We should all remember Deplorable Patriot and Wheatie as we push forward with the fight. This is NOT over by any means.
Fight! Fight! Fight! Because JUSTICE must be served on those who foisted the “Vax” shit on us. And for all the other things they have done to this country.

You failed to pay attention to this advice.
You went out of your way to do the opposite.
You chose to rub our faces in it,
imprison those who dared complain,
and even to kill our people.
Now you shall pay just a tiny fraction of the real price, Ratfuckers.
What is it that feeds our battle, yet starves our victory?
RINO scum. Like Murkowski and Collins.
That’s OK. We go around ’em for now.
January 6 Tapes Reminder
OK…I’m sick and tired of reminding you to no effect, Speaker Johnson, so I’ll do the more emotionally satisfying thing and call you a cowardly, lying, fraudulent sack of diarrhetic monkey shit.
Johnson, you are a cowardly, lying, fraudulent sack of diarrhetic monkey shit!
A Caution
Just remember…we might replace the RINO candidates. (Or we might not. The record is mixed even though there is more MAGA than there used to be.) But that will make no difference in the long run if the party officials, basically the Rhonna McDaniels (or however that’s spelled–I suspect it’s RINO), don’t get replaced.
State party chairs, vice chairs, secretaries and so on, and the same at county levels, have huge influence on who ultimately gets nominated, and if these party wheelhorses are RINOs, they will work tirelessly to put their own pukey people on the ballot. In fact I’d not be surprised if some of our “MAGA” candidates are in fact, RINO plants, encouraged to run by the RINO party leadership when they realized that Lyn Cheney (and her ilk) were hopelessly compromised as effective candidates. The best way for them to deal with the opposition, of course, is to run it themselves.
Running good candidates is only HALF of the battle!
Justice Must Be Done.
The prior election must be acknowledged as fraudulent, and steps must be taken to prosecute the fraudsters and restore integrity to the system.
Lawyer Appeasement Section
OK now for the fine print.
This is the WQTH Daily Thread. You know the drill. There’s no Poltical correctness, but civility is a requirement. There are Important Guidelines, here, with an addendum on 20191110.
We have a new board – called The U Tree – where people can take each other to the woodshed without fear of censorship or moderation.
And remember Wheatie’s Rules:
1. No food fights
2. No running with scissors.
3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.
4. Zeroth rule of gun safety: Don’t let the government get your guns.
5. Rule one of gun safety: The gun is always loaded.
5a. If you actually want the gun to be loaded, like because you’re checking out a bump in the night, then it’s empty.
6. Rule two of gun safety: Never point the gun at anything you’re not willing to destroy.
7. Rule three: Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
8. Rule the fourth: Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

Paper Spot Prices
All prices are Kitco Ask, 3PM MT Friday (at that time the markets close for the weekend). (Note: most media quotes are for the bid…the price paid by the market makers, not the ask, which is what they will sell at. I figure the ask is more relevant to people like us who wish we could afford to buy these things. In the case of gold the difference is usually about a dollar, for the PGMs the spread is much wider.)
Last Week:
Gold $3,085.20
Silver $34.17
Platinum $993.00
Palladium $994.00
Rhodium $6,275.00
FRNSI* 148.247-
Gold:Silver 90.290-
This week, markets closed at 3PM Mountain Time Friday for the weekend.
Gold $3,038.80
Silver $29.56 (Yikes!!)
Platinum $931.00
Palladium $943.00
Rhodium $5,875.00
FRNSI* 146.002-
Gold:Silver 102.801- (Again, Yikes!!!)
There’s no sugarcoating things. All of the metals except gold took a beating on Thursday. Then on Friday things got simpler. All of the metals took a beating.
At one point on Friday, gold was down over 90 bucks. As it is, by the end of the day it was down $77.90.
Gold was up over 3100 earlier this week and even crossed the magic $100/gram line (equivalent to $3110.35). I noticed on Thursday it had slipped below that line just a touch, looked at it Friday morning, read something ending in 20-ish dollars, and thought it had blooped up over the line again…then I realized it hadn’t gone up ten bucks, it had gone down ninety.
Silver took a harder hit. Note that the gold:silver ratio is now OVER A HUNDRED.
As a side note at least sometimes I title this section Paper Spot Prices (or something similar to that) as the spot price is ultimately derived from the commodities markets, which in turn trade paper gold and silver; futures that you’re expected to sell to cut your losses (or realize a profit). Since most people are in that market to make a buck, there are huge amounts of silver or gold contracts out there that will never actually be executed. This is always true. It’s when someone decides, “no I am taking delivery” that life gets entertaining; sometimes a LOT of people do that and then the person on the sell side of the contract is legally obligated to deliver. So more than likely he has to go out and buy 1000 ounces of silver, or 100 of gold. (Or 50 of platinum, when that market isn’t in a coma.) Suddenly, outside of the futures market there’s panic buying; people desperate to get their hands on the commodity they shorted; often paying much more than the buyer is going to pay them.
This can often lead to the market price for physical metal being quite different from the spot prices; a few years ago you simply couldn’t get gold for less than $200 over spot (and that was when it was much lower than it is even after today’s beating).
In the meantime, Silver is on sale right now folks!
*The SteveInCO Federal Reserve Note Suckage Index (FRNSI) is a measure of how much the dollar has inflated. It’s the ratio of the current price of gold, to the number of dollars an ounce of fine gold made up when the dollar was defined as 25.8 grains of 0.900 gold. That worked out to an ounce being $20.67+71/387 of a cent. (Note gold wasn’t worth this much back then, thus much gold was $20.67 71/387ths. It’s a subtle distinction. One ounce of gold wasn’t worth $20.67 back then, it was $20.67.) Once this ratio is computed, 1 is subtracted from it so that the number is zero when the dollar is at its proper value, indicating zero suckage.
Not Giving A F*ck
Kalbo (and then others) brought this to yesterday’s daily:
There are multiple ways to not give a f*ck. In this particular case Trump has decided he has a job to do, that 80 million Americans (at least) elected him to do that job, and if you don’t get out of his way you will be lucky if all that happens is you end up with his footprints all over you as he tramples you.
Flerfs Eat Their Own
Nothing like leaving a cult to get those left behind to pull out the long knives. And sometimes you don’t even have to leave, just be nearby when someone else does.
Mark Sargent (he’s probably the most famous Flat Earther to the general public; he’s the fairly clean-cut, blond guy with the baseball cap who gets interviewed a lot and showed up in documentaries) and Dave Weiss (Flat Earth Dave, the Potato, Dirth [his channel is DITRH], the guy with the leaky app), and two other prominent Flerfs who have not been named–have been sent “Cease and Desist” letters by lawyers for three ex-Flerfs for claims the flerfs have made about them. (Text visible at approximately the 5:50 mark). One of ex-Flerfs is Patricia Steeres, who was Mark Sargent’s co-host until recently, then she left. (Mark has characterized it as a “breakup” even though they never dated.) The other two are Robby Davidson and “Paul on the Plane.” (These two are not ones I am familiar with except I think Robby Davidson is known for having quit Flat Earth as soon as he realized Dave Weiss and Eric Dubay had no interest in going to Antarctica in spite of saying so earlier. Too obviously they were bluffing and their bluff had been called.)
Did they cease and desist? Well, no. MC Toon did a livestream over 4 1/2 hours demonstrating that Sargent, at least, did not do so. I’m going to link it but I certainly don’t expect you to watch it unless you are an absolute glutton for punishment:
[Another fun activity on these long MC Toon livestreams is he has people sign into the chat and try to warn people that Dirth’s app is leaky, just to see how fast their comments get censored and themselves get banned. Clearly Menagerie is in their employ. He will also call the Flerfs up and leave taunting voicemails when they don’t answer.]
Next…some Flerfs are going after Lisbeth Acosta. Lisbeth is the Flerf who won a free trip to Antarctica, which turned out to be a sham prize. Will Duffy was suckered into awarding it and then the donor turned out to be a Flerf troll. There was an INSTANT rallying of globers to contribute to pay for her ticket so she got to go anyway. Apparently what she saw did not convince her, though since she decided to be Mark Sargent’s co host when Patricia Steeres left. (McToon begged her not to take the job.)
Sticking with Flat Earth isn’t enough though, since Fkatzoid decided to go after her.
Apparently, Lisbeth was prostituted out to the other Final Experiment goers to get them to toe the Globe Earth line when they came back. Fkatzoid calls her the “Village Bicycle.” This too is worthy of a lawsuit, however Fkatzoid lives in South Africa and has no money. (His job is mixing paints.) Perhaps some of the others can be gone after.
So not only is this guy the absolute best evidence for the Dunning-Kruger effect that I have ever seen (remember he argued against Critical Think’s weight experiment, and also go into it with Will Duffy about the location of the south pole), he is an absolutely shitty individual who would deserve a throat punch and a curb stomp even if he wasn’t an idiot.
Isochron Dating
Recall from last time that uranium-lead dating done on zircons lets one assume there were no daughter lead isotopes in the zircons when the zircons were first formed. That’s because the zircon crystallization process rejects lead while accepting uranium. However, there’s always the possibility that after some period some of the daughter isotopes (the lead) will leach out of the zircon crystals, which will have the effect of making the dating result look younger than it actually is.
The fact that there are two different pairs of uranium-lead parent-daughter isotopes allows us not only to detect that that has happened, but to correct for it, by taking several samples out of the same igneous rocks and then plotting the results on a “concordia diagram” then drawing a straight line to intercept the curve plotted for ideal cases where no lead has been lost.
Zircons can often turn out to be much older than the rocks they are in; they melt at a very high temperature and granitic magma doesn’t typically get that hot. So if you find a zircon in an igneous rock, it might be much older than that rock.
So to use uranium-lead dating in other places (not zircon crystals) we need a way to account for the likelihood that there was lead present in the rock when it formed. Then uranium lead dating can be used in more situations. And we can use it for other sequences, for example the rubidium-strontium decay (rubidium-87 to strontium-87 by beta decay, half life 49,720 million years; rubidium is element 37, strontium is element 38) and the samarium-neodymium decay (samarium-147 to neodymium-143 by alpha decay, half life 106,000 million years; samarium is element 62, neodymium is element 60). (There is another isotope of samarium, Sm-146, that has a half life of 92 million years, decaying by alpha decay to Nd-142, which could conceivably be used, however, that half life is just short enough that we can no longer detect any natural traces of samarium-146…so that clock has run out.)
All three sequences–four, really since there are two uranium-lead sequences–can benefit from isochron dating. (Isochron comes from the Greek for “same time.”) They aren’t the only ones, but they seem to be mentioned most often when I find an article about isochron dating.
Isochron dating is done by taking multiple samples. It works so long as: the samples all have the same origin (minerals from the same rock, rocks from the same geological unit)–this ensures that all samples had the same initial isotopic composition. And we assume nothing leaks out of the rock over time (the opposite of the situation with the zircon crystals, which could lose lead over time).
Note that there is no assumption that the daughter isotope was absent from the rock initially.
One more thing that is needed, is a non-radiogenic isotope of the daughter element. For rubidium-strontium strontium-86 fits the bill; nothing decays into that isotope. And for samarium-neodymium, neodymium-144 is used. Again nothing decays into it. (However, it is very slightly radioactive with a half life of 2,290,000,000 million years, about 170,000 times the age of the universe. Not enough to matter; in fact so little of it has decayed so far we can’t even think of using it for dating in a hypothetical neodymium-cerium dating sequence; we’d get no reading at all.)
Let me put that into a handy-dandy table:
Method
Rb-87->Sr-87
Sm-147->Nd-143
U-238->Pb-206
Half-life (My)
49,720
106,000
4,468
Non-radiogenic or reference isotope
strontium-86
neodymium-144
lead-204
Rubidium and strontium are admittedly obscure to the man in the street, but they are workaday elements, appearing to some extent in many rocks. Rubidium is potassium’s big brother, somewhat rare but it will substitute for potassium in minerals. Strontium, similarly is calcium’s bigger brother. Calcium is very common in the Earth’s crust, and strontium atoms will occasionally substitute for them. These elements are stable, or thought of as being stable, but as it happens 27.8 percent of all rubidium is actually rubidium-87, so your typical sample of rubidium is actually weakly radioactive. The daughter strontium-87 isotope is 7 percent of all strontium, while the reference isotope Sr-86 is 9.86 percent of all strontium. (Almost all the rest of the strontium is Sr-88.)
Samarium and neodymium are rare earth elements…yes, actually rare earths. They tend to be dispersed throughout the crust and there are few ores. Nevertheless, “rare” is a bit of misnomer; on average there is about three times as much samarium in the crust as there is tin. 15 percent of all samarium is samarium-147 (which means that samarium-147 by itself is roughly half as common as tin), but with a 106 billion year half life, you can probably think of it as just barely radioactive. The decay product, Nd-143, is roughly 12.2 percent of all neodymium, and the reference isotope, Nd-144, is 23.8 percent of all neodymium (and is very, very, very weakly radioactive).
So yes these isotopes can be found in rocks, fairly readily.
How Isochrons Work
Recall from last time we showed formulae expressing radioactive decay just showing the simple case where we started out with no daughter isotope. Here is a slightly more complex formula for the number of daughter isotope atoms:
This one has a D0 term, which is the initial concentration of daughter isotope atoms; i.e., what was in the rock when it formed. n is the present number of parent isotope atoms. The entire second term is the number of daughter isotope atoms that have resulted from the decay of the parent isotope, from the formation of the rock to the present day. Note that this formula is written in terms of the decay constant, not the half life. See the prior post for more information on this, but it’s 1 divided by [the half life multiplied by the natural logarithm of 2].
Since the isotopes are measured by mass spectrometry, it’s more convenient to deal with the ratios between the numbers, not the absolute numbers. So here is where we introduce the reference isotope (the non-radiogenic one); we’re going to divide all terms by that number, to get a bunch of isotope ratios.
The first term is the total amount of daughter isotope, divided by the total amount of the reference (non-radiogenic) isotope. This is something we measure. The second term is the initial amount of daughter isotope, divided by the amount of reference isotope. We don’t know this, because we don’t know the initial amount of daughter isotope. (But note, we’re not claiming this number is zero, as we were with the zircons.) The third parentheses surround the amount of parent isotope today, divided by the amount of reference isotope. This is something we can measure. The final bit is the proportion of daughter isotope generated by decay (so far) of the parent isotope; which depends on the age, which we don’t know.
But this is very very similar to:
y = b + xm
…which is the “generic” equation for a line (albeit rearranged a bit). b is where the line crosses the y axis, and m is the slope of the line. So if we substitute as follows:
y = D*/Dref (we measure this)
b = D0/Dref (we don’t know this but it’s constant for a given rock)
x = Pt/Dref (we measure this)
m = eλt – 1 (we don’t know this but it’s constant for a given rock)
…well we might be able to do something about this. Note that in the line equation, b and m are supposed to be constants. Indeed for a specific rock, of some age (which we don’t know yet), D0/Dref (b) is indeed a constant; it should be the same everywhere within the rock. As should eλt – 1 because every part of a given rock is the same age, this is m. Of course m is the slope of our straight line. Note that it gets steeper the higher t goes.
The two things that correspond to x and y are the things we actually measure. So we can plot our measured y against our measured x and now we have one point on this line. Well by itself one point isn’t useful. We expect m will be a positive number, and b will be above zero (since there is more than zero daughter isotope in the rock)
So take another sample, of a different mineral in the same rock. Then take a few more. Plot them, y versus x.
If all of those points fall on a straight line…we can draw the line and figure out m and b. The first will tell us how old the rock is (by solving for t), the second is actually going to tell you how much daughter isotope there was initially; information that might be interesting but doesn’t directly help us date the rock.
If the line is not straight, something probably happened to the rock after it formed, that invalidates our assumptions. If you have six points and only one is out of line, you can treat it as an outlier (but of course when you write up your paper, you point this out!).
Examples
Here’s a sample (apparently not a “live” sample but just an illustration). Note that different minerals from the same rock are all analyzed, as well as “whole rock”

