Guessing.
1. Regular military equipment movement. Trains are the easiest and “best cost” when moving very heavy equipment in large quantities.
2. Equipment report heading north.
– USA, FT Irwin, Mojave desert, CA.
– USMC, Three locations. Camp Pendleton, at Oceanside, CA. Mojave Desert both Twenty-Nine Palms and Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow.
My best guess is Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow. A depot to store equipment.
3. Equipment offloaded from a RO-RO (roll on / roll off) ship at a San Diego port. Probably 32nd Street Naval Station. Rail line from the port then goes through San Diego downtown area, then heads north.
While not common, as a weekly or monthly occurrence, not unheard of or cause for alarm. Nothing to do with ChiCom-19 or illegals at Mexico border.
Your paragraph 3 makes sense if it was coming from the San Diego port and it’s common to take the entire unit’s equipment there for service which may well be the case.
IF the train IS heading north, it had to be offloaded from a ship. 100% that is my bet, guess, belief. Barstow most likely.
– Most likely. Storage rework, maintenance and store until needed.
– Possible training FT Irwin. But can’t think of a reason it would be in San Diego. Hard to get further southwest in the US. No storage for that amount of heavy equipment. Coming off a ship going into the US indicates destined for maintenance and storage IMO.
– Pendleton and Twenty-Nine Palms are smaller training areas and unlikely destination.
Barstow is the answer.
The fact that training is on hold, does not stop this equipment from moving, whether it is for training or not. At this point on a train, it is simply freight. Big, heavy, difficult to move freight. It IS in the logistics pipeline. That train is simply a part of the logistics move. The soldiers won’t train. Wherever the train is headed, folks at that destination offload the train.
Agreed, meanwhile that kind of equipment would always be moved by train or truck until they reached an engagement area. BTW Barstow is basically Ft. Irwin. The marine depot is just out side of it. If the vehicles did indeed come off a ship that means they just came off a deployment where they were used on the ground thus the refit in Barstow.

If it is heading North it has to be moving out of San Diego area obviously. Ft. Irwin would be the only training location they would go to. This assumes training of course.

This is beginning to look like a real farce – there is no enforcement behind these shutdown edicts. Just another opportunity for “rules” to be ignored in furtherance of co-opting our Rule of Law.

It’s America. Folks need to do this out of civic duty, concern for their families and fellow citizens. Government edicts are not in our vocabulary.
There is zero chance folks are going to jail over this.
At best, we are simply buying time to, 1) flatten the curve AND 2) locate / create medicine to cure ChiCom-19.
This drill will go fifteen days. Maybe 30 days. Don’t see Americans going longer, unless they see hospitals being overwhelmed AND folks being discarded to the death bin via triage. THEN, Americans WILL get on board quickly.
FWIW, a gun blog I frequent, has plenty of folks saying ChiCom-19 is nothing as they compare it to flu deaths… Guys on Ram truck forum seem to understand we have a huge problem we hope is going to be averted.
Me, so long as utilities are available, I can hunker down four months or so without refueling the home food supply. Of course, weekly topping off, fresh fruit, vegetables and bread always welcome.

Forgot to mention the bird activity in the back garden! All feeders are constantly occupied…chickadees are making nest everywhere you look (including several places I’d rather not have them.) Bluebird houses occupied. And bumblebees feasting on the nectar of the Indian hawthorn bushes. I should put out the hummingbird feeders for the “passing thru” ones on their way north for the summer…it’s about that time.
Lots of things seem to be blooming a little early…clematis vines, Henry Wheeler vines growing up the white antique house volumes that always attract the hummers…and the greenhouse plants (geraniums, begonias, impatiens) came out blooming so there’s already summer colors showing.
No, being self-quarantined just gives me the opportunity to slow down, enjoy and be thankful.
In my state, law enforcement is pissed that they were blindsided by the Governor’s office regarding the shutdowns and are publicly denouncing him in the news. Chatter online is that state enforcement (if there is any at this point) of shutdown orders will be limited to small fines. I know of at least one lawsuit filed against the Governor over this, and at least one gun store that is refusing to shut down. People are pushing back.

