Dear KMAG: 20200316 Open Thread

This Stormwatch Monday Open Thread is VERY OPEN – a place for everybody to post whatever they feel they would like to tell the White Hats, and the rest of the MAGA/KMAG/KAG world (with KMAG being a bit of both).

Yes, it’s Monday…again.

Throwing this right at the top!!!

Alison

Amen!!! I was just coming to post it. I really HATE when people rush to post something here that they have not validated. SgtReport quoting an unnamed source in a tweet is NOT a validated statement. Please think twice before posting the “alarm” stuff that you have not corroborated.
Remember we are at war. Please don’t help the enemy.

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

AMEN!!!

First I’ve ever seen the NSC say anything directly to the people. Rather dramatic step.

The Lancet: Global case fatality rate from coronavirus settles in at 5.7%, or 57 times higher than the flu… death rate skyrockets to 20% when hospitals get overrun
Real estimates of mortality following COVID-19 infection
David Baud, Xiaolong Qi, Karin Nielsen-Saines, Didier Musso, Léo Pomar, Guillaume Favre
Published:March 12, 2020DOI:https://doi.org/10.1016/S1473-3099(20)30195-X
Academic Report
*https://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(20)30195-X/fulltext
“We re-estimated mortality rates by dividing the number of deaths on a given day by the number of patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection 14 days before. On this basis, using WHO data on the cumulative number of deaths to March 1, 2020, mortality rates would be 5•6% (95% CI 5•4–5•8) for China and 15•2% (12•5–17•9) outside of China.
Global mortality rates over time using a 14-day delay estimate are shown in the figure, with a curve that levels off to a rate of 5•7% (5•5–5•9), converging with the current WHO estimates. Estimates will increase if a longer delay between onset of illness and death is considered.
A recent time-delay adjusted estimation indicates that mortality rate of COVID-19 could be as high as 20% in Wuhan, the epicentre of the outbreak. These findings show that the current figures might underestimate the potential threat of COVID-19 in symptomatic patients.”comment image

pgroup

Too bad that’s just a bunch of bullshit. True mortality rates are calculated against the whole population, not the ones who catch it. Those stats are only for medical people to determine the efficiency of their treatments.
Obviously, we are now in phase 2 of Project Terrify the Normal People. Notice they don’t tell you the likelihood of actually catching the disease. Why not? Because it’s far less than the flu which has already killed thousands this season.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

It’s even worse than that. They’re not putting number of cases in the denominator, but number of diagnosed cases.
They don’t diagnose it unless someone has it bad enough to go to the doctor.
So what we have at best is the percentage of serious cases that turn out to be fatal.
However, I do think it’s normal for them to calculate lethality based on number of cases, not the total population, because the question is generally how likely you are to die provided you catch it.
The Black Death that hit Europe wiped out 50 percent of the population. It came in three forms and it was 100 percent fatal (to those that came down with that form) in two of those forms, the other form was “only” 80% lethal. On the other hand, who knows how many were exposed and had their immune systems squash it flat in short order, before initial presentation.

My son is going nuts bored. Its only day 2, and we went out yesterday. Cant wait to homeschool all week. And then 2 weeks of spring break but everything is closed. He wont even be able to get library books. Now that aint right.

How old is he?
How’s the weather?

I have the dangerous noys book..and the follow up! Good ideas..lol.

gil00

Oh ill find something to do. I just called the library and theyre closed til April 30. How are peopke to do research for high school or college? Thank goodness we have books but 6 weeks is a long time. All parks and rec classes et al all closed but not sure if parks are too.

Deplorable Patriot

Can he do Starfall? My one nephew loves it. It’s academic, and treats everything like a game.

gil00

Ill look it up.3 weeks so far home, could be indefinite, plus the library is closed through April 30.

para59r

Wasn’t the Lancet involved in some quackery recently?

cthulhu

What part of the last 30 years are you calling “recently”? And the answer is “yes”.

para59r

Remember something in the last couple of months about saying how the respected Lancet was now involved in putting out some junk stories. Might of had to do with Vaping but I have Vaping on the head so it might of been something else, but they were definitely being called out.
Likes that “yes” btw. Sounds rather definitive 🙂

GA/FL

There are no reliable numbers right now.
The outbreak will be slightly different in every locale/demographic until it’s done.

pgroup

Wheatie, don’t you read the comments first? Wolfmoon already posted that it’s a hoax.
Besides, do you think DJT would do that to us?

pgroup

Sorry for being snappy.

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

I’m going to be BRUTAL WOLF on all of these: NSC, SGT, ME, and VSG.
YMMV
This is the NSC tweet:
“Text message rumors of a national #quarantine are FAKE. There is no national lockdown. @CDCgov has and will continue to post the latest guidance on #COVID19. #coronavirus”
This tweet will age perfectly, but hyper-literally. What does it mean?
“Text message rumors of a national quarantine are not true”
“There *IS* no national lockdown”
Both statements ONLY mean what they literally say. To me, they mean no currently planned national quarantine. Is it still an option? Yes. Might it still happen? Yes.

Aubergine

Yes, it sure doesn’t say “there WILL BE NO national quarantine, now, does it?

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

Gotta keep those options open. Which he DID in answering the same, pushy, loud question from FAKE NEWS at today’s presser!!! Loved the way he stretched it out to add SUBTEXT before giving the perfect answer AGAIN at the end. Our VSG!!! <3

cthulhu

I’m glad you caught it. I got the same rumor on a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend verbal link headquartered in s***-sidewalk central (who would reasonably be the LAST to know). I considered the possibility that it might be a distant rumor of a real thing — like a sanctuary city cleanup. But taking the whole enchilada in one gulp is preposterous.

kalbokalbs

No. Don’t think so. POTUS just told folks to relax and cut back on shopping.
SGT Report put out some real crap a couple weeks ago about quarantine centers being set up.
Don’t know much about SGT Report or Politico record for accuracy. For me, they are crap.
AND, Wolf first post debunks SGT Report thoroughly.

ladypenquin

Politico is LEFT – everything they post will be biased and slanted and they have no problem with untruths.