The X axis is the present day parent (rubidium 87) – reference (strontium-86) ratio (matching what I showed above as being “x”), and the Y axis is the daughter (strontium 87) to reference (strontium-86) isotope ratio. The y intercept is labeled as being the initial daughter/reference ratio; that tells us how much daughter isotope there was originally. And the slope is our decay term, the steeper the slope, the higher the value of t is.
Here’s an actual plot from a real measurement. Note that three of the minerals tested are clustered very close together near the left hand margin, and the computed ratio of daughter isotope present at the beginning, to the reference isotope, is 70 percent. And finally notice the age: 609.5 million years (give or take 2.5 million years).

So the short version of this is, isochrons can help you identify and correct for the sorts of things that those with a little bit of knowledge of radiometric dating might bring up as objections, of the form “but what if there was some daughter isotope already present?” But it will only work if the rock hasn’t lost any daughter isotope since it was formed; if it has, the line won’t be straight. The good news is when this happens, the data says it happened, and if you’re alert you won’t be fooled.
A bit more of this (I want to cover potassium-argon dating in particular, and then discuss carbon-14 dating even though it’salmost totally irrelevant to geology) and we’ll get back to the main narrative.
Right on time.
I kicked it out manually.
Did we miss getting some pictures near the end?
I see two plots. Which is all I did.
Under Examples, you seem to introduce two plots with “Here’s a sample” and “Here’s an actual plot….”
I don’t see either one in either Mozilla or Brave.
Those are the plots. OK let me see WTF is going on.
OK running bonestock firefox and bonestock brave…in disposables, so its as if they’re both being born…I have no trouble seeing my plots. And no I am not logged in from those VMs
I have certain domains routed to hell (e.g. msnbc.com) — what do the links look like? I’ll see if I can dig ’em.