So…..I’ve spent the day having computer issues blow up in my face. Things were going smoothly and well……until they weren’t. I’m not really any worse off than when I started, but I’m back on the “spinning-rust” version of my daily-driver computer.
I’m going to jump to the end. Both the old and the new versions of Linux were using Logical Volume Management (LVM) that was set up by their respective OS installers. HOWEVER, because I was installing versions of the same OS, the installers named the Logical Volume Group the same in both cases, and the volumes within the same in several cases. So, LG “foo”, would have “foo-root”, and “foo-swap” on both machines (as well as “foo-boot” on one….). When I tried to mount both at the same time, I got a whole bunch of chaos and “no”.
The current situation is that the SSD is unbootable. I renamed the Volume Group and something in its boot sequence misses the old name. I’ll be checking later to see if I can read it from the rust — I suspect that’ll be fine. In the meantime, I am temporarily deaf because the only sound output in my selections is “dummy output” — which might make the musical interludes on the Utree interesting.
I had been thinking of how cool it was going to be to boot off the rust and see the SSD as a subsystem, or boot off the SSD and see the rust as a subsystem…..but, as of this moment, they’re both limping.
Linux is annoying in that micromanagement way, but refreshing as well. I’m dealing with some Micro$hit right now, and it’s annoying in its own “forced high level guesswork” way, which is sometimes a lot MORE annoying.
At least with Linux you can see everything…..if you know where to look.

Gov. Tom Wolf indicated Thursday when he announced a mandated shutdown of all “non-life-sustaining” businesses that his executive order would have teeth.
He said starting at 12:01 a.m. Saturday the order would be enforced by state and local authorities. Businesses that were supposed to be closed that weren’t would face repercussions.
Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams said he doesn’t think those teeth are particularly sharp.
“My initial response was ‘Under what authority?’ ” he said Friday afternoon. “What statutory authority do we have to close businesses?”
Adams said that he has advised law enforcement agencies across Berks that, after doing extensive research on the topic, his office could not find any specific statutes that would hold up in court to cite and fine businesses failing to follow the governor’s mandate.
“The only hammer that we would have is state licensing boards,” Adams said, adding that they only cover a select few types of businesses.

Abstract
Background Chloroquine is an inexpensive and widely available 9‐aminoquinolone used in the management of malaria. Recently, in vitro assays suggest that chloroquine may have utility in the treatment of several viral infections including influenza.
Objectives We sought to test whether chloroquine is effective against influenza in vivo in relevant animal models.
Methods The effectiveness of chloroquine at preventing or ameliorating influenza following viral challenge was assessed in established mouse and ferret disease models.
Results Although active against influenza viruses in vitro, chloroquine did not prevent the weight loss associated with influenza virus infection in mice after challenge with viruses expressing an H1 or H3 hemagglutinin protein. Similarly, clinical signs and viral replication in the nose of ferrets were not altered by treatment.
Conclusions Although in vitro results were promising, chloroquine was not effective as preventive therapy in vivo in standard mouse and ferret models of influenza virus infection. This dampens enthusiasm for the potential utility of the drug for humans with influenza.

Okay… quick story… as I revealed last night, grandson is taking gf to Drive-in movie tonite… where he will propose to her via a video to be shown just before the movie starts… what I didn’t say is they have been together a long time, talked about marriage, rings, etc. Sweet gal lost her dog/friend this month, a year ago… she told grandson she didn’t want a ring when they marry (sometime in Nov/Dec 2020 tba), she wants a dog. Well everything is being planned as a surprise and grandson just came in with a dog from the shelter (chosen about 2/3 weeks ago), sweet dog is about a y/o, house trained, and DEAF… grandson and his friend are upstairs now giving doggie a bath… I am beyond tearing up…………………….