Sadie Slays

Lot of posts on 4chan right now claiming the same thing. Someone over there with a FEMA uniform is currently claiming, “Zones 2 9 & 10 are about to be activated.” That’s the entirety of the West Coast and NYC. This print-out going around claims a big White House announcement at 10:30 am Monday.
I don’t know what to believe right now.

Sadie Slays

🦋🤸‍♀️🦋bflyjesusgrl🦋🤸‍♀️🦋

Pence announced next task force briefing will be in the morning instead of 5pm. POTUS schedule has him in teleconference calls with G7, then Governors, then lunch w/ VP tomorrow. Of course everything can change. But yeah, there’s no way POTUS would do mandatory quarantine when all the stores are empty and temporarily struggling w/re-supply because of the tp hoarders.

Sadie Slays

In the past 24 hours, my area became a “shut down everything but the supermarket” zone and the CDC started advising against gatherings for 8 weeks. I want to believe, but things are moving rapidly.

para59r

Read letter carefully, that is an NBC internal memo. Means nothing to me.

Sadie Slays

It’s the first I’ve heard of the 10:30 am White House presser.

Did UpChuck get his brother Chip a job?

Deplorable Patriot

Why would the Trump administration use NBC news as a conduit?
Sadie, I think this is some sort of practical joke. It would be on official stationary, or an email with less formal headers.

What the fuck is a FEMA uniform? Is it brown with a leather bandoleer?
I’m already thoroughly pissed off at these doomers and their black fairy tales.

Sadie Slays

That’s yesterday’s date on the uniform (3/15). It could be some prankster with an old FEMA uniform. Hard to tell with 4chan and all of these rapidly-escalating closures, though. The rumors over there are getting wild.

Sadie Slays

WOW…big article from Natural News pretty much confirming the FEMA thing. Supposedly there’s a plan for the National Guard to start taking over food distribution in NYC and West Coast (“Zones 2 9 & 10).” Could end in rationing in those areas if things get bad enough.
https://www.naturalnews.com/2020-03-15-federal-government-to-control-grocery-distribution-national-guard.html

para59r

Might be a reaction to Union activity. Unions acting to save themselves from the dreaded Wuhan Virus because the politicos told them it was a good idea. Either that or the Dem States are going to suicide their people to get Trump out of office and Trump says no your not.
Just guessing obviously.

patfrederick

iirc POTUS did say he MAY restrict travel (air?) to certain parts of the country if the situation warranted it…he said that early on…

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

If the dems are smart (strategically I mean), they’ll primary him, so the voters can be suckered into electing a different Dem instead.

jamcooker

But they’re not….

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Oh, they can be very tactical when they want to be.
They averted a republican takeover of the state house here by advising the target of a recall effort to resign. She took one for the party and did so. Dems got to appoint her replacement that way.

jamcooker

The proposed carbon tax measures here were averted by a well conducted and planned campaign of resistance. Enough Dims caved that want to keep their jobs. Those are the ones that need to be watched, can’t be trusted.

Thanks Volgarian. Pompeo is another one who is shadowbanned from my twitter feed, so I appreciate knowing this about him. The worship service that President Trump recommended Sunday was so uplifting. This is a very inexpensive home remedy that is simple to make.

Gail, thank you for all the good resources you’ve collected.
Your recent post mentioning beets reminded me.
Been using this recipe from “Nourishing Traditions” cookbook for a traditional fermented beet drink for over a decade now.
Helps support kidneys, blood health, modulate inflammation, etc.
https://www.thenourishinggourmet.com/2014/03/beet-kvass-a-cleansing-medicinal-tonic.html
The health benefits of lacto-fermented food are undeniable. As chopped beets mix with sea salt, the sugar and starch convert to lactic-acid perfectly preserving the kvass. The finished drink is full of beneficial enzymes, friendly probiotic bacteria, and increased vitamin levels. Regularly eating lacto-fermented vegetables, or incorporating beet kvass into your diet, will promote healthy gut flora, and greater absorption of nutrients from your food.
note: I use 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar instead of whey.comment image

MAGA Mom

helpful hint with children: when we were first drinking Kvass son wasn’t interested…until I put mine in a wine glass and a little for him in a wine glass and said he could only drink it if he was VERY careful. Was he old enough to drink it…?? He embraced it with gusto at that point, standing very tall, walking very carefully and sitting so straight up…cute – thought he was all grown up to drink from such a glass! 🙂
Getting him to drink a warm cup of bone broth? MUCH bigger struggle but nothing a chart and a gigantic lego set sitting on top of the fridge as a reward couldn’t conquer.

Stolen from OT:

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?… The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If…if…We didn’t love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation…. We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

The reality is scientist these days rely too much on the models and too little on the science, let alone common sense.

Deplorable Patriot

Academic models have been around for decades. Most people with common sense ignore them since there is very little reality built into the theories that populate academic models.