Remove spaces of course.
Required a cloudflare “confirm if you are human”.
Eventually got to see it in Brave.
After accessing the first one, the second one came up without a problem.
Figuring that the first successful access had maybe dropped a cookie, I opened a new tab in Brave and tried the post again, but the two plots were still missing.
Meanwhile for whatever reason I never once saw a captcha, not on this VM when I found them, not on either my bonestock firefox VM nor my bonestock brave VM.
For some reason, many captcha systems initially classify me as an eldritch horror.
Can someone else please weigh in and confirm that they can or cannot see these two plots?
Not there, but talking about them seems fun.
Thank you, para.
Okay, Steve — try echoing them out somewhere with no CAPTCHA.
LoL
I can see them, but I decided to upload them to the media library so we don’t lose them later. You may be able to see them with a reload.
We. Now. Have. Plotz!
TY, Wolf — thanks, Steve, the article is better with the plots in place; thanks to Para for help in the debug; and I beg the indulgence of the rest of the pack.
No problem!
No, something needed fixing and you were right to bring it up.
OBTW when I started writing this one, I tried looking up the theory behind isochrons. And pretty much the last thing they said was “it looks like y=mx+b, so they do a plot” and I was annoyed because it sounded like they had just stopped explaining. “Do a plot how?!”
Then I realized that was really it. What was confusing me was the “standard diagram of how an isochron works” generally showed three different lines on it, to illustrate three different ages. And so I couldn’t see the point, how you could get an age off of the diagram. What do you do with the three lines?
For instance, here:
Once I realized that, OH, now it’s a lot simpler than it looks.
But it left me having to go past wikipedia to find example diagrams that didn’t do this. I don’t know how I got those without capcha interference.
I did try to upload before publishing–that button that uploads everything you linked.
However, it always fails for some reason and today was no exception.
Thanks for fixing it.
Very interesting! Thanks for that info. I’ll look into it.
I uploaded an image in the last couple of hours and the Media page appeared to just stare unblinkingly at me. However, reloading the Media page revealed that both uploads had succeeded. I deleted the extra copy.
This is very typical of the media page after it has sat too long without being refreshed. It simply doesn’t update from the database.
Just tuned in.
Both crystal clear on whatever version Firefox is on my laptop.
I see them fine, in Brave
DJT cuts IRS by 25%
.
Do moar!!!
IRS cut by 25% GREAT news! Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of shitheads.
The 25% cut, I HOPE, is in addition to shit-canning the 87,000 armed goons Maggot created
Isochron is a new word for me, and it perfectly describes its function.
to be honest, (whispering: and don’t tell Steve) I bypassed that section. after hearing about trans/lesbian/furry/whatever dating and mating crap for years…I’m out of curiosity about anyone’s dating process.
My lips are sealed.
you’re a saint, thanks!
Isochron dating is when you reach her curfew (hence the “time’) and can’t be together any more (Iso-lated).
I realize you probably enjoyed my definition of lead-uranium dating a bit more.
Here is how Axelrod’s commie-captured NBC presents it – with loads of leftist hand-wringing.
https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/national-international/doj-official-says-was-fired-opposing-restoration-mel-gibsons-gun-rights/6181230/
This was a beautiful strategy to get a POS out of DOJ.
Mel Gibson is a person I would completely trust with a firearm. Just knowing that he is a serious person, I would stand on a range with him, with loaded weapons, any time. I would be his neighbor. I would let him take care of the kids.
This is a “no-f’n-brainer”.
So they ask this lady to put an obvious candidate on the list, she balks.
She doesn’t realize – it’s not a question of undue influence to put an undeserving person on the list. It’s a question of her own bias – why a deserving person was NOT already on the list. And when he was not put on there – when she refused – they her new superiors knew – she was NOT going to play ball with this new administration’s view of gun rights.
This is how to RIFLE-SHOOT key troublemakers out of DOJ. Challenge them to perform against their own unconscious bias against reasonable presidential changes in policy, and when they balk, FIRE THEIR ASSES.
Prolly an unpopular perspective with some, or more…
Canceling 2A Rights IS FUBAR. Full Stop. FUBAR.
I think that was the test she flunked.
I remember when it didn’t happen. I’m that old! Before crypto-communism, if somebody served their time, they paid their debt to society. If somebody was still not trusted, they had to be committed by a court process to a mental institution. Because YEAH, those existed.
I remember being surprised the first time I heard about people losing their 2A rights.
LOCAL GUN SHOP near Gibson’s residence suddenly out of stock.
“More than 94% of all stock is owned by just 8% of the US population.”
____________
I don’t believe that’s true, considering pension funds, passive investment retirement accounts, IRAs, etc.
Just searched it, and this was the A.I. response at the top of the search results:
………………….
“Pension Funds Stock Holdings
They are significant investors in the stock market, holding around one-tenth of the equity capital of America’s publicly owned companies, according to a 1991 article from Harvard Business Review.”
………………….
Add to that tens of millions of individual or ‘retail’ investors.
Who are CNBC’s and Fox Business’ viewers, and The Wall Street Journal’s readers? And the millions of subscribers to hundreds (thousands?) of yootoob financial channels?
It’s not institutional investors, they don’t rely on mainstream business news propaganda, they pay for real data.
It is not true if Bessent is to be believed per Tucker’s interview. It is 88% of equities are held by the top 10% wealthiest, 12% by he next 40% and basically nothing by the remaining 50%.
I think that statistic is based on the number of shares held (or more likely, the value of shares held) not on the number of people holding stock. There are millions of stock holders in America but each one holds a relatively small number of shares each. Wealthy Americans hold a large number of shares relative to their number.
Indeed.
94 percent held by 8 percent. We’re not part of that 8 percent, no matter what our 401K balances might read.
“This is to cause extreme volatility in the markets and a desperate need and demand to flee towards treasury bonds which are much more stable but offer much lower potential return.”
_____________
Yes, like a negative real rate of return.
With real world inflation / debasement of the dollar at around 14%, you have to get a return of 14% just to break even.
Otherwise people are losing purchasing power every year.
Bessent’s stock ownership % in the Tucker interview was different, but other than that the poster has the concept correct. It is not just domestic sources moving to treasuries, many international sources will be buying as well as PDT has upset the applecart in many other economies around the world. That influx crashes the current bond market rates and the prospects for higher inflation from the tariffs. Powell plays ball or FAFO.
Putting this down here to address the ideas above attached to the stock market so not directed to you TB2. As Scott pointed out the stock market is tied to all assets of the economies around the world. Investments big and small to jobs and manufacturing. I’d not expect to see much rocking of that boat as Trump is going to use it to keep the economy afloat. He might want to see some turbulence to get rates lower, but he’s not out to bring the stock market down. The alternative would be pure communism, and I doubt he wants to take us there.
It has come to this…
All the President has to do is ask We the People to stand up and stop them.
The word ‘try’ won’t be any part of the equation.
Neither will hesitancy.
So they just need one more shovel, and an actual reason to dig the hole, and they’re good to go.
I love it!

Many Aussies have the smug Brit type snob approach. It goes with the commonwealth. It’s the same snob shiz that the colonists endured.
Nothing worse than dumbazzes who think they are higher on the food chain than they are. I have zero desire to save them from the error of their ways.
Actually, we are all the exact same on the food chain. Some people just think they are higher than the rest of us. But we all answer to God.

Envy breeds contempt and resentment.
Derision becomes an expression of your impotence.
It’s all you can do.
All because you gave up the Gun.
You gave up the great Equalizer.
“So, you may ask – if we’re not very aligned ideologically, then it must be that we bring something to the party militarily?”
____________
No, that would never have occurred to me to ask.
Your people have given up the right to bear arms — which means guns, until something better comes along.
And without a gun culture, without embracing the fundamental reason to keep and bear arms — which is to overthrow a tyrannical government — your People become submissive by definition — and your leaders become totalitarian, by default.
Because that’s human nature, so it happens every single time, everywhere, without exception — power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Without guns, the People, and the will of the People, become irrelevant, because you are powerless.
There is nothing you can do to stop the tyranny.
The People seem to forget that so easily.
Tyrants never do.
Beautiful essay.
“How many young British men are willing to fight for their country?”
___________
You have plenty of men in Britain who are willing to fight your country.
With more coming in every day.
Unfortunately, they’re not there to fight for your country to be British.
Right, I left out the word ‘for’ intentionally…

Similar across Europe…Germany, France…encourage Muzzies to invade their countries…as Muzzies increasingly Impose Islam ways…
Freedom. Rights. Evaporating across Europe. The EU neutered most of Europe.
The EU’s plan has achieved their intended results there. Thankfully, MAGA has killed it dead here. We are in the clean-up on aisle 7 phase.
I see what you did…or rather, didn’t do, there.
“They let China have their way everywhere from Germany to Greenland, all the while importing Islam and sending their own people to court for saying hurty words.”
____________
Your governments have forced feminism on your own male population, effectively castrating them, while they allow the islamic invaders to be hyperviolent, and treat women — including your own — like chattel.
So accurate.
Americans are DIFFERENT. ALL Americans. Even the leftist ones who have no idea how different they are.
That’s how a purple-haired lesbian lawyer can cry “free Palestine!” Because in her very BONES she has no idea what a Palestinian would do to her.
It’s so anathema to the American mind. Intellectually, some people think they get it. But they really don’t, because freedom is BUILT IN to the American mind.
I don’t think Japan or India is in that big of a bind.
It’s a political cartoon, not a teaching manual.

That is nuts!
In the Nowheresville, Madagascar video I brought yesterday, Kalbo had noted that it mentioned the Madagascar/India separation about 90 million years ago and had Steve talking about doing more “surfing the drift”…..but it also mentioned (at the same time) dating the local rocks using isotopes.
Yes! They said that uranium-lead dating had been used.
Don’t give Pat Frederick any ideas.
I’m not listening…

Madagascar is just a wonderful place overall…..
There are cichlids found native in India (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_chromide); cichlids found in Madagascar; cichlids found in Africa; and cichlids found in South America, Central America, and as far north as Texas. This distribution provides indications of how the continents were arrayed at the time of cichlid development, and how the continents have shifted afterward.
And I posted rather after the end of the day, about the little white dogs of Madagascar. They don’t need any special dating methods. We know the general range of years there were tall ships with little white dogs aboard sailing around the world. (https://www.petmd.com/dog/breeds/coton-de-tulear)
What is interesting is how these small feisty creatures with really long hair manage to live in the wild and still keep themselves groomed without a doggy hair parlor anywhere in sight.
I know that some long-haired breeds in Europe become naturally matted when their hair grows out, and you’re supposed to leave them that way. It looks a lot like ornamented dreadlocks. I don’t remember the names of the breeds, but I’ve posted about them before.
Komondor:

Thank you! This is one of them. Another one has more plate-like matting, and I think it’s either alpine or from the Pyrenees.

and give him patience to follow all the directions
that his doctors, therapists and nurses give him.
May Your wonderful, glorious, amazing grace and peace surround him.

