We all understand the incredible power the internet wields in our lives today. And yet all the big players seem to have no serious interest or ability in building an internet that provides good value, security and privacy at scale. And every single one seems to have curious founders and beginnings associated with persons involved with government agencies of various stripes.
The worst offenders need no elaboration. In the early days we loved to hate Micro$oft, Yahuuuu, and Netscrape. Now we worry about Faceborg’s over the top invasive data collection, with it even trying to contract with hospitals to get personal medical records! Their interest in collecting everything on everyone certainly should bring a smile of delight from the control freaks that want to run the planet.
In the run up to the 2020 Elections the ways in which our voices are silenced will likely be beyond belief. If there ever was a time to pray for God to place his hand on the technologies such that they serve his purposes, now is that time.

With all that said, the hidden 500 pound Gorilla controlling much of the internet today is a company called CloudFlare. You many not even know how much power they wield over much of the global internet traffic. They have built a global infrastructure that virtually replaces the federation model of an internet run by multiple providers at every layer. This puts way too much power into the hands of a small number of technocrats.
They took a lot of heat in their early days for not deplatforming a controversial site, and in the end they did indeed remove support for the site–on a whim of the CEO. And have more recently been in the news for deplatforming 8chan.
But make no mistake, the concerns over CloudFlare run far deeper than the ability to stop providing DDoS protection services. Some have suggested that the addition of certain new board members this past spring, may have been a factor in the decision to join in the smear campaign (and all out attack) on the home of the Qanon message board. That may be, but you can be sure that there have been many pressures to take sides in this war.
CloudFlare is now the Man-in-the-Middle of nearly everything that is on the internet. That means they can block access to site content, spy on everything that goes through their world-wide server network, and give higher paying customers faster internet traffic routing with faster results.
What could possibly go wrong?
In the days to come, it will become more and more important to have researched and developed alternative platforms for the sharing of information and real-time communications. Tech companies are going to keep promising that they care about your safety, security and privacy. And those same companies will not really care at all…
Finding alternative comms will not be as simple as getting a Gab account as we have discovered. While 8chan was in the crosshairs of those at war with free speech and the Q movement, Gab was next in line.
The troubles they have encountered are helping us all to see where the weak points are and hopefully develop better services in response. At this stage, it would seem that we need multiple modes for connecting in the hopes that not all of them are taken out at the same time.
At this point it would seem that CloudFlazi is going to be one to watch and to keep in our prayers. I’ve been given a server unreachable error message from CloudFlazi more than a few times when trying to reach Gab.com in the past month.
We are in this to win, with the help of God.

Back in 2015, I had a cybersecurity incident. A fellow commenter on AoSHQ resented my nic and decided to see how far he could push things. He shoved his way into my email through Amazon (their security is utter crap, and you should use a separate email from anything else in dealing with them). The security of my former email through AOL could not be maintained — I had a three-page memo of its insecurities which was damning enough…..before an AOL admin echoed it back to my attacker. (Jon Ericsson, of San Jose, CA — AKA “Ira Weatheral”).
As part of digging out from this mess — I had 12 active networked computers when this intrusion happened, and downed them and pulled their hard drives. I pulled all the routers and switches back to the internet provider’s contact point — I have several new routers. Many of the computers I was running at the time are in the boneyard, and will never run again.
Sorry……as part of digging out from this mess, I’ve converted everything to Linux. Part of this is convenience — Linux Mint is actually more like Windows XP than Windows 8 is, in terms of user experience. Part of it is security — Linux adopts security significantly faster than Microsoft (Windows), Apple (iOS), or Google (Android). Part of it is accessibility (in Linux, you can see [and modify] EVERYTHING — hell, you can recompile the kernel if you feel like it). But the most important thing is that you have total control of a Linux box. You can make it into anything you want it to be.
It doesn’t hurt that when you want a 4-core processor with 4G of RAM and a decent graphics coprocessor (2 4K displays) running gig ethernet with totally up-to-date security patches you can get it for $55 — https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/raspberry-pi-4?variant=29157087445075 .