ForGodandCountry

Found this little gem tonight.
There are a bazillion versions of this classic by various artists and ensembles, but how about this
lineup…😳😮😳
George Harrison (song writer): Voice & Guitar
Eric Clapton (original lead guitar): Guitar (a Les Paul)
Jeff Lynn: Guitar
Ringo Starr: Drums
Phil Collins: Drums
Ray Cooper: Percussion
Mark King: Bass
Elton John: Piano
Jool Holland: Piano
Anyway, this most definitely qualifies as a super group, cranking out one of the most iconic rock tunes of all time.
Quote:
“On 6 September 1968, during a ride from Surrey into London, Harrison asked Clapton to play guitar on the track. Clapton, who recognised Harrison’s talent as a songwriter, and considered that his abilities had long been held back by Lennon and McCartney, was nevertheless reluctant to participate; he later recalled that his initial response was: “I can’t do that. Nobody ever plays on Beatles records.” Harrison convinced him, and Clapton’s lead guitar part, played on Harrison’s Gibson Les Paul electric guitar “Lucy” (a recent gift from Clapton), was overdubbed that evening. Recalling the session in his 2007 autobiography, Clapton says that, while Lennon and McCartney were “fairly non-committal”, he thought the track “sounded fantastic”, adding: “I knew George was happy, because he listened to it over and over in the control room.” Harrison recalled that Clapton’s presence also ensured that his bandmates “tr[ied] a bit harder” and “were all on their best behaviour”.

Yep. Our airport is one of the nicest to travel through, but their choices of artwork is beyond creepy.
I was in the airport with friends a couple of months before it opened to the public. Everything was operational but we were the only people in it. Even got a tour of the control tower and watched a tornado out the windows about 2 mi away. The road to get to the airport had zero cars on it so we were doing a ‘bit’ more than the speed limit. It was one of the most fun adventures we’ve ever had and we still talk about it 25 yrs later.

Dearest Wolfie, other authors, and contributors,
Need your input, please.
Today is the last day of the 7th weekly Coronavirus thread.
I’m ready for another update.
What I have been doing in the past is to go through all the comment section and cull info from the past week and add to the basic thread.
This creates timelines for each section. Problem is, we’re ending up with something unwieldy and confusing. It looks like a book instead of a blog.
Therefore, I believe it is time we go to a DAILY THREAD type format for Covid/WuFlu as well as a regular daily thread for these extraordinary times.
What say you?

daughnworks247

Received an answer from Wolf already. Think that’s the FASTEST answer I’ve ever received from a boss.
Thanks Wolf.

I really appreciate all the info and updates, but I am getting COVID-19 OVERLOAD. I know it’s out there, like the all the other contagious diseases, but I can’t continually process this all the time.
if there is one sure way to round up a lot of political/social bad guys, it’s while everyone else is consumed with their own survival and/or toilet paper needs.

What was getting unwieldy, IMO, was all the theory and talking about it, and no good checklist of practical advice. That’s why I like my friend’s list of keep hydrated, take a hot steam shower upon getting home. It starts with a sore throat, etc.
THAT’s what is NOT being disseminated well.

Actually I think it is probably because they all are jet setters visiting the same clubs, going to the same parties…
Look at NC, at least five, and with this new case, six cases are related to a Boston conference that employees of Biogen in the Triangle attended.
From:
March 4 – NC one in Raleigh Wake County.
March 6 – NC second case Chatham County.
March 10 – 7 cases five new patients attended a Biogen conference in Boston.
March 13 – 16 CASES REPORTED all over state.
March 14 – 26 cases with one more from the Biogen conference Among the new confirmed cases is a teacher at Fuquay-Varina Elementary School.

Gov. Roy Cooper announced Saturday he had signed an executive order requiring public schools to be closed until March 27 and stopping mass gatherings of more than 100 people. The order came after the number of cases of COVID-19 statewide rose Saturday to at least 26.
In response to Cooper’s order, Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama canceled all weekend Masses in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh until further notice. He also ordered that the diocese’s schools be closed for two weeks.
https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/article241192746.html

Boston spread smells of someone painting unsuspected vectors before they went home from the conference. Too easy to do when you know where the people came from. Likely painted the last day they were together before going home.

Good Monday Morning Duchess!
Have a Blessed Day!

duchess01

Hi, Pat! Hope and Pray all is well with you!
God loves you and so do I – Pray a Blessed Day for You, too!!!

patfrederick

first day of hubby working from home…LOL
they’ve already discovered short comings and things that will not work…gonna be a fun experience!
😀

duchess01

My neighbor is working from home, too – he says they are trying to see how cutting in-house employees will work – a test of sorts.
They will work it out – Trust God – He knows what He is doing!!! 🙂

patfrederick

they are now going to stagger coming into the office to grab files, etc…which means they’re working out the kinks…which is good cuz the office is in NY…

duchess01

Oh, wow! They need to have a remote computer to access files – seems to be a lot of unnecessary travel – imho –
Yes, they need to work out the kinks!

patfrederick

no they have that–these are actual paper files–receipts, invoices, etc…hubby can go in and copy what he needs, the payroll lady needs to print checks which isn’t a function to be done off site…security reasons, etc…but they’re trying!

duchess01

Lots of things to consider – printing checks? No direct deposit available? Yes, they have many kinks to work out – what about Fax machine for copies? Traveling defeats the purpose of in-house reduction in social interaction – Gee!!!

patfrederick

well the office is small to begin with…12 people…if they limit the time they spend in the office and alternate days it should work.
and they have to pay their bills–it’s not just payroll checks–they are vendor invoices to process and pay–benefits, etc–but they are working it out. and are establishing a plan if this ever happens again…

duchess01

Okey Dokey, Mom – a great lesson for all of us – if we looked at troubles as opportunities – we would not be so disheveled – Yes?

patfrederick

it’s really hard to live with fear day after day and not feel a physical side effect from it.
stress affects our immune systems…laughter helps…
I choose to look on the bright side.