On the subject of keeping cichlid fish, I can introduce the Tilapia buttikoferi. I can remember a kid having a picture done in a fish room where one of these fish was trying to chew its way through the tank into the back of the kid’s head.

Poor Anna, you are being used by the Democrats to bring back proxy voting when you are clearly, in your own words, against people receiving taxpayer funded paychecks working from home.
In the 117th Congress (you weren’t with us yet because you had lost your election) Speaker Pelosi allowed proxy voting.
And it became the Democrats greatest tool to accomplish their agenda.
Many of the Democrats stayed home, proxy voted, and handed their voting cards over to Democrat leadership which allowed them to ram through their destructive Democrat agenda and by simply casting all the votes they needed to do it because they had the majority.
And it’s incredibly naive to believe your Democrat friends that proxy voting will only be kept to maternity leave.
This is Pandora’s box and members of Congress will want more reasons to proxy vote like sick leave, family occasions, and on and on.
They already talk about it!
Serving in Congress is a privilege, not a career choice.
If you need a job with better perks like maternity leave then step down and allow someone else to serve in your place.
Having children and prioritizing them over politics is certainly respectable and worthy.
But you should not be fighting 96% of Republicans, your own party, to change the way Congress has worked from our founding.
You should be fighting this hard for what the American people voted for, Trump’s agenda!
So like you said.
“This is ABSURD.”

On the lighter side…

Screaming?
I’m not sure screaming is typical of surgery…
How would you know, they sedate the patient. The doctor could be screaming all day long, and who would know any different?
Oh wait, usually the main-scream media is the ones sedating the consumers so we don’t know we are being cut open and messed with, right?
The now-deaf anesthesiologist, of course.
LOL that woman’s face.

Verse of the Day for Saturday, April 5, 2025
✟
“And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.”
Luke 14:27 (KJV)
COMMENTARY FOR LUKE 14
25-35 Though the disciples of Christ are not all crucified, yet they all bear their cross, and must bear it in the way of duty. Jesus bids them count upon it, and then consider of it. Our Saviour explains this by two similitudes; the former showing that we must consider the expenses of our religion; the latter, that we must consider the perils of it. Sit down and count the cost; consider it will cost the mortifying of sin, even the most beloved lusts. The proudest and most daring sinner cannot stand against God, for who knows the power of his anger? It is our interest to seek peace with him, and we need not send to ask conditions of peace, they are offered to us, and are highly to our advantage. In some way a disciple of Christ will be put to the trial. May we seek to be disciples indeed, and be careful not to grow slack in our profession, or afraid of the cross; that we may be the good salt of the earth, to season those around us with the savour of Christ.
Commentary by Matthew Henry, 1710.

Thank You, Jesus, for blessings received and prayers answered !!!
WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
PLEASE PRAY FOR ABUSED, MISSING, AND TRAFFICKED CHILDREN
BE MY VOICE
JESUS LOVES THE LITTLE CHILDREN
CHILD NOT CHOICE
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
AMEN!
PLEASE PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER
MAPA = MAKE AMERICA PRAY AGAIN
COME BACK TO ME
Why are you under distress and duress
Why are you living with sorrow and stress
Are you allowing the world to dictate
What you must do in your current state
Why do you suffer needlessly alone
Why do you cry and worry and bemoan
Do you not know I AM with you right now
Can you not see I AM here and know how
War in the spirit with evil is dire
But soon their effect will expire
It is I who controls this world not them
It is I who will have the last word ahem
Do you believe in my begotten Son
Do you know what He has already done
He defeated death arose from the dead
Because of Him you have nothing to dread
Do you believe I freed all those captive
Do you recall their foe is now inactive
I delivered them from bondage and strain
And I promised I would do it again
When the Spirit dwells in the believer
There’s no power stronger or reliever
I’ve given you dominion over all
I expect you to fight and to stand tall
Come Back to Me and do not be afraid
My Son conquered all a high price He paid
So you could live in abundance and be
Productive and Joyful Come Back to Me

HAVE A VERY BLESSED DAY !!!

Blue rot is real.
I have my own theories about this. I think a lot of people don’t even know or care about judicial races, and just skip over them with no vote at all.
I actually heard someone from Wisconsin on the radio the week before the election saying she and no one she knew was even aware there was an important judicial race on the ballot until she heard about it that day, and called the radio show.
The Demoncrats mobilize the vote. The Repukes don’t do it well. That’s just a fact.
Yes, I think you’re right. Demmunists are aggressive with slate cards for their voters, at every polling location, and by mail.
This is probably why they love to hold municipal elections in April.
Who’s thinking about elections in APRIL for f*cks sake?
Hardly anybody.
This was my thought the instant I heard the ‘results’.
so yesterday we were told by PDJT that something big would be revealed before he left yesterday. and it was bad–anyone heard anything yet?
Nothing here, but then I don’t check the FAKE NEWS for their latest outrage by Trump!

BREAKING:
This makes me physically ILL.
This also why the left is losing it over Elon Musk auditing their grift.
Aaron Heitke, the U.S. Border Chief with experience spanning five administrations, has unequivocally confirmed that the Biden-Harris administration directed him to suppress, hide, and alter data related to the border crisis.
He claims he was instructed to intentionally reduce detention capacity across the country while simultaneously issuing new Social Security numbers to undocumented immigrants.
According to Heitke, this enabled them to access full Social Security benefits and Medicaid, facilitated their voter registration, and ultimately PERMITTED them to CAST VOTES in U.S. ELECTIONS.
And there it is.

Thank you.
So, since these were — and still are — illegal aliens, can they have their SS cards, their voter IDs, and other benefits available to LEGAL American citizens removed — and deport them?
one would hope so!
I hope so, BUT, if the corrupt Judges have a say,
NO!
This explains the paid protests happening today.
hell yeah they SHOULD!
See I’ve been saying USAID being gone won’t be an impediment for something they’re willing to pay for, because they sure can afford to.

NEW: Dr. Oz drops bombshells on the massive waste, fraud, and abuse bleeding Medicare and Medicaid—exposing a system that’s losing billions while nobody’s watching the books.
“Let me give you some numbers, and I’m going to keep you up tonight.”
What followed was a cascade of shocking revelations about how brokers, bureaucrats, and bad actors are exploiting two of America’s biggest healthcare programs—with ordinary taxpayers footing the bill.
Oz laid it all out: brokers enrolling people without their knowledge, states using federal money to cover illegal immigrants, and patients being counted multiple times across different states.
Then came the truth bombs:
“Last year, we had 230,000 Americans who are on the Affordable Care Act, the Obamacare plans, who didn’t know it! They found out when the IRS agents called up and said: ‘You guys have this free program in your family, did you know you have it?’”
“Brokers had given them these programs, made money off the U.S. Government—they had no idea it happened.”
“The state of California has taken tens of billions of dollars from the federal government providing ‘free health insurance’ for illegal immigrants in California.”
“We are going to get that money back!”
“There are programs like this that we’re witnessing day in and day out, where Medicaid patients are enrolled in multiple states and the federal government doesn’t know about it.”
“So we pay every state for the same person, but we’re not getting our money’s worth—but those people aren’t getting their health either.”

