That video, if the headline proves out, would overturn a lot of the current beliefs. For one thing there’s no other evidence that Homo Sapiens got out of Africa before 70,000 years ago (some people claim the Australian Aborigines have been there for 100,000 years but that’s basically unsupported by anything, as far as I know).

And apparently she’s Dutch, so that would account for the accent.

True, that’s why I specifically said “Homo Sapiens.”

I don’t know whether she’s claiming Homo Sapiens was in North America 100,000 years ago, or some other Homo species.

I tend to use the word “Humans” to apply to Homo Sapiens Sapiens in particular though others use it more broadly. I’m probably wrong in this.

And I may have not been specific enough. Homo Sapiens Sapiens (the subspecies) took 70,000 years to get out, but I believe Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis got out sooner.

Also, there appears to have been one group that got to modern day Israel about 100,000 BCE, but they apparently died out; their DNA doesn’t show up in anyone alive today, so far as we know.

I saw a link to an animated video about Elon’s starship to Mars and clicked on it yesterday.

It was supposed to be serious, but it was unintentionally funny.

The plan is to take 100 people to Mars, which is how many people the Starship can hold, but the first trip will have fewer people and a lot more equipment, to set up a base camp.

So I’m watching this thing, it’s around 15 minutes long, and of course they’re showing the typical rainbow coalition of passengers, because of course they are.

There was a brief discussion about the need to screen people for psychological soundness because a six month trip in cramped quarters with that many people could easily lead to disputes, or worse.

So my initial thought was that there should be a high percentage of Leftist wymyn, islamists and black people on the trip. I’m unsure whether black men or black women are more violent. FIB statistics say black men by far, but yootoob video evidence strongly suggests it’s actually black women who are the most violent.

I guess they’ll have to fight it out before a winner can be declared.

It definitely has to be all Democrats on the Starship mission to Mars, because they certainly can’t allow a group of ‘right wingers’ to land on Mars first.

And they definitely can’t mix Trump supporters with Democrat TDS loon-a-ticks, or the Starship will never even get off the ground without a Jerry Springer brawl 🤣

Nobody else, just four black dudes, cruising around on Mars, doing cool stuff.

I would be suspicious about that, riding on some white guy’s rocket all the way to Mars, but when they get there, they shove four black guys out the door first, to see if it’s safe or not 😂

Everything in life is ridiculous now, it’s bizarro world, because of forced social distortions and contortions over race and sexual dementia and Leftist propaganda lies.

Everyone is obligated to participate in the delusion that all people are equal in every way (except white people, who are less than) and everyone is equally qualified to do anything and everything — except white people, especially men.

And all of this insanity is done in service to the Left’s false god of Diversity & Equal Outcomes, a god that is as fake as Dagon of the Philistines.

Somewhat continuing a discussion from yesterday….

When it comes to metalworking, there are two types of machines that do the brunt of the work — lathes and mills. Can anyone define them and/or describe the difference?

This is somewhat similar to another conundrum — two types of earthmoving equipment, illustrated by a backhoe and a steam shovel….can anyone define these and/or describe the difference.

I’m going to let these sit and get responses and probably weigh-in tomorrow.

Speaking off the top of my head I think a lathe is a rotational machine, I think of it more for wood, like turning spindle legs for furniture. The machine spins the wood (or metal) & a tool is applied during the spin to provide shape. I would guess that a mill Might cut into a static piece of metal?

Back hoe has the bucket/shovel facing inward toward the driver & might be smaller. Steam shovel, in addition to being steam driven, has the bucket facing outward on the arm. They are both used for digging.

I had some book as a kid with I think Mike Mulligan & his steam shovel Mary Anne that were in a contest to dig out a basement for a building & they dug so fast that they forgot to leave an exit ramp for the becoming obsolete steam shovel, so she ends up becoming the furnace in the basement of the building.

That’s close enough on both that I won’t wait.

A lathe spins the thing being worked on and applies tools. The machine that makes LP masters that were stamped into vinyl to make records is a lathe. So is the machine that refinishes disk brakes for your car. They don’t look like wood lathes or machine lathes, but they meet the criteria.

By contrast, a mill spins the tool and applies it to the object being worked on. A router works like a mill.

A hoe, like a backhoe, pulls towards the operator when working. It can move away from the operator when positioning before use or when disposing of material, but the working movement is a pull.

A shovel, by contrast, shoves into the material away from the operator. It can move from side-to-side or toward the operator to dispose of material, but the power stroke is a push.