Mint is good stuff. I’ve been using it for things for at least seven years. It doesn’t fit every use case but it’s easily my top recommendation for a Linux desktop.
There was an incident a couple of years ago, I think in early 2016, where some baddies injected their own software and got it into the Mint ISOs. Was a major security incident at the time. Even if you trust the distro you still have to pay attention to their security notifications.
FYI, you can run Windows apps on Linux. Sometimes it is very easy, some require a lot more finesse.

Actually, you can run Windows apps in several different ways under Linux. (Wine [translate system calls “on-the-fly”], app-level virtual machines [VirtualBox], or bare-metal hypervisors running actual Windows [Xen, which is the basis of Qubes]….)

On a Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to implement a new medical screening system for illegal aliens, ahead of efforts to implement those same medical systems for U.S. military veterans.
The House passed the bill, H.R. 3525, U.S. Border Patrol Medical Screening Standards Act, on a vote of 230-184. The bill requires the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Patrol officials to implement an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system, and store and report electronic health records to Congress for all migrants apprehended at the border, according to The Hill.

They may already be in a database at the VA – they also have the ability to secure outside services – privacy can be accomplished through a secure website – maybe – the whole premise of having a database is for MDs everywhere to be able to access – in the event the patient is out of their usual locality – at least – that is what they say – also allows many MDs to cue in with their assessments – discuss options – so they claim –
If a person has been admitted to a hospital – certain information is required for admittance – everything is done electronically – not manually – so our records are probably already electronically stored somewhere – in this digital age – it is unavoidable – unless we do not access health facilities at all.
One of my nephews is the head IT guy for a hospital in WI. When PDJT was planning a visit nearby, he got a call asking “Who can delete patient information from your system and ensure it is completely gone?” He responded “Only I can do that.” The Secret Service knew where he was and what he was doing the entire time PDJT was in town.

A young engr graduate from a US university and I stayed in contact after he had to go back. Great kid, but he couldn’t get an extension on his green card. He was working on medical records being computerized so doctors who went up into the hills could treat patients and keep records for other doctors. He used to Skype me so he could keep up with his Engrish. Loved the young man.
So – not a new idea – just extended and/or compromised for nefarious means – maybe?
Probably. The med people at some of the hospitals here use something called My Chart. They keep bugging me to consolidate my tests and records from different providers.

Just a few weeks ago, it seemed exceedingly unlikely that Hillary Clinton would enter the race for the White House in 2020. But now the Biden campaign is deeply struggling, and the constant focus that the impeachment inquiry is putting on his son’s dealings in Ukraine has already significantly damaged his chances. Joe Biden’s numbers are sliding nationally, and in the early voting states they are really starting to plunge. The only thing that made him a strong candidate in the first place was the fact that he was Barack Obama’s vice-president for eight years, and unfortunately for Biden his weaknesses are really being exposed over course of this campaign. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Warren has been surging nationally, and she is now in first place in several of the early voting states. This has put the Democratic establishment in panic mode, because it now looks like Warren has a really good shot of actually beating Biden. But none of the other establishment candidates have been able to maintain any sort of traction whatsoever, and at this point none of them are even close to double digits in the major national polls. So that means that establishment Democrats need a savior, and it turns out that “savior” could end up being Hillary Clinton.
And all of a sudden Hillary Clinton is popping up all over the place in the mainstream media. She has repeatedly supported the impeachment inquiry in recent days, and she very much sounds like someone that does not plan to stay on the sidelines for much longer.