Somebody had to go first. Many will follow.
I trained myself long ago to “be first” in any given situation. Humans tend to look around at the crowd, waiting for someone else to put themselves out there, and go first. If someone does, in almost every situation, others will quickly follow. These brave women will have much company very soon, I believe. And then it’s a snowball hurtling downhill. It won’t be stopped.
Bitcoin is probably the most asymmetrical trade of our lifetime, and most people literally cannot see it, for mostly psychological reasons.
I had the exact same problem around 2011 when I first heard about it. And in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
When covid happened, and stocks crashed, and nobody knew if the world as we knew it was ending, I was scouring the Interwebs to get a sense of what it meant for the markets.
If I had to distill Bitcoin down to it’s most critical or important attribute, it would be scarcity.
It is scarcity that distinguishes Bitcoin from all other cryptos, and from all other commodities.
There is a finite amount of Bitcoin available.
So it’s like musical chairs.
Once all the seats are taken, if you’re still standing, the game is over for you. No more chairs will be added to the game.
If the price of gold doubles, exploration and mining will explode, and over the course of the following year or two, much more gold will flood into the market, to meet the increased demand, and prices will find equilibrium again, eventually.
The same is true of any other commodity on earth. If demand spikes, increased production follows, to satisfy demand.
Except Bitcoin.
Even if the price of Bitcoin went to $100 million per Bitcoin tomorrow, there is nothing anyone could do to produce more of it.
The production is fixed at 450 Bitcoin per day until the next halving in 2028, when production drops to 225 per day. In 2032 production drops to 112.5 per day. Every 4th year, the production is cut in half.
No matter how high the price goes, it is not possible to increase production to meet demand, which means if demand suddenly increases, the price goes vertical.
For the first 14 years of Bitcoin history, it was mostly a retail investment vehicle. For reasons of regulation, unclear accounting rules and other reasons, big institutions were largely uninvolved.
Then in 2024, Larry Fink and Blackrock, along with Fidelity and about 10 other companies, were able to get Bitcoin ETFs approved, even with the Brandon administration and Gary Gensler opposing it every step of the way.
The other big development was Michael Saylor’s company, MicroStrategy, recently rebranded simply ‘Strategy’ (ticker remains MSTR). MSTR essentially became a Bitcoin holding company, and they now have over 500,000 Bitcoin. By next Monday, they may have more Bitcoin than all the governments in the world combined.
So MSTR has become a proxy for Bitcoin.
At this point, people have three good options to obtain Bitcoin, or exposure to Bitcoin:
1) actual Bitcoin, which is somewhat complicated to acquire, and unfamiliar to anyone new
2) ETFs, which most people are already familiar with and are easy to buy via a broker or directly through on online broker account
3) MSTR, which is a publicly traded company on the stock exchanges, so it is easy to buy, and has certain advantages over ETFs (while also being somewhat more volatile).
Now, with DJT creating a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve, nation state game theory is triggered.
Every competitor nation to America (which is all of them, ‘ally’ and adversary alike) will need to create their own Bitcoin reserve, because they cannot afford to let America get it all, in the same way no competitor to the U.S. could ever allow America to own all the gold in the world.
When sovereign wealth funds and nation states are buying large amounts of Bitcoin, the price must go up, because production cannot be increased to meet the demand.
From a retail perspective, ~$100K per Bitcoin (currently $83K) may seem astronomical.
But to big institutions, nation states and sovereign wealth funds, the higher it goes, the more attractive it becomes.
At $83K per Bitcoin, the total Bitcoin market cap is ‘only’ around $1.66 trillion.
For comparison, the current gold bullion market cap is about $21 trillion.
It is much easier for BIG investors to buy and sell large quantities of gold without moving the market violently, than it is for them to buy or sell large quantities of Bitcoin, because the Bitcoin total market cap is currently much smaller.
As the market cap of Bitcoin grows, it only becomes easier for the big players to be involved in that market.
Bitcoin has room to grow 12.5x just to match gold’s market cap, but it won’t stop there.
Bitcoin is already siphoning off investment dollars from the huge fixed income (bond) market, and the real estate market, which together are hundreds of trillions of dollars in market cap, because Bitcoin performs better than either asset and has much less risk.
With the ridiculous amount of debt that nearly all nations have today, and debasement of currency, their bonds get riskier and riskier (including ours, though ours are somewhat protected because we have world reserve currency status).
Real estate has all kinds of costs involved (property tax, insurance, management), headaches (renters, lawsuits), and risks, including demographic risk (hope your property isn’t in a blue city where people are fleeing from), political risk (again, hope your property isn’t in a blue city), etc.
Bitcoin eliminates all of that risk and expense.
And it’s pristine collateral. And unlike real estate which takes months to liquidate, Bitcoin can be liquidated instantly, 24/7/365.
The majority of the general population is unaware of most of these things, hasn’t even thought about them, which is why the opportunity still exists. It’s still early.
The ETFs and promotion of Bitcoin by Larry Fink of Blackrock, who I think is the biggest money manager in the world, was a huge endorsement and catalyst for Bitcoin.
An endorsement only trumped by Trump, and his recent announcement (executive order) for the creation of a United States Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.
No asset class has ever been so directly endorsed by a sitting President of the United States.
So the game is afoot.
It would not be a bad idea, IMO, to have just a little Bitcoin, as a long term investment, in at least one of the 3 forms mentioned above, two of which are easy (the ETFs and MSTR).
How much is the ‘right’ amount?
Most financial advisors who even talk about gold as insurance for an investment portfolio recommend at least 5% and often 10% (or more, depending on the global financial conditions), the idea being that if the rest (e.g., 90%) of your portfolio crashes due to some national or global crisis, the 10% in gold should increase in value enough to offset the stock market losses.
Bitcoin is digital Gold, so the same reasoning applies.
One might consider 5% gold and 5% Bitcoin for a total of 10% portfolio ‘insurance’, and another 5% of each for growth.
Or one might consider 10% gold and 10% Bitcoin for portfolio insurance (works out the same).
It depends on one’s comfort level with each asset. Comfort level increases with knowledge and understanding. As comfort level increases, it may be appropriate to increase allocations.
The last time I talked to my college roommate, I said suppose you have $100K saved up for retirement, just to pick a round number.
If you allocated 5% ($5,000) to Bitcoin, and Bitcoin went to zero, you would hardly notice. It wouldn’t endanger your retirement. You would still have 95% of what you started with.
But if that little amount of Bitcoin ($5,000) goes 10x in value over the next few years — which it has done several times before and should certainly do several more times again — your retirement funds go from $100K to $150K.
In that scenario, your downside risk is limited to $5,000. That’s the most you can lose, if Bitcoin went to zero. But your upside is $50,000 or more. Possibly much more, depending on your time horizon.
Bitcoin is volatile, but it’s becoming less volatile over time, as its market cap grows.
And because of the 4-year cycle and the ‘halving’ every four years, no one has ever lost money, if they held their Bitcoin for at least 4 years.
So risk can be limited, while potential gain is very high.
That is the nature of an asymmetrical risk/reward trade.
Not financial advice, just thinking out loud
You think out loud a lot.
And often persuasively.
And just like that, about 30 seconds after I posted, my PC spontaneously shut down and rebooted, for no apparent reason.
So much wisdom in Malone’s post below.
DW taught me back in 87, do NOT carry CC debt. I never saw it . She did.
2007 /2008 crash, we learned to hell with stocks / 401K… Only stuff we had after that crash was IF, there were matching funds from employer.
No keeping up with the Jones’s, bs frivolous spending. No latest styles, cool “in” crap.
Our financial perspective largely mirrors Malone’s thoughts.
Liberating. Stress free or certainly minimal stress life style.
So ture, dept free is the key. And faith in God!
He proved to me he can take literally nothing and turn it into something.
There’s a story in there…..
I hope you choose to share more of this story, as God leads…
Try not to get involved in 401K’’s if possible. Your firm’s matching money should be compared to the fees your account incurs.
And you are stuck with the
parasite’sbroker’s ‘model’.Find a good independent broker and trade privately, IMHO.
In hindsight, 100% agree.
Wish I knew then, what I learned the hard way.
Would have purchased unimproved real estate and or metals.
Likely in the minority with this perspective.
Evening Prayer For Forgiveness
Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.
Give me a good night’s sleep I pray, knowing that there is no condemnation because I am in Christ, and may I wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to do Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.

Evening Prayer For Future Guidance
Heavenly Father, as I lie down to sleep tonight, I pray that You would guard my sleeping and protect my mind from wandering thoughts and unnecessary planning. Teach me to wait for Your perfect timing and not to try to plan my future in my own strength.
Lord, I know that You have scheduled every day of my life. Help me to trust You in all things and rely on You to lead me along the straight path and guide me in the direction that You would have me to go.
Give me patience to wait for Your perfect timing, and may I not trust in my own abilities and scheming, but rather rest in Your love and trust my future into Your hands.
And so now Lord, I commit this night to you, asking that I would rest soundly and wake refreshed and strong to do Your bidding. This I ask in Jesus’ precious name,
Amen.

That is very funny.
There’s astoundingly little info in the Quran about how to be a Muslim. Nothing in there about how to pray, what the five pillars are…
You need to go to the Sunnah (consisting of the hadiths and sirah) to get that info.
Well, they filled up all the pages with how to be a murderous pedophile. Not much room left after that,
Even THAT sort of thing is not in the Quran. It is in the Sunnah.
Quran Chapter 9, verse 5:
And when the forbidden months have passed, kill the idolaters wherever you find them and take them prisoners, and beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they repent and observe Prayer and pay the Zakat, then leave their way free. Surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.
That’s the murder, not the pedophilia.
And (by itself) it’s no worse than a lot of parts of the Old Testament.
I’m not so sure about that, in terms of actual instructions to wipe a certain enemy of the face of the planet.
I might have this wrong, but the people that were to get full destruction(per divine dictate) were the ones doing bad things to children and animals, not to mention the human sacrifices, torture and invoking demons.
Well, there’s the rub, and where so many get hung up. The Old Testament is HISTORY. It’s important; it allows us to, in my opinion, really appreciate the coming of Jesus. Because Jesus changed everything. There is no Jesus to change Islam. That religion is stuck in the violence of its ancient history.
Depending on what you mean by that, that could open a gigantic can of theological worms.
Since I don’t relish bricks thrown through my window, I’m not going to go further.
Lol, I am a great can opener, or so I am told!
Do you want to take this potential can opening conversation to a different location (as Steve seems reluctant to have it at the Q-Tree where others might read along, people who monitor the Q-tree but don’t participate, assuming I got what he meant in a reply above to me)?
If you are interested then I can make room on my main blog SpecialConnections.wordpress.com
If so, I’ll copy the existing conversation above into a post there & we can keep the discussion going if You want. Just give the word
Nah. That’s ok. But thanks for the offer!
YW Steve didn’t want to play on another field unless you were there too
I’m happy to talk about anything, really. But I didn’t have time to go have a long discussion yesterday. And I am pretty open about my opinions, so here is where I generally post.
Understood. I’m going to be pretty tied up this week, wrapping up taxes & helping my parents, so that type of potentially in-depth discussion will have to pend, if it happens at all
Go for it…some of us won’t mind AND might reply
Uh uh, no way, not with this. We aren’t the only ones here.
Fair enough
Feel free to have such a conversation, if you want, on one of my blog posts, where practically no one will see it LOL
The difficulty there is it’s Aubergine who opened the can of worms, and you might not agree with the implications I see in what she said. She might not have meant those implications either. (Which is why I wrote “Depending on what you mean.”) If she does mean exactly what I thought she might mean, I’d make some pretty pointed comments, but first I’d have to establish that. Talking with you to understand Aubergine’s state of mind would be pointless, especially since I am 99 percent confident you wouldn’t agree with what I was thinking she might be saying.
LOL True that!
Where were the republicans in the congress who approved him? The same people give Trump’s appointees lots of grief.
From OT, on what I recently referred to as the bogus self-fulfilling prophecy / narrative being circulated by fake news media and then amplified across social media, on Tariffs.
These CNBC gaslighters CANNOT be this stupid — they are playing a psychological abuse game, and it infuriates me.
Most of my life I’ve had to deal with this bullshit game of lying, pretending not to know things, dishonestly reframing the subject, gaslighting, all of it. They know exactly what they’re doing.
These CNBC gaslighters are horrible, awful human beings. Pure psychopaths.