It is interesting to note that the hoe/shovel distinction works down to the level of common garden tools.

How many high school students in urban areas would have the faintest clue?

A mill uses rotating cutting tools while a lathe uses semi-stationary cutting tools to shape a workpiece that is rotating on its axis.

This is a simple lathe. The piece of work is held at both ends and is rotated. The tool is braced on the stand shown in the middle that can be moved along the rail allowing shaping of the full piece.

The pictured “grizzly” lathe is a wood lathe. They also offer metal lathes. The junior metal models are actually made by a Chinese company called SIEG, who paint them different colors and sell them through Harbor Freight (and others) and also under their own name.

Her husband, her doctor, and her hospital were saying “remdesivir”, and she shared it here. My screaming “NOOOOooooo!!!!!” wasn’t going to be a good move.

In addition, the smooth muscle did not seem to be involved because AHR in A/J mice was not affected by albuterol treatment. These observations also suggest that the airways are not negatively affected by albuterol but rather that the periphery of the lung is sensitive to adverse effects by albuterol. Interestingly, our data demonstrate that pulmonary inflammation seems to be a prerequisite for albuterol to produce increased responses to either allergen or MCh [inhaled methacholine] because naïve mice did not change their response following albuterol treatment. Finally, we are left with the notion that the individual enantiomers and racemic albuterol share the same ability to affect the lung phenotype whether induced by allergen inhalation or broncho constriction with MCh and that this ability is not related to the β2-receptor but is due to some other property of the albuterol molecule that is unrelated to its steric configuration….

Methacholine challenge test (also known as bronchoprovocation test) is performed to evaluate how “reactive” or “responsive” your lungs are. 

It can help your doctor evaluate symptoms suggestive of asthma, such as cough, chest tightness and shortness of breath, and help diagnose whether or not you have asthma. During the test, you will be asked to inhale doses of methacholine, a drug that can cause narrowing of the airways. A breathing test will be repeated after each dose of methacholine to measure the degree of narrowing or constriction of the airways. 

The test starts with a very small dose of methacholine and, depending on your response, the doses will be increased until either you experience 20 percent drop in breathing ability, or you reach a maximum dose with no change in your lung function.

You can’t have a surprise attack if you warn the victims in advance. It was important not to let any of the Lusitania passengers know that the ship was carrying war materials and was likely to be sunk. They could not be allowed to know that several of its decks, normally assigned to passenger quarters, had been cleared out and loaded with military-related supplies, including ammunition and explosive primers. They could not be informed that they would be riding on a floating ammunition depot.

The German embassy tried to warn American civilians not to book passage on that ship.

 

They placed an advertisement in fifty newspapers, mostly along the eastern seaboard, warning that the Lusitania would be in danger, that it was heading into hostile waters, and that Americans should not be on board. The U.S. State Department contacted all fifty of those newspapers and strongly requested them not to publish the ad, implying that there would be dire consequences if they did. i understand all that…but the highlighted portions of the transcript seem to point out things that lead Julie to her conclusions. I don’t see the relevance. he states as chief judge he has to review cases. he states the courts weren’t open.

What does a Chief Judge do?

A chief judge is also known as a chief justice or presiding judge. He or she holds the highest rank when there is more than one judge in a court…The responsibilities of a chief judge include: hearing complex cases and legal arguments, discussing the case with the other judges and writing the final decision…

The primary responsibility of the chief judge is to hear complex cases. The cases that come to this level of court typically represent social issues, potential miscarriages of justice and government policies. At this level, the judges are responsible for reading all of the court files associated with the case, including the arguments submitted to other judges. In addition to this background reading, the judges required to read the arguments surrounding the primary issue on which they need to rule.

After reviewing the documentation and listening to the arguments presented by the lawyers, the judges [plural] meet and review the issues in detail. The chief judge is responsible for leading the discussion with the other judges, providing structure to meetings and ensuring that all of the relevant research is provided. The details of the case are argued, with a voting process managed by the chief judge.

PGroup would have a much better idea, but from what I can tell the review of cases SEEMS to only apply to the court of appeal level cases heard by multiple judges and not to the lower level cases heard by one judge. There would just be way too many cases.

‘There’s total paralysis.’ With NY’s chief judge vacancy, courts are stagnantUntil the Court of Appeals gets a permanent chief judge, many initiatives remain on ice, and the judicial branch is in a “holding pattern.”