duchess01

I can tell – the ‘funnies’ you post daily – are great for relieving stress – giggling my way through – I am – Thanks so much for posting!!!
Fear – like negative thinking is debilitating – that is what I love most about President Trump – his positivity!!! It is uplifting!!!
Two people are falling from the height of a tall building – one is screaming – the other is calm – they both know how this will end – but, one decides to enjoy the ride – while the other is enthralled in fear.

patfrederick

well hubby has begun contemplating retirement so this is giving us a taste of being together in our small house–all the time–
so far it’s been good, but his new office mate has sexually harassed him more than once…wink, wink

duchess01

I wonder when the Democrats are going to realize that their SJW messages aren’t going to go over as well in the time of a communicable disease. Open borders defies logic when one is trying to protect their own health or that of their family.
Ironically, it will be this event in our history that clearly supports screening and border control. Should never have lost it. We had it when our great immigrant waves came in. Millions came through Ellis island, including my grandparents, and no one got in who were sick/had disease.
This backfires on the Democrats – though their base will likely hold to insanity and pretend otherwise.

These numbers are actually much closer to the truth. As we’ve all talked about, Italy is high because of heavy elderly population, heavy smokers, and dependency on socialized medicine. They are more government dependent for healthcare dollars – whereas countries like Germany have more private insurance involvement.
Italy is also a very social country – they have a difficult time distancing. But no doubt, the elderly are always vulnerable to pulmonary complications.
In fact, with the “flu” – it isn’t the flu that gets people, it’s pneumonia.
@OBgynFl
Death rates per million population from #Coronavirus.
1. Italy 29.5 per million
2. Spain 6.3
3. China 2.3
4. France 1.9
5. Switzerland 1.6
6. South Korea 1.5
7. England 0.6
8. Japan 0.2
9. USA 0.2
10. Germany 0.1
This is not a complete list and will change but better way.

This is interesting from Professor Cleveland. Along with POTUS, we can thank Ken Cuccinelli for the right decision on travel from China… The Democrats tried to push “academic” opinions on POTUS. Never listen to academics, at least not the ones the Dems proffer.
@ProfMJCleveland
THREADETTE: I’m reading House testimony re coronavirus and had NO IDEA how ballsy
@realDonaldTrump
decision to ban travel from China was! Apparently, the bureaucrats ran academic models on the scenario & those concluded travel should not be banned. Cuccinelli recommended 1/
@ProfMJCleveland
2/ ban travel anyway, but told Trump what modeling said. Trump banned travel from China and saved untold number of lives. Tell me any Democrat would have made that call!! Now, how did I discover this? Well in testimony, Rep. Titus had this to say about Trump’s lifesaving call:

phoenixrising37

Ace o Spades this a.m.
“… As usual, Victor Davis Hanson has an in-depth analysis for both Trump and America at large when we come out the other side of this madness:”
…When the virus peters out and the panic fades, China may be permanently rebranded and recalibrated by the world at large. Its trading partners will trust it far less to honor any commitments or to abide by any international agreements. Supply chains will be diversified. Tourism will be reduced in fears another such coronavirus will follow SARS and COVID-19 – and be hushed up. Countries that had particular close commercial and cultural ties with China – Iran, South Korea, and Italy – were hurt most during the epidemic by Chinese silence and duplicity…
Ostensibly, the panic-driven shutdown of the U.S. economy could plunge us into recession or worse, with dire consequences for the 2020 campaign. Some on the Left see COVID-19 in unapologetically political terms, as the magic solution to ending the Trump presidency and his supporters in a way that all the past hopes and dreams of doing so – from subverting the Electoral College after the November 2016 election to Mueller and impeachment, and all in between – utterly failed.
Whatever the ultimate human and economic toll from the coronavirus, there is no doubt that Trump, as president, will be blamed for the economic slowdown of spring and perhaps even early summer. The media despises the president as does entertainment, academia, and the media, ensuring in popular culture and the news that he will be demonized in a way Obama was not, despite reacting far more slowly, to the swine flu threat of 2009.
But here are some caveats. Warmer weather and spring, global quarantines, travel bans, more testing and increased knowledge of the virus may all eventually conspire to slow its spread. And when its relative non-lethality is fully digested (perhaps 98 or 99 percent of those in the general population below 65 in previously good health who are infected recover), and the cases begin dropping off, the economy will not just recover but take off…

🦋🤸‍♀️🦋bflyjesusgrl🦋🤸‍♀️🦋

Glad to hear what he’s saying about China, I’m thinking the same. The world should be very angry with ZCP and start distancing themselves. Saw on twitter where Jack Ma (acting like a hero) announced China was sending a big shipment of face masks to USA. The replies were great… No thanks, I wouldn’t trust anything from China, etc.
That’s part of their propaganda right now to reform their image…How they solved the problem, how they’re helping the rest of the world, everyone should be thanking them 🤮🤮🤮 I want to see rejection! They’re responsible for the pre-mature deaths of children, parents, and grandparents worldwide.

those thousands of bottles of hand sanitizer and wipes have been “donated”…
FTA
Thousands of bottles of hand sanitizer and packs of antibacterial wipes and medical masks have been donated after a failed attempt by two Tennessee brothers to resell them for profit.
News outlets report boxes were taken Sunday from a storage unit and the home of Matt Colvin of Hixson, Tennessee.
The items were donated to a local church with some supplies heading to Kentucky where Colvin had cleared store shelves during the U.S. coronavirus outbreak.
https://www.kiiitv.com/amp/article/news/health/coronavirus/hand-sanitizer-price-gouging-donation/507-94b48e7b-9662-4fff-b0aa-b56838b55f40

pgroup

Well, I think they were entitled to be creative. This is America. Well, it is supposed to be America. That is rapidly becoming an open question.