Just curious, where do the theoretical Half Life claims come from, since no one’s been around long enough to do such measurements & the millions or billions of years suggested make it seem that even if we observed these items for hundreds of years we could detect no changes?
They count individual decays.
They then compare the number of decays to the number of atoms in the sample (computable from the sample’s mass and the atomic mass of the atoms in question) to figure out what proportion of the current number of atoms decay; that gives you the decay constant, λ, referenced here and last time. That can be directly converted to a half life. Obviously the longer you count the better your value. And a super-long half life can be hard to measure, because we have to wait longer for each decay (and there’s always a chance that despite precautions the event we detect when we finally see one is noise rather than a real event).
For example, with Rb-87 and its 49,720 million year half life (a bit more than three times that of thorium-232), the decay constant is: 4.422445253458 × 10-19 per second (from here forward I’m going to round it to 4.42244), which means that statistically speaking, for every single atom of it you’ll get that number of decays per second. But of course it either decays or doesn’t decay, it won’t do some fraction of a decay every second. But, if you have 4.42244 x 1019 atoms of Rb-87 in your sample, you should average one decay per second.
This is actually a fairly small sample, six milligrams (divide by Avogadro’s number, 6.02 x 1023, to get moles, then multiply by 87 grams per mole). A gram of rubidium-87 should have about 6.92 x 1021 atoms in it; doing the math (divide this by 4.42244 x 1019), that should be 156 decays every second from a gram-sized sample. Of course our detector doesn’t surround the sample, so we’ll see less than that. And we’ll see even less than that because our sample is likely to be of regular rubidium, which is 27.8 percent rubidium-87. But it’s simple enough to correct for these considerations.
In any case, perfectly accessible numbers can be measured to determine these half lives, primarily because there are so many atoms in even a small sample.
We have an advanced enough theoretical model of what goes on inside the nucleus that in many cases we expect something to be radioactive but with a super-long half life, one that’s long enough we can’t actually measure it; those are the nuclides which are listed as “observationally stable.” We think they’re likely unstable with very long half lives but haven’t detected their radioactivity yet. This would be stuff with half lives a trillion times longer than this. You’d need a bigger sample and then you might get one hit every month or so, rather than 156 per second. (This would be an expensive experiment to perform, too.)
Why do we think this is constant? Because with rare exceptions (like bound state beta decay) we simply can’t force it to change no matter what we do with it. (One of those rare exceptions is Re-187, but it has to be stripped completely of electrons for the effect to occur. Apparently it has a rather unusual type of beta decay.)
How do we know it’s an exponential curve? We can plot it for short-lived isotopes (I did so in physics lab myself, for an isotope of radon. probably Rn-219 though it might have been Rn-220, I just don’t remember), and we can tell that the amount of radiation is proportional to the amount of the substance by other measurements–the decay equation “fits” this behavior.
I’m not intending to be a dick here but I am confused by this “4.422445253458 × 10-19 per second (from here forward I’m going to round it to 4.42244)”
Why wouldn’t you round it to 4.42245 since the numbers following the 4th 4 in the original number, 4.422445253458, are slightly above 5? Is this a mistake on your part or is there some other factor in operation? Since we’re into the hundred thousandths place maybe that amount of a fudge factor won’t make a Big difference?
Isn’t “decay constant” itself a fairly large assumption. Does an element Really decay at a Constant rate? Wouldn’t you have to set up multiple samples of the same size & measure them over the same time span & under all the same conditions to see if they each decayed at the same rate? Also there could be multiple conditions created, atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity, different containment systems, different shaped “detectors” etc. that Might end up showing that there is Not a constant decay rate, let alone what you said above:
” Of course our detector doesn’t surround the sample, so we’ll see less than that. “
This partially addresses what I was asking above:
“Why do we think this is constant? Because with rare exceptions (like bound state beta decay) we simply can’t force it to change no matter what we do with it. (One of those rare exceptions is Re-187, but it has to be stripped completely of electrons for the effect to occur. Apparently it has a rather unusual type of beta decay.)”
I thought Avogadro’s number was 6.02 X 10 to the 23rd power so in the below are all those numbers, in order, 10^23, 10^21, & 10^19? I’m using that caret (dang is that even the right word?) to indicate that the numbers 23, 21, & 19 are the powers of 10.
“(divide by Avogadro’s number, 6.02 x 1023, to get moles, then multiply by 87 grams per mole). A gram of rubidium-87 should have about 6.92 x 1021 atoms in it; doing the math (divide this by 4.42244 x 1019)” “About” is another fudge factor?
I greatly appreciate your explanation!
“I did so in physics lab myself, for an isotope of radon”
Would you mind elaborating on your lab experience there, I’m curious
Lots of my higher education has faded from memory, but I do recall a bio lab experiment where we were allegedly mating sea urchins, or at least combining their sex cells, in a petrie dish, & I was partnered with a guy from my brother wing (kind of like matched up girl’s & guy’s dorm halls for cafeteria eating & extracurricular stuff). If I recall this particular experiment was labeled “Experiment C” so we were making jokes about Green M & M’s (supposed to indicate you wanted to “do it” with someone, iirc) & “C” you later. We were so mature & overflowing with hormones, properly suppressed, in our Bible Belt Christian college LOL
Yee-ouch! Those exponents were actually pasted in as superscripts. The first time I wrote that long decay constant, I pasted it in and it seemed to have a superscript -19. So I copied and pasted that part of the number and changed the exponent as needed. They showed as superscripts when I wrote the comment. But they disappeared, apparently, when I hit “Post Comment” and I never noticed. So yes, pretend I put the caret in there (that’s what I normally do when I can’t superscript).
There’s a very simple explanation for this. Cranial flatulence. Strictly speaking it should be 4.42245. Even more strictly speaking I probably should have just used 4.4 to avoid reader and writer fatigue.
Especially since I did shorten my numbers later on (which is what I was indicating with my “about”). As soon as I used 87 as the mass (that Rb-87 atom almost certainly does not weigh exactly 87 mass units), I lost anything higher than 2 digits of precision.
I think the experiments I’ve heard mentioned covered all of the factors you named above with the possible exception of not considering that the radiation may preferentially head in one direction (which would require a surrounding detector to account for). I would be very, very surprised though if this had not been checked, and long ago. Meaning that even though I’ve never heard of such a thing, I think it almost certainly has been done, and probably back in Ernest Rutherford’s day. My intuition is that nuclei are pretty much randomly oriented, and any preferential direction would be with respect to the nuclei.
Actually some beta decays do have a preferential direction; that’s pretty famous, but we have to do a lot of work to get the nuclei to line up all in the same direction; without that, what we see outside the sample is uniformity since the nuclei aren’t all oriented the same way.
OK as for the experiment, there was a slug of something-or-other (it looked like a piece of ceramic) in a glass container. This was a sample containing either raw thorium or uranium (meaning, not purified after extraction from the ore; which would remove all the daughter nuclei–it’s in equilibrium with the daughter products). When we wanted to do a “run” of the experiment, we’d open a valve, which would let radon out of that enclosure into another one that had a Geiger counter. At that point the radon is isolated from its source, and will decay away. We take timed readings from the Geiger counter. There weren’t a lot of counts, so we’d do this a lot of times. Just from watching how the number of counts dropped, we could draw a curve (even if we only caught some of the counts because the Geiger counter didn’t surround the sample, that error cancels itself out). The reason we put the counter in a different container, is that putting it near the source would cause it to detect all of the other radioisotopes’ decays, and we’d likely see a constant reading since the parent sample is in equilibrium. We’d be trying to see a curve that depends on thorium and uranium’s half life and it would be flat. By opening and closing the valve, we isolate radon gas, and it’s not being renewed by its parent isotope any more.
Thank you, that was most interesting.
BTW, I wasn’t trying to call you out per se, just trying to read the details & when I get hung up on what I Think I have a shot at understanding then I like to ask you since you are usually generous & gracious in explaining!
No problemo. The biggest issue was wordpress tricking me into thinking I had proper exponents. (I have no way to put them in directly–only Wolf can get that to work in a comment–but pasting one seemed to be working.) You’re certainly entitled to ask for clarification.
FWIW, some of those formulas that I’ve copied from AIG into comments show stuff just fine from a regular copy/paste, iirc.
I’m just copying some examples from a paper I haven’t (yet) read but Might be of some interest to you, just to see if the various forms of superscript show correctly here:
“The proportional counter has a much lower noise level, so the energy cut-off can be set as low as 0.185 keV. Rb films with thicknesses down to 1 µm were measured by Neumann and Huster (1974), and extrapolated to zero thickness by Neumann and Huster (1976) to derive a 87Rb half-life of 48.8 ± 0.8 Byr (equivalent to a decay constant of 1.42 × 10-11 yr-1).”
“Rubidium has two naturally-occurring isotopes 85Rb and 87Rb, whose abundances are 72.17% and 27.83% respectively (Dickin 2005; Faure and Mensing 2005). Rubidium-87 is radioactive and decays to stable 87Sr:-
87Rb → 87Sr + β¯ + ⊽ + Q
A negative β-particle (β¯) and an anti-neutrino (⊽) are both emitted in this process. The decay energy (Q) is shared as kinetic energy by these two particles. Fortunately this β-decay of 87Rb is a single-step process. In effect, it can be regarded as the transformation of a neutron within the 87Rb nucleus into a proton and an electron, the latter then being expelled as a negative β-particle. The relative simplicity of this decay step therefore makes measuring the decay rate of 87Rb relatively straight forward.
There are two parameters by which the decay rate is measured and expressed, namely, the decay constant (λ) and the half-life (t½). The latter is the time it takes for half of a given number of the parent radionuclide atoms to decay. The two quantities can be almost used interchangeably, because they are related by the equation:-
t½ = ln 2 λ = 0.693 λ
”
both from this site:
https://answersresearchjournal.org/radioisotope-decay-rubidium-87/
It looks to me like the superscripts got lost. First obvious in: “(equivalent to a decay constant of 1.42 × 10-11 yr-1).”; the -11 and -1 should be superscripts.
Sounds like you’re seeing the same thing I am.
Yes & also subscripts, at least in the one example I checked, see my “edit window” note “above”
Maybe the ones that (I thought) worked before were actually Images that I copied…not sure now…
There were symbols in what you wrote that “shouldn’t” have worked (such as the antineutrino), which makes me think perhaps those are little embedded images.
NOPE. That’s actually a unicode character adapted. NOR. ⊽. It’s not lower case Greek nu with an overbar. Sneaky/clever.
Well that’s pretty much all Greek to me, but transing into English somehow!
The neutrino’s symbol is lower case Greek Nu, which looks like a slightly curvy v (depending on font): ν. I guess some physicist was a punster (big surprise, hah hah) because it’s a good play on the way most people pronounce “neu-” Putting a bar over a particle’s symbol means “the anti particle of” so an anti-neutrino is this: ν with a bar over it. AIG faked it with the NOR symbol which is a (non-curvy) V with a bar over it.
Actually since NOR is part of symbolic logic, I’ve had to use it but never used that particular symbol for it.
Deliberate sneakiness to confuse?
No they’re not trying to confuse the reader, they’re just doing it for convenience, because actually putting an overbar on a letter that doesn’t have one is a pain, and that’s even if your system can do that. And most won’t see the difference between a v and a ν, and even those who do, will know what they meant anyway, and they know that.
OK Thx
You giving them the benefit of the doubt shows that you can trend toward objectivity, even with a group you likely mostly despise
I did call it sneaky/clever, but that was actually congratulating them for the “hack” of using that symbol as a substitute for a proper antineutrino symbol.
I don’t recall what I did in the physics series in the same situation. (As a post author you can do more than you can in a comment, so I can do superscripts there, but that doesn’t help with overbars.)
I wonder if there is some type of website that has all those symbols that can be c/p here or if there is a way to open up the “code” for getting them to show properly. I’m getting way out over my skies in that I’m not even close to a techie so have no idea what I’m talking about, or Guessing Might Exist!
There’s actually a tool that will help you find unicode characters. I use it every time I need to spell “schadenböner” to get the ö. I know there’s one for windows but I have no recollection what it’s called. The one I use on linux is called kcharselect.
TY, that’s interesting & affirms my guess
missed my edit window…
OK, definitely the last equation shows incorrectly t 1/2, where the 1/2 was a subscript…
also the first copy should have 10 raised to the 11th power & yr raised to the -1, so this didn’t work right either…sigh…
You missed it because I hit post on my reply…
Yeah I spotted that 1/2 too.
By the way a decay constant can be per year (like the one you quoted) or per second (like I used in my original reply to your original question). The actual number will be different.
Last time I actually used a “per million years” form of the constant, since everything I wrote was in millions of years.
Makes sense.
BTW I replied to Aubergine on the “can-opening” Biblical conversation to see if she wants to continue it elsewhere & offered to copy the existing conversation to my blog so we can run with the topic there, if all so desire…I assume you can see that reply to A by me since you are the author
Dunning-Krueger comedy gold:
OMG, this is utterly painful. These people just provoke the worst out of each other, and BOTH of them keep using or not using “sea level” correctly, depending up the argument.
The flerfer is “condescending from idiocy”, but the glober never lets him fully commit to error with his constant Hannity interruptions. I agree with his interruptions to reject certain premises and strawmen, but he would rather get the other guy’s goat with no progress, than allow the flerfer to make his point and lose fair and square.
And BRO. BRO this and BRO that. UGH! Get me out of here!!!
Yeah, I was getting frustrated with Peterson not letting the guy finish. That guy will never learn anything this way even if he could (which I doubt, to be honest), but Peterson isn’t looking to educate him.
And here’s the thing. You CAN use Pythagoras to compute the drop, provided your eye is at the water level–one of the legs of the triangle is now along the tangent plane. Since that’s what this guy clearly did he had no idea that there was a hidden assumption there. He has been sold a bill of goods about how one can do the computation, but Peterson doesn’t understand the exact nature of the error, and with his interruptions there’s no chance he ever would.
There is another video that I think I did post once, where Dirth/Flat Earth Dave was having a discussion with a real scientist, and Dave insisted on using the pythagorean method, and was allowed to explain it…again hidden assumption that the eye is on the surface of the globe.
The real scientist offered to set up a full experiment complete with protocols and all of that and you could watch Dave deflate as he realized his bluff was being called.
Now that sounds interesting!
I want to hypothesize that triggering the glober to interrupt is an evolved behavior in video flerfers, because it creates chaos in which flerfers can constantly cheat intellectual defeat.
I was editing my second paragraph to read (my changes in bold):
And here’s the thing. You CAN use Pythagoras to compute the drop, provided your eye is at the water level–one of the legs of the triangle is now along the tangent plane. Since that’s what this guy clearly did he had no idea that there was a hidden assumption there. He has been sold a bill of goods about how one can do the computation, but Peterson doesn’t understand the exact nature of the error (instead he just jeers at the guy for invoking Pythagoras), and with his interruptions there’s no chance he ever would. He ends up strawmanning the guy.
[end of edit]
And I will go on to add, also, that it’s important to understand the other person’s position. This is why I *hate* that meme which shows a standard diagram of eight planets going around the Sun, with a flat earth amongst all the spheres; and ridiculing it. That’s actually not a representation of the Flat Earth position, so to them you just look like an ignorant ass using that meme. Why should they listen to you if you don’t understand squat?
Good analysis of the fight! I did think the rejection of “Pythagoras” was weak because of being non-explanatory.
I originally had my doubts about TFE, but dang it – it really was effective. I really think it moved the needle on this stuff. So much of the video arguing doesn’t change anything, but it did allow TFE to set up, so there is that.
Maybe these people need to do a “part 1 / part 2” format, where they come back for the next round with more honed arguments.
Another for golfers.