As far as fed district courts go, the chief judge is responsible for the administration of the courts in that district.

He sets the various policies needed for the functioning of the district, such as assigning cases, scheduling rules, etc. Case assignments are not fully random – they also consider the caseload of each judge AND specialty areas of each individual judge [torts, contracts, maritime, etc.].

Most critical to every case assignment is a general conflict check. This is up to each judge; not mandatory. It can be done after the case is assigned but that makes for a messy situation. Anyway, for the judges that have a ‘forbidden’ list [parties and law firms that must be recused] the random rotation will simply skip over that judge.

Last but not least, the chief judge is the ‘back-up’ emergency judge for when the scheduled judge is unavailable [he’s using the toilet or whatever when the call comes in].

Keep in mind that at the time of filing, there is also a motion for a TRO which needs an immediate hearing by a judge. This reply comment is by no means every factor involved.

So random doesn’t quite mean random.

On Friday, The Gateway Pundit posted an article about a claim made in an article by The New York Times regarding the appointment of former Section Chief of Domestic Terrorism Operations Section (DTOS) as the Assistant Director in Charge of the Washington Field Office (WFO).

Initially, we called the move “head-scratching” because of Jensen’s involvement, not just in the January 6th prosecutions, but as the DTOS Chief, all of the investigations that ensued under the guise of “domestic terrorism” under the Biden Administration.

The morning following the publication, The Gateway Pundit shared the story with a high-level source who replied, “Fake News.” This source would absolutely have knowledge of the appointment.

In addition to our source, there was no formal announcement from anyone affiliated with the FBI or the WFO regarding the new ADIC, including a phone call placed to the WFO in which they would not answer but rather transfered us to a switchboard for reporting crimes. For this reason, we determined that this was likely, as our source had stated, “Fake News.”

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. ENTIRE ARTICLE: “I’m not anti-cop by any stretch of the imagination. I happen to know for a fact that there are good cops out there. I was raised by one, may he rest in peace. I’ve known plenty in my life. I’ve known a bunch that were on the opposite end of the spectrum, too, though most are somewhere in between the angels and the devils, like most people.
But what bothers me is how police often get preferential treatment on things. Cops often look the other way when one of their fellow officers are driving too fast or roll through a stop sign. Of course, this kind of thing bothers me far more.

A D.C. police officer once celebrated as a community leader was pulled over and detained in Prince George’s County with guns and drugs inside his car — but is only being cited for traffic violations.

Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith confirmed Thursday the detention of Officer Maleek Isaiah Loggins, 22, which had taken place the day before in District Heights, Maryland.

She said his police powers have been suspended as the D.C. department conducts its own investigation into the incident.

MPD said Officer Loggins worked as a patrol officer. He became a sworn officer in March 2024.

A Prince George’s County police report obtained by The Washington Times said Officer Loggins was pulled over at about 3:20 p.m. after authorities witnessed him “committing traffic violations” near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Silver Hill Road.

The report said Officer Loggins was ordered out of the car, and a search of his vehicle turned up a Glock pistol with a 10-round magazine, and a Draco handgun — which mimics the look of an AK-47 — with a 24-round magazine.

Authorities said Officer Loggins also had 27.5 grams of marijuana in his car, which falls short of the 1.5 ounce criminal threshold for marijuana possession in the state, as well as a digital scale.

The report said the MPD officer was detained, handcuffed, and processed for multiple traffic-related offenses, and then released pending further investigation.

Now, let’s break this down. First, I get that the drugs were below the threshold, but in case you don’t have the conversion of grams to ounces handy, it was only short by less than a gram. Maybe it’s just me, but that could be a scale calibration issue. Either way, the law is the law.
But because the law is the law, we have to remember that possession of a firearm by someone who uses drugs–even marijuana, mind you, regardless of state laws on the subject–is a felony. 
“Tom, that’s a federal charge. Local cops can’t file those charges unless there’s a corresponding state law.” That is true, and I haven’t bothered to look to see if Maryland has one, which is where Prince George’s County is, has one. But they do have a magazine capacity limit of just 10 rounds. The Draco had a 24-round magazine. They had grounds to charge him.
Except for the fact that he’s a cop and they get special treatment. The laws don’t apply to someone like him as they would to you or me in Prince George’s County. So, they just wrote him a traffic ticket and sent him on his way.
These are the gun control laws that we’re all supposed to follow. These are the laws we’re assured are absolutely essential to keeping us all safe. But they don’t apply to law enforcement officers because they’re better than us. They get different rules because they’re special.
Well, I’m not walking around with marijuana in my vehicle, much less an amount that’s a skooch under the legal limit and trusting my badge to keep me out of trouble. What happened here should raise a lot of questions, including why laws that are supposedly so essential aren’t applied to everyone equally. Unfortunately, no one in Maryland or DC will be interested in asking those.”