As unemployment rises and families feel unbearably burdened already, they feel pressure to “fix” the situation they created with even more radical and “creative” policy solutions. This only creates more problems and an even larger snowball effect. The first place to start is to stop killing the patient and focus on what works.

My one dog has an ear issue and I am not able to get him not the vet until Tuesday.
I am puzzled by the exception if Vet office only allow X patients a day or any given time ? Maybe vets are sick?
The office I go too have 5 staff vets. I am tempted if this becomes the new normal to go to a different vet.
They can just take the dog in the back tree him and bring him back into the office and no contact with vet.
I do that all the time with my Cattle dog who had gland issues. I bring her in they clean her glans clean her ears and they take her in the back to do it.
I am a little miffed but these are extra ordinary times.
I just need to get a vial of insulin. I talked to the assistant and we made arrangements. It’s all good.

The virus is said to be very light, micron size and floats out to a 6ft range before dissipating enough so as not to be a concern. Depending on how someone breaths that 6ft can easily be 10 ft especially with ever so slight drafts.
Now I’m not not not going to make a vid of me breathing down my shirt. But trust me when I say that you will hardly see a thing and the danger zone falls to 1 foot easily, except don’t walk too closely behind or there might be some slight fog effect but again nothing compared to these pictures.
Again something as simple as bandanna would go far in stopping the spread. Since were all being funneled into stores to shop for groceries making it mandatory to wear any kind of mask even a cheap piece of cloth over your face to get into the store would work better than no mask, especially since to conduct commerce you’re going to break the 6ft rule more often than not.Another odd note. Men are said to be catching CV more than woman. Why? 1. Perhaps they are more apt to invade someone’s space? 2. They are apt to be more taller and catch the vapors as they drift up? Both ways might mean a larger accumulation of virus and thus the uptick in catching CV.

Don’t judge me, I needed gas. And yes, I wore gloves to do the deed, and wiped down the steering wheel, shift, keys,, etc., with a Purell wipe when I got back in the car.
I haven’t seen gas for $1.99 in forever.
Okay, so in light of recent developments, I headed over to my preferred grocery store where they apparently no longer carry my favorite gluten free crackers, Rats. Anyway, usually on Saturday afternoons, it’s a happening place with all sorts of “try me” stations set up and the beer on tap counter in the booze situation manned. yeah, not today. I actually found a decent parking spot and saw something I never have in my life: the litter on the parking lot was not paper products and food wrappers, but blue medical gloves.
No, I am not kidding.
So, I go in. Cart wiping is now complementary right in front of you. I put on a fresh pair of blue gloves and got started.
There are no broccoli crowns in the fresh veggie section. Did find some pretty mushrooms, though.
Found new computer glasses since I broke my old ones this morning.
Meat section…no breakfast sausage to be seen. Chicken was down to whole ones (guess what we’re having for dinner tomorrow), beef…there were a lot of roasts that would take tenderizing, BEAUTIFUL sirloin, I managed to get a couple marrow bones to replenish my broth supply.
i also got six bottles of tonic water. I mean, if anti-malarials are making a difference, and Dad drinks the stuff straight and he’ll be home in two weeks….
Anyway, paper products: GONE. Laundry detergent was all but gone.
Frozen foods picked over.
Checked out and one of the managers bagged me up. He said thank you for bringing my own bags. On Monday, supposedly, another chain is not allowing bring your own, so I asked about that. He hadn’t heard about that.
In the store itself, I saw a number of masks, but more gloves than not – and almost all people walking around in scrubs had gloves.
Got home and a neighbor I’ve known my whole life was out for a walk. Her kids, who are mine and my siblings’ ages, won’t let her and her husband out of the house. She kept saying, Doesn’t this feel like you’re in a movie? Anyway, she bristled at being “elderly” since she and the spouse aren’t 75 yet.
This is all getting to be unreal.