patfrederick

i think you’d be more right if this weren’t a medical issue…I mean if you foresee that a new restaurant is going to be a HUGE success and buy shares in it (silly example but it will do)–and it does become a huge success–you’re a genius! and you make a lot of money! but no one gets hurt in the process…
but this doesn’t sit well because it’s disease prevention that’s taking a hit…and people could get sick or die and you’re causing a panic…jmo tho

kalbokalbs

IMO, what these guys did was morally and ethically, wrong. Legal. But wrong. A couple examples.
Hurricane Category 4 bearing down on Houston, Miami, some high population center. Folks need to evacuate. Gas stations double or triple prices. Fundamentally wrong.
After the hurricane, tornado or whatever disaster, stores can’t simply double or triple prices on water, food… Again, fundamentally wrong.
Some place have laws against this sort of price gouging.
By the way, stores four days ago could have tripled their prices seeing the onslaught of shoppers bent on stocking up. They didn’t as it’s fundamentally wrong to do so.

cthulhu

The thing is, pricing and profit serve as signals to ensure better distribution of goods. Let’s say there was something that sold for $1 on your side of town, and you found out that it sold for $2 on the other side of town. You might well rent a truck for $100, buy a thousand of them, and go sell them for $1.50. That would give you a profit of $400.
The other vendors on the other side of town would likely screech that you had robbed them of $1000 because they could have sold the 1,000 widgets for $2 each. The people buying your widgets might screech that it’s unreasonable for you to make such a large profit. But that’s the way economics works. Higher prices and higher prices lure resources to where they are needed.
The question of whether something is “gouging” or not doesn’t involve the amount of profit — it involves the capacity to restock. If the guys had bought their hand sanitizer and medical masks last August, they should have been able to make their profits and enjoy the fruits of their foresight — because anyone should have been able to restock long before the crisis hit. OTOH, doubling the price of plywood in Orlando while the hurricane is trashing Miami is wrong — there is no chance to restock in just hours.

para59r

Price gouging has always been frowned upon so no real change as far as that story.

I agree, the death rate will go down. Also the numbers affected as other variables step in alongside the social distancing effect. Warm weather affects these viruses, and that’s coming along. We also have better healthcare and access than some of the countries with corona virus patients – especially Italy.

Deplorable Patriot

Italy’s health care system isn’t bad, per se, as I understand it, it’s disorganized (go figure). I do think our biggest advantage is the lack of smoking. In Italy…yeah, yuck, but here, fewer people do. And that is going to make a difference.

bakocarl

The number of people newly diagnosed each day as being infected is growing very rapidly. The last 8 days have put a total of 3,245 new cases into these calculation, but many (most?) of those 3,245 cases have not had the WuFlu long enough for it to kill them. So, what is happening is that the number of deaths is being diluted by the rapidly increasing number of newly infected resulting in a lowering of the death rate.

bakocarl

Eventually, hopefully, some of the emerging anti-viral treatments will be proven safe and effective and come into wide use, treating the infected at an earlier stage and directly reducing the deaths and death rate.

This “shut down” fad that is sweeping the nation is completely unconstitutional and will NOT help prevent disease proliferation. The fed constitution specifically authorizes suspension of the writ of habeas corpus:
Art. 1, sec 9-2 The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety require it.
The 14th Amendment makes this provision applicable to the States. It should be obvious that there currently is no rebellion nor is there an invasion (other than the illegal border jumpers but I digress). Those are the pre-requisites for suspending habeas corpus. Which means that generally anybody who is arrested or restrained under some executive order has a right to petition for a writ.
Thanks to civil rights law, there are grounds for civil suits against the govt that unlawfully restricts or impairs a person’s property rights.
Anybody who is forced to comply with one of these “close businesses” orders should file a lawsuit against the govt entity that is responsible for the force or restraint under the 4th & 5th amendments. Simultaneous with filing the suit should be a motion for a temporary restraining order prohibiting the govt miscreants from enforcing the orders pending trial.
Art. 2, sec. 3-1 … he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed …
Faithful execution of the laws means that a law authorizing the executive (POTUS) action must already exist and such law must comply with constitutional limits.
Restricting businesses from operating is an eminent domain action for which fair compensation must be rendered to the owner whose property is confiscated. The owner of property that is confiscated is no longer liable for taxes on that property nor taxes based upon its use.
When we talk about crossing the line, this “shut down” fad is what that line looks like. Fun of a perverse sort is about to commence.

Comment lifted from Ace of Spades:
…”80 There’s going to be a big reckoning with some people when this is over. That includes the media and various Democrat Governors who are taking advantage of people by spinning their propaganda in order to steal their civil rights.
During the Obama Administration, we heard the phrase “never let a good crisis go to waste”. It’s now become the sine qua non of Democrats during every national emergency. Instead of a time to bring us together, it’s a time of opportunity. A time to further divide us, put us at each others throats, steal from each other, a time to push political agenda in bills trying to respond to the dire needs of our citizens, and more importantly, a time to steal rights from people in order to better control them.
I sat with mouth agape as the governors of NY, NJ and CT, without sufficient cause or factual reason, immediately moved to suspend the rights of people who live in their states. I even was more appalled at the fact not a single person in the media asked where they derived such powers or what the compelling evidence was to take such an extraordinary step.
What will kill our nation is not the Coronavirus or any future plague. We will recover from this. It is the rampant disinterest, apathy, and indifference of a population and the press to question any intrusion on the constitutional rights of the people who actually own this government. That will be the death of our republic, and it’s time to let these people know the con is over.”