From a business perspective, once a company reaches a certain size, it may be difficult to raise the amount of capital needed to significantly grow the business further.

Access to capital markets facilitates expansion.

From a regular American individual perspective, in our current monetary system, with constant debasement and inflation of the around 14% per year, that means if you hold cash, you are losing that same amount of purchasing power per year.

If you have cash in a money market account or a CD paying 5%, that’s better than nothing, but you’re still losing 9% purchasing power every year (more, after paying any capital gains taxes).

If you hold mostly gold, you need a safe place to store it. If you are comfortable storing it at home, then storage cost is whatever the cost is for a safe and a security system, but if you store bullion at a commercial vault, that’s going to cost you storage fees, and if the gold price goes nowhere (which it frequently does for long periods of time), that’s a loss.

If you hold wealth in commercial or rental real estate, it’s not liquid, it has recession risk, it has population flight risk, lawsuit risk, it has property taxes, management costs, insurance costs, financing costs, etc.

So before Bitcoin, stocks, the S&P 500 index for example, was one of the better ways to preserve one’s purchasing power. If the S&P 500 goes up 14% per year on average, and the purchasing power of the dollar goes down 14% per year, at least you’re treading water.

This is the problem everyone faces. The value of the currency is constantly being debased or inflated away, so the same amount of dollars buys less and less each year.

So you have to get a return on investment of at least 14% per year (more after you factor in capital gains taxes) just to break even, just to maintain the purchasing power of the money you already earned.

Otherwise, your purchasing power is being eroded away, like a melting ice cube, which is why inflation (or debasement) is called silent theft.

Now that Bitcoin exists and has reached a point of growing adoption and regulatory clarity, it should begin to replace most other investments.

It takes time, because the masses won’t adopt it until they need it, until they realize Bitcoin is a life raft, along with gold. Recognition and adoption accelerates when a nation’s currency begins to hyper-inflate.

It would mean all those publicly traded companies had gone belly-up and bankrupted. That means there is a much bigger issue than the stock market at hand.

HOWEVER if you look at the chart, the crash happened after the stock market was inflated to many times its baseline value. The crash brought it back down to just a little below baseline.

So YES, it was GAMBLING WITH BORROWED MONEY. If you use your OWN money and buy stock based on how solid the company is and what type of dividends it pays, then you can ignore the game playing. I started buying stock at age 10 and continued until I used the money I invested into buying my first home. Good grief, I had to reload this page FOUR TIMES and wait 5-15 minutes each time to get to a point where it would let me write a reply to someone. I’ve also had this kind of crap happen to me over the weekend but only once was it this bad.

Having to open my post as well as this one because some people won’t effing LET IT DIE just adds to the aggravation.

I don’t know if this is the new system or something on my end, but if it’s the new system...IT SUCKS!!!

I work in the bicycle industry and the impact tariffs are having on my business are profound. 

The same bike that people were paying $4,000 for during the pandemic is on sale this month for $1,300. 

The same bike that people were paying $3,495 for during the pandemic is on sale this month for $1,999. 

Bikes built and manufactured in the United States are selling out. Bikes manufactured overseas are reducing their prices to stay competitive with US manufacturers. 

Tariffs are definitely impacting my industry and it’s been absolutely amazing for my business. Thank you @POTUS

Gold dropped well below $3000 earlier today but appears to have just barely made it back to that mark. Remember this is still something like $150 short of the highs it was at.

Guessing demand has increased, with supply lagging. Guess Drill, baby drill takes awhile to work its way into the system.

In March I had a road trip TX – CA – TX.

  • Truck stops (Loves, Pilot, Flying J, TA) far, far busier than previous round trips. Fueling lanes full (fueled, fueling, waiting.) Truck parking nearly always jammed up.
  • Rest areas pretty full. Increased ramp parking,
  • Rails along I-40 very busy (CA, AZ, NM) very busy.

This was March. MeThinks Trump effect has made a positive mark on demand in trucking. Signalling businesses are ramping up. Perhaps modestly, but ramping up.

Gas will come down, as Trump Train more complete effect.