Would NOT be surprised if HILLARY CLINTON were involved with ALL of the items above: the sudden “whistleblower complaint”, the sudden change in the FBI / CIA / Federal government rules that now allow “second-hand evidence” to be used to file a whistleblower complaint; the House rush to impeach POTUS; the decline in the polls of Joe Biden; the rise of Elizabeth Warren; and the non-showing of the DemocratMunchkins on the polls so far.
Add to this, her re-entry into the Twitter sphere, her showing up to make speeches about how POTUS is an “illegitimate President”, etc.
My guess is that HILLAR CLINTON and her minions are feverishly working behind the scenes to engineer for her to have the 2020 DemocratCommunist nomination literally handed to her to “save the country”.
And she, and her cabal, are feverishly working to make sure that POTUS is either impeached and removed from office, and/or that his approval numbers are Nixon-low, and/or that he has been blocked by the courts and Congress to implement more of the MAGA agenda — all well before the Spring of 2020.
Does the above make me an Eeyore? No.
It is a realistic synopsis of what Hillary Clinton is doing. Never forget that she is STILL seething that she didn’t win the White House in 2016, and has been hell-bent on revenge ever since. I believe that in her world, all that really counts is for her to be President of the United States. Any “collateral damage” of “cost of doing business” incidents DO NOT matter to her.
And I also believe that POTUS Donald Trump knows all of this.
I believe he knows that Hillary Clinton is at the bottom of ALL OF WHAT’S GOING ON.
I agree. Her war on Pres. Trump has never ended, she has not gone away, and now she is ramping up public appearances. Some say it is out of fear of what they know is coming. That may be, but this is war and she knows it. She is trying to save herself by destroying Pres. Trump. I keep wondering what Elizabeth Warren thinks about it all. This is her big chance with Biden imploding, and I can’t imagine she would be happy with Hillary stepping in.

Last week, a joint Utah legislative committee held a hearing on facial recognition technology, and legislators plan to consider at least two bills addressing the invasive surveillance technology during the upcoming legislative session.
The interim Government Operations Committee hearing was prompted by a recent report by the Georgetown Law’s Center on Privacy and Technology and reported by the Washington Post revealing that Utah was one of several states running facial recognition on its drivers’ license photos. According to the report, the FBI and ICE have turned state DMV databases into the “bedrock of an unprecedented surveillance infrastructure.”
According to a report by KUER radio, the hearing revealed that the Utah Department of Public Safety runs the photo of every Utahn who applies for or renews their driver’s license. That amounts to around 2,000 photo scans per day and includes minors. According to the Center on Privacy and Technology report, along with the regular scans of new pictures, records show DPS also ran nearly 2,000 searches over a two-year period at the request of federal agencies like the FBI and law enforcement agencies in other states.

And here, seriously, we have two barrels that go to the curb every week: one for actual landfill level trash, and the other for recyclables. Most municipalities in this part of STL county have places you can drop off recyclables. If nothing else, it keeps some trash out of the landfills.

Kiddo has had his 1st loose tooth for a couple weeks. Now his adukt tooth has popped through but the baby tooth is no where near ready to easily pull. He’s scared to wiggle it very much because its his first one even though Ive explained and reassured and reminded of the tooth fairy.
Any tricks to getting him to help it or shoyld I just let it go on its own?
If it changes color I’ll take him to the dentist to get it out. I just would rather not have to do that.

I had a child who was Very reluctant to play with his loose teeth so they stayed in past when the adult teeth erupted. Had to take him to a dentist to have 1 pulled as it was turning black – completely dead but he would not wiggle it and play with it. That seemed to help him realize that he was SUPPOSED to wiggle it and get it loose and pull it. I offered incentives for the rest above the usual as he needed extra motivation. He doesn’t like change! I loved to wiggle the teeth, thought it was fun to “play” with them. Never imagined that a child would be fussy about this until I encountered it. Oh, well – every child has their quirks!
Sounds like mine. I wiggled it for him but hes afraid to do it.
Dentist for tooth pulling not that expensive. He learned through the experience and wiggled the others. You do it or the dentist will do it but either way it is coming out. And I made a chart for progress for encouragement.
I know the dad method:
Son/Daughter, here’s the deal. Either you let Mom take that tooth out or you’re gonna get a whupping you won’t forget. And then Mom will take the tooth out anyway.
So what is it? Tooth out or whupping and tooth out?
And when we’re done with the tooth, you get a double scoop cone at the ice cream shop.

Try clear reasonable explanations/arguments for getting the baby tooth out….
– It’s not smart to leave it in…
– could get loose and you swallow it
– could get the new tooth infected
– It will turn black and look dirty, nasty, ugly
– could make the new tooth come in crooked
Show him the magic trick of tying a string around it and the other end onto a door know and swinging the door shut.
The old string trick will terrify him. He actually enjoys anatomy . I might just pull up pics of old teeth.
I already bought sacagawea dollars and Eisenhowers fo r him. His motivation is likely the tooth fairy !!