How much you want to bet this “tip” came from some Democrat gun grabber? Expect to see more of this. All anyone needs to do in this kind of panic is call the police and claim Typhoid Mary is on the way to get some guns, and the Democrats will go in full gun grab mode. Pathetic.

FTA
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The CDC gets a $53 million boost in the omnibus bill, which is a good thing because the CDC does important work like controlling deadly diseases and certainly would never waste taxpayer money on things like hiring a “Hollywood liaison” to help television and movie studios develop accurate story lines about diseases.
The increase in CDC funding includes the creation of a new program to study gun violence, which is apparently a disease now. If you want to get a sense of how the CDC handles this type of very specific assignment, take a look at what happened in 1999 when the agency asked Congress for extra funding with the goal of eliminating syphilis in the United States by 2005. The CDC used some of that money to pay for strippers, and not only did syphilis still exist in 2005, but the number of reported cases had increased by 68 percent, as then-Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) noted in a 2007 report.

How to Manage a Fever at Home: 2 Ways – Herbs and Pharmaceuticals
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzeu8Km4RFY&feature=em-uploademail

GA/FL

IF YOU HAVE A SERIOUS HEALTH CONDITION – check with your doctor before taking supplements and mega-doses of any vitamin, mineral, herb!!!
Ma Huang sold to me by a friend nearly killed me in 2001 or so.
My daughter who has a progressive neurodegenerative disease takes a lot of antioxidants and vitamins – BUT – at a neurologist/physician’s direction/approval.
One of the doctors in my family (and I have some stellar ones who got full scholarships, are on faculty in medical schools, etc) said taking too much potassium can cause serious heart problems.
PLEASE be careful dear friends.

duchess01

Each person should use caution when considering taking supplements – too many out there with advice to sell a product – if you have no experience – you need to consult a professional – so yes, GA/FL – I agree – we must be careful!
Thanks for the advice and the warning – God Bless You!!!

🦋🤸‍♀️🦋bflyjesusgrl🦋🤸‍♀️🦋

Both Potassium and Magnesium can interfere with your heart rhythms. Too much Omega 6 can be bad. Too much zinc can dilute needed copper. Yes, be very careful. Always research, some supplements can’t be taken together or combined w/other medicines, must be taken hours apart. Always find out toxic limits.

GA/FL

Thanks so much for all that important information!

Cuppa Covfefe

Yep. There are four electrolytes that work in tandem to regulate the electrical flow through the heart. Potassium, Sodium, Magnesium, and Calcium. An excess, deficit, or imbalance between any of these can cause problems. I see all these supplements in the store, especially the mixtures, and it makes me want to scream, as it’s not as simple as it looks…
Many diuretics are potassium-losing (for lack of a better word), where potassium is flushed out. Loop diuretics (e.g. Lasix) are known for this (as well as for being ototoxic). There are others, however, that are “Potassium-sparing”, which can cause an excess of potassium. Then there are other meds which affect the release, metabolism, or evacuation of the diuretic and its effects…
The same dance goes on with the others. If you’re on heart or blood pressure meds, be certain to check with your doctor or cardio about how they interact (drugs.com also has a website). and how otc meds and herbals also interact (most people never suspect this). And be sure to tell your doc each and EVERY single thing you take, and the dosage, if it’s not prescribed by them (e.g. if you’re seeing multiple docs or being treated for multiple conditions).
Messing up on this can be hazardous…

churchmouse

Thank you.
Also, low-salt (high potassium) substitutes can be dangerous for some A-Fib patients!
Check with your doctor first.

🦋🤸‍♀️🦋bflyjesusgrl🦋🤸‍♀️🦋

Yep, one of the worst mixtures is the Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc combo. Calcium dilutes the absorption of the other 2 so you’re never getting what the label says. Also, Vitamin D aids calcium absorption, so those 2 should be taken together. Nobody tells you that!

I let the fever run, and had one 24 hours fewer than my sister.

I bundle up and sweat it out. Tend to only eat berries and sip water or tea.

duchess01

Heard about bundling up – does it work? Water and/or Tea? I drink tons of water – it helps filter through whatever does not belong – like an infection – imho

It seems to work for me, after the cold chills pass I usually stay bundled up and sweat as much as possible to break the fever.

FTA
U.S. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer will propose legislation totaling at least $750 billion to combat the coronavirus outbreak and help the economy, his office said in a statement on Monday. He will present the package as early as Tuesday, the statement said.
The plan would be in addition to an $8.3 billion aid plan that Congress has already passed, as well as a multi-billion-dollar package the House approved last week, the statement said.
Schumer’s plan would include money to address hospital capacity issues, expand unemployment insurance, increase Medicaid funding, and provide immediate payment forbearance on federal loans, the statement said. Democrats are a minority in the U.S. Senate.

– Disinfect frequently used items and surfaces as much as possible.
CORONAVIRUS.GOV
School operations can accelerate the spread of the coronavirus. Governors of states with evidence of community transmission should close schools in affected and surrounding areas. Governors should close schools in communities that are near areas of community transmission, even if those areas are in neighboring states. In addition, state and local officials should close schools where coronavirus has been identified in the population associated with the school. States and localities that close schools need to address childcare needs of critical responders, as well as the nutritional needs of children.
Older people are particularly at risk from the coronavirus. All states should follow Federal guidance and halt social visits to nursing homes and retirement and long-tern care facilities.