This is a response to the news and resulting comments about prisons releasing inmates due to the China Virus. Concerns about these reports are very understandable given the recent moves by some cities to restrict law enforcement from making arrests, or, apparently even attempting to prevent or intervene in certain crimes.
Seemingly, criminals are being given the green light to – well – engage in crime.
So, good Lord, why ever should we be letting the ones who are already caught and convicted back out on to the streets to reengage in the mayhem!?!?
I cannot speak to who is being considered for release in some of these states, or why. But I can give a perspective as to why this should be done under certain circumstances.
I am personally aware of a man, 76 years old, who is an inmate in a medium security prison housing over 1200 prisoners. The majority are not housed in individual or shared cells where they could be quarantined or on lockdown.
No. They are housed in large rooms – barracks – holding around 140 men each. They sleep in triple racked bunks with maybe 5 feet between racks. They use a communal latrine – which often only has cold water available. There was one 2 week period when they did not even have running water. They only had bottled water available for hygiene needs.
For the entire prison the infirmary has 4 beds available, with 2 more potential in an emergency.
CV cases have been identified in the neighborhood of the prison.
If this bug gets in there – I can close my eyes and see a nightmare.
There are many men in there – especially the elderly – who could be released and would be of no threat to their communities. This should not be a mass release, but there are many who could be put out on early parole. Given the danger to these men, this solution should be considered and evaluated. Frankly, in this case, it should be enacted.
I totally get the shock expressed about this issue in some comments. But, like so many things, there is a need for seeing that there are different situations.
(And, yes, the facility has already banned visitors and put restrictions on service personnel, etc.)
After being out today…this is all getting to me. How do we know our precautions are enough? I mean, a slip up could be any number of things.
I’m hoping we’re all doing everything and I mean everything right. I mean my hands get washed 15+ times a day. I’m using gloves where ever I go, doing the steam shower thing and neti-pot when I get home, changing into clean clothes.

We don’t. We do what we know to do and we pray.
It sounds like you did all you could to reduce your chances. With all of us doing the same the hope is that carriers won’t spread it as much before diagnosis and the spread will slow.
And we know that even among the elderly who have the highest death rate it is still (with medical treatment) 15-20% – not a certain death. Medical treatment is Rapidly evolving and even as cases continue to grow the death rates will come down because of all the medical est. is learning and learning quickly (as long as the medical systems are not overwhelmed with rapid growth).
We still have to go out some too. Had to go to Kroger, Costco and gas. Went to Post office to send liberal nephew living in LA (hinted he should leave and ride this thing out at home but the young don’t listen) a care package of tp, etc. Have to go to doctor on Monday and had to go 2x last week. We do the best we can each time we go out and take care of ourselves while at home with good diet, ferments, broth, supplements, plenty of water, essential oils and herbal teas. And that is all we can do.
Just remember – this is Not something like ebola. Even in the high risk groups 80+ yrs, not everyone has a harsh case and of those who are hospitalized Most recover!

Well, I think I may have made a small difference in my little town!
A couple of days ago, I emailed a city councilman my idea that the elderly and others in at-risk groups should be encouraged to stay home ALL the time (no order to do so here in Montana, yet), and we should set up a group of young healthy people to run errands like the grocery store, pharmacy, etc. for them, so they can.
Today, I got an email back from the councilman, with an attached announcement from the mayors office. They are setting up a group of people who are healthy to enable the elderly to stay home. It worked!

Quite possible. The test is somewhat iffy. At least the early ones were. The virus is deep in the lungs and not necessarily in the nasal/throat area. (I have the paper stashed somewhere…)
Regarding Yang…I recall that after POTUS/Munchin announced the checks to be sent out, which was one of the things Yang was proposing as a candidate (basic guaranteed income), Yang offered to help with staff, etc.
Hope I got that right, but that’s probably the source of the “rumor.”
