulp?? HECK NO!
I completed the first day and so far, as long as I take potassium I do not have the symptoms.

I know someone that has potassium issues. They said, never let them put you on an IV with it. Super painful.
Liquid ionic potassium might be worth a look. However, this version may have too much NaCl for you. Of course, there are lots of food sources. My preference personally would probably be coconut water (real stuff without the fillers).

I had to watch my Granddaughter so my daughter could take her hubby to the ER as he’s been sick on & off for 2 weeks & had spiked his 3rd 105 temp that day (I didn’t get home til 3 am yesterday). SIL was diagnosed w/ pneumonia, bronchitis, & pink eye & given 3 prescriptions. Hope he’s on the mend quickly but he’s supposed to stay home for a week as he heals up.