Cuppa Covfefe

If you have Photoshop, or Photoshop Elements, you can open the .pdf, rasterize it, and take the color out.
I imagine there are folks out there who could just open the .pdf file itself, flip some bits, and take the color out, too… (also, if you have Acrobat, and the file isn’t locked, you can just do it there – reader can’t do it, but the regular program can)…

bakocarl

I just used a couple of online file converters, with some cleaning up and, VOILA!

GA/FL

Thanks, Cuppa! I don’t have Photoshop, I’m not sure if I have Acrobat on this computer. I’ll check.

Cuppa Covfefe

I was just thinking, if you have Acrobat Reader, you can use the select text function, copy all the text, and paste it into a new file (e.g. word or something).
But I see bakocarl’s already converted the file (thanks)…
Dark backgrounds, either with low contrast (blue on black) or inverse printing (white on black) drive me nuts, too. And they use a TON of toner, wear down the print drum (due to said ton of toner), and cost more to print.
Then again, for brochures, folios, pamphlets, even photos (better done on an injet, usually), it looks nice.
I have an OKI C532dn that actually prints pretty good photos. Can’t touch my Epson 2100, though…

GA/FL

I just have an inexpensive HP B&W laser printer

Cuppa Covfefe

They’re pretty good too, actually HP has a tradition of solid, well-designed hardware (OK, I worked there for years, so maybe I’m a bit biased – then again, I purchased TONS of HP HW for companies before I ever set foot in Palo Alto and Cupertino). Now, a lot of their stuff isn’t the “solid as a tank” design, but still pretty good.
I have a little OKI (OKI dokey) B430dn that is our Energizer Bunny Printer… aside from a misadventure with a faulty printer drum, it’s still going strong. And much cheaper to use than InkJets, for the most part.
The cool thing about the 532 is that it can print photos with text and have that shiny finish which seems to make it look “professional”, but doesn’t cost extra. We only got it because it was €100.00 off, and we got a free 7000ppg toner cartridge, which made it basically free. That was right after they came out. Thing weighs a ton, though, and is a tad big for the countertop it sits on. Still, it’s kinda neat, and with third-party toner (which FINALLY is available), it should be fairly cheap to run…
The 2100 cost ca. €800.00 way back when… I just wish I could find it a new home, as that’s really a printer for professional photographers… A3+ (19″) paper feed, including roll feed, auto-cutter (batch) feed and cutting, complete with basket, 10 separate ink tanks, provision for CIS (Continuous Ink System/supply), and professional-quality drivers… sigh… but it would take 20-30 minutes to print an A3 high-res print…
If I only knew then what I do now about “purchasing equipment appropriate for the tasks at hand”…

article about the absurdity of the CDC over the years…
FTA
During the Ebola crisis, the CDC had been spending a mere $2.6 million on gun violence studies. But the CDC has a history of wasting money on everything from a $106 million visitor’s center with Japanese gardens, a $200K gym, a transgender beauty pageant, not to mention promoting bike paths.
The occasional outbreak only calls the CDC’s general incompetence to everyone’s attention. The rest of the time its incompetence, like that of other government agencies, just ticks along wasting money.
snip
The CDC is a classic example of a progressive success story, an agency created to fight malaria by spraying DDT, whose original mission has long since become politically incorrect and which instead adopted a politically correct search for the social root causes of diseases like syphilis and AIDS.
Unlike fighting malaria by spraying DDT, fighting syphilis by combatting racism doesn’t work.
The CDC’s fight against the “obesity epidemic” is even sillier. That includes funding 15 colleges to “work with community extension services to increase access to healthier foods and safe and accessible places for physical activity.” That meant giving LSU over a million bucks to work with farmers’ markets.
Obesity obviously can kill people, but it’s not something that the CDC can or should be trying to fix.
America doesn’t need the CDC as a pipeline for pork to state schools. We do need the CDC to fulfill its original mandate by dealing with outbreaks of infectious diseases, initially malaria and smallpox, and now Ebola or the coronavirus. We need science, not social welfare.
Unfortunately, the CDC, like every federal agency, has drifted from its core mission into social welfare.

I put this on the COVID19 thread. I’m now home, freshly steam showered, and changed into clean clothes.
Ground report from the grocery store:
OMG, and I mean no slight to the Almighty. Holy crap. It’s like the people don’t have anything else to do.
So, I needed a few perishables and non-TP and wipe type products (dishwasher pods, etc.) and thought I would just stop in at the store on the way home from dropping something at the vet’s office. There was nowhere to park at the smaller store, so I ventured to the store that’s a lot bigger with a stellar produce section…I circled the lot for 10 minutes waiting for a spot to open up. Inside, it wasn’t THAT bad, and people were only picking up smaller loads of essentials, but still…hardly any fresh chicken was in the case. Most milk was dented. All TP GONE. Most wipes gone. Zero Lysol spray. All first aid alcohol wipes, and most gloves gone (we have some, so no biggie).
I checked out in the self-check out with gloves on, and the manager running it – GREAT gal we’ve known for years – said under her breath, “I need a nap.” They’ve been slammed for days.
So, I go to leave and one of the cart guys, a mentally challenged guy who is sweet as can be, started talking my arm off while we walked to the car. He was like, “This is as bad as Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.” I mean, he had a litany of complaints about hording and all I could do was nod and agree.
It’s a jungle out here. And my can of hearty tomato soup is dented.

kea

That’s crazy. How long can this spending keep up?