Hallelujah!
I had a very nasty email exchange a few months back with my state representative. He was a total dick to me when I wrote to insist that he vote NOT to allow trannies in the congressional ladies room. Now this!
“The Executive Committee of the Montana Republican Party (MTGOP) has censured the nine Montana Senators as Republicans following their repeated alignment with Senate Democrats during the 69th Legislative Session. These Senators have undermined the Republican majority leadership and disregarded the will of Montana Republican voters.
The nine Senators in question-Jason Ellsworth, Wendy McKamey, Gayle Lammers, Josh Kassmier, Butch Gillespie, Gregg Hunter, Denley Loge, Russ Tempel, and Shelley Vance-have consistently voted with Democrats, betraying the core values of the Republican Party.”
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/04/montana-gop-purges-9-turncoat-republican-senators-backing/
Yes, the fucker is on that list! The article goes on to add:
“The MTGOP Executive Committee has determined that these Senators no longer represent the values or interests of Montana Republicans.
As a result, the MTGOP will no longer support or fund their campaigns. The Party is also urging the media and the public to refrain from referring to these Senators as Republicans.”
TAKE THAT, ASSHOLE!
Dang, that’s more than just a censure, that’s a “we wish we could expel these people.”
I don’t know how your nominating process works, but I hope these people get the boot.
(Here, they would refuse to face the activists who nominate at the assemblies, but instead pay someone to collect signatures to put them onto the primary ballot. Then they’d basically swamp their challengers with ads and name recognition. I absolutely LOATHE the petition route because it’s how RINOs stay in office around here; the activists are powerless to keep them off the ballot.)
Yes, it was grand to read!
Nothing like a good juicy verbal smack upside the head of someone you don’t like to give you a raging schadenböner.
Now THAT is a sweet vindication.
What a HORRIBLE RINO.
He is such a jerk! He won’t get reelected, I’m certain.
Kid must be really smart. Second run he grabs bread and eggs!
Yeah, that was great!
All around, great!
An interesting take on “everything” (the big picture fight) that DePat would have found interesting. It borders on “Q” or “devolution” but it strikes me more as – well – something else.