GA/FL

Went to our big Publix near me today – around 10 am Monday
As Gail and DP recommended, I wore clothes I could pop in the wash when I got home and my favorite new machine washable yard gloves that grip and fit nicely…kind of like Gorilla gloves, but an off brand from Home Depot. I also use them to pump gas!
There were many holes in the shelf stock – but it’s Monday and they probably haven’t gotten the shipments of many things that were wiped out over the weekend.
– no frozen strawberries or bluberries
– no frozen baby peas or corn – most frozen vegs were low or gone!
– low on paper products, baggies, etc.
– low on cleaning supplies
– out of most sandwich meats
– regular, not gourmet, cheese stock needed refilling but my sweet cheese lady was going at it!
– plenty of produce!
– plenty of chips, crackers and cookies
– bought or rather invested in, a bottle of elderberry syrup!
– totally out of zinc – but they had Vitamin C!
– I didn’t even check for hand sanitizer and wipes – but that wasn’t on my list.
Heard one young Mommy saying – “They are going eat so much – it’s going to be expensive with them out of school!”
Everyone was pleasant and it was busy, but not over-crowded or rushed.
Got home, unloaded and put away the groceries, still in my gloves, put the clothes in the washer, took a shower, washed all the gloves – the house and outside gloves.
I buy Atlas 620 orange gloves lined in white cotton knit jersey by the dozen for house, yard, bathroom, kitchen, laundry, etc. – they are bleachable inside, last forever – never had one pair wear out. I wash them inside and out with warm water dawn and bleach, rinse well, hang by fingertip on skirt hanger, let drip dry in laundry sink, then hang all the skirt hangers on an over door hanger, turn on a fan and blow it up into the gloves.
Washed and bleached all the dirty towels (I buy hotel towels by the dozen – https://ritewaylinens.com) just bought 48 nice soft durable white washcloths for about a dollar each. They last and last.

I borrowed this but lots of people cant even cook a frozen pizza or toast. Its a good place to start.
“Dad’s son on March 16, 2020 at 7:43 pm
Guess it’s time to learn how to cook again.
Let’s start with rice, because rice kept the North Vietmanese Army (and a lot of prisoners) basically alive – though not very well “nutrient-ed,” for years:
This is my dialed-in recipe, (at least for Southern cooking) which is why it is detailed:
-=========-
Saucepan method for cooking long-grain white rice
1. Using medium-high heat, bring 1½ cups water to boil in covered saucepan, then add 1/4 tsp. salt and stir.
2. Add 1 cup rice, then stir again, reduce heat to low, then cover saucepan. Check rice after 2 minutes to make sure it has reduced to a steady bubbling simmer, not a full boil. Adjust temperature if needed and re-cover. Set timer for 17 minutes. DO NOT STIR RICE AGAIN UNTIL COOKED and don’t lift lid after simmer is set.
3. After 17 minutes, turn off heat, lift lid and stir rice, then re-cover and leave on burner to sit 5 minutes before serving.”

GA/FL

Your recipe sounds more precise and measured than the way our family does it. My mother and mother in law (deep south GA) made rice a totally different way.
Put a cup of rice in a pot, add a 1/2 tsp of oil or a pat of butter, stir over medium heat until sizzles, but not brown, add 2 cups water and a teaspoon of salt.
Bring to boil on medium heat, stir once and boil with lid propped open until the rice forms craters (little holes) and the water is just below the surface about a 1/4 inch.
Lower the heat to low, cover and cook on very low heat until the water has cooked out. Turn off and let sit, then fluff with fork and serve.
I mostly make brown rice nowadays because it’s easier not to get it too soft. It needs a little more water, maybe 1/4 cup, but the method is still the same.

gil00

Thats an interesting way to do it. We may need a recipe thread for easy basics for versatile food like rice, or extending use(leftover city).

bakocarl

The easy way –
Throw 2 cups of rice and 4 cups of water into my 50+ year old Panasonic Rice-o-mat rice cooker.
Cover. Push the switch down . . . light comes on.
Light goes out in about 20 minutes.
Fluff with fork. Cover. Leave for 20 more minutes.
Serve.
Easy peasy . . . tried and true.

gil00

I think of those recent commercials for carls jr where the men would go into the grocery store and poke the meat or look lost around veggies. Mr gil one time tried cooking a frozen pizza, but didnt take the cardboard off the bottom. People will realize they need to do basic things like cook rice and beans. Stick some bean seeds and tomato seeds in some soil and get to it.

GA/FL

We could also compare our grandma’s versions of the basics – cornbread, veg soup, chicken soup, macaroni and cheese, etc.
About the rice – I forgot to say, Mama measured how much water to put in the pot on top of the rice by the first joint of her thumb….which means, I guess that she didn’t measure the rice either.

gil00

Guesstimate like a pinch, etc.

I read that and thought no way is President Trump complicit in all the deaths occurring – which is what his scenario suggests. The whole thing sounded like his fantasy without much thought to what he is suggesting, which a lot of Q people seem to get into too much, in my opinion.

duchess01

Dunno where he said PT was complicit – it was an eye-opener for sure, Linda – however, I do not see it as fantasy – Q is M-Intel – an old reference – there is a war going on to save the Republic – at first – it was restore the Republic – and now – we are trying to save it – that is no fantasy – it is reality – there is a shadow government – made more real by the foibles of the last administration – intent on destroying America and reducing it to 3rd world status – the war of good vs evil is ongoing – and for a long time – evil has had the upper hand – America has gone through a renewal of sorts – the evil in the shadows is being exposed to the light of day –
I agree – much of what he wrote is hard to swallow – let alone believe – however – anyone who makes us think – is – imho – worth noting.

I don’t wish illness on anyone. However, there are people whom I don’t need or want to hear from. Katie Hill is one of them. I wish her well, but, IMO, she needs to be out of the public eye, including social media, examining her life in solitude and privacy. There was a time when shame would have accomplished this.