Intriguing.
Did you catch this @ 2:45 ?
I thought that looked familiar!
Fill me in. What is the significance?
Still working on it (needs to be provable).
Have you seen it before?
I have not.
It felt strange to see the sub titles match the narrative, but have my eyes telling me, hey the tablet being shown is messed up.
But since my early days in college I have not owned a television or watched very many movies at all. Which means I have a very small library of images to draw from.
Some of what is written on the tablet doesn’t even make sense as typos.
Spoken version: “Because a sovereign nation that cannot tell the truth about itself will never be free.”
Tablet version: “Because a [soweigir] nation that cannot [me] truth about [itsulf] itself will never be free.”
It felt like a subliminal effect on first viewing. Where the subconscious does something to make it make sense in a way the conscious mind does not catch.
I did appreciate the overall effect of the video. A story of redemption, of returning to sovereignty as individuals and as a nation.
It’s basically AI Bullshit, as I like to call it.
AI does some very weird things with lettering, and is even rather good at “fake writing” on things.
OK. I could swear I saw it somewhere else – maybe it was on X or some other site. There may be a “tablet meme maker” that produces similar-looking memes. But I saw it recently, and the “Sovereign” wording in this case, make me think it might have been you.
AND that theory works nicely with the fact that the tablet meme I remember didn’t have those errors in the text.
That seems like an AI image that can’t quite get letters (or fingers) just right…
Hmmm, That seems like an AI performance AND perhaps a continuation of bread & circuses…a potential pacification strategy
Indeed. If it is an AI product…
They keep getting more & more sophisticated so harder to tell. There was a slightly weird pronunciation on a familiar word that made me think the narrative voice was also an AI, fwiw…
I see a lot of slickly produced videos with an obvious computer voice.
However, this sort of thing happened before AI became a thing. Basically the same sort of text-to-speech software that has been out there for years. It doesn’t need to be an AI. Though this doesn’t preclude having an AI write the script, which a foreign individual might use in order to try to make the English a bit better.
(Personally if I wanted to write in a language I knew, but poorly, I’d do the writing, then have an AI clean it up so it was idiomatic and read it again to make sure it didn’t change the meaning. Just so it wasn’t an obvious “translation” by someone who wasn’t a native speaker.)
“this doesn’t preclude having an AI write the script”
Wow, that’s actually disturbing
That was Tore’s regular voice (I’ve listened to enough of her podcasts to know that). Tore is a content creator that does use AI in her image generating process, but the ideas behind the content are consistent with her typical themes and insights.
TY that’s good to know!
I just opened Sunday’s post in another tab & saw your tagline at the top, but since your text was White you can only see the C/P if you highlight it w/ your cursor below….so by your own standards should you have claimed that this video you shared Might be AI

“ WARNING: NO UNIDENTIFIED AI BULLSHIT IS TO BE POSTED ON THIS SITE UNDER PENALTY OF MODERATION OR SITE BAN”
Edit: clearly your warning text is showing even though I couldn’t see it in the original comment box…live & learn
I am pretty soft on AI pictures and videos because the AI nature of images and video is now visually obvious to the casual observer, and when it IS obvious, I think it’s not worth saying anything. OTOH, when the AI isn’t obvious, but the poster knows it’s AI, and the content is false or misrepresenting reality, then the AI nature needs to be stated.
The worst case is AI as a “source” in text. AI can easily be wrong, or even lie with intent. NO. Liars don’t get in here. Lying AIs can be quoted, but they can’t pretend to be users, or human experts.
People are no longer allowed to dump AI reasoning as their own, or as that of an anonymous human subject expert. It must be labeled as AI, so that it gets proper skepticism.
I honestly don’t even understand the phenomenon of wanting to pretend something AI generated is your own work product, beyond revealing the conversational nature of how the material was generated, like Para has shared a few times.
I love how you manage the guard rails for the Wolf Pack’s extensive territory!
I reckon it’s akin to the Butlerian Jihad.
I know that’s a Dune reference but frankly can’t translate into meaningful insight at this point…do you mind elaborating?
OK, please….this post is two days old now.
Well I guess that some of us are still chatting
Nobody expects the Antiquarian Jihad!
Bwah ha ha
I was hoping that crossing Another decadal milestone would happen before I qualified as Antiquarian but c’est la vie!
Wow, just as an aside to you I was clicking “read” for your above comment & then clicked on the “read” choice in the new bell & it had already dumped the content that had been there, like maybe 20 comments over a couple days or so. I don’t know if you are still tweaking the capabilities in the new bell but this fun one still exists in “unread” for me
Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy has replied to your commentMarch 25, 2025 10:50
Total Threecall!
Don’t know if these details are helpful to you or not. If not, let me know & I’ll stop passing along the minutiae
OK on the new bell it just dumped my “read” items after only a few hours instead of days like previously. I’d been up to maybe 12 items in “read” & when I checked the new “unread” stuff & moved a couple to “read” they are the only ones in there. So either you changed the parameters or the tool did it seems
We have a 30-day retention on notifications, so it’s possible that you accidentally clicked on “Delete All” at some point, which I find I do unintentionally, every once in a while. I will do a deeper dive on this in a month or so. I am going to be around here much less for the next month due to a combination of weather, home, and health stuff.
It appears (APPEARS) that there is a shorter window on read messages, but I am unable to find either a number for it or a control. But I have definitely hit that link accidentally a number of times.
That whole GUI is too small and the print is too small. I may be able to fix by a hack, but not now.
TY I have NOT hit the “delete all” button Ever, fyi. I’m Not worried about any of it, just keeping you posted on anything that might be helpful, or something different I notice
Take care of yourself as a priority Always. Blessings!
I gave you a reply elsewhere about “read” stuff from the new bell disappearing in less than 24 hours, possibly around 12 hours. Anyway, before that happened (that I could tell) I was Attempting to access the new bell on one of my Q-Tree tabs that hadn’t been refreshed in a while. Clicking on the new bell showed the 2 categories but didn’t load the items within or perhaps the lower 2/3 of the typical box. The next time I tried the new bell (can’t remember if it was after a page refresh on that page or on the other tab) that’s when I noticed the “read” category now being empty. Hope this info helps you in your tweaking
This aligns with the idea that there are sticky spots in the updating of the read/unread/deleted database by the GUI (widgets). Multiple tabs may be a problem for the logic – not bad enough to cause big problems, but enough to cause small ones.
Weeeell, I’m glad You understood that! LOL
Is there ANYTHING about this conversation that can’t be moved off my daily??
PLEASE.
LOL!!! OK – I will volunteer to start walking back toward Presentville!
OK I just checked the new bell again & not that long since previously. All of my “read” items have disappeared again, Maybe an 8am dump? I just added 3 comments by Kalbo to the “read” column so we’ll see how long they last there, action about 8:08am
Another random weirdness on the new bell just happened. I had only left your “Total Threecall” comment in “unread” so it was showing “1”. I looked at the bell & it showed “3” but when I clicked on it only your TT comment was there. Clicked off, still showed “3” but not when I looked (I checked “unread” but the “3” was for “read”). Finally it showed one other comment & then the bell was at “2”. Maybe someone replied to me & was editing or possibly deleting that comment…weird…
How many TQT tabs are you running? I suspect this is involved.
Well there are only 2 that I’m moving back & forth between currently, but there are probably others in the many windows/tabs that are still “open” (though in a fairly inactive state) on my laptop.
Never miss a chance to “award” a Bozo button, especially on a Steve post, an author who Greatly Admires the sentiment LOL
NOW I know why you’ve been so chatty. Trying to inflate the count.
Bwah ha ha!!!
Nice ASSumption but wrong.
I’ve missed being more active on the Q-Tree due to tax season & being exhausted. I got my preliminary fed crap “done” & helped Josiah get all of his taxes filed, so have a bit of a mental space today.
Plus, I’m sort of taking the “Sabbath Day” as a day of rest so have “time” to play here. It helps that Hubby & son are both napping, or at least out of my hair, at the moment
And here I was thinking I could finally close this tab and just keep up on the one for today’s post.
LOL
Closing tabs is for wimps!!!
Hope the gif is fun for it wasn’t animated in the choice box.
Edit: the animation is fairly lame but the inclusion of “middle aged woman” makes it rather apropos, at least from my perch
Actually I just had to bookmark a bunch of tabs I have open for use in future posts. Those were in a different VM, one that doesn’t save things when you shut it down (actually this one doesn’t either, other than the Q tree cookie), so I had to open a browser that would save bookmarks, and copy all of the urls to there and bookmark them. Then I could finally close that window.
That sounds like a tedious process for a guy who Might play an efficiency expert…on TV
Basically my fault, I should have been using the VM that can do bookmarks in the first place.
Is that one much harder to set up than the ones you usually use?
